Introduction: Blunt carotid artery dissection is relatively rare and different from spontaneous dissections. Ischemic stroke is the main complication with high morbidity and mortality rates. Case report: We report the case of a 32 years old man who had a polytraumatic injury and was admitted in our emergency unit. Injuries of the head and a dissection of the right internal carotid artery were identified on CT. The patient was then successfully management and had surgical repair of right internal carotid artery and head injuries. Conclusion: Management of blunt carotid dissection is challenging; in fact, no guidelines are actually available. Treatment should be conducted quickly after trauma and could be conservative, endovascular or open.

Purpose: A gene expression signature, predictive for local recurrence after breast-conserving treatment, has previously been identified from a series of 165 young patients with breast cancer. We evaluated this signature on both another platform and an independent series, compared its performance with other published gene-sets, and investigated the gene expression profile of a larger data set.Experimental Design: Gene expression tumor profiles were obtained on 148 of the initial 165 Dutch patients and on an independent validation series of 195 French patients. Both unsupervised and supervised classifications were used to study the gene expression profile of the 343 breast cancers and to identify subgroups that differ for their risk of local recurrence.Results: The previous local recurrence signature was validated across platforms. However, when applied to the French patients, the signature did not reproduce its reported performance and did not better classify the patients than other published gene sets. Hierarchical clustering of all 343 breast cancers did not show any grouping reflecting local recurrence status. Genes related to proliferation were found differentially expressed between patients with or without local recurrence only in triple-negative tumors. Supervised classification revealed no significant gene set predictive for local recurrence or able to outperform classification based on clinical variables.Conclusions: Although the previously identified local recurrence signature was robust on another platform, we were neither able to validate it on an independent data set, nor able to define a strong gene expression classifier for local recurrence using a larger data set. We conclude that there are no significant differences in gene expression pattern in tumors from patients with and without local recurrence after breast-conserving treatment. Introduction: Ventriculo-gallbladder shunt (VGS) has been recognized as a last-resort alternative to treat hydrocephalus when the peritoneum and/or other distal sites can no longer receive shunts. In some specific conditions, it may be conceded as a first-line treatment. Case presentation: We report the case of a 6- month-old girl with progressive post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus and who presented a concomitant chronic abdominal symptom. Specific investigations ruled out acute infection and led to the diagnosis of chronic appendicitis. Both problems were managed in a one-stage salvage procedure consisting of laparotomy sanctioning to treat the abdominal pathology and seize the opportunity to perform a VGS as a first option since the abdomen is prone to ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) failure. Conclusion: Only few cases have reported the use of VGS as the first option to handle uncommon complex cases due to abdominal or Cerebro-Spinal Fluid (CSF) conditions. We wish to draw attention to VGS as an effective procedure not only in children with multiple shunt failures but also as first-line management in some selected cases.

The surface modification of textile fabrics and therefore, the development of advanced textile materials featuring specific implemented and new properties, such as improved durability and resistance, is increasingly in demand from modern society and end-users. In this regard, the sol–gel technique has shown to be an innovative and convenient synthetic route for developing functional sol–gel coatings useful for the protection of textile materials. Compared with the conventional textile finishing process, this technique is characterized by several advantages, such as the environmentally friendly approaches based on one-step applications and low concentration of non-hazardous chemicals. The sol–gel method, starting from inorganic metal alkoxides or metal salts, leads to inorganic sols containing particles that enable a chemical or physical modification of fiber surfaces, giving rise to final multifunctional properties of treated textile fabrics. This review considered the recent developments in the synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles and nanosols by sol–gel approach for improving wear and UV resistance, as well as antibacterial or antimicrobial effects for textile applications.

Introduction: Isolated spontaneous iliac artery dissection is a rare event that is usually linked to connective disorders. There is no established consensus yet on treatment modality. Case report: we report the case of a 44 years old patient with no history of vascular diseases or trauma who was admitted in our institution for a spontaneous dissection of the right external iliac artery. Conclusion: management of spontaneous iliac artery dissection is not well defined. In fact, patients could be safely managed with medical therapy in the absence of signs of complications. Endovascular and open repair are reserved for patients with complications like limb ischemia or imminent artery rupture.

Lipomas are benign soft tissue neoplasm. Despite they are the most common tumours of mesenchymal nature in human body, they are unusual in oral and maxillofacial regions The oral cavity occurrence rate ranges from 1% to 4%. The etiology remains unclear and different theories have been proposed to explain the pathogenesis of this tumour. Clinically, lipomas Exhibit painless, well-circumscribed nodular swelling with yellow color or covered by normal mucosa. The case report is about a large and deep-seated lipoma occuring in labiomental region in a 60-year-old-male patient causing esthetic impediment and speech problem. The lesion was removed through intra-oral approach for esthetic reason. No recurrence was reported after 3 months follow-up.

