The main purpose of the present study was to compare the accuracy of total daily steps thresholds associated to the recommended 60 min per day moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in adolescents. A total of 156 adolescents, 87 males and 69 females, participated in the present study. Objectively-measured moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and steps were assessed by GT3X accelerometers for eight consecutive days. The accuracy of the following total daily steps thresholds was calculated (males/females): 9,930, 11,714, 12,000, 11,000/10,500, 14,000/11,500, 13,000/ 12,000, 8,500/7,500, 11,500/9,000, 10,500/9,500, 12,118, 12,118/12,605, and 10,000. The results of accuracy both uncensored and censored total daily steps cut-off points ranged from low to high. For the uncensored total daily steps, the cut-off 11,000 for males and 10,500 for females showed the best results: Sensitivity = .85; Specificity = .94; Youden’s index = .78; Proportion of agreement = .93, and Kappa coefficient = .67, p < .001. For the censored total daily steps, the 10,000 cut-off score showed the best results: Sensitivity = .77; Specificity = .95; Youden’s index = .72; Proportion of agreement = .93, and Kappa coefficient = .65, p < .001. Among adolescents for accelerometry-measured total daily steps the 11,000 for males and 10,500 for females cut-off points should be used. For population guidelines regarding health-enhancing steps in adolescents, the cut-off point of 10,000 daily steps seems to be the most appropriate., El propósito principal del presente estudio fue comparar la precisión de los umbrales de pasos diarios totales asociados a la recomendación de 60 minutos por día de actividad física moderada-vigorosa en adolescentes. Un total de 156 adolescentes, 87 varones y 69 mujeres, participaron en el presente estudio. La actividad física moderada-vigorosa y pasos se evaluaron objetivamente con acelerómetros GT3X durante ocho días consecutivos. Se calculó la precisión de los siguientes umbrales de pasos diarios totales (varones/mujeres): 9.930, 11.714, 12.000, 11.000/10.500, 14.000/11.500, 13.000/12.000, 8.500/7.500, 11.500/9.000, 10.500/9.500, 12.118, 12.118/12.605 y 10.000. Los resultados de precisión para los puntos de corte de los pasos diarios ajustados y no ajustados variaron de bajo a alto. Para los pasos diarios no ajustados, los puntos de corte 11.000 para los varones y 10.500 para las mujeres mostraron los mejores resultados: Sensibilidad= 0,85; Especificidad= 0,94; Índice de Youden= 0,78; Proporción de acuerdo= 0,93, y coeficiente de Kappa= 0,67, p < 0,001. Para los pasos diarios ajustados, el puntaje de corte de 10.000 mostró los mejores resultados: Sensibilidad= 0,77; Especificidad= 0,95; Índice de Youden= 0,72; Proporción de acuerdo= 0,93, y coeficiente de Kappa= 0,65, p < 0,001. Entre los adolescentes para los pasos diarios totales medidos con acelerometría se deberían utilizar los puntos de corte 11.000 para los varones y 10.500 para las mujeres. Para las recomendaciones a nivel poblacional sobre los pasos relacionados con la salud en los adolescentes, el punto de corte de 10.000 pasos diarios parece ser el más apropiado.

