Transcutaneous electrical cranial-auricular acupoint stimulation (TECAS) is a novel non-invasive therapy that stimulates acupoints innervated by the trigeminal and auricular vagus nerves. An assessor-blinded, randomized, non-inferiority trial was designed to compare the efficacy of TECAS and escitalopram in mild-to-moderate major depressive disorder.468 participants received 2 TECAS sessions per day at home (n = 233) or approximately 10-13 mg/day escitalopram (n = 235) for 8 weeks plus 4-week follow-up. The primary outcome was clinical response, defined as a baseline-to-endpoint ≥50% reduction in Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) score. Secondary outcomes included remission rate, changes in the severity of depression, anxiety, sleep and life quality.The response rate was 66.4% on TECAS and 63.2% on escitalopram with a 3.2% difference (95% confidence interval [CI], -5.9% to 12.9%) in intention-to-treat analysis, and 68.5% versus 66.2% with a 2.3% difference (95% CI, -6.9% to 11.4%) in per-protocol analysis. The lower limit of 95% CI of the differences fell within the prespecified non-inferiority margin of -10% (P ≤ 0.004 for non-inferiority). Most secondary outcomes did not differ between the two groups. TECAS-treated participants who experienced psychological trauma displayed a markedly greater response than those without traumatic experience (81.3% versus 62.1%, P = 0.013). TECAS caused much fewer adverse events than escitalopram.TECAS was comparable to escitalopram in improving depression and related symptoms, with high acceptability, better safety profile, and particular efficacy in reducing trauma-associated depression. Leather manual inspection is common in many industries, these methods are low efficiency and cannot be in line with automated manufacturing. In this paper, we propose a leather automated defect inspection (LADI) method based on machine learning and establish a practical LADI system composed of four modules: image acquisition, image preprocessing, image segmentation, and post-processing. The LADI method which forms the image segmentation module is a combination of multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and principal component analysis (PCA), namely MLPPCA. We propose two new algorithms that image preprocessing and post-processing to enhance the image quality and enrich details of the segmentation result. In the result analysis, compare MLPPCA, MLP, KNN, SVMRBF, GMM, show that MLPPCA has strong competitiveness in performance and execution time. The LADI system has been used in a China leather factory, the feedback shows that it combines the advantages of high inspection accuracy and short execution time. &nbsp

Given the national goal of “emission peaking and carbon neutralization”, China has become the largest country in the world for offshore wind farm construction. At the same time, navigational safety problems in offshore wind farm waters have become increasingly frequent. Owing to the complexity of offshore wind farm waters and the small number of accident data samples available for reference, the system theory method is more suitable for selection than the traditional method. Based on causal analysis based on system theory (CAST) and a complex network (CN), in this study, a qualitative and quantitative accident analysis model, CAST-CN, is constructed to analyze a complete case of vessel and wind turbine allision in offshore wind farm waters. The results show that, at the micro level, in addition to the master, crew, shipping company, and typhoon Hato, the maritime safety administration and the wind farm operation management department have a certain impact on the development of the accident discussed in this study. At the macro level, internal and external factors leading to the lack of system safety are identified, and measures and suggestions for system safety improvement are proposed based on analysis. This study can fill the research gap in the systematic analysis of traffic accidents in offshore wind farm waters and provide support for the safety assessment and decision-making of government management departments and research institutes.

A new species of the genus Troglonectes is described based on specimens from a karst cave in Andong Town, Xincheng County, Liuzhou City, Guangxi, China. Troglonectes canlinensis sp. nov. can be distinguished from its congener species by the following combination of characteristics: eye degenerated into a black spot; whole body covered by scales, except for the head, throat, and abdomen; incomplete lateral line; forked caudal fin; 8–10 gill rakers on the first gill arch; 13–14 branched caudal fin rays; 8–9 branched dorsal fin rays; 5–6 anal fin rays; 9–10 pectoral fin rays; upper adipose keel depth mostly 1/2 of the caudal peduncle depth; and caudal fin forked.

