The fraud problem has drastically increased with the rapid growth of online lending. Since loan applications, approvals and disbursements are operated online, deceptive borrowers are prone to conceal or falsify information to maliciously obtain loans, while lenders have difficulty in identifying fraud without direct contacts and lack binding force on customers’ loan performance, which results in the frequent occurrence of fraud events. Therefore, it is significant for financial institutions to apply valuable data and competitive technologies for fraud detection to reduce financial losses from loan scams. This paper combines the advantages of statistical methods and ensemble learning algorithms to design the grouped trees and weighted ensemble algorithm (GTWE), and establishes fraud prediction models for online loans based on mobile application usage behaviors(App behaviors) by logistic regression, extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), long short-term memory (LSTM) and the GTWE algorithm, respectively. The experimental results show that the fraud prediction model based on the GTWE algorithm achieves outstanding classification effect and stability with satisfactory interpretability. Meanwhile, the fraud probability of customers detected by the fraud prediction model is as high as 84.19%, which indicates that App behaviors have a considerable impact on predicting fraud in online loan application.

Credit scoring is widely used by financial institutions for default prediction, however, a significant portion of online credit loan customers have inadequate or unverifiable credit histories, making it difficult for financial institutions to make effective credit decisions. Since the widespread use of smartphones and the popularity of mobile applications, it is worth investigating whether mobile application usage behaviors (App behaviors) of customers can effectively predict online loan defaults. This paper proposes a combined algorithm of CNN and LightGBM, and establishes credit scoring models with App behaviors to evaluate the default risk of online credit loans based on logistic regression, LightGBM, CNN and the combined algorithm, respectively. The experimental results suggest that App behaviors have an obvious effect on the default prediction of customers applying for online credit loans, and the combined model outperforms the other models in terms of the area under the curve (AUC). Furthermore, integrated credit scoring models are developed by combining App behaviors with traditional scoring features. A comparison of the integrated models and the traditional scoring model indicates that the integrated models have achieved a significant improvement in classification performance and App behaviors can be a powerful complement to the traditional credit scoring model.

Patients with chemo-refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) have poor prognoses. The application of programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors encouragingly improved the survival of mCRC patients with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H)/mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR). Unfortunately, it was ineffective for mCRC with microsatellite-stable (MSS)/proficient mismatch repair (pMMR), which accounted for 95% of mCRC. Radiotherapy can promote local control by directly killing tumor cells and inducing positive immune activities, which might help synergistically with immunotherapy. We present the report of an advanced MSS/pMMR mCRC patient who had progressive disease (PD) after first-line chemotherapy, palliative surgery and second-line chemotherapy combined with targeted therapy. Then the patient received the therapy of PD-1 inhibitor combined with radiotherapy and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). According to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors version 1.1 (RECIST1.1), the patient showed a complete response (CR) after triple-combined therapy with progression-free survival (PFS) for more than 2 years so far. The patient had no other significant adverse reactions except for fatigue (Grade 1). The triple-combination therapy provided a promising strategy for metastatic chemo-refractory MSS/pMMR mCRC patients.

Microplastics pose great risks to terrestrial systems owing to their large quantity and strong persistence. Higher plants, an irreplaceable part of the terrestrial ecosystem, are inevitably exposed to microplastics. This review highlights the effects of microplastics on higher plant growth and performance. The tested microplastics, plant species, and cultural methods used in existing studies were summarized. We discussed the reasons why these microplastics, plants, and methods were selected. The various responses of higher plants to microplastics in both soils and waters were critically reviewed. We also highlighted the influencing mechanisms of microplastics on higher plants. Conclusively, more than 13 types of common microplastics and more than 30 species of higher plants have been selected and studied by the published literatures. Soil culture tests and hydroponic experiments are almost equally divided. The effects of microplastics on higher plants varied among microplastic properties, plant species, and environmental factors. Microplastics had no or positive effects on higher plants under certain experimental conditions. However, more studies showed that microplastics can inhibit higher plant growth and performance. We reduced the inhibitory mechanisms into direct and indirect mechanisms. The direct mechanisms include blocking pores or light, causing mechanical damage to roots, hindering genes expression, and releasing additives. The indirect mechanisms contain changing soil properties, affecting soil microbes or soil animals, and affecting bioavailability of other pollutants. This review improves the understanding of effects and influencing mechanisms of microplastics on higher plants.

