Understanding the spatial distribution of soil organic matter (SOM) is important for land use management, but conventional sampling methods require significant human and financial resources. How to map SOM and monitor its changes using a limited number of sample points combined with remote sensing techniques that provide long-time series data is crucial. This study aimed to generate a regional-scale near-surface SOM map using 70 soil samples and covariate environmental factors extracted mainly from Landsat 8 OLI. Firstly, the sensitivity of each environmental factor to SOM was tested using a geographic detector model (GDM). Secondly, the tested factors were selected for modeling and mapping by ordinary least squares (OLS) and geographically weighted regression kriging (GWRK). The performance of these two models was compared. Finally, the mapping results of the better model (GWRK) were compared and analyzed with the traditional interpolation results based solely on sampling points to verify the rationality of the proposed method. The results show that three environmental factors, ratio vegetation index (RVI), differential vegetation index (DVI), and terrain roughness (TR), have a strong influence on the spatial variability of SOM. Using these three factors in combination with the GWRK method, a more accurate and refined spatial distribution map of SOM can be obtained. Comparing the SOM maps of GWRK and the traditional interpolation method, the results show that the accuracy of GWRK (R2 = 0.405; mean absolute error = 0.637, and root mean square error = 0.813) is higher than that of traditional interpolation methods (R2 = 0.291, MAE = 0.609, and RMSE = 0.863). The spatial recognition rate (fineness) of SOM patches at all levels using the GWRK method increased by more than 73 times compared to the traditional kriging. We conclude that the combination of limited SOM samples, environmental variables, GDM, and GWRK is a pragmatic approach for estimating regional-scale SOM.

For the purpose of maximize the utilization of wind energy and reduce the generation cost of wind farms, an active power control strategy of wind farm considering the fatigue load intensity of wind turbines was proposed. Turbulence intensity, average wind speed and active power command were used to evaluate the comprehensive fatigue load strength of the wind turbine. Then an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm was applied to optimize the active power distribution of each wind turbine, which maximize wind energy capture and keep the fatigue load intensity of each wind turbine within a certain allowable range. The effectiveness is proved by the analysis of an example. The results show that the control strategy is helpful to reduce the fatigue load intensity and reduce the operation and maintenance of the WF and the cost of power generation, which can improve the economy of the power system.

Patients with sepsis are prone to fluid overload (FO) due to fluid resuscitation, irrespective of stage of acute kidney injury (AKI). The aim of our study was to analyze the association between FO at continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) initiation and 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis associated AKI (S-AKI). In this retrospective study, data for patient characteristics were collected and 28-day mortality were studied. We also analyze association of variables, including FO degrees with 28-day mortality. Earlier commencement of CRRT showed better outcome. Non-survivors had higher FO than survivor (9.17% vs. 5.20%; p = 0.016). Survival in patients with FO > 10% over 28 days was significantly worse compared to those with FO ≤ 10% (p = 0.006). Multivariate analysis showed, FO > 10% (95%CI [1.721, 17.195], p = 0.004) was significantly associated with increased 28-day mortality. In S-AKI requiring CRRT, FO > 10% at CRRT initiation was independently associated with 28-day mortality.

Teaming a strong preschool with less-developed, rural, or newly established preschools is an effective strategy to promote quality. Since 2015, Shanghai has sought to improve preschool education quality through collaboration. Guided by the “3A2S” theoretical framework, this study evaluated the development and effectiveness of preschool federations in the city using a mixed-methods approach. First, document analysis was conducted to depict features of preschool federations in Shanghai, which identified three main features. Next, a survey study including 702 stakeholders was conducted to assess the evaluations of preschool administrators, teachers, and parents of the effectiveness of preschool federations. Finally, an interview study including 15 stakeholders was conducted to triangulate the findings of the survey study. Results revealed that the stakeholders highly approbated the preschool federations, but parents’ evaluation was significantly lower than that of other stakeholders. Finally, the sustainability and affordability of the preschool federation policy are discussed herein. Implications for policy development and preschool management are also presented.

