Abstract

Two racemic isomeric dihydronaphthalenes 1 and 2 were prepared from commercially available 5-hydroxytetralone in five linear steps. A key palladium-catalyzed double bond migration led to the synthesis of both isomers from the same starting material. Preparative chiral HPLC separation provided the enantiomerically pure materials. An asymmetric synthesis employing CBS reduction to furnish 1 was also developed.

Aarón Quintanilla Escobedo Tierra generosa. Origen de una colonia agrícola en Nayarit, Tepic: CECAN, 2011. Como todo libro de historia, éste nos ofrece la oportunidad y el pretexto para seguir reflexio­nando y tener un mejor entendimiento acerca de este oficio tan vilipendiado, banalizado y para­dójicamente ejercido por infinidad de practican­tes de muy diversos campos disciplinarios y por muchos aficionados. Yo creo que la legitimidad de escribir historias viene dada por el acto en sí que cada quien ejerce para contar lo que le pa­rece plausible, digno de encomio, importante y necesario de comunicar a los demás por medio de una obra escrita. Ya los críticos prenderán ho­gueras o lanzarán cohetes, según juzguen. Pero la libertad de ejercer ese derecho es primordial, ya que es una actividad sana, necesaria e inevi­table. El destino de la obra (su acreditación o no) es un asunto que le compete a los lectores. Por lo pronto los autores escriben y publican, mientras nosotros leemos (cuando mucho) a veces bien.

Abstract

The Dark Energy Camera is a new prime-focus instrument to be delivered to the Blanco 4-meter telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) in 2011. Construction is in-progress at this time at Fermilab. In order to verify that the camera meets technical specifications for the Dark Energy Survey and to reduce the time required to commission the instrument while it is on the telescope, we are constructing a "Telescope Simulator" and performing full system testing prior to shipping to CTIO. This presentation will describe the Telescope Simulator and how we use it to verify some of the technical specifications.

“Este trabajo aborda la historia del rotativo El Demócrata Sinaloense bajo la premisa de que, como producto comunicativo, estuvo expuesto y llevo a cabo acciones de poder. Identificar, comprender, contextualizar y explicar estas, tanto al interior del periódico como en la sociedad en la que este desarrollo su ejercicio editorial, es el objetivo central de su estudio. El Demócrata Sinaloense surgió en la Ciudad-Puerto de Mazatlán Sinaloa, el domingo 14 de septiembre de 1919 como "bisemanario político y de la información. Órgano del Partido Demócrata Sinaloense". Su objetivo: promover la campaña de los generales Ángel Flores a la gubernatura del estado y Álvaro Obregón a la Presidencia de la República así como la del Dr. Adolfo Andrade a la Presidencia Municipal de Mazatlán”.

Abstract

The Dark Energy Survey Collaboration has completed construction of the Dark Energy Camera (DECam), a 3 square degree, 570 Megapixel CCD camera which will be mounted on the Blanco 4-meter telescope at CTIO. DECam will be used to perform the 5000 sq. deg. Dark Energy Survey with 30% of the telescope time over a 5 year period. During the remainder of the time, and after the survey, DECam will be available as a community instrument. All components of DECam have been shipped to Chile and post-shipping checkout finished in Jan. 2012. Installation is in progress. A summary of lessons learned and an update of the performance of DECam and the status of the DECam installation and commissioning will be presented.
