A high yielding white seeded sesame culture VS 07 023 was developed at Regional Research Station, Vridhachalam and released as VRI 3 during 2017. It is a cross derivative of SVPR 1 and TKG 87. The culture was evaluated for rabi and the summer seasons. The culture VS 07 023 registered overall grain yield of 995 kg/ha which is 22.74 per cent and 17.33 per cent yield increase over the check SVPR 1 (811kg/ha) and TMV (SV) 7 (848 kg/ha), respectively over 95 locations during rabi season. Similarly, the culture VS 07 023 registered remarkably a higher mean seed yield of 1055 kg/ha against the check SVPR 1 (862 kg/ha) and TMV (SV) 7 (928kg/ha). The per cent increase in the mean seed yield over the check was 22.49 (SVPR 1) and 13.77 per cent (TMV (SV) 7). The culture is moderately resistant to Macrophomina root rot disease. The culture VS 07 023 is white seeded containing 50 per cent oil content and exhibited a profuse branching suitable for rabi and the summer irrigated conditions. In view of stable performance of sesame culture VS 07 023, it was released as a new sesame variety VRI 3 during 2017 by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore for cultivation in major sesame growing districts of Tamil Nadu during rabi and the summer irrigated conditions. The building blocks of life, amino acids and nucleobases, are believed to have been synthesized in the extreme conditions that prevail in space starting from simple molecules containing hydrogen, carbon, oxygen and nitrogen. However, the fate and role of amino acids and nucleobases when they are subjected to similar processes largely remains unexplored. Here we report, for the first time, that shock processed amino acids and nucleobases tend to form complex macroscale structures. Such structures are formed on timescales of about 2 ms. This discovery suggests that the building blocks of life could have polymerized not just on Earth but on other planetary bodies. Our study also provides further experimental evidence for the 'threads' observed in meteorites being due to assemblages of (bio)molecules arising from impact induced shocks., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures, 1 table, 3 supplementary figures

The aim of this paper is to analyze the queuing model entitled to cost optimization in bulk arrival and a batch service retrial queuing system with threshold, server failure, non-disruptive service, and multiple vacations. When bulk arrival of customers find the server is busy, then all customers will join in the orbit. On the other hand, if the server is free, then batch service will be provided according to the general bulk service rule. Batch size varies from a minimum of one and a maximum of ‘b’ number of customers. Customers in the orbit seek service one by one through constant retrial policy whenever the server is in idle state. The server may encounter failure during service. If the server fails, then ‘renewal of service station’ will be considered with probability . If there is no server failure with probability in the service completion or after the renewal process and if the orbit is empty, the server then leaves for multiple vacations. The server stays on vacation until the orbit size reaches the value N. For this proposed queuing model, a probability generating function of the orbit size will be obtained by using the supplementary variable technique and various performance measures will be presented with suitable numerical illustrations. A real time application is also discussed for this system. Additionally, a cost effective model is developed for this queuing model.

Isomerization and carbon chemistry in the gas phase are key processes in many scientific studies. The neutral products formed upon photoexcitation were measured as a function of time after the laser pulse. It was found using a statistical model that, although the system is excited above its isomerization barrier energy, the actual isomerization from linear to monocyclic conformation takes place on a very long time scale of up to hundreds of microseconds. This finding may indicate a general phenomenon that can affect the interstellar medium chemistry of large molecule formation as well as other gas phase processes., Isomerization is a basic process in nature, with implications for chemical reactivity including in space. Here, the authors observe ultraslow isomerization in an isolated gas-phase carbon chain to its cyclic isomer lasting up to hundreds of microseconds, which may impact the creation of larger carbons in the interstellar medium.

35th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 617-620, This paper will examine the evolution of contact formation with temperature of a silver paste on a crystalline silicon solar cell. Detailed evaluation of the damage due to the front side grid metallization and its relation to contact formation and temperature will be carried out. Generally, a multi component silver paste is screen printed on a solar cell, then fired at high temperatures (750-800°C) to form an electrical contact to the base silicon material. The inorganic component, apart from silver (usually glass and/or crystalline additives), of the paste is responsible for reactions with the silicon nitride anti-reflective coating (ARC), silicon and silver that may lead to a low contact resistance between the metallization and bulk silicon. Knowledge of the detailed chemistry that controls the thermodynamic and kinetic temperature dependence of these reactions is generally vague and constantly changing. Both the formation and nature of silver crystallites, colloids, and precipitates formed at the silicon emitter region and in the glass layer will be investigated in detail over a wide range of temperatures. This will shed light on the evolution of contact formation with time and temperature for different metallization pastes.