In the multimode teaching optimization model, weight distribution is a complex multiobjective decision-making problem. In this paper, a Bayesian network based on probability model is proposed, which is combined with the large entropy criterion to determine the comprehensive weight. The combination of Bayesian network and Bayesian statistics can make full use of the information of domain knowledge and sample data. Bayesian network uses arc to represent the dependence between variables and probability distribution table to represent the strength of dependence. It organically combines prior information with sample knowledge to promote the integration of prior knowledge and data, which is particularly effective when sample data is sparse or difficult to obtain. Bayesian network is used to associate objective attributes and influencing factors to self-study the target weight. By grasping the characteristics of information technology and the nature of university citizenship curriculum, this paper further analyzes the internal relationship between them, promotes the deep integration of the two, and improves the effectiveness of university citizenship curriculum teaching. By grasping the characteristics of information technology and the nature of the school civics curriculum, we promote a deeper integration of the two. It is my education that is more advanced.

ObjectiveThis study aims to highlight the use of robots in surgery and that of tube-assisted minimally invasive surgery for spinal metastases, as well as elaborate on the concept of invasion-controlled surgery (ICS).Summary of backgroundMany patients with spinal metastasis cancer cannot afford serious complications when undergoing traditional open surgery because of their poor physical condition. Robots and minimally invasive technology have been introduced into the field of spine surgery and they have shown significant advantages.MethodsSix patients who underwent robot and working tube-assisted ICS for spinal metastases. Relevant demographic, medical, surgical, and postoperative data were collected from medical records and analyzed.ResultsMean operative time was 3.8 h and the mean length of the surgical incision was 4.9 cm. The mean estimated blood loss was 400 ml. The mean bedtime and hospital length of stay were 3.2 days and 6.5 days, respectively. No obvious complications were reported during treatment. The mean accuracy of screw placement was 98%. The mean time for further system treatment after surgery was 5.8 days. All patients experienced significant pain relief. The mean preoperative visual analog scale (VAS) was 7.83 points. The mean VAS at 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after surgery were 2.83, 1.83, and 1.17 points, respectively. Frankel grade was improved in five of six patients. One patient preoperatively with Frankel grade D was the same postoperatively.ConclusionThe concept of ICS is suitable for patients with spinal metastases. Robot and working tube-assisted ICS for spinal metastases is one of the safest and most effective treatment methods.

Background Sepsis-associated encephalopathy is a severe complication due to systemic infection. Although early stages involve pathophysiological changes, detection using conventional imaging is challenging. Glutamate chemical exchange saturation transfer and diffusion kurtosis imaging can noninvasively investigate cellular and molecular events in the early stage of the disease by MRI. N-acetylcysteine, an antioxidant and precursor of glutathione, regulates the metabolism of the neurotransmitter glutamate and participates in neuroinflammation. We aimed to investigate the protective role of n-acetylcysteine in sepsis-associated encephalopathy using a rat model and monitor changes in the brain using magnetic resonance molecular imaging. Methods Bacterial lipopolysaccharide was injected intraperitoneally into the rats to induce a sepsis-associated encephalopathy model. The behavioural performance was assessed using the open field test. Tumour necrosis factor alpha and glutathione levels were detected biochemically. Imaging was performed using a 7.0-T MRI scanner. Protein expressions and cellular damage were assessed by western blotting and pathological staining, respectively. We also evaluated changes in the blood-brain barrier permeability by the Evans blue staining. Results The lipopolysaccharide-induced rats showed reduced anxiety and depression after treatment with n-acetylcysteine. Magnetic resonance molecular imaging can identify pathological processes at different stages of the disease. Furthermore, rats treated with n-acetylcysteine showed increased glutathione levels and decreased tumour necrosis factor alpha, suggesting enhanced antioxidant capacity and inhibition of inflammatory processes, respectively. Western blot analysis showed a reduced expression of nuclear factor kappa B (p50) protein after treatment, suggesting that n-acetylcysteine inhibits inflammation via this signalling pathway. Finally, n-acetylcysteine treated rats also showed reduced cellular damage by pathology and reduced extravasation of their blood-brain barrier by Evan Blue staining. Conclusion This study showed that n-acetylcysteine might be a therapeutic option for sepsis-associated encephalopathy and other neuroinflammatory diseases. Furthermore, non-invasive ‘dynamic visual monitoring’ of the physiological and pathological changes related to sepsis-associated encephalopathy was achieved for the first time using magnetic resonance molecular imaging, which provides a more sensitive imaging basis for early clinical diagnosis, identification, and prognosis.

