Homogeneous extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMFs) alter biological phenomena, including the cell phenotype and proliferation rate. Heterogenous vortex magnetic fields (VMFs), a new approach of exposure to magnetic fields, induce systematic movements on charged biomolecules from target cells; however, the effect of VMFs on living systems remains uncertain. Here, we designed, constructed, and characterized an ELF-VMF-modified Rodin's coil to expose SH-SY5Y cells. Samples were analyzed by performing 2D-differential-gel electrophoresis, identified by MALDI-TOF/TOF, validated by western blotting, and characterized by confocal microscopy. A total of 106 protein spots were differentially expressed; 40 spots were downregulated and 66 were upregulated in the exposed cell proteome, compared to the control cell proteome. The identified spots are associated with cytoskeleton and cell viability proteins, and according to the protein-protein interaction network, a significant interaction among them was found. Our data revealed a decrease in cell survival associated with apoptotic cells without effects on the cell cycle, as well as evident changes in the cytoskeleton. We demonstrated that ELF-VMFs, at a specific frequency and exposure time, alter the cell proteome and structurally affect the target cells. This is the first report showing that VMF application might be a versatile system for testing different hypotheses in living systems, using appropriate exposure parameters.© 2022 Bioelectromagnetics Society.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In the oral cavity, clinical manifestations are considered atypical lesions. The aim of this study was to report an unusual granular ulcer secondary oral TB that does not heal, chronic, had irregular appearance with deep depression of 2 cm in diameter, and was located in buccal mucosa of the premolar area–the left mandibular arch, of a 42-year-old woman. The patient was subjected to surgical excision of ulcer in its entirety and accordingly a periodontal plastic surgery in the area of the lesion was performed positioning an autograft subepithelial connective tissue. We obtained optimal results in improving oral health, function, and patient’s comfort, in postoperative controls at 15, 30, and 60 days, respectively.

This article proposes a systemic review of the protection of privacy in the Chilean Constitution, understood not only by the norms of Article 19 No. 4, the right to privacy and the right to the protection of personal data, but also through the normative content provided by No. 5, which comprises the rights to the inviolability of the home, private communications and documents, subject to constitutional protection. When we conceive the privacy protection standards set out in Chilean constitutional law as a system, we can appreciate that despite the obvious differences between the different rights that form this system, there are areas where they do intersect or overlap when applying them to specific facts. This wide scope of protection is essential to apply the right to privacy as a strong defence against the threats and risks posed by the use of digital technologies. Los residuos agrícolas y pastos henificados con más de 150 d de rebrote se caracterizan por su alto contenido en fibra y Pleurotus ostreatus digiere lignina, celulosa y hemicelulosa. La hipótesis fue que Pleurotus ostreatus mejora las características químicas y el valor nutricional de rastrojos y pasturas para la alimentación pecuaria. El objetivo fue determinar las características químicas de valor nutricional, producción de biogás y degradaciones in vitro de rastrojo de maíz y pasto mulato (Brachiaria híbrido) tratado con las cepas MR y P15 de P. ostreatus por 15 y 30 d en fermentación sólida. Las cepas se reactivaron en agar papa-dextrosa y se propagó en sorgo. En un matraz Erlenmeyer se colocaron 50 g de sustrato estéril (80% de humedad) y 5% de inóculo y se fermentaron por 15 y 30 d. Al término, se determinaron las características químicas de valor nutricional, se estimó la producción de biogás y metano (CH4) y degradaciones de materia seca (DMS) y de fibra detergente neutro (DFDN). El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar con arreglo factorial 23. Los fermentos de rastrojo de maíz en 30 d presentaron contenido mayor de proteína cruda. El contenido menor de fibra detergente neutro (FDN) estuvo en rastrojo de maíz con cualquier cepa. El rastrojo de maíz con P15 redujo más fibra detergente ácido (FDA) que MR. El fermento con 30 d mostró mayor FDA en los sustratos evaluados. El pasto mulato con la cepa MR produjo más biogás acumulado que con P15. Los fermentos con 30 d produjeron más biogás acumulado que los de 15 d (p≤0.05). Ni los sustratos ni las cepas mostraron diferencias en la producción de CH4 acumulado (p>0.05). Los fermentos de 30 d con cualquier cepa en rastrojo de maíz mostraron DMS y DFDN mayores (p≤0.05). Pleurotus ostreatus mejoró el contenido de nutrientes y las características fermentativas in vitro de rastrojo de maíz y pasto mulato tratados por fermentación sólida.

