For modern Earth, the annual-mean equatorial winds in the upper troposphere are flowing from east to west (i.e., easterly winds). This is mainly due to the deceleration effect of the seasonal cross-equatorial Hadley cells, against the relatively weaker acceleration effect of coupled Rossby and Kelvin waves excited from tropical convection and latent heat release. In this work, we examine the evolution of equatorial winds during the past 250 million years using one global Earth system model, the Community Earth System Model version 1.2.2 (CESM1.2.2). Three climatic factors different from the modern Earth—solar constant, atmospheric CO2 concentration, and land–sea configuration—are considered in the simulations. We find that the upper-tropospheric equatorial winds change sign to westerly flows (called equatorial superrotation) in certain eras, such as 250–230 and 150–50 Ma. The strength of the superrotation is below 4 m s−1, comparable to the magnitude of the present-day easterly winds. In general, this phenomenon occurs in a warmer climate within which the tropical atmospheric circulation shifts upward in altitude, stationary and/or transient eddies are relatively stronger, and/or the Hadley cells are relatively weaker, which in turn are due to the changes of the three factors, especially CO2 concentration and land–sea configuration.

To predict and prevent the collapse and mud inrush caused by the deep karst trough in tunnels, an engineering case is studied. Firstly, a comprehensive identification method for the hazard-causing structure of the deep karst trough in tunnels is proposed and successfully applied. Secondly, the morphological characteristics and developmental mechanism of the deep karst trough are studied. The hazard-causing structure is mainly developed at the entrance section of the karst tunnel, which is funnel-shaped, mostly filled with clay and a small amount of gravel. The development scale is affected by the geological structure, tectonic movement, formation lithology and inclination, sunshine and precipitation, and surface soil. Thirdly, four hazard-causing modes of the collapse and mud inrush are proposed, i.e., rock mass failure of tunnel face, direct exposure of tunnel face, direct exposure of tunnel roof, and rock mass failure of tunnel roof. Finally, a treatment technology for collapse and mud inrush is put forward. The treatment technology is to “remove the mud, fill the karst cave, conduct advance grouting, strengthen the support, waterproof the collapse area, backfill the collapse pit.” The collapse and mud inrush of Qiyueshan Tunnel was successfully treated by using the above technology.

Rockburst disaster seriously threatens the construction schedule of underground tunnel engineering and the safety of construction workers. Rockburst prediction has become one of the critical methods for evaluation of surrounding rock stability and safe construction of deep underground engineering. To further understand the occurrence mechanism of rockburst disaster and predict rockburst in underground engineering more accurately, firstly, the typical rockburst tendency criterion and the critical factors affecting the rockburst development process are systematically summarized and analyzed, and the main control factors reflecting the whole process of rockburst development are screened and analyzed: mechanics, brittleness, integrity, and energy storage factor. Secondly, according to the comprehensive consideration of the main control factors, based on the energy conversion and overall failure mechanism in the process of rock failure, a new multi-parameter rockburst tendency criterion is proposed by comprehensively considering the stress states of rock unit under different stress paths. Finally, the rockburst criterion proposed in this paper is applied to typical engineering cases to verify its rationality and accuracy. Based on a rockburst section in the Sangzhuling tunnel, the possible location of rockburst is simulated based on the 3D discrete element numerical simulation platform, and the rockburst criterion proposed in this paper is further verified by actual engineering. The results show that: the rockburst criterion considering the mechanical factor(σθ/σc), brittleness factor(σc/σt), integrity factor (Kv) and energy storage factor (Ue/U0) can comprehensively and truly reflect the rockburst development process; based on the rockburst tendency criterion proposed in this paper, the occurrence of rockburst in typical engineering cases is calculated and verified, and the predicted results are in good agreement with the actual situation; the numerical simulation of the typical rockburst section prediction in the Sangzhuling tunnel shows that the distribution characteristics of rockburst tendency based on the criterion in this paper are consistent with the on-site rockburst occurrence, and there is a strong rockburst tendency on the right of the tunnel vault, which further verifies the effectiveness and engineering applicability of the criterion in the rockburst tendency prediction. The results of the research can provide some reference for predicting the tendency of rockburst in deep underground engineering.

