This study aimed to determine the effects of modified pilates exercises (MPE) and neurodevelopmental therapy (NDT) on trunk, postural control, gait, and balance in children with cerebral palsy (CP).18 children with CP between gross motor function classification system (GMFCS) I and III were randomized into two groups as study (Group A, MPE) and control (Group B, NDT). Physiotherapy (PT) took place 2 days a week for 8 weeks. Trunk control measurement scale (TCMS), seated postural control measurement (SPCM), pediatric reach test (PRT), pediatric berg balance measurement (PBBM), 6 minute walking test (6MWT), observational gait scale (OGS), core stability performance measurements, and muscle strength tests were performed.Mean age of group A (n = 9) was 9 ± 1.58 years, and group B (n = 9) was 10 ± 2.73 years. Significant differences were found in the SPCM posture (p = 0.000), TCMS (p = 0.004), OGS right (p = 0.019) and left (p = 0.001) scores, abdominal fatigue test (AFT) (p = 0.014), modified side bridge (MSBT) test (right p = 0.04, left p = 0.031), pressure biofeedback unit test (PBU) (p = 0.024), and sit-ups test (SUT) (p = 0.011) in favor of group A. According to the initial measurements of the percentage changes of the tests, significantly difference was found in PBBMR (p = 0.001), PBBML (p = 0.000), SPCM posture (0.001), TCMS (0.000), MBSTET (0.000), MSBT left (p = 0.034), AFT (p = 0.002), PBU (p = 0.015), SUT (p = 0.000), MPUT (p = 0.018), and OGS right (p = 0.029) in favor of group A.The results revealed that MPEs in children with CP positively affects trunk, postural control, gait, and balance compared to NDT. It is concluded that MPE can be used as an alternative treatment approach in children with CP. Newborns show a series of behavioral and physiological reactions to painful stimuli.The current study aimed to determine the effect of different procedures on the pain levels of newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).One hundred ninety-six newborns with gestational age (GA) of 23-40 weeks, birth weight (BW) between 2235 ± 911 g were included. Painful procedure (PP) (vascular access (VA), heel prick (HP), umbilical catheter (UC), orogastric catheter (OC), and intubation (I)) were recorded. Pain during the PP was evaluated with Neonatal Infant Pain Scale (NIPS). Pulse and ONIPS total scores were found to be significantly higher with term infants (p 0.05). When NIPS total scores were compared according to the type of PP, significant difference was observed between groups (p = 0.000). Positive correlation was found between birth week (p = 0.000, r = 0.364), BW of infants and NIPS total score (p = 0.000, r = 0.371), pulse values of DP and NIPS total score (p = 0.000, r = 0.386). Negative correlation was found between OIt is concluded that as GA and BW increase, so do the pain responses of the infant, which showed that the pain thresholds of term-preterm infants are different, and decrease as GA and BW increase.

Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) is associated with excessive joint range of motion and the presence of musculoskeletal symptoms. The objective of this study was to examine body awareness, physical fitness parameters, fatigue levels, and musculoskeletal disorders in young adults with HSD and compare them with those without HSD.Young individuals in the age range of 18-24 years were included in the study. Joint hypermobility of individuals was determined by the Beighton Score. Evaluations were made using the Body Awareness Questionnaire, the Fatigue Severity Scale, the Eurofit Physical Fitness Test Battery, and the Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire.A total of 94 healthy individuals (74 females, 20 males, mean age 21.44 years, SD ± 1.19 years), 47 with HSD and 47 without HSD, were included in the study. It was concluded that body awareness and fatigue levels were similar in two groups (p 0.05). When physical fitness parameters were examined, there was a significant difference between the two groups in Sit and Reach test and the dominant side grip strength (p 0.05). There was a significant difference between the two groups in the neck, back, dominant wrist, and total musculoskeletal problems (p 0.05).It was concluded that young individuals with HSD had more flexibility, lower grip strength, more pain especially in the neck and back region, and more musculoskeletal disorders in general. Joint hypermobility is a factor to be considered in evaluating functional performance in these individuals.

Dysphagia is the most troublesome symptom of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). This study aimed to investigate oropharyngeal dysphagia in children with EoE and possible related factors. Children with a definite diagnosis of EoE were included in the study. Medical and feeding histories were recorded. A disease control level was determined for each child. An oral structure examination, the Turkish version of the Mastication and Observation Evaluation (T-MOE), the Pediatric version of the Eating Assessment Tool-10 (PEDI-EAT-10) and the 3-oz water swallow test were applied in screening for oropharyngeal dysphagia. Fifty-two children participated in the study. Oropharyngeal dysphagia took the form of abnormal swallowing (PEDI-EAT-10 score ≥ 4) and increased aspiration risk (PEDI- EAT-10 score ≥ 13) in 51.9% and 25.0% of the children, respectively. Seven children failed the 3-oz water swallow test. Abnormal swallowing and aspiration risk were significantly higher in children with prolonged mealtimes, impaired chewing function, and uncontrolled disease (p 0.05). Purpose: This study was planned to investigate depression, anxiety and quality of life (QoL) and psychosocial support needs of mothers have a child with disabilities.Methods: Forty mothers who have a child with 10 amputees, 10 cerebral palsy (CP), 10 mental retardation (MR), and 10 healthy children between 4-9 years of age participated in the study. Demographic information of children and mothers, time spend for caring and income level were determined. Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the relation between the functional independence and health related quality of life (HRQoL) in children with chronically disabled. Material and Methods: 78 children and their mothers were included in the study. After taking sociodemographic in formation, the Child Health Questionnaire Parent Form (CHQ-PF50) was used to assess (HRQoL) and functional independence measuring (WeeFIM), was used to evaluate functional independence levels. Results: The age average of children was found to be 7.60 ± 3.43 years. 46 of the children (59%) were diagnosed as cerebral palsy, 6 had (7.7%) muscle disease, and 26 (33.3%) had mental motor retardation. Lowest values in quality of life and level of independence were obtained in children with muscle disease and in children with cerebral palsy, respectively. There were positive correlations between WeeFIM and total CHQ and between WeeFIM and subsections of CHQ except physical function, pain and discomfort and mental health (p< 0.05). There were no differences between CHQ and WeeFIM when the groups were compared (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed a clear relation between functional status and health related quality of life. In addition, although no significant correlation can be showed children with muscle disease had the lowest quality of life. Also, familial compliance parameter was found to be most effected from quality of life.
