Network graphs are common visualization charts. They often appear in the form of bitmaps in papers, web pages, magazine prints, and designer sketches. People often want to modify network graphs because of their poor design, but it is difficult to obtain their underlying data. In this paper, we present VividGraph, a pipeline for automatically extracting and redesigning network graphs from static images. We propose using convolutional neural networks to solve the problem of network graph data extraction. Our method is robust to hand-drawn graphs, blurred graph images, and large graph images. We also present a network graph classification module to make it effective for directed graphs. We propose two evaluation methods to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. It can be used to quickly transform designer sketches, extract underlying data from existing network graphs, and interactively redesign poorly designed network graphs.

Previously, it is difficult or even impossible to tackle some real integrals that may not be calculating by classic methods in calculus. However, this paper would summarize methods using the Residue theorem to calculate some types of these “impossible integrals”. However, before one calculates the integral using the residue theorem, one will introduce two important conclusions, one is about when the function decays faster than , which involve integral inequality and the method finding the upper bound. The second one would give reader a general conclusion of integration. At the same time, the readers have to understand the proof of the Cauchy’s Residue Theorem, and other theorems such as Cauchy’s theorem, Cauchy’s Integral formula. One should notice that the importance of branch cut and branch points, since the integrand one face could be multifunction, so one may try to turn them into single valued function. Also, the integral inequality plays a very important role in the first conclusion.

Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is widely used for the classification of materials and the quantification of their properties. Today, there is a high demand for extending the use of this technique to portable applications, and eventually, the integration with consumer appliances and smartphones. To reach this goal, the overall size of the NIR sensor, its production cost, robustness, and resistance to vibrations are of particular importance. This paper describes an approach to spectral sensing in the NIR (850–1700 nm) using a handheld sensor module based on a fully integrated multipixel detector array with a footprint of around 2×2 mm2. The capabilities of the spectral sensor module were recently evaluated in two application cases: Quantification of the fat percentage in raw milk and the classification of plastic types. Fat quantification was achieved with a root mean square error (RMSE) of prediction of 0.14% and classification of plastic types was achieved with a prediction accuracy on unknown samples of 100%. The results demonstrate the feasibility of the direct NIR sensing approach used by the integrated sensor, which has potential to be used in a variety of applications.

BackgroundVessels encapsulating tumor clusters (VETC) have been considered an important cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) metastasis.PurposeTo compare the potential of various diffusion parameters derived from the monoexponential model and four non-Gaussian models (DKI, SEM, FROC, and CTRW) in preoperatively predicting the VETC of HCC.Methods86 HCC patients (40 VETC-positive and 46 VETC-negative) were prospectively enrolled. Diffusion-weighted images were acquired using six b-values (range from 0 to 3000 s/mm2). Various diffusion parameters derived from diffusion kurtosis (DK), stretched-exponential (SE), fractional-order calculus (FROC), and continuous-time random walk (CTRW) models, together with the conventional apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) derived from the monoexponential model were calculated. All parameters were compared between VETC-positive and VETC-negative groups using an independent sample t-test or Mann-Whitney U test, and then the parameters with significant differences between the two groups were combined to establish a predictive model by binary logistic regression. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were used to assess diagnostic performance.ResultsAmong all studied diffusion parameters, only DKI_K and CTRW_α significantly differed between groups (P=0.002 and 0.004, respectively). For predicting the presence of VETC in HCC patients, the combination of DKI_K and CTRW_α had the larger area under the ROC curve (AUC) than the two parameters individually (AUC=0.747 vs. 0.678 and 0.672, respectively).ConclusionDKI_K and CTRW_α outperformed traditional ADC for predicting the VETC of HCC.

