- Abstract
In this article, the research on incompleteness experiencesin obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is reviewed.Empircal data concerning the phenomenologicaldifferentiation between self-related incompleteness (SI)and ‘not just right experiences’ (NJREs) are presented.Diagnosticinstruments and empirical results concerningfrequency, association with different symptom-based subtypesand with symptom severity as well as the specificityof NJREs for OCD are outlined. Considerations and resultsconcerning the theoretical conceptualization of incompletenessphenomena are summarized (SI as an OCD-specificform of depersonalisation/derealization, with the‘Two-Stages-Model’ as an etiological hypothesis; NJREsas sensation-based perfectionism related to obsessivecompulsivepersonality features and tic disorders, with apresumed neurobiological origin). So far, there is a lack ofstudies evaluating modifications of cognitive-behavioralmethods tailored to incompleteness-related OCD.