Pressure, a fundamental thermodynamic variable, can generate two essential effects on materials. First, pressure can create new high-pressure phases via modification of the potential energy surface. Second, pressure can produce new compounds with unconventional stoichiometries via modification of the compositional landscape. These new phases or compounds often exhibit exotic physical and chemical properties that are inaccessible at ambient pressure. Recent studies have established a broad scope for developing materials with specific desired properties under high pressure. Crystal structure prediction methods and first-principles calculations can be used to design materials and thus guide subsequent synthesis plans prior to any experimental work. A key example is the recent theory-initiated discovery of the record-breaking high-temperature superhydride superconductors H3S and LaH10 with critical temperatures of 200 K and 260 K, respectively. This work summarizes and discusses recent progress in the theory-oriented discovery of new materials under high pressure, including hydrogen-rich superconductors, high-energy-density materials, inorganic electrides, and noble gas compounds. The discovery of the considered compounds involved substantial theoretical contributions. We address future challenges facing the design of materials at high pressure and provide perspectives on research directions with significant potential for future discoveries., This work summarizes and discusses recent progress in the theory-oriented discovery of new materials under high pressure, including hydrogen-rich superconductors, high-energy-density materials, inorganic electrides, and noble gas compounds.

The effect of Cl− concentration on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility of high manganese steel was investigated by slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) test, electrochemical test, and immersion test in different NaCl concentration solutions. The results show that the SCC susceptibility of the test steel first increases and then decreases with the increase in Cl− concentration. When the NaCl concentration was 10.5%, the SCC susceptibility was the highest, and the fracture showed river-like transgranular quasi-cleavage morphology, obvious tearing ridge, and strong brittle fracture characteristics. The corrosion current density of the sample first increases and then decreases with the increase in Cl− concentration in the corrosive medium. The corrosion electrochemical reaction and corrosion product layer play a synergistic role in SCC in low concentration Cl− medium. The enrichment of alloying element compounds in the corrosion layer leads to the local acidification below the corrosion layer, which promotes the anodic dissolution (AD) and forms pitting corrosion on the substrate surface. When the Cl− concentration is high, the local AD and hydrogen embrittlement (HE) caused by the dissolved oxygen will be weakened, and SCC susceptibility is reduced.

ObjectiveOur study aims to estimate intra-fraction six-dimensional (6D) tumor motion with rotational correction and the related correlations between motions of different degrees of freedom (DoF), as well as quantify sufficient anisotropic clinical target volume (CTV) to planning target volume (PTV) margins during stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) of liver cancer with fiducial tracking technique.MethodsA cohort of 12 patients who were implanted with 3 or 4 golden markers were included in this study, and 495 orthogonal kilovoltage (kV) pairs of images acquired during the first fraction were used to extract the spacial position of each golden marker. Translational and rotational motions of tumor were calculated based on the marker coordinates by using an iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm. Moreover, the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients (r) were applied to quantify the correlations between motions with different degrees of freedom (DoFs). The population mean displacement (MP¯), systematic error (Σ) and random error (σ) were obtained to calculate PTV margins based on published recipes.ResultsThe mean translational variability of tumors were 0.56, 1.24 and 3.38 mm in the left-right (LR, X), anterior-posterior (AP, Y), and superior-inferior (SI, Z) directions, respectively. The average rotational angles θX , θY and θZ around the three coordinate axes were 0.88, 1.24 and 1.12, respectively. (|r|>0.4) was obtainted between Y -Z , Y - θZ , Z -θZ and θX - θY . The PTV margins calculated based on 13 published recipes in X, Y, and Z directions were 1.08, 2.26 and 5.42 mm, and the 95% confidence interval (CI) of them were (0.88,1.28), (1.99,2.53) and (4.78,6.05), respectively.ConclusionsThe maximum translational motion was in SI direction, and the largest correlation coefficient of Y-Z was obtained. We recommend margins of 2, 3 and 7 mm in LR, AP and SI directions, respectively.

