Cell-cell fusion studies provide an experimental platform for evaluating disease progression and investigating cell infection. However, to realize sensitive and quantitative detection on cell-cell fusion is still a challenge. Herein, we report a facile molecular beacon (MB)-based method for precise detection on cell-cell fusion. By transfection of the spike protein (S protein) and enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) in HEK 293 cells, the virus-mimicking fusogenic effector cells 293-S-EGFP cells were constructed to interact with target cells. Before mixing the effector cells with the target cells, the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) expression in 293-S-EGFP cells was silenced, and the MB for GAPDH mRNA detection was delivered into the GAPDH silenced 293-S-EGFP cells. Once cell-cell fusion occurred, MB migrated from the GAPDH silenced effector cells to the target cells and hybridized with GAPDH mRNA in the target cells to induce fluorescence emission. The cell-cell fusion can be easily visualized and quantitated by fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. The fluorescence intensity is strongly dependent on the number of fused target cells. This MB-based method can easily identify the differences in the cell fusions for various target cells with different angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) expression levels, resulting in dramatically different fluorescence intensities in fused target cells. Our study provides a convenient and efficient quantitative detection approach to study cell-cell fusion.

The root of the current education involution lies in the fact that the current education system can't meet people's demand for educational resources under the dual contradiction between employment and class. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the zero-sum exam competition represented by the college entrance examination. This paper puts forward that to solve the problem of education involution, we should handle the relationship between class contradiction, education equity, employment situation and education involution as a whole, and the concrete measures can be taken from the aspects of increasing rising channels, reforming the education system and alleviating employment pressure.

The impact of pediatric body mass index (BMI) trajectories on the risk of adolescent hypertension (HTN) determined by three separate visits remains unclear. This longitudinal study aims to identify potential pediatric sex-specific BMI trajectories and to assess their associations with HTN and HTN subtypes.Based on the Health Promotion Program for Children and Adolescents (HPPCA) in Suzhou, China, a total of 24,426 participants who had initial normal blood pressure (BP) and had at least four BMI measurements during 2012-2020 were included. HTN was defined as simultaneously having three separate visits of elevated BP in 2020. Latent class growth models were used to explore sex-specific BMI trajectories, whose associations with HTN and HTN subtypes were further examined by logistic regression.The incidence of HTN determined through three separate visits was 3.34%. Four trajectories were identified for both sexes: low BMI increasing, medium BMI increasing, high BMI increasing, and highest BMI increasing. Compared to the medium BMI increasing group, the odds ratio (95% confidential interval) for developing adolescent HTN of the low, high, and highest BMI increasing groups among boys were 0.54 (0.39, 0.75), 1.90 (1.44, 2.51), and 2.89 (1.90, 4.39), respectively; and the corresponding values for girls were 0.66 (0.48, 0.90), 2.30 (1.72, 3.09), and 4.71 (3.06, 7.26). Similar gradually elevated associations between different trajectories with isolated systolic hypertension, systolic and diastolic hypertension were observed.Current results emphasized the adverse effects of stable high BMI on HTN and the benefits of maintaining normal weight throughout childhood.

