Natalija Krajnc Department of Child, Adolescent and Developmental Neurology, University Children’s Hospital, Ljubljana, Slovenia Abstract: Rett syndrome (RTT) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that appears in infancy with regression of acquired motor skills, loss of purposeful activity, hand stereotypies, loss of acquired spoken language, and seizures. Epilepsy affects the majority of patients in a specific clinical stage of the disease and is drug resistant in approximately one-third of cases. The association of epilepsy and even drug-resistant epilepsy has been reported in certain genotypes of the methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 mutation, which is present in a majority of patients with classical RTT. The evolution of electroencephalographic abnormalities accompanying the clinical development of the syndrome is well described, but much less is known about the seizure semiology and the effectiveness of specific antiepileptic drugs. The aim of this review is to present the clinical and electrophysiological aspects of epilepsy in RTT and the current treatment approach. Keywords: Rett syndrome, epilepsy, treatment

Many Southeast European countries have high biomass potentials, but they are often not or only ineffi-ciently used for local energy supply and regional economic development. The creation of bioenergy villages can facil-itate the promotion of local biomass production and use. A bioenergy village is a village, municipality, settlement or community or a part of it which produces and uses most of its energy demand from local biomass sources as well as from other renewable energy sources. The objective of the EU Horizon 2020 funded project BioVill is to support the development of regional bioenergy concepts and the establishment of bioenergy villages in Croatia, Macedonia, Ro-mania, Serbia and Slovenia. In these countries, suitable biomass value chains are identified, and the market uptake of bioenergy technologies is supported, taking local and regional needs into consideration. Important is the local sourcing of biomass in order to add value for the local and regional economy. A key focus of the BioVill project is on the support of seven selected target villages on their way to become bioenergy villages. Thereby, experiences gained in Austria, Germany and other European countries are transferred to the South-Eastern European partners. After two years of BioVill project implementation, concrete bioenergy projects are proposed in the target villages and their technical and economical feasibility was assessed. A survey of cable logging contracts was conducted in 5 of the 8 Alpine countries, namely: France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland. The goals of the survey were to set a general reference for cable logging rates, to identify eventual differences between countries and to determine the effect of technical work parameters (i.e. piece size, removal per hectare, line length) on actual contract rates. With a total sample size of 566 units, the mean removal and rate were 165 m3 ha-1 and 42.9 EUR m-3, respectively. Both removal per hectare and contract logging rates varied considerably and the study found significant differences between countries. Switzerland stood out from the group with the highest removal (345 m3 ha-1), but also the highest contract rate (79.5 EUR m-3). Removal per hectare was lowest in Italy with just 58.3 m3 ha-1, and logging rate lowest in Slovenia at 29.3 EUR m-3. Logging rates were highly correlated with the average labour rate of each country. Technical factors such as tree size, line length and tract size explained about 40% of the variability in logging rates. Therefore, 60% of the variability is explained by other technical factors not included in our data and by non-technical factors, such as local market dynamics.

This will be achieved by identi-fying suitable biomass value chains according to local and regional needs and transferring existing experiences in Aus-tria, Germany and other European countries to the South-Eastern European partners. Thereby the market uptake of domestic bioenergy supply chains will be increased and the role of locally produced biomass as a main source of energy supply and added value for the local and regional economy will be strengthened. The present paper introduces the project´s step-wise approach and presents its intermediate results and achievements, followed by a section addressing the transfer process, a core element of the project.

A survey of various logistical biomass value chains in various European projects was made. A biomass value chain connects the available biomass types with the final conversion process through various logistical components. Based on the survey of biomass value chains the most important logistical concepts were identified. A logistical concept is broader and more general than a specific biomass value chain. A chosen logistical concept always still needs to be further specified and translated in order to obtain a specific biomass value chain (specify all the components). Often several possible biomass value chains fit within that general logistical concept. NEWFOR (NEW technologies for a better mountain FORest timber mobilization) is a research project funded by the alpine space programme. It brings together 14 institutes of the 6 countries of the alpine space with the aim of improving forest timber evaluation and mobilisation. The project considers the whole wood supply chain, from forests to wood yards, with a particular emphasis on new remote sensing technologies and geographical information systems. The report presents the major findings of the project and outlines some key issues for a better mobilisation of alpine timber ressoures.

In view of an ecological and environmentally use of the biomass drew from forest operations, it is utterly important to well know the forest ecosystems characterizing the regional territory and in particular the pilot area of the Proforbiomed project. In this way it was possible to acquire specific information on the forest types in the area, its ecological and structural characteristics and the evolutionary dynamics. The information gathered have been fundamental in order to detect the most suitable forest management policies and interventions, able to put together the use of biomass and an increased of forest ecosystems stability.The studies carried out in the pilot area of the Proforbiomed project can be considered representative of a fair part of the regional territory what concerns the social, economic and environmental context. This work has the purpose of providing an overview and a short description of the consistency of forests potentially available for biomass production within the pilot area of the Proforbiomed project in Sicily.
