Abstract

We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle ϕ 3 (also known as γ) using a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis of B + → D ( K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ h + h − )h +, where D is either a D 0 or D ¯ $$ \overline{D} $$ 0 meson and h is either a π or K. This is the first measurement that simultaneously uses Belle and Belle II data, combining samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of 711 fb −1 and 128 fb −1, respectively. All data were accumulated from energy-asymmetric e + e − collisions at a centre-of-mass energy corresponding to the mass of the Υ(4S) resonance. We measure ϕ 3 = (78.4 ± 11.4 ± 0.5 ± 1.0)°, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is from the uncertainties on external measurements of the D-decay strong-phase parameters.

5. Biomechanical validation of additively manufactured artificial femoral bones

Abstract

Replicating the mechanical behavior of human bones, especially cancellous bone tissue, is challenging. Typically, conventional bone models primarily consist of polyurethane foam surrounded by a solid shell. Although nearly isotropic foam components have mechanical properties similar to cancellous bone, they do not represent the anisotropy and inhomogeneity of bone architecture. To consider the architecture of bone, models were developed whose core was additively manufactured based on CT data. This core was subsequently coated with glass fiber composite. Specimens consisting of a gyroid-structure were fabricated using fused filament fabrication (FFF) techniques from different materials and various filler levels. Subsequent compression tests showed good accordance between the mechanical behavior of the printed specimens and human bone. The unidirectional fiberglass composite showed higher strength and stiffness than human cortical bone in 3-point bending tests, with comparable material behaviors being observed. During biomechanical investigation of the entire assembly, femoral prosthetic stems were inserted into both artificial and human bones under controlled conditions, while recording occurring forces and strains. All of the artificial prototypes, made of different materials, showed analogous behavior to human bone. In conclusion, it was shown that low-cost FFF technique can be used to generate valid bone models and selectively modify their properties by changing the infill.

Zusammenfassung Hintergrund Es gibt Anhaltspunkte dafür, dass die Gefahr von Kindesmisshandlung, sexuellem Kindesmissbrauch und Vernachlässigung während der strengen Kontaktbeschränkungen im pandemiebedingten Lockdown zugenommen hat, während der Wegfall der gewohnten Mechanismen zur sozialen Kontrolle mutmaßlich zu einer Zunahme des Dunkelfelds geführt hat. Ziel der Arbeit Anhand der Kinderschutzfallzahlen und -qualitäten deutscher Kinderkliniken und Kinderschutzambulanzen sollen Aussagen über Häufigkeit und Schwere vermuteter Kindeswohlgefährdung während des pandemiebedingten Lockdowns getroffen werden. Methoden Im Mai 2020 erfolgte eine Onlinebefragung mit Items a) zur Beschreibung der Institution, b) zur nach Alter, Gewaltform und Schweregrad differenzierten Anzahl von Kinderschutzfällen in März/April 2019 und 2020 sowie c) zu Besonderheiten und Ideen für den Kinderschutz während der Pandemie. Ergebnisse In einer Vollerhebung wurden 343 Kinderkliniken und medizinische Kinderschutzambulanzen zur Onlinebefragung eingeladen; die Teilnahmequote lag bei 46 %. Es gaben 81 Einrichtungen Gesamtfallzahlen für März/April 2019 und März/April 2020 an. Bei den Ambulanzen konnte ein Rückgang von 454 auf 387 Fälle (−15 %) verzeichnet werden, bei den Kinderschutzgruppen von 307 auf 246 (−20 %). Hinsichtlich der Altersgruppen und der Formen der Gefährdung fanden sich keine signifikanten Unterschiede. Schlussfolgerung Die Untersuchung beschreibt einen Rückgang der absoluten Fallzahlen im medizinischen Kinderschutz während des Lockdowns im März und im April 2020. Dieses Ergebnis stützt die Vermutung, dass das Dunkelfeld gefährdeter Kinder weiter gestiegen sein könnte. Weitere Datenerhebungen nach dem Lockdown werden die längerfristigen Auswirkungen besser bewerten können.