Jacquinia macrocarpa, a plant native to northwestern Mexico, has an inhibitory effect against phytopathogenic fungi. Previous studies have shown that the butanolic extract of J. macrocarpa causes retardation and atrophy in mycelial growth of Fusarium verticillioides. However, the action mechanism of this extract is unknown. We used a proteomics approach to understand the inhibitory effect of J. macrocarpa butanolic extract, based on differential protein accumulation in F. verticillioides. Proteins were extracted from F. verticillioides cultured in Czapek broth with and without 202.12 μg/mL (IC50) of butanolic extract of J. macrocarpa. Thirty-eight protein spots showing statistically significant changes (ANOVA, p < 0.01) and at least a 2-fold change in abundance between experimental conditions were analyzed by mass spectrometry. Identified proteins were grouped into different biological processes according to Gene Ontology, among them were amino acid metabolism, protein folding and stabilization, protein degradation, protein transport, carbohydrate metabolism, oxidative stress response, and miscellaneous. This work is the first report of changes in the proteomic profile of F. verticillioides exposed to the J. macrocarpa extract. This information provides new insights into the inhibitory mechanism of the extract and represents a starting point for dissection of the fungal response against the J. macrocarpa extract components.

10. Regional flow climatology for central Mexico (Queretaro): a first case study

A flow climatology was established for the Metropolitan Area of Queretaro (MAQ), in central Mexico, by analyzing four years (2014-2017) of back-trajectories generated using the HYSPLIT Model. Two flow regimes were found: one from June until September (rainy regime); the other from December to May (dry regime). October and November were considered transition months. Northeasterly flows were present throughout the year; in contrast, trajectories from the southwest were much less frequent and observed mainly during the dry regime. An analysis of the wind fields from the NARR database for a longer period of time (1979 – 2019), suggests that these results are representative of the average conditions of the atmosphere at the study site. Some of the northeasterly trajectories observed originate within a desertic region of the state of Queretaro, where several limestone mines are located. During the dry regime and transition months some clusters originate at the industrial area in Guanajuato, which includes the Salamanca refinery. As air transport of pollutants follow these paths, this analysis could be useful for identifying regional sources that affect the MAQ and possibly increase its air pollution load. In fact, the variability of criteria pollutants concentrations matched the flow regimes described above.

11. Caracterización productiva y socioeconómica del sistema de producción ovina, en un área natural protegida de México

Ante el incremento de la presencia humana y sus actividades productivas en áreas naturales protegidas, se planteó el objetivo de caracterizar el sistema de producción ovina, en el Nevado de Toluca, con información agrícola, socioeconómica y uso de los recursos de pastoreo. Un total de 162 productores fueron entrevistados, se analizaron 25 variables con estadística multivariada y univariada. Mediante análisis de componentes principales se obtuvieron seis factores que explican el 71 % de la varianza. El análisis cluster permitió identificar tres grupos de productores: pequeños (28 %), intermedios (35 %) y capitalizados (6 %), diferenciados por el número de animales, superficie cultivada e ingresos (P0.05) y se encontró que los rebaños aportan menos del 30 % del ingreso familiar. El 58 % de los rebaños ingresa al bosque, para realizar pastoreo circulante, pero el 60 % se maneja semi-estabulado. Se concluye que la producción del sistema no depende de la capitalización del productor, pero el rebaño es esencial en la economía familiar, y el manejo de los animales es compatible con los esfuerzos de conservación del área natural protegida.

Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate periodontal disease as a predictor of chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage in older adults. Methods A total of 1159 adults aged 65 to 80 years and diagnosed with periodontal disease and CKD (stages 1, 2, and 3) were randomly selected for a cross-sectional study. Periodontal status was assessed using the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN) and CKD was staged using the National Kidney Foundation Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (NKF-KDOQI) guidelines. Results In patients with stage 1 CKD, the odds ratios (ORs) (95% confidence intervals [CIs]) for CPITN-1, CPITN-2, CPITN-3, and CPITN-4 were 1.13 (0.83–1.55), 1.47 (1.13–1.81), 1, and 1, respectively. In patients with stage 2 CKD, the ORs (95% CIs) for CPITN-1, CPITN-2, CPITN-3, and CPITN-4 were 1.49 (1.14–1.93), 1.37 (1.02–1.78), 3.07 (2.81–3.25), and 3.65 (3.49–3.71), respectively. In patients with stage 3 CKD, the ORs (95% CIs) for CPITN-1, CPITN-2, CPITN-3, and CPITN-4 were 1, 1, 4.61 (4.47–5.21), and 5.23 (5.14–5.47), respectively. Conclusion The highest CPITN values (CPITN-3 and CPITN-4) were associated with CKD stages 2 and 3. Thus, periodontal disease may be associated with progression of CKD.

The objective of this study was to evaluate feed intake and digestibility and ruminal characteristics of development-stage calves fed mulatto II (Brachiaria sp.) grass hay (MGH) and a protein supplement (PS) consisting of increasing levels of the parota (Enterolobium cyclocarpum) pod (PP). We used eight Swiss-zebu calves in growth stage with an average age of 11 months and initial average weight of 157.6 ± 8.5 kg. They were distributed in a repeated 4 × 4 Latin square design with 4 treatments (period 30 days): 0% (PP0), 25% (PP25), 50% (PP50), and 75% (PP75) of the PP. Calves in the PP0 and PP25 treatments had higher intake of PS and MGH as dry matter (DM) than those in the PP50 and PP75 treatments (p 0.05). Rumen pH in the PP0 calves was higher than that of the PP25 calves, whereas the protozoa count and ammonia content were higher in PP0 calves than in PP75 (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the inclusion of 25% PP in the PS for forage-fed calves is a feeding alternative.

Purpose:RPGRIP1 encodes a ciliary protein expressed in the photoreceptor connecting cilium. Mutations in this gene cause ∼5% of Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) worldwide, but are also associated with cone–rod dystrophy (CRD) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP) phenotypes. Our purpose was to clinically characterize RPGRIP1 patients from our cohort, collect clinical data of additional RPGRIP1 patients reported previously in the literature, identify common clinical features, and seek genotype–phenotype correlations.Methods: Clinical data were collected from 16 patients of our cohort and 212 previously reported RPGRIP1 patients and included (when available) family history, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), refraction, comprehensive ocular examination, optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging, visual fields (VF), and full-field electroretinography (ffERG).Results: Out of 228 patients, the majority (197, 86%) were diagnosed with LCA, 18 (7%) with RP, and 13 (5%) with CRD. Age of onset was during early childhood (n = 133, average of 1.7 years). All patients but 6 had moderate hyperopia (n = 59, mean of 4.8D), and average BCVA was 0.06 Snellen (n = 124; only 10 patients had visual acuity [VA] > 0.10 Snellen). On funduscopy, narrowing of blood vessels was noted early in life. Most patients had mild bone spicule-like pigmentation starting in the midperiphery and later encroaching upon the posterior pole. OCT showed thinning of the outer nuclear layer (ONL), while cystoid changes and edema were relatively rare. VF were usually very constricted from early on. ffERG responses were non-detectable in the vast majority of cases. Most of the mutations are predicted to be null (363 alleles), and 93 alleles harbored missense mutations. Missense mutations were identified only in two regions: the RPGR-interacting domain and the C2 domains. Biallelic null mutations are mostly associated with a severe form of the disease, whereas biallelic missense mutations usually cause a milder disease (mostly CRD).Conclusion: Our results indicate that RPGRIP1 biallelic mutations usually cause severe retinal degeneration at an early age with a cone–rod pattern. However, most of the patients exhibit preservation of some (usually low) BCVA for a long period and can potentially benefit from gene therapy. Missense changes appear only in the conserved domains and are associated with a milder phenotype.

