Background: Sexual function is an important concern for adolescent and young adult (AYA) with cancer. The aim of this study was to explore the attitude of Italian health care professionals who deal with AYA patients with cancer toward sexual health communication. Materials and methods: A 11-question survey was developed by the AIOM (Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Medica) and AIEOP (Associazione Italiana Ematologia Oncologia Pediatrica) AYA workgroup and sent to AIOM and AIEOP members. Results: The sample comprised 360 respondents, 54.2% AIEOP and 45.8% AIOM members. Eighty percent were physicians, 14.5% nurses, 4.7% psychologists, and 0.8% other professionals. Medical oncologists are more used to investigate about AYA sexual health than pediatric oncologists (58.2% vs. 46.2%), even if pediatrics more frequently refer patients to specific and shared protocol (40% vs. 26.1%). Both AIOM and AIEOP participants mostly talk about sexual health only on request or occasionally (78.8% and 79%, respectively). Clinician-reported barriers to communication identified in this study are lack of preparation and embarrassment for both the categories, plus the presence/interference of parents for pediatrics and lack of time for medical oncologists. Overall, less than 5% of clinicians in our survey received specific training on potential sexual health issues in AYA patients with cancer and only 2% felt adequately prepared to speak about it. Conclusion: Sexual health is a key component of comprehensive care for AYA with cancer during treatments. This study highlighted the need of Italian providers for specific training and guidelines on sex-related health issues encountered by AYA patients.

Janus transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers are artificial materials, where one plane of chalcogen atoms is replaced by chalcogen atoms of a different type. Theory predicts an in-built out-of-plane electric field, giving rise to long-lived, dipolar excitons, while preserving direct-bandgap optical transitions in a uniform potential landscape. Previous Janus studies had broad photoluminescence (>18 meV) spectra obfuscating their specific excitonic origin. Here, we identify the neutral and the negatively charged inter- and intravalley exciton transitions in Janus WSeS monolayers with ∼6 meV optical line widths. We integrate Janus monolayers into vertical heterostructures, allowing doping control. Magneto-optic measurements indicate that monolayer WSeS has a direct bandgap at the K points. Our results pave the way for applications such as nanoscale sensing, which relies on resolving excitonic energy shifts, and the development of Janus-based optoelectronic devices, which requires charge-state control and integration into vertical heterostructures.

Mode locking, the self-starting synchronous oscillation of electromagnetic modes in a laser cavity, is the primary way to generate ultrashort light pulses. In random lasers, without a cavity, mode-locking, the nonlinear coupling amongst low spatially coherent random modes, can be activated via optical pumping, even without the emission of short pulses. Here, by exploiting the combination of the inherently giant third-order χ(3) nonlinearity of semiconductor heterostructure lasers and the nonlinear properties of graphene, the authors demonstrate mode-locking in surface-emitting electrically pumped random quantum cascade lasers at terahertz frequencies. This is achieved by either lithographically patterning a multilayer graphene film to define a surface random pattern of light scatterers, or by coupling on chip a saturable absorber graphene reflector. Intermode beatnote mapping unveils self-induced phase-coherence between naturally incoherent random modes. Self-mixing intermode spectroscopy reveals phase-locked random modes. This is an important milestone in the physics of disordered systems. It paves the way to the development of a new generation of miniaturized, electrically pumped mode-locked light sources, ideal for broadband spectroscopy, multicolor speckle-free imaging applications, and reservoir quantum computing.

Robust spin-photon interfaces in solids are essential components in quantum networking and sensing technologies. Ideally, these interfaces combine a long-lived spin memory, coherent optical transitions, fast and high-fidelity spin manipulation, and straightforward device integration and scaling. The tin-vacancy center (SnV) in diamond is a promising spin-photon interface with desirable optical and spin properties at 1.7 K. However, the SnV spin lacks efficient microwave control and its spin coherence degrades with higher temperature. In this work, we introduce a new platform that overcomes these challenges - SnV centers in uniformly strained thin diamond membranes. The controlled generation of crystal strain introduces orbital mixing that allows microwave control of the spin state with 99.36(9) % gate fidelity and spin coherence protection beyond a millisecond. Moreover, the presence of crystal strain suppresses temperature dependent dephasing processes, leading to a considerable improvement of the coherence time up to 223(10) ${\mu}$s at 4 K, a widely accessible temperature in common cryogenic systems. Critically, the coherence of optical transitions is unaffected by the elevated temperature, exhibiting nearly lifetime-limited optical linewidths. Combined with the compatibility of diamond membranes with device integration, the demonstrated platform is an ideal spin-photon interface for future quantum technologies.