In the post-epidemic era, it is of great significance to strengthen the training of clinical academic postgraduate students to enhance China’s overall national strength. However, in the new situation of epidemic prevention and control, the current training model for academic master’s in China cannot fully adapt to the needs of talent training in the post-epidemic era. Based on the research of relevant documents and literature, combined with the current situation of academic postgraduate training, this study summarizes the main problems existing in postgraduate training, and puts forward the following countermeasures and suggestions. We study the innovation training mechanism of graduate students from three aspects: teaching mode, tutor guidance and evaluation index. Finally, we combine the elements of scientific innovation with the characteristics of our professional background. In addition, we introduce academic innovation into the graduate training system to construct a high-quality academic graduate training mechanism in the post-epidemic era.

With the development of the Silk Road, this paper mainly studies the glass category, glass pattern decoration, weathering, glass color, chemical composition content as the indicators to make statistical rules and analysis rules, and analyze and summarize the relationship between chemical components content,For question 1, it is divided into three problems. Preprocess the attached data, process its invalid data, and integrate the data. The first question first uses bivariate correlation analysis, using Spearman correlation coefficient and Pearson correlation coefficient, and then using chi-square test to test the results of the correlation analysis. The result is: there is a strong correlation between category and weathering, while there is no correlation between color, ornamentation and weathering.[1]The second question is based on the statistical analysis model of the first question, under the condition of glass type and surface weathering, and the vertical sample T test obtained the statistical law of silica, potassium oxide, calcium oxide and lead oxide. The third question established a predictive model and used multiple linear regression to obtain the prediction results.

Background: Despite abundant research on AIDS prevention and intervention, many residual factors influence the actual impact of the intervention at a population level. Misconceptions held by subjects lead to patterns of behavior, which do not reflect levels of cognition. Methods: Cognition and behavioral patterns relating to HIV were investigated without intervention in freshmen before and after a two-year study period. A total of 461 freshmen studying at the university in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, were enrolled in September 2019. Data management and analysis were performed by SPSS 25.0 software. Results: Throughout the two years’ study, no significant changes in the cognitive level regarding AIDS were found while the frequency of sexual behavior increased significantly. A trend of inconsistency between cognition and behavior was identified. Conclusions: During a two-year period without intervention, it was found that the sexual behavior of university students gradually increased, perceptions regarding AIDS-related subjects were incomplete and awareness of HIV infection risk was still weak. A phenomenon described as the separation of knowledge from behavior was detected. Misconceptions that influenced behavioral patterns were identified as critical factors. Therefore, we propose that cognitive behavioral therapy may change the actual impact of AIDS prevention interventions.

When building tunnels in karst areas, the hidden high-pressure water-bearing karst caves are prone to cause geological disasters such as water inrush and mud gushing. In order to study the disaster process of water and mud resistant rock mass with the quasi-masonry structure and the accompanying catastrophe information of water inrush in karst tunnels by the drilling and blasting method, a new method based on the DEM and fictitious joint technology is adopted to simulate the evolution process of water inrush and study the evolutionary characteristics of catastrophe information like seepage pressure and displacement under the conditions of different joint inclination angles, tunnel depths, and thickness of the water and mud resistant rock mass. The research results show that (1) the seepage pressure and displacement in the water and mud resistant rock mass decrease and increase respectively along the water and mud resistant rock mass from top to bottom in the process of water inrush. (2) The displacement and seepage pressure in the water and mud-resistant rock mass increases with the increase of the joint inclination angle. The greater the tunnel depth and thickness of the water and mud-resistant rock mass, the faster the propagation speed of the fissure zone. (3) With the increase of the water and mud-resistant rock mass thickness, the failure mode of the tunnel outburst layer structure gradually changes from the overall collapse to the partial collapse of the vault to form a relatively stable slump arch. The research results can provide some guidance for tunnel construction in the karst tunnel.