One main challenge of realizing high-energy-density lithium-sulfur batteries is low active materials utilization, excessive use of inert components, high electrolyte intake, and mechanical instability of high-mass-loading sulfur cathodes. Herein, chunky sulfur/graphene particle electrodes were designed, where active sulfur was confined in vertically aligned nanochannels (width ∼12 nm) of chunky graphene-based particles (∼70 μm) with N, O-containing groups. The short charge transport distance and low tortuosity enabled high utilization of active materials for high-mass-loading chunky sulfur/graphene particle electrodes. The intermediate polysulfide trapping effect by capillary effect and heteroatoms-containing groups, and a mechanically robust graphene framework, helped to realize stable electrode cycling. We propose and demonstrate a mode-division-multiplexed transmitter by employing a VCSEL-based 2-D matrix and a multi-plane light converter (MPLC). The triangular matrix light spots from VCSELs are designed with a 250-μ pitch in both x- and y- directions for scalable and low-loss mode multiplexing. The VCSELs are directly modulated by co-packaged BiCMOS drivers on a silicon interposer, fabricated on a wafer level. The MPLC is utilized to form seven phase masks to convert the individual Gaussian beams to multiplex Hermite-Gaussian modes, which can be coupled into a multi-mode fiber. In the demonstration, we packaged ten 10-G class VCSELs with the drivers, and the form factor of the co-packaged optics is 10-mm × 10-mm. With the fan-out evaluation board, the sub-module is characterized for short and long transmissions by multiplexing the ten directly modulated outputs from VCSELs. The testing results indicate 200-Gb/s capacity over 100-m MMF with direct detection and 28-km few-mode fiber with coherent detection.

We design an optical interface system for vertically coupling between Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers and 3-μm silicon waveguides. The system includes a photoresist lens and a total internal reflection mirror, which allows for passive alignment and flip-chip bonding of VCSELs. The simulated coupling loss is 0.7dB, in optimal conditions, which increases to 1 dB when 3-μm and 20-μm alignment tolerances are considered in lateral and longitudinal directions, respectively. The system is built by post-processing lens and metallic wiring on the backside of a 3-μm silicon photonic platform. After flip-chip bonding and embedding of the VCSELs, the system performance is characterized, and VCSEL-to-waveguide coupling efficiency of -7.5 dB is obtained.

Background: The regulation of target gene mRNA mediated by microRNA may play an important role in glucose metabolism in fish. Previous research findings of our research group revealed that Momordica charantia saponin (MS) administration in a high-starch diet could improve insulin resistance of common carp through renovating insulin signaling pathways, whose fundamental mechanisms have remained unknown by far. To reveal this potential mechanism, we aimed to investigate the difference in miRNA and mRNA expression profiles between common carp fed with high-starch diets containing MS (HS_MS1 and HS_MS2) and common carp fed with high-starch (HS) diets.Results: Through miRNA deep-sequencing, 10 significantly differentially expressed miRNAs in HC and HS_MS1, including one upregulated and nine downregulated miRNAs, were identified, whereas 10 significantly differentially expressed miRNAs in HC and HS_MS2, including four upregulated and six downregulated miRNAs, were identified. These miRNAs may not only be involved in the regulation of insulin signaling pathways and insulin resistance in common carp but also be the markers for liver insulin resistance in MS therapy for the remission of insulin resistance. This study identified 10 potential known miRNAs, namely, ccr-miR-10b, ccr-miR-122, ccr-miR-143, ccr-miR-146a, ccr-miR-155, ccr-miR-16c, ccr-miR-200a, ccr-miR-29a, ccr-miR-34, and ccr-miR-375, as candidates participating in modulating the liver insulin resistance. According to the biopathway enrichment analysis of the 252 target genes using the KEGG classical biopathway database, the relative expression levels of gsk3bb, pik3r1, and pik3r3b were analyzed using RNA-seq. Compared to the HC group, a significant decrease in the relative expression levels of pik3r1 and pik3r3b was observed in HS_MS1 and HS_MS2 groups (p < 0.05). This study raised a presumption of the presence of ccr-miR-29a targeting pik3r1 or ccr-miR-143 targeting pik3r3 playing likely roles in Momordica charantia saponins remitting the liver insulin resistance.Conclusion: The findings will further deepen the understanding of the carbohydrate metabolism of common carp and provide an important scientific basis for the application of Momordica saponins as functional nutrients to alleviate insulin resistance of fish in fish culture.

