Continuing the research initiated in \cite{Fr-Ki2}, we study the existence of solutions and their regularity for the cohomological equations $X u=f$ for locally Hamiltonian flows (determined by the vector field $X$) on a compact surface $M$ of genus $g\geq 1$. We move beyond the case studied so far by Forni in \cite{Fo1,Fo3}, when the flow is minimal over the entire surface and the function $f$ satisfies some Sobolev regularity conditions. We deal with the flow restricted to any its minimal component and any smooth function $f$ whenever the flow satisfies the Full Filtration Diophantine Condition (FFDC) (this is a full measure condition). The main goal of this article is to quantify optimal regularity of solutions. For this purpose we construct a family of invariant distributions $\mathfrak{F}_{\bar t}$, $\bar{t}\in\mathscr{TF}^*$ that play the roles of the Forni's invariant distributions introduced in \cite{Fo1,Fo3} by using the language of translation surfaces. The distributions $\mathfrak{F}_{\bar t}$ are global in nature (as emphasized in the title of the article), unlike the distributions $\mathfrak{d}^k_{\sigma,j}$, $(\sigma,k,j)\in\mathscr{TD}$ and $\mathfrak{C}^k_{\sigma,l}$, $(\sigma,k,l)\in\mathscr{TC}$ introduced in \cite{Fr-Ki2}, which are defined locally. All three families are used to determine the optimal regularity of the solutions for the cohomological equation, see Theorem 1.1 and 1.2. Gender bias is a significant issue in machine translation, leading to ongoing research efforts in developing bias mitigation techniques. However, most works focus on debiasing of bilingual models without consideration for multilingual systems. In this paper, we specifically target the unambiguous gender bias issue of multilingual machine translation models and propose a new mitigation method based on a novel perspective on the problem. We hypothesize that the gender bias in unambiguous settings is due to the lack of gender information encoded into the non-explicit gender words and devise a scheme to encode correct gender information into their latent embeddings. Specifically, we employ Gender-Aware Contrastive Learning, GACL, based on gender pseudo-labels to encode gender information on the encoder embeddings. Our method is target-language-agnostic and applicable to already trained multilingual machine translation models through post-fine-tuning. Through multilingual evaluation, we show that our approach improves gender accuracy by a wide margin without hampering translation performance. We also observe that incorporated gender information transfers and benefits other target languages regarding gender accuracy. Finally, we demonstrate that our method is applicable and beneficial to models of various sizes.

We propose two novel methods for computing the superconformal index of 5d superconformal field theories that cannot be described by conventional Lagrangian descriptions under mass deformations. The first approach involves the use of Higgs branch flows from UV Lagrangian theories, guided by transitions in 5-brane webs in Type IIB string theory. The second method employs the relationship between O$7^+$-plane and O$7^-$-plane with eight D7-branes, which applies to particular non-Lagrangian theories realized by brane configurations involving an O$7^+$-plane. As a concrete application of our method, we compute the superconformal indices for all known rank-1 non-Lagrangian theories, which we also use to identify flavor symmetries and their global forms at the conformal field theory (CFT) fixed points., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have been a good solution for understanding a vast image dataset. As the increased number of battery-equipped electric vehicles is flourishing globally, there has been much research on understanding which charge levels electric vehicle drivers would choose to charge their vehicles to get to their destination without any prevention. We implemented deep learning approaches to analyze the tabular datasets to understand their state of charge and which charge levels they would choose. In addition, we implemented the Image Generator for Tabular Dataset algorithm to utilize tabular datasets as image datasets to train convolutional neural networks. Also, we integrated other CNN architecture such as EfficientNet to prove that CNN is a great learner for reading information from images that were converted from the tabular dataset, and able to predict charge levels for battery-equipped electric vehicles. We also evaluated several optimization methods to enhance the learning rate of the models and examined further analysis on improving the model architecture.

The unique mechanism by which leaf margin cells regain potency and then form a plantlet in Kalanchoë spp. remains elusive, but involves organogenesis and embryogenesis in response to age, day length, nutrient availability and drought stress. In light of this, we investigated whether Target Of Rapamycin (TOR), a conserved protein kinase in eukaryotes which controls cell growth and metabolism in response to nutrient and energy availability, may regulate plantlet formation. KdTOR was expressed in the leaf margin at the site of plantlet initiation, in the early plantlet cotyledons and in the root tip of the developed plantlet. Both chemical and genetic inhibition of TOR Kinase activity in Kalanchoë daigremontiana leaves disrupted plantlet formation. Furthermore, downregulation of KdTOR in transgenic plants led to wide-ranging transcriptional changes, including decreased KdSTM and KdLEC1 expression, whereas auxin treatments induced KdTOR expression in the plantlet roots. These results suggest that the KdTOR pathway controls plantlet development in cooperation with auxin, organogenesis, and embryogenesis pathways. The ancient and highly conserved TOR Kinase therefore controls diverse and novel developmental pathways such as asexual reproduction within the land plant lineage.