Work conditions and major life events can impact individual sleep quality, and subsequently impact mental health. This study aims to investigate effect of sleep quality on mental health of working Australians. We pioneer to employ a novel method in public health studies, a quasi-experimental (Instrumental Variable) approach, which can address reciprocal relationships between sleep and mental health in order to estimate causal effect of sleep quality on mental health on a sample of 14,480 working Australians aged 25-64 from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey waves 2013 and 2017. We find that work conditions such as high job demand, long workhours, long unpaid workhours, shift work, and major life events adversely affect sleep quality, and hence the changes in sleep quality strongly affect mental health of working Australians. The finding underscores the need for policies that should address current employment conditions by reducing long workhours, high work demand, irregular work shifts, and providing better support including emotional support programs, and creating worker-friendly settings to mitigate poor sleep quality in the Australian workforce. Doing so would help improve workers’ sleep quality, and ultimately mental health and overall health outcomes.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases among the elderly and it accounts for nearly 80% of all dementias. The pathogenesis of AD is complicated and enigmatic thus far. The mitochondrial cascade hypothesis assumes that mitochondrial damage may mediate, drive, or contribute to a variety of AD pathologies and may be the main factor in late-onset AD. Currently, there are no widely recognized drugs able to attenuate mitochondrial damage in AD. Notably, increasing evidence supports the efficacy of acupuncture for improving the mitochondrial structure and protecting mitochondrial functions in AD. This review reports the mechanisms by which acupuncture regulates mitochondrial dynamics, energy metabolism, calcium homeostasis and apoptosis. In conclusion, these findings suggest that AD mitochondrial dysfunction represents a reasonable therapeutic target and acupuncture could play a significant role in preventing and treating AD.

Regression-based methods have shown high efficiency and effectiveness for multi-view human mesh recovery. The key components of a typical regressor lie in the feature extraction of input views and the fusion of multi-view features. In this paper, we present Pixel-aligned Feedback Fusion (PaFF) for accurate yet efficient human mesh recovery from multi-view images. PaFF is an iterative regression framework that performs feature extraction and fusion alternately. At each iteration, PaFF extracts pixel-aligned feedback features from each input view according to the reprojection of the current estimation and fuses them together with respect to each vertex of the downsampled mesh. In this way, our regressor can not only perceive the misalignment status of each view from the feedback features but also correct the mesh parameters more effectively based on the feature fusion on mesh vertices. Additionally, our regressor disentangles the global orientation and translation of the body mesh from the estimation of mesh parameters such that the camera parameters of input views can be better utilized in the regression process. The efficacy of our method is validated in the Human3.6M dataset via comprehensive ablation experiments, where PaFF achieves 33.02 MPJPE and brings significant improvements over the previous best solutions by more than 29%. We take a formal approach to the explainability problem of machine learning systems. We argue against the practice of interpreting black-box models via attributing scores to input components due to inherently conflicting goals of attribution-based interpretation. We prove that no attribution algorithm satisfies specificity, additivity, completeness, and baseline invariance. We then formalize the concept, sound explanation, that has been informally adopted in prior work. A sound explanation entails providing sufficient information to causally explain the predictions made by a system. Finally, we present the application of feature selection as a sound explanation for cancer prediction models to cultivate trust among clinicians.

$L_0$ regularization of neural networks is a fundamental problem. In addition to regularizing models for better generalizability, $L_0$ regularization also applies to selecting input features and training sparse neural networks. There is a large body of research on related topics, some with quite complicated methods. In this paper, we show that a straightforward formulation, BinMask, which multiplies weights with deterministic binary masks and uses the identity straight-through estimator for backpropagation, is an effective $L_0$ regularizer. We evaluate BinMask on three tasks: feature selection, network sparsification, and model regularization. Despite its simplicity, BinMask achieves competitive performance on all the benchmarks without task-specific tuning compared to methods designed for each task. Our results suggest that decoupling weights from mask optimization, which has been widely adopted by previous work, is a key component for effective $L_0$ regularization.

Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressant with a narrow therapeutic window. Tacrolimus exposure increased significantly during voriconazole co-therapy. The magnitude of this interaction is highly variable, but it is hard to predict quantitatively. We conducted a study on 91 kidney transplantation recipients with voriconazole co-therapy. Furthermore, 1701 tacrolimus concentration data were collected. Standard concentration adjusted by tacrolimus daily dose (C/D) and weight-adjusted standard concentration (CDW) increased to 6 times higher during voriconazole co-therapy. C/D and CDW increased with voriconazole concentration. Patients with the genotype of CYP3A5 *3/*3 and CYP2C19 *2/*2 or *2/*3 were more variable at the same voriconazole concentration level. The final prediction model could explain 54.27% of the variation in C/D and 51.11% of the variation in CDW. In conclusion, voriconazole was the main factor causing C/D and CDW variation, and the effect intensity should be quantitative by its concentration. Kidney transplant recipients with CYP3A5 genotype of *3/*3 and CYP2C19 genotype of *2/*2 and *2/*3 should be given more attention during voriconazole co-therapy. The prediction model established in this study may help to reduce the occurrence of rejection.

PurposeThis systematic review aims to synthesize the literature reporting the motives, sociodemographic, attitude/behavior and impacts of fake news during the COVID-19 pandemic, targeting the general population worldwide.Design/methodology/approachA systematic review approach was adopted based on PRISMA, targeting articles published in five databases from January 2020 to November 2021. The screening resulted in 46 eligible papers.FindingsResults indicate low level of awareness, knowledge, media/health literacy, low trust in science/scientists and entertainment/socialization to be the main motivating drivers for fake news dissemination, whereas the phenomenon is more prominent among those with low socio-economic status, and males. Negative impacts were reported due to fake news dissemination, especially violation to precautionary measures, negative affections, and low trust in government/news, with many believing that others are more susceptible to fake news than themselves.Social implicationsConsidering the pandemic is still on-going and the deleterious consequences of fake news, there is a need for cohort-based interventions from the concerned authorities.Originality/valueThe systematic review covers a wide timeline of 23 months (i.e. up to end of 2022) targeting five well-known databases, hence articles examined are deemed extensive and comprehensive. Palmitoylation is a dynamic process that regulates the activity of the modified proteins. Retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells play pivotal roles in the visual cycle and maintaining healthy photoreceptor cells. Dysfunctional RPE cells are often associated with degenerative retinal diseases. The aim of the study was to identify potentially palmitoylated proteins in human RPE cells. By using the detergent-resistant membrane, we found 312 potentially palmitoylated peptides which corresponded to 192 proteins in RPE cells, including 55 new candidate proteins which were not reported before. Gene enrichment analysis highlighted significant enrichment of palmitoylated proteins in cell-matrix adhesion, cell-cell recognition, protein cellular localization, and translation, among others. We further studied the effect of 3 potential palmitoylation sites (Cys 799, 900, and 816) of Niemann-Pick type C1 protein (NPC1) on cholesterol accumulation. We found that mutation of any single Cys alone had no significant effect on intracellular cholesterol accumulation while simultaneous mutation of Cys799 and 800 caused significant cholesterol accumulation in the late endosome. No further cholesterol accumulation was observed by adding another mutation at Cys 816. However, the mutation did not alter the cellular localization of the protein. Conclusion: PRE cells have an abundant number of palmitoylated proteins which are involved in cellular processes critical to visual function. The palmitoylation at Cys799 and 800 was needed for cholesterol export, but not the intracellular localization of NPC1.