Resumo Partindo da pergunta “Como tem sido ser mulher e mãe em tempos de pandemia?”, o presente estudo convidou mulheres que são mães, em redes sociais virtuais, a partilhar um relato de suas experiências com a readaptação parental em função do distanciamento social causado pela pandemia de covid-19. O objetivo foi refletir sobre a experiência de ser mulher e mãe em tempos de covid-19 e distanciamento social, apontando algumas ressonâncias do cenário pandêmico na subjetividade dessas mulheres. O estudo teve como base o referencial psicanalítico, tanto na construção da pesquisa e análise dos relatos quanto na sua discussão. A análise dos cerca de 340 relatos coletados, os quais variaram de uma breve frase a longos parágrafos, apontou para uma série de questionamentos, pontos de análise e reflexões. A pandemia, e o decorrente distanciamento social, parece ter colocado uma lente de aumento sobre as angústias das mulheres que são mães, evidenciando sentimentos e sofrimentos sempre presentes. Destacaram-se, nos relatos, a sobrecarga das mulheres com as tarefas de cuidado dos filhos e da casa, a culpa, a solidão, a exaustão, e o sentimento de que não havia espaço nesse contexto para “ser mulher”, sendo isso entendido especialmente a questões estéticas e de vaidade. Abstract Starting from the question “How does it feel to be a woman and a mother in pandemic times?”, this study invited women who are mothers, in virtual social networks, to share their experiences regarding parental adaptations due to social distancing caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective was to reflect on the experience of being a woman and a mother in the context of COVID-19 and of social distancing, pointing out some resonances of the pandemic scenario in the subjectivity of these women. The study was based on the psychoanalytical framework, both in the construction of the research and analysis of the reports and in their discussion. The analysis of about 340 collected reports, which ranged from a brief sentence to long paragraphs, pointed to a series of questions, analysis topics, and reflections. The pandemic, and the resulting social distancing, seems to have placed a magnifying glass over the anguish of women who are mothers, showing ever-present feelings and suffering. The reports highlighted women’s overload with child and house care tasks, the guilt, loneliness, exhaustion, and the feeling that there was no space in this context to “be a woman,” and it extends to aesthetic and vanity related questions especially. Resumen A partir de la pregunta “¿cómo te sientes siendo mujer y madre en tiempos de pandemia?”, este estudio invitó por las redes sociales a mujeres que son madres a compartir un relato de sus experiencias sobre la readaptación parental en función del distanciamiento social causado por la pandemia del covid-19. Su objetivo fue reflexionar sobre la experiencia de ser mujer y madre en tiempos del covid-19 y el distanciamiento social, señalando algunas resonancias del escenario pandémico en la subjetividad de estas mujeres. Este estudio se basó en el marco psicoanalítico, tanto en la construcción de la investigación y análisis de los informes como en su discusión. El análisis de los casi 340 relatos, que variaron de una pequeña frase a largos párrafos, generó en las investigadoras una serie de cuestionamientos y reflexiones. La pandemia y el consecuente distanciamiento social parece haber agrandado las angustias de las mujeres que son madres, evidenciando sentimientos y sufrimientos siempre presentes. En los relatos destacan la sobrecarga de las mujeres con las tareas de cuidado de los hijos y del hogar, la culpa, la soledad, el cansancio, así como el sentimiento de que no hay espacio em este contexto para “ser mujer”, relacionado principalmente a cuestiones estéticas y de vanidad.

Industry 4.0 technologies, originally developed in the manufacturing sector, can be purposefully implemented to improve City Logistics (CL) processes by automatizing some of their operational tasks and enabling real-time exchange of information, with the ultimate goal of providing better interconnection among the actors involved. This work aims to identify the main social and economic contextual drivers for investing in the application of Industry 4.0 technologies to urban logistics. To this end, a dataset based on the primary collection of 105 CL projects exploiting the main 4.0 technologies has been built. After that, a regression model has been completed including potential economic, strategic, and demographic determinants of investments in CL 4.0. According to the obtained outcomes, Gross Domestic Product, Foreign Direct Investments, Research and Development Expenditure, Employment Rate, and Number of Inhabitants are significant contextual factors for the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in last mile logistics. The study might support academicians to investigate novel application fields of Industry 4.0 technologies. Also, it can serve as a roadmap for orienting the investments of private organizations and public entities to promote CL innovation and digitalization. Moreover, Industry 4.0 technology providers might find this study interesting to uncover prospective business sectors and markets. Future research efforts will analyse the impacts of internal business factors on CL 4.0 and the satisfaction levels of urban logistics stakeholders.

We consider 3d $\mathcal{N} = 4$ theories on the geometry $\Sigma\times\mathbb{R}$, where $\Sigma$ is a closed and connected Riemann surface, from the point of view of a quantum mechanics on $\mathbb{R}$. Focussing on the elementary mirror pair in the presence of real deformation parameters, namely SQED with one hypermultiplet (SQED[1]) and the free hypermulitplet, we study the algebras of local operators in the respective quantum mechanics as well as their action on the vector space of supersymmetric ground states. We demonstrate that the algebras can be described in terms of Heisenberg algebras, and that they act in a way reminiscent of Segal-Bargmann (B-twist of the free hypermultiplet) and Nakajima (A-twist of SQED[1]) operators., Comment: Scipost version. We study generalized global symmetries and their 't Hooft anomalies in 3d N=4 superconformal field theories (SCFTs). Following some general considerations, we focus on good quiver gauge theories, comprised of balanced unitary nodes and unbalanced unitary and special unitary nodes. While the global form of the Higgs branch symmetry group may be determined from the UV Lagrangian, the global form of Coulomb branch symmetry groups and associated mixed 't Hooft anomalies are more subtle due to potential symmetry enhancement in the IR. We describe how Coulomb branch symmetry groups and their mixed 't Hooft anomalies can be deduced from the UV Lagrangian by studying center charges of various types of monopole operators, providing a concrete and unambiguous way to implement 't Hooft anomaly matching. The final expression for the symmetry group and 't Hooft anomalies has a concise form that can be easily read off from the quiver data, specifically from the positions of the unbalanced and flavor nodes with respect to the positions of the balanced nodes. We provide consistency checks by applying our method to compute symmetry groups of 3d N=4 theories corresponding to magnetic quivers of 4d Class S theories and 5d SCFTs. We are able to match these results against the flavor symmetry groups of the 4d and 5d theories computed using independent methods. Poster from Plasmonica 2018 conference Nano-antennas have the unique ability to channel far-field radiation to sub-wavelength dimensions. The resulting strongly confined and enhanced electromagnetic fields boost nonlinear optical effects at the nanoscale. For this purpose, we introduce coherent two-dimensional (2D) micro-spectroscopy which probes the nonlinear optical response of the nano-antennas with sub-micron spatial resolution. An LCD-based pulse shaper in 4f geometry is used to create collinear trains of 12-fs visible/NIR laser pulses in the focus of a numerical aperture of a 1.4 immersion-oil microscope objective. We motivate this new method for getting nonlinear third-order information of the ultrafast dynamics of plasmon propagation via phase cycling, e.g., for the local spatial investigation of the strong coupling between a transition metal dichalcogen-ide (TMD) monolayers and a nano-antenna on top of it.

