This paper investigates physical layer security (PLS) in wireless interference networks. Specifically, we consider confidential transmission from a legitimate transmitter (Alice) to a legitimate receiver (Bob), in the presence of non-colluding passive eavesdroppers (Eves), as well as multiple legitimate transceivers. To mitigate interference at legitimate receivers and enhance PLS, artificial noise (AN) aided interference alignment (IA) is explored. However, the conventional leakage minimization (LM) based IA may exhibit confidential signal cancellation phenomenon. We theoretically analyze the cause and then establish a condition under which this phenomenon will occur almost surely. Moreover, we propose a means of avoiding this phenomenon by integrating the max-eigenmode beamforming (MEB) into the traditional LM based IA. By assuming that only statistical channel state informations (CSIs) of Eves and local CSIs of legitimate users are available, we derive a closed form expression for the secrecy outage probability (SOP), and establish a condition under which positive secrecy rate is achievable. To enhance security performance, an SOP constrained secrecy rate maximization (SRM) problem is formulated and an efficient numerical method is developed for the optimal solution. Numerical results confirm the effectiveness and the usefulness of the proposed approach.

Anomaly detection for the Internet of Things (IoT) is a major intelligent service required by many fields, including intrusion detection, device-activity analysis, and security supervision. However, the heterogeneous distribution of data and resource-constrained end nodes present challenges for existing anomaly detection models. Due to the advantages of flexible deployment and multi-dimensional resources, high altitude platform stations (HAPSs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which are important components of vertical heterogeneous networks (VHetNets), have significant potential for sensing, computing, storage, and communication applications in ubiquitous IoT systems. In this paper, we propose a novel VHetNet-enabled asynchronous federated learning (AFL) framework to enable decentralized UAVs to collaboratively train a global anomaly detection model. In the VHetNet-enabled AFL framework, a HAPS operates as a central aerial server, and the local models trained in UAVs are uploaded to the HAPS for global aggregation due to its wide coverage and strong storage and computation capabilities. We introduce a UAV selection strategy into the AFL framework to prevent UAVs with low local model quality and large energy consumption from affecting the learning efficiency and detection accuracy of the global model. To ensure the security of transmissions between UAVs and the HAPS, we add designed noise to local model parameters in UAVs to achieve differential privacy. Moreover, we propose a compound-action actor-critic (CA2C)-based joint device association, UAV selection, and UAV trajectory planning algorithm to further enhance the overall federated execution efficiency and detection model accuracy. Extensive experimental evaluation on a real-world dataset demonstrates that the proposed algorithm can achieve high detection accuracy with short federated execution time and low energy consumption.

Vertical heterogenous networks (VHetNets) and artificial intelligence (AI) play critical roles in 6G and beyond networks. This article presents an AI-native VHetNets architecture to enable the synergy of VHetNets and AI, thereby supporting varieties of AI services while facilitating automatic and intelligent network management. Anomaly detection in Internet of Things (IoT) is a major AI service required by many fields, including intrusion detection, state monitoring, device-activity analysis, security supervision and so on. Conventional anomaly detection technologies mainly consider the anomaly detection as a standalone service that is independent of any other network management functionalities, which cannot be used directly in ubiquitous IoT due to the resource constrained end nodes and decentralized data distribution. In this article, we develop an AI-native VHetNets-enabled framework to provide the anomaly detection service for ubiquitous IoT, whose implementation is assisted by intelligent network management functionalities. We first discuss the possibilities of VHetNets used for distributed AI model training to provide anomaly detection service for ubiquitous IoT, i.e., VHetNets for AI. After that, we study the application of AI approaches in helping provide automatic and intelligent network management functionalities for VHetNets, i.e., AI for VHetNets, whose aim is to facilitate the efficient implementation of anomaly detection service. Finally, a case study is presented to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed AI-native VHetNets-enabled anomaly detection framework.