Cadmium accumulation in rice is a major source of Cd exposure in humans worldwide. A three-year field experiment was conducted to investigate the ecological safety and long-term stability of biochar combined with lime or silicon fertilizer for Cd immobilization in a polluted rice paddy. The results showed that the application of combined ameliorants could reduce the Cd content in brown rice to meet the Chinese maximum permissible limit for Cd content in food products (0.2 mg/kg). In addition, such amendments stimulated metabolic pathways in soil bacteria, including carbon metabolism, citrate cycle, pyruvate metabolism, biosynthesis of amino acids, and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, revealing improvements in soil biological activity and soil health. Therefore, the results provide a practical strategy for the safe utilization of farmland with mild levels of heavy metal pollution.

Objective We aimed to compare the dosimetric characteristics of 6‐MV flattening filter mode (FF) and flattening filter‐free mode (FFF) volumetric‐modulated arc therapy (VMAT) plans in preoperative radiotherapy for rectal cancer using an Edge linear accelerator. Methods Two‐arc FF‐VMAT and FFF‐VMAT plans were generated for 15 patients with rectal cancer using the Philips Pinnacle treatment planning system (version 9.10). The homogeneity index, conformity index, planning target volume covered by 105% isodose lines, organ‐at‐risk dosimetry characteristics, and monitor units (MUs) were compared between the plans. The results were analyzed using paired t‐tests. Results The conformity index of the FF‐VMAT plan and FFF‐VMAT plan were (0.93 ± 0.01) and (0.92 ± 0.02), and the homogeneity index of the two groups were (0.07 ± 0.03) and (0.08 ± 0.01), the differences were not statistically significant (both P > 0.05). The volume covered by 105% isodose lines of the FFF‐VMAT plan was significantly higher than that of the FF‐VMAT plan. The FFF‐VMAT plan required a higher monitor unit (t = 11.49, P = 0.002) and shorter beam‐on time (t = 5.78, P = 0.001) compared with the FF‐VMAT plan. There were no significant differences in the absolute volume receiving 30 Gy and 40 Gy of the bladder between the plans. The absolute volume receiving 30 Gy and absolute volume receiving 40 Gy of the intestine and colon in the FFF‐VMAT plan increased by 5.5% and 2.1% compared with those in the FF‐VMAT plans that increased by 7.2% and 2.2%, respectively (both P > 0.05). The absolute volume receiving 20 Gy of the left and right femoral head in the FFF‐VMAT plan decreased by 3.7% and 4.9% compared with those in the FF‐VMAT plans (P > 0.05). Conclusion Both FF‐VMAT and FFF‐VMAT plans met the clinical requirements.