Background: Margin status following surgery in children, adolescents, and young adults with soft tissue sarcomas is controversial and has been defined differently by various specialties, with definitions changing over time and by cooperative group. The International Soft Tissue Sarcoma Consortium (INSTRuCT) is a collaboration of the Children's Oncology Group (COG) Soft Tissue Sarcoma Committee, European pediatric Soft Tissue sarcoma Study Group (EpSSG), and the European Cooperative Weichteilsarkom Studiengruppe (CWS) devoted to improving patient outcomes by pooling and mining cooperative group clinical trial data. Methods: The INSTRuCT non-rhabdomyosarcoma soft tissue sarcoma (NRSTS) working group aimed to develop international harmonized recommendations regarding surgical margin assessment and definitions in children and adolescents with soft tissue tumors. Results and Conclusion: This review addresses accepted principles and areas of controversy, including the perspectives of surgeons, pathologists, radiation oncologists, and pediatric oncologists, to develop a framework for building common guidelines for future research. in press

Germline predisposing pathogenic variants (GPVs) are present in approximately 8 to 10% of children with all cancer types. Very rare tumours (VRTs) represent many different diseases, defined with an annual incidence < 2 / 1,000,000, and correspond to 11% of all cancers in patients aged 0-14 years. Some of these VRTs, including cancer typical for adults, develop in children with a cancer predisposition syndrome (CPS). Classically, three situations lead to consider this association: Some patients develop a VRT for which histology itself strongly suggests a GPV related to a CPS; others are referred for germline genetic testing because of a family or personal history and finally, a systematic molecular genomic tumour analysis, reveals a PV typical to a CPS. Depending on the samples tested and type of analysis performed, information can be directly available about the germline status of such a PV. Depicting the association between CPS and VRT is clinically important as some of these tumour types require adapted therapy, sometimes in the frontline setting, and the proposal of a specific surveillance programme to detect other malignancies. The diagnosis of CPS necessitates a careful familial evaluation and genetic counselling regarding the risks faced by the child or other family members. The aim of this paper is to propose a literature review of solid VRTs occurring in paediatric and young adult patients associated with CPSs.

We study the boundary vertex algebras of $A$-twisted $\mathcal{N}=4$ Abelian gauge theories in three dimensions. These are identified with the BRST quotient (semi-infinite cohomology) of collections of symplectic bosons and free fermions that reflect the matter content of the corresponding gauge theory. We develop various free field realisations for these vertex algebras which we propose to interpret in terms of their localisation on their associated varieties. We derive the free field realisations by bosonising the elementary symplectic bosons and free fermions and then calculating the relevant semi-infinite cohomology, which can be done systematically. An interesting feature of our construction is that for certain preferred free field realisations, the outer automorphism symmetry of the vertex algebras in question (which are identified with the symmetries of the Coulomb branch in the infrared) are made manifest., Comment: 54 pages + appendices

The ability to tune the optical response of a material via electrostatic gating is crucial for optoelectronic applications, such as electro-optic modulators, saturable absorbers, optical limiters, photodetectors and transparent electrodes. The band structure of single layer graphene (SLG), with zero-gap, linearly dispersive conduction and valence bands, enables an easy control of the Fermi energy E$_F$ and of the threshold for interband optical absorption. Here, we report the tunability of the SLG non-equilibrium optical response in the near-infrared (1000-1700nm/0.729-1.240eV), exploring a range of E$_F$ from -650 to 250 meV by ionic liquid gating. As E$_F$ increases from the Dirac point to the threshold for Pauli blocking of interband absorption, we observe a slow-down of the photobleaching relaxation dynamics, which we attribute to the quenching of optical phonon emission from photoexcited charge carriers. For E$_F$ exceeding the Pauli blocking threshold, photobleaching eventually turns into photoinduced absorption, due to hot electrons' excitation increasing SLG absorption. The ability to control both recovery time and sign of nonequilibrium optical response by electrostatic gating makes SLG ideal for tunable saturable absorbers with controlled dynamics., Comment: 6 figures