They were distributed in a repeated 4 × 4 Latin square design with 4 treatments (period 30 days): 0% (PP0), 25% (PP25), 50% (PP50), and 75% (PP75) of the PP. Calves in the PP0 and PP25 treatments had higher intake of PS and MGH as dry matter (DM) than those in the PP50 and PP75 treatments (p0.05). Organic matter intake (OMI) of the PP75 calves was lower than that of PP0 and PP25 calves. Crude protein intakes (CPI) of PP0 and PP25 calves were higher than those of PP50 and PP75 calves (p0.05). Apparent digestibility of crude protein was higher in the PP0, PP25, and PP50 treatments compared with that in treatment PP75 (p0.05). The treatments did not affect total bacterial count, cellulolytic bacterial count, cellulase enzymatic activity, volatile fatty acids, or the acetate/propionate ratio (p0.05). Rumen pH in the PP0 calves was higher than that of the PP25 calves, whereas the protozoa count and ammonia content were higher in PP0 calves than in PP75 (p0.05). In conclusion, the inclusion of 25% PP in the PS for forage-fed calves is a feeding alternative.

This study aimed to determine the ability of Fusarium verticillioides in developing mechanisms to counteract the antifungal effect of a fraction from Jacquinia macrocarpa plant extract (JmAF), as well as the morphological and physiological changes that occur during its exposure. The fungus was exposed to JmAF during consecutive periods. A culture sample was taken weekly to determine radial growth, spore germination and size, and fungal β-1,3-glucanase activity. The results showed that, in the beginning, the radial growth decreased by 85.8%, and spore germination was delayed. As the exposure continued, the fungus showed a recovery, to some extent, in its original characteristics. However, the radial growth of the fungus continued to be inhibited (42.9%) throughout the experiment (7 weeks). The β-1,3-glucanase activity also was inhibited by 36.4% during the first week of exposure to JmAF. However, the activity was recovered after 7 weeks of exposure.

A study of elemental composition of PM2.5 samples collected at the main campus of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, comprising data from 2015, 2016, and 2019, is described. X-ray fluorescence analysis was employed to measure concentrations of up to 19 elements, complemented with ion chromatography for eight ionic species (for samples of 2015 and 2016), and thermo-optical analysis for organic and elemental carbon (for samples of 2015). Positive matrix factorization (PMF) was applied to develop receptor models for each year, to identify polluting sources and their contributions to total mass. Five sources were identified in every case. With the aid of PMF, the influence of biomass burning on a major episode in May, 2019, was recognized. Comparisons with previous studies in this or nearby sites are also presented. It should be noted that only limited compositional data in this site are available since 2005 for the aerosol fine fraction.

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the surface roughness of the implant-retained mandibular bar overdenture (BOD) and the implant-retained mandibular ball joint overdenture (BJOD) in jaw and its relation with the adhesion of molds and yeasts and mesophyll aerobe, in time 30 and 180 days in mouth. Materials and Methods: Five-systems titanium bar CARES® and synOcta® Straumann® Dental Implant System, Holding AG Inc., Basel, Switzerland (BOD), and five-systems joint ball Klockner® Implant System; Soadco Inc., Escaldes-Engordany; Andorra (BJOD), were used in two parallel groups of five participants, in an essay to simple blind person. To 30 and 180 days, the overdentures were withdrawn and evaluated the Ra: ųm. SJ-301® Mitutoyo Corporation Inc., Kanagawa, Japan, and the adhesion of microorganisms (colony-forming unit/ml). Results: The results were as follows: the Ra: Um (30th and 180th): BOD, 0.965–1.351; BJOD, 1.325–2.384. Adhesion: Molds and yeasts, BOD, 2.6 × 102 and 4.6 × 103; BJOD, 3.0 × 102 and 5.3 × 104. Adhesion: Mesophyll aerobe, BOD, 3.8 × 106 and 5.8 × 106; BJOD, 4.3 × 106 and 7.1 × 107. Conclusions: At 30 days (P = 0.489), there were no differences in BOD and BJOD for adhesion of molds and yeasts and mesophyll aerobe between both overdentures. At 180 days (P = 0.723), there were differences in the adhesion of mold and yeast and mesophyll aerobe, being greater in BJOD.