The catastrophic regime shifts in the lake eutrophication ecosystems may be usually caused by environmental perturbations, and the lake dynamics exhibit bistability characteristics with oligotrophic and eutrophic states. This paper is devoted to investigate the time delay effect in a time-delayed lake eutrophication ecosystem (TD-LEE), where the dynamics ecosystem is deemed to be disturbed by both multiplicative and additive noises. On the basis of small delay approximation, we derive the expression of the generalized effective potential function in the TD-LEE and discuss the impact of stochastic delay on the regime shifts between oligotrophic and eutrophic states. In the view of dynamical behaviors on the TD-LEE model, we also revealed that the combination with time delay and colored correlated noises can expedite the regime shift from the eutrophication to oligotrophication, thereby inhibiting the development of lake eutrophication and protecting the stability of lake ecosystem.

In order to investigate the loading rate effect of energy evolution in granite, the indoor physical simulation test of single face fast unloading-three directions and five faces stress-vertical continuous loading under different loading rates was conducted using a new true triaxial rockbursttest system. The energy accumulation-dissipation-release characteristics in the process of rock deformation and failure were revealed. Based on the three-dimensional discrete element theory and the polycrystalline modeling technique (randomly generated Voronoi mineral grains), the entire process of rockburst inoculation-occurrence-development, as well as the energy evolution characteristics under true triaxial single face unloading conditions, were studied. The test results indicate that the energy transport and conversion of rock samples under different loading rates exhibit distinct stage characteristics. It can be divided into the initial energy accumulation stage, steady energy accumulation stage, rapid energy dissipation stage, and rapid energy release stage. With a rise in loading rate, the specimen in the process of energy accumulation is accompanied by energy dissipation, more external input energy, and elastic strain energy release amount into the kinetic energy of fragments, resulting in the rockburst phenomenon. As the loading rate increases, the elastic strain energy conversion rate (Ue/U) falls, while the dissipative energy conversion rate (Ud/U) increases. The higher the elastic strain energy conversion rate and the lower the dissipative energy conversion rate, the more serious the rockburst occurs. Numerical simulation results show that the entire process of rockburst inoculation-occurrence-development is successfully simulated using the crystal scale fine model (CSFM) considering the grain mineral composition. The ejection failure process can be divided into four stages, including grains ejection, rock spalling into plates, rock shearing into fragments, and rock fragments ejection. The relationships between the peak strength, elastic strain energy of rock samples, and loading rates are obtained, which is consistent with the laboratory test results. The high rate linear growth of kinetic energy evolution between the two inflection points can provide precursor information for rockburst prediction.

This study used the coordinated development of the regional economy and ecological environment in the Yellow River basin as the research object and selected 13 indicators representing the regional economic subsystem that reflect economic scale, economic structure, and economic efficiency in order to explore a path of high-quality economic development suitable for China’s national conditions and realize the modernization of China with common prosperity for all people. The coupling weights of each indicator were then calculated separately, along with the degree of orderliness between the two subsystems of the regional economy and ecological environment. Finally, the degree of synergy between the two subsystems was calculated. The subjective weights and objective weights of each indicator were first estimated using hierarchical analysis (AHP) and conflicting correlation among criteria (CRITIC). The findings reveal a strong growth tendency in the regional economic development of the Yellow River basin and a wave-like growth pattern in ecological environment indicators. Since it overtook the ecological economy in 2017, the orderliness of the regional economic subsystem has continued this growth trend, demonstrating that the regional economy is in front of the ecological environment and is in a dominant position. The Yellow River basin’s composite system of regional economic and natural environment exhibits a low-level synergy stage and an M-shaped development pattern of alternating increases and decreases. As a result, many solutions are suggested, including promoting high-quality growth with greater levels of opening, modifying the regional economic structure, and stepping up ecological environmental protection.

