In this paper, one new species of the leafhopper genus Thaioneura Song, Li & Dietrich, 2016 from Guizhou Province, China are described and illustrated: Thaioneura huajiangensis sp. nov. And the female ovipositors are photographed and described. A key to distinguish all known species of the genus is provided. The hind wing venation of the new species are the same as the T. suphanburia and T. sinuata, and not common in the tribe Erythroneurini.

Leafhoppers in the tribe Erythroneurini are a concern for grape growers in California due to direct feeding damage by piercing the leaves. Management of leafhopper populations in vineyards may be accomplished by insecticide applications, the release of natural enemies, conservation biological control, exploitation of controlled deficit irrigation, or a combination of the above. Based on research on other leafhopper species, a behavioral mating disruption is a viable option, but nothing is known about the mating communication and circadian signaling of these species in vineyards. The objectives of this study were to identify and describe vibrational signals associated with mate selection behavior of Erasmoneura variabilis and Erythroneura ziczac, and evaluate the occurrence of vibrational signals within sympatric populations of E. variabilis, E. ziczac, and Homalodisca vitripennis on grapevines. Analysis of vibrational communication signals revealed that 1) one female signal and two distinct male signals are used in E. variabilis pair formation, 2) the pair formation process in E. variabilis is divided into three communication phases, 3) E. variabilis pre-copulatory communication is longer in the presence than in the absence of male-male rivalry, 4) two distinct signals are used in E. ziczac pair formation, and 5) E. variabilis, E. ziczac, and H. vitripennis sing at night and during the day. Results include detailed descriptions of leafhopper communication signals that are relevant for future development of vibrational disruption as a novel method to suppress populations under field conditions.

The genus Anufrievia Dworakowska, 1970 is widely distributed in China, Korea, South Korea, Japan, Nepal, India, Thailand, Vietnam and Vietnam. This work reports on two new species of Anufrievia found at Bijie City and Shibing County, Guizhou Province, China.Two new species of the leafhopper genus Anufrievia Dworakowska, 1970 from Guizhou Province China are described and illustrated, i.e., A. crispata sp. nov. and A. confluensa sp. nov. A key to distinguish the Chinese species of the genus is given.

The number and classification of tribes in the leafhopper subfamily Typhlocybinae are not yet fully clear, and molecular data has recently been used to help resolve the problem. In this study, the mitochondrial genomes of Mitjaevia shibingensis Chen, Song & Webb, 2020 and M. dworakowskae Chen, Song & Webb, 2020 of the tribe Erythroneurini (Cicadellidae, Typhlocybinae) were sequenced. Most protein-coding genes (PCGs) start with ATN and end with TAA or TAG, and the AT content of these three codons were found differ from previous results that show that the first codon has the highest incidence. Two rRNA genes are highly conserved, and the AT content in 16S is higher than that of 12S. The nucleotide diversity and genetic distance among 13 PCGs of the four tribes from Typhlocybinae show that Empoascini nucleotide diversity is significantly less than in the other three tribes, and have the largest distance from the others, while Typhlocybini and Zyginellini have the smallest distance, indicating that the relationship between the two is the closest. The nad2, nad4, nad4L, and nad5 genes have greater nucleotide diversity, showing potential for use as the main markers for species identification. The phylogenetic analysis yielded a well-supported topology with most branches receiving maximum support and a few branches pertaining to relationships within Zyginellini and Typhlocybini receiving lower support. The species of these two tribes are intertwined, and it was impossible to resolve them into separate branches. In addition, the tribes Empoascini and Erythroneurini were recovered as monophyletic, and Alebrini was placed at the base of the tree as the most primitive. These results are broadly in line with other molecular phylogenetical studies which differ from traditional morphological classification.

