Androgens play important roles in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). However, measures of androgens based on mass spectrometry (MS) remain complex due to endogenous inferences of isomers or compounds with similar structures. Lack of sensitivity can also affect the accurate quantification of androgens, especially for very low level of 11-oxygenated androgens.We developed a fast and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography-differential mobility spectrometry tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-DMS/MS/MS) method for the simultaneous determination of seven androgens and 17-hydroxyprogesterone. Dispersive magnetic solid phase extraction (DMSPE) was conducted with core-shell structured nanoparticles of magnetic graphene oxide (FeLinear ranges of the eight analytes were set in terms of clinical use. Intra- and inter-run precisions were16.7% and 12.9% for all the analytes and relative error was -14.7%-13.3% and -9.3%-11.0%, respectively. Extraction recoveries were 54.0%-92.7% for different analytes. The method was validated and was applied to assay 432 clinical samples.The developed method is green, fast, sensitive and accurate for the determination of endogenous androgens. It can be readily implemented in medical laboratories to provide superior analytical performance over the traditional electrochemiluminescence immunoassay method.

Dysphagia is one of the most common complications of acute ischemic stroke, and prediction of dysphagia is crucial for post-stroke treatment. We aimed to identify predictors of dysphagia and swallowing function recovery following ischemic stroke and to investigate dysphagia-associated lesion location.We prospectively enrolled patients with acute ischemic stroke confirmed on diffusion-weighted imaging. All patients received swallowing evaluation within 48 h after admission. Follow-up oral intake ability was measured on 7 and 30 days after stroke onset. Voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping was performed to determine locations associated with dysphagia.Of 126 patients included in the final analysis, 23 patients (18.3%) were classified as initial dysphagia. The presence of facial palsy (P = 0.008) and larger white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume (P = 0.003) was associated with initial dysphagia. Initial risk of aspiration assessed by Any2 score (P = 0.001) at baseline was identified as independent predictor for dysphagia at day 7. Patients with higher Any2 score (P 0.001), aphasia (P = 0.013), and larger WMH volume (P = 0.010) were less likely to have a full swallowing function recovery at 1 month. Acute infarcts in right corona radiata and right superior longitudinal fasciculus were correlated with impaired recovery of swallowing ability at 1 month.Initial risk of aspiration was identified as risk factor for short-term and long-term dysphagia. Aphasia and larger WMH volume were revealed to be significant predictors for swallowing function recovery at 1 month. Right corona radiata was identified as an essential brain area for dysphagia.

Background: After proximal aortic surgery, total arch replacement (TAR) may again be needed because of recurrent dissection or aneurysm. This paper analyzed the relevant data of this technology with hopes of improving cognition and treatment. Methods: There were a total of 60 eligible cases of secondary TAR after proximal aortic surgery in our center from 2010 to 2020. The primary surgical procedures included aortic valve replacement (AVR), ascending aortic replacement, Bentall, hemi-arch replacement, and thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). The data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0 for Windows™ and presented as the mean ± standard deviations and direct frequencies, as appropriate. Results: The interval between two operations was 44.8±53.6 months, 24 cases (40%) underwent emergency operation, the recurrence of type A dissection included 51 cases, accounting for 85% of the causes of total arch re-replacement. In the second surgical procedures, the ascending + TAR + stented elephant trunk (SET) implantation accounted for 75.0%. The overall surgical success rate was 98.3%. Postoperative respiratory complications were the most common, including infection, pneumothorax and hemothorax in 21 cases (35.6%). The second most common complication was acute kidney injury (AKI) in six cases (10.2%), and neurological complications took place in three cases (5.1%). The 30-day mortality rate was 15.3% and the 1-, 3- and 5-year survival rates were 96.0%, 84.0%, and 76.0%, respectively. Conclusions: The recurrence of dissection is the main cause of TAR after proximal aortic surgery, followed by aneurysm and the resurgical criteria for aneurysm needs to be unified. In addition to TAR, SET also is widely used. Despite high early mortality, its long-term prognosis is acceptable.