To study the heterogeneity of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) is of crucial importance to analyze cancer progression and metastasis. However, in situ detection of highly heterogeneous CTCs in peripheral blood still faces an elusive challenge. Here, we show direct detection of two metastasis-related mRNAs of diverse CTCs in whole blood by a triple-targeting nanoprobe. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the association between spinal alignment and preoperative patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DLS) and to identify the independent risk factors for worse preoperative PROs. Methods In total, 101 patients suffering from DLS were retrospectively studied within a single medical center. Age, sex, height, weight, and body mass index were uniformly recorded. PRO-related indicators include the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), the Japanese Orthopedic Association’s (JOA) score, and the visual analog scale (VAS) for back and leg pain. Sagittal alignment, coronal balance, and stability of the L4/5 level were evaluated through whole-spine anteroposterior and lateral radiographs and dynamic lumbar X-ray. Results Increasing age (P = 0.005), higher sagittal vertical axis (SVA) (P P = 0.023) were independent risk factors for higher ODI. Patients with GCI had lower JOA scores (P = 0.001) than those with balanced coronal alignment. Unstable spondylolisthesis (P P = 0.009) were two vital predictors of VAS-back pain. The potential toxicity of nanoparticles, especially for clinically applicable ones, has become a critical concern. Technologies that can in situ-evaluate the toxicity of nanoparticles with high sensitivity are urgently needed. In this study, a facile strategy was developed for sensitive detection on the nanotoxicity of nanoparticles with low toxicity or a low dose. A functional nanoprobe loaded with molecular beacons was constructed to realize in situ evaluation of the nanotoxicity through probing multiple miRNAs in nanoparticle-exposed living cells. Being composed of protamine complexed with molecular beacons for miRNA detection and decorated by TAT and KALA peptides, the dual-peptide functionalized nanoprobe can efficiently deliver molecular beacons into living cells to realize the real-time monitoring of early biomarkers (miR-21 and miR-221) to evaluate nanotoxicity. The emergence of new variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has generated recurring worldwide infection outbreaks. These highly mutated variants reduce the effectiveness of current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines, which are designed to target only the spike (S) protein of the original virus. Except for the S of SARS-CoV-2, the immunoprotective potential of other structural proteins (nucleocapsid, N; envelope, E; membrane, M) as vaccine target antigens is still unclear and worthy of investigation. In this study, synthetic DNA vaccines encoding four SARS-CoV-2 structural proteins (pS, pN, pE, and pM) were developed, and mice were immunized with three doses via intramuscular injection and electroporation. Notably, co-immunization with two DNA vaccines that expressed the S and N proteins induced higher neutralizing antibodies and was more effective in reducing the SARS-CoV-2 viral load than the S protein alone in mice. In addition, pS co-immunization with either pN or pE + pM induced a higher S protein-specific cellular immunity after three immunizations and caused milder histopathological changes than pS alone post-challenge. The role of the conserved structural proteins of SARS-CoV-2, including the N/E/M proteins, should be investigated further for their applications in vaccine design, such as mRNA vaccines.

Due to the dual effects of fluvial and tides, the tidal sand bars in estuaries have complex sedimentary characteristics and complex internal structures, making them difficult to predict and describe. In this paper, the sedimentary dynamics numerical simulation method is used to establish a tidal-controlled estuary model. The effects of tidal range and sediment grain size on tidal sand bars are simulated. The length, width, and thickness of tidal sand bars, as well as the length and thickness of the internal shale layer, are also analyzed. The results show that in the environment of a tide-controlled estuary, the tidal range has a more significant effect on tidal sand bars compared to the sediment grain size under the specific conditions used in this study. The main effect of tidal range on tidal sand bars is that the greater the tidal range, the greater the length-to-width ratio of the sandbank, and the higher the degree of sandbank development. In a tidal-controlled estuary environment, the formation and distribution of shale layer structures are also affected by tides: the length of the shale layer increases as the tidal energy increases, but the changes in the thickness are not obvious. Numerical simulations of the development and distribution of the tidal sand bars and shale layers in estuaries based on sedimentary dynamics will provide a basis for the sedimentary evolution of tide-controlled estuaries and will provide guidance for the exploration and development of tidal estuaries.

Repeated silica gel column chromatography, reversed-phase C_(18) column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography and semi-preparative medium pressure liquid chromatography were performed to separate and purify the chemical constituents of Hypericum lagarocladum. Spectroscopic methods such as mass spectrometry(MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) combined with physicochemical properties were adopted in identifying the structure of the isolated compounds. Ten compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of H. lagarocladum and identified as lagarxanthone A(1), 1,7-dihydroxyxanthone(2), 3,4,5-trihydroxyxanthone(3), 2,7-dihydroxy-1-methoxyxanthone(4), 1,3-dihydroxy-7-methoxyxanthone(5), 1,5-dihydroxy-8-methoxyxanthone(6), 3,4-dihydroxy-2-methoxyxanthone(7), 3,4-dihydroxy-5-methoxyxanthone(8), 2,3-dimethoxyxanthone(9), and 2,3,4-trimethoxyxanthone(10). Among them, compound 1 was a new compound, and compounds 2-10 were isolated from this plant for the first time. These ten compounds were tested for glucose uptake in L6 cells, and the results showed that all the compounds had no significant effect on glucose uptake.