8. The effects of force application on the compressive properties of femoral spongious bone

Abstract

End artefacts play a major role in uniaxial compression tests with cancellous bone specimens. They lead to misinterpretation of mechanical parameters of bones due to uncontrolled introduction of bending moments into the free ends of trabeculae. This work aims to simplify current methods preventing end-artefacts and furthermore to investigate the influence of end artefacts on plateau stress.176 cylindrical cancellous bone specimens were taken from human femoral condyles and tested in uniaxial compression. The specimens were divided into 2 groups (direct, end-cap) and compressive modulus, maximum stress, plateau stress, energy absorbtion as well as apparent density were evaluated. Density values are from separate specimens which are immediately adjacent to the mechanical specimen.All mechanical parameters were significantly higher in the end-cap specimens than in the direct ones by about 30 - 40 %, thus reaching similar differences as the previous studies. Greatest differences between groups were determined for compressive modulus (45 %) and plateau stress (35 %). Energy absorbtion can be explained with great accuracy by plateau stress (P 0.001; RThe end-cap method used here to prevent end artefacts showed variations consistent with the literature when compared to the direct method. Additionally it was shown that the way in which the force is applied to the specimen has a major influence on the failure progression behavior, which was characterized using the plateau stress.

Abstract

The first measurements of differential branching fractions of inclusive semileptonic B→X_{u}ℓ^{+}ν_{ℓ} decays are performed using the full Belle data set of 711 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity at the ϒ(4S) resonance and for ℓ=e, μ. With the availability of these measurements, new avenues for future shape-function model-independent determinations of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{ub}| can be pursued to gain new insights in the existing tension with respect to exclusive determinations. The differential branching fractions are reported as a function of the lepton energy, the four-momentum-transfer squared, light-cone momenta, the hadronic mass, and the hadronic mass squared. They are obtained by subtracting the backgrounds from semileptonic B→X_{c}ℓ^{+}ν_{ℓ} decays and other processes, and corrected for resolution and acceptance effects.

Abstract

Using data samples of 89.5 and 711 fb^{-1} recorded at energies of sqrt[s]=10.52 and 10.58 GeV, respectively, with the Belle detector at the KEKB e^{+}e^{-} collider, we report measurements of branching fractions of semileptonic decays Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}ℓ^{+}ν_{ℓ} (ℓ=e or μ) and the CP-asymmetry parameter of Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+} decay. The branching fractions are measured to be B(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})=(1.31±0.04±0.07±0.38)% and B(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}μ^{+}ν_{μ})=(1.27±0.06±0.10±0.37)%, and the decay parameter α_{Ξπ} is measured to be 0.63±0.03±0.01 with much improved precision compared with the current world average. The corresponding ratio B(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})/B(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}μ^{+}ν_{μ}) is 1.03±0.05±0.07, which is consistent with the expectation of lepton flavor universality. The first measured asymmetry parameter A_{CP}=(α_{Ξ^{-}π^{+}}+α_{Ξ[over ¯]^{+}π^{-}})/(α_{Ξ^{-}π^{+}}-α_{Ξ[over ¯]^{+}π^{-}})=0.024±0.052±0.014 is found to be consistent with zero. The first and the second uncertainties above are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise due to the uncertainty of the Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+} branching fraction.

Abstract

Data collection of mechanical parameters from compressive tests play a fundamental role in FE modelling of bone tissues or the developing and designing of bone implants, especially referring to osteoporosis or other forms of bone loss. A total of 43 cylindrical samples (Ø8 × 16 mm) were taken from 43 freshly frozen proximal femora using a tenon cutter. All femora underwent BMD measurement and additionally apparent- and relative- and bulk density (rapp, rr, rb) were determined using samples bordering the compressive specimen on the proximal and distal regions. All samples were classified as "normal", "osteopenia" and "osteoporosis" based on the DEXA measurements. Distal apparent density was most suitable for predicting bone strength and BMD. One novel aspect is the examination of the plateau stress as it describes the stress at which the failure of spongious bone progresses. No significant differences in mechanical properties (compressive modulus E; compressive stress smax and plateau stress sp) were found between osteopenic and osteoporotic bone. The results suggest that already in the case of a known osteopenia, actions should be taken as they are applied in the case of osteoporosis A review of the literature regarding extraction and testing methods illustrates the urgent need for standardized biomechanical compressive material testing.