Purpose: To study the anti-allergic effects of ethanol extract of Cnidium monnieri (L.) Cuss. on 2, 4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis in mice.Method: Atopic dermatitis (AD) was induced by DNCB in Balb/c mice, and the mice randomly divided into normal group, negative control group, hydrocortisone group, and ethanol extract of Cnidium monnieri (L.) Cuss. (EECM) group. Ear swelling was determined by measuring the thicknesses of the left and right ears of each mouse. Spleen and thymus indices were calculated from spleen, thymus and body weight values. The levels of TNF-α and IgE in serum were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Hematoxylin-eosin (H & E) staining and toluidine blue staining were used to evaluate pathological changes in ear tissue, while high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was performed to ascertain the bioactive compounds in EECM.Results: Compared with the negative control group, EECM significantly alleviated skin lesions, reduced thickness of ear swelling, and decreased spleen and thymus indexes of mice (p < 0.05). Moreover, EECM significantly reduced epidermal thickness (p < 0.01). However, EECM did not significantly alter the number of mast cells (p > 0.05). The expressions of TNF-α and IgE in serum were also significantly down-regulated (p < 0.01, p < 0.05). Results from HPLC revealed that the contents of bergapten, imperatorin and osthole in EECM were 0.73, 3.69 and 9.40 mg/g, respectively.Conclusion: EECM ameliorates AD in mice via inhibition of inflammation and by a mechanism that might be related to the regulation of TNF-α and IgE levels. The major bioactive constituents of EECM are osthole, imperatorin and bergapten. Thus, this plant extract has a potential to be developed for the treatment of of atopic dermatitis.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a unique clinical entity elicited by diabetes independent of other cardiovascular risk factors, of which the pathological mechanisms and treatment strategies remain largely undefined. This study aimed to clarify the role of unfolded protein response (UPR) signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of DCM, and to explore the effect of aqueous extract of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and Carthami Flos (DH) on DCM mice. Cardiac function of DCM mice was evaluated by echocardiography, and lipid profile of left ventricular was analyzed by untargeted lipidomics. The results showed that DH significantly improved the diabetic symptoms, cardiac dyslipidemia, and systolic dysfunction of DCM mice. UPR signaling pathway was significantly down-regulated in the left ventricular of DCM mice. DH significantly up-regulated the transcriptions of key transducers in UPR signaling pathway. Conditional knockout of Xbp1 in cardiomyocyte (a key regulator in UPR signaling pathway) eliminated the protective effect of DH on cardiac systolic function of DCM mice, which suggested that UPR signaling pathway, especially the Xbp1, was required for DH protection against DCM. In conclusion, DH improved cardiac function of DCM mice, and this effect was dependent on its regulation of UPR signaling pathway.

Patients with metastatic cancer refractory to standard systemic therapies have a poor prognosis and few therapeutic options. Radiotherapy can shape the tumor microenvironment (TME) by inducing immunogenic cell death and promoting tumor recognition by natural killer cells and T lymphocytes. Granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) was known to promote dendric cell maturation and function, and might also induce the macrophage polarization with anti-tumor capabilities. A phase II trial (ChiCTR1900026175) was conducted to assess the clinical efficacy and safety of radiotherapy, PD-1 inhibitor and GM-CSF (PRaG regimen). This trial was registered at http://www.chictr.org.cn/index.aspx. A PRaG cycle consisted of 3 fractions of 5 or 8 Gy delivered for one metastatic lesion from day 1, followed by 200 μg subcutaneous injection of GM-CSF once daily for 2 weeks, and intravenous infusion of PD-1 inhibitor once within one week after completion of radiotherapy. The PRaG regimen was repeated every 21 days for at least two cycles. Once the PRaG therapy was completed, the patient continued PD-1 inhibitor monotherapy until confirmed disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR). A total of 54 patients were enrolled with a median follow-up time of 16.4 months. The ORR was 16.7%, and the disease control rate was 46.3% in intent-to-treat patients. Median progression-free survival was 4.0 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.3 to 4.8), and median overall survival was 10.5 months (95% CI, 8.7 to 12.2). Grade 3 treatment-related adverse events occurred in five patients (10.0%) and grade 4 in one patient (2.0%). Therefore, the PRaG regimen was well tolerated with acceptable toxicity and may represent a promising salvage treatment for patients with chemotherapy-refractory solid tumors. It is likely that PRaG acts via heating upthe TME with radiotherapy and GM-CSF, which was further boosted by PD-1 inhibitors.

