Obesity and insulin resistance are significant contributors to hypertension. There is a high prevalence of obesity among Uyghurs in the rural areas of Xinjiang, China. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the association between insulin resistance indices and hypertension according to different body weights in rural Uyghur residents of Xinjiang, China. A total of 12 813 local Uyghur residents were recruited for the study. Excluding those with incomplete data and those using antihypertensive, lipid-lowering, or glycemic drugs, 9577 permanent residents were eligible for the study. Three insulin resistance indicators were calculated: triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio, product of fasting triglyceride and glucose (TYG), and metabolic score for insulin resistance. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the association between the three non-insulin-based insulin resistance indices and the risk of hypertension for different body weights. TYG was significantly associated with hypertension in the normal-weight group, particularly in women. In the obese group that was obese, all three indicators were associated with hypertension. Since TYG was associated with hypertension in the groups with normal weight and obesity, it may be useful as a reference indicator for insulin resistance. This indicator may provide a basis for the identification and management of hypertension risk among adults in the Uyghur population.

Objective. This study aims to analyze the expressions of miR-21, miR-29, and miR-199 in the serum of the patients with H-type hypertension among Kazakhs. Then, we analyzed the effect of MTHFR 677C > T polymorphism on the association between the above miRNA and H-type hypertension. Method. In this study, the expression of miR-21, miR-29, and miR-199 was quantitatively measured in 120 serum samples and then stratified according to the C677T polymorphism to analyze the relationship between target miRNAs and HHcy. Results. The expression of miR-21/-29 in the hypertension group was higher than the normal group ( P < 0.001 ). And the expression of miR-199 was higher in the hcy group than in the normal group ( P < 0.001 ). In the CC and CT genotypes of MTHFR 677C > T, the expression of miR-21 was lower in the HHcy patients than in the normal individuals ( P = 0.005 and P = 0.001 ) and miR-199 was significantly higher in the HHcy patients than in the normal ones ( P = 0.002 and P = 0.048 ). No such difference was found in the TT genotype. Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for sex, age, BMI, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and MTHFRC677 T gene polymorphism, miR-21 was negatively correlated with hcy (OR = 0.222, 95% CI (0.101–0.485), P < 0.001 ) and miR-199 was positively correlated with hcy (OR = 1.823,95%CI (1.272∼2.614), P = 0.001 ). Conclusion. miR-21, miR-29, and miR-199 are associated with H-type hypertension in the Kazakhs, especially hyperhomocysteinemia. And these three miRNAs may serve as biomarkers to provide clues to the potential pathogenesis of H-type hypertension.

In this paper, writing the most general form f(R)=∑i=1naiRi+Λ the solutions of the pure geometric thick f(R) brane are investigated. For the certain value of n, the analytical thick brane solution can be calculated, and when n=3, n=4, and n=10, the thick brane solutions are presented. The solutions are stable against linear tensor perturbations. The zero mode of gravity and scalar field can be localized on thick f(R) branes naturally. The zero mode of a vector field and left-chiral fermion can be localized on thick f(R) branes by introducing the coupling with scalar curvature R of spacetime, and the massive resonant modes can be quasilocalized on the brane with the large coupling coefficients.

An investigation about localized CP asymmetries for the processes of $${\bar{B}}_{s}^{0} \rightarrow \pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}\pi ^{0} (K^{0})$$ B ¯ s 0 → π + π - π 0 ( K 0 ) is presented in this paper. The innovation of this paper is that there is a consideration of three-particle $$\rho ^0(770)$$ ρ 0 ( 770 ) , $$\omega (782)$$ ω ( 782 ) and $$\phi (1020)$$ ϕ ( 1020 ) interferences effect. Generally, $$\omega (782)$$ ω ( 782 ) and $$\phi (1020)$$ ϕ ( 1020 ) both can decay into $$\pi ^+\pi ^-$$ π + π - pair where can cause extremely small contribution from isospin symmetry breaking. Nevertheless, our analysis shows that $${\bar{B}}_{s}^{0} \rightarrow \pi ^+\pi ^-\pi ^{0}(K^{0})$$ B ¯ s 0 → π + π - π 0 ( K 0 ) decay process can bring differential CP asymmetry about $$65\%$$ 65 % ($$36\%$$ 36 % ) because of isospin symmetry breaking. To be better compared with the data from experimental in the future, we integrate CP asymmetry over the invariant mass and obtain localized CP asymmetry value for the decay $${\bar{B}}_{s}^{0} \rightarrow \pi ^+\pi ^-\pi ^{0} (K^{0})$$ B ¯ s 0 → π + π - π 0 ( K 0 ) . We find that there is an evident signal about CP asymmetry at invariant mass value $$m(\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-})$$ m ( π + π - ) below the mass of $$\rho ^{0}(770)$$ ρ 0 ( 770 ) with the decay $${\bar{B}}_{s}^{0} \rightarrow \pi ^+\pi ^{-}\pi ^{0}$$ B ¯ s 0 → π + π - π 0 .

