La question du cancer est devenue un objet de recherche pour les sciences humaines et sociales. Son objectif est avant tout de dresser un état des lieux de la recherche sur l’histoire du cancer. Loin de circonscrire la réflexion aux domaines médicaux et biologiques, il inclut les dimensions politiques, sociales et culturelles. Cette collaboration a ainsi permis d’étudier le cancer sous des aspects très divers : représentations de la maladie depuis le milieu du XVIIIe siècle jusqu’aux années 1950. La lutte contre le cancer en Algérie s’impose avec la même impérieuse nécessité que dans la Métropole et les autres territoires Français d’Afrique du Nord. Les ravages que cause le cancer en Algérie sont en effet de même ordre que ceux dont il accable les autres pays méditerranéens.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of subchronic exposure to NaMBS (90 days), on the quantitative hemogram and the thymus histology spleen and stomach in Wistar rats. The study involved 24 female Wistar rats, receiving increasing concentrations of 0.25%, 1% and 4% of NaMBS in drinking water, for 90 days compared to the control group receiving drinking water without NaMBS. At the end of the experiment, the control and experimental rats were sacrificed, the blood and organs were removed and the hematological parameters were assayed. This paper described the architecture of the dog aortic arterial wall focused in the ascendant; thoracic descendent, and abdominal parts of the aorta. Furthermore, in this study we analyzed the wall structure of the right external iliac artery and the left vertebral artery of dog aiming to compare their architectural patterns with the aortic wall mainly in abdominal aortic part, which was structured by a mixed muscular and connective matrix equilibrated elements. The variables analyzed were the thickness of each mural layer; the number of elastic lamellae, mainly localized into the medial layer structure, and the diameters of each aortic segment. The aortic structure showed a typical elastic pattern in the ascendant and descendant thoracic parts, but in its abdominal segment a lesser presence of elastic lamellae permitted to classify it with a mixed mural composition. The aortic segments mainly presented variable amounts of smooth muscle cells and connective matrix assuming a meshwork pattern. Furthermore, smooth muscle cells were seen intermingled with connective lamellae and fibers forming the complex meshwork related, which certainly helped to guarantee the aortic mural integrity during the aortic blood flow. El objetivo de este trabajo fue describir la estructura histológica de la aorta del perro adulto, a través del análisis morfométrico. Fueron estudiados los tres segmentos de la aorta, ascendente y descendente torácicos, y el segmento abdominal inferior a los riñones. Esta última porción presentó un patrón estructural mixto, con tejido muscular liso y conectivo, con equilibrio entre las células musculares lisas y el componente mural tipo estroma, con elementos fibrosos y laminillas elásticas. En las otras partes de la aorta, se observó el clásico patrón elástico en la estructura mural, con una mayor proporción de los componentes activos (musculares lisos) que los pasivos, o sea, laminillas y fibras conectivas. El número de las laminillas elásticas fue decreciente desde la aorta ascendente en dirección a la parte abdominal de la aorta. Los diámetros de los tres segmentos tiñeron de manera similar. La comparación entre la estructura mural de la aorta y la histología de la arteria iliaca interna derecha y arteria subclavia izquierda, ambas musculares, fueron analizadas de manera objetiva, encontrando diferencias en el patrón mural aórtico, principalmente en el segmento aórtico terminal.

We investigated the cytoarchitecture and surface ultrastructural characteristics of different cells lining the epithelium of the saccus vasculosus of Notopterus chitala (Hamilton, 1822). The saccus vasculosus, the richly vascularized reddish, sac like organ is situated on the ventral aspect of the diencephalon just behind the pituitary gland. Histologically, the saccus vasculosus consisted of several loculi lined with a heterogeneous population of a large number of specialized coronet cells and a smaller number of alternately arranged supporting cells. The loculi were densely surrounded by blood sinusoids. The loculi opened into several collecting channels that united and ultimately drained into the third ventricle of the brain. The coronet cells possessed central or basal nuclei and an apical globular protrusion. Under scanning electron microscopy, the coronet cells were variable in shape with prominent nuclei. The supporting cells were triangular in shape and placed in between the coronet cells. The apical parts of the coronet cells had different shapes of globular protrusions with distinct stalks. Intense silver stain was noted in the terminal end of the coronet cells and nerves were attached with blood vessels. Under scanning electron microscopy observation, nerve fibers of different caliber were attached to the coronet cells and blood vessels. The various cells of the saccus vasculosus in N. chitala were correlated with their functional significance.