Background Collecting (Bellini) duct carcinoma (CDC) is a highly malignant and rare kidney tumor. We report our 12-year experience with CDC and the results of a retrospective analysis of patients and tumor characteristics, clinical manifestations, and imaging features by computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET)/CT. Methods Retrospective examination of tumors between January 2007 and December 2019 identified 13 cases of CDC from three medical centers in northern China. All 13 patients underwent CT scan, among which eight underwent dynamic enhanced CT scan, two underwent PET/CT scan, and one underwent magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) examination. The lesions were divided into nephritis type and mass type according to the morphology of the tumors. Results The study group included ten men and three women with an average age of 64.23 ± 10.74 years. The clinical manifestations were gross hematuria, flank pain, and waist discomfort. The mean tumor size was 8.48 ± 2.48 cm. Of the 13 cases, six (46.2%) were cortical-medullary involved type and seven (53.8%) were cortex–medullary–pelvis involved type. Eleven (84.6%) cases were nephritis type and two (15.4%) were mass type. The lesions appeared solid or complex solid and cystic on CT and MRI. The parenchymal area of the tumors showed isodensity or slightly higher density on unenhanced CT scan in the 13 cases. PET/CT in two cases showed increased radioactivity intake. Evidence of intra-abdominal metastatic disease was present on CT in nine (69.2%) cases. Conclusions The imaging characteristics of CDC differ from those of other renal cell carcinomas. In renal tumors located in the junction zone of the renal cortex and medulla that show unclear borders, slight enhancement, and metastases in the early stage, a diagnosis of CDC needs to be considered. PET/CT provides crucial information for the diagnosis of CDC, as well as for designing treatment strategies including surgery.

The present study aimed to compare the responses of two rice cultivars to titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nTiO2), in plant performance and root-associated soil microbes, and provide a reference for the selection of nanoparticle-responsive varieties. The field experiment was conducted to study the effects of nTiO2 (applied at 200 mg/kg) on typical Chinese rice cultivars, Wuyunjing23 (WYJ23) and Yongyou2640 (YY2640), for the whole life cycle. We evaluated agronomic and physiological parameters including chlorophyll content and antioxidant enzyme activities at the heading stage, and biomass, Ti, and nutrient elements uptake after harvest. Soil bacterial communities were also measured through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Exposure to nTiO2 led to neither Ti accumulation nor changed biomass in either cultivar, but it increased root Fe uptake and reduced grain Cu content. Specifically, nTiO2 exposure decreased the chlorophyll content but increased the peroxidase activity in WYJ23; such altered physiology might affect root exudates and further modify bacterial communities. Although nTiO2 did not induce visible phytotoxicity in YY2640, it affected the abundance of bacteria genera associated with N turnover and plant-C-metabolizing (e.g., Geobacter and Gaiella), resulting in changed C and N cycling in the rhizosphere. This study revealed divergent responses of WYJ23 and YY2640 to nTiO2, both in plant physiology and rhizosphere system. nTiO2 induced greater physiological response but affected the rhizosphere little in WYJ23. By contrast, nTiO2 changed soil microbes and enzyme activities without affecting the physiology of YY2640, suggesting its superior adaptivity to nTiO2.

BackgroundIn China, more than 20 million patients with chronic hepatitis B need antiviral treatment. Side effects of antiviral treatment such as renal complications can be problematic, particularly in an aging population.MethodsThe data were retrospectively extracted from the hospital medical charts of five centers in eastern China from January 1 to December 31, 2018.ResultsA total of 8309 patients with CHB was enrolled in this study. The median age of the patients was 46 years. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hepatic cirrhosis was respectively 3.49%, 4.42%, and 23.72%. The prevalence of these comorbidities increased with age (P 2accounted for 4.14%, and those with proteinuria for 8.33%. According to the definition of chronic kidney disease, the proportion of patients with chronic kidney disease was 11.37%. Element B in binary metal borides forms various polymetric configurations due to its electron-deficient nature. Here we predict a new pressure-stabilized boron clathrate structure, LaB8, that is recoverable under ambient conditions. Crystal structure searches and first-principles calculations predict a series of thermodynamically stable La–B compounds at high pressures. Besides known LaB4 and LaB6 compounds, trigonal LaB8 is predicted to be thermodynamically stable above 70 GPa. Its B atoms construct face-sharing B26 cages, each surrounding a central La atom. The compound can be recovered to ambient conditions with the B26 cages well preserved. Electron–phonon coupling calculations suggest that it is potentially superconducting with an estimated Tc of 5 K at 70 GPa, which increases to ∼20 K at ambient pressure. The enhanced Tc is attributed to the increased B-derived electronic density of states at the Fermi level and to the softened Eu mode related to vibration of the B26 cages.