AIM: To verify the feasibility and safety of staged lensectomy and vitrectomy in stage 5C retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) with corneal opacification. METHODS: This was a retrospective, interventional, consecutive case series. Twenty-two eyes of 18 stage 5C ROP patients with corneal opacification were included. Regular combined lensectomy and vitrectomy were not prescribed due to the invisible fundus. Staged lensectomy and posterior vitrectomy were performed. The anatomical and visual outcomes were reviewed at the final follow-up visit. RESULTS: The mean gestational age of ROP patients was 29.3±1.6wk (range: 27-32wk), comprising 8 males and 10 females. The average birth weight was 1363.0±300.0 g. All the eyes had corneal opacity and flat or disappeared anterior chambers pre-operatively. Two eyes had complicated cataract and 7 eyes had retrolental fibroplasia. Six eyes had posterior pupillary synechiae or membranes. Seven (31.8%) eyes had vascularly active retinas. The average interval between two procedures was 6.8±4.6mo (2.5-18.5mo). After surgeries, all the patients had normal anterior chambers. Fourteen eyes had clear corneas. The intraocular pressure of 3 eyes with glaucoma was controlled by medication. Two eyes had ocular phthisis. The retina was reattached in 3 eyes and partially attached in 11 eyes. Visual acuity ranged from no light perception to hand motion. CONCLUSION: Staged lensectomy and vitrectomy are procedures that can halt progression to further complications and preserve some useful eyesight in stage 5C ROP patients with corneal opacification. The earlier the lensectomy is performed, the better the prognosis is.

We present a new class of strategic games, mixed capability games, as a foundation for studying how different player capabilities impact the dynamics and outcomes of strategic games. We analyze the impact of different player capabilities via a capability transfer function that characterizes the payoff of each player at equilibrium given capabilities for all players in the game. In this paper, we model a player's capability as the size of the strategy space available to that player. We analyze a mixed capability variant of the Gold and Mines Game recently proposed by Yang et al. and derive its capability transfer function in closed form.

Rhizoctonia solani causes serious plant diseases. Neocryptolepine presented the significant antifungal activity against R. solani, however the mode of action is unclear. In this paper, we investigated the potential mode of action of neocryptolepine against R. solani integrated the proteomics and transcriptomics. Results showed that after treatment with neocryptolepine, 1012 differentially expressed proteins and 10 920 differentially expressed genes of R. solani were found, most of them were enriched in mitochondrial respiratory chain. It affected oxidative phosphorylation led to the enrichment of ROS and the decrease of MMP, and inhibited complex III activity with the inhibition rate of 63.51% at 10 μg/mL. The mitochondrial structural and function were damaged. Cytochrome b-c1 complex subunit Rieske (UQCRFS1) with the high binding score to neocryptolepine was found as a potential target. In addition, it inhibited the sclerotia formation and presented antifungal efficacy by decreasing the diameter of a wound in potato in a concentration-dependent manner. Above results indicated that neocryptolepine inhibited the complex III activity by binding UQCRFS1 and blocked the ion transfer to cause the death of R. solani mycelia. This study laid the foundation for the future development of neocryptolepine as an alternative biofungicide.

The cortical-striatal abnormalities are commomly found in the mental disorders. Instant transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) has been found to modulate the ventral striatial functional connectivity (FC) in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the neural mechanism of prolonged longitudinal taVNS treatment on different striatal subregions has not yet been elucidated. We used resting state functional magnetic resonance to estimate the effect of taVNS on the FC of striatal subregions in patients with MDD. Compared with healthy control subjects, lower prefrontal-striatal rsFC and higher occipital-striatal rsFC were found in patients with MDD. While the prefrontal-striatal rsFC increased and the occipital-striatal rsFC decreased after taVNS treatment. Specifically, the decreased Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) scores were positive correlated with the change of rsFCs between left ventral caudate (vCa) and right ventral prefrontal cortex (vPFC), and negatively correlated with the change of rsFCs between left vCa and right superior occipital gyrus. The rsFC between right nucleus accumbens (NAc)and right dorsal medial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC)at baseline predicted the longitudinal taVNS effects on HAMD score at 8 weeks. Therefore, taVNS can relief depressive sympotoms by modulating the aberrant striatal rsFC in patients with MDD. The strength of rsFC between the right NAc and right dmPFC may serve as a potential biomarker for the prolonged longitudinal taVNS and predict treatment responses.

