Evaluation of software reliability is an important part of the process of developing modern software. Many studies are aimed at improving models for measuring and predicting the reliability of software products. However, little attention is paid to approaches to comparing existing systems in terms of software reliability. Despite the enormous importance for practice (and for managing software development), a complete and proven comparison methodology does not exist. In this article, we propose a software reliability comparison methodology in which software reliability growth models are widely used. The proposed methodology has the following features: it provides certain level of flexibility and abstraction while keeping objectivity, i.e. providing measurable comparison criteria. Also, given the comparison methodology with a set of SRGMs and evaluation criteria it becomes much easier to disseminate information about reliability of wide range of software systems. The methodology was evaluated on the example of three mobile operating systems with open source: Sailfish, Tizen, CyanogenMod. A byproduct of our study is a comparison of the three analyzed Open Source mobile operating systems. The goal of this research is to determine which OS is stronger in terms of reliability. To this end we have performed a GQM analysis and we have identified 3 questions and 8 metrics. Considering the comparison of metrics, it appears that Sailfish is in most case the best performing OS. However, it is also the OS that performs the worst in most cases. On the contrary, Tizen scores the best in 3 cases out of 8, but the worst only in one case out of 8.

Smartphone users' satisfaction is related to several factors of interaction that represent criteria evaluated in the choice of the operating system. This paper investigates the usage satisfaction of Android, iOS and Windows Phone mobile operating systems users' and deals with multicriteria decision making. A survey was applied and 314 answers were obtained. The evaluated criteria and the scores obtained through the survey were the initial parameters for the multicriteria decision-making method TOPSIS. The method classified the three alternatives based on preferences over screen, terminology, learning and system capabilities. The iOS was the best classied in the proposed evaluations. Android got the second place in the Screen factors. In the others, Windows Phone was second and Android was third. A small variation in the weights did not change the order of classification found. Although ranking should reflect the decision makers preference, further investigations can be carried out using the TOPSIS method and its relationship to mobile devices interface.

This work aims at analysing the EU Commission’s decision Google Android of 18 July 2018. Rather than focusing on the deterring effect of the fine, we question both the underlying damage theory and the potential effects of associated remedies, especially with regard to Android’s two-sided structure. Not only is this structure the keystone of Google’s business model, but also that of Android’s very technical architecture. Such a market structure induces specificities in terms of value creation and stakeholders’ interdependence which urges to consider Google’s practices (anti-fragmentation provisions and apps’ pre-installation) under these two dimensions.; Ce travail porte sur la décision de la Commission européenne du 18 juillet 2018 dans l’affaire Google Android.

Information technology affects our personal, social and public life and has made a significant impact on the quality of life itself. The use of information systems affects the improvement of efficiency and effectiveness of a whole set of business functions and processes in a way that enables better quality of communication and coordination with all stakeholders, it also facilitates administration, reduces distribution and communication costs, helps in opening up new and unknown markets, and provides up - to - date information that is necessary for timely reactions to any changes we might face. The development of mobile operating systems has been ongoing for a long time, and because of their complexity, it is still in the process of development. Mobile operating systems combine personal computer operating system features with features that are necessary for manual or mobile use. Today, the most used operating system is Android, it is even more popular than the Windows operating system that is used on computers. Accordingly, up to 80.7% of mobile users use Android. As for other operating systems there is also the iOS mobile operating system, which is in fact Android's biggest competitor. For the purposes of the final assignment, operational systems are described throughout the paper, with an emphasis on detailed analysis and comparison of the Android and iOS systems, which are the leading operating systems on the market.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a comprehensive theoretical framework to explain the different diffusion dynamics of a technology realized under an open source (OS) regime vs a technology realized under a closed-proprietary (CP) regime. Design/methodology/approach Following a systematic combining approach, theoretical predictions derived from literature on diffusion of innovation and on open innovation were matched with empirical observations derived from a case study of two mobile operation systems, which were released under different technological regimes. Findings This paper proposes a theoretical framework and a set of original theoretical propositions that can help to explain the differences in the diffusion dynamics of technologies that are released under different regimes (i.e. CP vs OS). Research limitations/implications This paper provides managers a better understanding of the diffusion dynamics of technologies released according to an open innovation strategy. In addition, the empirical case study improves the understanding of an important industry (the MOS industry) that has not been fully investigated from the innovation diffusion perspective. Nevertheless, the efficacy and generalizability of the theoretical framework proposed in this paper require future empirical tests. Originality/value This paper makes an original contribution to the open innovation and innovation diffusion literature by linking, in a conceptual model, three antecedents of the diffusion of a new technology that previous literature has considered only separately: the regime under which the technology is released (OS vs CP), the contingencies related to the characteristics of the technology and to the network of its adopters, and the resulting barriers to adoption.

