Objective: To analyze the effect of escitalopram oxalate (ESC) plus low-dose (LD) trazodone (TRA) on the psychological state and quality of life (QOL) of patients with treatment-refractory depression (TRD). Methods: In this retrospective study, we selected 111 TRD patients treated in the People’s Hospital of Oedos Dongsheng District between February 2019 and February 2021; 54 patients who were treated with ESC were assigned to the control group (the Con) and the remaining 57 patients treated with ESC + LD-TRA were placed into the research group (the Res). The scores of Hamilton Anxiety/Depression Scale (HAMA, HAMD), Generic Quality of Life Inventory (GQOLI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Scale (PSQI), and Treatment Emergent Signs and Symptoms (TESS), as well as the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), S-100B protein (S-100B), and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) were determined before and after intervention. Besides, the curative effect and incidence of adverse reactions were compared. Furthermore, the risk factors affecting treatment ineffectiveness in TRD patients were analyzed by the multivariate Logistic model. Results: Evident reductions were observed in the Res in terms of HAMA, HAMD and PSQI scores and S-100B and NSE levels after intervention. Eight weeks after intervention, the TESS score was significantly reduced in the Res but not significantly different from the Con; while the scores of various dimensions of the GQOIL and the BDNF level were elevated markedly in the Res that were higher than those of the Con. Moreover, the Res presented with an evidently higher overall response rate than the Con. The two groups had no statistical significance in the overall incidence of adverse reactions (fever, irritability, insomnia, nausea, etc.). Based on the multivariate Logistic model analysis, HAMA, HAMD, PSQI, TESS, BDNF, S-100B, NSE, and treatment modality were not independent risk factors for treatment ineffectiveness in TRD patients. Conclusions: ESC + LD-TRA can significantly improve the psychological status, QOL, sleep quality and neurological function of patients with TRD while improving efficacy and ensuring patient safety.

In this work, pristine Li-rich layered Li 1.2 Ni 0.2 Mn 0.6 O 2 (LNMO) oxide microspheres are synthesized by a co-precipitation method, and amorphous SiO 2 is used to modify the LNMO material via a sol-gel method. The structures and morphologies of both the pristine and SiO 2 coated materials are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The result of SEM-EDS and TEM demonstrate that the SiO 2 was successfully coated on the surface of the LNMO microspheres. The sample modified with optimized amount (0.5 wt %) of SiO 2 presents obviously improved initial coulombic efficiency, cyclic capacity, high rate performance. It can deliver high discharge capacity of 100.0 mA h g −1 at 10C after 50 cycles at 1C which is much higher than the pristine material. By the comparison of cyclic performance in electrolytes containing with 1000 and 2000 ppm water respectively, SiO 2 coating layer shows a superior absorption of hydrofluoric acid (HF). The SiO 2 coated samples also present superior thermal stability proved by cycling at 1 C and 60 °C. The analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) demonstrate that the SiO 2 coating layer can protect the Li-rich cathodes by decreasing the side reactions of LNMO with the electrolyte, increasing lithium ion diffusion coefficients and lower the charge transfer resistance.

An experimental ultra wideband ground penetrating radar based on Golay complementary sequences is proposed to locate underground pipes. Golay complementary sequences with the code length of 1024 and frequency of 1 GHz are used as the probe signals. Two-dimensional image of the buried pipes is achieved by correlation method and back projection algorithm. The experimental results show that both the plastic pipe and metallic pipe can be located with a range resolution of 10 cm. Furthermore, as the Golay complementary sequences are a pair of complementary sequences, the sum of their correlation function yields twice the value of the peak at the target position and zero elsewhere. Thus, compared with the stepped frequency signal radar or chaotic signal radar, the Golay-based radar can significantly improve the signal noise ratio and has capability of deep detection.

Although our most recent studies have identified Isorhapontigenin (ISO), a novel derivative of stilbene that isolated from a Chinese herb Gnetum cleistostachyum, for its inhibition of human bladder cancer growth, nothing is known whether ISO possesses an inhibitory effect on bladder cancer invasion. Thus, we addressed this important question in current study and discovered that ISO treatment could inhibit mouse-invasive bladder cancer development following bladder carcinogen N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN) exposure in vivo We also found that ISO suppressed human bladder cancer cell invasion accompanied by upregulation of the forkhead box class O 1 (FOXO1) mRNA transcription in vitro Accordingly, FOXO1 was profoundly downregulated in human bladder cancer tissues and was negatively correlated with bladder cancer invasion. Forced expression of FOXO1 specifically suppressed high-grade human bladder cancer cell invasion, whereas knockdown of FOXO1 promoted noninvasive bladder cancer cells becoming invasive bladder cancer cells. Moreover, knockout of FOXO1 significantly increased bladder cancer cell invasion and abolished the ISO inhibition of invasion in human bladder cancer cells. Further studies showed that the inhibition of Signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (STAT1) phosphorylation at Tyr701 was crucial for ISO upregulation of FOXO1 transcription. Furthermore, this study revealed that metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) was a FOXO1 downstream effector, which was also supported by data obtained from mouse model of ISO inhibition BBN-induced mouse-invasive bladder cancer formation. These findings not only provide a novel insight into the understanding of mechanism of bladder cancer's propensity to invasion, but also identify a new role and mechanisms underlying the natural compound ISO that specifically suppresses such bladder cancer invasion through targeting the STAT1-FOXO1-MMP-2 axis. The proliferation, migration, and adhesion of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and their interactions with extracellular matrix are key features of atherosclerosis and restenosis. Recently, there has been evidence that magnetic fields exert multiple effects on the biological performance of cells and may aid in the treatment of vascular disease. However, the effect of a static magnetic field (SMF) on human VSMCs still remains unknown. In this study, we aimed to determine the effects of low strength SMF on human VSMCs in an in vitro restenosis model. A SMF was established using neodymium-yttrium-iron permanent magnet. Human umbilical artery smooth muscle cells (hUASMCs) were isolated and seeded to a fibronectin-coated plate to form an in vitro restenosis model and then exposed to a vertically oriented field of 5 militesla (mT). MTT, transwell, and adhesion assays were used to demonstrate that the proliferation, migration, and adhesion potential of hUASMCs were significantly decreased after exposure to 5 mT SMF for 48 h compared with a non-treated group. Meanwhile, confocal microscopy analysis was used to demonstrate that integrin β(1) clustering was inhibited by exposure to 5 mT SMF. Furthermore, the phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) was markedly inhibited, and the upregulated cytosolic free calcium had been reversed (p 0.05). However, the biological effects of low strength SMF on hUASMCs could be blocked by the administration of GRGDSP-the blockade of integrins. In conclusion, a low strength SMF can influence the proliferation, migration, and adhesion of VSMCs by inhibiting the clustering of integrin β1, decreasing cytosolic free calcium concentration, and inactivating FAK. With further validation, SMFs may aid in attenuating abnormal VSMCs biological performance and has potential to block atherogenesis and prevent restenosis.