Existing wetting theories have difficulty accurately describing advancing/receding processes on micro-structured surfaces. A strategy is proposed to solve this problem by recognizing it as a liquid–vapor interface geometrical question. The wetting chip method is proposed to realize the microscopic observation of liquid–vapor interface variations. A wetting model based on the liquid–vapor interface shape (LVIS model) is established to describe the analytical relationships between the apparent contact angles, liquid–vapor interface radius, substrate geometry, and chemical nature of liquid. The LVIS model is divided into four typical time points and three transition stages, and its predictions agree with the experimental measurements. In contrast to traditional theories, the apparent contact angles in a quasi-equilibrium state should be separated into advancing and receding processes, and in this state, apparent contact angles vary with changes in the parameters of micro-pillar width and spacing. This strategy has the potential to accurately describe the wetting process on micro-structure surfaces.

Spectral sensing is an emerging field driven by the need for fast and non-invasive methods for the chemical analysis of materials in agri-food, healthcare, and industrial applications. We demonstrate a near-infrared spectral sensor, based on a scalable fabrication process and combining high responsivity, narrow linewidth, and low noise. The sensor consists of 16 resonant-cavity-enhanced photodetectors, each showing a unique spectral response consisting of narrow peaks. The spectral sensor thereby covers the wavelength range between 890 and 1650 nm, where organic materials show relevant spectral features from first and second overtones. For the fabrication of the detector arrays, we propose a simple and scalable fabrication approach that yields largely improved device characteristics with respect to the grey-scale electron-beam lithography process reported earlier. Through a series of five optical lithography steps, tuning layers of silicon nitride are deposited stepwise to obtain 16 different thicknesses and reduced surface roughness. With this novel fabrication approach, the obtained photodetectors achieve an average peak linewidth of 55 nm, a maximum peak responsivity of 0.3 A/W, and high suppression of the non-resonant background. We also demonstrate the impact of these improvements on the sensing performance for two relevant problems through an experiment and a set of simulations. With lateral dimensions of ∼1.4 × 1.4 mm2, the proposed photodetector array can be the key to robust, portable, and low-cost sensing instrumentation for on-site material analysis in various application fields.

Background: In clinical practice, Preoperative differentiation between hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is challenging but critical for treatment decisions. Objective: This study investigated the discriminatory power of the stretched-exponential model and fractional-order calculus model parameters for hepatocellular carcinoma versus intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma in orthotopic xenograft nude mice. Methods: Prototype orthotopic xenograft models of hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma were developed using 20 nude mice divided into two groups and separately transplanted with MHCC97H and HUCCT1 cells. Readout-segmented diffusion-weighted imaging with multiple b-values (0–2000 s/mm2) was obtained using a 3.0-T magnetic resonance imaging scanner. The apparent diffusion coefficient was calculated using the mono-exponential model. The distributed diffusion coefficient and intravoxel water molecular diffusion heterogeneity (α) were calculated using the stretched-exponential model. The diffusion coefficient (D), fractional-order derivative in space (β), and spatial parameter (μ) were calculated using the fractional-order calculus model. The liver and tumor specimens of nude mice were immunostained after euthanasia to clarify the liver cancer type. Differences in diffusion-related parameters between the groups were evaluated using Mann–Whitney U-test and univariate logistic analysis. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to assess the diagnostic efficacy of each parameter. P Results: α, D, and β were significant discriminators between the groups. The area under the curve for these three variables was 0.890, 0.830, and 0.870, respectively, with cutoff values of 0.491, 0.435, and 0.782, respectively. The Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings have recently experienced several catastrophic glacier-related disasters. It is of great scientific and practical significance to establish ground-based early warning systems (EWS) to understand the processes and mechanisms of glacial disasters and warn against potential threats to downstream settlements and infrastructure. However, there are few sophisticated EWSs on the Tibetan Plateau. With the support of the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research Program, an EWS was developed and implemented in the Sedongpu Valley, southeastern Tibetan Plateau, where repeated river blockages have occurred due to ice/rock collapse debris flow. The EWS collected datasets of optical/thermal videos/photos, geophone waveforms, water levels, and meteorological variables in this sparsely populated zone. It has successfully warned against three ice-rock collapse-debris flow - river blockage chain events and seven small-scale ice-rock collapse-debris flow events. Meanwhile, it was found that the low-cost geophone can effectively indicate the occurrence and magnitude of ice/rock collapses by local thresholds, and water level observation is an efficient way to warn of river blockages. Our observations showed that several factors, such as the volume and location of the collapses and the percentage of ice content involved, influence the velocities of debris flows and the magnitude of river blockages. There are still two possible glaciers in the study area that are at risk of ice collapse. It is worth monitoring their dynamic changes using high-resolution satellite data and the ground-based EWS to safeguard the surrounding hydrological projects and infrastructure in this transboundary region.