The number of Internet-connected mobile devices reportedly surpassed the human population in Oct. 2014, proving that such devices are an indispensable part of our daily lives. One might also argue that in the world of business, every business is potentially a “mobile” business. This is not surprising, as the increasing capabilities of mobile devices have paved the way for many new and exciting applications (e.g., mobile commerce and payment). However, due to their popularity and the amount of data that they can store and make accessible, these devices are increasingly being targeted by cybercriminals. This chapter presents background information on the capabilities of mobile devices, the role of mobile devices within an enterprise, mobile operating systems, and finally, mobile security and privacy threats.

The number of smartphones is constantly increasing and they have become a central part of our lives. A big role for their success is the large number of available applications. While these applications open up a lot of opportunities for their users, they can also pose risks. With the amount of available applications, it is inevitable that they also include bad quality software. While these applications may not pose a direct risk to the device itself, many of them are communicating to some kind of back-end server on the internet. Furthermore, "free" applications often include some kind of advertisement, which needs to be loaded from a server again. We analyze the existing ecosystem of third party tracking in web and mobile applications and evaluate defenses according to their effectiveness in blocking tracking efforts. We show that there is still a lot of information transmitted in clear text, without the use of Transport Layer Security. In addition, even when TLS is used, this tracking information can still be used by attackers for certain kind of attacks. Based on our findings, we propose different approaches to protect user privacy and security. Specifically, we explore notary-based validation schemes for certificate validation and provide a longitudinal study of certificate validation capabilities of available notary services. Mobile apps already employ certificate pinning to prevent interception attacks. However, the application still needs to be updated when the corresponding certificate changes. We therefore provide an on-device certificate pinning solution, which utilizes notary services to update pinned certificates automatically and transparently for the user. Finally, we evaluate existing Android malware analysis platforms and provide metrics on the effectiveness and inter-dependencies of these services. This allows security analysts to select the best fitting system or subset of systems to accomplish their analysis task.

Ključni dejavniki uspešnega razvoja mobilnih aplikacij so uporabnost, enostavnost in privlačnost aplikacij. Fast development of mobile technology, mobile networks and their services has contributed to fast development of mobile business, which is currently the fastest growing way of doing business, that includes phenomenal progress in development of mobile networks and technologies of mobile devices, such as are Smart phones, Tablets etc. All of that it is reflected by exceptional sales of mobile devices, which are growing every year and with increasing sales their role is becoming strengthened as primary way of doing business in present time. The mobile business is in many points of view more usefull than electronic business, because of two main critical advantages, which are mobility of devices and constantly on-line connection with Internet whenever and whereever we are to be situated. Since 2007, when Smart phones have started to emerge and grow, it has followed simultaneously exceptional development of mobile applications, which is achieving every year phenomenal growth at global market. Today different Apps stores are offering millions of mobile applications for users and their numbers are still growing. Developers and companies, who are developing and marketing their mobile applications, are meeting with even more greater chalenges. The competition is becoming every year keen, most of mobile applications users never download or use, only a small percentage of applications are succesfull by numbers of download, their long-term usage by users, succesful marketing and their profitability. We have discovered, that mobile business has become predominating way of doing business in the world, because of exceptional advantages, such as constantly performing services on-line, finding and positioning location, etc. Development of applications for each operating systems is different, such as there is different way of marketing over several App stores. Key factors for succesfull development of mobile applications are usefullness, simplicity and attractiveness of applications. It is very important that we develop mobile applications for the end users, by examining closely their behavior, needs, requests, desires and that on these basis we develop mobile applications, which will attract users. Apps should offer unique value in sense of convenience, entertainment and usefulness for users.