Karst rocky desertification is one of the main causes of habitat fragmentation in Southwest China. Guizhou Province is located in the center of the karst area in southern China and is a typical karst ecological environment fragile area. Many studies have shown that habitat fragmentation is the main factor leading to the loss of biodiversity and species extinction, and it is also one of the important factors that threaten the survival of natural organisms. This study initially explored the habitat fragmentation degree, species diversity, and genetic diversity of leafhoppers in three typical karst areas in Guizhou. The study was combined with the general situation of the study area, understanding the main factors affecting habitat fragmentation, and putting forward reasonable protection suggestions for species resources. Based on satellite imagery, field survey collection, molecular sequencing data, and related index measurement methods, we measured the habitat fragmentation degree, species diversity index, and genetic diversity index of Erythroneurine leafhoppers of Shibing Yuntai Mountain Nature Reserve, Bijie Salaxi Demonstration Zone, Zhenfeng-Huajiang Demonstration Zone. Moreover, we compared the differences in the three study areas, carried out correlation analysis with relevant environmental factors, and discussed the main factors that formed the results. The results of the study show that the species diversity and genetic diversity of Erythroneurine leafhoppers in the study areas are affected by habitat fragmentation, and the weaker the degree of habitat fragmentation in the region, the higher the species diversity and genetic diversity, which is specifically manifested in species, quantity, and gene-flow. Understanding the status of biodiversity in karst areas is conducive to the sustainable development of biological resources. In order to better protect the diversity of such insects and their host plants and other biological diversity, combined with the background of the research area, we propose corresponding protection measures for reference.

The leafhopper genus Anufrievia was established by Dworakowska with A. rolikae Dworakowska as its type species. They are widely distributed in China, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Two new species, A. ventricosa sp. nov. and A. unianxialis sp. nov., found in the karst area of Guanling and Shibing City, Guizhou Province, China are described and illustrated. The key to the identification of the specie of this genus is given.

Three new species of the leafhopper genus MitjaeviaDworakowska 1970, M. bijiensissp. nov., M. solitariasp. nov., and M. salaxiasp. nov., are described from the Karst region of Southwest China. Specimens studied were taken by sweep net. Morphological descriptions, depictions of habitus and illustrations of male terminalia are provided. A key and checklist to known species occurring in China are given.

The genus Anufrievia Dworakowska is reviewed with two new species from China: A. anchoroides sp. nov., and A. drepanoides sp. nov.. Detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations of these two new species and a key to all known species (males) from China are provided.

The leafhopper genus Empoascanara Distant, 1918 encompasses 81 species, most of which are distributed in Afrotropical, Oriental and Australian Realm. The leafhopper genus Kapsa Dworakowska, 1972 encompasses 23 species, mainly known from the Oriental and Australian Realms. Two new species of the leafhopper tribe Erythroneurini from Guizhou Province, China, Empoascanara dichotomus sp. nov. and Kapsa sinuose sp. nov. are described and illustrated. Identification keys to the males of the genera Empoascanara and Kapsa in China are proposed.

Two new species of the leafhopper tribe Erythroneurini from Guizhou province, China, Arboridia (Arboridia) huajiangensis sp. nov. and Arboridia (Arborifera) changlingensis sp. nov. are described and illustrated. The ovipositor of A. huajiangensis sp. nov. is photographed and described. A key distinguishing all known species of the genus in China is provided.

