Abstract

In present article we present results of detailed study of the possibility adapting AgGaGe3Se8 single crystal properties to desired requirements by investigate the influence of the different cationic substitution on the physical properties: optical, nonlinear optical (NLO) - Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) and temperature dependent photoconductivity. We report results obtained for modified crystals based on AgGaGe₃Se₈ by cationic substitution of the elements belong to first - (Ag-Cu), third (Ga-In), and fourth (Ge-Sn) groups of the periodic system. For the convincing observation the effects of various impurities and compare results with obtained for virgin AgGaGe₃Se₈ crystal was conducted replacing at 5 mol. % one element by another.

Abstract

International audience; In the present paper a new empirical model is proposed to describe and predict the lattice constants for a series of cubic crystals, all of which have the AXY composition (A = K, Cs, Rb, Tl; X = tetravalent cation, Y = F, Cl, Br, I). The model is based on a thorough analysis of structural properties of 85 representative crystals from this group. It was shown that the lattice constant is a linear function of the ionic radii and electronegativity of the constituting ions. A simple empirical equation was obtained as a result of the performed analysis. It gives very good agreement between the experimental and modeled values of the lattice parameters, with an average error not exceeding 1.05 %. The developed approach can be efficiently used for a simple, fast and reliable prediction of lattice constants and interionic distances in isostructural materials having a similar composition.

Abstract

International audience; We study the smectic director structure of the rodlike liquid crystal 4-n-dodecyl-4cyanobiphenyl 12CB confined in cylindrical cavities of 200 nm diameter in porous alumina templates by means of combined broadband dielectric spectroscopy, optical birefringence, and neutron scattering measurements. We show that the collective molecular orientation differs between entering the smectic A phase upon cooling from the isotropic state and entering the same phase upon heating while melting the confined crystal. We discuss this collective molecular realignment in terms of a competition between weak planar anchoring at the p-Al2O3 /12CB interface and a preferred texture typical of the crystallization of rodlike molecules in nanochannels Bridgman growth.

Abstract

International audience; Electro-optic (EO) phenomena are measured in electrically poled films (0.5 μm) based on large-sized SiC nanocrystallites (nc-SiC) as chromophores and polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) as host matrices. Both linear electro-optic (LEO) and quadratic coefficients are obtained, and, for nc-SiC contents ranging from 1% to 3% by weight units, the largest achieved effective LEO coefficient is found close to 26 pm/V at λ = 0.633 μm. Comparison with the electrically active host matrix of poly(vinyl-carbazole) (PVK) shows that the polarization at the nc-SiC boundaries with the polymer play a crucial role on the EO phenomena. Moreover, the relative interface area between the polymer and the SiC nanocrystallites contributes critically to the observed electro-optic effects.