35th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 434-438, In this work, a new technology for the finger metallization on the solar cells, called Pattern Transfer Printing (PTP), is introduced and compared with the screen printing (SP) technology as reference. PTP is a contactless printing technology, which is based on laser induced deposition from a polymer substrate (called tape). Using trench width of 20 μm in the tape, the PTP technology is able to produce ultra-fine-line fingers (< 20 μm) with high aspect ratio (> 0.5). Therefore, the Jsc is increased significantly due to less shadowing and a cell efficiency of 21.8% for a finger cross section of 200 μm². This is a gain of +0.15%abs compared to the SP reference with 35 μm finger opening and simultaneously the silver paste consumption is reduced by 40 mg (-57%). As second reference group double printing with 20 μm finger opening screen is used to achieve a comparable aspect ratio. This results in a similar cell efficiency as for the single print with 35 μm finger opening but with higher paste consumption. The results show, that today the PTP technology is an attractive technology to replace SP for the finger metallization and enable to achieve ultra-fine-line finger printing below 20 μm.

This paper deals with analyze of a single server queueing system with immediate feedbacks and working vacation. Upon arrival if the customer sees the server to be busy then it joins the tail end of queue. Otherwise if server is idle, the customer gets into service. After completion of service, the customer is allowed to make an immediate feedback in finite number. Busy server may fail for a short interval of time. Using supplementary variable technique the steady state results are deduced. Some system performance measures are discussed

This study aims to find the influence that Facebook plays as a social networking medium on engineering students at an undergraduate level in VIT, Vellore. Facebook, a prominent online social media and networking site was founded and launched in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook has been under the scanner to study the influence it has on human emotional health, social life and mental health. Facebook has grown to become one of the most prevalent Social Networking Sites (SNS) in this era. A lot of previous studies have tried to study the role Facebook has played not only on students or adolescents but also on adults and all. During this study, we have tried to see the role that Facebook plays in an engineering undergraduate student’s life especially the extent to which it affects the students’ academic performance. Various studies have shown that Facebook plays a major role in influencing emotions, moods and attitudes of students. We aim to understand the role that Facebook plays buy administering a survey amongst students in the University and analyse the extent to which students are affected by using it. The survey constituted of 16 questions and was administered to about 250 respondents belonging to the undergraduate engineering student pool. The method of sampling done was simple random sampling and data analysis was done using SPSS.

In this paper, we define the Total graph and the complemented graph of a rough semiring (T, ∆, ∇). We prove that the existence theorem of the total graph and the complemented graph on (T, ∆, ∇) for X ⊆ U where U is the finite universal set on the set of all rough sets for the given information system I = (U, A) together with the operations praba ∆ and praba ∇. We illustrate these concepts through examples.

Background : Ambulatory chemotherapy is very effective in the treatment of spinal tuberculosis, involving vertebral bodies, without paraplegia. However, some patients with thoracic disease could develop worsening of kyphosis. It would be helpful to predict which patients were unlikely to develop severe kyphosis. Methods : Step-wise discriminant analysis on the 10-year data of 79 patients treated with ambulatory chemotherapy showed that the angle of kyphosis on admission and the site of the lesion were associated with an angle of 50 0 or less at 10 years. An equation based on these factors was evolved to give a discriminant function (D) value. Results : Of 51 patients with an angle of 50˚ or less at 10 years, 47 had a D value of 0.499 or less, giving a predictive accuracy of 92%. Of 28 patients who had an angle of more than 50˚ at 10 years, 5 had a D value of 0.499 or less (false-negativity of 18%). Considering the initial angle, which was much more important (p< 0.0001) than the site of the lesion (P< 0.03), 46 of the patients with an angle of 50˚ or less at 10 years had an initial angle of 30˚ or less (predictive accuracy of 90%); 3 of the patients who had an angle of more than 500 at 10 years had an initial angle of 30˚ or less (false-negativity of 11%). Conclusion : If the angle of kyphosis on admission is 300 or less, ambulatory chemotherapy could be confidently prescribed. The method is reliable and simple.

Background Adolescent girls often lack knowledge regarding reproductive health including menstruation hygiene which can be due to socio-cultural barriers in which they grow up. Objectives: To explore the knowledge, practices and sources of information regarding menstruation and hygiene among adolescent girls in Udupi taluk, India. Methods: An epidemiologic study was undertaken using cross-sectional study method among 550 school-going adolescent girls aged13-16 years. A total of 270 were from urban and 280 from the rural area. Stratified cluster sampling was adopted to select the schools and simple random sampling technique to select the participants. Data was collected using a pre-tested questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 15.Results Around 34% participants were aware about menstruation prior to menarche, and mothers were the main source of information among both groups. Overall, 70.4% of adolescent girls were using sanitary napkins as menstrual absorbent, while 25.6% were using both cloth and sanitary napkins. Almost half of the rural participants dried the absorbent inside their homes. Conclusions: There is a need to equip the adolescent girls with knowledge regarding safe, hygienic practices to enable them to lead a healthy reproductive life.