Abstract

Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the Z^{'}. Using data collected by the Belle II experiment during 2018 at the SuperKEKB collider, we perform the first searches for the invisible decay of a Z^{'} in the process e^{+}e^{-}→μ^{+}μ^{-}Z^{'} and of a lepton-flavor-violating Z^{'} in e^{+}e^{-}→e^{±}μ^{∓}Z^{'}. We do not find any excess of events and set 90% credibility level upper limits on the cross sections of these processes. We translate the former, in the framework of an L_{μ}-L_{τ} theory, into upper limits on the Z^{'} coupling constant at the level of 5×10^{-2}-1 for M_{Z^{'}}≤6 GeV/c^{2}.

Abstract

The Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) is a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded initiative to develop reliable, valid, and normed item banks to measure health. We describe the first large-scale translation and cross-cultural adaptation effort to German and Spanish of eight pediatric PROMIS item banks: Physical activity (PAC), subjective well-being (SWB), experiences of stress (EOS), and family relations (FAM). We utilized methods outlined in the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) PRO Translation Task Force recommendations. Ten professional translators performed a translatability assessment and generated forward translations. Forward Translations were compared within a country and cross-culturally to identify problems and to produce a consensus-derived version, which was then back translated, evaluated, and revised where necessary. Reconciled versions were evaluated in cognitive interviews with 126 children before finalization. Eight resulting pediatric PROMIS® item banks were translated: Two PAC banks (22 total items), three SWB banks (125 total items), two EOS banks (45 total items), and one FAM bank (47 total items). Up to 92% of all items raised no or only minor translation difficulties, 0–5.6% were difficult to translate. Up to 20% item revisions were necessary to ensure conceptual equivalence and comprehensibility. Cognitive interviews indicated that 91–94% of the final items were appropriate for children (8–17 years). German and Spanish translations of eight PROMIS Pediatric item banks were created for clinical trials and routine pediatric health care. Initial translatability assessment and rigorous translation methodology helped to ensure conceptual equivalence and comprehensibility. Next steps include cross-cultural validation and adaptation studies.

Abstract

We report a measurement of the D⁰ and D⁺ lifetimes using D⁰→K⁻π⁺ and D⁺→K⁻π⁺π⁺ decays reconstructed in e⁺e⁻→[Formula: see text] data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e⁺e⁻ collider. The data, collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the Υ(4S) resonance, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 72 fb⁻¹. The results, τ(D⁰)=410.5±1.1(stat)±0.8(syst) fs and τ(D⁺)=1030.4±4.7(stat)±3.1(syst) fs, are the most precise to date and are consistent with previous determinations.

Abstract

We report measurements of the branching fractions and CP asymmetries for [Formula: see text] , [Formula: see text] , and [Formula: see text] decays, and the branching fraction for [Formula: see text]. Our results are based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 921 fb⁻¹ collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e⁺e⁻ asymmetric-energy collider. Our measurements of CP asymmetries in these decays are the most precise to date; no evidence for CP violation is found.

Abstract

It has been proposed that the P3b component of event-related potentials (ERPs) reflects linking of responses to target stimuli. This proposal was tested by disconnecting the temporal link between target stimuli and responses, and by applying residue iteration decomposition (RIDE) for separating the ERP components into stimulus-locked, response-locked, and "intermediate" clusters. Left or right keys had to be pressed in response to frequent (80%) and rare (20%) target letters, but responses had to wait for "go" signals (appearing in 90% of trials). Between blocks, stimulus-onset asynchronies (SOAs) from targets to go-signals varied from 0 ms to 800 ms. Rare targets with their rare responses were expected to evoke large P3bs ("oddball effect"). If related to stimulus processing only, this effect will be equally large across all SOAs and will be modeled by RIDE's stimulus-cluster. If related to response initiation only, the oddball effect will be evoked by go-signals rather than by targets and will be modeled by RIDE's response-cluster. If indicating integration of rare stimuli with their rare responses, the oddball effect will be evoked by targets but will be reduced and stretched in time across SOAs and will be modeled by RIDE's intermediate cluster. RIDE analysis confirmed this latter view, for the most part. SOA effects matched best, though not perfectly, predictions made by the stimulus-response-link view. These results call for a refined account of the oddball effect on P3b in terms of stimulus-response coupling.

