The therapeutic mechanism of RA in hyperuricemic mice was studied by 16S rRNA, metagenomic sequencing and metabolomics.Results: Our research showed that RA has therapeutic effect in hyperuricemia mice, such as slow the weight loss, repair kidney damage, and downregulate serum UA, XOD, CRE, ALT/AST, BUN, and liver XOD levels. RA restored the disturbance structure of the microbiota in hyperuricemia mice by increasing the relative abundances of beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillaceae and Lactobacillus murine) but decreasing the relative abundances of pathogenic bacteria (Prevotellaceae, Rikenellaceae and Bacteroidaceae). Meanwhile, we found that RA directly regulated the metabolic pathway (such as linoleic acid metabolism and glycerophospholipid metabolism) and indirectly regulated bile acid metabolism by mediating microbiota to ameliorate metabolic disorders. Subsequently, there was a robust correlation between specific microbiota, metabolites and the disease index.Conclusion: The ability of RA to protect mice against hyperuricemia is strongly linked to the microbiome-metabolite axis, which would provide evidence for RA as a medicine to prevent or treat hyperuricemia.Graphical Abstract: Keywords: Radix Astragali, hyperuricemia, microbiota, metabolism, bile acid

The paper documents a conodont fauna from Lower Triassic deposits of Paleotethys-issued North Dobrogea Orogen. The studied strata exposed in the Tulcea Veche Quarry are characterized by the presence of diversified molluscs, including the ammonoid Tirolites cassianus (Quenstedt) and the bivalve Crittendenia decidens (Bittner). The site also represents the type locality of the coelacanth fish Dobrogeria aegyssensis Cavin & Grădinaru. The recovered conodont fauna is marked by Icriospathodus crassatus (Orchard), Neospathodus robustispinus Zhao & Orchard, Novispathodus abruptus (Orchard), Nv. brochus (Orchard), Nv. aff. brochus (Orchard), Tr. ex gr. homeri (Bender), Tr. hungaricus (Kozur & Mostler), Tr. ex gr. hungaricus (Kozur & Mostler), Tr. symmetricus (Orchard), Tr. aff. symmetricus (Orchard), and Triassospathodus sp. that is correlated with the Tr. symmetricus Zone.

Reductive soil disinfestation (RSD) is an emerging technique that ameliorates soil degradation, but its effects against antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) were unclear. Here, we examined soil properties, ARG types and numbers, and ARG profiles, and bacterial community compositions following 4 soil treatments: control; straw addition (SA); water flooding (WF); and RSD, both straw addition and water flooding. The results showed that the numbers of ARG types and subtypes decreased by 10.8% and 21.1%, respectively, after RSD, and the numbers of ARGs decreased by 18.6%. The attenuated multidrug, beta-lactam, macrolide, and phenicol resistance genes in the RSD soil corresponded to a decreased relative abundance of ARG subtypes (i.e., adeF, mdtM, TypeB_NfxB, mecA, nalC, OXA-60, and cmlA4). Taxa in phyla Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Deinococcus-Thermus were the main hosts for dominant ARG subtypes and were inhibited by RSD. The selected bacterial genera and soil properties explained 83.4% of the variance in ARG composition, suggesting that the improved soil properties and the reduced potential ARG hosts produced by the interactions of straw addition and water flooding are likely responsible for ARG attenuation by RSD. Therefore, RSD has the potential to mitigate ARG pollution in soils.

Traffic near-crash events serve as critical data sources for various smart transportation applications, such as being surrogate safety measures for traffic safety research and corner case data for automated vehicle testing. However, there are several key challenges for near-crash detection. First, extracting near-crashes from original data sources requires significant computing, communication, and storage resources. Also, existing methods lack efficiency and transferability, which bottlenecks prospective large-scale applications. To this end, this paper leverages the power of edge computing to address these challenges by processing the video streams from existing dashcams onboard in a real-time manner. We design a multi-thread system architecture that operates on edge devices and model the bounding boxes generated by object detection and tracking in linear complexity. The method is insensitive to camera parameters and backward compatible with different vehicles. The edge computing system has been evaluated with recorded videos and real-world tests on two cars and four buses for over ten thousand hours. It filters out irrelevant videos in real-time thereby saving labor cost, processing time, network bandwidth, and data storage. It collects not only event videos but also other valuable data such as road user type, event location, time to collision, vehicle trajectory, vehicle speed, brake switch, and throttle. The experiments demonstrate the promising performance of the system regarding efficiency, accuracy, reliability, and transferability. It is among the first efforts in applying edge computing for real-time traffic video analytics and is expected to benefit multiple sub-fields in smart transportation research and applications.