El objetivo principal del presente estudio fue examinar la invarianza factorial del Cuestionario de Autoconcepto Físico Modificado (CAF-M) en universitarios mexicanos deportistas y no deportistas. La muestra total fue de 1.528 universitarios mexicanos, 651 deportistas y 877 no deportistas, con una edad media de 20,78 años (DE = 2,45). Los análisis factoriales confirmatorios mostraron que una estructura de dos factores es viable y adecuada para ambas poblaciones. Atendiendo a criterios estadísticos y sustantivos, la estructura de dos factores (competencia motora y atractivo físico) ha mostrado adecuados indicadores de ajuste de fiabilidad y validez. Además, la estructura factorial, las cargas factoriales y los interceptos se consideran invariantes en las dos poblaciones estudiadas. Se encontraron diferencias entre los universitarios deportistas y no deportistas para las medias de ambos factores. Por último, el presente estudio también confirma la validez del modelo bidimensional del autoconcepto físico. Futuras investigaciones deberían replicar estos hallazgos en poblaciones con diferentes factores culturales y personales. The main purpose of the present study was to examine the factorial invariance of the Modified Physical Self-Concept Questionnaire (CAF-M) in athlete and non-athlete Mexican university students. A sample of 1,528 Mexican university students, 651 athletes and 877 non-athletes, with an average age of 20.78 years (SD = 2.45) was used. The confirmatory factor analyses showed that a two-factor structure is feasible and suitable for both populations. Based on statistical and substantive criteria, the two-factor structure (motor competency and physical attractiveness) has shown adequate adjustment indicators of reliability and validity. Additionally, the factor structure, factor loadings and intercepts are considered invariant in both studied populations. Differences between athlete and non-athlete university students in the means values of the two factors were found. Finally, the present study also confirms the validity of the two-dimensional model of the physical self-concept. Future research studies should replicate these findings in populations with different cultural and personal factors. O principal objetivo deste estudo foi examinar a invariância fatorial Modificado Questionário de Auto Física (CAF-M) em atletas e não-atletas universitários mexicanos. A amostra total foi de 1.528 estudantes universitários no México, 651 atletas e 877 não-atletas, com média de idade de 20,78 anos (DP = 2,45). Análise fatorial confirmatória mostrou que uma estrutura de dois fatores é factível e adequado para ambas as populações. Em resposta a critérios estatísticos e materiais, a estrutura de dois fatores (competência motora e atratividade física) tem mostrado indicadores de ajuste adequados de confiabilidade e validade. Além disso, a estrutura de fatores, cargas fatoriais e intercepta são considerados invariantes em ambas as populações estudadas. Diferenças entre atletas e não-atletas universitários para o meio de ambos os fatores foram encontrados. Finalmente, este estudo também confirma a validade do modelo de duas dimensões do ser físico. Pesquisas futuras devem replicar essas descobertas em populações com diferentes fatores culturais e pessoais.

Introducción. El presente estudio analiza las propiedades psicométricas del cuestionario de percepción de justicia en la lectura de la prensa deportiva. Apoyados en la teoría organizacional del ámbito del trabajo (Greenberg, 1987) y en el cuestionario de percepción de justicia de Colquitt (2001), se adaptaron los conceptos al ámbito de la prensa deportiva, dado que no existen instrumentos que midan la influencia de la lectura de la prensa deportiva sobre la percepción de justicia de los lectores. Método. La muestra se compuso de 220 participantes, 166 hombres y 54 mujeres, con edades de 20,72 ± 3,08 años (18-41 años). Se realizaron análisis factoriales exploratorio y confirmatorio para analizar la estructura factorial del cuestionario con dos submuestras divididas aleatoriamente. Resultados. Los resultados mostraron la viabilidad y adecuación de una estructura con tres factores (justicia informacional, justicia interpersonal, justicia distributiva) con adecuados índices de ajuste de validez y fiabilidad, mostrando evidencias consistentes de la estructura factorial obtenida. Discusión. Disponer de un instrumento válido para medir la percepción de justicia que origina la lectura de la prensa deportiva en los lectores podrá en el futuro originar líneas de investigación de gran interés social y científico. Estas líneas podrán abrir nuevos conocimientos en la psicología del deporte que nos permitan actuar de modo más adecuado en el tratamiento de los eventos deportivos mediáticos. Introduction. The present study analyzes the psychometric properties of the perceived justice in reading sport press questionnaire. The concepts of the organizational theory of Greenberg (1987) and the perception of justice questionnaire of Colquitt (2001) within the job sphere were adapted to the sport press domain. This, due to the fact that there does not exist an instrument that measures the influence of sport press reading on the perception of justice in sport press readers. Method. The sample consisted of 220 university students (166 men y 54 women, with an average age of 20.72 ± 3.08 years). Exploratory and confirmatory analyses were conducted in order to analyze the factorial structure of the questionnaire within two different sub-samples randomly divided. Results. The results showed the viability and adequacy of a three-factor structure (informational justice, interpersonal justice, distributive justice) with adequate fit indices of reliability and validity, and showing strong evidences of stability of the obtained factorial structure. Discussion. Having a valid instrument for measuring the perceived justice of readers caused by the reading of sport press could give rise to new research lines in the area of sport psychology. These research lines could cause new knowledge in the future for sport psychology, which could indicate a better way to act in in sport media events. Introdução. O presente estudo analisa as propriedades psicométricas do questionário de percepção de justiça na leitura da imprensa esportiva. Com suporte na teoria da organização do âmbito do trabalho (Greenberg, 1987) e no questionário de equidade percebida de Colquitt (2001), os conceitos adaptaram-se à imprensa esportiva, dado que não existem instrumentos para medir a influência da leitura de imprensa esportiva sobre a justiça percebida dos leitores. Método. A amostra foi composta de 220 estudantes universitários (166 homens e 54 mulheres, idade média = 20,72 ± 3,08 anos). Análises exploratórias e confirmatórias foram realizadas com a finalidade de analisar a estrutura fatorial do questionário. Resultados. Os resultados mostraram a viabilidade e adequação de uma estrutura de três factores (justiça da informação, justiça interpessoal, justiça da distribuição), com índices de ajuste de validade e confiabilidade adequados, evidências consistentes da estrutura fatorial obtida. Discussão. Ter um instrumento válido para medir a percepção de justiça dos leitores de imprensa esportiva poderá no futuro originar linhas de investigação de grande interesse social e científico. Essas linhas poderám abrir novos conhecimentos em psicologia do esporte, que nos permitam agir da forma mais adequada no tratamento dos eventos esportivos midiáticos.