Purpose To describe a case of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) in a patient immediately following administration of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Observations The patient complained of paracentral scotoma supported by paracentral visual field loss on multiple Humphrey visual fields that corresponded to outer retinal pathology on optical coherence tomography. The patient's symptoms resolved without treatment. Conclusions and Importance We conclude that the clinical testing demonstrated findings consistent with AMN. AMN may be an exceedingly rare adverse ocular effect of a novel vaccine and likely only in the setting of multiple other risk factors. Despite this, we strongly recommend vaccination against COVID-19.

What pathways specify retinal ganglion cell (RGC) fate in the developing retina? Here we report on mechanisms by which a molecular pathway involving Sox4/Sox11 is required for RGC differentiation and for optic nerve formation in micein vivo, and is sufficient to differentiate human induced pluripotent stem cells into electrophysiologically active RGCs. These data place Sox4 downstream of RE1 silencing transcription factor in regulating RGC fate, and further describe a newly identified, Sox4-regulated site for post-translational modification with small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMOylation) in Sox11, which suppresses Sox11's nuclear localization and its ability to promote RGC differentiation, providing a mechanism for the SoxC familial compensation observed here and elsewhere in the nervous system. These data define novel regulatory mechanisms for this SoxC molecular network, and suggest pro-RGC molecular approaches for cell replacement-based therapies for glaucoma and other optic neuropathies.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENTGlaucoma is the most common cause of blindness worldwide and, along with other optic neuropathies, is characterized by loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). Unfortunately, vision and RGC loss are irreversible, and lead to bilateral blindness in ∼14% of all diagnosed patients. Differentiated and transplanted RGC-like cells derived from stem cells have the potential to replace neurons that have already been lost and thereby to restore visual function. These data uncover new mechanisms of retinal progenitor cell (RPC)-to-RGC and human stem cell-to-RGC fate specification, and take a significant step toward understanding neuronal and retinal development and ultimately cell-transplant therapy.

The oxidative stress damage on cells is an example of roles in the pathogenesis of different degenerative diseases and the search of compounds that can slow this oxidation is continuous. The aim of this work was to obtain bioactive fractions from wild shrimp (Litopenaeus stylirostris) muscle, in order to evaluate their protective capacity and chemo-structurally characterize them. ABTS and DPPH, and FRAP assays suggested that bioactive fractions possess free radical-scavenging capacity, and reducing power, respectively. An inhibitory effect observed on AAPH-induced hemolysis and results from an H2O2-derived radicals-scavenging assay (retinoprotective) suggest that these fractions can exert their protective activity in human cells. UV–Vis, fluorescence, 13C-, 1H-NMR, and ESI-MS studies performed on the most bioactive fraction, suggests that their main components are eicosapentaenoic acid, dioctyl phthalate, and a possibly novel indolocarbazole alkaloid derivative. These results suggest that these compounds are good candidates to further investigations as possible chemoprotective agents.

El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el efecto de clorhidrato de zilpaterol (CZ) sobre la ganancia de peso y las características de la canal en corderos finalizados en pradera de alfalfa y suplementados con concentrado en corral. Un total de 24 corderos machos enteros Dorper x Pelibuey, con peso vivo inicial de 25.0 ± 0.24 kg, fueron divididos en dos grupos (n=12) y alimentados con 0 o 10 mg/cabeza/día de CZ los últimos 30 días antes del sacrificio. Durante el periodo experimental, todos los corderos pastorearon en alfalfa 8 h/día y se suplementaron con 450 g/d de concentrado. El CZ no afectó (P>0.05) el peso vivo. Las ganancias de peso diaria y total fueron similares (P>0.05) entre ambos grupos. Las características de canal y el rendimiento de cortes primarios no fueron afectados (P>0.05) por el CZ. En conclusión, el clorhidrato de zilpaterol a una dosis de 10 mg/cabeza/día no mejoró el crecimiento ni las características de canal en corderos finalizados en pradera de alfalfa y suplementados con concentrado.

