Let $f:M\to M$ be a $C^1$ map of a compact manifold $M$, with dimension at least $2$, admitting some point whose future trajectory has only negative Lyapunov exponents. Then this trajectory converges to a periodic sink. We need only assume that $Df$ is never the null map at any point (in particular, we need no extra smoothness assumption on $Df$), encompassing a wide class of possible critical behavior. Similarly, a trajectory having only positive Lyapunov exponents for a $C^1$ diffeomorphism is itself a periodic repeller (source). Analogously for a $C^1$ open and dense subset of vector field on finite dimensional manifolds: for a flow $\phi_t$ generated by such a vector field, if a trajectory admits weak asymptotic sectional contraction (the extreme rates of expansion of the Linear Poincar\'e Flow are all negative), then this trajectory belongs either to the basin of attraction of a periodic hyperbolic attracting orbit (a periodic sink or an attracting equilibrium); or the trajectory accumulates a codimension one saddle singularity. Similar results hold for weak sectional expanding trajectories. Both results extend part of the non-uniform hyperbolic theory (Pesin's Theory) from the $C^{1+}$ diffeomorphism setting to $C^1$ endomorphisms and $C^1$ flows. Some ergodic theoretical consequences are discussed. The proofs use versions of Pliss' Lemma for maps and flows translated as (reverse) hyperbolic times, and a result ensuring that certain subadditive cocycles over vector fields are in fact additive., Comment: 37 pages; 10 figures; presentation improved after referee's report and correction of imprecise statements of lemmas 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5, and small adjustements in the proofs. We prove that a partially hyperbolic attracting set for a $C^2$ vector field, having slow recurrence to equilibria, supports an ergodic physical/SRB measure if, and only if, the trapping region admits non-uniform sectional expansion on a positive Lebesgue measure subset. Moreover, in this case, the attracting set supports at most finitely many ergodic physical/SRB measures, which are also Gibbs states along the central-unstable direction. This extends to continuous time systems a similar well-known result obtained for diffeomorphisms, encompassing the presence of equilibria accumulated by regular orbits within the attracting set., Comment: 29 pages, 4 figures

On a compact manifold of any dimension $d\geq 3$, we show that joint non-integrability of the stable and unstable foliation of a hyperbolic attractor with one-dimensional expanding direction, for a vector field of class $C^2$, implies exponential mixing with respect to its physical measure. Consequently, the set of Axiom A vector fields which mix exponentially with respect to the physical measure of its non-trivial attractors contains a $C^1$-open and $C^2$-dense subset of the set of all Axiom A vector fields. Moreover, for codimension one $C^2$ Anosov flows in any dimension $d\geq 3$, if the flow mixes with respect to the unique physical measure, then the flow mixes exponentially, proving the Bowen-Ruelle conjecture in this setting., Comment: A fatal flaw was found on a crucial lemma. There exists a $C^2$-open and $C^1$-dense subset of vector fields exhibiting singular-hyperbolic attracting sets (with codimension-two stable bundle), in any $d$-dimensional compact manifold ($d\ge3$), which mix exponentiallu with respect to any physical/SRB invariant probability measure. More precisely, we show that given any connected singular-hyperbolic attracting set for a $C^2$-vector field $X$, there exists a $C^1$-close multiple of $X$ of class $C^2$, generating a topologically equivalent flow, which is robustly exponentially mixing with respect to any physical measure for all vector fields in a $C^2$ neighborhood. That is, every singular-hyperbolic attracting set mixes exponentially with respect to its physical measures modulo an arbitrarily small change in the speed of the flow., Comment: A crucial lemma in the argument has a fatal flaw. The proof of the main statement as it stands is incomplete

For Hoelder cocycles over a Lipschitz base transformation, possibly non-invertible, we show that the subbundles given by the Oseledets Theorem are Hoelder-continuous on compact sets of measure arbitrarily close to 1. The results extend to vector bundle automorphisms, as well as to the Kontsevich-Zorich cocycle over the Teichmueller flow on the moduli space of abelian differentials. Following a recent result of Chaika-Eskin, our results also extend to any given Teichmueller disk., 29 pages; corrected a few typos and added several references and comments following referee suggestions (this is the final version content to appear in JLMS)