Scalar optical hopfions weaved by nested equiphase lines in the shape of a toroidal vortex are theoretically designed and experimentally demonstrated. This category of hopfions manifesting as a spatiotemporally structured pulse propagating in space-time may enable encoding and transferring optical topological information in an additional (temporal) dimension.

Function-behavior-structure (FBS) method models the functional structure and principle scheme in conceptual design by connecting three variables: product function, behavior, and structure. The traditional FBS method cannot deal effectively with the cooperation problem between man and machine in the function achievement process. This paper proposes an FBS-based interactive mechanical product design method by extending the behavior layer. First, define and transform operational behavior from the function to the behavior layer. Second, the genetic engineering method is used in expected operational behavior design. In this part, the operational behavior as genetic information is constructed to operational behavior genes model by Extenics theory. Based on a homology product sample library, screen the target gene through the GloVe model and similarity algorithm. The original operational behavior is then modified to an expected one by Extenics transformation. Finally, the product structure is obtained through an analogy transformation process. This way, the operational behavior problem in the interactive mechanical product can be solved by this FBS design process. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed process are verified in the development of an apple picking device.

Multiple freeze-thaw cycles due to temperature fluctuations irreversibly damage the muscle tissue of fish, thereby reducing their edibility. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the number of freeze-thaw (F–T) cycles on protein and lipid oxidation, microstructure, physical index, and nutritional quality of rainbow trout muscle. The results showed that F–T cycles accelerated protein carbonyl formation and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) generation (p < 0.05), as well as increased the loss of total sulfhydryl (SH) groups (p < 0.05). Moreover, transmission electron microscope (TEM) images illustrated that the microstructure of muscle fibers was loosed and disintegrated after the third F–T cycle, causing a reduction in water holding capacity (WHC). In addition, muscles lost the intrinsic color of fresh meat after the fifth cycle, with lightness L* and yellowness b* increasing, while redness a* declined (p < 0.05). The hardness, springiness, and chewiness of muscles decreased, and the shear force first increased and then decreased after the third cycle. Furthermore, the proximate components, essential amino acids (EAAs), and total amino acids (TAAs), decreased significantly after the third cycle (p < 0.05) due to the decrease of WHC as well as protein and lipid oxidation. The results indicated that the quality of rainbow trout muscle changed after the third cycle, deteriorated seriously after the fifth cycle, and was unacceptable after the seventh cycle. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the temperature fluctuation to less than three times during freezing. The results provided a reference for the identification and classification of frozen aquatic products.

In this study, we developed a new method combining thin-layer ultrasonic extraction, efficient SPE purification, ultra-performance liquid chromatography separation, and high-resolution mass spectrometry characterization for seven amide herbicides in fishery products. In sample preparation, to rapidly increase the contact area between the fish meat and the extractant, the fish meat was smeared on a glass slide. This process resulted in quickly reaching the extraction equilibrium and relatively high extraction efficiency. In data analysis, a strategy for characterization and qualitative analysis was constructed by analyzing the fragmentation of amide herbicides using product ion scans. Isomeric pretilachlor and butachlor were separated chromatographically, while the coeluting isomers, alachlor and acetochlor, could be separated by differences in the fragmentation of their selected precursor ions. This method overcame the challenge of poor dispersion in the extractant caused by the high viscosity of fish meat, and the challenge of separation and characterization for isomers. Compared with other methods, the extraction efficiency was improved and the amide herbicides in aquatic products was characterized and quantified rapidly and accurately. Moreover, the qualitative information was much greater and provided an additional strategy for analytes identification. This rapid and accurate method will benefit workers involved in monitoring fishery.