To observe the effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on the sleep quality and nocturnal heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with primary insomnia.Twenty-one patients with primary insomnia were included. Using SDZ-ⅡB electric acupuncture apparatus, Xin (COAfter treatment, the score of each item and the total score of PSQI and SL were all reduced as compared with those before treatment (The taVNS improves the sleep quality and objective sleep structure in patients with primary insomnia, which is probably related to the regulation of autonomic nervous functions.

The strong adhesion of thermally conductive silicone encapsulants on highly integrated electronic devices can avoid external damages and lead to an improved long-term reliability, which is critical for their commercial application. However, due to their low surface energy and chemical reactivity, the self-adhesive ability of silicone encapsulants to substrates need to be explored further. Here, we developed epoxy and alkoxy groups-bifunctionalized tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4H-MSEP) and boron-modified polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS-B), which were synthesized and utilized as synergistic adhesion promoters to provide two-component addition-cured liquid silicone rubber (LSR) with a good self-adhesion ability for applications in electronic packaging at moderate temperatures. The chemical structures of D4H-MSEP and PDMS-B were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The mass percentage of PDMS-B to D4H-MSEP, the adhesion promoters content and the curing temperature on the adhesion strength of LSR towards substrates were systematically investigated. In detail, the LSR with 2.0 wt% D4H-MSEP and 0.6 wt% PDMS-B exhibited a lap-shear strength of 1.12 MPa towards Al plates when curing at 80 °C, and the cohesive failure was also observed. The LSR presented a thermal conductivity of 1.59 W m−1 K−1 and good fluidity, which provided a sufficient heat dissipation ability and fluidity for potting applications with 85.7 wt% loading of spherical α-Al2O3. Importantly, 85 °C and 85% relative humidity durability testing demonstrated LSR with a good encapsulation capacity in long-term processes. This strategy endows LSR with a good self-adhesive ability at moderate temperatures, making it a promising material requiring long-term reliability in the encapsulation of temperature-sensitive electronic devices.

Pro-inflammatory factors may be associated with abnormalities in functional brain networks, which may be a mechanism in the pathogenesis of major depressive disorder (MDD). Electroencephalogram (EEG) microstates reflect the functioning of brain networks. However, the relationship between pro-inflammatory factors and the microstate abnormalities in patients with MDD is poorly understood. 24 MDD patients and 24 age-and sex-matched healthy controls (HC) were recruited. Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale(MADRS) were assessed. Serum (interleukin- 2(IL- 2), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and hs-C-reactive protein (CRP)and EEG data were collected. K-means clustering was performed to characterize different microstates. For each microstate, duration, occurrence and coverage were estimated. Four microstates (e.g. A, B, C, D) were characterized, MDD group showed lower duration, occurrence and coverage of microstate B and microstate D, while higher duration of microstate A and microstate C and levels of IL-2, TNF-α, hs-CRP than HC group. Alzheimer's disease (AD), also called senile dementia, is a neurodegenerative disease, characterized by progressive memory and cognitive impairment and different degrees of behavior-mental dysfunction. Clinical trials displayed that acupuncture therapy is effective in relieving symptoms of AD patients. In recent years, many experimental studies have been conducted in SAMP8 mice to explore the underlying mechanisms of acupuncture in improving AD. Results showed that acupuncture therapy can intervene the central pathological process of AD in multiple approaches, including reducing formation of cerebral β amyloid protein and promoting its removal, intervening the phosphorylation process of Tau protein, improving mitochondrial and synaptic structure, enhancing autophagy activity, accelerating cerebral blood flow, and increasing the levels of estrogen content, and improving the learning and memory ability, etc.本文对近年来以快速老化模型P系小鼠(SAMP8小鼠)开展的针刺干预阿尔茨海默病的实验研究进行归纳整理。研究显示, 针刺能够通过干预β-淀粉样蛋白生成和清除、Tau蛋白磷酸化过程, 改善线粒体和突触结构, 增强自噬活性, 提高脑血流量, 提高雌激素含量等多途径、多靶点地干预阿尔茨海默病的病理过程, 改善SAMP8模型小鼠的学习记忆能力。.

