This research aims to determine the sex of non-adult skeletal remains from two archaeological sites dating to the RomanImperial and Medieval periods by using morphological, morphometrics and molecular approaches. The determination of sex from non-adult remains is a debated issue in the literature even though it has important implications in the palaeodemographic reconstruction of past populations. Concordance between the different approaches was obtained in the 63% of cases (N=19). Testing undeniably plays a central role in the daily practice of software engineering, and this explains why better and more efficient libraries and services are continuously made available to developers and designers. Could the MAS developers community similarly benefit from utilizing state-of-the-art testing approaches? The paper investigates the possibility of bringing modern software testing tools as those used in mainstream software engineering into multi-agent systems engineering. Our contribution explores and illustrates, by means of a concrete example, the possible interactions between the agent-based programming framework ASC2 (AgentScript Cross-Compiler) and various testing approaches (unit/agent testing, integration/system testing, continuous integration) and elaborate on how the design choices of ASC2 enable these interactions.

Summary Background Older age and comorbidities are the main risk factors for adverse COVID‐19 outcomes in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The impact of IBD medications is still under investigation. Aims To assess risk factors for adverse outcomes of COVID‐19 in IBD patients and use the identified risk factors to build risk indices. Methods Observational cohort study. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression was used to identify risk factors associated with pneumonia, hospitalisation, need for ventilatory support, and death. Results Of the 937 patients (446 with ulcerative colitis [UC]) evaluated, 128 (13.7%) had asymptomatic SARS‐CoV‐2 infection, 664 (70.8%) had a favourable course, and 135 (15.5%) had moderate or severe COVID‐19. In UC patients, obesity, active disease and comorbidities were significantly associated with adverse outcomes. In patients with Crohn's disease (CD), age, obesity, comorbidities and an additional immune‐mediated inflammatory disease were identified as risk factors. These risk factors were incorporated into two indices to identify patients with UC or CD with a higher risk of adverse COVID‐19 outcomes. In multivariable analyses, no single IBD medication was associated with poor COVID‐19 outcomes, but anti‐TNF agents were associated with a lower risk of pneumonia in UC, and lower risks of hospitalisation and severe COVID‐19 in CD. Conclusion The course of COVID‐19 in patients with IBD is similar to that in the general population. IBD patients with active disease and comorbidities are at greater risk of adverse COVID‐19 outcomes. IBD medications do not pose additional risks. The risk indices may help to identify patients who should be prioritised for COVID‐19 re‐vaccination or for therapies for SARS‐CoV‐2 infection., The course of COVID‐19 in patients with IBD patients is similar to that in the general population. Control of bleeding after oral surgery, is mandatory in patients taking anticoagulants. There are different haemostatic measure to prevent post-surgical bleeding. The aim of our study is to use a homeostatic agent, Calcium sulphate (P30, Ghimas, Bologna, Italy) for controlling post-surgical bleeding in a group of patients treated with warfarin therapy for thromboembolic states. Twenty teeth (12 mandibular molars, 8 maxillary molars) in 20 patients (14 men and 6 woman) with a mean age of 54.3 years (± 10.3 years) were included in the study. The patients were divided in 2 group; in 10 patients of the study group was used Calcium sulphate (P30, Ghimas, Bologna, Italy) in layers to fill the socket after extraction, while in control group was recommended to put a gauze with tranexamic acid in the extraction site immediately after extraction, and half an hour after extraction. The outcome was bleeding in subsequent days. Bleeding at post operative day 1 was significant in 5 patients of control group, otherwise in study group treated with calcium sulfate there was no bleeding in any patient (p. value 0.0055). CaS demonstrated to be a good hemostatic agent for controlling bleeding after oral surgery in patients taking anticoagulants.