Simple Summary Typhlocybinae is the smallest sized and most evolved leafhopper, body length 2–4 mm, forewing with four apical cells but lacking closed preapical cells. It comprises over 6000 species (Dietrich, 2013) distributed worldwide, making it the second largest group of Cicadellidae. Previous phylogenetic analyses in this subfamily were mainly based on morphological characters and were restricted to several gene fragments. To provide further insight into the relationships of its included tribes, complete mitogenomes of two Alebrini species (Shaddai acuminatus, Sobrala sp.), two Dikraneurini species (Dikraneura (Dikraneura) zlata, Robusta emeiensis), two Empoascini species (Alebroides salici, Empoasca serrata), two Erythroneurini species (Elbelus tripunctatus, Kaukania anser), two Typhlocybini species (Eupteryx (Eupteryx) adspersa, Eurhadina jarrary), and one Zyginellini species (Yangisunda tiani) are newly sequenced and comparatively analyzed. The mitogenomes comprise the typical set of 37 mitochondrial genes and a large non-coding region (A+T-rich region). The acceptor arm of trnR is the most inconstant among all the tRNAs, due to the acceptor arm comprising unpaired bases. Phylogenetic analyses using Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood methods produced a well-resolved framework of Typhlocybinae, showed the monophyly of Typhlocybinae and its inner tribes, except for Typhlocybini and Zyginellini combined. These results provide the valuable data toward the future study of the phylogenetic relationships in this subfamily. Abstract To explore the characteristics of mitogenomes and discuss the phylogenetic relationships and molecular evolution of the six tribes within Typhlocybinae, 11 complete mitogenomes are newly sequenced and comparatively analyzed. In all of these complete mitogenomes, the number and order of the genes are highly conserved in overall organization. The PCGs initiate with ATN/TTG/GTG and terminate with TAA/TAG/T. Almost all tRNAs are folded into the typical clover-leaf secondary structure. The control region is always variable in length and in numbers of multiple tandem repeat units. The atp8 and nad2 exhibits the highest evolution rate among all the PCGs. Phylogenetic analyses based on whole mitogenome sequences, with three different datasets, using both maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods, indicate the monophyly of Typhlocybinae and its inner tribes, respectively, except for Typhlocybini and Zyginellini that are paraphyletic. Finally, we confirm that Erythroneurini is a subtribe of Dikraneurini.

An unusually dark typhlocybine leafhopper (Cicadellidae, Typhlocybinae, Erythroneurini) from Guizhou Province, China, is described as a new genus and species, Shibingagen. nov., and S. nigrasp. nov. Detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations of the new species are provided.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequences facilitate species identification and analyses of phylogenetic relationships. However, the available data are limited to the diverse and widespread insect family Cicadellidae. This study analyzes and summarizes the complete mitochondrial genome structure characteristics of 11 leafhopper subfamilies and two newly sequenced Typhlocybinae species, Empoascanara wengangensis and E. gracilis. Moreover, using 13PCGs and rRNA data to analyze the nucleotide diversity, evolution rate, and the phylogenetic relationship between the subfamilies of 56 species, verifying the taxonomic status analysis of E. wengangensis and E. gracilis. The analysis results show that the genome structures of the subfamilies and the newly sequenced two species are very similar, and the size of the CR region is significantly related to the repeat unit. However, in the entire AT-skews and CG-skews, the AT-skews of other subfamilies are all positive, and CG-skews are negative, while Empoascini of Typhlocybinae and Ledrinae are the opposite. Furthermore, among 13PCGs, the AT-skews of 13 species are all negative while CG-skews are positive, which from Empoascini in Typhlocybinae, Idiocerinae, Cicadellinae, Ledrinae, and Evacanthinae. Phylogenetic analysis shows that ML and PB analysis produce almost consistent topologies between different data sets and models, and some relationships are highly supported and remain unchanged. Mileewinae is a monophyletic group and is a sister group with Typhlocybinae, and the sister group of Evacanthinae is Ledrinae + Cicadellinae. Phylogenetic analysis grouped the two newly sequenced species with other species of Typhlocybinae, which was separated from other subfamilies, and all Erythroneurini insects gathered together. However, E. gracilis grouped into a single group, not grouped with species of the same genus (Empoascanara). This result does not match the traditional classification, and other nuclear genes or transcriptome genes may be needed to verify the result. Nucleotide diversity analysis shows that nad4 and nad5 may be evaluated as potential DNA markers defining the Cicadellidae insect species.

Guizhou is regarded as one hotspot for China's Erythroneurini diversity, from where numerous rare new species have been, or are being, described. A new genus and species of Erythroneurini from Huajiang, Guizhou, China, Anuihuajianga pyramidalis gen. et sp. nov. are described and illustrated. The new genus is characterized by subgenital plate extremely short, with long macrosetae dorsally at base, and small teeth-like setae at apex. The characteristic aedeagus shaped like two overlapping cones can also easily distinguish it from other genera. In general, this study further enriches the diversity of Erythroneurini in southwestern China.