Abstract

The P3b component of ERPs has been proposed to reflect decisions or, alternatively, activation of stimulus-response links or, alternatively, to depend on stimulus processing only. These three views make different predictions about how difficulty of response selection will affect the oddball effect. In three experiments, frequent and rare targets were accompanied by ancillary stimuli. Large oddball-P3bs, evoked by rare targets, were greatly reduced when responses had to be selected by combining information from targets and ancillary stimuli. Difficult response selection with rare targets was also reflected by a large frontocentral negativity, which could be separated from P3b when intervals were varied between targets and ancillary stimuli, and, therefore, did not cause P3b reduction. It is concluded that the usual increase of P3b with rare task-relevant targets depends on the existence of readily available stimulus-response links.

Abstract

Im Rahmen des bundesweiten Arbeitstreffens der Kindervorsorge- und Fruherkennungsprojekte am 9. September 2011 in Frankfurt am Main stellten 10 von 13 Bundeslandern ihre Strukturen, Umsetzungen und Ergebnisse vor. So gelang erstmals eine Gesamtschau auf alle Programme dieser Art in Deutschland. Die Programme und Daten aus diesen 10 Vorstellungen wurden analysiert und verglichen. Dabei konnten, trotz der vielen Unterschiede in den gesetzlichen Grundlagen und der strukturellen Umsetzung, zwischen den Programmen auch Gemeinsamkeiten in der Umsetzung und in den aufgekommenen Problemen festgestellt werden. Im Kontext der Programme kam es zu deutlich gesteigerten Teilnahmequoten an den Fruherkennungsuntersuchungen. Detaillierte Evaluationen zur Detektion von Kindeswohlgefahrdung und weiteren Effekten, wie Steigerung der Impfquoten, Verbesserung der Kindergesundheit durch gesteigerte Beratung und Fursorge, liegen bislang nur ansatzweise vor.

19. Prävention von Kindeswohlgefährdungen in Suchtfamilien durch das Screening von Risikofaktoren für Gewalt an Kindern

Abstract

Einleitung: Sucht innerhalb der Familie fuhrt das familiare System an Grenzen und manchmal daruber hinaus. Langsschnittstudien zeigen, dass bei Kindern und Jugendlichen aus Familien mit substanzmissbrauchenden Eltern ein erhohtes Risiko vorliegt, Opfer von Gewalt zu werden. Sucht muss demnach nicht nur als Folge, sondern auch als Ursache von Gewalt verstanden werden. Methoden: Zum Zusammenhang zwischen Sucht der Eltern und Gewalterfahrungen ihrer Kinder sowie zu suchtspezifischen Risikofaktoren fur Gewalt an Kindern wurde ein systematisches Review mit Meta-Analyse durchgefuhrt. Ausgewertet wurden N = 3.679 weltweit publizierte Studien aus den sechs Datenbanken Medline, Embase, BIOSIS, PsycINFO, Psyndex und Web of Science (SSCI). Um einen Uberblick uber die fur den Kinderschutz vorliegenden Rahmenbedingungen in den Suchtberatungsstellen sowie uber die Zusammenarbeit mit dem regionalen Jugendhilfesystem zu erhalten, wurden eine reprasentative Fragebogenstudie in N = 157 Suchtberatungsstellen in Deutschland durchgefuhrt. Ein mit Experten aus Hamburger Suchthilfeeinrichtungen entwickelter Screeningbogen fur Kindeswohlgefahrdung „Hamburger Belastungsbogen“, bestehend aus empirisch belegten sowie deutschlandweit in der Praxis etablierten Risikofaktoren fur Gewalt an Kindern, wurde von N = 50 Beratungsstellen bundesweit erprobt und hinsichtlich seiner Praktikabilitat fur die Suchtberatung bewertet. Ergebnisse: Die Literaturanalyse zeigt die Heterogenitat an empirischen Befunden zu dem Zusammenhang zwischen elterlicher Sucht und Gewalt an den Kindern. Identifiziert werden konnen Hinweise fur suchtspezifische Risikofaktoren fur Kindeswohlgefahrdung. Die bundesweite Befragung von Suchteinrichtungen verdeutlicht weiteren Handlungsbedarf wie auch bereits gute Umsetzungen in einigen Einrichtungen. Diskussion: Sowohl in der Forschung als auch in der Praxis besteht aber insgesamt noch groser Bedarf, Gewalt an Kindern vor dem Hintergrund von elterlichen Suchterkrankungen zu berucksichtigen, um die Suchtberatung und Kinderschutz (noch) naher zusammen zu bringen. Fur das systematische Prufen von Hinweisen auf Kindeswohlgefahrdung in Familien mit suchtkranken Elternteilen mussen von Jugend- und Suchthilfe gemeinsam Standards entwickelt werden. Screeninginstrumente wie der „Hamburger Belastungsbogen“ konnen fur BeraterInnen in der Suchthilfe eine grose Unterstutzung darstellen und als Grundlage fur weitere Entwicklungen dienen.

