Background Despite having one of the largest human resources for health in Africa, the delivery of neglected tropical disease (NTD) health interventions in Nigeria has been hampered by health worker shortages. This study assessed factors associated with job satisfaction among community drug distributors (CDDs) supporting the Nigerian NTD programme, with the goal of identifying opportunities to improve job satisfaction in support of NTD control and elimination efforts in Nigeria. Methods A health facility-based cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2019 among CDDs in two states with sharply contrasting NTD programme support, Kaduna and Ogun. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to determine the association between respondent characteristics, programme delivery modalities and job satisfaction. Results Overall, 75.3% and 74.0% of CDDs were categorised as being satisfied with their job in Kaduna and Ogun states, respectively. The component with the highest reported satisfaction was motivation, where 98.9% and 98.6% of CDDs were satisfied, in Kaduna and Ogun, respectively. Participants were least satisfied with remuneration, communication, supplies and materials, as well as workload. Location (rural/urban) and state, years of experience, who delivers training and reimbursement of transport fare during medicine distribution were significantly associated with job satisfaction. Conclusions Including multiple health staff and NTD programme cadres in CDD training and providing remuneration to cover transport fares spent during MDA delivery may improve CDDs’ job satisfaction both in Ogun and Kaduna states. Given these two states are at opposite ends of the programme support spectrum, such adaptative measures might help improve CDD job satisfaction in the wider Nigerian NTD programme context.

Quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) constitute an intriguing opportunity for the generation of on-chip optical dissipative Kerr solitons (DKSs). Originally demonstrated in passive microresonators, DKSs were recently observed in mid-infrared ring QCL paving the way for their achievement even at longer wavelengths. To this end, we realized defect-free terahertz ring QCLs featuring anomalous dispersion leveraging on a technological platform based on waveguide planarization. A concentric coupled waveguide approach is implemented for dispersion compensation, while a passive broadband bullseye antenna improves the device power extraction and far field. Comb spectra featuring sech2 envelopes are presented for free-running operation. The presence of solitons is further supported by observing the highly hysteretic behavior, measuring the phase difference between the modes, and reconstructing the intensity time profile highlighting the presence of self-starting 12-picosecond-long pulses. These observations are in very good agreement with our numeric simulations based on a Complex Ginzburg-Landau Equation (CGLE). ISSN:2375-2548

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is expressed by the majority of clinically significant prostate adenocarcinomas, and patients with target-positive disease can easily be identified by PSMA PET imaging. Promising results with PSMA-targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy have already been obtained in early-phase studies using various combinations of targeting molecules and radiolabels. Definitive evidence of the safety and efficacy of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 in combination with standard-of-care has been demonstrated in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, whose disease had progressed after or during at least one taxane regimen and at least one novel androgen-axis drug. Preliminary data suggest that 177Lu-PSMA-radioligand therapy (RLT) also has high potential in additional clinical situations. Hence, the radiopharmaceuticals [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 and [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-I&T are currently being evaluated in ongoing phase 3 trials. The purpose of this guideline is to assist nuclear medicine personnel, to select patients with highest potential to benefit from 177Lu-PSMA-RLT, to perform the procedure in accordance with current best practice, and to prepare for possible side effects and their clinical management. We also provide expert advice, to identify those clinical situations which may justify the off-label use of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 or other emerging ligands on an individual patient basis.

Intraosseous hibernoma (IOH) mimicking osseous metastasis is a rare and little-known pitfall in nuclear medicine and radiology. Referring to a clinical case, we show imaging features in FDG-PET and CT as well as pathological characteristics and discuss MRI and differential diagnoses. A 73-year-old woman was assigned for an FDG-PET/CT examination after the incidental finding of a suspicious pulmonary nodule. The FDG-PET/CT examination detected a small slightly FDG-avid pulmonary nodule suspicious for malignancy and a small slightly sclerotic lesion with mild FDG-uptake in the upper pubic bone. Histopathology revealed an intraosseous hibernoma, a rare benign soft-tissue tumor arising from brown fat. In the sparse literature available, intraosseous hibernomas may or may not be positive on bone scans. As in our case, most are slightly sclerotic on CT but lytic lesions have also been described. On MRI, they are T1 hypointense to subcutaneous fat and hyperintense to skeletal muscle; they are usually T2 hyperintense and may show peripheral contrast enhancement. According to the literature, IOHs are mostly incidental findings with solitary lesions in the spine, pelvis, ribs, or, very rarely, in the extremities with low to moderately increased glucose metabolism. IOHs present as painless tumors in general; a few painful cases could be successfully treated with radiofrequency ablation or surgery. Differential diagnoses include metastases, lymphoma, fibrous dysplasia, and non-ossifying fibroma among others. Intraosseous hibernoma is a rare benign tumor that can mimic metastases in FDG-PET, CT, bone scan, and MRI. IOHs might be indistinguishable from metastases or malignant lesions, which makes a biopsy or follow-up mandatory in clinically relevant cases. Given the benign nature of IOHs, radiofrequency ablation or surgery is only an option in symptomatic cases.