Nsesa Dworakowska, 1974 is newly recorded from Cameroon; Nsimbala Dworakowska, 1974 and Szymczakowskia Dworakowska, 1974 from the Central African Republic; Lublinia Dworakowska, 1970, Lamtoana Dworakowska, 1972 and Ivorycoasta Dworakowska, 1972 from the Republic of Congo. Keys to species of the genera Accacidia Dworakowska, Imbecilla Dworakowska, Lublinia Dworakowska, Molopopterus Jacobi, Lamtoana Dworakowska and Nsesa Dworakowska are also given.

The genus Singapora Mahmood is reviewed with one new species from China, Singapora shiqianensis sp. nov.. Detailed morphological description, illustration of this new species and a key to all known species (males) from China are provided.

Four species of erythroneurine genus Ziczacella Anufriev, 1970 are revised. Among them, Ziczacella spinosa sp. nov. is new to science. Descriptions and illustrations of Korean species as well as a key and checklist of all known species are provided.

A new genus of the leafhopper tribe Erythroneurini (Cicadellidae, Typhlocybinae) from Thailand, Undulivenagen. n., and a new species Undulivenathaiensissp. n., are described and illustrated. The new genus exhibits a unique feature of the forewing venation with CuA vein strongly sinuate.

Morphological characteristics for identification of the leafhopper genus Watara Dworakowska are described and a key to all known species is provided. One new species, Watara longiprocessa sp. n., is added and one previously described species recorded from Thailand for the first time, Watara cordata Zhang & Yang, 2011 rec. n., is illustrated.

The genus Kapsa Dworakowska is redescribed and a new subgenus Kapsa ( Rigida ) Cao & Zhang is established to include thirteen species, a key to males of the subgenus is provided, and eight new species from China are described and illustrated: Kapsa aculeiformis , K. apicispina , K. brevis , K. explanata , K. furcata , K. imminuta , K. megaprocessa and K. serrata spp. nov. . Based on detailed study of previously described species, Kapsa yanheensis Song & Li, 2012 is considered a synonym of Tautoneura albida (Dworakowska, 1970). Four species previously placed in Kapsa are transferred to Tautoneura Anufriev: Tautoneura decorata (Dworakowska, 1981), T. diasonica (Chiang & Knight, 1990), T. elscinta (Chiang & Knight, 1990) and T. puerensis (Song & Li, 2012). K. alba Dworakowska, 1981 and T. ahmedi Dworakowska, 1977 are reported for the first time fromChina.

In the present paper, nine new species, Arboridia anteoculara, A. baiyunensis, A. reniformis, A. lunula, A. cuihuashana, A. paraprocessa, A. echinata, A. tridentata, A. zhenyuana spp. n. and a new record, A. agrillacea from China, are de-scribed and illustrated and a key for identification of Chinese species is provided.

A redescription of the erythroneurine leafhopper genus Hepneriana Dworakowska and a key to Chinese species of the genus are provided. Eleven new species, Hepneriana applanata, H. bicruris, H. concava, H. euryaedeaga, H. longa, H. menglunensis, H. paragamma, H. prostrata, H. robusta, H. taibaoensis and H. undulata spp. nov. are described and H. joannae (Dworakowska) is newly recorded from China.

Generic characteristics of genus Alnetoidia Dlabola are revised based on study of nine species from China, including two new species: A. (Alnetoidia) gracilis, A. (Alnella) dentata spp. nov., and four new records to China. A key to species for identification of Chinese adult males is provided.

Two new genera of the leafhopper tribe Erythroneurini, Nedotepa gen. n. and Alerrawia gen. n., and three new species, Nedotepa curta sp. n. from Ghana, Alerrawia meliae sp. n. from Kenya, and Musbrnoia linnavuorii sp. n. from Indonesia, are described and illustrated. Nedotepa curta sp. n. has an unusually reduced ovipositor, a feature not previously recorded in Typhlocybinae. Musbrnoia linnavuorii sp. n. has extremely elongated parts of the male terminalia, which remarkably resemble parts of the female ovipositor.