There is great economic and environmental value in recovering valuable metal ions from spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). A novel method that employs organic acid recovery using citric acid and salicylic acid was used to enhance the leaching of metal ions from the cathode materials of spent LIBs. The effects of the acid concentration, reducing agent content, solid to liquid (S : L) ratio, temperature, and leaching time were systematically analyzed and the optimal acid leaching process condition was determined through the results. The kinetics of the leaching process with different temperatures was analyzed to explore and verify the relationship between the leaching mechanism and temperature. The results of TG/DSC analysis showed that the optimum calcination temperature was 500 °C for 1 h and 600 °C for 3 h. The XRD and micromorphology analysis results showed that cathode material powders without impurities were obtained after pretreatment. The experimental results demonstrated that the optimal leaching efficiencies of the metals ions were 99.5% Co and 97% Li and the optimal corresponding condition was 1.5 M citric acid, 0.2 M salicylic acid, a 15 g L−1 S : L ratio, 6 vol% H2O2, 90 °C, and 90 min. Afterward, the infrared tests and SEM morphologies results indicated that only salicylic acid was present in the residue after filtration because of the microsolubility of the salicylic acid. Finally, it was obvious that the temperature had a great influence on the leaching process as observed through the kinetics and thermodynamics analyses, while the Ea values for Co and Li were obtained as 37.96 kJ mol−1 and 25.82 kJ mol−1 through the kinetics model. The whole process was found to be efficient and reasonable for recovering valuable metals from the industrial electrodes of spent LIBs.

The recent discovery of superconductivity near room temperature in highly compressed superhydrides highlights the key role of the hydrogen cage structure in determining the high superconducting critical temperature. Here, we propose a hitherto unknown metastable cage boron allotrope possessing high superconductivity at ambient pressure. Using first-principles calculations with structure searching, we have predicted various dynamically stable structures for MnB12 that can be possibly synthesized at high pressures and high temperatures. Among these structures the tetragonal t-MnB12 contains unique B16 cages, which are linked to each other to form open channels filled with Mn atoms. The removal of Mn atoms leads to the formation of a tetragonal cage boron allotrope t-B, which possesses partial ionicity due to the slight charge transfer between two inequivalent B atoms. t-B is a potential superconductor with an estimated critical temperature of 43 K, the highest value in elemental superconductors at ambient pressure.

Background. Data mining of current gene expression databases has not been previously performed to determine whether sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) expression participates in the pathological process of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). The present study was aimed at investigating the role and mechanism of SIRT6 in regulating phenotype transformation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) in AAA. Methods. Three gene expression microarray datasets of AAA patients in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and one dataset of SIRT6-knockout (KO) mice were selected, and the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using GEO2R. Furthermore, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses of both the AAA-related DEGs and the SIRT6-related DEGs were conducted. Results. GEO2R analysis showed that the expression of SIRT6 was downregulated for three groups and upregulated for one group in the three datasets, and none of them satisfied statistical significance. There were top 5 DEGs (KYNU, NPTX2, SCRG1, GRK5, and RGS5) in both of the human AAA group and SIRT6-KO mouse group. Top 25 ontology of the SIRT6-KO-related DEGs showed that several pathways including tryptophan catabolic process to kynurenine and negative regulation of cell growth were enriched in the tissues of thickness aortic wall biopsies of AAA patients. Conclusions. Although SIRT6 mRNA level itself did not change among AAA patients, SIRT6 may play an important role in regulating several signaling pathways with significant association with AAA, suggesting that SIRT6 mRNA upregulation is a protective factor for VSMC against AAA.