International audience; In this work, to construct a sunlight-powered energy storage system, single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)-based symmetric micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) were fabricated by a one-step, facile spraying method. The electrodes exhibited satisfactory conductivity with a sheet resistance of 275 Ω/sq. Moreover, potassium hydroxide-poly(vinyl alcohol) (KOH-PVA) and phosphoric acid-nonionic surfactant liquid crystal (PA-NI LC) gel electrolytes were prepared and applied to design all-solid-state MSC devices. Compared to the device assembled using the SWCNTs/KOH-PVA gel electrolyte, the SWCNTs/PA-NI LC electrolyte displayed larger areal capacitance with the largest recorded value of 11.0 mF·cm–2 at a current density of 0.08 mA·cm–2 at room temperature. Additionally, the effect of temperature on the MSC device performance was assessed, and the results revealed that the device based on the SWCNTs/PA-NI LC electrolyte achieved enhanced electrochemical performance at an operating temperature of 65 °C, including a large areal capacitance of 14.7 mF·cm–2 at 0.08 mA·cm–2, a better rate performance of 88% with 12.9 mF·cm–2 at 0.4 mA·cm–2, and a higher energy density of 2.04 μWh·cm–2 at a power density of 40.64 μW·cm–2. In addition, the MSC device featured high cyclic stability under bending conditions (45 or 90°) at room temperature. Furthermore, a sunlight-powered energy storage system was fabricated, combining solar cells with the as-assembled MSC devices. Three MSCs connected in series were charged by solar cells and further acted as the energy supply for a red light-emitting diode (LED), which could be continuously operated for 2 min 30 s. All of the findings herein represent a good indication of the promising practical application potential of the as-prepared MSC devices as energy storage devices at high temperatures.

Objective We assessed the incidence of frailty and identified the independent risk factors for the occurrence of frailty in elderly patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), which aims to provide a reference for the clinical treatment of OSAS and frailty.Methods We selected 1006 elderly patients with OSAS diagnosed using polysomnographic (PSG) between January 2015 and October 2017. We divided the patients into the non-frailty group (n = 731) and the frailty group (n = 275) based on the FRAIL scale score, compared the difference between the two groups. Multivariate cox regression analysis was used to identify the factors affecting the onset of frailty among elderly patients with OSAS.Results༚ 275 patients experienced frailty, yielding an incidence of 27.34%. Multivariate cox regression analysis showed that age(HR = 1.058, 95% CI:1.043–1.074, P P = 0.010), carotid atherosclerosis (CA)(HR = 1.739, 95% CI: 1.299–2.330, P P = 0.008) are independent risk factors for frailty in elderly patients with OSAS. And platelet count(PLTC)(HR = 0.998, 95% CI: 0.996-1.000, P = 0.040), the mean arterial oxygen saturation(MSaO2)(HR = 0.950, 95% CI: 0.918–0.984, P = 0.005) are protect factors.Conclusion The incidence of frailty among elderly patients with OSAS is relatively high, and it was significantly higher in patients with severe OSAS than in those with mild or moderate OSAS. Age, constipation, CA, and RI are independent risk factors, whereas mean oxygen saturation and platelet count are protective factors for frailty in elderly patients with OSAS.