Os canais da RT são contínuos com os ductos eferentes proximais da RE. A ultraestrutura do epitélio de revestimento da RT mostra diferenças marcantes na primavera - a fase proliferativa do ciclo reprodutivo, e em meados do outono - a fase quiescente do ciclo reprodutivo nesta ave. As características ultraestruturais marcantes dos epiteliócitos da RT, nestas duas fases, foram a baixa eletrodensidade citoplasmática e ocorrência de poucas vesículas e lisossomos no outono, que aparecem com maior freqüência na RT primaveril. Aspectos degenerativos de organelas, e presença de extrusões citoplasmáticas apicais, apareceram em número expressivo no outono, não se observando aspectos ultraestruturais marcantes nas estações de inverno e verão, relativamente às observações de primavera. The RT of domestic quail from Italian variety showed mainly an albuginic pattern being represented by tortuous channels lined predominately by a simple cubic epithelium. RT channels extended along the testicular albuginea and penetrates into the epididymal region (ER) through its myoconnective matrix. Passageways were continuous to proximal efferent ducts of the ER. Epithelium lining ultrastructure of RT passageways showed some differences between the spring and the inactive phase at middle fall, concerning the quail testicular reproductive cycle. The features observed in RT epitheliocytes in fall were the low cytoplasmic electrodensity, paucity of supranuclear vesicles, which were abundant and variable in form and shape in spring, and some degenerative aspects of cell organelles mainly in ER lamellae. Moreover, presence of apical cytoplasmic extrusions were verified in the fall. No marked features were seen in the RT ultrastructure during the winter and summer comparatively to the active phase of spring. The surface epithelium of the vas deferens of Agouti paca, a wild and large South American rodent, was basically formed by principal and basal cells being only the principal cells related to endocytosis processes and also secretion taking base on their cytoplasmic ultrastructural features. Principal cell of vas deferens epithelium were characterized mainly by presence of vesicles with several shapes, sizes and internalized content at their apical cytoplasm occurring smaller pits and pale small vesicles seen next to the apical brush border of microvillus. Moreover, coated vesicles, smooth surface vesicles and great vesicles; multivesicular bodies, endosomes and lysosomes were seen. Presence of an apocrine secretory apparatus was also viewed, showing apical cytoplasmic expansions protruding into the vas deferens luminal compartment. The basal flattened cells, without luminal surface contact, occurred next to the basement membrane of the ductus, and did no exhibit special ultrastructural features. El epitelio que recubre la luz del conducto deferente de la laca (Agouti paca), un roedor silvestre de Sudamérica, está formado por células principales (P) y básales (B), en donde las células principales están asociadas a los procesos de endocitosis y secreción, teniendo una base en su característica ultraestructural citoplasmática. Las células principales de los vasos deferentes del epitelio se caracteriza principalmente por la presencia de vesículas con variadas formas, tamaños y contenido interior en su citoplasma apical produciendo pequeñas invaginaciones y pequeñas vesículas pálidas ubicadas continuas al borde en cepillo de las microveilosidades apicales. Además, fueron observados, vesículas de superficie lisa y vesículas de gran tamaño; órganos multivesiculares, endosomas y lisosomas. También se observó la presencia de un aparato secretor apocrino, con expansiones citoplasmáticas apicales que se protruyen en el compartimiento luminar del conducto deferente. Células básales aplanadas, sin contacto con la superficie luminal, se encuentran junto a la membrana basal del conducto, las que no presentan características ultraestructurales especiales.

