PurposeThis study aims to examine the literature on consumer financial capability. By analyzing the research trends, theories, definitions and themes, the literature on financial capability is synthesized, and agenda for future research is suggested. A framework is presented that portrays the antecedents as well as the outcomes of financial capability and their interlinkages.Design/methodology/approachFollowing a systematic approach, the review is based on 215 articles published during January 2007 and–March 2022, retrieved from Scopus. It presents the definitions and theories of financial capability, publication trends, influential articles, prominent authors, prolific journals and countries publishing on financial capability. Using bibliographic coupling, the intellectual structure of the topic is explored, along with offering a framework through content analysis.FindingsThe bibliographic coupling analysis identifies four major clusters of research themes and capability theory appeared to be the most prominent theory. The synthesis draws upon five conceptual definitions of financial capability. Based on the discussion, in this review, financial capability is defined as an individual ability to apply appropriate financial knowledge, perform desirable financial behaviors and take available financial opportunities for achieving financial well-being. A conceptual framework delineates the synthesized literature and propositions based on this framework and relevant research are proposed. Finally, directions for future research are discussed.Originality/valueThis paper is an attempt to offer a comprehensive synthesis of the scholarship on financial capability and its conceptualization. It further proposes an extensive future research agenda. The study has implications for financial services providers relating to retail bank marketing.

Water reuse is one of the most sustainable water augmentation option to cope up with the high water demands of the developing communities globally. It has several additional benefits such as nutrient recovery, economic gains and environmental benefits. Even though, water reuse is economical and sustainable, its practical implementation at a wide scale has many technical, social, institutional and regulatory challenges, especially in developing countries like India. In India, there is a scarcity of stringent national regulations and guidelines for the safe implementation of wastewater reuse systems. In this study, the assessment of the existing regulatory framework for treated wastewater reuse is done to understand the need of current and future policy interventions and recommendations are made based on expert consultation. The legal assessment highlights the importance of consultation, communication and education in the development of an effective regulatory structure. The analysis of the expert reviews suggests inclusion of policy directives based on funding sources and technical infrastructure to support the growth of water reuse in India.

PurposeThe intent of this study is to aggregate, in a measurable form, the results of previous studies on the association between personal financial management behavior (PFMB) and six psychological factors, which are financial attitude, financial self-efficacy, self-control, materialism, internal locus of control (LOC), and external LOC.Design/methodology/approachA stack of 32 research documents that investigated 52 relationships between various psychological variables and PFMB was analyzed using the meta-analysis technique. Along with the overall meta-analysis, a comprehensive subgroup analysis was also undertaken counseled to determine whether the results contrast on account of the age group of the sample and the economy of the country to which the sample belongs.FindingsThe overall meta-analysis findings do not support the association between PFMB and the various explanatory variables except for the significant positive association with self-control. In contrast, a subgroup study revealed that self-control (positively) and materialism (negatively) were found to be significantly associated with PFMB among adults. The association between internal LOC and PFMB is significant and positive among the young. Interestingly, self-control appeared to be significantly and positively associated with PFMB in developed countries. In developing countries, financial attitude, financial self-efficacy and internal LOC are significantly and positively associated with PFMB.Originality/valueDistinct from other review papers, this meta-analysis quantitatively cumulates and reconciles the conflicting findings on the linkage between psychological predictors and PFMB. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first meta-analysis on the topic.

In 1961, the Journal of Religion and Health (JORH) commenced publishing articles that examined modern religious and spiritual philosophy in relation to psychology and health. The year 2021 marked the 60th anniversary of the founding of JORH. This research paper retrospectively analyses the journal's content. It provides insight into JORH's publication trends, citation records, prominent themes, authors' collaboration and its aggregate contribution to the field of religion and health. Over time, the number of publications, citations and downloads of JORH articles have substantially increased, as has the journals prominence and diverse contributions to the study of religion, spirituality and health.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the current state of research on Personal Financial Management Behavior (PFMB), with a prime focus on its antecedents and the consequences. By analyzing the research trends, methods, determinants and outcomes, the PFMB literature is synthesized, and agenda for future research is suggested. A framework is presented that portrays PFMB's antecedents and consequences and further specification of the mediation and moderation linkages.Design/methodology/approachThe review is based on 160 articles published during 1970–2020. It follows a systematic approach and presents the definitions and theories of PFMB, publication trends based on time, region, sample population, research designs, data collection and analysis techniques, along with antecedents and outcomes through content analysis.FindingsThe synthesis draws upon various factors affecting PFMB, such as demographics, socio-economic, psychological, social, cultural, financial experience, financial literacy (FL) and technological factors. The prominent outcomes of PFMB include financial satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, quality of life, financial success, happiness, financial vulnerability/resilience and financial well-being. The future research agenda sums up the recommendations in the form of research questions on variables and their linkages, followed by methodological advancements.Originality/valueThis paper covers the scholarly work done in this area in the past 51 years. To the best of authors' knowledge, this is the first attempt to offer a most comprehensive and collective scholarship of this subject. It further gives an extensive future research agenda.