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the reliability and accuracy of automatic coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring and risk classification in non-gated, non-contrast chest computed tomography (CT) of different slice thicknesses using a deep learning algorithm. METHODS: This retrospective study was performed at 2 tertiary hospitals. Paired, dedicated calcium-scoring CT scans and non-gated, non-contrast chest CT scans taken within a month from the same patients were included. Chest CT images were grouped according to the slice thickness (group A: 1 mm; group B: 3 mm). For internal scans, the CAC score manually measured on dedicated calcium scoring CT images was used as the gold standard. The deep learning algorithm for group A was trained using 150 chest CT scans and tested using 144 scans, and that for group B was trained using 170 chest CT scans and tested using 144 scans. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to evaluate the correlation between the algorithm and the gold standard. Agreement between the deep learning algorithm, the manual results on chest CT, and the gold standard was determined by Bland-Altman analysis. Cardiac risk categories were compared. External validation was performed on 334 paired scans from a different organization. RESULTS: A total of 608 internal paired scans (1 mm: 294; 3 mm: 314) of 406 individuals and 334 external paired scans (1 mm: 117; 3 mm: 117) of 117 individuals were included in the analysis. The ICCs between the deep learning algorithm and the gold standard were excellent in both group A (0.90; 95% CI: 0.85–0.93) and group B (0.94; 95% CI: 0.92–0.96). The Bland-Altman plots showed good agreement in both groups. For the cardiovascular risk category, the deep learning algorithm accurately classified 71% of cases in group A and 81% of cases in group B. The Kappa values for risk classification were 0.72 in group A and 0.82 in group B. External validation yielded equally good results. CONCLUSIONS: The automatic calculation of CAC score and cardiovascular risk stratification on non-gated chest CT using a deep learning algorithm was reliable and accurate on both 1 and 3 mm scans. Chest CT with a slice thickness of 3 mm was slightly more accurate in CAC detection and risk classification.

Paper-based point-of-need (PON) biosensors are attractive for various applications, including food safety, agriculture, disease diagnosis, and drug screening, owing to their low cost and ease of use. However, existing paper-based biosensors mainly rely on biolabels, colorimetric reagents, and biorecognition elements and exhibit limited stability under harsh environments. Here, we report a label-free paper-based biosensor comprised of bioplasmonic microarrays for sensitive detection and quantification of protein targets in small volumes of biofluids. Bioplasmonic microarrays were printed using an ultrastable bioplasmonic ink, rendering the PON sensors excellent thermal, chemical, and biological stability for their reliable performance in resource-limited settings. We fabricated silicone hydrophobic barriers and bioplasmonic microarrays with direct writing and droplet jetting approaches on a three-dimensional (3D) nanoporous paper. Direct writing hydrophobic barriers can define hydrophilic channels less than 100 μm wide. High-resolution patterning of hydrophilic test domains enables the handling and analysis of small fluid volumes. We show that the plasmonic sensors based on a vertical flow assay provide similar sensitivity and low limit of detection with 60 μL sample volume compared to those with 500 μL samples based on an immersion approach and shortened assay time from 90 to 20 minutes.

A body shape index (ABSI) has been proven to be related to a population's CVD incidence. However, the application of this indicator has produced different results.This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of the ABSI in predicting the incidence of CVD in rural Xinjiang, China, and compare it with waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and body mass index (BMI).5375 people aged 18 years or older were included in the study. We used the Cox proportional hazard model to evaluate the relationship between WC, WHR, WHtR, BMI, and ABSI and the incidence of CVD, the area under the curve (AUC) to evaluate the predictive power of each anthropometric index for the incidence of CVD, and restricted cubic splines are used to analyse the trend relationship between anthropometric indicators and the incidence of CVD.After multivariate adjustment, standardised WC, WHR, WHtR, BMI, and ABSI all positively correlated with the incidence of CVD. WC had the highest HR (95% CI) value, 1.64 (1.51-1.78), and AUC (95% CI) value, 0.7743 (0.7537-0.7949). ABSI had the lowest HR (95% CI) value, 1.21(1.10-1.32), and AUC (95% CI) value, 0.7419 (0.7208-0.7630). In the sex-specific sensitivity analysis, the predictive ability of traditional anthropometric indicators for the incidence of CVD is higher than that of ABSI.In the rural areas of Xinjiang, the traditional anthropometric indicators of WC had better ability to predict the incidence of CVD than ABSI.