Recently, diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening utilizing ultra-wide optical coherence tomography angiography (UW-OCTA) has been used in clinical practices to detect signs of early DR. However, developing a deep learning-based DR analysis system using UW-OCTA images is not trivial due to the difficulty of data collection and the absence of public datasets. By realistic constraints, a model trained on small datasets may obtain sub-par performance. Therefore, to help ophthalmologists be less confused about models' incorrect decisions, the models should be robust even in data scarcity settings. To address the above practical challenging, we present a comprehensive empirical study for DR analysis tasks, including lesion segmentation, image quality assessment, and DR grading. For each task, we introduce a robust training scheme by leveraging ensemble learning, data augmentation, and semi-supervised learning. Furthermore, we propose reliable pseudo labeling that excludes uncertain pseudo-labels based on the model's confidence scores to reduce the negative effect of noisy pseudo-labels. By exploiting the proposed approaches, we achieved 1st place in the Diabetic Retinopathy Analysis Challenge.

We consider smooth locally Hamiltonian flows on compact surfaces of genus $g\geq 2$ to prove their deviation of Birkhoff integrals for smooth observables. Our work generalizes results of Forni and Bufetov which prove the existence of deviation spectrum of Birkhoff integrals for observables whose jets vanish at sufficiently high order around fixed points of the flow. They showed that ergodic integrals can display a power spectrum of behaviours with exactly $g$ positive exponents related to the positive Lyapunov exponents of the cocycle so-called Kontsevich-Zorich, a renormalization cocycle over the Teichm\"uller flow on a stratum of the moduli space of translation surfaces. Our paper extends the study of the spectrum of deviations of ergodic integrals beyond the case of observables whose jets vanish at sufficiently high order around fixed points. We prove the existence of some extra terms in deviation spectrum related to non-vanishing of the derivatives of observables at fixed points. The proof of this new phenomenon is based on tools developed in the recent work of the first author and Ulcigrai for locally Hamiltonian flows having only (simple) non-degenerate saddles. Recently, we employed electronic polarization-resolved Raman spectroscopy to reveal the strongly correlated excitonic insulator (EI) nature of Ta2NiSe5, Volkov et al. [arXiv:2007.07344], and also showed that for Ta$_2$Ni(Se$_{1-x}$S$_x$)$_5$ alloys the critical excitonic fluctuations diminish with sulfur concentration x exposing a cooperating lattice instability that takes over for large x, Volkov et al. [arXiv:2104.07032]. Here we focus on the lattice dynamics of this EI family. We identify all Raman-active optical phonons of fully symmetric and ac-quadrupole-like symmetries and study their evolution with temperature and sulfur concentration. We demonstrate the change of selection rules at temperatures below the orthorhombic-to-monoclinic transition at Tc(x) that is related to the EI phase. We find that Tc(x) decrease monotonically from 328 K for Ta2NiSe5 to 120 K for Ta2NiS5 and that the magnitude of lattice distortion also decreases with the sulfur concentration x. For x < 0.7, the two lowest-frequency B2g phonon modes show strongly asymmetric lineshapes at high temperatures due to Fano interference with the broad excitonic continuum present in a semimetallic state. Within the framework of extended Fano model, we develop a quantitative description of the interacting exciton-phonon excitation lineshape, enabling us to derive the intrinsic phonon parameters and determine the exciton-phonon interaction strength, that affects the transition temperature Tc(x). We also observe signatures of the acoustic mode scattered assisted by the structural domain walls formed below Tc. Based on our results, we additionally present a consistent interpretation of the origin of oscillations observed in time-resolved pump-probe experiments.

We compute the partition function for 6d $\mathcal{N}=1$ $SO(2N)$ gauge theories compactified on a circle with $\mathbb{Z}_2$ outer automorphism twist. We perform the computation based on 5-brane webs with two O5-planes using topological vertex with two O5-planes. As representative examples, we consider 6d $SO(8)$ and $SU(3)$ gauge theories with $\mathbb{Z}_2$ twist. In the first part of the thesis, we prove the bounds of ergodic averages for nilflows on general higher step nilmanifolds. It is well known that a flow is not renormalizable on higher step nilpotent Lie algebras and it is not possible to adapt the methods of analysis in moduli space. Instead, we develop the technique called ’scaling method’ for operators behaves like renormalization. On the space of Lie algebra satisfying the "transverse" condition, we obtain the speed of convergence of ergodic averages with the polynomial type of exponent regarding the structure of nilpotent Lie algebras.In the second part, we introduce the results on higher rank actions on Heisenberg nilmanifolds. We develop the method for higher rank action by following the work of A.Bufetov and G.Forni. We construct the finitely-additive measure called Bufetov functional and obtain the prove deviation of ergodic averages on Heisenberg nilmanifolds. As an application, we prove the limit theorem of normalized ergodic integrals.