A new genus of tribe Erythroneurini from Thailand, Thaioneura gen. n., including three new species: Thaioneura nigrilinea sp. n. (type species), Thaioneura sinuata sp. n. and Thaioneura suphanburia sp. n., is described and illustrated and a key to species is provided. The new genus exhibits a pattern of interspecific variation in the hind wing venation that has not been observed in other genera of the tribe.

Anointing and grooming behaviors of the adult of Singapora shinshana (Matsumura) (Erythroneurini), Empoascanara (Empoascanara) mai Dworakowska (Erythroneurini), Austroasca vittata (Lethierry) (Empoascini), and Limassolla diospyri Chou et Ma (Zyginellini) were recorded and analysed. Through observation and analysis of their anointing and grooming, we found that there is a preparation stage before anointing behavior in typhlocybines. Anointing and grooming are repeated several times and the numbers and interval times differ from species to species among the Typhlocybinae. Ultramorphological examination of brochosomes and the morphology of the brochosome field, metathoracic tibiae and the structures on the head, face, mesothorax and pygofer of E. mai were done using a scanning electron microscope. Brochosomes (IBS) on the cuticle of typhlocybine adults were spherical visible above these integument. Characteristics of anointing and grooming behavior, the provide evidence that the brochosome field may function as a storage site in preparation for the next grooming session.

In the present paper, four new species, Kapsa acuminata, K. quadrispina, K. puerensis and K. yanheensis spp. n. from southwest China are described and illustrated, and a key to the species recorded from China is provided.

Seriana menglaensis sp. n. (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae: Erythroneurini) is described and illustrated from Southwest China. S. equata (Singh, 1969) is recorded for the first time from China.

In the present paper, a new genus Fractata gen. nov., and a new species, F. sinuata sp. nov. from Yunnan Province in southwest China of the tribe Erythroneurini of Typhlocybinae are described and illustrated.

The erythroneurine genus Alnetoidia is redescribed and four new species are described and illustrated from China. A species checklist and a taxonomic key to species is also provided.

Generic characteristics of Salka Dworakowska are given and nine new species, Salka crassiprocessa, S. lamella, S. jianfengensis, S. diaoluoensis, S. nangongensis, S. longiprocessa, S. jiangshiensis, S. longihamata and S. singularis spp. n. from China are described and illustrated. A key to males and a species checklist of Chinese Salka are provided.

The 35 previously described species (including 4 junior synonyms) of the New World erythroneurine leafhopper genus Zyginama are reviewed and descriptions are provided for 43 new species, 2 from U.S.A., 26 from Mexico, 1 from Panama, and 14 from the Amazon region of South America. The following new synonyms are recognized: Z. aucta (McAtee) equals Erythroneura bilocularis Van Duzee, syn. n., and E. inclita Beamer, syn. n.; Z. nicholi (Beamer) equals E. canyonensis Beamer, syn. n., and E. ales Beamer, syn. n. Separate keys are provided for identification of males from North and South America, all known species are illustrated, and data on their distributions are summarized. Phylogenetic analysis of 40 morphological characters of the 71 species for which males are known yielded a reasonably well resolved estimate of relationships among the included species, but branch support was low overall.