To reduce air pollution, China adopted rigorous control mechanisms and announced the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan (APPCAP) in 2013. Here, using OMI satellite, the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Application Center (SEDAC), and Fifth ECMWF (ERA5) data at a 0.25° × 0.25° resolution, we explored changes in NO2, PM, SO2, and O3 and climatology over China in response to the Action Plan between 2004 and 2021. This study attempts to investigate the long term trend analysis of air pollution and climatic variations during two scenarios before (2004–2013) and after (2013–2021) APPCAP. We investigated the climatic effects of air pollution in China before and after APPCAP adoption using geographically weighted regression (GWR) and differential models to assess the contribution of air pollution. The spatial representation analysis demonstrated how air pollution affected climatic factors before and after the APPCAP. Several important findings were derived: (1) the APPCAP significantly influenced air pollution reduction in China post-scenario (2013–2021); (2) the Mann Kendall test investigated that all pollutants showed an increasing trend pre-APPCAP, while they showed a decreasing trend, except for O3, post-APPCAP; (3) for climatic factors, the MK test showed an increasing trend of precipitation and mean minimum air temperature tmin post-APPCAP; (4) innovative trend analysis (ITA) showed a reduction in NO2, SO2, and PM, although O3 showed no trend post-APPCAP; and (5) pre-scenario, NO2 contributed to an increase in the mean maximum air temperature (tmax) by 0.62 °C, PM contributed to raising tmin by 0.41 °C, while O3 reduced the tmax(tmin) by 0.15 °C (0.05 °C). PM increased tmax and precipitation with a magnitude 0.38 °C (7.38 mm), and NO2 contributed to increasing tmin by (0.35 °C), respectively, post-scenario. In particular, post-scenario led to an increase in tmin and precipitation across China. The results and discussion presented in this study can be beneficial for policymakers in China to establish long-term management plans for air pollution and climatological changes.

Objective: The majority of patients with COVID-19 showed mild symptoms. However, approximately 5% of them were critically ill and require intensive care unit admission for advanced life supports. Patients in the intensive care unit were high risk for venous thromboembolism and hemorrhage due to the immobility and anticoagulants used during advanced life supports. The aim of the study was to report the incidence and treatments of the two complications in such patients. Method: Patients with COVID-19 (Group 1) and patients with community-acquired pneumonia (Group 2) that required intensive care unit admission were enrolled in this retrospective study. Their demographics, laboratory results, ultrasound findings and complications such as venous thromboembolism and hemorrhage were collected and compared. Results: Thirty-four patients with COVID-19 and 51 patients with community-acquired pneumonia were included. The mean ages were 66 and 63 years in Groups 1 and 2, respectively. Venous thromboembolism was detected in 6 (18%) patients with COVID-19 and 18 (35%) patients with community-acquired pneumonia (P = 0.09). The major type was distal deep venous thrombosis. Twenty-one bleeding events occurred in 12 (35%) patients with COVID-19 and 5 bleeding events occurred in 5 (10%) patients with community-acquired pneumonia, respectively (P = 0.01). Gastrointestinal system was the most common source of bleeding. With the exception of one death due to intracranial bleeding, blood transfusion with or without surgical/endoscopic treatments was able to manage the bleeding in the remaining patients. Multivariable logistic regression showed increasing odds of hemorrhage with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (odds ratio: 13.9, 95% confidence interval: 4.0–48.1) and COVID-19 (odds ratio: 4.7, 95% confidence interval: 1.2–17.9). Conclusion: Venous thromboembolism and hemorrhage were common in both groups. The predominant type of venous thromboembolism was distal deep venous thrombosis, which presented a low risk of progression. COVID-19 and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation were risk factors for hemorrhage. Blood transfusion with or without surgical/endoscopic treatments was able to manage it in most cases.

To investigate the functional pathways enriched and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with gram-positive and gram-negative sepsis.Dataset GSE9960 obtained from NCBI GEO database containing PBMC samples from 16 non-infectious systematic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) patients, 17 gram-positive septic patients and 18 gram-negative septic patients were included in the study. Functional pathway annotations were conducted by gene set enrichment analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis. DEGs were filtered and master DEGs were then validated in PBMCs of gram-positive septic, gram-negative septic and non-infectious SIRS patients.The enriched gene sets in gram-positive sepsis and gram-negative sepsis were significantly different. The results indicated the opposite co-expression networks in SIRS and gram-negative sepsis, and the entirely different co-expression networks in gram-positive and gram-negative sepsis. Furthermore, we validated thatThe results indicate that there are differences in the mechanism and pathogenesis of gram-positive and gram-negative sepsis, which may provide potential markers for sepsis diagnosis and empirical antimicrobial therapy.

Acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) is a life-threatening disease. The understanding of its pathogenesis and treatment approaches remains unclear. In the present work, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from two ATAAD datasets GSE52093 and GSE98770 were filtered. Transcription factor TEAD4 was predicted as a key modulator in protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. Weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) identified five modules in GSE52093 and four modules in GSE98770 were highly correlated with ATAAD. 71 consensus DEGs of highly correlated modules were defined and functionally annotated. L1000CDS2 was executed to predict drug for drug repositioning in ATAAD treatment. Eight compounds were filtered as potential drugs. Integrative analysis revealed the interaction network of five differentially expressed miRNA and 16 targeted DEGs. Finally, master DEGs were validated in human ATAAD samples and AD cell model in vitro. TIMP3 and SORBS1 were downregulated in ATAAD samples and AD cell model, while PRUNE2 only decreased in vitro. Calcium channel blocker and glucocorticoid receptor agonist might be potential drugs for ATAAD. The present study offers potential targets and underlying molecular mechanisms ATAAD pathogenesis, prevention and drug discovery.