NRSTS form a very mixed group of mesenchymal extraskeletal malignancies. Their rarity, heterogeneity, and aggressiveness make the management of children and adolescents with these tumors complex and challenging. The overall cure rate for patients with NRSTS is around 70%, but survival depends on several prognostic variables, such as histotype and tumor grade, extent of disease and stage, tumor size, and tumor site. While surgery remains the mainstay of treatment for most of these tumors, a multimodal therapeutic approach including radiotherapy and chemotherapy is required in many cases. The EpSSG NRSTS 2005 study was the first prospective protocol tailored specifically to NRSTS. Together with the ARST0332 study developed by the North-American Soft Tissue Sarcoma Committee of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the EpSSG NRSTS 2005 study currently represents the benchmark for these tumors, establishing risk-adapted standards of care. The EpSSG has developed common treatment recommendations for the large group of adult-type NRSTS (including synovial sarcoma), and specific treatment recommendations for other particular adult-type histologies (ie, alveolar soft-part sarcoma, clear cell sarcoma and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans); other highly malignant tumors with a biology and clinical behavior differing from those of adult-type NRSTS (ie, rhabdoid tumors and desmoplastic small round cell tumor); and soft tissue tumors of intermediate malignancy (ie desmoid-type fibromatosis, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors, and infantile fibrosarcoma). New effective drugs are needed for patients whose NRSTS carries the worst prognosis, ie, those with unresectable tumors, metastases at diagnosis, or relapsing disease. This article is an appendix to a research-extension project developed by the Nucleus of Studies in Psychoanalysis and Infancies with municipal nurseries from Porto Alegre. Based on this experience, we decided to investigate the education care work developed in kindergarten institutions and also how social markers such as gender, race and class can mark this profession in Brazil. For this purpose, we have done a brief historical summary of the constitution of the European and Brazilian kindergartens through a narrative revision of literature; furthermore, we have selected a few excerpts from clinicals diaries – registration materials adopted by the ones involved in the research-extension project – which relate with our investigation. Throughout that process, it has been shown the significance of considering the work done by nursery educators as a confluence of historical and social aspects and an intersectional panorama, permeated by gender, race, class and devaluation processes of diverse natures. Este escrito es un despliegue de un proyecto de investigación-extensión desarrollado por el Núcleo de Estudios en Psicoanálisis y Infancias con guarderías del Município de Porto Alegre. A partir de esta experiencia, surge especial interés sobre el trabajo de cuidado-educación desarrollado en las instituciones de educación infantil y algunas intersecciones entre género, raza y clase que marcan esta profesión en Brasil. Por este motivo y a través de una revisión narrativa de literatura, presentamos una breve revisión histórica sobre el surgimiento de la educación infantil en los contextos europeo y brasileño y seleccionamos fragmentos de diarios clínicos – materiales de registro adoptados por las investigadoras-extensionistas – los cuales tienen relación con los asuntos discutidos. A partir de este proceso de redacción, se hace evidente la importancia de considerar el trabajo de las educadoras de guardería como una confluenciade aspectos históricos y sociales, así como también un panorama interseccional permeado por cruces de género, raza y clase y por procesos de desvalorización de diversos tipos. Este escrito é um desdobramento de um projeto de pesquisa-extensão desenvolvido pelo Núcleo de Estudos em Psicanálise e Infâncias (NEPIs) junto a berçários de escolas de educação infantil municipais e conveniadas de Porto Alegre. A partir dessa experiência, tomamos como questão o trabalho de educação-cuidado desenvolvido nas instituições de educação infantil e alguns atravessamentos de gênero, raça e classe que marcam essa profissão no Brasil. Para tanto, por meio de uma revisão narrativa de literatura, traçamos uma breve retomada histórica acerca da constituição da educação infantil nos contextos europeu e brasileiro e apresentamos trechos dos diários clínicos – materiais de registro adotados pelas pesquisadoras –extensionistas – que se articulam às questões discutidas. A partir desse processo de escrita, mostrou-se evidente a importância de considerar o trabalho das educadoras das escolas de educação infantil como uma confluência de aspectos históricos e sociais e como um panorama interseccional, permeado por atravessamentos de gênero, raça e classe, e por processos de desvalorização de diversas ordens.&nbsp