Purpose This study aims to advance theory on business in conflict zones (often termed “business for peace”) so as to enable the categorization of empirical work testing the field’s assertions. Design/methodology/approach In this conceptual paper, the authors present an assessment framework for categorizing research on the peace impacts of business entities, as suggested by Oetzel et al. (2009). This framework allows researchers to make comparisons across methodologies and fields on whether particular business actions contribute to peace. Findings Drawing on peace and conflict research, this study proposes a three-stage process in response to the presence of violence and its level of intensity, identify applicable research methods to assess the impact of business actions on peace at each of the three stages and offer suggestions for future research. Social implications Categorizing research impacts in the business for peace field will allow societal actors to evaluate the efficacy of claimed business for peace efforts. This is particularly true for those in within international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who work with the private sector and for those in the private sector whose work attempts to enhance peace. Originality/value As a societal actor, business has a key role to play in peacemaking. The past decade has seen a proliferation of qualitative research work surrounding this theme. In a seminal work, Oetzel et al. (2009) suggested a research framework building on the theories of Fort and Schipani (2004) and suggested five actions that businesses could take to promote peace. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper is the first one to respond to that suggestion by proposing a means of categorizing the impacts of business actions.

The efficacy and safety of biologic treatments for children and adolescents with moderate to severe psoriasis should be examined over a considerable time period and in different subgroups.We report the efficacy and safety of secukinumab low dose (LD) and high dose (HD) regimens in pediatric patients with moderate to severe psoriasis for up to Week 52.This was a randomized, open-label, parallel-group, multicenter study in patients aged 6 to 18 years. Patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive LD (75/75/150 mg; N = 42) or HD (75/150/300 mg; N = 42) subcutaneous secukinumab. At randomization, patients were stratified by weight ( 25, 25 to 50, ≥ 50 kg) and disease severity (moderate/severe). The study is ongoing; the present analysis included data up to Week 52 collected from August 29, 2018 (first patient first visit) to May 28, 2020 (last patient last visit for Week 52). Efficacy was measured using Investigator's Global Assessment modified 2011 0/1 (IGA 0/1) and Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) 75/90/100 response. Safety outcomes included assessment of adverse events.Of the 84 enrolled patients, 78 (92.9%) completed 52 weeks of treatment. Overall, response rates for PASI 75 and IGA 0/1 were similar between the LD (92.8/88.9%) and HD (93.3/84.7%) groups at Week 52. In the LD and HD groups, PASI 90/100 responses at Week 52 were 78.7/53.5% and 84.7/70.0%, respectively. The proportions of IGA 0/1 and PASI 75/90 responders were comparable for the age, body weight, and disease severity subgroups in the secukinumab LD and HD groups. Mean absolute PASI change from baseline at week 52 was - 17.3 ± standard deviation 5.0 and - 18.2 ± 7.0, a percentage change of - 94.3 and - 94.5% for the LD and HD groups, respectively. More than 70% of evaluable patients achieved Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index 0/1 at Week 52 (LD 70.7%; HD 70.3%). The safety profile was consistent with that in adults, with no new safety signals for either secukinumab dosing regimen.A high proportion of pediatric patients with psoriasis responded to both dosing regimens of secukinumab and maintained clinical responses through 52 weeks of treatment. No clinical difference was observed in the efficacy of secukinumab across the pediatric subgroups. Frequency-modulated (FM) combs feature flat intensity spectra with a linear frequency chirp, useful for metrology and sensing applications. Generating FM combs in semiconductor lasers generally requires a fast saturable gain, usually limited by the intrinsic gain medium properties. Here, we show how a spatial modulation of the laser gain medium can enhance the gain saturation dynamics and nonlinearities to generate self-starting FM combs. We demonstrate this with tapered planarized THz quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). While simple ridge THz QCLs typically generate combs which are a mixture of amplitude and frequency modulation, the on-chip field enhancement resulting from extreme spatial confinement leads to an ultrafast saturable gain regime, generating a pure FM comb with a flatter intensity spectrum, a clear linear frequency chirp and very intense beatnotes up to -30 dBm. The observed linear frequency chirp is reproduced using a spatially inhomogeneous mean-field theory model which confirms the crucial role of field enhancement. In addition, the modified spatial temperature distribution within the waveguide results in an improved hightemperature comb operation, up to a heat sink temperature of 115 K, with comb bandwidths of 600 GHz at 90 K. We consider a heterogeneous network of quantum computing modules, sparsely connected via Bell states. Operations across these connections constitute a computational bottleneck and they are likely to add more noise to the computation than operations performed within a module. We introduce several techniques for transforming a given quantum circuit into one implementable on a network of the aforementioned type, minimising the number of Bell states required to do so. We extend previous works on circuit distribution over fully connected networks to the case of heterogeneous networks. On the one hand, we extend the hypergraph approach of [Andres-Martinez & Heunen. 