Aim: An experiment was conducted in the farmers’ field of various locations representing four agro climatic zones of Assam to assess the performance of Turmeric variety Megha Turmeric-1. Place and Duration of the Study: The study was conducted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Karbi Anglong, Udalguri, Barpeta, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar and Sonitpur under Assam Agricultural University. Results: The study revealed that the plant was 175.24 cm tall with 10 numbers of leaves on main shoot. Additionally, the leaf lamina length and width were found to be 54.08 cm and 15.18 cm respectively from the study. The leaf disposition was erect with distant venation and wavy leaf margin. Moreover, the rhizomes were found to have distant inter nodal pattern along with tertiary rhizomes. The crop recorded higher yield 249.63 quintal per hectare against the local varieties in all the locations. Conclusion: From the study, it can be inferred that the farmers may adoptMegha Turmeric-1 over their local varieties for better yield and returns.

Greengram is one of the most important pulse crop grown by the farmers of Udalguri district of Assam in rice fallows as well as in upland areas. However, most of the land remains unutilized as fallow after harvest of Kharif rice. So, greengram was demonstrated by KVK Udalguri, Lalpool using scientific cultivation practices. Fertilizer was applied as NPK@ 10-35-15 kg/ha; Compost @ 1 t/ha. Seed was treated with rhizobium culture @50 g/kg seed. The result revealed that the demonstration resulted in higher production of greengram with a grain yield of 7.8 q/ha with net income of Rs 15,400.00/ha as compared to production of grain yield of 6.0 q/ha with a net income of Rs 7,900.00/ha in farmers practice (control). The increase in yield was 30% over the farmers practice. The B:C ratio was also high in demonstration (1.65) over farmers practice (1.36).

BACKGROUND Meningitis often presents as a medical emergency which requires rapid and prompt diagnosis with aggressive management to select appropriate therapy to prevent mortality and long-term morbidity. Sometimes clinical signs and symptoms, results of routine CSF analysis and radiological findings are inadequate in making a definitive diagnosis of meningitis. On the other hand, tests like ELISA, Gram’s and AFB stain of CSF are although rapid techniques for detection of organism, have disadvantages of cost, availability and sensitivity respectively. With GeneXpert, diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and RIF resistance is now available in less than 2 hours but again has disadvantage of cost and availability. In such circumstances, the determination of CSF CRP appears to provide a new dimension to the additional supportive diagnosis of the type of meningitis. METHODS The study was carried out on 90 patients admitted in the Department of Medicine, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati, Assam. The final diagnosis of the type of meningitis was based on the clinical criteria, biochemical, cytological & bacteriological examination of CSF. RESULTS In our study, the mean CRP in CSF of patients with bacterial meningitis, tubercular meningitis and viral meningitis were 24.00±11.17 mg/dl, 5.27±3.15 mg/dl and 2.57±3.11 respectively.