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the global categorical symmetries that arise when gauging finite higher groups in three or more dimensions. The motivation is to provide a common perspective on constructions of non-invertible global symmetries in higher dimensions and a precise description of the associated symmetry categories. This paper focusses on gauging finite groups and split 2-groups in three dimensions. In addition to topological Wilson lines, we show that this generates a rich spectrum of topological surface defects labelled by 2-representations and explain their connection to condensation defects for Wilson lines. We derive various properties of the topological defects and show that the associated symmetry category is the fusion 2-category of 2-representations. This allows us to determine the full symmetry categories of certain gauge theories with disconnected gauge groups. O artigo parte da experiência em uma oficina de contação de histórias dirigida a crianças que apresentam impasses em sua constituição subjetiva e com entraves orgânicos. A partir disso, teve-se como objetivo refletir sobre os movimentos em oficina, mais especificamente o jogo de posições que se ensaia entre crianças e contadoras, e aproximá-los ao brincar na infância e aos jogos constitutivos do sujeito. Sugere-se que essa intervenção aciona trânsitos no processo constitutivo, a partir do contato com a trama das histórias e da sustentação em cena das contadoras que acolhem os elementos trazidos pelas crianças. Por fim, reconhece-se a importância, neste trabalho, de legitimar e acolher as diversas formas de comunicação, conferindo às crianças o lugar de sujeitos desejantes, ativas nas histórias e em seu processo de subjetivação. L’article part de l’expérience dans un atelier de raconte des histoires dirigé aux enfants qui portent des impasses dans sa constitution subjective et des troubles organiques. L’objectif c’est de réflechir à propos des mouvements aux espaces d’ateliers, spécifiquement l’enjeu des positions entre les enfants et les conteuses en l’approchant au jouer de l’enfance et aux jeux constitutifs du sujet. Nous suggérons que cette intervention déclanche des transits au processus constitutif des enfants à partir du contact entre la tessiture des histoires et la soutenance, en scène, des éléments apportés par les enfants et accueillis par des conteuses. Finalement, nous reconnaissons l’importance de légitimer et accueillir les plusieurs formes de communication, tout en conférant aux enfants la place d’un sujet désirant, actifs dans les histoires et dans son processus de subjectivation. . El artículo surge de la experiencia en un taller de cuentacuentos para niños que presentan dificultades en su proceso de subjetivación y obstáculos orgánicos. Así, se tuvo como objetivo reflexionar sobre los movimientos, especialmente el juego de posiciones que se ensaya entre niños y talleristas y aproximar a los niños al jugar infantil y a los juegos constitutivos del sujeto. Sugerimos que esta intervención acciona tránsitos en el proceso constitutivo a partir del contacto con el entramado de la historia y del sostenimiento de las talleristas que acogen los elementos que traen los niños. Por fin, reconocemos en esta experiencia la importancia de legitimar y acoger las diversas formas de comunicación, dando a los niños el lugar de sujetos deseantes, activos en las historias y en su proceso de subjetivación. This article emerges from the experience in a storytelling workshop directed at children that have subjectivity impasses and organic obstacles. Thus, it had the goal to reflect about the workshop movements, especially the position game between the children and the storytellers, these movements intent to approximate childhood playing to the subject constitucion game. It suggests that this intervention engages the track of the constitution of the subject in those childhoods, by gathering the contact with the storyline and the work of hold in the scene done by the storytellers who host the elements bringed by the children. In conclusion, this work recognises the importance of legitimizing and embracing different forms of communication, in order to give the children an active role in the storys and in their own subjectivity process.

Interlayer excitons in layered materials constitute a novel platform to study many-body phenomena arising from long-range interactions between quantum particles. Long-lived excitons are required to achieve high particle densities, to mediate thermalisation, and to allow for spatially and temporally correlated phases. Additionally, the ability to confine them in periodic arrays is key to building a solid-state analogue to atoms in optical lattices. Here, we demonstrate interlayer excitons with lifetime approaching 0.2 ms in a layered-material heterostructure made from WS2 and WSe2 monolayers. We show that interlayer excitons can be localised in an array using a nano-patterned substrate. These confined excitons exhibit microsecond-lifetime, enhanced emission rate, and optical selection rules inherited from the host material. The combination of a permanent dipole, deterministic spatial confinement and long lifetime places interlayer excitons in a regime that satisfies one of the requirements for simulating quantum Ising models in optically resolvable lattices.

The generation of stable trains of ultra-short (fs-ps), terahertz (THz)-frequency radiation pulses, with large instantaneous intensities, is an underpinning requirement for the investigation of light-matter interactions, for metrology and for ultra-high-speed communications. In solid-state electrically-pumped lasers, the primary route for generating short pulses is through passive mode-locking. However, this has not yet been achieved in the THz range, defining one of the longest standing goals over the last two decades. In fact, the realization of passive mode-locking has long been assumed to be inherently hindered by the fast recovery times associated with the intersubband gain of THz lasers. Here, we demonstrate a self-starting miniaturized ultra-short pulse THz laser, exploiting an original device architecture that includes the surface patterning of multilayer-graphene saturable absorbers distributed along the entire cavity of a double-metal semiconductor 2.30-3.55 THz wire laser. In this paper we continue our investigation of the global categorical symmetries that arise when gauging finite higher groups and their higher subgroups with discrete torsion. The motivation is to provide a common perspective on the construction of non-invertible global symmetries in higher dimensions and a precise description of the associated symmetry categories. We propose that the symmetry categories obtained by gauging higher subgroups may be defined as higher group-theoretical fusion categories, which are built from the projective higher representations of higher groups. As concrete applications we provide a unified description of the symmetry categories of gauge theories in three and four dimensions based on the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{so}(N)$, and a fully categorical description of non-invertible symmetries obtained by gauging a 1-form symmetry with a mixed 't Hooft anomaly. This article is part of a research-intervention project carried out in Early Childhood Schools using the IRDI Methodology. In one of the schools participating in the research, signs of risk of autism were detected in three babies who were followed. This paper aims to reflect on the importance of the educational collective, the interaction with colleagues, and the intermediation of the educators to identify and disarm conditions that could be hindering the constitutive process of babies with sings of risk of autism. In the follow-up performed, the function of the little resemblant (other children) was highlighted as important and enhancing in the psychic constitution and in the development of the learning of the baby that is with signs of autism. O presente artigo faz parte de um projeto de pesquisa-intervenção realizado em Escolas de Educação Infantil, utilizando a Metodologia IRDI. Em uma das escolas participantes da pesquisa foram percebidos sinais de risco de autismo em três bebês acompanhados. Neste escrito objetiva-se refletir sobre a importância do coletivo educacional, da interação entre os colegas e da intermediação das educadoras para identificar e desarmar condições que poderiam estar entravando o processo constitutivo dos bebês com sinais de risco de autismo. Exciton–phonon coupling plays a key role in determining the (opto)electronic properties of these materials. However, the exciton–phonon coupling strength has not been measured at room temperature. Here, we use two-dimensional micro-spectroscopy to determine exciton–phonon coupling of single-layer MoSe2. We detect beating signals as a function of waiting time induced by the coupling between A excitons and A′1 optical phonons. Analysis of beating maps combined with simulations provides the exciton–phonon coupling. We get a Huang–Rhys factor ~1, larger than in most other inorganic semiconductor nanostructures. Our technique offers a unique tool to measure exciton–phonon coupling also in other heterogeneous semiconducting systems, with a spatial resolution ~260 nm, and provides design-relevant parameters for the development of optoelectronic devices.

