DESCRIPTION OF LYSINIMONAS YZUI SP. NOV. Lysinimonas yzui (y.zu ��� i. N.L. gen. n. yzui pertaining to YZU, Yangzhou University, where the taxonomic studies on the type strain were performed). Cells are Gram-stain-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic and non-motile rods. Colonies are yellow, round and convex aħer 4 days of growth at 28 ��C on R2A agar. Cells are usually 0.5���0.7 ��m wide and 1.0��� 1.1 ��m long. Growth occurs at 10���37 ��C (optimum 30 ��C) and at pH 6���9 (optimum pH 7.5) and in the presence of 0���5% (w/v) NaCl. Growth does not occur under anaerobic conditions. Oxidase-negative, urease-negative and catalase-positive. Negative for hydrolysis of carboxymethyl cellulose, gelatin, DNA, casein, starch and tyrosine and positive for hydrolysis of Tween 80. Does not assimilate erythritol, D-arabinose, D-ribose, L-xylose, D-ardonitol, methyl ��-D-xylopyranoside, L-sorbose, D-sorbitol, raffinose, starch, D-lyxose, D-tagatose, D-fucose, L-fucose, potassium gluconate or potassium 5-ketogluconate (API 50 CH test strips). Positive for the following enzyme activities (API ZYM test strips): alkaline phosphatase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), cystine aromatase, acid phosphatase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphate hydrolase, ��-galactosidase, ��-galactosidase, ��-gluconase and ��-gluconase. The major fatty acids are anteiso-C15:0, iso-C15:0, C16:0, iso-C16:0 and anteiso-C17:0. The type strain, N7XX-4 T (=CGMCC 1.16548 T =DSM 106791 T = JCM 32630 T), was isolated from cattail root grown on mine tailings from Phoenix Mountain, Tongling city, Anhui Province (PR China). Antioxidant potencies of an ethanolic extract and its components from Lepidium latifolium were investigated. In this study, we found that the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of L. latifolium was a rich source of antioxidant, resulting from its high total phenolic content. To determine the antioxidant components of the ethyl acetate fraction, a bioassay-guided fractionation approach using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonate), and ferric reducing antioxidant power assays were conducted. Nine compounds were isolated and their structures were identified by MS and NMR spectral data and comparison to reported data. They are Quercetin-3-O-β-d-sophoroside-7-O-α-l-rhamnoside (1), Apetalumoside B6 (2), Kaempferol-3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1-2)-β-d-glucopyranoside-7-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (3), Kaempferol-7-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (4), Kaempferol-3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside-7-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (5), Kaempferol-3-O-(2-O-feruloyl-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1-2)-β-d-glucopyranoside)-7-O-glucopyranoside (6), Kaempferol-3-O-β-d-sophoroside-7-O-α-l-rhamnoside (7), Kaempferol-3-O-robinoside-7-O-(2″″-(E)-feruloyl)-sophoroside (8), Quercetin-3-O-(2,6-di-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl)-β-d-glucopyranoside-7-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (9), compounds 1, 2, 4, and 8 had potent free radical scavenging activity. The IC50 values of these compounds were 9.8–12.3 and 7.4–31.4 μg/mL in DPPH and ABTS assays, respectively. The results indicate that L. latifolium is a potential natural source of antioxidants to treat several diseases related to oxidant by-products of human metabolism.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antiproliferative effect of phenylpropanoids isolated from the n-BuOH-soluble fraction of an ethanolic extract of Lagotis brevituba Maxim. The phenylpropanoids were identified as echinacoside, lagotioside, glucopyranosyl(1-6)martynoside, plantamoside, and verbascoside. Three of the compounds, lagotioside, glucopyranosyl(1-6)martynoside, and plantamoside, were isolated from L. brevituba for the first time. The antiproliferative activity of the isolates was evaluated in human gastric carcinoma (MGC-803), human colorectal carcinoma (HCT116), human hepatocellar carcinoma (HepG2), and human lung cancer (HCT116) cells using an 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. Plantamoside showed promising activity against MGC-803 cells, with a half maximal inhibitory concentration value of 37.09 μM. The mechanism of the pro-apoptosis effect of plantamoside was then evaluated in MGC-803 cells. Changes in cell morphology, including disorganization of the architecture of actin microfilaments and formation of apoptotic bodies, together with cell cycle arrest in G2/M phases, were observed after treatment of plantamoside. The antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effects were associated with a decrease in the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax and reduced mitochondrial membrane potential, which was accompanied by the release of reactive oxygen species and Ca2+ into the cytoplasm. Taken together, the results indicated that plantamoside promotes apoptosis via a mitochondria-dependent mechanism. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

