Body image, the subjective view about one’s own body and how others perceive it, has been shown to have numerous impacts on women in multiple facets of their lives, including sexual experiences. This study seeks to examine the specific impact that body image has on women using sexual relationships for self-validation. Findings suggest that the more likely a woman is to perceive herself as overweight, the higher the chance that she seeks out sex in order to validate her feelings with regards to her body. Parental involvement and comments about the participant’s body were also shown with the woman seeking out sex for self-validation. Body image can have numerous impacts on the sexual health of women, as well as on their overall mental health and view of healthy relationships.

Das Thema der Karenzregelung hat nicht an Aktualität verloren, so wird nach wie vor über Än-derungen zur Herstellung von „Gleichstellung“ aller Menschen diskutiert. Die Karenz für Mütter gibt es in Österreich seit 1957. Grundsätzlich geht sie auf den Einsatz von Frauenbewegungen, welche sich bereits Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts für den Mutterschutz eingesetzt hatten, zurück. Das Vorrecht der Frauen auf Karenz wurde aufgrund dieser Vorgeschichte in der Diskussion um die geteilte Karenz ab den 70er Jahren noch lange verteidigt. Erst 1989 konnte ein Konsens zwischen den Großparteien ÖVP und SPÖ gefunden werden, um letztlich die Durchsetzung einer Karenz auch für Väter bewirken zu können. Bestimmend für das Inkrafttreten des Parentalurlaubs war das gesellschaftspolitische Argument, Frauen und Männer sowohl am Arbeitsmarkt als auch in der Erziehungsarbeit gleichstellen zu können. Die statistischen Daten zur Arbeitskrafterhebung 2014 haben allerdings gezeigt, dass das traditionelle Male-breadwinner Modell in österreichischen Familien – 24 Jahre nach dem Inkrafttreten der geteilten Karenz – nicht durch egalitäre Arrangements ersetzt werden konnte. Tatsache ist also, dass die gesellschaftspolitische Zielvorstellung, mit der traditionellen geschlechtsspezifischen Rollenverteilung im Zuge eines Parentalurlaubes brechen zu können, demnach nicht erreicht wurde., Parental leave has not lost its relevance on the political agenda. The continuing discussion is still about how to produce ‚equality‘ if you change parts of it. In Austria we have a maternity leave since 1957. The credit belongs to feminist movements for maternity protection at the end of the late 19th century. So first it was a woman’s prerogative. This prerogative on maternity leave was defended in the discussion of the shared parental leave in the 1970s for a long time. Only in 1989 a consensus among the major parties SPÖ and ÖVP was reached. The socio-political argument that women and men should have the same possibilities to join the labour market and to be envolved in the educational work was the decisive factor for the commencement of the shared parental leave. However, the statistical data on labor force survey in 2014 have shown that Austrian families prefered – 24 years after the commencement of the parental leave – the traditional male-breadwinner model instead of egalitarian arrangements. So fact is that the socio-political aim to break with traditional gender roles in the course of a shared parental leave was not achieved accordingly.