Research has confirmed that people with obesity exhibit special responses to food stimuli when it comes to food-related decision tasks. However, it is unclear whether the phenomenon exists in people who feel mentally obese, even though they are not obese. The aim of this study was to investigate the behavioral and neural correlations of food-related decision-making between young adults with negative body image at fatness subscale and a control group, so as to explore the differences in executive functioning between them. We used a time-delayed discounting task (DDT) and recruited 13 young female adults in each group to participate in the electroencephalogram (EEG) experiment. The number of selections for low immediate rewards and high delayed rewards was used as a performance indicator for DDT. Behavioral results showed a significant interaction effect between selection types and groups, where more delayed rewards and shorter immediate rewards were selected in the group with negative body image at fatness subscale than in the control group. Statistical correlations between body mass index (BMI) and selection times were found in the control group, but this phenomenon did not occur in the experimental group. The event-related potentials found that the P100 of young adults with a negative body image at fatness subscale was greater than those in the control group. P200 showed a significant interaction effect between groups, electrodes, and selection types. N200 and N450 in delayed rewards were more negative than in immediate rewards for both groups. These findings suggest that young adults with negative body image at fatness subscale are more restrained than young adults in the control group when choosing chocolates. Moreover, individuals with negative body image at fatness subscale might be more sensitive to food stimuli than individuals in the control group, because their P100 amplitude was significantly larger than that of individuals in the control group when exposed to food-related stimuli.

Weak fault detection with stochastic resonance (SR) is distinct from conventional approaches in that it is a nonlinear optimal signal processing to transfer noise into the signal, resulting in a higher output SNR. Owing to this special characteristic of SR, this study develops a controlled symmetry with Woods-Saxon stochastic resonance (CSwWSSR) model based on the Woods-Saxon stochastic resonance (WSSR), where each parameter of the model may be modified to vary the potential structure. Then, the potential structure of the model is investigated in this paper, along with the mathematical analysis and experimental comparison to clarify the effect of each parameter on it. The CSwWSSR is a tri-stable stochastic resonance, but differs from others in that each of its three potential wells is controlled by different parameters. Moreover, the particle swarm optimization (PSO), which can quickly find the ideal parameter matching, is introduced to attain the optimal parameters of the CSwWSSR model. Fault diagnosis of simulation signals and bearings was carried out to confirm the viability of the proposed CSwWSSR model, and the results revealed that the CSwWSSR model is superior to its constituent models.

The study aims to search for green, non-toxic bio-based plasticizers to replace traditional o-benzene petroleum-based plasticizers used in polyvinyl chloride films for automotive interior decoration. Three bio-based plasticizers – epoxy, polyester, and citrate were chosen and characterized based on refractive index, viscosity, and plasticizing efficiency. The three types of bio-based plasticizers were then applied to PVC films for automotive interiors. The odor rating, emission properties test, tensile test, dynamic thermomechanical test, low-temperature fatigue resistance test, and heat performance test were used to characterize the polyvinyl chloride film’s application properties. The results showed that the properties of epoxy plasticizer and polyester plasticizer are very close to those of traditional o-benzene petroleum-based plasticizers. In particular, polyvinyl chloride films prepared from polyester plasticizers have advantages in mechanical properties. The strength, elongation, and elasticity characteristics of PVC films plasticized with polyester bio-based plasticizer are 8.77 MPa, 533.92%, and 129.74 Nm, respectively. While the PVC films plasticized with epoxy bio-based plasticizer has an excellent heat resistance and aging resistance, with an initial gel temperature of 185.668 °C. However, the polyvinyl chloride film prepared with citrate plasticizer does not meet the requirements for application in automotive interiors due to its poor emission performance.

Climate affects vegetation growth and distribution, and vegetation affects climate by modifying the exchange of carbon, water, momentum, and energy between atmosphere and land throughout evolution history. Therefore, reproducing the vegetation distribution is of great significance for understanding climate evolution, vegetation evolution, and their interaction. However, a systematic map of global vegetation distribution since the colonization of land plants (about 480 million years ago; Ma) has remained to be determined. Here, Community Earth System Model (CESM) version 1.2.2 and BIOME4 vegetation model are applied to simulate vegetation during the past 480 million years based on modern vegetation parameters. First, the simulations reveal multiple maps of global vegetation from 480 Ma to pre-industrial (PI) period with a 10-million-year interval. 28 biomes show different distribution characteristics with the evolution of climate, and parts of characteristics are supported by palaeobotanical evidence. Second, the potential biomass as a measure of plant growth is analyzed to explore causes of vegetation variations here. The results illustrate plant growth and expansion is significantly affected by terrestrial temperature and CO2 concentration, followed by terrestrial precipitation. Besides, more land area in the middle and low latitudes can be more conducive to plant flourish in geological history. The simulations provide a reference for paleo-vegetation data and some insights into the interaction between climate and vegetation evolution.