The growing interest in alternative water supplies is impelling societies, government bodies and industries throughout the world to conduct research and discuss the feasibility of reuse of treated wastewater. Treated wastewater has emerged as an affordable source of water supply worldwide. Designing of wastewater reuse systems involves consideration of multiple criteria such as technical, social, economic, environmental, legal as well as multiple stakeholders. The objective of the present study is to develop a multi‐criteria decision‐making (MCDM) approach using Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) for the selection of significant criteria and sub‐criteria governing the planning and execution of water reuse systems considering the local conditions and end users. The weightage of the individual parameters is obtained. The results indicate that the weightage of different criteria varies for different stakeholders. The analysis may help in developing a holistic approach for reuse of treated wastewater inducing improved decision‐making at authoritative levels.

Water availability is facing crisis throughout the world because of various factors viz., population growth, climate change, and rapid urbanization, leading to the requirement of treated wastewater as an additional source of water supply. However, the actual amount of wastewater that may be reused depends on many factors such as water demand, availability, cost and social acceptability, etc. In this study, a linear programming model has been developed to identify the amount of treated wastewater that may be used for various applications subject to water availability and demand constraints, taking Delhi city as a case study. The results suggest that wastewater reuse has the maximum potential in agriculture and landscape irrigation use followed by domestic and industrial applications. The framework developed in the study provides useful information for integrated planning and management of the reuse of wastewater in order to augment the existing water supply. It may be modified and used for the estimation of wastewater reuse potential in other areas with similar conditions.

Behavioral science has made a considerable contribution to finance. To gain an understanding of the scientific contributions emerging from all fields of finance with a behavioral perspective, this paper reviews the content of the major journal dedicated to behavioral finance, the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance (JBEF), since its foundation 8 years ago. For this purpose, we employ bibliometrics and content analysis to shed light on the publication trends and intellectual structure of the JBEF, obtaining numerous intriguing findings. First, the JBEF is still a young journal, and its numbers of publications and citations have grown significantly since its inception. Second, though there are contributions from all parts of the world, the United States is acknowledged as contributing the most to the JBEF. Diverse authors have contributed to the journal, but those affiliated with the University of Innsbruck and Macquarie University lead the list. Third, most of the studies have used the theoretical underpinnings of behavioral theory and prospect theory. Methodologically, most of the studies are empirical and primarily based on quantitative research designs, archival data and regression analysis. Fourth, the JBEF’s contributions concern eight intellectual clusters—namely personal characteristics and national cultures; psychological factors, financial literacy and robo-advising; investor sentiment and stock market volatility; asset market experiments; overconfidence and the disposition effects in the stock market; externalities (COVID-19) and financial markets; socially responsible investing; and herding behavior in financial markets. Finally, “behavioral finance” is the most prominently used author keyword in the JBEF’s publications, followed by “financial literacy”. All in all, these findings should offer readers a retrospection of scholarly contributions from the JBEF.

The availability of freshwater is evolving as a serious threat to the living community throughout the world due to rapid industrialization, urbanization, and rising population. The depletion of groundwater due to excessive water withdrawal and reduced recharge and pollution of the water sources also contributes to this water crisis. The rising pressure on water supplies encourages the use of treated wastewater as an alternative resource. In this study, a global outlook of the developments in water reuse is presented with a focus on the Indian scenario. It can be observed that though there is a scope for water reuse in India owing to the generation of a high volume of wastewater, it is often squandered due to limited research and guidance, and unreliable institutional framework. It is suggested that the reuse of wastewater requires the development of an integrated approach considering all the factors related to technical feasibility, financial viability, and social acceptance together with a guiding management structure that may augment the existing water supplies. In India, one of the major sources of water is the groundwater. Currently, its quality is being degraded due to many reasons such as intrusion of waste from various chemical factories and other industries. The objective of the study was to analyze the groundwater quality in the vicinity of the Kala Sanghian drain, Jalandhar. The drain carries waste from various industries in Jalandhar and is unlined which might affect the quality of the nearby groundwater. The physiochemical and heavy analysis was carried out on 30 samples collected from different locations of varying depths along the drain. It was observed that the values for some of the parameters are exceeding the permissible limit. The reason for dwindling quality of water in the area may be due to the discharge of the industrial waste into the Kala Sanghian drain. Hence, quick and reliable monitoring measures are essential for safeguarding the water quality. Geographic Information System was used to map the parameters values in terms of WQI in spatial domain which would help in better visualization of the problem and improved decision making.

We provide a comprehensive analysis of the International Review of Financial Analysis (IRFA) between 1992 and 2020 using bibliometrics, regression analysis, and structural topic modeling (STM). Using bibliometric analysis, we find that IRFA's publications and their citations have grown considerably over the years. IRFA also experienced substantial growth in its authors' collaboration network. U.K. and U.S. authors are the journal's most frequent contributors. We use regression analysis to identify article age, a special issue, lead article, European author affiliation, title length and novelty, and the number of authors, figures, keywords, and references as critical predictors of IRFA's citations. Finally, using STM, we find that IRFA's conceptual structure reflects 12 major topics with corporate ownership and governance, and stock market volatility and spillover as the most prominent. The study contributes to the editorial board and other IRFA stakeholders as well as scholars alike. Awareness of IRFA's trends can be pivotal in understanding the patterns in the overall finance domain.