With polymerization duration and Au3+ concentration of the electrolyte regulated, a desirable nitrate-doped polypyrrole ion-selective membrane (PPy(NO3−)-ISM) and Au solid contact layer of anticipate surface morphology were obtained, and the performance of nitrate all-solid ion-selective electrodes (NS ISEs) was improved. It was found that the roughest PPy(NO3−)-ISM remarkably increases the actual contact surface area of the PPy(NO3−)-ISMs with nitrate solution, which leads to better adsorption of NO3− ions upon the PPy(NO3−)-ISMs, and produces a larger number of electrons. The most hydrophobic Au solid contact layer avoids the formation of the aqueous layer at the interface between the PPy(NO3−)-ISM and Au solid contact layer, and ensures unimpeded transporting of the produced electrons. The PPy-Au-NS ISE for polymerization duration 1800 s and at Au3+ concentration 2.5 mM of the electrolyte displays an optimal nitrate potential response, including a Nernstian slope of 54.0 mV/dec, LOD of 1.1 × 10−4 M, rapid average response time less than 1.9 s, and long-term stability of more than 5 weeks. This indicates that the PPy-Au-NS ISE is an effective working electrode for the electrochemical determination of NO3− concentration.

Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) pressure sensors based on silicon are widely used and offer the benefits of miniaturization and high precision. However, they cannot easily withstand high temperatures exceeding 150 °C because of intrinsic material limits. Herein, we proposed and executed a systematic and full-process study of SiC-based MEMS pressure sensors that operate stably from −50 to 300 °C. First, to explore the nonlinear piezoresistive effect, the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) values of 4H-SiC piezoresistors were obtained from −50 to 500 °C. A conductivity variation model based on scattering theory was established to reveal the nonlinear variation mechanism. Then, a piezoresistive pressure sensor based on 4H-SiC was designed and fabricated. The sensor shows good output sensitivity (3.38 mV/V/MPa), accuracy (0.56% FS) and low temperature coefficient of sensitivity (TCS) (−0.067% FS/°C) in the range of −50 to 300 °C. In addition, the survivability of the sensor chip in extreme environments was demonstrated by its anti-corrosion capability in H2SO4 and NaOH solutions and its radiation tolerance under 5 W X-rays. Accordingly, the sensor developed in this work has high potential to measure pressure in high-temperature and extreme environments such as are faced in geothermal energy extraction, deep well drilling, aeroengines and gas turbines.

Controversy has arisen among the overall benefit and potential risks in the use of corticosteroids for the treatment of pediatric bacterial meningitis. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to provide evidence of the use of corticosteroids in the treatment of bacterial meningitis in children.Electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and other databases) were searched from inception until March 9, 2021. Randomized clinical trials focused on corticosteroids as adjuvant therapy in pediatric bacterial meningitis were considered eligible. The primary outcomes were hearing loss and neurologic sequelae. Secondary outcomes were mean days before resolution of fever, mortality, secondary fever, and reactive arthritis. Fixed- or random-effects models were used to evaluate the association between corticosteroids therapy and outcomes by calculating risk ratios (RRs) and mean differences (MDs) with corresponding 95% CIs. Two independent reviewers completed citation screening, data extraction, and risk assessment.Twenty-nine studies with 3433 patients were included. An obvious benefit was found in the treatment of corticosteroids in hearing loss (RR = 0.62; 95% CI, 0.47-0.81; I² = 17%; P = 0.0006). No benefit was found in the rate of neurologic sequelae. However, obvious benefit was found in the low-dosage subgroup (0.6 mg/kg per day) (RR = 0.60; 95% CI, 0.47-0.77; I² = 0%; P0.0001) but not in the high-dosage subgroup (0.8 mg/kg per day). An increasing rate of secondary fever was found when using corticosteroids (RR = 1.29; 95% CI, 1.10-1.51; I² = 13%; P = 0.001). Corticosteroids could significantly decrease the mean days before resolution of fever (MD = -1.48; 95% CI, -1.79 to -1.17; I² = 84%, P0.00001). No difference was found in the rate of mortality and reactive arthritis.The findings of this study suggest that the administration of corticosteroids is associated with reduced hearing loss and neurologic sequelae especially in children using a low dose of corticosteroids. Benefits also included a reduction in the mean number of days before resolution of fever.