The El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), originating in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific, is a defining mode of interannual climate variability with profound impact on global climate and ecosystems. Although ongoing coordinated community efforts have offered insights into how ENSO will change in the future under anthropogenic warming, the geological history of ENSO remains intricate. In particular, there is a clear lack of systematic study on how ENSO has evolved in response to vast variations in land-sea distributions and climate mean states over geological timescales. To unravel this, we analyze a series of time-slice coupled climate simulations forced by changes of paleogeography, atmospheric CO2 concentrations, and solar radiation in the past 250 million years (Myr). Our simulations for the first time demonstrate that ENSO is the leading mode of tropical Pacific sea surface temperature (SST) in the past 250 Myr. Further, the amplitude of ENSO is predominantly captured by the zonal advective feedback and thermocline feedback, both of which are primarily regulated by eastern equatorial Pacific climatological SST. These findings highlight the significance of climate mean states in interpretation of the amplitude of ENSO during the deep past, and provide enlightening implications for constraining future climate change.

In the deep past the solar constant was lower than present. In this study, we employ the Community Earth System Model version 1.2.2 (CESM1.2.2) to examine the effect of reduced solar constant on the climate of the past 250 million years. Two groups of slice experiments (fixed pre-industrial solar constant versus decreased solar constant) with 26 different paleogeography configurations and with fixed CO2 concentration (2800 ppmv) were run. In all the experiments, the global-mean surface temperature decreases as reducing the solar constant, consistent with previous studies. However, there is significant local surface warming in the experiments of 70 Ma, 90 Ma, and 150 Ma. The warming has a magnitude of about 2 K and occurs in the sub-polar ocean region. At 70 Ma and 90 Ma, the dominant mechanism is atmospheric teleconnection between tropics and sub-polar regions. Cooling in the tropics induces abnormal atmospheric waves, and the waves propagate to the sub-polar region and subsequently change surface winds there. The abnormal winds cause an increased poleward ocean heat transport, warming the regional surface. The second mechanism is that the reducing solar constant shifts the westly jets equatorward and causes an eastern wind anomaly, which also explains the warming at 150 Ma. Moreover, positive thermohaline feedback related to enhanced surface evaporation enhances the thermohaline circulation and thereby acts to further warm the surface. The phase of the atmospheric waves and their propagation path strongly depend on the land-sea configurations, so the abnormal local warming occurs in special periods only.

This study aims to overcome the challenges of high-value utilization of technical lignins that encounters chemical complexity, heterogeneity and broad molecular mass distribution. Kraft lignin was fractionated through a practical strategy involving sequential dissolution in solvents of different polarities (water, tetrahydrofuran, and water/tetrahydrofuran v/v = 3/7). Lignin self-assembled drawing on the anti-solvent method, generating particles of controllable surface energy. Considering the governing factors in multiphase stabilization, the morphology, wetting characteristics and chemical composition of the kraft lignin particles (KLPs) were examined as a means to achieve controllable Pickering stabilization of oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. The most anionic and hydrophilic KLPs formed aggregated networks (∼185 nm), which acted as a surfactant-type emulsifier following reversible adsorption at the O/W interfaces. Notably, the particles of the least hydrophilicity (∼146 nm) displayed a characteristic hollow structure. Such particles adsorbed slowly and weakly at the O/W interface, forming a viscoelastic layer around the oil droplets. The smallest lignin particles (∼39 nm) presented an intermediate hydrophilic character. They were uniform in size and formed rigid interfacial layers on the oil droplets. Accordingly, the devised relationship between particle morphogenesis and O/W stabilization capacity enabled the customization of lignin (size and wetting characteristics), allowing broader utilization in multiphase systems.