We study the impact of player capability on social welfare in congestion games. We introduce a new game, the Distance-bounded Network Congestion game (DNC), as the basis of our study. DNC is a symmetric network congestion game with a bound on the number of edges each player can use. We show that DNC is PLS-complete in contrast to standard symmetric network congestion games which are in P. To model different player capabilities, we propose using programs in a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) to compactly represent player strategies. We define a player's capability as the maximum size of the programs they can use. We introduce two variants of DNC with accompanying DSLs representing the strategy spaces. We propose four capability preference properties to characterize the impact of player capability on social welfare at equilibrium. We then establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the four properties in the context of our DNC variants. Finally, we study a specific game where we derive exact expressions of the social welfare in terms of the capability bound. This provides examples where the social welfare at equilibrium increases, stays the same, or decreases as players become more capable.

The synthesis of highly luminescent colloidal CsSnX3 (X = halogen) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) remains a long-standing challenge due to the lack of a fundamental understanding of how to rationally suppress the formation of structural defects that significantly influence the radiative carrier recombination processes. Here, we develop a theory-guided, general synthetic concept for highly luminescent CsSnX3 NCs. Guided by density functional theory calculations and molecular dynamics simulations, we predict that, although there is an opposing trend in the chemical potential-dependent formation energies of various defects, highly luminescent CsSnI3 NCs with narrow emission could be obtained through decreasing the density of tin vacancies. We then develop a colloidal synthesis strategy that allows for rational fine-tuning of the reactant ratio in a wide range but still leads to the formation of CsSnI3 NCs. By judiciously adopting a tin-rich reaction condition, we obtain narrow-band-emissive CsSnI3 NCs with a record emission quantum yield of 18.4%, which is over 50 times larger than those previously reported. Systematic surface-state characterizations reveal that these NCs possess a Cs/I-lean surface and are capped with a low density of organic ligands, making them an excellent candidate for optoelectronic devices without any postsynthesis ligand management. We showcase the generalizability of our concept by further demonstrating the synthesis of highly luminescent CsSnI2.5Br0.5 and CsSnI2.25Br0.75 NCs. Our findings not only highlight the value of computation in guiding the synthesis of high-quality colloidal perovskite NCs but also could stimulate intense efforts on tin-based perovskite NCs and accelerate their potential applications in a range of high-performance optoelectronic devices.

PM2.5 and its main chemical components have been investigated during six air pollution periods across four seasons from Jun. 16, 2016 to Jun. 15, 2017 at a suburban site in Beijing, China. Daily PM2.5 mass concentrations were measured with associated ions, OC, EC, 16 PAHs and seven heavy metals. Mass closure analyses were conducted using measured and reconstructed chemical components. Chemical ratios were used to identify possible pollution sources, while principal component analysis (PCA) coupled with multiple linear regression (MLR) method was used to estimate the source contribution to PM2.5 mass. The annual mean PM2.5 concentration (96.7 μg m−3) is about 2.8 times the national level-2 standard limit, with apparent seasonal variation of daily exceedances as winter > spring > autumn > summer. Generally, higher levels are observed in winter and autumn than in spring and summer for NO3−, SO42−, NH4+, Cl−, K+, OC, EC, PAHs and metals Zn, As, Cu, Pb, along with higher concentrations of NOx, CO and SO2. Secondary ions and carbon fractions are most abundant over all seasons, except levels of dust related species Ca2+, Mg2+, Ca, Fe and Mn are also high in spring. The reconstructed results show that PM2.5 consists of mostly organic compounds (26–38%) and ammonium salts (NH4NO3 + (NH4)2SO4) (43–53%) in winter and autumn, while summer is dominated mainly by ammonium salts (81%). In spring, very high PM2.5 episodes are occasionally composed of large amount of soil/road dust and gypsum particles (23–55%) due to floating dust events with drier weather conditions and human activities. Fuel combustions and secondary sources are responsible for ~70% of PM2.5 mass while mobile source is mostly a regional origin.

OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy of intensive acupuncture (3 times weekly for 8 weeks) versus sham acupuncture for knee osteoarthritis (OA). METHODS In this multicenter, randomized, sham-controlled trial, patients with knee OA were randomly assigned to receive electroacupuncture (EA), manual acupuncture (MA), or sham acupuncture (SA) 3 times weekly for 8 weeks. Participants, outcome assessors, and statisticians were blinded with regard to treatment group assignment. The primary outcome measure was response rate, which is the proportion of participants who simultaneously achieved minimal clinically important improvement in pain and function by week 8. The primary analysis was conducted using a Z test for proportions in the modified intent-to-treat population, which included all randomized participants who had ≥1 post-baseline measurement. RESULTS Of the 480 participants recruited in the trial, 442 were evaluated for efficacy. The response rates at week 8 were 60.3% (91 of 151), 58.6% (85 of 145), and 47.3% (69 of 146) in the EA, MA, and SA groups, respectively. The between-group differences were 13.0% (97.5% confidence interval [97.5% CI] 0.2%, 25.9%; P = 0.0234) for EA versus SA and 11.3% (97.5% CI -1.6%, 24.4%; P = 0.0507) for MA versus SA. The response rates in the EA and MA groups were both significantly higher than those in the SA group at weeks 16 and 26. CONCLUSION Among patients with knee OA, intensive EA resulted in less pain and better function at week 8, compared with SA, and these effects persisted though week 26. Intensive MA had no benefit for knee OA at week 8, although it showed benefits during follow-up.

Cesium tin halide (CsSnX3, where X is halogen) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are one of the most representative alternatives to their lead-based cousins. However, a fundamental understanding of how to regulate the growth kinetics of colloidal CsSnX3 NCs is still lacking and, specifically, the role of surfactants in affecting their growth kinetics remains incompletely understood. Here we report a general approach for colloidal synthesis of CsSnX3 perovskite NCs through a judicious combination of capping agents. We demonstrate that introducing a small amount of zwitterionic phosphatidylcholine in the reaction is of vital importance for regulating the growth kinetics of CsSnX3 NCs, which otherwise merely leads to the formation of large-sized powders. Based on a range of experimental characterization, we propose that the formation of intermediate complexes between zwitterionic phosphatidylcholine and the precursors and the steric hindrance effect of branched fatty acid side-chains of phosphatidylcholine can regulate the growth kinetics of CsSnX3, which enables us to obtain CsSnX3 NCs with emission quantum yields among the highest values ever reported. Our finding of using zwitterionic capping agents to regulate the growth kinetics may inspire more research on the synthesis of high-quality tin-based perovskite NCs that could speed up their practical applications in optoelectronic devices.

Whether in the West or the East, the connection between the ear and the rest of the body has been explored for a long time. Especially in the past century or more, the relevant theoretical and applied research on the ear has greatly promoted the development of ear therapy, and finally the concept of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) has been proposed. The purpose of taVNS is to treat a disease non-invasively by applying electrical current to the cutaneous receptive field formed by the auricular branch of the vagus nerve in the outer ear. In the past two decades, taVNS has been a topic of basic, clinical, and transformation research. It has been applied as an alternative to drug treatment for a variety of diseases. Based on the rapid understanding of the application of taVNS to human health and disease, some limitations in the development of this field have also been gradually exposed. Here, we comprehensively review the origin and research status of the field.

To explore the modulation of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on default mode network (DMN) in patients with primary insomnia (PI).A total of 22 PI patients (one patient dropped off and two patients were excluded) were included and treated with taVNS. The bilateral auricular points of Xin (COAfter treatment, the total score of PSQI in PI patients was lower than that before treatment (taVNS can modulate the FC between anterior and posterior DMN, and between DMN and cognitive control network of PI patients, which may be one of the brain effect mechanisms of taVNS in the treatment of PI patients.