The fog-radio-access-network (F-RAN) has been proposed to address the strict latency requirements, which offloads computation tasks generated in user equipments (UEs) to the edge to reduce the processing latency. However, it incorporates the task transmission latency, which may become the bottleneck of latency requirements. Data compression (DC) has been considered as one of the promising techniques to reduce the transmission latency. By compressing the computation tasks before transmitting, the transmission delay is reduced due to the shrink transmitted data size, and the original computing task can be retrieved by employing data decompressing (DD) at the edge nodes or the centre cloud. Nevertheless, the DC and DD incorporate extra processing latency, and the latency performance has not been investigated in the large-scale DC-enabled F-RAN. Therefore, in this work, the successful data compression probability (SDCP) is defined to analyse the latency performance of the F-RAN. Moreover, to analyse the effect of compression offloading ratio (COR), a novel hybrid compression mode is proposed based on the queueing theory. Based on this, the closed-form result of SDCP in the large-scale DC-enabled F-RAN is derived by combining the Matern cluster process and M/G/1 queueing model, and validated by Monte Carlo simulations. Based on the derived SDCP results, the effects of COR on the SDCP is analysed numerically. The results show that the SDCP with the optimal COR can be enhanced with a maximum value of 0.3 and 0.55 as compared with the cases of compressing all computing tasks at the edge and at the UE, respectively. Moreover, for the system requiring the minimal latency, the proposed hybrid compression mode can alleviate the requirement on the backhaul capacity., Comment: 30 pages, 9 figures. As the network slicing is one of the critical enablers in communication networks, one anomalous physical node (PN) or physical link (PL) in substrate networks that carries multiple virtual network elements can cause significant performance degradation of multiple network slices. To recover the substrate networks from anomaly within a short time, rapid and accurate identification of whether or not the anomaly exists in PNs and PLs is vital. Online anomaly detection methods that can analyze system data in real-time are preferred. Besides, as virtual nodes and links mapped to PNs and PLs are scattered in multiple slices, the distributed detection modes are required to adapt to the virtualized environment. According to those requirements, in this paper, we first propose a distributed online PN anomaly detection algorithm based on a decentralized one-class support vector machine (OCSVM), which is realized through analyzing real-time measurements of virtual nodes mapped to PNs in a distributed manner. Specifically, to decouple the OCSVM objective function, we transform the original problem to a group of decentralized quadratic programming problems by introducing the consensus constraints. The alternating direction method of multipliers is adopted to achieve the solution for the distributed online PN anomaly detection. Next, by utilizing the correlation of measurements between neighbor virtual nodes, another distributed online PL anomaly detection algorithm based on the canonical correlation analysis is proposed. The network only needs to store covariance matrices and mean vectors of current data to calculate the canonical correlation vectors for real-time PL anomaly analysis. The simulation results on both synthetic and real-world network datasets show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed distributed online anomaly detection algorithms.

To achieve the dynamic allocation of multiple resources and improve the resource utilization with ensuring the queue stability, the paper proposes a joint resource optimization algorithm based on queue stability in wireless virtualized networks. Considering the cache resource constraints and different pricing mechanisms for each virtual operator, the algorithm allocates multiple virtual resources as a joint optimization problem, and establishes a utility function aiming at maximizing the profit of virtual operators. Secondly, based on the data volume, a distributed scheduling algorithm is designed to balance the optimality of the virtual network revenue and the stability of the system queue through Lyapunov stochastic optimization. Finally, the Lagrange duality theory is used to solve the model. The simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the total average revenue of virtual network while guaranteeing the queue stability.

Dense heterogeneous network enhances spatial multiplexing by encrypting a small base station, for users in the small base station between the frequent switching problems. In this paper, a local clustering network architecture and handoff management mechanism based on local mobility is proposed. The 5G New Radio technology user connected-inactive state is introduced, and the discrete-time Markov transfer model is constructed. The cost of the handoff function evaluates the performance of the proposed mechanism. The simulation results show that the proposed handoff mechanism reduces the handoff consumption compared with the current handoff scheme, and effectively reduces the handoff delay.