Energy relaxation of photo-excited charge carriers is of significant fundamental interest and crucial for the performance of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides in optoelectronics. The primary stages of carrier relaxation affect a plethora of subsequent physical mechanisms. Here we measure light scattering and emission in tungsten diselenide monolayers close to the laser excitation energy (down to ~0.6 meV). We reveal a series of periodic maxima in the hot photoluminescence intensity, stemming from energy states higher than the A-exciton state. We find a period ~15 meV for 7 peaks below (Stokes) and 5 peaks above (anti-Stokes) the laser excitation energy, with a strong temperature dependence. These are assigned to phonon cascades, whereby carriers undergo phonon-induced transitions between real states above the free-carrier gap with a probability of radiative recombination at each step. We infer that intermediate states in the conduction band at the Λ-valley of the Brillouin zone participate in the cascade process of tungsten diselenide monolayers. This provides a fundamental understanding of the first stages of carrier–phonon interaction, useful for optoelectronic applications of layered semiconductors.

This article aims to discuss the process of establishing the mothers’ relationship with their premature infants, especially those born with low birth weight. Interest in the subject originated in the authors’ clinical experience, both in the hospital in Neonatal Intensive Care Units, as in psychotherapy with children at preschool age who were born preterm and with low birth weight. For this discussion, it will be discussed a brief theoretical course on the process of becoming a mother, the potentially traumatic birth factor, especially preterm and the importance of a transitive movement that the mother puts in the relationship with the baby in an attempt to take the constitutive movement of it as a subject. This movement is illustrated by a case reported from the experience of care for mothers and babies admitted to NICU. Key words: prematurity, mother-infant relationship, transitivism. Este artigo tem como objetivo discutir o processo de estabelecimento da relação da mãe com seu bebê prematuro, principalmente aqueles que nascem com muito baixo peso. O interesse pelo tema teve origem na experiência clínica das autoras, tanto no âmbito hospitalar, em Unidades de Internação Intensiva Neonatal, quanto na psicoterapia com crianças em idade pré-escolar que nasceram pré-termo e com muito baixo peso. Para essa discussão, é trilhado um breve percurso teórico sobre o processo de tornar-se mãe, o fator potencialmente traumático do parto, especialmente o prematuro, e a importância do movimento transitivista que a mãe coloca na relação com o bebê na tentativa de empreender o movimento constitutivo dele como sujeito. Esse movimento é ilustrado através de um caso clínico relatado a partir da experiência de atendimento de mães e bebê internados em UTI Neonatal. Electron transport across the transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD)/metal interface plays an important role in determining the performance of TMD-based optoelectronic devices. However, the robustness of this process against structural heterogeneities remains unexplored, to the best of our knowledge. Here, we employ a combination of time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy (TR-PEEM) and atomic force microscopy to investigate the spatially resolved hot-electron-transfer dynamics at the monolayer (1L) MoS2/Au interface. A spatially heterogeneous distribution of 1L-MoS2/Au gap distances, along with the sub-80 nm spatial- and sub-60 fs temporal resolution of TR-PEEM, permits the simultaneous measurement of electron-transfer rates across a range of 1L-MoS2/Au distances. These decay exponentially as a function of distance, with an attenuation coefficient β ∼ 0.06 ± 0.01 Å-1, comparable to molecular wires. Ab initio simulations suggest that surface plasmon-like states mediate hot-electron-transfer, hence accounting for its weak distance dependence. The weak distance dependence of the interfacial hot-electron-transfer rate indicates that this process is insensitive to distance fluctuations at the TMD/metal interface, thus motivating further exploration of optoelectronic devices based on hot carriers. Graphene is an ideal material for integrated nonlinear optics thanks to its strong light-matter interaction and large nonlinear optical susceptibility. Graphene has been used in optical modulators, saturable absorbers, nonlinear frequency converters, and broadband light emitters. For the latter application, a key requirement is the ability to control and engineer the emission wavelength and bandwidth, as well as the electronic temperature of graphene. Here, we demonstrate that the emission wavelength of graphene$'$ s broadband hot carrier photoluminescence can be tuned by integration on photonic cavities, while thermal management can be achieved by out-of-plane heat transfer to hexagonal boron nitride. Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have rapidly emerged as one of the most attractive families of two-dimensional materials due to their numerous outstanding electronic and optoelectronic properties. TMDs have layer-dependent band structures, exhibiting a dramatic transition from a direct bandgap in the monolayer (1L) to an indirect bandgap in the multilayer (NL). TMD homojunctions form when a 1L TMD interfaces with an NL TMD of the same chemical composition. Such 1L/NL TMD homojunctions are predicted to have similar properties as heterojunctions, which comprises two different TMDs. In this work, we employ time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy (TR-PEEM) to study the ultrafast carrier dynamics of a WSe2 1L/NL Type-I homojunction with high temporal (50 fs) and spatial (70 nm) resolution. We investigate the photocatalytic performance of nanocomposites prepared in a one-step process by liquid-phase exfoliation of graphite in the presence of TiO$_2$ nanoparticles (NPs) at atmospheric pressure and in water, without heating or adding any surfactant, and starting from low-cost commercial reagents. The nanocomposites show enhanced photocatalytic activity, degrading up to 40$\%$ more pollutants with respect to the starting TiO$_2$-NPs. In order to understand the photo-physical mechanisms underlying this enhancement, we investigate the photo-generation of reactive species (trapped holes and electrons) by ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy. We observe an electron transfer process from TiO$_2$ to the graphite flakes within the first picoseconds of the relaxation dynamics, which causes the decrease of the charge recombination rate, and increases the efficiency of the reactive species photo-production., Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures, 1 table