The transfer of large-area and clean graphene to arbitrary substrates, especially to those with raised nanostructures, represents a great challenge. Polymer-based supporting layers generally lead to organic residues, while graphene transfer using alternative supporting materials like paraffin suffers from breaking and thus limits the transfer area. We demonstrated an improved poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/paraffin double layer, enabling the large-area transfer of graphene with high cleanliness and high coverage (81%) onto gold nanopyramid (AuNP)-structured substrates. The impact of supporting layers including single PMMA or paraffin and mixed PMMA/paraffin was clarified. The properties of graphene on AuNPs were theoretically and experimentally examined in detail. Raman spectra show a polarization-dependent D peak due to the folding of large-curvature graphene. The graphene on AuNPs shows a slightly tensile strain and provides extra surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) with an enhancement factor of ∼20 times. These findings open a pathway to extend the applications of transferred graphene on raised nanostructures in many fields, such as SERS detection, catalysis, biosensors, light-emitting diodes, solar cells, and advanced transparent conductors.

Capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) have been widely utilized in applications of biomolecule monitoring, ultrasound medical diagnosis, and ultrasound therapy because of their advantages in high-level integration with integrated circuits, good impedance matching for acoustic transmission, and flexible element and array configuration compared with conventional piezoelectric ceramic transducers. Crosstalk effects on dynamics of a CMUT element, i.e. electrical, mechanical, and acoustic performance, would lead to unexpected spurious resonances. In this study, the mutual interaction from fluid and nearby cells in a CMUT element is newly investigated specially aiming to characterize their coupling effects with series and parallel parasitic effects based on a nonlinear Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM). The mutual interaction is evaluated with the electromechanical and acoustic characteristics by comparison between ECM and 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Two representative CMUT element configurations, that are the rectangular with nine cells and the hexagonal with seven cells, are analyzed with different center-to-center distance. The radii of cells are set to be lambda 8 with different edge-to-edge distances. The parasitic effects are modeled by a series parasitic factor and a parallel-capacitance parasitic ratio. The coupling influence of crosstalk and parasitic effects on the performance of a CMUT element is evaluated, such as the impedance, phase, conductance, velocity, and ultrasound pressure field. The results of ECM-FEA-based methods show good agreements, and the improved ECM can be used for co-parasitic extraction with front-end interface.

BACKGROUND: Androgen receptor variant 7 (AR-V7) detection provides important information for the clinical management of abiraterone in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). We performed a non-invasive urine-derived exosomal AR-V7 analysis of mCRPC patients. METHODS: A total of 34 mCRPC patients were recruited including 16 patients treated with abiraterone (ABI) with stable prostate-specific antigen (PSA)/radiograph response (the ABI-Sta group) and 18 were resistant to abiraterone (the ABI-Res group). Urine was collected from patients and healthy control patients for the analysis. Exosomal ribonucleic acid was isolated from urine. Urinary exosome-based androgen receptor-variant 7 was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction assay. Characteristics of patients and survival data were collected. The correlation between AR-V7 expression and the therapeutic effect/survival outcomes of abiraterone was analyzed. RESULTS: Urine is the ideal biological sample for exosome separation and AR full-length analysis. Positive urine-derived exosomal AR-V7 was detected in 32.4% (11 of 34) of the mCRPC patients’ urine samples. Positive AR-V7 was more common in the ABI-Res patients than the ABI-Sta patients (50.0% vs. 12.5%, respectively; P=0.009), and was associated with a higher PSA progression rate and poorer overall survival (OS) (P=0.0031, and P=0.0012, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The present study showed that the detection of urine-derived exosomal AR-V7 provides a sensitive and feasible clinical workflow. The predicting role of urine-derived exosomal AR-V7 in mCRPC patients should be further verified using studies with greater sample sizes.