This paper deals with the design of an analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) scheme for a highly precise magnet current supply (MPS). The MPSs are requires with stable and precise current specification in range of the ppm. To meet the requirements, the AD circuit is composed of parallel ADCs of low-medium resolution. Digitally, the oversampling and averaging are performed to increase both the effective resolution and the signal to noise ratio (SNR). The implemented AD circuit was improved about 18 dB (32 times oversampling). The MPS applied by the proposed ADC scheme provides more precise control and the stable current within 10 ppm at 200 A. Functional manipulation of graphene is an important topic in view of both fundamental researches and practical applications. In this study, we show that intercalation of 5$d$ transition metals in epitaxial graphene on SiC is a promising approach to realize topologically nontrivial phases with a finite band gap in graphene. Using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory, we show that the Re- and Ta-intercalated graphene become two-dimensional topological insulators which exhibit linear Dirac cones and quadratic bands with topological band gaps, respectively. The appearance of the topological states is attributed to the strong spin-orbit coupling strength of the intercalants. We find that topological edge states exist within the finite bulk band gap in accordance with the bulk-boundary correspondence. We also discuss the spin splitting of the band structure due to the inversion symmetry breaking and the spin-orbit coupling. Our results demonstrate that intercalation of graphene is an effective and viable method to manipulate the band gap and the topological character of graphene. Nature often creates complex structures by rearranging pre-existing units. One such example is the flower head (capitulum) in daisies, where a group of flowers (florets) and phyllaries (modified bracts) are arranged to superficially mimic a single flower. The capitulum is a key taxonomical innovation that defines the daisy family (Asteraceae), the largest flowering plant group. However, patterning mechanisms underlying its structure remain elusive. Here, we show that auxin, a plant hormone, provides a developmental patterning cue for the capitulum. During capitulum development, a temporal auxin gradient occurs, regulating the successive and centripetal formation of distinct florets and phyllaries. Disruption of the endogenous auxin gradient led to homeotic conversions of florets and phyllaries in the capitulum. Furthermore, auxin regulates floral meristem identity genes, such as Matricaria inodora RAY2 and Matricaria inodora LFY, which determine floret and phyllary identity. This study reveals the mechanism of capitulum patterning and highlights how common developmental tools, such as hormone gradients, have independently evolved in plants and animals.

While the role of proteins in determining cell identity has been extensively studied, the contribution of small noncoding RNA molecules such as miRNAs and siRNAs has been also recognised. miRNAs bind to complementary sites in target mRNA molecules to trigger the degradation or translational inhibition of those targets. Recent studies have revealed that miRNAs play pivotal roles in key developmental processes such as patterning of the embryo, meristem, leaf, and flower. Furthermore, these miRNAs have been recruited throughout plant evolution into pathways that create diverse plant organ forms and shapes. This review focuses on the roles of miRNAs in establishing plant cell identity during key plant development processes and creating morphological diversity during plant evolution.

Flower forms are both highly diverse and multifaceted. As well as varying in colour, size, organ number, and much more, flowers show different types of symmetry. Floral symmetry can be grouped into three main categories: asymmetry, bilateral symmetry and radial symmetry, characterised by zero, one, and multiple planes of symmetry, respectively. This review will first explore floral symmetry from a classical morphological view, then from a modern molecular perspective. The recent molecular work on symmetry in monocots and eudicots will be discussed, followed by an in-depth discussion into the evolution of CYC genes, particularly in the capitulum of the sunflower family (Asteraceae). Whilst recent studies on non-model species are helping to bring new light to this field, more species coverage is required to understand how traits such as bilateral symmetry have evolved so many times, and whether the same molecular regulators were recruited for this function.

This paper explores the nascent concept of touch with restraint in the design of an interactive object. The design was developed to support children on the autism spectrum in social interaction and to facilitate a feeling of social connectedness. Throughout a constructive design case, the desired nature and interaction style of this interactive object emerged. An object that is characterized by touch with restraint facilitates adoption as a transitional object and mirrors passively and minimally the actions of a user. The design concept and prototype Fuzzy Bird showed the effectiveness of the concept in a user test. This strong concept contributes to the debate of how we come to live with interactive technologies, by drawing attention to the possibility of self-imposing limits on how much interactive technologies do and being respectful toward the human interactions they help facilitate.