Objectives: The aim and rationale of our study was to determine the acute effect of kinesio taping on theextensibility of the hamstring muscle among university students.Design: An intra-subject experimental design was used to evaluate the possible acute effects of KT using the Xshapedtaping technique in order to affect hamstring muscle extensibility.Method: Forty-three healthy university students (age 21.98 ± 4.68 years, body mass 71.50 ± 13.49 kg, height172.35 ± 8.17 cm) were assessed for hamstring flexibility. All participants had both legs tested under threedifferent randomly ordered conditions (kinesio tape, sham tape and control) using the Passive Straight Leg RaiseTest. All measurements were made during the same testing session. Participants performed three sets of tests,each set measured twice, to determine hamstring extensibility in both legs. There was a 12 minute rest periodbetween each set and a one minute break between each repetition.Results: An analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measurements showed no statistically significantdifferences either in the right (p=0.503) or the left leg (p=0.948) between the three study conditions.Conclusions: The application of kinesio taping does not seem to acutely increase hip flexion range of motion inhealthy subjects.

El principal objetivo del presente estudio fue examinar la validez de criterio de los tests sit-and-reach clásico (SRC) y sit-and-reach con flexión plantar (SRF) para estimar la extensibilidad de la musculatura isquiosural en niños. Un total de 72 escolares (40 niños y 32 niñas) de 10-12 años de edad realizaron los tests lineales SRC y SRF, y el test criterio de medida elevación pasiva de la pierna recta. Los resultados de la correlación de Pearson (r) mostraron moderados valores de asociación de los tests SRC y SRF con la extensibilidad isquiosural (r = 0,71 y r = 0,74, ps < 0,01, respectivamente). Los valores de validez de criterio encontrados para el SRF fueron mayores que para el SRC, excepto para las niñas en el que fueron similares. Los hallazgos del presente estudio sugieren que la evaluación de la extensibilidad de la musculatura isquiosural mediante el test sit-and-reach debería realizarse permitiendo la flexión plantar, The main purpose of this study was to examine the criterion-related validity of classic sit-and-reach (CSR) and sit-and-reach with plantar flexion (SRF) tests for estimating hamstring extensibility in children. A total of 72 students (40 boys and 32 girls) aged 10-12 years performed the lineal tests CSR and SRF, and the criteria measure passive straight-leg raise test. Pearson´s correlation (r) results showed moderate values of association between CSR and SRF with hamstring extensibility (r = 0.71 and r = 0.74, ps < 0.01, respectively). Criterion-related validity values found for SRF were greater than for the CSR, except for the girls where the values were similar. The findings of this study suggest that the assessment of hamstring flexibility by sit-and-reach test should be performed allowing plantar flexion

The purposes of this study were to compare the objectively measured physical activity levels across physical education, school playtime and extra-curricular sport in secondary school students, as well as to examine the influence of gender, age, and body weight status on adolescents’ objective physical activity levels in these contexts. A hundred and two secondary school students (age 12.53±1.56 years) participated in the present study. Students’ objective physical activity levels were estimated by the multi-sensor device SenseWear Pro2 Armband during a physical education, school playtime and extra-curricular sport session. The result of the one-way multivariate analysis of covariance indicated statistically significant higher values of steps/ min, average metabolic equivalent of task, and time spent in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in extracurricular sport than in physical education and school playtime (p.05). This preliminary evidence could inform and guide future policy regarding the promotion of physical activity among adolescents in these important school-based contexts. Since physical activity engagement in compulsory physical activity contexts, such as physical education lessons, is clearly insufficient, parents, teachers and institutions should encourage students to achieve health-related physical activity levels during their free time.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a short-term flexibility program on hamstring and lumbar extensibility and its posterior reduction among primary schoolchildren in a physical education (PE) setting. Forty-five 10-to-11-year-old schoolchildren from two classes were clustered randomly to an experimental group (EG) (n=22) or a control group (CG) (n=23). During the PE classes, the students in EG performed a six-minute flexibility program twice a week for eight weeks. Subsequently, these students underwent a five-week detraining period.
