Coastal morphology is key to modern understanding of threats and nature risks to coastal communities. A quarter of the world’s beaches are eroding due to natural or man-made activities. Dynamics of coastal morphology occurs in space and time (4D), making it difficult to measure using standard survey approaches. We introduce a technique that uses multispectral satellite data and satellite lidar to provide frequent spatial observations of coastal zones. Thanks to international cooperation through the Horizon 2020 program, the analytical processes are based on a highly automatic inversion of the radiative transfer equation (RTE), which enables to model shallow water depth without the access to local survey data. The workflow is installed on AWS cloud environment with directly linked to the satellite data archive. Leveraging these Copernicus satellite data, the solution can generate high frequent and high-resolution shallow water bathymetric data continuously and for the past decade. In combination with land topographic models derived from stereo satellite imagery and verification with bathy-topo data from a space-born green lidar system (IceSat-2 Atlas), this allows for verification and control of vertical accuracies.This solution allows for a rapid and scalable approach to generate shallow water bathymetric and topographic surfaces from small sites to a national level. It serves as a crucial dataset to manage coastal resilience strategies and reduce disaster risk. This will be demonstrated in pilot sites from the southern Baltic to the Caribbean where we can quantify and visualise the changes of the coastal morphology in 4D., The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

Risk mitigation measures are a key component in designing conditions of use of pesticides in crop protection. A 2-step workshop was organized under the auspices of SETAC and the European Commission and gathered risk assessors and risk managers of 21 European countries, industry, academia and agronomical advisors/extension services, in order to provide European regulatory authorities with a toolbox of risk mitigation measures designed to reduce environmental risks of pesticides used in agriculture, and thus contribute to a better harmonization within Europe in the area. The workshop gathered an inventory of the risk mitigation tools for pesticides being implemented or in development in European countries. The inventory was discussed in order to identify the most promising tools for a harmonized toolbox in the European area. The discussions concerned the level of confidence in the technical data on which the tools identified rely, possible regulatory hurdles, expectations as regards the implementation of these tools by farmers and links with risk assessment. Finally, this workshop was a first step towards a network gathering all stakeholders, i.e. experts from national authorities, research sector, industry and farmers, to share information and further develop this toolbox. This paper presents an outline of the content of the toolbox with an emphasis on spray drift reducing techniques, in line with the discussions ongoing in the SPISE workshop.

A D-polyhedron is a polyhedron $P$ such that if $x,y$ are in $P$ then so are their componentwise max and min. In other words, the point set of a D-polyhedron forms a distributive lattice with the dominance order. We provide a full characterization of the bounding hyperplanes of D-polyhedra. Aside from being a nice combination of geometric and order theoretic concepts, D-polyhedra are a unifying generalization of several distributive lattices which arise from graphs. In fact every D-polyhedron corresponds to a directed graph with arc-parameters, such that every point in the polyhedron corresponds to a vertex potential on the graph. Alternatively, an edge-based description of the point set can be given. The objects in this model are dual to generalized flows, i.e., dual to flows with gains and losses. These models can be specialized to yield some cases of distributive lattices that have been studied previously. Particular specializations are: lattices of flows of planar digraphs (Khuller, Naor and Klein), of $\alpha$-orientations of planar graphs (Felsner), of c-orientations (Propp) and of $\Delta$-bonds of digraphs (Felsner and Knauer). We provide a characterization of upper locally distributive lattices (ULD-lattices) in terms of edge colorings of their cover graphs. In many instances where a set of combinatorial objects carries the order structure of a lattice this characterization yields a slick proof of distributivity or UL-distributivity. This is exemplified by proving a distributive lattice structure on Delta-bonds with invariant circular flow-difference. This instance generalizes several previously studied lattice structures, in particular, c-orientations (Propp), alpha-orientations of planar graphs (Felsner, resp. de Mendez) and planar flows (Khuller, Naor and Klein).