Cashmere fineness is getting thicker, which is one of the key problems in cashmere breeding, however, there have been no systematic studies on the molecular regulation of cashmere fineness. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between KRT26 and TCHH gene polymorphism and production performance in Liaoning cashmere goats (LCG). The potential single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of LCG were detected by sequence alignment and PCR-Seq polymorphism of KRT26 and TCHH genes and analyzed the effect of SNPs on production performance by SPSS software. Two SNPs sites (A559T and A6839G) of two genes were detected. The AA genotype of KRT26 A559T locus was the dominant genotype. AG and GG at TCHH A6839G locus were the dominant genotypes. AAAA was the dominant haplotype combination. The results showed that KRT26 and TCHH genes were associated with cashmere fineness of LCG, and A559T (AA) and A6839G (GG) genotypes were the preferred marker genotypes for cashmere fineness, which provided more theoretical basis for further research on cashmere fineness.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide. The clinical treatment of ccRCC is strongly associated with the tumor microenvironment (TME). Identifying potential markers of ccRCC is important to improve prognosis. Therefore, in the present study, the levels of immune/stromal components and the proportion of tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs) were determined in 611 ccRCC samples using the ESTIMATE and CIBERSORT analytical tools. Subsequently, hydroxysteroid 11-beta dehydrogenase-1 (HSD11B1) was identified by univariate Cox regression analysis, protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks and clinical survival analysis to be associated with ccRCC prognosis. At the same time, the abundance of HSD11B1 increased significantly in ccRCC was verified by western blotting, RT‑qPCR and immunostaining analysis. Furthermore, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) and TME suggested that HSD11B1 was involved in TME immune-related status. Taken together, the results of the present study demonstrated that HSD11B1 is a potential prognostic biomarker associated with immune cell infiltration in ccRCC.

Background: Overexpression of LSD1 is associated with the occurrence of many diseases, including cancers, which makes LSD1 a significant target for anticancer drug research. Methodology & Results: With the aid of 3D quantitative structure–activity relationship models established with 34 reported resveratrol derivative LSD1 inhibitors, derivatives 35–40 were designed. Absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion calculations showed that they may have good bioavailability and drug likeness. Additionally, 35 and 37 presented good antitumor effects in an in vitro antiproliferative assay. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation results indicated that 35 and 37 can establish extensive interactions with LSD1. Conclusion: The results of computational prediction and experimental validation suggest that 35 and 37 are effective antitumor inhibitors, which provides some ideas and directions for the development of new anticancer LSD1 inhibitors.

Vonoprazan, a novel potassium-competitive acid blocking agent, has better clinical outcomes in the treatment of acid-related diseases. However, some adverse events have been associated with Vonoprazan for the treatment of acid-associated diseases. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to explore the safety and tolerability of Vonoprazan for acid-associated diseases.Electronic databases were retrieved to determine random control trials (RCTs) of Vonoprazan for acid-associated diseases with any adverse effects and discontinuation.This systematic review and meta-analysis conforming to the selection criteria included 18 RCTs with a total of 7,932 participants. Compared with proton pump inhibitors, oral Vonoprazan treatment showed no significant increase in the incidence of adverse effects (95% CI = 0.987-1.095, p = 0.141). Diarrhoea or loose stools analysis showed that there was a statistically significant difference between Vonoprazan and PPIs treatment (95% CI = 0.661-0.966, p = 0.021). While there was no significant difference in constipation, rash or eruption, nausea or vomiting, bloating or abdominal pain, dysgeusia, nasopharyngitis, neurological disorders, upper respiratory tract infection and abnormal investigations between Vonoprazan and PPIs treatment.Vonoprazan, which has better tolerability and safety, may significantly decrease diarrhoea and loose stools in acid-related patients compared with PPIs. Our meta-analysis led to safer strategies for treating acid-related diseases. More high-quality studies with larger sample sizes are needed to further identify its efficacy and safety.

Lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) is a histone-modifying enzyme, which is a significant target for anticancer drug research. In this work, 40 reported tetrahydroquinoline-derivative inhibitors targeting LSD1 were studied to establish the three-dimensional quantitative structure–activity relationship (3D-QSAR). The established models CoMFA (Comparative Molecular Field Analysis (q2 = 0.778, Rpred2 = 0.709)) and CoMSIA (Comparative Molecular Similarity Index Analysis (q2 = 0.764, Rpred2 = 0.713)) yielded good statistical and predictive properties. Based on the corresponding contour maps, seven novel tetrahydroquinoline derivatives were designed. For more information, three of the compounds (D1, D4, and Z17) and the template molecule 18x were explored with molecular dynamics simulations, binding free energy calculations by MM/PBSA method as well as the ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion) prediction. The results suggested that D1, D4, and Z17 performed better than template molecule 18x due to the introduction of the amino and hydrophobic groups, especially for the D1 and D4, which will provide guidance for the design of LSD1 inhibitors.

ObjectiveWe aimed to demonstrate characteristics of hypertension at three separate visits and its risk factors among children and adolescents based on a large school-based study in China.Materials and methodsBased on a large-scale ongoing monitoring program conducted in Suzhou, China, 59,679 children and adolescents aged 7–17 years from 60 public schools were enrolled during 2020 to 2021. Height, weight, and blood pressure (BP) were measured. Additional BP would be measured for hypertensive students at least 2 weeks later. Confirmed hypertension was defined as simultaneously BP meeting above or equal to 95th percentile for age, sex, and height at three separate visits. Odds ratio (ORs), and 95% CIs were calculated by logistic regression to identify risk factors for hypertension.ResultsPrevalence of hypertension at three separate visits were 20.4, 6.3, and 3.1%, respectively. Prevalence of confirmed isolated systolic hypertension, isolated diastolic hypertension, and systolic and diastolic hypertension were 1.9, 0.3, and 0.9%, respectively. Hypertension prevalence for stages 1 and 2 were 2.6 and 0.6%. Different hypertension prevalence were found among various age and gender groups. Boys [OR, 1.137 (95% CI, 1.033–1.251)], high age [OR, 3.326 (95% CI, 2.950–3.751)], urban residents [OR, 1.579 (95% CI, 1.417–1.760)], high-socioeconomic status [OR, 1.156 (95% CI, 1.039–1.286)] and body mass index category including overweight [1.883 (95% CI, 1.665–2.129)], obesity [4.049 (95% CI, 3.625–4.523)], and thinness [OR, 0.457 (95% CI, 0.306–0.683)] were associated with confirmed hypertension.ConclusionA single BP measurement would overestimate hypertension prevalence, about 3% Chinese children were hypertensive, early, and effective intervention around risk factors for hypertension should be taken.

This experiment aimed to explore the interaction of β-1,3-glucan and Clostridium perfringens on the growth performance, intestinal health and cecal microflora of broilers. A total of 384 one-day-old Arbor Acre broilers were sorted into 4 treatments with 6 replications. There were 2 factors in this trial: dietary β-1,3-glucan addition including 0 and 250 mg/kg, intestinal enteritis challenged with Clostridium perfringens attack or not. Results showed that Clostridium perfringens infection disrupted the integrity of the intestinal mucosa by reducing the jejunal Occludin and Claudin-1 mRNA expression of broiler chickens at 21 d of age (P0.05). Meanwhile, when considering Clostridium perfringens as the main effect, it also decreased the mRNA expression of the glucose transporter recombinant sodium/glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1) at d 21 and the fatty acid transporter liver fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP) at d 42 (P0.05) as well as affect cecum microbial diversity, especially in relative abundance of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. In addition, Clostridium perfringens infection reduced body weight, daily weight gain, and feed-gain ratio (FCR) in broilers at d 42 (P0.05). The dietary β-1,3-glucan could alleviate intestinal mucosal damage caused by the Clostridium perfringens to some extent. When considering β-1,3-glucan as the main effect, it increased the SGLT1 at 42 d of age (P0.05), and stabilized gut microbiota disorder caused by Clostridium perfringens. More over dietary β-1,3-glucan addition increased body weight at 42-day-old (P0.05), and improved daily weight gain and FCR during 1 to 42 d (P0.05). In conclusion, dietary β-1,3-glucan could improve growth performance and intestinal health in broilers infected with Clostridium perfringens.

