Introduction: For persons with hemophilia, optimization of joint outcomes is an important unmet need. The aim of this initiative was to determine use of ultrasound in evaluating arthropathy in persons with hemophilia, and to move toward consensus among hemophilia care providers regarding the preferred ultrasound protocols for global adaptation. Methods: A global survey of hemophilia treatment centers was conducted that focused on understanding how and why ultrasound was being used and endeavored to move toward consensus definitions of both point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound (POC-MSKUS) and full diagnostic ultrasound, terminology to describe structures being assessed by ultrasound, and how these assessments should be interpreted. Next, an in-person meeting of an international group of hemophilia health care professionals and patient representatives was held, with the objective of achieving consensus regarding the acquisition and interpretation of POC-MSKUS and full diagnostic ultrasound for use in the assessment of musculoskeletal (MSK) pathologies in persons with hemophilia. Results: The recommendations were that clear definitions of the types of ultrasound examinations should be adopted and that a standardized ultrasound scoring/measurement system should be developed, tested, and implemented. The scoring/measurement system should be tiered to allow for a range of complexity yet maintain the ability for comparison across levels. Conclusion: Ultrasound is an evolving technology increasingly used for the assessment of MSK outcomes in persons with hemophilia. As adoption increases globally for clinical care and research, it will become increasingly important to establish clear guidelines for image acquisition, interpretation, and reporting to ensure accuracy, consistency, and comparability across groups. © 2021 The authors. The objective of this survey was to understand the global trends of imaging assessments in persons with haemophilia, focusing on point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Insights into the barriers impeding its widespread proliferation as a frontline imaging modality were obtained.

Change detection is a fundamental problem in various fields, such as image surveillance, remote sensing, medical imaging, etc. This paper extends our recent work in the area of automated change detection for MR images, by considering three dimensional (3D) volumetric data. We aim to detect changes within the 3D volumes of the same anatomical objects taken at two different times. We define the change detection as an optimization problem and propose two new 3D volumetric algorithms, the 3D AEDL-2 and the 3D EigenBlockCD-2 for detecting the changes automatically. We show the performance of the 3D EigenBlockCD-2 algorithm using real MR brain images.

Burkitt’s lymphoma is the most frequent subtype of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in childhood. Radiographic findings are protean and can often overlap with other neoplastic and nonneoplastic processes. We present an unusual case of Burkitt’s lymphoma in a 12-year-old boy presenting with a one-week history of urinary retention, dysuria, and “tailbone pain,” as well as a 4-week history of jaw pain, initially treated as a dental abscess. On dental radiography, the patient was found to have resorption of alveolar bone adjacent to the lower first molars bilaterally, in keeping with “floating teeth,” classically associated with Langerhans cell histiocytosis. Additionally, a large, eccentric, prostatic mass was noted, prompting the inclusion of rhabdomyosarcoma on the differential diagnosis, with subsequent definitive diagnosis of Burkitt’s lymphoma on tissue and bone marrow biopsy. This case highlights the imaging overlap of these childhood neoplasms with an unusual lymphomatous prostate mass. It is important that the radiologists and pediatricians be aware of this potential overlap and the unusual presentation of Burkitt’s lymphoma.

Summary: A 4-year-old boy developed progressive neck pain and an expansile osteogenic lesion of C2; the diagnosis was an aneurysmal bone cyst. An image-guided biopsy with 3D CT planning was performed followed by Ethibloc injection into the aneurysmal bone cyst. Subsequent CT and MR images demonstrated embolization material in the vertebrobasilar system, and the patient died of brain stem and cerebellar infarction 23 hours after the intervention. The course of events and technical considerations are discussed.

PURPOSE: To identify the radiologic features that might help in preoperative differentiation of the meningiomas from the remaining primary meningeal tumors, in particular the malignant tumors. METHODS: The clinical and computed tomographic features of 21 children with histologically proved primary meningeal tumors were analyzed. FINDINGS: Benign tumors (meningiomas) are more likely to occur in older children, to have longer symptom duration, and to have CT appearances similar to the "typical" adult meningioma. Atypical CT features suggest a malignant meningeal tumor, such as meningeal sarcoma, melanoma, or meningeal primitive neuroectodermal tumor. The recent identification of a new subtype of meningioma (a "sclerosing" group) is discussed. This is common in children and the CT and clinical features are similar to those seen in other meningiomas. It is frequently mistaken histologically for an intraaxial tumor, or for an atypical or malignant meningioma. These sclerosing meningiomas may also show brain invasion but despite this, in the short term, the prognosis is no different from other meningiomas. CONCLUSION: The bad reputation previously ascribed to childhood primary meningeal tumors should be confined to that small group that are malignant. Meningiomas have a more favorable outlook.