Ultrasonic fluid bubble detection is important in industrial controls, aerospace systems and clinical medicine because it can prevent fatal mechanical failures and threats to life. However, current ultrasonic technologies for bubble detection are based on conventional bulk PZT-based transducers, which suffer from large size, high power consumption and poor integration with ICs and thus are unable to implement real-time and long-term monitoring in tight physical spaces, such as in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) systems and dialysis machines or hydraulic systems in aircraft. This work highlights the prospect of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) in the aforementioned application situations based on the mechanism of received voltage variation caused by bubble-induced acoustic energy attenuation. The corresponding theories are established and well validated using finite element simulations. The fluid bubbles inside a pipe with a diameter as small as 8 mm are successfully measured using our fabricated CMUT chips with a resonant frequency of 1.1 MHz. The received voltage variation increases significantly with increasing bubble radii in the range of 0.5–2.5 mm. Further studies show that other factors, such as bubble positions, flow velocities, fluid medium types, pipe thicknesses and diameters, have negligible effects on fluid bubble measurement, demonstrating the feasibility and robustness of the CMUT-based ultrasonic bubble detection technique.

Vancomycin is recommended for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI) and bone and joint infections (BJI). However, a detailed investigation of the pharmacokinetic profile and optimal dosing regimens of vancomycin in pediatric patients with SSTI and BJI is lacking. We successfully developed a new PopPK model of vancomycin in this population by using scavenged blood samples with the typical values for clearance (CL) of 0.14 L/h/kg and volume of distribution (V) of 0.5 L/kg. Body weight was confirmed as the significant covariate on CL and V. The optimal dosing regimens of 75 mg/kg/day and 80 mg/kg/day were recommended for this specific population.

With the increasing demand for multidirectional vibration measurements, traditional triaxial accelerometers cannot achieve vibration measurements with high sensitivity, high natural frequency, and low cross-sensitivity simultaneously. Moreover, for piezoresistive accelerometers, achieving pure axial deformation of the piezoresistive beam can greatly improve performance, but it requires the piezoresistive beam to be located in a specific position, which inevitably makes the design more complex and limits the performance improvement. Here, a monolithically integrated triaxial high-performance accelerometer with pure axial stress piezoresistive beams was designed, fabricated, and tested. By controlling synchronous displacements at both piezoresistive beam ends, the pure axial stress states of the piezoresistive beams could be easily achieved with position independence without tedious calculations. The measurement unit for the z-axis acceleration was innovatively designed as an interlocking proof mass structure to ensure a full Wheatstone bridge for sensitivity improvement. The pure axial stress state of the piezoresistive beams and low cross-sensitivity of all three units were verified by the finite element method (FEM). The triaxial accelerometer was fabricated and tested. Results showing extremely high sensitivities (x axis: 2.43 mV/g/5 V; y axis: 2.44 mv/g/5 V; z axis: 2.41 mV/g/5 V (without amplification by signal conditioning circuit)) and high natural frequencies (x/y axes: 11.4 kHz; z-axis: 13.2 kHz) were obtained. The approach of this paper makes it simple to design and obtain high-performance piezoresistive accelerometers.

Hence, the present study aims to explain the uptake and trafficking mechanism for 6-MP nanomedicines we previously constructed.Methods: 6-MP loaded poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanomedicines (6-MPNs) were prepared by the multiple emulsion method. The transcytosis mechanism of 6-MPNs was investigated in Caco-2 cells, Caco-2 monolayers, follicle associated epithelium (FAE) monolayers and rats, including transmembrane pathway, intracellular trafficking, paracellular transport and the involvement of transporter.Results: Pharmacokinetics in rats showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of 6-MP in the 6-MPNs group (147.3 ± 42.89 μg/L·h) was significantly higher than that in the 6-MP suspensions (6-MPCs) group (70.31 ± 18.24 μg/L·h). The uptake of 6-MPNs in Caco-2 cells was time-, concentration- and energy-dependent. The endocytosis of intact 6-MPNs was mediated mainly through caveolae/lipid raft, caveolin and micropinocytosis. The intracellular trafficking of 6-MPNs was affected by endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-Golgi complexes, late endosome-lysosome and microtubules. The multidrug resistance associated protein 4 (MRP4) transporter-mediated transport of free 6-MP played a vital role on the transmembrane of 6-MPNs. The trafficking of 6-MPNs from the apical (AP) side to the basolateral (BL) side in Caco-2 monolayers was obviously improved. Besides, 6-MPNs affected the distribution and expression of zona occludens-1 (ZO-1). The transport of 6-MPNs in FAE monolayers was concentration- and energy-dependent, while reaching saturation over time. 6-MPNs improved the absorption of the intestinal Peyer’s patches (PPs) in rats.Conclusion: 6-MPNs improve the oral bioavailability through multiple pathways, including active transport, paracellular transport, lymphatic delivery and MRP4 transporter. The findings of current study may shed light on the cellular uptake and transcellular trafficking mechanism of oral nanomedicines.Keywords: nanomedicines, oral bioavailability, cellular uptake, transport mechanism