En estos días, a fines de 2020, se discute en el Congreso Nacional de Chile, el proyecto de ley que implementa el Convenio de Budapest sobre Cibercrimen y que deroga la Ley Nº19.223 sobre delitos informáticos de 1993. Un proyecto largamente anhelado por la comunidad técnica vinculada a la ciberseguridad y por la comunidad científica del derecho y la tecnología, que, por largos años, ha evidenciado las insuficiencias de la ley vigente —aprobada antes de la existencia y masificación de la web— en múltiples conferencias, seminarios y artículos de doctrina, muchos de ellos publicados en nuestras páginas. Entre las innovaciones que considera el proyecto de ley, varias de ellas fruto del aporte de parlamentarias y parlamentarios interesados en este tema, queremos destacar la incorporación de normas que tienen por objeto proteger legalmente la búsqueda y notificación de vulnerabilidades de ciberseguridad. De aprobarse una disposición expresa que exima de responsabilidad penal a los investigadores en ciberseguridad que habiendo encontrado una vulnerabilidad en una red, sistema o programa computacional, notifiquen inmediatamente de ella a la entidad responsable y, eventualmente, a la autoridad pública competente, Chile pasaría a tener no solo una legislación moderna sino que también de vanguardia en la región y el mundo.

Resumen: El 2020 será un año inolvidable en muchos sentidos. A la pandemia generada por el COVID-19 y al confinamiento parcial de las personas para intentar detener su propagación —parcial porque todavía una buena parte de la población, al menos en Chile y América Latina, debe salir de sus hogares para buscar el sustento diario— debemos sumar, en lo que al derecho y la tecnología le compete en este contexto, un embate fuerte y la instalación —a veces fallida y otras tantas exitosa— de una supuesta tensión entre los derechos a la privacidad y a la protección de datos personales con el valor de la seguridad, en este caso, en su acepción seguridad sanitaria. En el plano normativo, en junio de 2020 se cumplieron dos años de la entrada en vigencia de la reforma constitucional que consagró el derecho a protección de los datos personales en Chile, al incorporarla expresamente en el numeral 4 del artículo 19 de la Constitución vigente.

To determine the relationship between the frequency of work-related stress and prevalence of functional dyspepsia in a sample of 218 military older 50 years in 2010 in Lima Military Hospital Geriatric.Descriptive and explanatory study and for the data collection on stress, were used the Vital Events Scale Holmes-Rahe and clinical records for clinical and upper endoscopy registration that comply the criteria of Rome III for functional dyspepsia. For processing and data analysis the statistical software package SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) was used.100% of military showed some level of work stress during the study year; thus, 36.7% had a high level, 31.2% medium or moderate level, and 32.1% had low stress level; these percentages medium and high stress levels accounted for 67.9%. These results establish that job stress is a common discomfort in the study population (tabulated Chi2 = 3.841, chi2 observed = 27,908). Regarding functional dyspepsia prevalence of 37.2%, which indicates that it is a common condition in those military (tabular Z = 1.96, Z c = 9.163) it was determined.There is a significant relationship between the frequency of work-related stress and prevalence of functional dyspepsia in military activity in older than 50 years (tabulated Chi2 = 5.991, chi2 observed = 28,878, contingency coefficient = 0.342).

The central nervous system (CNS) consists of complex groups of individual cells that receive electrical, chemical, and physical signals from their local environment. Standard in vitro cell culture methods rely on two-dimensional (2D) substrates that poorly simulate in vivo neural architecture. Neural cells grown in three-dimensional (3D) culture systems may provide an opportunity to study more accurate representations of the in vivo environment than 2D cultures. Furthermore, each specific type of neuron depends on discrete compositions and physical properties of their local environment. Previously, we developed a library of hydrogels composed of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(L-lysine) (PLL) which exhibit a wide range of mechanical properties. Here, we identified specific scaffolds from this library that readily support the survival, migration and neurite outgrowth of purified retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and amacrine cells (ACs). These data address important biological questions about the interaction of neurons with the physical and chemical properties of their local environment and provide further insight for engineering neural tissue for cell-replacement therapies following injury.

