Recent experiments with Bose-Einstein condensates have entered a regime in which thousands of ground-state condensate atoms fill the Rydberg-electron orbit. After the excitation of a single atom into a highly excited Rydberg state, scattering off the Rydberg electron sets ground-state atoms into motion, such that one can study the quantum-many-body dynamics of atoms moving within the Rydberg atom. Here we study this many-body dynamics using Gross-Pitaevskii and truncated Wigner theory. Our simulations focus in particular on the scenario of multiple sequential Rydberg excitations on the same Rubidium condensate which has become the standard tool to observe quantum impurity dynamics in Rydberg experiments. We investigate to what extent such experiments can be sensitive to details in the electron-atom interaction potential, such as the rapid radial modulation of the Rydberg molecular potential, or p-wave shape resonance. We demonstrate that both effects are crucial for the initial condensate response within the Rydberg orbit, but become less relevant for the density waves emerging outside the Rydberg excitation region at later times. Finally we explore the local dynamics of condensate heating. We find that it provides only minor corrections to the mean-field dynamics., 27 pages and 10 figures

Introduction Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC), known as “broken heart syndrome” is a temporary, predominantly left ventricular dysfunction associated with emotional or physical triggers. Brain death (BD) can be a trigger through catecholamine storm and Cushing reflex. In case of heart transplantation (HTX) it can lead to donor heart dysfunction, a common cause of early postoperative mortality. Case Report A 50-year-old woman was listed for HTX following LVAD implantation in 2019 due to advanced heart failure caused by DCMP. In March 2020, a donor heart from a female 28-year-old brain-dead donor with occluding hydrocephalus was offered for her. The donor heart had a reduced EF of 40% with signs of TC with apical hypokinesia. Due to notorious organ shortage in Germany the TC heart was accepted. Following HTX weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass proved to be impossible due to biventricular dysfunction. A peripheral v-a-ECMO was implanted. Due to insufficient left ventricular unloading on v-a-ECMO, 9 hours after HTX, an Impella® 5.5 was implanted. Circulatory function improved and inotropes could be weaned during ICU stay. Improving LV function was documented on regular transesophageal echocardiographies. ST-segment elevations in the ECG were declining as well as CK levels and CK-MB/CK-ratio. V-A-ECMO was explanted 4 days after HTX and Impella® 5.5 explantation was performed the day after. By that time biventricular function had fully recovered. Myocardial biopsies showed no signs of rejection or inflammation. Acute on chronic renal failure made temporary hemodialysis necessary. Due to sternal wound healing complications the postoperative course was prolonged. The patient was discharged after 55 days. Significant stenosis of the coronary arteries was excluded during follow-up. Four months after discharge the patient is doing well and fully engages in everyday life. Summary Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is transient and there is evidence that inotropes play a role in the pathogenesis. Transplantation of such hearts with consecutive early temporary mechanical circulatory support is feasible. Subsequently it might be worth to reconsider criteria for rejection of donor hearts in cases of acutely reduced EF.

Synthetic deoxyoligonucleotide probes that hybridized against the region at positions 455 through 480 of 16S rRNA were developed for the identification of all five Xenorhabdus species. Sequence variation in the respective rRNA region between two strains of Xenorhabdus luminescens in addition allowed the construction of two strain-specific probes. Of 27 isolates determined to be Xenorhabdus strains by phenotypic characterization, 24 could be assigned to four of the five species. Two strains (HL-1 and HL-2) isolated from a Heterorhabditis sp. and a single strain (D-1.1) isolated from Steinernema affinis showed no hybridization signal with any of the five species-specific probes. With regard to the available species descriptions of nematodes, the results presented here confirm that, except for Steinernema affinis, the individual nematode hosts harbor only a single Xenorhabdus species.

White Pekin ducks were grown using standard management procedures. Ten ducklings were processed and frozen at each of the following ages: 28, 35, 41, 46, 48, 50, 53, 55, 57, 63 and 68 days. Necks and giblets were discarded. The percentage dressed duck, without neck and giblets, in breast meat, leg meat, total wing, and skin and fat was determined on all ducks. The percentage of breast meat increased from 4.79% to 15.93% for ducks 28 and 63 days of age, respectively. Leg meat decreased from 17.97% to 12.28% for the same ages of ducks. The percentage of skin and fat reached a minimum with 53 day old ducks. A second experiment was conducted with six age groups, six ducks each, from 28 to 51 days of age. Percentages of breast meat were almost identical in the two studies. Studies were also conducted to determine the effect of injecting a tripolyphosphate solution as 3% of body weight on yield of cooked duck meat. Injected birds yielded a higher percentage of meat and a lower percentage of skin. The skin of injected birds was crisper than skin of roasted controls.