BackgroundNeurobiological mechanisms underlying the recurrence of major depressive disorder (MDD) at different ages are unclear, and this study used the regional homogeneity (ReHo) index to compare whether there are differences between early onset recurrent depression (EORD) and late onset recurrent depression (LORD).MethodsEighteen EORD patients, 18 LORD patients, 18 young healthy controls (HCs), and 18 older HCs were included in the rs-fMRI scans. ReHo observational metrics were used for image analysis and further correlation of differential brain regions with clinical symptoms was analyzed.ResultsANOVA analysis revealed significant differences between the four groups in ReHo values in the prefrontal, parietal, temporal lobes, and insula. Compared with EORD, the LORD had higher ReHo in the right fusiform gyrus/right middle temporal gyrus, left middle temporal gyrus/left angular gyrus, and right middle temporal gyrus/right angular gyrus, and lower ReHo in the right inferior frontal gyrus/right insula and left superior temporal gyrus/left insula. Compared with young HCs, the EORD had higher ReHo in the right inferior frontal gyrus/right insula, left superior temporal gyrus/left insula, and left rolandic operculum gyrus/left superior temporal gyrus, and lower ReHo in the left inferior parietal lobule, right inferior parietal lobule, and left middle temporal gyrus/left angular gyrus. Compared with old HCs, the LORD had higher ReHo in the right fusiform gyrus/right middle temporal gyrus, right middle temporal gyrus/right angular gyrus, and left rolandic operculum gyrus/left superior temporal gyrus, and lower ReHo in the right inferior frontal gyrus/right insula. ReHo in the right inferior frontal gyrus/right insula of patients with LORD was negatively correlated with the severity of 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17) scores (r = −0.5778, p = 0.0120).ConclusionAdult EORD and LORD patients of different ages have abnormal neuronal functional activity in some brain regions, with differences closely related to the default mode network (DMN) and the salience network (SN), and patients of each age group exhibit ReHo abnormalities relative to matched HCs.Clinical Trial Registration[http://www.chictr.org.cn/], [ChiCTR1800014277].

ObjectivesTranscutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) has been reported to be effective for chronic insomnia (CI). However, the appropriate population for taVNS to treat insomnia is unclear.MethodsTotal twenty-four patients with CI and eighteen health controls (HC) were recruited. Rest-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (Rs-fMRI) was performed before and after 30 min' taVNS at baseline. The activated and deactivated brain regions were revealed by different voxel-based analyses, then the seed-voxel functional connectivity analysis was calculated. In the CI group, 30 min of taVNS were applied twice daily for 4 weeks. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Flinders Fatigue Scale (FFS) were also assessed before and after 4 weeks of treatment in the CI group. The HC group did not receive any treatment. The correlations were estimated between the clinical scales' score and the brain changes.ResultsThe scores of PSQI (p < 0.01) and FFS (p < 0.05) decreased after 4 weeks in the CI group. Compared to the HC group, the first taVNS session up-regulated left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) and decreased the functional connectivity (FCs) between dlPFC and bilateral medial prefrontal cortex in the CI group. The CI groups' baseline voxel wised fMRI value in the dlPFC were negatively correlated to the PSQI and the FFS score after 4 weeks treatment.ConclusionsIt manifests that taVNS has a modulatory effect on the prefrontal cortex in patients with CI. The initial state of dlPFC may predict the efficacy for taVNS on CI.

This paper presents a method called sampling-computation-optimization (SCO) to design batch Bayesian optimization. SCO does not construct new high-dimensional acquisition functions but samples from the existing one-site acquisition function to obtain several candidate samples. To reduce the uncertainty of the sampling, the general discrepancy is computed to compare these samples. Finally, the genetic algorithm and switch algorithm are used to optimize the design. Several strategies are used to reduce the computational burden in the SCO. From the numerical results, the SCO designs were less uncertain than those of other sampling-based methods. As for application in batch Bayesian optimization, SCO can find a better solution when compared with other batch methods in the same dimension and batch size. In addition, it is also flexible and can be adapted to different one-site methods. Finally, a complex experimental case is given to illustrate the application value and scenario of SCO method.