In ferroelectric heterostructures, the interaction between intrinsic polarization and the electric field generates a rich set of localized electrical properties. The local electric field is determined by several connected factors, including the charge distribution of individual unit cells, the interfacial electromechanical boundary conditions, and chemical composition of the interfaces. However, especially in ferroelectric perovskites, a complete description of the local electric field across micro-, nano-, and atomic-length scales is missing. Here, by applying four-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy (4D STEM) with multiple probe sizes matching the size of structural features, we directly image the electric field of polarization vortices in (PbTiO3)16/(SrTiO3)16 superlattices and reveal different electric field configurations corresponding to the atomic scale electronic ordering and the nanoscale boundary conditions. The separability of two different fields probed by 4D STEM offers the possibility to reveal how each contributes to the electronic properties of the film.

In recent years, human activities have led to significant CO2 emissions. The increase in energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases (mainly CO2) has led to consequences such as global warming and an accelerated rate of glacial melting, making global environmental development more challenging. Even though the monoethanolamine (MEA) method of capturing carbon dioxide is now widely used in industry, the disadvantages of this method still exist, mainly because of the difficult economic balance. Since CO2 is inevitable due to human activities, converting the generated CO2 into high-value clean energy to alleviate the greenhouse effect is a current research hotspot. Therefore, finding a perfect method for capturing CO2 from industrial and commercial operations as soon as possible is certainly a high priority. This paper provides an overview of the basic principles and practical applications of physical and chemical methods of CO2 capture and biochemical technology in the conversion of the captured CO2 into value-added products. The paper describes the current status and challenges faced in the application of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology worldwide, and finally shows the advantages and prospects of each method. This will lead to the development of a new carbon economy with commercial value, which in turn will facilitate the implementation of CCS on a global scale, ultimately leading to the goal of global carbon neutrality.

With the rapid consumption of shallow coal resources, the depth of shaft lining construction continues to increase; huge formation pressure and complex geological conditions make the stress condition of shaft lining become more complex. The concrete strength grade is usually enhanced to improve the bearing capacity of shaft lining; however, high strength grades bring high brittleness. In order to solve the problem of high brittleness of high-strength concrete shaft lining in ultra-deep mine construction, a steel-polypropylene hybrid fiber high-performance reinforced concrete (SPHFRC) shaft model was developed. The SPHFRC with various mix proportions was prepared by optimizing the fiber content. The mechanical properties of SPHFRC were tested and compared with the reference concrete (PHSC). The results show that the SPHFRC can be obtained by adding the volume fraction in 1.2% steel fiber and 1.0% polypropylene fiber, which increases the tensile strength by 27.5% and the compressive strength of SPHFRC was similar to the reference concrete. By introducing a new brittleness evaluation index B to evaluate the brittleness of concrete, the results show the fiber greatly improves the brittleness problem of PHSC. Afterwards, a model test of PHSC and SPHFRC shaft lining was conducted, and the circumferential and axial load-stress-strain curves and load-displacement curves of concrete and steel bars are analyzed. Combining the failure characteristics of the two shaft lining models, the following conclusions are obtained: The ultimate bearing capacity of PHSC shaft lining is hardly affected by fibers, but the hoop displacement is significantly reduced and the circumferential stability of shaft lining has been greatly improved, the initial cracks appeared late, the speed of crack’s propagation is reduced, and no obvious concrete peeling and separation appeared during damage. The comprehensive performance of SPHFRC shaft lining is excellent, which has better ductility and anti-deformation ability.

OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study are to (1) create clusters of joint temporal patterns of diet and physical activity (PA), and (2) determine the association of these clusters with health status indicators including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), fasting plasma glucose, hemoglobin A1c, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, blood pressure and health outcomes including obesity, Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome (MS) in U.S. adults 20–65 years. METHODS: A random day of PA from accelerometry data and the first day 24 hour dietary recall collected in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2003–2006 were used to determine absolute PA intensity, absolute energy intake, and the time of these activities. Dietary and PA data from 1,627 U.S. adults were Z-normalized. Dynamic time warping (DTW) coupled with kernel-k means clustering algorithm was used to develop joint temporal dietary and PA patterns that maximally partition individuals with similar temporal behaviors into mutually exclusive clusters derived from the data rather than predefined standards.