Light microscopy analysis of the mural structure of the common carotid artery, internal carotid artery and external carotid artery in mongrel dog revealed variability in the middle values of vascular diameter and thickness of the intimal plus medial coats and adventitial coat. The vascular diameter did not differ between the internal carotid artery and external carotid artery, but was significantly increased in the common carotid artery from which the other two arteries had origin. El diámetro vascular no difirió significantemente entre las arterias carótidas interna y externa, pero mostró aumento significativo en la arteria carótida común, la cual da origen a los dos otros vasos sanguíneos. El grosor aumentado de las capas íntima y media de la arteria carótida común, más directamente sometida a la fuerza de la presión sistólica cardiaca, significó los ajustes constantes de la pared vascular a las alteraciones de presión y al estrés de deslizamiento controlado entre las capas de la pared arterial. El grosor de la adventicia de la arteria carótida interna fue significativamente mayor que la de las otras arterias carótidas (común y externa), las cuales, entre, sí no tuvieron diferencia con respecto de la adventicia. Estos resultados morfométricos estaban directamente correlacionados con las observaciones morfológicas de naturaleza cualitativa, especialmente, en relación al incremento relativo de la adventicia de la carótida interna ya apreciable en las microfotografías. Tal vez, la adventicia en la arteria carótida interna actúa como una capa conjuntiva protectora, durante el complejo proceso de avance de esta arteria desde su origen cervical hasta el nivel del canal carotídeo donde alcanza la cavidad craneana

Steps in the physiological construction of the neurone concept are described. Early ideas on the function of the nerve cell led to later polemics on the neurone doctrine and the speculative attitude of histophysiology. Researches of Sherrington and Adrian emerged from a specific British context, and confronted American oscillography and Berger rhythm. At the end of various polemics, the neurone was constructed by the intracellular technique and the use of concepts borrowed from other sub-disciplines. Secções histológicas selecionadas foram submetidas a estudos histomorfométricos usando métodos de análises de imagens. As variáveis analisadas foram as espessuras das túnicas da parede aórtica em três segmentos investigados, compreendendo as porções ascendente torácica; descendente torácica e abdominal, bem como os diâmetros tubulares, em cada porção, e o número médio de lamelas elásticas na túnica média de cada segmento analisado. A parede aórtica do galo doméstico apresenta estrutura predominantemente elástica nas porções torácicas, cujo número relativo de lamelas elásticas decresce gradualmente para a parte abdominal da aorta, onde células musculares lisas predominam. Os diâmetros aórticos decrescem também gradualmente, e progressivamente, da porção torácica ascendente para a porção torácica descendente, e desta para a porção abdominal da aorta. The segmental structure of the aortic wall at the thoracic and abdominal levels were studied in domestic chicken by light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Selected histological sections were submitted to histomorphometric studies using image analysis methods. The variables studied were the thickness of the aortic layers in the three segments investigated: ascendant thoracic, descendant thoracic and abdominal parts as well as the tubular diameters and the mean number of elastic lamellae in the medial layer of each analyzed segment. The aortic wall of the chicken had a predominately elastic structure in the thoracic portions, that decrease gradually in relative number of elastic lamellae towards the abdominal aorta in which smooth muscle cells predominated. Vascular diameters decreased gradually to the ascendant aorta from the descendant thoracic portion and to the last from the abdominal aorta. La estructura microscópica de la aorta de conejo fue estudiada, con recursos de microscopías óptica, electrónica de barrido y de transmisión, en las porciones ascendente torácica y abdominal, observándose variaciones morfométricas en el diámetro vascular y espesor de las capas de la pared aórtica. Los valores obtenidos fueron, generalmente, mayores en la porción ascendente. Características estructurales de la pared