Abstract

We performed infrared optical characterization of polycrystalline MoO3 films deposited by pulsed laser deposition on fused silica substrates. Several samples have been fabricated using different parameters such as temperature and oxygen pressure. Our analysis shows that under appropriate fabrication conditions it is possible to obtain a dominant α-phase film, with a well-defined, normal to surface (z-axis) orientation. These results are confirmed by reflection spectra performed at 45° incidence angle revealing a strong modulation of the sharp z-phonon Reststrahlen band as a function of the incident field linear polarization.

Abstract

We studied a ZnSe/MgF/sub 2/ multilayer in order to modulate its optical reflectance at a fixed wavelength, 628 nm. An electrically induced temperature increase is responsible for changes in the refractive index of the layers. As a result the reflected signal is decreased.

Abstract

We studied the infrared properties randomly oriented silver nanowires films deposited onto different substrates. The investigated nanowires have cross-sectional diameters included between few to hundreds nanometers, while their lengths span from some microns to some tenths microns. Several films of silver nanowires were realized and the infrared emission of the obtained films was characterized in the long infrared range, i.e. 8-12 microns, by observing their temperature evolution under heating regime (maximum applied temperature ~90°) with a focal plane array (FPA) infrared camera. Under heating conditions, the apparent temperature of the silver nanowires films qualitatively follows the trend of the corresponding heating source temperature, while the absolute value keeps always somewhat lower. The experimental results show that the choice of metal filling factor may affect the resulting infrared emission and suggest that these coatings are suitable for infrared signature reduction applications.

Abstract

International audience; A measurable magnetic (nonlocal) contribution to the second harmonic generation (SHG) of nonmagnetic materi- als is an intriguing issue related to chiral materials, such as biomolecules. Here we report the detection of an intensity-dependent optically induced magnetization of a chiral bacteriorhodopsin film under femtosecond pulse excitation (830 nm) and far from the material's resonance. The analysis of the pump intensity-dependent noncol- linear SHG signal, by means of the polarization map of normalized Stokes parameters, allows one to improve the detection of the nonlinear optical magnetization M 2ω contribution to the SHG signal.

Abstract

Vertically coupled Si3N4/SiO2 passive microring resonators having different lateral distance from the straight forward waveguide have been investigated. The transmitted and dropped power of the devices was measured. Specifically, by means of input and output polarizers, the polarization conversion between TE and TM mode has been investigated. Main cavity parameters, i.e. finesse and free spectral range have been reconstructed from experimental data. Finally, the results on TE/TM polarization conversion is briefly explained.