2019] to arbitrary network topologies. We additionally make use of Steiner trees to find efficient realisations of the entanglement sharing within the network, reusing already established connections as often as possible. On the other hand, we extend the embedding techniques of [Wu, et al. 2022] to networks with more than two modules. Furthermore, we discuss how these two seemingly incompatible approaches can be made to cooperate. In recent years, optical frequency combs with a frequency modulated output have attracted considerable attention. While first observed decades ago in externally modulated lasers, a whole class of semiconductor lasers has since been identified to spontaneously enter such a regime of self frequency modulation. The temporal properties of these sources are commonly measured indirectly via phase-resolved frequency domain measurements. In this work, they demonstrate an asynchronous optical sampling technique which operates directly in time domain.. On the basis of a mid-infrared quantum cascade laser frequency comb, both its instantaneous intensity and optical frequency are measured. The results confirm a quasi-constant intensity output alongside a close to linear frequency chirp, in accordance with phase-resolved spectral measurements. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) supported (10 wt.%) nickel catalysts were evaluated for the hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA) to γ-valerolactone (GVL) using a trickle-bed reactor at 180 °C and 30 bar. The effect of nature of the nickel precursors salts (NiNIT- Ni(NO3)2.6H2O, NiACET- Ni(CH3COO)2.4H2O) and NiHYD- Ni(OH)2) and the preparation method on the distribution of Ni particles inside (CNTIN) and outside (CNTOUT) of the carbon nanotubes were investigated. The nickel catalysts were synthesized by incipient wetness impregnation method without opening or functionalization of CNTs. The difference between the preparation of Ni/CNTIN and Ni/CNTOUT catalysts was the pre-filling of the pores of the CNT with p-xylene before the impregnation of the nickel salts for the Ni/CNTOUT samples. These methodologies led to the complete deposition of Ni particles outside of pores for Ni/CNTOUT samples, but partial deposition of Ni particles inside of CNTs for Ni/CNTIN samples, regardless of the nickel precursor salt. It was estimated by TEM only 30 % of Ni particles inside CNTs for NiNIT/CNTIN. The Ni/CNTOUT catalysts prepared from nickel nitrate and nickel hydroxide salts showed the highest activity for LA hydrogenation, compared to those prepared from nickel acetate salts, which is likely due to the higher metal dispersion.

In noisy intermediate-scale quantum computing, the limited scalability of a single quantum processing unit (QPU) can be extended through distributed quantum computing (DQC), in which one can implement global operations over two QPUs by entanglement-assisted local operations and classical communication. To facilitate this type of DQC in experiments, we need an entanglement-efficient protocol. To this end, we extend the gate teleportation protocol implementing each controlled-unitary gate with one maximally entangled pair [Eisert et. al., PRA, 62:052317(2000)] to a packing protocol, which can pack multiple controlled-unitary gates locally using one maximally entangled pair. In particular, two types of packing processes are introduced as the building blocks, namely the distributing processes and embedding processes. Each distributing process distributes corresponding gates locally with one entangled pair. The efficiency of entanglement is then enhanced by embedding processes, which merge two non-sequential distributing processes and hence save the entanglement cost. We show that the structure of distributability and embeddability of a quantum circuit can be fully represented by the corresponding packing graphs and conflict graphs. Based on these graphs, we derive heuristic algorithms for finding an entanglement-efficient packing of distributing processes for a given quantum circuit to be implemented by two parties. These algorithms can determine the required number of local auxiliary qubits in the DQC. We apply these algorithms for bipartite DQC of unitary coupled-cluster circuits and find a significant reduction of entanglement cost through embeddings. We study the performance of an hot-electron bolometer (HEB) operating at THz frequencies based on superconducting niobium nitride films. We report on the voltage response of the detector over a large optical bandwidth carried out with different THz sources. We show that the impulse response of the fully packaged HEB at 7.5 K has a 3 dB cut-off around 2 GHz. Remarkably, detection capability is still observed above 30 GHz in an heterodyne beating experiment using a THz quantum cascade laser frequency comb. Additionally, the HEB sensitivity has been evaluated and an optical noise equivalent power NEP of 0.8 pW/sqrt(Hz) has been measured at 1 MHz.