We prove existence of equilibrium states with special properties for a class of distance expanding local homeomorphisms on compact metric spaces and continuous potentials. Moreover, we formulate a C$^1$ generalization of Pesin's Entropy Formula: all ergodic weak-SRB-like measures satisfy Pesin's Entropy Formula for $C^1$ non-uniformly expanding maps. We show that for weak-expanding maps such that $\Leb$-a.e $x$ has positive frequency of hyperbolic times, then all the necessarily existing ergodic weak-SRB-like measures satisfy Pesin's Entropy Formula and are equilibrium states for the potential $\psi=-\log|\det Df|$. In particular, this holds for any $C^1$-expanding map and in this case the set of invariant probability measures that satisfy Pesin's Entropy Formula is the weak$^*$-closed convex hull of the ergodic weak-SRB-like measures., Comment: 47 pages, 5 figures. - Abstract
Palavras chave: Código Penal, Lei, Prática cultural, Metacontingência., The Brazilian Penal Code is the law that determines criteria for considering acts practiced by citizens as crimes as well as criteria to make them responsible for these acts. It also establishes judgement and sentences parameters for each crime. In this study, penal law is analyzed under the Behavior Analysis perspective, using, as method, the identification of contingencies descriptions of three terms and metacontingencies in the articles of the code. The code here was considered as a description of behavioral contingencies and cultural practices. Complete and incomplete descriptions were found of individual contingencies and interlocked contingencies of citizens’ behaviors and legal agents. The efficacy of the code in controlling people’s behavior is discussed by analyzing the distribution of the articles and the type of control exercised. Finally, it was concluded that, for the Penal Code to be effective in preventing violent behavior and promoting safety for the population, it cannot be analyzed in isolation. For it to have a preventive function, it is essential to understand it as part of a complex interlocking that involves other laws and other practices of agencies not directly connected to the formulation of the Code. Keywords: Penal Code, Law, Cultural Practice, Metacontingency.

This article aims to present a research and extension process involving the Federal University of Ceará and the community Lauro Vieira Chaves, from Fortaleza. Threatened by the removal of around four hundred families due to urban mobility works in Fortaleza, one of the headquarters of the World Cup, the community turned to the university for land regularization. From this meeting the project "If this street was ours" was born, with actions of art and urban resistance to give visibility to the place and to claim its permanence. During the process of realizing this project the university became involved with other demands of the community, such as strengthening the sense of resistance, identity and territoriality. As one of the results, there was a deviation from the Light Rail Vehicle route and only 66 families were removed to a nearby location. As a continuity, the project of a social interest publication entitled "Nossa Rua" is underway. Three parameters guide the project: content, language and distribution. The content addresses every process involving the community and the university. Language seeks to be a direct, sensitive and useful link between the experienced process and other communities facing similar situations. The distribution is intended to be freely accessible to cover its specific target audience and not limit its scope. In this way, social design, graphic design, urban art and urbanism are integrated into visual, individual and community repercussions, as it enables the understanding, in practice, of the responsibility and importance of participatory actions., This article presents the process of research and extension involving a public university and the community Lauro Vieira Chaves. Três parâmetros guiam o projeto: o conteúdo, a linguagem e a distribuição.

In absence of singularities, we can also characterize uniform hyperbolicity. These conditions can be expressed using the space derivative DX of the vector field X together with a field of infinitesimal Lyapunov functions only, and are reduced to checking that a certain symmetric operator is positive definite at the tangent space of every point of the trapping region.

BACKGROUND: Passive or static stretching (ALMP) is often used in rehabilitation programs and in sports; however, the morphological changes occurred are not very clear, especially after prolonged immobilization. AIMS:This study aimed to examine the muscle morphological and functional changes produced in response to three weeks of ALMP in an animal model of prolonged immobilization of hind limb (HL) in the short range. METHODS: For this purpose, 32 rats (Wistar) were used and divided in 4 groups (n = 8 each): A- control group (CONT), B - immobilized group for 21 days (IMMOB), C - remobilized group for 21 days (FREE), D - elongated group for 21 days (ELONG). The variables evaluated were body weight and muscle mass, muscle and bone length, number of myofibrils and quantity of collagen, determined by histomorphometry muscle by color contrast. The morphological variations between all the experimental groups were compared. RESULTS: The IMMOB of the femoral biceps in shortened position produced important muscular atrophy with compensatory hyperplasia, and increase (p

We describe some recent results on the dynamics of singular-hyperbolic (or Lorenz-like) attractors: attractors in this class are expansive and so sensitive with respect to initial data; they admit a unique physical measure whose support is the whole attractor, which is hyperbolic and the equilibrium state with respect to the center-unstable Jacobian; the hitting time associated to a geometric Lorenz attractor satisfies a logarithm law; the rate of large deviations for the physical measure on the ergodic basin of a geometric Lorenz attractor is exponential., 19 pages, 6 figures, short survey paper for the Springer Proceedings associated to the DYNA2008 Conference: Dynamics & Applications in honour of Mauricio Peixoto and David Rand