The rising water scarcity throughout the world has stimulated the use of treated wastewater as an alternative option. Wastewater is a valuable resource that can be used beneficially to meet the water supply-demand gaps. In India, water and wastewater sector, especially wastewater reuse, has recently started getting attention due to growing water problems specially in water scarce cities. This chapter presents an overview of wastewater reclamation and reuse in India with the focus on its rationale, current practices and challenges, potential and future scope. Urban local bodies and municipalities have implemented reclaimed water reuse projects in many water sensitive cities in the country. However, the challenges such as lack of planning and feasibility studies, incentives, social acceptance, regulatory guidelines and poor institutional framework have made it difficult to sustain such projects. There is a large potential for treated wastewater reuse in the country owing to high quantities of wastewater. Studies show that if 80% of urban wastewater could be treated by 2030, there would be an increase of 400% in the volume of available wastewater to reclaim and directly reuse. In view of the rising opportunities, the reuse in the industrial and agricultural sectors has grown in the past decades but in the municipal sector, it is still evolving. Many legal initiatives have been taken by the central and state governments over the past few years. Research shows that to establish widespread and successful reclaimed water reuse, an integrated water resources planning and management approach is imperative.

Air pollution is one of the foremost and grave public health and environmental anxiety in most of evolving countries. Objectives: The objective of this paper is to provide insight details about current situation of air quality across various cities present in India, along with countless origins and effects of air pollution. An attempt is made to make people aware about various types of gases and particulate matter present in air highlighting their effects on environment along with the various ways of overcoming this situation. Methods: The National Air Quality Index (NAQI) ensures comparison amongst various cities so that new measures can be formulated in order to decrease the quantity of particulate matter present in air. In this paper concentration of various pollutants along with various harmful gases for various cities of India are analyzed based on past NAQI data thereby highlighting those areas which are under extensive menace of pollution. Findings: It has been perceived from past few years that the rate at which Urban Air Pollution across India has grown is alarming due to severe unsafe web of particulate matter (PM) and harmful gases present in air that living organism’s breath. Levels of particulate matter are extremely higher in all cities of India. Only few cities are such that can be emphasized where Air Quality Monitoring (AQM) has started due to which they show some enhancement in quality of air but mostly affected areas are small and medium sized towns which suffer from phenomenal spurt in pollution in very critical manner. Due to increase in immense number of vehicles, industries and manufacturing units has resulted in excess assembly of pollutants in air making air pollution as a state of national emergency across various cities around the country.

Background: One of the basic environmental problems in Srinagar city is the Transport and Disposal of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Management of solid waste eradicates the impacts on environment and human health supporting the economic development as well. Objectives: The objective of the current study is to manage the solid waste produced in Srinagar city, identify zone generating the maximum amount of solid waste and suggest the proper disposal/management technique for the waste. Methods/Analysis: In the present study, the seasonal analysis of the MSW was done and tests were performed to find out the physical and chemical characteristics of waste. Samples were collected from the area generating maximum amount of waste and the composition of waste was determined. Findings: The analysis shows that MSW having a generation rate of 279.76 g/capita/day, has a moisture content of 53.42%, density of about 110.37 kg/m3, energy content of 26289 KJ/KG and contains 85.01% of organics. Landfilling would be an efficient method of solid waste disposal as a sanitary landfill provides disposal facility for about 20-30 years.

Background: Anthropogenic activities are major source of water pollution, particularly, because of haphazard dumping of heavy metals which get accumulated through trophic levels posing a severe risk to the surroundings. The removal of heavy metals from wastewater is, thus, very significant. Objective: The objective of the present study is to use rice husk, tea waste and orange peel for removal of Pb (II) ions by adsorption and to develop equilibrium and kinetic studies data for the same. Method: The batch process of adsorption was used and the concentration of lead adsorbed was measured titrimetrically. Findings: The maximum removal efficiency has been observed as 88% in tea waste and 80% in rice husk and orange peel. The equilibrium data obtained at optimized conditions for all the metal ions studied has been subjected to the isotherm models used for adsorption, namely, Langmuir and Freundlich. Further, to examine the kinetics for adsorption of Pb (II) ions on the adsorbents under study, pseudo first order and second order equations have been analysed. Thus, it was concluded that the utilization of low cost waste materials for treating wastewater using adsorption is effective, ecofriendly, locally available causing no pollution along with solving the problem of waste disposal.

Gene therapy offers the potential to deliver genetic material inside the cells for correcting a disease phenotype. Various techniques for the transgene delivery have been developed, among which cationic liposome mediated delivery is widely acceptable. DC-Chol/DOPE cationic liposomes, synthesized in our laboratory, have several alluring features such as low toxicity, non-immunogenicity, ease of utilization and stability. These liposomes have been successfully used as a vector in clinical trials for treating melanoma and cystic fibrosis. Only a small portion of the DNA-liposome complex taken up by the cell is eventually available for gene expression in the nucleus.