Families with migrant backgrounds (MB) are exposed to several psychosocial risk factors that increase the likelihood of impaired child development, in particular.We investigated whether families with MB differ from families without MB regarding their psychosocial stressors in the period of pregnancy and birth.As part of a social early warning system in an obstetrics clinic in Germany n=502 families with MB were compared with n=349 families without MB with respect to the degree of stress and stress factors on the basis of an initial screening of risk factors for child maltreatment by a midwife or physician and a subsequent structured clearing interview by social education workers during the mothers' inpatient hospitalisation.For families without MB, a significantly higher total score was found in the risk screening (M=3,9 points vs. M=2,9 points) in comparison to families with MB. While families with MB compared to families without MB were faced more frequently by social stressors, e. g., financial problems or a difficult housing situation (81 vs. 37%), they were less frequently impacted by mental strain (27 vs. 48%), young fathers (2 vs. 10%) and maternal psychiatric diseases (3 vs. 17%), according to the risk screening. Socio-economic determinants such as social inclusion and living environment were found to be important factors influencing the psychosocial stress level of families.Explanations and implications for research and practice are discussed.

Abstract

Since 1971 routine child health check-ups allow the routine identification of dis-eases in children and adolescents. Paediatricians play a central role in health prevention in childhood and adolescence and are - on account of their acceptance and admission requirements - important actors in child protection. Thus, paediatric practitioners were actively involved in the invitation and reporting system for the routine child health check-ups (U6 and U7), which was introduced to increase participation rates and improve child protection in Hamburg.By means of a questionnaire survey, all paediatric practitioners practicing in Hamburg were asked a year after introduction of the invitation and reporting system to report on their practical experience, and to share their assessment and criticism of the system (response rate 73%).Out of 110 participating pediatricians (M=19.5 years practical experience), 81% evaluated the invitation and reporting system as very useful, useful or rather useful; 83% supported an expansion of the system for routine child health check-ups, and about 18% observed an increased utilisation of routine child health check-ups especially from families with a migrant background and by socially-disadvantaged families. Criticism was made concerning ineffective procedures.The invitation and reporting system for routine child health check-ups in Hamburg shows how pediatricians can be integrated into the network of prevention and child welfare. It also shows their support of this system. Paying more systematic attention and an interdisciplinary network connecting paediatricians may contribute to a more comprehensive prevention and child protection.

Abstract

Representatives of the statutory health insurance (n=46) and policy makers at the local, federal and state level (n=136) were interviewed in 2 nationwide online surveys about the significance and degree of implementation of prevention. The group comparison between the decision-makers shows significant differences in terms of attitudes towards health prevention. The political leaders are demanding an improvement of the GKV-benefit package and the obstacles require the cooperation of urgent attention.