vascular fueron descritas, destacándose la presencia de pliegues en la túnica íntima; la formación de conexiones mioelásticas en la túnica media, variaba el número de lamelas elásticas en distintos segmentos, siendo mayor en las porciones torácicas ascendente y descendente, en relación a la porción abdominal. En la túnica adventicia predominaban las fibras del conjuntivo, dispuestas de forma variada, constituyendo una red. Los resultados fueron discutidos en términos morfofuncionales, teniendo presentes las pequeñas, pero significativas, variaciones segmentares observadas en la estructura de la pared aórtica de conejo Structural features of segmental parts of the aorta of rabbit were studied by light, scanning and transmission electron microscospies. The variabilities in architectural composition and thicker of the vascular coats as well as in vascular diameters at the ascendent (T2-3 level), thoracic (T6-7 level) and abdominal (L5-6 level) segments of the aorta were verified. Morphological features such as presence of intimal folds; occurrence of medial myo-elastic connections with segmental variations in the number of elastic lamellae, whose relative number was major in the ascendent and thoracic parts relatively to the abdominal part, and predominance of a network of stromal elements (connective fibers) in the adventitia were characterized. RESUMEN: Las observaciones de la red testicular (RT) del conejillo de indias en los estudios de microscopía de luz y MEB mostraron que la RT es cavitaria, axial y laberíntica y su revestimiento epitelial está compuesto por células cúbicas, pavimentosas y cilíndricas. Se observan estructuras tales como cordones epiteliales que le dan un aspecto de segmentos cordonales llamados de chordae retis.También puede ser visto un segmento extratesticular, llamado red extratesticular (RET). Segmentos de la RT "ricos en glicógeno" fueron observados en el conejillo de indias, cuyo papel podría estar relacionado con las actividades metabólicas en los túbulos rectos y en la RT o con producción y liberación de fructosa seminal. SUMMARY: The observations of the rete testis (RT) of the guinea pig at light microscopy and SEM studies showed that the RT is cavitary, axial and labirynthich and the epithelial lining is found by cubic, pavimentous and cilyndric cells. Structures like epithelial chordae are noticed and give aspect of cordonal segments, named chordae retis. Also, can be seen an extratesticular segment, named rete extratesticular (RET). Segments of the RT "rich in glycogen" have been observed in the guinea pig, whose possible role may be related to metabolic activities in straight tubules and RT or with production and release of seminal frutose.

Se describen, a nivel estructural y ultraestructural, las branquias de Chasmagnathus granulata y Uca uruguayensis, en relación a su participación en losprocesos de respiración, regulación iónica y del equilibrio ácido-base, en medios dedistinta concentración iónica y durante la respiración acuática y aérea. Las branquias de ambas especies presentan tejido ionoregulador, el cual cambiasu ultraestructura como respuesta al cambio de salinidad. Las diferencias anatómicas sediscuten en función de la estrategia respiratoria en aire. La regulación de distintas variables respiratorias, iónicas y ácido-base, se estudiapor medio de experimentos fisiológicos y bioquímicos, en sumersión y en exposición alaire. Se consideran los cambios en las variables independientes que controlan el pH,pCO2 y SID y la participación de la enzima anhidrasa carbónica. Los posibles ajustes enlas funciones cardiorespiratorias en medio acuático y aéreo, se estudian por medio delregistro de las frecuencias cardiaca y de batido del escafognatito; en condicionesnormales y con inhibición de anhidrasa carbónica. Branchial Histology and ultrastructure are described in the crabs Chasmagnathusgranulata and Uca uruguayensis, in relation to their role in respiration, ion regulationand acid-base balance, during adaptation to different salinities an aerial respiration. Both species show branchial ion-regulation tissue. This tissue changes itsultrastructure in response to changing salinity. The anatomical differences between gillsof both species are discussed in relation to aerial respiration strategies. Respiratory, ion-regulation an acid-base variables are studied by physiologicaland biochemical experiments, under submersion and air exposure.