The digitization of smart catheters will dramatically increase the demand for reliable and high data transmission in the distal tips. Optical fiber is a good candidate to provide high-speed data transmission. However, the extremely small scale of the smart catheter tip, with less than a few millimeters in diameter, hampers the integration of optical fiber connections in the catheter tip. Our work presents a stand-alone optical data link module (ODLM) with a dimension of 240 m 280 m 420 m for use in a 1 mm diameter intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) smart catheter. The fabrication of the ODLM is based on the Flex-to-Rigid (F2R) integration technology. In the ODLM, the flexible interconnects reroute the electrical contacts of the flip-chipped vertical-cavity sur-face-emitting laser (VCSEL) to the side of the device. This design enables the ODLM to be mounted on a flex-PCB and fit into a 200-300 m gap in the IVUS catheter tip. An optical fiber that runs parallel to the catheter shaft is self-aligned to a commercially available VCSEL by inserting it into the through-silicon hole (TSH) of the ODLM. Clear eye diagrams prove the stand-alone ODLM can transmit 25.8 Gb/s, 231-1 Pseudo-Random Binary Sequence (PRBS) when driven through a high-speed bias-tee. The BER test indicates that error-free operation can be achieved at an optical output of around -4 dBm.

The propagation of flight delays is challenging to analyze because delay events depend on multiple variables. This phenomenon has become even worse with the increasing number of aircraft in China, and research into delay propagation has shown limited progress. In this paper, we design a visual analysis system for flight delay propagation. Unlike conventional flight delay research, this work focuses on the flight delay propagation trends in one region and representing the relationship of delays occurring in multiple airports. First, we construct a Bayesian network to analyze the delay parameters and select delay factors for visualization. Second, the system employs a series of visualization methods to present the propagation of flight delays, including density and flow visualizations. Third, the system combines multiple available visual representations for analyzing flight delays from different aspects. We demonstrate our methods with real data in multiple types of cases, and we evaluate our visual design through user studies. The results help identify several benefits of our system and confirm its usefulness for delay propagation analysis.

In this study, a total of 135 Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) samples were collected from four major crab-producing provinces (Jiangsu, Hubei, Anhui, and Liaoning) in China. The content of 24 trace elements in the edible parts of mitten crabs was determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). In addition, the content of trace elements in crab samples collected from different provinces was compared, and the heavy metal levels exceeding the standard were evaluated. Twenty four trace metallic elements were determined in Chinese mitten crab samples. The single factor pollution index (Pi), percentage of provisionally tolerable weekly intake (PTWI), and target hazard quotients (THQ) were used to evaluate the pollution level and food safety of Chinese mitten crabs. The final assessment results of dietary risks led to the health risk assessment accompanying food safety recommendations on Chinese mitten crabs. The overall finding of this study established that Chinese mitten crab aquatic products can be eaten for nutrition; however, attention should be paid on the potential food safety risks of some heavy metals. Moreover, efforts on developing the industrial economy by the local government and peoples’ safety from food risks may also increase the awareness of environmental protection.

The purpose of this research is to find a traffic light timing optimization scheme. During the research, an intersection between Xi’an Mingguang road and the Fourth FengCheng road was chosen to analyze the crossing time distribution of pedestrians who were separated from west-to-the-right-turn vehicles during which the method of breaking off both ends of pedestrian green light signals was used. The VISSIM software was used for traffic simulation, aimed at improving traffic volume and right-turning vehicle average speed for less vehicle queuing delays, less human-vehicle conflicts, and better security for pedestrians without excessive interruption on their street crossing efficiency. The optimal scheme is obtained and the result shows that (1) the number of passing vehicles remains unchanged, with the queuing delay reduced by 5.78% and crosswalk passing speed increased by 19.01% compared with the original one. (2) As the scheme effect is positively correlated with the increase of right turn vehicle numbers, the scheme could be adopted for urban traffic management based on the local situation, which is not only in peak traffic hours but also in the flat peak time to ensure vehicle efficiency and pedestrian safety in the light of “vehicle yielding to pedestrians” regulation. (3) The scheme could also be adopted in cities with no “vehicle yielding to pedestrians” policy for both people-vehicle separation and pedestrian safety when crossing streets.

Automatic typography is important because it helps designers avoid highly repetitive tasks and amateur users achieve high-quality textual layout designs. However, there are often many parameters and complicated aesthetic rules that need to be adjusted in automatic typography work. In this paper, we propose an efficient deep aesthetics learning approach to generate harmonious textual layout over natural images, which can be decomposed into two stages, saliency-aware text region proposal and aesthetics-based textual layout selection. Our method incorporates both semantic features and visual perception principles. First, we propose a semantic visual saliency detection network combined with a text region proposal algorithm to generate candidate text anchors with various positions and sizes. Second, a discriminative deep aesthetics scoring model is developed to assess the aesthetic quality of the candidate textual layouts. We build a new Textual Layout Aesthetics dataset with dense annotations of each image and design a reasonable evaluation metric to compare our method with richer baselines. The results demonstrate that our method can generate harmonious textual layouts in various actual scenarios with better performance.