The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of supportive periodontal therapy (i.e. scaling and root planning, SRP) alone, versus a chemical device silica dioxide (SiO2) colloidal solutions (SDCS) used in association with SRP in the treatment of chronic periodontitis in adult patients.A total of 20 patients with a diagnosis of chronic periodontitis (40 localized chronic periodontitis sites) in the age group of 35 to 55 were selected. None of these patients have previously received any surgical or non-surgical periodontal therapy and demonstrated radiographic evidence of moderate bone loss. Two non-adjacent sites in separate quadrants were selected in each patient to monitor treatment efficacy (split mouth design). Clinical pocket depth (PD) and microbial analysis (MA) were analyzed at baseline day 15. SPSS program and paired simple statistic T-test were used to detect significant differences.Total bacteria loading, Tannerella forsitia and Treponema denticola loading were statistically reduced when SiO2 is locally delivered. SDCS gel is an adjuvant therapy which should be added to SRP in the management of moderate to severe chronic periodontitis.

The popularity of one-piece implants has increased considerably between patients and dentists. The advantages of one-piece immediate loading for rehabilitation of edentulous mandibles are to reduce the number of interventions and timing of prosthetic. These parameters can be better controlled with a one-piece implant. Twenty-one patients with one-piece implants inserted in totally edentulous mandibles were considered for this retrospective study. Inclusion criteria were: Good oral hygiene, absence of lesions of the oral mucosa, no smoking or smoking less than 20 cigarettes a day, drinking less than 2 glasses of wine a day, good general health no pregnancy. Twenty-one (12 female 9 males) patients were enrolled in this retrospective study. The mean follow-up was 1 year. A total 84 one-piece implants (Biohorizon, Italy) were inserted in edentulous mandible. Implants diameter was 3,0 mm in all fixtures. Implant's length was equal and longer than 12 mm in 44 and 40 fixtures respectively. 48 were inserted in females 36 in males (range 33-67; mean age 58,3). One-piece immediate loading implants has non-difference in survival rate respect to two-piece implant and delayed loading for rehabilitation of totally edentulous mandibles. In conclusion one-piece immediate loading implant is a reliable device for mandible rehabilitation

Prosthetic rehabilitation of atrophic maxillary implants often requires grafting owing to vertical and transversal bone deficiency. The use of this procedure in order to insert implants was introduced by Tatum and published as a clinical study by Boyne and James. It can be performed via a lateral or crestal approach. This surgery is now widespread, with good results in terms of bone augmentation and implant osseointegration. Nevertheless, there is a small proportion of patients who have infectious complications with an incidence ranging from 3.5% to 10.5%. We observe that maxillary sinus augmentation is a successful preprosthetic technique for augmentation of the edentulous posterior maxilla. Preoperative assessment of the anatomy of the sinus reduces the rate of complications considerably. International audience; We place ourselves in a decision making setting where a set of agents needs to collectively decide upon a set of alternatives characterised by their features. We introduce the notion of unshared features and show that if such features do not exist then we can reach a Condorcet consensus. We provide a deliberation protocol that ensures that, after its completion, the number of unshared features of the decision problem can only be reduced.

Gingival augmentation techniques proposed in the international literature do not exclude a surgical component, which determines consequent post-surgical discomfort and results are not always predictable. In recent years, the introduction of laser biostimulation has led to a less invasive approach, particularly in the treatment of periodontally compromised patients, limiting the surgical phase to seriously compromised cases, with regeneration techniques for the restoration of a correct periodontal tissue anatomy. The aim of this in vitro study is to establish the validity of laser biostimulation in order to develop the epithelial keratinized layer of the tissue by stimulating fibroblasts-keratinocytes organotypic cultures and fibroblasts and keratinocytes mono-cultures. We created two groups (test and control), each one composed of 3 fibroblast cultures, 3 keratinocyte cultures and 3 organotypic cultures. We performed laser irradiation of test group with Wiser Doctor Smile Lambda, Flat Top Handpiece, at 50 J/cm2 of fluency with one application every 40 h for a total of 5 applications. Forty-eight h after the last laser application, we investigated the presence and amount of keratins 5 and 8 with citofluorymetric and western blotting analyses. Analyses showed an increase in keratin synthesis in test group cultures, showing a remarkable increase in production of keratin 8 in co-cultures test. Laser biostimulation can considerably enhance keratin synthesis when applied with high energy doses and repeated applications to keratinocytes-fibroblasts co-cultures.