The paper describes the psychological impact of cancer on adolescent patients and introduces the “Youth Project” of the Pediatric Oncology Unit IRCCS Fondazione Istituto Nazionale Tumori in Milan, dedicated to young patients with solid tumors. This project represents a possible new assistance model to address the unique needs of patients in this age group., Gli adolescenti ammalati di tumore costituiscono un gruppo peculiare di pazienti, con dei bisogni speciali. Questo articolo analizza l’impatto psicologico di una malattia grave, come il cancro, su questa delicata fascia d’età e descrive il Progetto Giovani della Pediatria dell’Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano, un progetto nato come un nuovo modello di assistenza per rispondere ai peculiari bisogni dei pazienti adolescenti e giovani adulti.

Dealing with a serious illness always implies, and particularly for a child, important physical and psychological stresses. If on the one hand, the adult could have adaption’s resources which allow him to deal with the illness’s implications, on the other hand, for a child, the interference of the disease with growing steps may cause serious problems. For this reason, the clinicians and the family have to support the educational and social continuity of the child’s interactions. The school experience, in fact, helps and supports the psychological and social development of the patient. This article has the aim of describing the experiences of the authors considering the Italian legislation, discussing the scientific literature and the approaches and resources which can be used in order to maintain the children within their school career. The experiences of the authors have been collect- ed in the Paediatric Unit of an oncology’s hospital. However, these experiences may be useful also in other contexts where children are being treated for different diseases. Affrontare una malattia grave comporta sempre, e in particolar modo per un minore, uno stress fisico e psichico di grande rilievo. Se da un lato un adulto può possedere risorse di adattamento che gli permettono di far fronte alla malattia, per un bambino la patologia può interferire con la crescita sociale ed emotiva. Per questa ragione, i clinici e la famiglia hanno anche il compito di sostenere la continuità dell’apprendimento scolastico e delle interazioni sociali. L’esperienza scolastica aiuta e supporta lo sviluppo psicologico e sociale del paziente in età evolutiva. Questo articolo illustra le metodologie e le risorse per aiutare i minori nel mantenimento del loro percorso scolastico, alla luce della letteratura scientifica, del panorama normativo e organizzativo italiano e dell’esperienza assistenziale degli autori presso un reparto di Pediatria di un grande ospedale oncologico. In the training of the doctors, even specialists, training courses are generally not available for communication and for the relationship with patients in developmental age. Some techniques such as illusionistic techniques are increasingly described in the scientific literature as tools that can be used in the areas of care and rehabilitation. In this work, clinical experiences are presented on the use of illusionism techniques in clinical consultation with patients suffering from organic pathologies, based on a review of the scientific literature. Nella formazione del medico, anche specialista, non sono generalmente disponibili percorsi di formazione dedicati alla comunicazione e alla relazione con i pazienti in età evolutiva. Alcune tecniche, come quelle illusionistiche, sono descritte in modo crescente nella letteratura scientifica quali strumenti utilizzabili negli ambiti di cura e riabilitazione. In questo lavoro sono presentate esperienze cliniche sull’impiego di tecniche di illusionismo nella consultazione clinica con pazienti affetti da patologie organiche, sulla base di una revisione della letteratura scientifica.

O artigo, em um primeiro momento, tem por objetivo discutir historicamente o conceito de cissexismo. Em um segundo momento, visa a demonstrar como esse conceito pode se transformar em uma regra não escrita da teoria psicanalítica freudiana se o analista não estiver atento às demandas da clínica e à cultura de seu tempo. Neste artigo, justifica-se que os estudos de gênero são ferramentas clínicas de arejamento teórico para que os psicanalistas não cometam atitudes normativas, violentas e estigmatizantes na clínica.

We infer that intermediate states in the conduction band at the $\Lambda$-valley of the Brillouin zone participate in the cascade process of 1L-WSe$_2$. The observations explain the primary stages of carrier relaxation, not accessible so far in time-resolved experiments. We report a THz reflectarray metasurface which uses graphene as active element to achieve beam steering, shaping and broadband phase modulation. This is based on the creation of a voltage controlled reconfigurable phase hologram, which can impart different reflection angles and phases to an incident beam, replacing bulky and fragile rotating mirrors used for terahertz imaging. This can also find applications in other regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, paving the way to versatile optical devices including light radars, adaptive optics, electro-optical modulators and screens., 16 pages, 10 figures

We fabricate a saturable absorber mirror by coating a graphene- film on an output coupler mirror. This is then used to obtain Q-switched mode-locking from a diode-pumped linear cavity channel waveguide laser inscribed in Ytterbium-doped Bismuthate Glass. The laser produces 1.06 ps pulses at ~1039 nm, with a 1.5 GHz repetition rate, 48% slope efficiency and 202 mW average output power. This performance is due to the combination of the graphene saturable absorber and the high quality optical waveguides in the laser glass.