Bitter tastes are innately aversive and are thought to help protect animals from consuming poisons. Children are extremely sensitive to drug tastes, and their compliance is especially poor with bitter medicine. Therefore, judging whether a drug is bitter and adopting flavor correction and taste-masking strategies are key to solving the problem of drug compliance in children. Although various machine learning models for bitterness and sweetness prediction have been reported in the literature, no learning model or bitterness database for children's medication has yet been reported. In this study, we trained four different machine learning models to predict bitterness. The goal of this study was to develop and validate a machine learning model called the "Children's Bitter Drug Prediction System" (CBDPS) based on Tkinter, which predicts the bitterness of a medicine based on its chemical structure. Users can enter the Simplified Molecular-Input Line-Entry System (SMILES) formula for a single compound or multiple compounds, and CBDPS will predict the bitterness of children's medicines made from those XGBoost-Molecular ACCess System (XgBoost-MACCS) model yielded an accuracy of 88% under cross-validation.

Heat dissipation of the fan-out (FO) package is a primary concern in advanced electronic packaging. It is a challenge to characterize the thermal performance using the actual geometry of the FO package due to the complex structure and time-consuming calculations. A simplified FO model was constructed based on the equivalent material principle and the mathematical FO model was validated by using the finite element (FE) simulation. Then FO-package thermal resistance network (FO-TRN) was established to evaluate the thermal performance, which was proven efficient and accurate by the simulation of FE models. The influence of the critical dimension (CD) of redistribution line (RDL), the thermal conductivity of molding material, and the printed circuit board (PCB) area were also investigated by using the FE simulation and FO-TRN calculation. The results demonstrated that the smaller the CD of RDLs, the greater the thermal resistance of the FO package. The high thermal conductivity of the molding compound and large PCB area is beneficial for heat dissipation. The simplified FO model and FO-TRN are practicable and effective for thermal characterization and management.