Objetivo: Verificar, analizar y evaluar los procedimientos utilizados y la forma de como ofrecen sus productos las empresas comercializadoras del distrito de Barranca, para determinar la contribución del merchandising en la mejora de sus procesos de venta. Métodos: Se aplicó la técnica de muestreo aleatorio simple, obteniéndose una muestra de 304 empresas comercializadoras. Resultados: Permitieron conocer que el 77,96% de las empresas desconocía el merchandising, y que un 72,04% de comerciantes están dispuestos a cambiar su forma de venta. Conclusiones: Existe un alto nivel de desconocimiento del merchandising por parte de los empresarios de este sector. En relación a la utilización de las técnicas del merchandising en el punto de ventas, el 71,71% no aplica esta técnica en sus puntos de venta, pues solo el 40,13% realiza el surtido de línea de productos de manera continua, y solamente el 38.82% de las empresas hacen mejoras en su ambiente interno.Palabras clave: Merchandising, ventas, gestión.

Rectal temperature (RT) is the foremost physiological variable indicating if an animal is suffering hyperthermia. However, this variable is traditionally measured by invasive methods, which may compromise animal welfare. Models to predict RT have been developed for growing pigs and lactating dairy cows, but not for pregnant heat-stressed ewes. Our aim was to develop a prediction equation for RT using non-invasive physiological variables in pregnant ewes under heat stress. A total of 192 records of respiratory frequency (RF) and hair coat temperature in various body regions (i.e., head, rump, flank, shoulder, and belly) obtained from 24 Katahdin × Pelibuey pregnant multiparous ewes were collected during the last third of gestation (i.e., d 100 to lambing) with a 15 d sampling interval. Hair coat temperatures were taken using infrared thermal imaging technology. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common mesenchymatous neoplasms of the human digestive tract. They locate preferentially in stomach, duodenum or small bowel. Usually sporadic, familial cases unrelated to neurofibromatosis may be due to germline mutations in KIT or PDGFRA. We describe the first Argentine family with GIST in which we found, diffuse cutaneous melanosis, lentiginosis, and dysphagia. Dysphagia was not observed in the four families previously described with the same mutation. Histopathology resulted consistent with GIST, and tumor immunohistochemistry was likewise positive for DOG-1, CD117 (KIT) and CD34. The search for germline mutations identified the KIT c.1697TC (p.559VA) substitution in exon 11. Treatment with imatinib is furnishing positive results.

Retinal degenerative diseases, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, affect millions of people worldwide and ultimately lead to retinal cell death and blindness. Cell transplantation therapies for photoreceptors demonstrate integration and restoration of function, but transplantation into the ganglion cell layer is more complex, requiring guidance of axons from transplanted cells to the optic nerve head in order to reach targets in the brain. Here we create a biodegradable electrospun (ES) scaffold designed to direct the growth of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) axons radially, mimicking axon orientation in the retina. Using this scaffold we observed an increase in RGC survival and no significant change in their electrophysiological properties. When analyzed for alignment, 81% of RGCs were observed to project axons radially along the scaffold fibers, with no difference in alignment compared to the nerve fiber layer of retinal explants. When transplanted onto retinal explants, RGCs on ES scaffolds followed the radial pattern of the host retinal nerve fibers, whereas RGCs transplanted directly grew axons in a random pattern. Thus, the use of this scaffold as a cell delivery device represents a significant step towards the use of cell transplant therapies for the treatment of glaucoma and other retinal degenerative diseases.

El presente artículo tiene por objeto describir y analizar el derecho de autor como un derecho humano de doble dimensión que comprende tanto el derecho de acceso a la cultura como el derecho de autor propiamente tal. Para ello, primero se identifican y caracterizan los denominados derechos culturales, para luego describir el derecho de acceso a la cultura como derecho cultural. Enseguida, se propone la doble dimensión del derecho de autor como forma correcta de interpretar las obligaciones de los instrumentos internacionales sobre derechos humanos en esta materia, y se examinan los límites internos que moldean el alcance y efectos de estos derechos.