Visual query of spatiotemporal data is becoming an increasingly important function in visual analytics applications. Various works have been presented for querying large spatiotemporal data in real time. However, the real-time query of spatiotemporal data distribution is still an open challenge. As spatiotemporal data become larger, methods of aggregation, storage and querying become critical. We propose a new visual query system that creates a low-memory storage component and provides real-time visual interactions of spatiotemporal data. We first present a peak-based kernel density estimation method to produce the data distribution for the spatiotemporal data. Then a novel density dictionary learning approach is proposed to compress temporal density maps and accelerate the query calculation. Moreover, various intuitive query interactions are presented to interactively gain patterns. The experimental results obtained on three datasets demonstrate that the presented system offers an effective query for visual analytics of spatiotemporal data.

Correlation between mechanical properties and texture characteristics was investigated in a hot-rolled Ti-7333 alloy. After rolling deformation, two strong fiber-textures with 〈100〉 parallel to rolling direction (RD) and 〈110〉 parallel to RD were determined. The mechanism of stress-induced boundary migration mainly controls the nucleation of recrystallized grains holding the similar orientation with the adjacent deformed grains on the bulged grain boundaries. It was revealed that the 〈110〉 fiber-texture with higher Schmid factor (SF) possesses the high deformation ability along RD.

Erosive rainfall results in the loss of both soil and nutrients, which indirectly triggers soil deterioration and a reduction in land productivity. However, how rainfall affects runoff, soil erosion, and nutrient loss under different crop rotation patterns and topographic factors remains unclear. This experiment observed nine runoff-erosion plots on the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) from 2019 to 2020 to determine the effects of crop type, rotation pattern, and slope gradient and length on runoff, soil erosion, and nutrient loss. Runoff, soil erosion, and nutrient loss were highest for the fallow plots; values for these variables for spring corn and winter wheat plots were not significantly different. Crop rotation generated greater runoff, soil erosion, and nutrient loss compared to non-rotation. Soil erosion and associated nutrient loss increased, but not significantly, with slope for gradients of 0.5°, 1°, and 3°, while runoff and associated nutrient loss did not increase. In addition, soil erosion and associated nutrient loss were significantly greater for slope lengths of 20 m vs. 50 m. A structural equation model showed rainfall characteristics significantly impacted runoff and soil erosion and subsequently affected nutrient loss. This study increases the understanding of runoff, soil erosion, and nutrient loss from cropland with gentle slopes on the CLP.

Ultrathin metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) nanosheets have been considered as one of promising electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction due to their unique structures. However, the preparation process is subject to the low-yield exfoliation and time-consuming synthetic methods. And it still requires to be explored to develop an efficient strategy for regulation of surface electronic states of MOFs to enhance their electrocatalytic activities. Herein, we report a facile microwave-assisted synthesis of NiCoFe-based trimetallic metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets, which can achieve simultaneously rapid synthesis and activation of MOF for OER. The as-prepared Ni4Co4Fe2-MOF nanosheets exhibit excellent OER activity and electrochemical stability, which can deliver a current density of 10 mA cm−2 at a low overpotential of 243 mV with a small Tafel slope of 48.1 mV dec-1. This work provides a facile method for the rapid synthesis of MOF nanosheets and also demonstrates an effective approach for regulating the electronic structure of MOFs for electrocatalysis.