The oral microbiota is closely associated with systemic health, but few studies have investigated the oral microbiota in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This study aimed to identify the variation of oral microbiota among patients with severe OSA, and the change of oral microbiota after treatment with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).Participants were enrolled in the study from November 2020 to August 2021. Sleep parameters using full nocturnal polysomnography (PSG) were collected on healthy controls, patients with severe OSA, and patients with severe OSA after CPAP treatment for 3 months. Oral samples were also collected by rubbing disposable medical sterile swabs on the buccal mucosa. Routine blood tests and biochemical indicators were measured using the fully automated biochemical analyzer. Oral microbial composition of oral samples were determined using whole-genome metagenomic analysis in all participants. Correlations were analyzed between the oral microbiota and blood lipids.Study enrollment included 14 participants, 7 healthy controls and 7 patients with severe OSA. At the species level, the relative abundances of Prevotella, Alloprevotella, Bacteroides, Veillonella_tobetsuensis, Candidatus saccharimonas, and Leptotrichia in the groups with severe OSA were significantly lower than those in the healthy controls (P both 0.05). The abundances of Capnocytophaga, Veillonella, Bacillus_anthracis, Eikenella, and Kingella were significantly higher whereas the abundances of Gordonia and Streptococcus were significantly lower in the group with severe OSA compared to the severe OSA-CPAP group (P 0.05 for both). According to the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), 4 pathways changed in the group with severe OSA compared with healthy controls (P both 0.05). Pathways related to Novobiocin biosynthesis, 2-Oxocarboxylic acid metabolism, and Histidine metabolism were enriched in the patients with severe OSA. Nine pathways showed significant differences with regard to the relative abundances of phenylalanine metabolism; alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism; one carbon pool by folate; monobactam biosynthesis; 2-oxocarboxylic acid metabolism; arginine biosynthesis and vitamin B6 metabolism; novobiocin biosynthesis; and arginine and proline metabolism, which were significantly higher in the group with severe OSA compared to the severe OSA-CPAP group (P both 0.05). The Spearman correlation analysis between blood lipid parameters and oral microbiota components showed that negative correlations were observed between total cholesterol and Streptomyces (r = - 0.893, P = 0.007), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and Gordonia (r = - 0.821, P = 0.023); positive correlations were observed between HDL-C and Candidatus saccharimonas (r = 0.929, P = 0.003), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and Capnocytophaga (r = 0.893, P = 0.007).There was an apparent discrepancy of the oral microbiota and metabolic pathways between the group with severe OSA and controls, and CPAP significantly changed oral microbial abundance and metabolic pathways in patients with severe OSA. Correlation analysis showed that these oral bacteria were strongly correlated with the blood lipids level.

ObjectivesThis study aimed to develop a score including novel putative predictors for predicting the risk of sICH and outcomes after thrombolytic therapy with intravenous (IV) recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (r-tPA) in acute ischemic stroke patients.MethodsAll patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with IV r-tPA at three university-based hospitals in Chongqing, China, from 2014 to 2019 were retrospectively studied. Potential risk factors associated with sICH (NINDS criteria) were determined with multivariate logistic regression, and we developed our score according to the magnitude of logistic regression coefficients. The score was validated in another independent cohort. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) was used to assess the performance of the score. Calibration was evaluated using the Hosmer–Lemeshow goodness-of-fit method.ResultsThe SON2A2 score (0 to 8 points) consisted of history of smoking (no = 1, yes = 0, β = 0.81), onset-to-needle time (≥3.5 = 1,NIH Stroke Scale on admission (>10 = 2, ≤10 = 0, β = 1.22), neutrophil percentage (≥80.0% = 1, ASPECT score (≤11 = 2, >11 = 0, β = 1.30), and age (>65 years = 1, ≤65 years = 0, β = 0.89). The SON2A2 score was strongly associated with sICH (OR 1.98; 95%CI 1.675–2.34) and poor outcomes (OR 1.89; 95%CI 1.68–2.13). AUC-ROC in the derivation cohort was 0.82 (95%CI 0.77–0.86). Similar results were obtained in the validation cohort. The Hosmer–Lemeshow test revealed that predicted and observed event rates in derivation and validation cohorts were very close.ConclusionThe SON2A2 score is a simple, efficient, quick, and easy-to-perform scale for predicting the risk of sICH and outcome after intravenous r-tPA thrombolysis within 4.5 h in patients with ischemic stroke, and risk assessment using this test has the potential for early and personalized management of this disease in high-risk patients.

International audience; Herein, hybrid micro-supercapacitors (MSCs), consisting of positive CoNi layer double hydroxides (LDHs) decorated on carbon nanotubes (CoNi LDHs@CNTs) and negative CNT electrodes, were assembled by facile drop-coated and electrodeposition methods. The as-fabricated MSCs were optimized in view of electrochemical performance, and the CoNi LDHs-2@CNTs//CNT MSC exhibited a favorable performance and was thus chosen to be the candidate for MSC device package. The packaged CoNi LDHs-2@CNTs//CNT MSC demonstrated a large areal capacitance of 11.0 mF·cm–2 at a current density of 0.08 mA·cm–2, a good rate performance (56% areal capacitance retained at a higher current density of 0.4 mA·cm–2), and a favorable cycling stability and reversibility (92% of the original areal capacitance was retained after 5000 cycles). Furthermore, the MSC device recorded an energy density of 1.5 μWh·cm–2 at a power density of 42.5 μW·cm–2 and was successfully applied for the storage of energy supplied by solar cells to operate a red light-emitting diode. All these findings demonstrated the promising practical energy storage application of the as-fabricated hybrid MSC devices in the construction of sunlight-powered energy storage systems.