26th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 831-834, Ion implantation is an enabling technology for high-efficiency c-Si solar cells that requires expertise and process control to exploit its full potential. Suniva is the first to adopt implantation into commercial Si cell manufacturing for the production of ARTisun Select cells that have efficiencies approaching 19%. In the Select process, implantation is followed by an oxidation step to anneal implant damage, create the desired profile, and grow a passivating thermal oxide without compromising the bulk minority carrier lifetime. The path to commercialization has included process development in an on-site Development Lab, a pilot demonstration to verify production readiness, technology transfer from the lab to the manufacturing line, and ramp-up of the line to 24x7 cell production. With the installation of the first high-throughput ion implanter for PV, optimized unit processes were transferred from the lab to the production floor which was retrofit for implanters and the Select process. After overcoming challenges to cell performance, yield, and throughput, all of Suniva’s manufacturing lines are producing ARTisun Select cells with initial average cell efficiency >18.6%.

Microstructure and magnetocaloric effect were investigated in Gd1-x(Si0.5Ge0.5)(x) alloys with x = 0.38, 0.41, 0.45, 0.47 and 0.50. The phase identification and compositional analysis were carried out by a combination of x-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis. The Gd-5(Si,Ge)(4) phase was found to have an orthorhombic Gd5Si4-type structure when the coexisting phase was Gd-rich (Gd5Si3-type) and a monoclinic Gd5Si2Ge2-type structure when the coexisting phase was Gd-depleted (Gd5Ge5-type). The magnetocaloric effect was found to depend on the volume fraction and the Si/Ge ratio of the ferromagnetic 5 : 4 phase in the above series of alloys. A maximum magnetocaloric effect ( Delta S) M of 14.3 J kg(-1) K-1 for a magnetic field change from 0 to 5 T was obtained for the x = 0.45 alloy.

The rhesus monkey intrinsic immunity factor TRIM5αrh recognizes incoming capsids from a variety of retroviruses, including human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV), and inhibits the accumulation of viral reverse transcripts. However, direct interactions between restricting TRIM5α proteins and retroviral capsids have not previously been demonstrated using pure recombinant proteins. To facilitate structural and mechanistic studies of retroviral restriction, we have developed methods for expressing and purifying an active chimeric TRIM5αrh protein containing the RING domain from the related human TRIM21 protein. This recombinant TRIM5-21R protein was expressed in SF-21 insect cells and purified through three chromatographic steps. Two distinct TRIM5-21R species were purified and shown to correspond to monomers and dimers, as analyzed by analytical ultracentrifugation. Chemically cross-linked recombinant TRIM5-21R dimers and mammalian-expressed TRIM5-21R and TRIM5α proteins exhibited similar sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis mobilities, indicating that mammalian TRIM5α proteins are predominantly dimeric. Purified TRIM5-21R had ubiquitin ligase activity and could autoubquitylate with different E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzymes in vitro. TRIM5-21R bound directly to synthetic capsids composed of recombinant HIV-1 CA-NC proteins and to authentic EIAV core particles. HIV-1 CA-NC assemblies bound dimeric TRIM5-21R better than either monomeric TRIM5-21R or TRIM5-21R constructs that lacked the SPRY domain or its V1 loop. Thus, our studies indicate that TRIM5α proteins are dimeric ubiquitin E3 ligases that recognize retroviral capsids through direct interactions mediated by the SPRY domain and demonstrate that these activities can be recapitulated in vitro using pure recombinant proteins.

Sintered samples of (Nd14.9 Dy1.9) (Fe65 Co8 Cu1.0 Ga1.0 Nb0.7)B7.5 were prepared and subjected to stepwise annealing in the temperature range 875 K-675 K. The XRD and metallographic (optical and electron microscopy) studies reveal a multi-phase microstructure with each phase showing different solubility of the alloying additions. This alloy has Tc of 705 K with an intrinsic coercivity of 1000 kA/m and energy product of ?250 kJ/m3 at RT. Solubility of Co into the matrix phase and that of Ga and Cu into the Nd-rich grain boundary phase are considered to be the main contributing factors for the significant enhancement in Tc and Hci respectively of the multi-component alloy when compared to those of ternary NdFeB, wherein Hci = 720 kA/m and Tc = 585 K. ? 2001 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