Most recommender systems are essentially a contextually accurate matching between users and items with similarities. Thus, similarity is particularly important to the recommendation process. Furthermore, the highest goal of similarity is to simulate the subjective human feeling of similarity, i.e., to simulate objective feature engineering in a way that is as consistent with subjective feeling as possible. By studying the subjective cognition of similarity, we found that the process could be divided into two stages, namely, perception and comprehension. Perception has fuzziness in that deterministic data cannot accurately describe subjective perception and judge emotional tendencies. Second, comprehension has gradations such that a linear model easily underfits the similarity. To address these two problems, we proposed a new implicit social recommendation algorithm based on multilayer fuzzy perception similarity. An extensive experimental study conducted on benchmark datasets showed that the proposed algorithm is very competitive with some of the traditional recommendation algorithms and state-of-the-art neural network algorithms, especially in terms of the obtained rankings.

Large-size flexible biomass carbon membranes have been prepared by using inexhaustible chitosan (CS) as carbon source. The microstructure of carbon membranes depends on the pyrolysis temperature, and the resulting membrane has a porous honeycomb-like architecture with N-doping content of 6.3% after the pyrolysis at 1000 °C. The flexible carbon membranes can be directly used as self-standing electrodes for various batteries, that is, with no current collectors, organic binders, or additional conductive agents. The carbon membranes as anodes for potassium-ion batteries exhibit excellent rate performance and a stable reversible capacity of 146 mAh g−1 at 2 A g−1 after 500 cycles, and its sodium-ion storage remains 236 mAh g−1 after 70 cycles. The kinetic analysis of carbon membranes in batteries shows that the surface-controlled mechanism plays a decisive role in the potassium/sodium storage because the honeycomb structure and high proportion of pyridine N-doping can improve the adsorption of K+/Na+ ions and the conductivity. In addition, the main reasons for the capacity degradation of the carbon membrane under long cycle and different current densities are discussed. The CS-derived flexible carbon membranes show a promising application as cost-effective, binder-free electrodes in flexible batteries.

Control of the shape and uniformity of colloid particles is essential for realizing their functionality in various applications. Herein, we report a facile approach for the synthesis of narrowly dispersed anisotropic microparticles with well-defined raspberry-like and golf ball-like surface patterns. First, we demonstrate that hybrid raspberry-like particles can be achieved through a one-pot polymerization method using glycidyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (GPOSS) and pentaerythritol tetra(3-mercaptopropionate) (PETMP) as monomers. Varying the polymerization parameters such as catalyst loading, monomer concentration, and the molar ratio of monomers, we are able to regulate the sizes and surface protrusion numbers of these raspberry-like microparticles. The formation mechanism is attributed to a competition balance between thiol-epoxy reaction and thiol-thiol coupling reaction. The former promotes rapid formation of large core particles between PETMP and GPOSS droplets (which can serve as core particles), while the latter allows for generation of surface protrusions by PETMP self-polymerization, leading to the formation of raspberry-like surface patterns. Based on the different POSS contents in the surface protrusions and cores of the raspberry-like microparticles, we demonstrate that they can be used as precursors to produce microporous silica (sub)microparticles with golf ball-like morphology via pyrolysis subsequently. Overall, this work provides a facile yet controllable approach to synthesize narrowly dispersed anisotropic microparticles with diverse surface patterns.