The traditional single degree of freedom linear piezoelectric vibration energy harvester (PVEH), such as the cantilever type, mainly works and resonates in a single direction and at a single frequency. To adapt broadband and bidirectional ambient vibration, this paper designs and compares two PVEHs of L-shaped beam and U-shaped beam through COMSOL simulation and prototype test. FEA modeling is introduced for accurate structure design with modal analysis, voltage frequency response analysis, and proof mass analysis with multiphysics electromechanical coupling simulation. Two PVEH prototypes with different gravity angles and clamping angles are tested at 0.1 g acceleration to find the optimal angle for maximum output power. The best clamping angle of L-PVEH is 135° with RMS power of 0.3 mW at 7.9 Hz, and that of U-PVEH is 45° with RMS power of 0.4 mW at 5.0 Hz. The proposed U-PVEH shows more advantages in low broadband and bidirectional vibration energy harvesting.

Semiconductor-based gas sensors are of great interest in both industrial and research settings, but poor selectivity has hindered their further development. Current efforts including doping, surface modifications and facet controlling have been proved effective. However, the “methods-selectivity” correlation is ambiguous because of uncontrollable defects and surface states during the experiments. Here, as a case study, using a DFT method, we studied the adsorption features of commonly tested gases—CH2O, H2, C2H5OH, CH3COCH3, and NH3—on facets of (Formula presented.), (Formula presented.) and (Formula presented.). The adsorption energies and charge transfers were calculated, and adsorption selectivity was analyzed. The results show (Formula presented.) has obvious CH2O adsorption selectivity; (Formula presented.) has a slight selectivity to C2H5OH and NH3; and (Formula presented.) has a slight selectivity to H2, which agrees with the experimental results. The mechanism of the selective adsorption features was studied in terms of polarity, geometric matching and electronic structure matching. The results show the adsorption selectivity is attributed to a joint effort of electronic structure matching and geometric matching: the former allows for specific gas/slab interactions, the latter decides the strength of the interactions. As the sensing mechanism is probably dominated by gas–lattice interactions, this work is envisioned to be helpful in designing new sensing material with high selectivity.

Recording moving magnetoencephalograms (MEGs ), in which a person’s head can move freely as the brain’s magnetic field is recorded, has been a key subject in recent years. Here, we describe a method based on an optically pumped atomic co-magnetometer (OPACM) for recording moving MEGs. In the OPACM, hyper-polarized nuclear spins produce a magnetic field that blocks the background fluctuation low-frequency magnetic field noise while the rapidly changing MEG signal is recorded. In this study, the magnetic field compensation was studied theoretically, and we found that the compensation is closely related to several parameters such as the electron spin magnetic field, nuclear spin magnetic field, and holding magnetic field. Furthermore, the magnetic field compensation was optimized based on a theoretical model . We also experimentally studied the magnetic field compensation and measured the responses of the OPACM to different magnetic field frequencies. We show that the OPACM clearly suppresses low-frequency (under 1 Hz) magnetic fields. However, the OPACM responses to magnetic field frequencies around the band of the MEG. A magnetic field sensitivity of 3 fT/Hz1/2 was achieved. Finally, we performed a simulation of the OPACM during utilization for moving MEG recording. For comparison, the traditional compensation system for moving MEG recording is based on a coil that is around 2 m in dimension , while our compensation system is only 2 mm in dimension .