Species of Erythroneurini (Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae) currently placed in the genus Zygina and found in Australia, New Zealand and some neighbouring islands are transferred to the new genus Anzygina, type species Erythroneura sidnica Kirkaldy, following comparison with the type species of the genus: Typhlocyba nivea Mulsant and Rey. New combinations are Anzygina sidnica (Kirkaldy), Anzygina honiloa (Kirkaldy), Anzygina melanogaster (Kirkaldy) and Anzygina sativae (Evans) from Australia, Anzygina toetoe (Cumber), Anzygina agni (Knight), Anzygina dumbletoni (Ghauri) and Anzygina ramsayi (Knight) from New Zealand, Anzygina zealandica (Myers) from Australia and New Zealand, Anzygina jowettae (Knight) from Norfolk Island and Anzygina medioborealis (Ghauri) from Papua New Guinea. Lectotypes are designated for Erythroneura honiloa Kirkaldy and E. sidnica Kirkaldy. Anzygina billi sp.n. is described from SE Qld, and Anzygina barrattae sp.n. is described from the South Island of New Zealand. A. agni is a new record for Australia and is presumed to be Australian in origin. A. dumbletoni has a distribution which suggests that it also is introduced to New Zealand although its origins are not known. A. ramsayi, A. barrattae and A. toetoe, all of which appear to be New Zealand endemics, show affinity with each other based on aedeagal structure. A key to these species, based on males, is provided. The lack of male syntypes for Erythroneura honiala Kirkaldy and Erythroneura lubra Kirkaldy precludes establishment of their identities relative to other species of the genus, and both names are regarded as having nomen dubium status. Australian species not transferred to Anzygina are Zygina evansi (Ross) and Zygina ipoloa (Kirkaldy), both of which belong elsewhere.

This paper provides a check list and a key of Chinese species of the genus Thaia Ghauri, One new species, T. anchora sp. nov., from southwestern China is added to the genus and a key to the species recorded from China is provided.

This review provides descriptions, illustrations, keys for identification, and summaries of distributions and host plants for all known species of the genera Erythroneura (54 species), Erasmoneura (12 species), Rossmoneura (3 species), and Hymetta (5 species). Erythroneura browni sp.n., E. ortha sp.n., E. carinata sp.n., E. glabra sp.n., E. bakeri sp.n., E. kerzhneri sp.n. from Central and Eastern USA, E. triapitsyni sp.n. from New Mexico, Erasmoneura margaritae sp.n. from Illinois, and E. emeljanovi sp.n. from South Carolina are described as new. Neotypes are designated for Erythroneura octonotata Walsh, E. tricincta Fitch, and Hymetta trifasciata Say.

A new species Erasmoneura tricuspidata sp.n. and a new morphological variant of Erythridula stolata McAtee are described from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

A new genus of tribe Erythroneurini from Thailand, Songana gen. nov., and a new species Songana muscula sp. n., is described and illustrated.

The leafhopper species Tautoneura polymitusa Oh & Jung, 2016 (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae: Erythroneurini), described recently from Korea, is recorded from Hungary, representing the first known European occurrence of the species and also of the genus Tautoneura Anufriev, 1969. The species is illustrated, its diagnostic characters are discussed and compared with those of the closely related congeners. The occurrence of T. polymitusa in three isolated localities in Hungary and regular records in Budapest over a period of five years since 2012 indicate that stable populations exist in Hungary, the species is probably already established and it is locally abundant. It is apparently associated with elm trees (Ulmus spp.) and other members of the plant family Ulmaceae. Its further spread in Europe is expected.

The leafhopper genus Salka Dworakowska, 1972 belongs to the Typhlocybinae tribe Erythroneurini with Zygina nigricans Matsumura, 1932 as its type species. The known species of this genus are distributed in the Oriental and Palearctic regions. Recently, it was reviewed by Zhang et al. (2009), Ohara (2012) and Song & Li (2012). Seventy-eight species are known, including 36 species from China. In this present work, two new species from China are described and illustrated. All specimens examined are deposited to the collection of the Institute of Entomology, Guizhou University, China (GUGC).

A new genus of Erythroneurini from China and four new species, Irenaneura dorsispina, I. dworakowski, I. longiprocessa, I. bifurcata spp. nov. are described and illustrated, and a key for the identification of adult males is provided.

Eight new species of the erythroneurine genus Salka are described and illustrated from the Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan: S. denticulata sp. nov., S. circumflexa sp. nov., S. okinawana sp. nov., S. diversa sp. nov., S. dimorpha sp. nov., S. maesatoensis sp. nov., S. nusukuensis sp. nov. and S. trimaculata sp. nov.