In the last years,investigators have been seeking to comprehend the effectiveness of laser application in periodontal therapy,since it seems to have a high clinical predicability and it is welcome for the patients. The aim of the work is to evaluate the clinical efficiency of Nd:Yag laser by using PCR real time methodologies. The results suggest that laser applications in Periodontology are interesting in order to obtain sterilization of periodontal pockets and improvement of periodontal records With this work it is possible to evaluate the efficiency of Nd:Yag laser with and without antiseptic substances in not surgical periodontal therapy by using PCR real time methodologies. To verify the bactericidal ability of Nd:Yag laser therapy, the total bacterial amount and the presence of some important microbiota involved in periodontal disease (Porphyromonas gingivalis,Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans,Prevotella intermedia)are analyzed by molecular method (PCR Real Time)

The design of cognitive agents involves a knowledge representation (KR) to formally represent and manipulate information relevant for that agent. In practice, agent programming frameworks are dedicated to a specific KR, limiting the use of other possible ones. In this paper we address the issue of creating a flexible choice for agent programmers regarding the technology they want to use. We propose a generic interface, that provides an easy choice of KR for cognitive agents. Our proposal is governed by a number of design principles, an analysis of functional requirements that cognitive agents pose towards a KR, and the identification of various features provided by KR technologies that the interface should capture. We provide two use-cases of the interface by describing its implementation for Prolog and OWL with rules.

More and more frequently, planning complex treatments, dentists include orthodontic steps associated with implant insertion: multiple are possible correlations between orthodontics and implantology. In literature it's possible to find our treatments with make use of orthodontics to facilitate implant insertion ("pre-implantology orthodontics", but more recently implants can used as stable anchorage to obtain specific orthodontic movements. Results of this association are really successful, both on a functional point of view, either on aesthetic one; the only orthodontic applies used are NiTi in order to develop light and controlled forces. In such a way and being very careful to periodontal respect, implant management and final clinical results can be optimised.

Objectives. This study evaluates the rehabilitation of a sample of 32 patients with severe atrophy of upper jaw (V Class according to Cawood and Howell) treated by a two-step sinus lift and autologous bone graft. A total of 138 implants were positioned. In this sample transversal width of bone crests was lower than 4 mm while bone height was lower than 6 mm. In no case a traditional implant-supported rehabilitation was possible. Materials and methods. This is a longitudinal study based on a sample of 32 totally or partially edentulous patients with severe maxillary atrophy. A mono- or a bi-cortical bone onlay was positioned in all patients undergoing sinus surgery. Maxillary sinus lift was always performed by a piezosurgical device. In mono and bilateral sinus lift a graft from iliac crest was inserted. Results. After a two years follow-up, 94.05% all implants positioned after sinus lift showed good osteointegration and efficient prosthetic loading. Anterior iliac crest demonstrated to be a suitable donor site of medullary bone for maxillary sinus lift. Conclusions. Predictability of implant survival is definitely high if healing time and graft maturation time are strictly respected. Good results of sinus lift in all cases are also due to the use of piezosurgery, which allows to open the sinus and to elevate soft tissues with a very low trauma for Schneider's membrane. As this membrane remained intact and autologous bone-chips were used, positioning of resorbable membrane was unnecessary, thus making surgery easier. Anterior iliac crest, as a donor site, offers a large amount of cortical and medullary bone, necessary for onlay positioning and bone defects reconstruction. This kind of procedure, with all its intrinsic complications, is a valid method in the rehabilitation of severely atrophic maxilla. For clinical success patient selection and treatment steps are extremely important.