All members of Asteraceae, the largest flowering family, have a unique compressed inflorescence known as a capitulum, which resembles a solitary flower. The capitulum often consists of bilateral (zygomorphic) ray florets and radial (actinomorphic) disc florets. In Antirrhinum majus, floral zygomorphy is established by the interplay between dorsal petal identity genes, CYCLOIDEA (CYC) and RADIALIS (RAD), and a ventral gene DIVARICATA (DIV). To investigate the role of CYC, RAD, and DIV in the development of ray and disc florets within a capitulum, we isolated homologs of these genes from an Asteraceae species, Senecio vulgaris (common groundsel). After initial uniform expression of RAY3 (CYC), SvRAD, and SvDIV1B in ray florets only, RAY3 and SvRAD were exclusively expressed in the ventral petals of the ray florets. Our functional analysis further showed that RAY3 promotes and SvDIV1B represses petal growth, confirming their roles in floral zygomorphy. Our results highlight that while floral symmetry genes such as RAY3 and SvDIV1B appear to have a conserved role in petal growth in both Senecio and Antirrhinum, the regulatory relationships and expression domains are divergent, allowing ventral petal elongation in Senecio versus dorsal petal elongation in Antirrhinum In S vulgaris, diversification of CYC genes has led to novel interactions; SvDIV1B inhibits RAY3 and SvRAD, and may activate RAY2 This highlights how recruitment of floral symmetry regulators into dynamic networks was crucial for creating a complex and elaborate structure such as the capitulum.

Kalanchoë daigremontiana reproduces asexually by generating numerous plantlets on its leaf margins. The formation of plantlets requires the somatic initiation of organogenic and embryogenic developmental programs in the leaves. However, unlike normal embryogenesis in seeds, leaf somatic embryogenesis bypasses seed dormancy to form viable plantlets. In Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana), seed dormancy and embryogenesis are initiated by the transcription factor LEAFY COTYLEDON1 (LEC1). The K. daigremontiana ortholog of LEC1 is expressed during leaf somatic embryo development. However, KdLEC1 encodes for a LEC1-type protein that has a unique B domain, with 11 unique amino acids and a premature stop codon. Moreover, the truncated KdLEC1 protein is not functional in Arabidopsis. Here, we show that K. daigremontiana transgenic plants expressing a functional, chimeric KdLEC1 gene under the control of Arabidopsis LEC1 promoter caused several developmental defects to leaf somatic embryos, including seed dormancy characteristics. The dormant plantlets also behaved as typical dormant seeds. Transgenic plantlets accumulated oil bodies and responded to the abscisic acid biosynthesis inhibitor fluridone, which broke somatic-embryo dormancy and promoted their normal development. Our results indicate that having a mutated form of LEC1 gene in K. daigremontiana is essential to bypass dormancy in the leaf embryos and generate viable plantlets, suggesting that the loss of a functional LEC1 promotes viviparous leaf somatic embryos and thus enhances vegetative propagation in K. daigremontiana. Mutations resulting in truncated LEC1 proteins may have been of a selective advantage in creating somatic propagules, because such mutations occurred independently in several Kalanchoë species, which form plantlets constitutively.

The flower head of the Asteraceae family is its iconic trait, yet little is known about its development. Understanding the fundamentals of the flower head development will help construe the evolution of one of the most successful plant families. In this thesis, we carried out an investigation into the role of auxin in flower head development and patterning in Matricaria inodora and Senecio vulgaris. Auxin is one of the most crucial plant hormones and has been implicated in almost all stages of growth and development. In Matricaria inodora and Senecio vulgaris auxin was found to be involved in flower head development and pattern formation. Manipulation of the endogenous auxin in planta showed homeotic conversions of disc florets to phyllaries or ray florets. Analysis of lateral organ identity genes revealed a concentration dependant response of the identity genes to auxin. The homeotic change of lateral organs in a concentration dependant manner is one of the key traits of a morphogen that had never been documented in planta before. We suggest that auxin acts as a morphogen in the developing flower head to control development and pattern formation. Visualisation of auxin distribution using a Beta-glucuronidase marker gene further confirmed the presence of an auxin gradient in the developing flower head. Auxin appears to have a secondary role in the petal outgrowth and shape in ray florets. In summary, auxin appears to be controlling the development and pattern formation in the flower head through the concentration dependant recruitment of lateral organ identity genes.