Adding fumed silica (SiO2) has been considered as an effective method for tailoring the phase morphology and performance of elastomer-toughened plastic binary blends. It has been demonstrated that the selective distribution of SiO2 plays a decisive role in the mechanical properties of plastic/elastomer/SiO2 nanocomposites, especially for the impact toughness. In this work, we aim to illuminate the role of specific surface area in controlling their selective distribution of fumed SiO2 and consequent mechanical properties of plastic/elastomer binary blends. Three types of SiO2 with different specific surface areas were incorporated into polylactide/ethylene-co-vinyl-acetate (PLA/EVA) model blends by melt blending directly. It was found that the selective distribution of SiO2 is largely determined by their specific surface areas, i.e. SiO2 nanoparticles with low specific surface area has a stronger tendency to be located at the interface between PLA matrix and EVA dispersed phase as compared to those with high specific surface area. The specific surface area-dependent interfacial selective distribution of SiO2 is mainly attributed to the extent of increased viscosity of EVA dispersed phase in which SiO2 nanoparticles are initially dispersed and resultant migration rate of SiO2 nanoparticles. The interfacial localized SiO2 nanoparticles induce an obvious enhancement in the impact toughness with strength and modulus well maintained. More importantly, in the case of the same interfacial distribution, toughening efficiency is increased with the specific surface area of SiO2. Therefore, this is an optimum specific surface area of SiO2 for the toughening. This work not only provides a novel way to manipulate the selective distribution of SiO2 in elastomer-toughened plastic blends toward high-performance, but also gives a deep insight into the role of interfacial localized nanoparticles in the toughening mechanism.

Graphical abstract, GS-9669 is a non-nucleos(t)ide inhibitor (NNI) binding to the thumb site II of the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5B polymerase and has advanced into phase II trials. To clarify the drug resistance mechanisms of GS-9669 caused by M423T/I/V, L419M, R422K, and I482L mutations of NS5B polymerase (GT1b) and the receptor-ligand interactions during the binding process, a series of molecular simulation methods including molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and adaptive steered molecular dynamics (ASMD) simulations were performed for the wild-type (WT) and six mutant NS5B/GS-9669 complexes. The calculated results indicate that the binding free energies of the mutant systems are less negative than that of the WT system, indicating that these mutations will indeed cause NS5B to produce different degrees of resistance to GS-9669. The mutation-induced drug resistances are mainly caused by the loss of binding affinities of Leu419 and Trp528 with GS-9669 or the formation of multiple solvent bridges. Moreover, the ASMD calculations show that GS-9669 binds to the thumb II sites of the seven NS5B polymerases in distinct pathways without any obvious energy barriers. Although the recognition methods and binding pathways are distinct, the binding processes of GS-9669 with the WT and mutant NS5B polymerases are basically controlled thermodynamically. This study clearly reveals the resistance mechanisms of GS-9669 caused by M423T/I/V, L419M, R422K, and I482L mutations of HCV NS5B polymerase and provides some valuable clues for further optimization and design of novel NS5B inhibitors.

A typical application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is the surveillance of distant targets, where data collected by its cameras need to be transmitted back to a ground terminal (GT) for further processing. However, due to the high mobility of a UAV, the power consumption for transmitting data tasks might be very high, especially when the UAV is far away from the GT. To guarantee the energy-efficiency of the UAV, the collected data tasks can be preprocessed to reduce the amount of data transmitted, which can potentially save the power consumption of the UAV. In this article, a random walk model is implemented to capture the mobility of the UAV. Our design goal is to minimize the average power consumption of the UAV under the delay constraint. We adopt the probabilistic scheduling based on the Markov Decision Process (MDP) framework to schedule the transmission and computation of the data tasks in the UAV. The power-optimal scheduling policy can be obtained by converting the joint optimization problem to linear programming (LP), and thus the optimal power-delay tradeoff can be achieved. Finally, the optimization results are validated with extensive simulations.

ObjectiveTo estimate whether the new obesity indicator tri-ponderal mass index (TMI) has a better capacity to predict adolescent hypertension (HTN) and HTN subtypes at three separate blood pressure (BP) visits than the conventionally used body mass index (BMI).MethodsA total of 36,950 adolescents who had initial normal BP from 2012 to 2019 were included in Suzhou, China. HTN was defined as having three separate visits of elevated BP in 2020. The area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC), false-positive rate, false-negative rate, total misclassification rates, net reclassification improvement (NRI), and integrated discrimination improvement were calculated to compare the discriminative ability of HTN between BMI and TMI.ResultsTMI had better predictive abilities than BMI among all of the participants when predicting HTN (difference in AUC = 0.019, 95% CI = 0.007–0.031; NRI = 0.067, 95% CI = 0.008–0.127) and isolated systolic hypertension (difference in AUC = 0.021, 95% CI = 0.005–0.036; NRI = 0.106, 95% CI = 0.029–0.183). The difference in prediction abilities between BMI and TMI was more obvious in the subgroup of age ≥16. Also, TMI outperformed BMI in predicting adolescent HTN in girls but not in boys.ConclusionCompared with BMI, TMI may have a better predictive capacity for HTN, particularly in girls and older adolescents. TMI has the potential to be used as an effective predictor for HTN in clinic practice. Further studies are needed to verify the utility of TMI.