Tin (Sn) metal foil is a promising anode for next-generation high-energy–density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high capacity and easy processibility. However, the pristine Sn foil anode suffers nonuniform alloying/dealloying reaction with lithium (Li) and huge volume variation, leading to electrode pulverization and inferior electrochemical performance. Herein, we proposed that reduced grain size and elaborate porosity design of Sn foil can circumvent the nonuniform alloy reaction and buffer the volume change during the lithiation/delithiation cycling. Experimentally, we designed a three-dimensional interconnected porous Sn (3DIP-Sn) foil by a facile chemical alloying/dealloying approach, which showed improved electrochemical performance. The enhanced structure stability of the as-fabricated 3DIP-Sn foil was verified by chemo-mechanical simulations and experimental investigation. As expected, the 3DIP-Sn foil anode revealed a long cycle lifespan of 4400 h at 0.5 mA cm−2 and 1 mAh cm−2 in Sn||Li half cells. A 3DIP-Sn||LiFePO4 full cell with LiFePO4 loading of 7.1 mg cm−2 exhibited stable cycling for 500 cycles with 80% capacity retention at 70 mA g−1. Pairing with high-loading commercial LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 (NCM622, 18.4 mg cm−2) cathode, a 3DIP-Sn||NCM622 full cell delivered a high reversible capacity of 3.2 mAh cm−2. These results demonstrated the important role of regulating the uniform alloying/dealloying reaction and circumventing the localized strain/stress in improving the electrochemical performance of Sn foil anodes for advanced LIBs.

The pressure of climate change and carbon emission reduction has promoted the rapid development of distributed renewable energy. One of the problems is how to connect to the distribution grid economically, efficiently and safely and to achieve the consumption of renewable energy. Meanwhile, the demand response of customers is also an important resource that can be regulated by the distribution grid. Based on this, a bi-level cooperative robust planning model for distributed renewable energy in the distribution grid considering demand response is constructed. In the first layer plan, the position and capacity of distributed renewable energy access is used as decision variables, and the minimum operation cost of the distribution network is minimized. In the second layer plan, the uncertainty of the output of renewable energy is further considered. Aiming at the optimal operating cost of the system and combining with relevant constraints, the lower-level robust optimization model is established by introducing robust optimization, and the optimization iteration is carried out by using SSA algorithm. Finally, the model and the method are verified by an example simulation, and the influence of demand response on the planning results is analyzed. The results show that considering the demand response in the distribution network planning is beneficial to delay the investment cost, enhance the power users’ load flexibility, and effectively avoid load cutting and other problems. The introduction of robust optimized two-level collaborative planning model can effectively promote the consumption of renewable energy and promote the participation of demand response resources in planning.

We present a compact optical wireless receiver based on micro-lens and photodiodes array flip-chipped on a glass interposer. The performance of the receiver is verified with a simulation model and with an optical wireless link experimentally, which concludes that co-integration of micro-lens on the PD array can enhance by 3.5 dB the light collection efficiency of the photodiode array while keeping a field of view of 18 degrees (half angle). And 5.5 Gbps maximum throughput is verified with this receiver, using the discrete multitone transmission.

Color has been widely used to encode data in all types of visualizations. Effective color palettes contain discriminable and harmonious colors, which allow information from visualizations to be accurately and aesthetically conveyed. However, predefined color palettes not only lack the flexibility of custom color palette generation but also ignore the context in which the visualizations are used. Designing an effective color palette is a time-consuming and challenging process for users, even experts. In this work, we propose the generation of an image-based visualization color palette to exploit the human perception of visually appealing images while considering visualization cognition. By analyzing color palette constraints, including harmony, discrimination, and context, we propose an image-driven color generation method. We design a color clustering method in the saliency-hue plane based on visual importance detection and then select the palette based on the visualization color constraints. In addition, we design two color optimization and assignment strategies for visualizations of different data types. Evaluations through numeric indicators and user experiments demonstrate that the palettes predicted by our method are visually related to the original images and are aesthetically pleasing, supporting diverse visualization contexts and data types in practical applications.

DNGs are diverse network graphs with texts and different styles of nodes and edges, including mind maps, modeling graphs, and flowcharts. They are high-level visualizations that are easy for humans to understand but difficult for machines. Inspired by the process of human perception of graphs, we propose a method called GraphDecoder to extract data from raster images. Given a raster image, we extract the content based on a neural network. We built a semantic segmentation network based on U-Net. We increase the attention mechanism module, simplify the network model, and design a specific loss function to improve the model's ability to extract graph data. After this semantic segmentation network, we can extract the data of all nodes and edges. We then combine these data to obtain the topological relationship of the entire DNG. We also provide an interactive interface for users to redesign the DNGs. We verify the effectiveness of our method by evaluations and user studies on datasets collected on the Internet and generated datasets.