With the advent of new technologies, mobile apps gain popularity. During their creation, it is important to bear in mind the behaviour of the competition and the return on investments. The article aims at comparing the marketing mix of Android and iOS mob ile operating systems. The established objective will be implemented on the basis of a marketing mix analysis of both operating systems based on publicly accessible information and a survey research. To fulfil the goal, a research objective of the work is established as follows: ”Which weak points within the individual components of a marketing mix do specific mobile operating systems dispose?” The gained information from the given sources represent the recourse for the application of the marketing mix benc hmarking of the chosen platforms. The priority during the evaluation of the marketing mix components is the creation of research criteria which are assigned importance weight on the basis of the subjectivity of the evaluators. The benchmarking results show that generally there is no significant difference among the components of the marketing mix of both operating systems. However, the individual operating systems do have weak points within the individual criteria for each marketing mix. The article include s a proposal for a discussion concerning the changes of the weak points of the given components of the marketing mix of both mobile operating systems.

[EN] Rich-sensor smart phones have made possible the recent birth of the mobile sensing research area as part of ubiquitous sensing which integrates other areas such as wireless sensor networks and web sensing. There are several types of mobile sensing: individual, participatory, opportunistic, crowd, social, etc. The object of sensing can be people-centered or environment-centered. The sensing domain can be home, urban, vehicular Currently there are barriers that limit the social acceptance of mobile sensing systems. Examples of social barriers are privacy concerns, restrictive laws in some countries and the absence of economic incentives that might encourage people to participate in a sensing campaign. Several technical barriers are phone energy savings and the variety of sensors and software for their management. Some existing surveys partially tackle the topic of mobile sensing systems. Published papers theoretically or partially solve the above barriers. We complete the above surveys with new works, review the barriers of mobile sensing systems and propose some ideas for efficiently implementing sensing, fusion, learning, security, privacy and energy saving for any type of mobile sensing system, and propose several realistic research challenges. The main objective is to reduce the learning curve in mobile sensing systems where the complexity is very high., This work has been partially supported by the "Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion", through the "Plan Nacional de I+D+i 2008-2011" in the "Subprograma de Proyectos de Investigacion Fundamental", project TEC2011-27516, and by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, through the PAID-05-12 multidisciplinary projects.

[EN] Personal devices are penetrating most technology market sectors nowadays. Despite their growing computation power, they execute powerful yet heavy software platforms that, in the end, expose the physical hardware resource limitations. Such software platforms are becoming thick layers that contain an embedded mobile operating system with graphical tools, communication software supporting wired and wireless protocols, and virtual machines and hosting platforms to enable portable code execution. In the last decade, mobile devices have also become part of some real-time domains that in the past only used specialized computing hardware; this is the case of, for example, industrial control infrastructures where personal devices are used mainly for interfacing purposes. Still, the full adoption of personal embedded devices in real-time environments has not been achieved due to their temporal unpredictability derived, among other reasons, from the operating system's execution and concurrency model. Therefore, mechanisms for efficient and timely management of resources are needed to meet, at least, soft real-time constrains of the emerging application domains that are heavy resource consumers. In this paper, we describe a scheme for integrating resource management techniques on top of the concurrency model of embedded operating systems that use the active object concurrency model; we illustrate the approach by taking, just as example, the model of Symbian. Also, results are presented and discussed that validate the proposed resource management scheme., This work has been partly supported by the iLAND project (ARTEMIS-JU 100026) funded by the ARTEMIS JTU Call 1 and the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism (www.iland-artemis.org), ARTISTDesign NoE (IST-2007-214373) of the EU 7th Framework Programme, and by the Spanish national project REM4VSS (TIN 2011-28339).