The development of highly efficient transition metal-based catalysts for overall water splitting is of extreme significance for promoting large-scale sustainable utilization of hydrogen energy and energy conversion. Herein, we report a novel 3D Ni3S2/Cu-NiCo LDH heterostructure nanosheet arrays grown on nickel foam as a promising bifunctional electrocatalyst for OER and HER. In this design, copper ions are firstly doped into NiCo LDH to tune the electronic structure and enhance the inherent activity of pristine LDH. Metallic Ni3S2 is then introduced to establish a coupling heterostructure interface with Cu-NiCo LDH to boost the conductivity and activity. The incorporation of Cu ions and Ni3S2 into NiCo LDH also creates more active sites through crystal structure disorder and interface defects. Moreover, the 3D hierarchical nanosheet arrays can accelerate the electrolyte diffusion, promote the rapid release of gas bubbles, and ensure fast electron/mass transport along with strong electrochemical stability. All these merits endow the materials with a superior overall water splitting ability in alkaline environment, showing the low overpotentials of 119 and 218 mV for OER and overpotentials of 156 and 304 mV for HER at 10 and 100 mA cm-2, respectively. Furthermore, the overall water electrolytic cell using Ni3S2/Cu-NiCo LDH as both electrodes can reach 100 mA cm-2 at 1.75 V with outstanding durability. This study provides new strategy and insights for the exploration of high activity non-noble metal catalysts for overall water splitting.

The introduction of a dual-functional interlayer into lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) provides many opportunities for restraining the "shuttle effect" and enhancing sluggish sulfur conversion kinetics. Tuning the band structure of the metal sulfide provides an opportunity to enhance its catalytic activity, which plays an important role in suppressing the "shuttle effect" of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) in LSBs. Here were present a Co9S8@MoS2 core-shell heterostructure anchored to a carbon nanofiber (Co9S8@MoS2/CNF), developed as an interlayer for suppressing the shuttle effect of LiPSs. The fabricated composite heterostructure is determined to be an effective alternative material that combines the synergistic relationship between chemisorption and electrochemical catalysis. We find that the band structure of the MoS2 shell can be effectively tuned by the Co9S8 core and that the Co9S8@MoS2/CNF can capture the LiPSs, providing excellent catalytic ability to convert LiPSs into Li2S2, with subsequent transformation from Li2S2 to Li2S. Importantly, high capacities of 1002 and 986 mAh g-1 can be retained after 50 cycles with high-sulfur loadings of 6 and 10 mg cm-2. Our results highlight the design of an atomic-scale heterostructure as a multifunctional interlayer providing a synergistic relationship between adsorption and catalysis. The net result is an effective retardation of the shuttling of LiPSs and an enhancement of the electrochemical redox reactions of LiPSs. This work shows great promise toward the development of practical applications of LSBs.

Ultra-reliable and Low-latency Communication (URLLC) has the potential to support data traffic transmission in factory automation, telesurgery, and automatic driving, where the differential quality of service (QoS) requirements in different types of traffic should be considered. In this letter, a differential QoS oriented URLLC policy is investigated for achieving high energy-efficiency under the given delay tolerance. To characterize the system state, a queueing model under First-In-First-Out (FIFO) service discipline is implemented. Based on this model, a cross-layer approach is developed to analyze the average transmission power and delay by formulating the system state into a Markov chain. For solving the problem more efficiently, the states of similar behavior in the Markov chain are aggregated, based on which the approximate solution can be obtained with low complexity. Numerical results verified the theoretical analysis and good performance of the proposed approach.