With the rapid development of mobile communication and the sharp increase of smart mobile devices, wireless data traffic has experienced explosive growth in recent years, thus injecting tremendous traffic into the network. Fog Radio Access Network (F-RAN) is a promising wireless network architecture to accommodate the fast growing data traffic and improve the performance of network service. By deploying content caching in F-RAN, fast and repeatable data access can be achieved, which reduces network traffic and transmission latency. Due to the capacity limit of caches, it is essential to predict the popularity of the content and pre-cache them in edge nodes. In general, the classic prediction approaches require the gathering of users&rsquo, personal information at a central unit, giving rise to users&rsquo, privacy issues. In this paper, we propose an intelligent F-RANs framework based on federated learning (FL), which does not require gathering user data centrally on the server for training, so it can effectively ensure the privacy of users. In the work, federated learning is applied to user demand prediction, which can accurately predict the content popularity distribution in the network. In addition, to minimize the total traffic cost of the network in consideration of user content requests, we address the allocation of storage resources and content placement in the network as an integrated model and formulate it as an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) problem. Due to the high computational complexity of the ILP problem, two heuristic algorithms are designed to solve it. Simulation results show that the performance of our proposed algorithm is close to the optimal solution.

In this paper, the performance of quadratic residue (QR) codes of lengths within 100 is given and analyzed when the hard decoding, soft decoding, and linear programming decoding algorithms are utilized. We develop a simple method to estimate the soft decoding performance, which avoids extensive simulations. Also, a simulation-based algorithm is proposed to obtain the maximum likelihood decoding performance of QR codes of lengths within 100. Moreover, four important theorems are proposed to predict the performance of the hard decoding and the maximum-likelihood decoding in which they can explore some internal properties of QR codes. It is shown that such four theorems can be applied to the QR codes with lengths less than 100 for predicting the decoding performance. In contrast, they can be straightforwardly generalized to longer QR codes. The result is never seen in the literature, to our knowledge. Simulation results show that the estimated hard decoding performance is very accurate in the whole signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regimes, whereas the derived upper bounds of the maximum likelihood decoding are only tight for moderate to high SNR regions. For each of the considered QR codes, the soft decoding is approximately 1.5 dB better than the hard decoding. By using powerful redundant parity-check cuts, the linear programming-based decoding algorithm, i.e., the ACG-ALP decoding algorithm performs very well for any QR code. Sometimes, it is even superior to the Chase-based soft decoding algorithm significantly, and hence is only a few tenths of dB away from the maximum likelihood decoding., submitted to IEEE Transactions on Information Theory

In mobile ad hoc networks, the nodes are battery-operated, so it is easy to lead to network partition since some node’s energy is exhausted. And the mobility of nodes may cause route failure that leads to route rediscovery, which can degrade the performance of networks. To solve this issue, a new routing protocol EMRP by combining the prediction of the node mobility and residual energy state is presented. The simulation results show that EMRP can increase the packet delivery ratio and increase evidently the lifetime of the network.

Multi-path routing technology is important for wireless ad hoc networks because it can increase the throughput of flows. In this paper we discuss the throughput in wireless ad networks with multi-path routing, and draw a conclusion: when the distance from the source to the destination is not so much, then the throughput of flow through multi-path is not more than that with shortest single-path in wireless ad hoc networks. And when the distance from the source to the destination is long enough, the throughput of flow through multi-path is more than that with shortest single-path. And simulation shows the same result.

In this paper, we explore how to make RWBO+BEB support service differentiation. An analytical model is proposed to analyze how to choose the minimum contention windows according to the bandwidth ratios of stations. Based on the analysis, a novel service differentiated backoff algorithm for IEEE 802.11 DCF, named DS-RWBO, is proposed. The simulation results indicate that DS-RWBO can allocate the wireless bandwidth according to the bandwidth ratio of each station.