Foliar zinc (ZnSO4) application is an effective agronomic tool for Zn biofortification of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and hence for overcoming human Zn deficiency. It is unclear how the methods used to apply phosphorus (P) fertilisers affect the uptake and availability of Zn in wheat plants. Here, a solution-culture experiment and a 2-year field experiment were conducted to determine the influence of P applied to leaves or roots on total, soluble and insoluble Zn in winter wheat plants (cv. Xiaoyan-22) also receiving foliar Zn. Foliar Zn application, regardless of P application, significantly improved grain total Zn (primarily water-soluble) by 79.4% under both growth conditions, and reduced grain phytic acid:Zn (PA:Zn) molar ratio by 54.4% in the field. In solution culture, root-applied P did not affect plant uptake of foliar-applied Zn; however, foliar application of Zn plus P reduced the soluble fraction of Zn in wheat tissues, and thus decreased grain Zn concentration by 13.2% compared with Zn-only foliar application. Similarly, in the field, foliar-applied Zn plus P resulted in lower grain total and soluble Zn concentration and higher grain PA and PA:Zn molar ratio than foliar Zn alone. Overall, foliar Zn application is efficient in increasing grain Zn concentration and bioavailability under varied methods of P application. Although foliar-applied P slightly reduces the ability of plants to use foliar-applied Zn to increase grain Zn, foliar Zn combined with commonly applied foliar P application represents an easily adoptable practice for farmers that will help to alleviate Zn deficiency in human populations.

The first recovery of the conodont H. parvus from Slovenia a few years ago highlights Slovenian for the Early Triassic conodont biostratigraphic study. Systematic sampling of the Mokrice section and five sections in the Idrija–Žiri area has resulted in the discovery of new species: Platyvillosus corniger sp. nov. and Neospathodus planus sp. nov. Based on these new species and other conodont elements obtained from these sections, a unique conodont sequence is proposed for the Slovenian Early Triassic. It composes of ten conodont zones that span from the Uppermost Dienerian (Upper Induan) to the Lower Spathian (Lower Olenekian). In ascending order, they are: Eurygnathodus costatus Zone, Neospathodus planus Zone, Neospathodus robustus Zone, Foliella gardenae-Pachycladina obliqua Zone, Hadrodontina aequabilis Zone Platyvillosus corniger Zone, Platyvillosus regularis Zone, Triassospathodus hungaricus Zone, Triassospathodus symmetricus Zone, Neospathodus robustispinus Zone. This conodont sequence is valuable for stratigraphic correlation within Central and South Europe, and it also promotes a better correlation between western and middle-eastern Tethys. A global comparison with conodonts indicates that the unique conodont sequence in Slovenia seems to have been more controlled by the ecological parameters of the epeiric ramp than by potential migration barriers. Multielement conodont apparatuses of Triassospathodus hungaricus and Platyvillosus regularis have been constructed based on conodont elements which are obtained from the Mokrice and Žiri-sortirnica 28 sections. Though S2 element was not found, the apparatus indicates “Spathognathodus” hungaricus should be assigned to the genus Triassospathodus.

Foliar zinc (Zn) fertilization is an important approach for overcoming crop Zn deficiency, yet little is known regarding the subsequent translocation of this foliar-applied Zn. Using synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence microscopy (XFM) and transcriptome analysis, the present study examined the translocation of foliar absorbed Zn in sunflower (Helianthus annuus) leaves. Although bulk analyses showed that there had been minimal translocation of the absorbed Zn out of the leaf within 7 days, in situ analyses showed that the distribution of Zn in the leaf had changed with time. Specifically, when Zn was applied to the leaf for 0.5 h and then removed, Zn primarily accumulated within the upper and lower epidermal layers (when examined after 3 h), but when examined after 24 h, the Zn had moved to the vascular tissues. Transcriptome analyses identified a range of genes involved in stress response, cell wall reinforcement, and binding that were initially upregulated following foliar Zn application, whereas they were downregulated after 24 h. These observations suggest that foliar Zn application caused rapid stress to the leaf, with the initial Zn accumulation in the epidermis as a detoxification strategy, but once this stress decreased, Zn was then moved to the vascular tissues. Overall, this study has shown that despite foliar Zn application causing rapid stress to the leaf and that most of the Zn stayed within the leaf over 7 days, the distribution of Zn in the leaf had changed, with Zn mostly located in the vascular tissues 24 h after the Zn had been applied. Not only do the data presented herein provide new insight for improving the efficiency of foliar Zn fertilizers, but our approach of combining XFM with a transcriptome methodological system provides a novel approach for the study of element translocation in plants.