We present a new planarized waveguide geometry for THz quantum cascade laser frequency combs with improved waveguide losses, RF and thermal dissipation properties. Ridge devices display broadband free-running comb states, and the THz emission can be further broadened by RF injection. Tapered waveguide devices feature a strong field-enhancement effect, which results in an improved comb performance. This includes free-running comb states with strong single beatnotes up to nearly -30 dBm at 90 K, almost three orders of magnitude stronger than for ridge devices. Ti interstitials play a key role in the surface chemistry of TiO

Dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) concentration distributions in the global surface ocean inform our understanding of marine biogeochemical processes such as nitrogen fixation and primary production. The spatial distribution of DOP concentrations in the surface ocean reflect production by primary producers and consumption as an organic nutrient by phytoplankton including diazotrophs and other microbes, as well as other loss processes such as photolysis. Compared to dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen, however, relatively few marine DOP concentration measurements have been made, largely due to the lack of automated analysis techniques. Here we present a database of marine DOP concentration measurements (DOPv2021) that includes new (n = 730) and previously published (n = 3140) observations made over the last ~30 years (1990–2021), including 1751 observations in the upper 50 m. This dataset encompasses observations from all major ocean basins including the poorly represented Indian, South Pacific, and Southern Oceans and provides insight into spatial distributions of DOP in the ocean. It is also valuable for researchers who work on marine primary production and nitrogen fixation.

Crystal phase engineering gives access to new types of periodic nanostructures, such as the so-called twinning superlattices, where the motif of the superlattice is determined by a periodic rotation of the crystal. Here, by means of atomistic nonequilibrium molecular dynamics calculations, we study to what extent these periodic systems can be used to alter phonon transport in a controlled way, similar to what has been predicted and observed in conventional superlattices based on heterointerfaces. We focus on twinning superlattices in GaAs and InAs and highlight the existence of two different transport regimes: in one, each interface behaves like an independent scatterer; in the other, a segment with a sufficiently large number of closely spaced interfaces is seen by propagating phonons as a metamaterial with its own thermal properties. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are very efficient at classifying graphs but their internal functioning is opaque which limits their field of application. Existing methods to explain GNN focus on disclosing the relationships between input graphs and model decision. In this article, we propose a method that goes further and isolates the internal features, hidden in the network layers, that are automatically identified by the GNN and used in the decision process. We show that this method makes possible to know the parts of the input graphs used by GNN with much less bias that SOTA methods and thus to bring confidence in the decision process.

The adaptive immune system in vertebrates comes in two flavors. Historically, adaptive immunity focused on the study of immunoglobulins (also referred to as Ig-based antibodies herein); more recently, jawless vertebrates were found to use an entirely different class of proteins for their adaptive immunesystem. Specifically, these organisms express variable lymphocyte receptors (so called VLR antibodies) that create diversity based on the rearrangement of leucine-rich repeats. Meanwhile, various, naturally occurring repeat motifs have been used as building blocks for the design of artificial binding scaffolds which, among others, include designed ankyrin repeat proteins (DARPins). Such binding scaffolds are also referred to as non-Ig-based antibodies or non-Ig scaffolds herein). DARPins display several benefits such as a low molecular weight (~15 kDa), high thermal stability, high specificity and affinity, versatility (e.g., in terms of valency and multi-specificity), speedy preclinical development, low production costs and, thus, bear the potential to not only complement existing therapeutic Ig-based antibodies but also open up novel therapeutic strategies. The first generation DARPin therapeutic abicipar pegol has completed two Phase III studies in 2020 while several other DARPin drug candidates are currently undergoing clinical validation. Most recently, the rapid development of tri-specific SARSCoV-2 DARPin therapeutics showcases the immense potential of recombinant repeat proteins in adopting quickly e.g., new forms of target neutralization that a single Ig-based antibody cannot afford. Here, we highlight the design principles of repeat proteins in general and summarize in detail the continuous advancements of the DARPin scaffold that made it one of the most promising antibody mimetics to date.