Based on Chinese and Arabic literature, this paper summarizes the spread of Laozi’s text and thought in the Arab world. The specific course of dissemination can be divided into two stages: from 1966 to 2000, the Dao De Jing was disseminated on the basis of indirect translations; from 2000 to today, the spread of the Dao De Jing in the Arab world reached a climax when the first direct translation was published. Laozi’s text and thought have gained acceptance and popularity largely because of their soothing function and similarity to the Sufi spirit found in Arab culture. The spread of Laozi’s text and thought in the Arab world presents three features: a long and friendly history of cultural exchange has served as a foundation; languages such as English and French have functioned as intermediaries; and similarities between Sufism and Daoism have provided points of connection.

Background Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women, and most breast cancer related deaths are due to metastasis. Urinary bladder metastasis from breast cancer is rarely reported in the literature. Case presentation We report a case of a 77-year-old female with history of left breast cancer, who presented a thickening of the bladder wall at pelvic ultrasound. Biopsy confirmed that the origin was lobular carcinoma of breast origin. The patient received chemotherapy, but the clinical course of the patient was very aggressive and she died one year later. Conclusion Bladder metastasis from breast cancer is rare, but the literature reveals an increase in such occurrence over the last few years. Pathologic diagnosis relies on immunohistochemical studies. Chemotherapy and hormonal treatment represent the standard therapy, with radiotherapy being used only to control bladder bleeding. The prognosis is usually poor.

Introduction: Radiation-induced malignancies are the most feared complications of radiotherapy. Depilatory radiotherapy for ringworm of the scalp in childhood was the cause of an increase in the incidence of skin tumours of the scalp in adults. The aim of our study was to describe the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic characteristics of radiation-induced skin tumours of the scalp in order to highlight the characteristics of these tumours compared to non-radiation-induced tumours. Methods: This is a bi-centric retrospective study, extending over a period of 41 years, which collected 137 patients with 200 tumours of the scalp. These patients were selected after noting a history of depilatory radiotherapy for ringworm in childhood in the clinical records of all patients with scalp tumours. We studied the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolving characteristics of this population. Results: The average age of consultation was 56·6 years. The sex ratio M/F was 3. Radiation dermatitis was found in 33% of cases. The average latency between depilatory radiotherapy and the appearance of radiation-induced tumours was 42·6 years. Multiple carcinomas (>2 tumours) were observed in 23·3% of cases. In 73% of cases, ulceration was the most frequent macroscopic aspect. The predominant histological type was basal cell carcinoma in 82% of cases. Radiation therapy has been the main treatment modality in 77·3% of cases, followed by surgery in 43% of cases. The appearance of new tumours on the scalp was observed in six patients. Conclusion: Radiation-induced tumours of the scalp are comparable in epidemiological and clinical characteristics to non-radiation-induced tumours. However, they may represent a challenge in therapeutic care and require regular monitoring.

Mycetoma, commonly known as Madura foot, is a chronic granulomatous infection caused either by fungi (eumycetoma) known as actinomycete. This disease occurs preferentially in young adults, and it affects the foot in particular. We report a Tunisian case of mycetoma occurring in an old patient, particular by its cystic presentation.

Osteonecrosis in antiphospholipid syndrome is a diagnostic challenge for clinicians. Early diagnosis and intervention are important for better prognosis.

Au lendemain de la Première Guerre mondiale s’exprime un besoin renouvelé d’expertise sur les relations internationales. En France, un très jeune historien, Pierre Renouvin, ancien combattant, engagé dans le débat avec ses homologues allemands sur les responsabilités de la guerre, se voit confier par les pouvoirs publics des fonctions institutionnelles qui lui permettent de bâtir les fondements d’un domaine universitaire, l’histoire des relations internationales, dont les racines européennes puisent dans l’ancienne histoire des traités et dans l’histoire diplomatique. Son effort est poursuivi par Jean-Baptiste Duroselle, qui débute sa carrière universitaire à l’université de la Sarre, en 1950, dans un contexte politique particulier, avant de lui succéder à la Sorbonne en 1964. Bénéficiant de l’accès à des archives inédites des deux historiens, les contributions rassemblées dans ce livre proposent, au travers de plans de coupe de leur vie professionnelle, des vues nouvelles sur la structuration du domaine, tant en France que dans des pays limitrophes (Belgique, Suisse, Italie, Espagne, Royaume-Uni), dans un dialogue fécond avec les chercheurs établis aux États-Unis. Les années 1950 ont été une décennie cruciale dans l’affermissement de l’identité de la discipline historique face à la discipline sœur de la science politique, favorisant le mûrissement de ses concepts clés. Dans une perspective comparée, le livre permet aussi de réfléchir à son essor discontinu dans d’autres pays d’Europe et au Proche-Orient.

Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA is a rare low-grade glial neoplasm of the central nervous system accounting for less than 1% of all astrocytomas. Similar to other gliomas, it can rarely arise from glial nests in the meninges, manifesting as an extra-axial mass mimicking a meningioma.In this article, we report the fourth case, so far, of a solitary primary meningeal PXA in a 23-year-old woman who presented with temporal seizures and features of raised intracranial pressure.