A phytochemical investigation of Lagotis brevituba led to the isolation of 16 compounds, including five phenylpropanoids (1–5), eight flavonoids (6–13), one iridoid (14), one phenolic compound (15) and one triterpene (16). The structures of these compounds were identified by spectroscopic methods and a comparison of their data with those reported in the literature. This is the first report of compounds 1, 2, 7–13 and 15 from the genus Lagotis. The chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds has also been summarized.

Two new species, Saxifraga xiaozhongdianensis J. T. Pan and S. ludingensis J. T. Pan, from the Saxifragaceae in China are described and illustrated. Of these, S. xiaozhongdianensis is endemic to Zhongdian, Yunnan, and is related to S. brachyphylla Franchet. It differs from S. brachyphylla in the sepals adaxially dark brown glandular-villose and the petals basally subauriculate. Saxifraga ludingensis occurs in Luding, Sichuan, and is very similar to S. egregioides J. T. Pan and S. stellariifolia Franchet. It differs from S. egregioides in the stems brown glandular-villose, the cauline leaves adaxially brown glandular-villose, the sepals spreading in anthesis and abaxially brown glandular-villose, and the petals 5-veined. It differs from S. stellariifolia in the leaves cordate and abaxially glabrous, the sepals abaxially brown glandular-villose, and the petals 4-callose and 5-veined. Saxifraga xiaozhongdianensis and S. ludingeasis are apparently endemic to western China and belong to Saxifraga sect. Ciliatae Haworth, emend. J. T. Pan.

Background. Baduanjin exercise is considered to be beneficial to modulate the blood lipid metabolism. The purpose of the systematic review was to assess the potential efficacy and safety of Baduanjin exercise. Methods. MEDLINE, EMBASE, CBM, CNKI, VIP, Chinese Important Conference Papers Database, and Chinese Dissertation Database were searched for all prospective-controlled trials of Baduanjin exercise from their inception to December 31, 2011. Results. A total of 14 studies were included. Comparing with no treatment, Baduanjin exercise significantly reduced the levels of TC, TG, LDL-C in plasma, and elevated plasma HDL-C level for healthy participants, and the pooled MD (95% confidence interval, CI) was −0.58 mmol/L (−0.86, −0.30 mmol/L), −0.22 mmol/L (−0.31, −0.13 mmol/L), −0.35 mmol/L (−0.54, −0.17 mmol/L), 0.13 mmol/L (0.06, 0.21 mmol/L), respectively. Baduanjin exercise also obviously decreased the levels of TG, LDL-C in plasma comparing with no treatment for patients, and the pooled MD (95% CI) was −0.30 mmol/L (−0.40, −0.19 mmol/L), −0.38 mmol/L (−0.63, −0.13 mmol/L), but there was not obvious to decrease plasma TC level or elevate plasma HDL-C level in patients with the pooled MD (95%CI), −0.39 mmol/L (−1.09, 0.31 mmol/L) and 0.22 mmol/L (−0.11, 0.55 mmol/L), respectively. In addition, the obvious advantage was not observed to modulate the blood lipid metabolism in comparing Baduanjin exercise with other exercises, regardless for health participants or patients. Conclusion. Studies indicated that Baduanjin exercise could significantly decrease the levels of TC, TG, LDL-C levels in plasma and elevate plasma HDL-C level for the healthy people. It also was helpful that Baduanjin exercise modulated the blood lipid metabolism for patients. Moreover, the Baduanjin exercise did not have an obvious advantage on modulating the lipid metabolism comparing with other exercises. But the evidence was uncertain because of the small sample size and low-methodological quality.