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), known as “rocking-chair batteries”, have shown a huge success in consumer electronics and energy vehicles. However, the soaring cost caused by the shortage of lithium and cobalt resources as well as the need for ever-higher performance and safety has promoted an urgent need to develop high-efficient battery systems. Dual-ion batteries (DIBs), based on different working mechanism that involves both cations and anions during the charging/discharging processes, are expected to be an alternative to conventional batteries due to their environmental friendliness, low cost, excellent safety, high work voltage, and high energy density. Despite these merits, DIBs also face various challenges from the limited capacity caused by intercalation-type graphite electrodes and shorter cycle life resulted from large anions intercalation and electrolyte decomposition at high voltage. To overcome those challenges, various effective strategies have been adopted and many inspiring results have been also reported. In this review, we briefly outlined the history, mechanism and configuration of DIBs and mainly summarized the recent developments of electrode materials for DIBs, covering inorganic electrode materials and organic electrode materials, along with their application in various metal-based DIBs. Especially, recent studies on organic electrode materials based on so-called DIB working mechanism are also highlighted. In addition, the existing problems and future perspectives are finally proposed. We hope this review will provide some inspiration for researchers to rationally design more efficient electrode materials for more advanced DIB systems.

Chloroplasts are critical organelles for photosynthesis and play significant roles in plant growth and metabolism. High temperature is one of abiotic stresses affecting the growth and development of plants, involving chlorophyll biosynthesis and chloroplast development. It is well known that the methyl erythritol 4-phosphate (MEP) pathway is vital to photosynthesis and plant growth, and 1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate synthase (DXS) is the enzyme that catalyze the first step of the MEP pathway. Although DXS has been widely studied in microbes and plants, no DXS gene has been identified in rice. Here, a novel thermo-sensitive chlorophyll-deficient 5 (tscd5) mutant was isolated in rice with decreased chlorophyll contents, impaired chloroplasts, and albino leaves at high temperature (35 °C). Fine mapping and DNA sequencing of TSCD5 found a missense mutation (G to A) in the sixth exon of LOC_Os05g33840 in tscd5. The TSCD5 gene encodes a 1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate synthase 1 (OsDXS1) localized in chloroplast. Complementation tests and overexpression assay demonstrated that the mutation in LOC_Os05g33840 caused the tscd5 phenotype. qRT-PCR of TSCD5 showed it was constitutively expressed in all tissues, and its transcript amounts were reduced in tscd5 under high temperature. Here, TSCD5 is verified to be crucial to chloroplast development under high temperature in rice, which may facilitate the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms which underlie acclimation to high temperature stress in plants.

Background Gallbladder disease (GBD) can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, GBD has rarely been reported in the less developed, rural areas of Xinjiang. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of GBD and incidence of CVD in a prospective cohort study in rural Xinjiang. Moreover, the study aimed to explore the association between GBD and CVD within this cohort. Methods The study cohort included 11,444 Uyghur adults in Xinjiang, 3rd division, from the 51st Mission. Study groups were classified according to whether GBD was present or absent at baseline. The occurrence of CVD was the end event. Demographic, anthropometric, and biochemical data were recorded, and the incidence of CVD in the GBD and non-GBD groups analysed. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to assess the association between GBD and CVD and factors associated with their incidence. Several subgroup analyses were performed to assess CVD incidence in different subgroups. The interaction between GBD and cardiometabolic risk factors, and subsequent risk of developing CVD, was evaluated. Results Prevalence of GBD in the study cohort was 10.29%. After a median follow-up of 4.92 years, the cumulative incidence of CVD in the study cohort was 10.49%, 8.43% in males and 12.65% in females. CVD incidence was higher in the GBD group (34.04% vs. 7.78%, HR = 4.96, 95% CI: 4.40–5.59). After multivariate adjustment, the risk of CVD remained higher in the GBD group (HR = 2.89, 95% CI: 2.54–3.29). Subgroup analyses showed male sex, smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, and abnormal renal function were all associated with increased risk of CVD. Moreover, the risk of CVD was markedly higher in GBD combined with cardiometabolic risk factors (hypertension, T2DM, dyslipidaemia, overweight, and abdominal obesity), than in cardiometabolic risk factors alone and this was higher in the GBD group than in the non-GBD group regardless of whether cardiometabolic risk factors were combined. Conclusion GBD is an important independent risk factor for CVD development. Awareness of these associations will raise concerns among clinicians about the risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with GBD.

In situ self-assembly of semiconducting emitters into multilayer cracks is a significant solution-processing method to fabricate organic high- Q lasers. However, it is still difficult to realize from conventional conjugated polymers. Herein, we create the molecular super-hindrance-etching technology, based on the π-functional nanopolymer PG-Cz, to modulate multilayer cracks applied in organic single-component random lasers. Massive interface cracks are formed by promoting interchain disentanglement with the super-steric hindrance effect of π-interrupted main chains, and multilayer morphologies with photonic-crystal-like ordering are also generated simultaneously during the drop-casting method. Meanwhile, the enhancement of quantum yields on micrometer-thick films ( Φ = 40% to 50%) ensures high-efficient and ultrastable deep-blue emission. Furthermore, a deep-blue random lasing is achieved with narrow linewidths ~0.08 nm and high-quality factors Q ≈ 5,500 to 6,200. These findings will offer promising pathways of organic π-nanopolymers for the simplification of solution processes applied in lasing devices and wearable photonics.