We assessed the association of MC1R variants with childhood and adolescent melanoma in a large study comparing the prevalence of MC1R variants in child or adolescent patients with melanoma to that in adult patients with melanoma and in healthy adult controls. Methods in this retrospective pooled analysis, we used the M-SKIP Project, the Italian Melanoma Intergroup, and other European groups (with participants from Australia, Canada, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the USA) to assemble an international multicentre cohort. We gathered phenotypic and genetic data from children or adolescents diagnosed with sporadic single-primary cutaneous melanoma at age 20 years or younger, adult patients with sporadic single-primary cutaneous melanoma diagnosed at age 35 years or older, and healthy adult individuals as controls. We calculated odds ratios (ORs) for childhood and adolescent melanoma associated with MC1R variants by multivariable logistic regression. Subgroup analysis was done for children aged 18 or younger and 14 years or younger. Findings We analysed data from 233 young patients, 932 adult patients, and 932 healthy adult controls. Children and adolescents had higher odds of carrying MC1R r variants than did adult patients (OR 1.54, 95% CI 1.02-2.33), including when analysis was restricted to patients aged 18 years or younger (1.80, 1.06-3.07). All investigated variants, except Arg160Trp, tended, to varying degrees, to have higher frequencies in young patients than in adult patients, with significantly higher frequencies found for Val60Leu (OR 1.60, 95% CI 1.05-2.44; p=0.04) and Asp294His (2.15, 1.05-4.40; p=0.04). Compared with those of healthy controls, young patients with melanoma had significantly higher frequencies of any MC1R variants. Interpretation Our pooled analysis of MC1R genetic data of young patients with melanoma showed that MC1R r variants were more prevalent in childhood and adolescent melanoma than in adult melanoma, especially in patients aged 18 years or younger. Our findings support the role of MC1R in childhood and adolescent melanoma susceptibility, with a potential clinical relevance for developing early melanoma detection and preventive strategies. Graphene is ideally suited for optoelectronic applications. It offers absorption at telecom wavelengths, high-frequency operation and CMOS-compatibility. We report optoelectronic mixing up to to 67GHz using a back-gated graphene field effect transistor (GFET). We also present a model to describe the resulting mixed current. These results pave the way for GETs optoelectronic mixers for mm-wave applications, such as telecommunications and RADAR/LIDAR systems.

Grading scales yield objective measure of the severity of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and serve as to guide treatment decisions and for prognostication. The purpose of this cohort study was to determine what factors govern a patient's disease-specific admission scores in a representative Central European cohort. The Swiss Study of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage includes anonymized data from all tertiary referral centers serving subarachnoid hemorrhage patients in Switzerland. The 2009-2014 dataset was used to evaluate the impact of patient and aneurysm characteristics on the patients' status at admission using descriptive and multivariate regression analysis. The primary/co-primary endpoints were the GCS and the WFNS grade. The secondary endpoints were the Fisher grade, the presence of a thick cisternal or ventricular clot, the presence of a new focal neurological deficit or cranial nerve palsy, and the patient's intubation status. In our cohort of 1787 consecutive patients, increasing patient age by 10 years and low pre-ictal functional status (mRS 3-5) were inversely correlated with "high" GCS score (GCS ≥ 13) (OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.84-0.97 and OR 0.67, 95% CI 0.31-1.46), "low" WFNS grade (grade VI-V) (OR 1.21, 95% CI 1.04-1.20 and OR 1.47, 95% CI 0.66-3.27), and high Fisher grade (grade III-IV) (OR 1.08, 95% CI 1.00-1.17 and OR 1.54, 95% CI 0.55-4.32). Other independent predictors for the patients' clinical and radiological condition at admission were the ruptured aneurysms' location and its size. In sum, chronological age and pre-ictal functional status, as well as the ruptured aneurysm's location and size, determine the patients' clinical and radiological condition at admission to the tertiary referral hospital.

We study a twistor correspondence based on the Joukowski map reduced from one for stationary-axisymmetric self-dual Yang-Mills and adapt it to the Painlev\'e III equation. A natural condition on the geometry (axissimplicity) leads to solutions that are meromorphic at the fixed singularity at the origin. We show that it also implies a quantisation condition for the parameter in the equation. From the point of view of generalized monodromy data, the condition is equivalent to triviality of the Stokes matrices and half-integral exponents of formal monodromy. Post-synthesis separation between metallic (m-SWNTs) and semiconducting (s-SWNTs) singlewall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) is remaining a challenging process for the reliable fabrication of high performance electronic devices. Gel agarose chromatography is emerging as an efficient and large scale separation technique. However, the full (100%) separation of m-SWNTs and s-SWNTs has not been reached yet, mainly due to the lack of understanding of the separation mechanism. Here we study the temperature effect on the separation via gel agarose chromatography by varying the separation process temperatures between 6C and 50C, for four different SWNT sources. Exploiting the gel agarose micro-beads filtration technique we achieved up to 70% m-SWNTs and more than 90% s-SWNTs, independent of the source material. The process is temperature dependent, with improved yields up to 95% for s-SWNT (HiPco) at 6C. Temperature affects the sodium dodecyl sulfate SDS surfactant-micelle distribution along the SWNT sidewalls, thus helping to act as an aid in the sorting of SWNTs by electronic type. The sorted SWNTs are then used to fabricate transistors with very low OFF-currents (10^-13 A), high ON/OFF current ratio (>10^6) and improved charge carriers mobility.