Sweet syndrome (SS) is an inflammatory disease with clinical and histological characteristics. SS is usually associated with important neutrophilic infiltrates on histological examination of skin biopsies. A few cases of SS with dense eosinophil infiltrate have been described. Herein, we report a new case of eosinophil-rich SS.

Isolated pancreatic tuberculosis (PT) is an extremely rare disease, with non-specific clinical characteristics, making the diagnosis often challenging with pancreatic cancers. Here we report a case of a 36-year-old female, who was admitted to our hospital after suffering from a 3-month history of epigastric abdominal pain, night sweats and weight loss. The physical examination was normal. The radiological findings revealed the presence of a pancreatic mass and multiple abdominal lymphadenopathy, suggestive of malignancy. The initial differential diagnosis suspected was pancreatic tuberculosis. Tuberculosis skin test was performed and was highly positive (>22 mm). Computed tomography (CT)-guided biopsy of peripancreatic lymph node was carried out and the histopathological exam confirmed the diagnosis of PT. Therefore, anti-tuberculous therapy was initiated, leading to clinical and radiological improvement. The diagnosis of PT is rare and can sometimes be misleading. It should be considered when a pancreatic mass is observed, especially in endemic countries, to ovoid unnecessary interventions., Highlights • Isolated pancreatic tuberculosis is an extremely rare disease, with non-specific clinical characteristics. • Clinical presentation and radiological findings of a pancreatic mass may be suggestive of malignancy. • Preoperative microbiological or/and histological diagnosis should be made to avoid the patient unnecessary surgical procedures.

Since its outbreak in December 2019, a consistent number of case reports have been published describing a complex spectrum of skin manifestations associated with COVID-19. We report a first observation of demodicidosis of the scalp after a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) infection.

Remote intracranial hemorrhage is postoperative bleeding that occurs away from the surgical site. Remote cerebellar hemorrhage (RCH) is a cerebellar hemorrhage that may occur in 0.04-0.8% of cases after supratentorial and spinal procedures. We report a case of a 73-year-old male who developed signs of increased intracranial pressure two days after the evacuation of a subdural hematoma. Brain computed tomography showed RCH with the "zebra sign" and triventricular hydrocephalus that indicated the placement of external ventricle drain in emergency. Therefore, surgeons must pay special attention to this rare postoperative complication because it can be devastating in terms of patient outcome especially due to its possible complications requiring surgical treatment.

This study investigates the asymmetric connectedness and spillover effects between two ethical fixed-income assets (Sukuk and green bonds) with regard to global risk factors using a sample of 15 Sukuk markets and green bond indices. This complex network allows us to examine the extreme risk spillover and interlinkages across green bond and Sukuk under different market conditions, captures sudden upward changes in the total and net spillover indices and hence, serves as an alerting system for any impending crisis in relation to global risk factors. Empirical results indicate a persistency feature in the connectedness between Hong Kong and Malaysian, and UK and Nigerian Sukuk markets under different market conditions. More importantly, Sukuk and green bond markets are not largely affected by global risk factors in the middle, upper and lower quantiles. Findings from the portfolio analysis show that Sukuk is effective in hedging the risks of green bonds and global factors. These results of potential diversification characteristics and risk reduction benefits are robust and hold during the Covid-19 pandemic period. Finally, our findings are of paramount importance for investors who are interested in ethical investments as well as policymakers in order to maintain a stable and sound financial system.

To compare the outcomes of the Kocher-Langenbeck reduction and fixation of the posterior structures of the acetabulum between 3D printing technique and conventional technique.Forty-three patients who sustained fractures of the posterior part of the acetabulum were randomly assigned to two groups: 3D printing (G1; n = 20) and conventional technique (G2; n = 23). The surgical time, intra-operative blood loss, differences between pre-and post-operative haemoglobin, universal functional and radiographic scores, and complications were compared between the groups. The minimum follow-up was 18 months.The average operating time (120.75 min) and intra-operative blood loss (244 ml) were lower in G1 than in G2 (125.87 min and 268.7 ml, respectively; p = 0.42, p = 0.1, respectively). The difference between the pre- and post-operative haemoglobin was 1.71 g/dl in G1 and 1.93 g/dl in G2 (p = 0.113). Post-operative complications occurred more frequently in patients in G2 (34.7%) than in patients in G1 (15%), though these differences were also not significant (p = 0.6). The radiographic result was satisfactory in 16 patients (80%) in G1 and 18 patients (78.26%) in G2 (p = 0.5). The clinical result was satisfactory in 15 patients (75%) in G1 and in 17 patients (73.9%) in G2 (p = 0.6).No significant differences were found in terms of surgical time, overall complications, and radiographic or functional outcomes between 3D printing and the conventional technique.