Mobile ooerating systems most used nowadays with funcionalities, features and general descriptions, efectivity and a short analysis made to 2 applications with massive use in Colombia. The situation that according to initial investigations, disclosed that despite the great success they have had the income of mobile operating systems in Colombia (which has been a great impact on the world market) users can not maximize their capacity, mainly due to lack of knowledge about them, their safety, their functionality and its best. It has also been notable in Colombia, despite the variety of hardware to smartphones such as IPhone, HTC, Sony Ericsson and Nokia among others, have advanced technology, have had the anticipated interest. But as stated earlier, the end user often has no knowledge of mobile operating systems are being used and therefore prefer not to take risks by investing their money in something you may find it difficult to understand and they do not generate security, despite the benefits of the tools are created daily and can be used by users in either personal or professional life and rely on simple technology as their second-generation phones have been used for nearly 20 years. The evolution of software ecosystems is the result of the popularity and adoption of common architectural development for multiple product development and represents a significant shift in traditional software development style and process methodology. Currently several organizations are in practice with this new process model that embraces business as one of its central factors and have thrived as a result. There can be no doubt that the development of software ecosystems have caused major players in the software industry to rethink their operating practices and engage with third parties, opening their platforms to external entities to attain business objectives. In this paper we examine four of the organizations that are at the forefront of software ecosystem adoption, specifically for mobile devices and explore their business development models. This investigation explores and compares their business process models in terms of how they engage with the external players in order to develop and distribute software and services in this changing marketplace. The study found some commonalities as well as some salient differences in their business processes and presents an assessment of the health of each mobile OS-centric ecosystem. We conclude that this study will help in further aiding understanding of the business process role in this area of ecosystem software.

The commercial mobile phone industry is a relatively new one. Starting out in the 1980s, it has proliferated in both numbers and in terms of technology. The last decade saw a sharp increase in both the number of subscribers and the amount of services which was offered by mobile devices. In order to keep up with this fast evolution of the industry, phones have started to get much more complicated and ‘smarter’ due to the software which is used to run these phones. Multi touch screen menus, High Definition video playback, multi megapixel cameras and a plethora of connectivity options are just some of the features a consumer takes for granted in his/her new mobile device. In order to provide these services to the user the software inside the phone has gotten complex to the scale of becoming its own Operating System much akin to the Operating Systems used on personal computers. These mobile operating systems contain millions of lines of software code and cost a lot of money to maintain and develop. Moreover having a popular operating system benefits the organization as it draws in many developers who can write applications which run on this operating system and also develop services which are specific to the operating systems. Having these services generate revenue for the network operators who get to bill the consumers for using the services or for the data which has been transferred to and from these mobile phones via the operator’s network. Nokia’s dominant market share in the smartphone market entails that it holds a near 40% share with its smartphone operating systems. Gradually the company has been moving towards opening up its previously proprietary operating systems to the public in the form of Open Source Software, where everyone is able to view, share, distribute and contribute to the software code. This strategy change has been taking place over the last couple of years and continues under an overall change of direction and focus which is taking place in the company. This thesis work relates as to what exactly is the current placement of Nokia in the economic and mobile devices market and how the company has been adapting to the challenges it has been facing at the hands of both old and new rivals who have been coming with innovative ideas in order to topple over Nokia from its throne of being the biggest mobile phone maker in the world. The thesis first looks at exactly what is Open Source Software. From there it gradually moves to do comparisons between closed and Open Source Software in order to give the reader an idea as to what are the pros and cons of each. In the second half of the thesis a snapshot of the current market situation and competitors is given in order to understand the environment in which Nokia has been working and developing its strategy in. Later on the thesis goes in depth about the decisions, their triggers and their implications with regards to Nokia and the use of Open Source Software as a strategy in this changing environment.