After reviewing known results on sensitiveness and also on robustness of attractors together with observations on their proofs, we show that for attractors of three-dimensional flows, robust chaotic behavior meaning sensitiveness to initial conditions for the past as well for the future for all nearby flows) is equivalent to the existence of certain hyperbolic structures. These structures, in turn, are associated to the existence of physical measures. In short in low dimensions, robust chaotic behavior for smooth flows ensures the existence of a physical measure., Comment: 18 pages; 6 figures. To: Modelling, Optimization and BioEconomy, Eds. The theory of uniformly hyperbolic dynamical systems was initiated in the 1960's (though its roots stretch far back into the 19th century) by S. Smale, his students and collaborators, in the west, and D. Anosov, Ya. Sinai, V. Arnold, in the former Soviet Union. It came to encompass a detailed description of a large class of systems, often with very complex evolution. Moreover, it provided a very precise characterization of structurally stable dynamics, which was one of its original main goals. The early developments were motivated by the problem of characterizing structural stability of dynamical systems, a notion that had been introduced in the 1930's by A. Andronov and L. Pontryagin. Inspired by the pioneering work of M. Peixoto on circle maps and surface flows, Smale introduced a class of gradient-like systems, having a finite number of periodic orbits, which should be structurally stable and, moreover, should constitute the majority (an open and dense subset) of all dynamical systems. Stability and openness were eventually established, in the thesis of J. Palis. However, contemporary results of M. Levinson, based on previous work by M. Cartwright and J. The concept of random dynamical system is a comparatively recent development combining ideas and methods from the well developed areas of probability theory and dynamical systems. Due to our inaccurate knowledge of the particular physical system or due to computational or theoretical limitations (lack of sufficient computational power, inefficient algorithms or insufficiently developed mathematical or physical theory, for example), the mathematical models never correspond exactly to the phenomenon they are meant to model. Moreover when considering practical systems we cannot avoid either external noise or measurement or inaccuracy errors, so every realistic mathematical model should allow for small errors along orbits not to disturb too much the long term behavior. To be able to cope with unavoidable uncertainty about the ``correct'' parameter values, observed initial states and even the specific mathematical formulation involved, we let randomness be embedded within the model to begin with. We present the most basic classes of models in what follows, then define the general concept and present some developments and examples of applications., Encyclopedia article on Random Dynamical Systems

We obtain a exponential large deviation upper bound for continuous observables on suspension semiflows over a non-uniformly expanding base transformation with non-flat singularities or criticalities, where the roof function defining the suspension behaves like the logarithm of the distance to the singular/critical set of the base map. That is, given a continuous function we consider its space average with respect to a physical measure and compare this with the time averages along orbits of the semiflow, showing that the Lebesgue measure of the set of points whose time averages stay away from the space average tends to zero exponentially fast as time goes to infinity. Suspension semiflows model the dynamics of flows admitting cross-sections, where the dynamics of the base is given by the Poincar\'e return map and the roof function is the return time to the cross-section. The results are applicable in particular to semiflows modeling the geometric Lorenz attractors and the Lorenz flow, as well as other semiflows with multidimensional non-uniformly expanding base with non-flat singularities and/or criticalities under slow recurrence rate conditions to this singular/critical set., Comment: 35 pages, 1 figure; revised the main theorem and corrected the proofs

We prove that the statistical properties of random perturbations of a nonuniformly hyperbolic diffeomorphism are described by a finite number of stationary measures. We also give necessary and sufficient conditions for the stochastic stability of such dynamical systems. We show that a certain $C^2$-open class of nonuniformly hyperbolic diffeomorphisms introduced in [Alves, J; Bonatti, C. and Viana, V., SRB measures for partially hyperbolic systems with mostly expanding central direction, Invent. Math., 140 (2000), 351-398] are stochastically stable. Our setting encompasses that of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms as well. Moreover, the techniques used enable us to obtain SRB measures in this setting through zero-noise limit measures., Comment: 32 pages; introduction revised and proofs detailed

We consider dynamical systems on compact manifolds, which are local diffeomorphisms outside an exceptional set (a compact submanifold). We are interested in analyzing the relation between the integrability (with respect to Lebesgue measure) of the first hyperbolic time map and the existence of positive frequency of hyperbolic times. We show that some (strong) integrability of the first hyperbolic time map implies positive frequency of hyperbolic times. We also present an example of a map with positive frequency of hyperbolic times at Lebesgue almost every point but whose first hyperbolic time map is not integrable with respect to the Lebesgue measure., Comment: 18 pages

We give both sufficient conditions and necessary conditions for the stochastic stability of non-uniformly expanding maps either with or without critical sets. We also show that the number of probability measures describing the statistical asymptotic behaviour of random orbits is bounded by the number of SRB measures if the noise level is small enough. As an application of these results we prove the stochastic stability of certain classes of non-uniformly expanding maps introduced in \cite{V} and \cite{ABV}., Comment: 44 pages, 2 figures

With the objective of providing useful research material for choral conductors who are also responsible for the vocal preparation of their singers, the present work is an ample study on vocal technique and performance practice in choral music. It is a work for choral conductors of mixed chamber choirs of adult amateurs singers whose number of members varies from 16 to 45 voices. After introductory considerations, historical, technical and stylistic peculiarities of various styles of vocal and choral music are presented. Among these styles are the Renaissance, the Baroque, the Classicism, the Romanticism, the Modernism, and finally, the Brazilian choral music from the Colonial period to the present time. For each of these styles, aspects like tone color, vocal techniques, the essence of choral practice as well as suggestions for sonority building are approached. In the sequence, based on the role of the conductor as a vocal coach, different technical aspects related to the construction of the choral tone - breath management, vocal resonance, diction, vocal registration, timbre, vibrato, blend, balance, intonation, and rhythmic precision - are defined and described. Afterwards, the author presents a case study that describes the elaboration and application of an experimental program of vocal preparation with the Madrigal Musicanto of Itajubá, a choir conducted by this author. Finally, to conclude this research, methodological guidelines for the vocal preparation of choral singers - dealing with the various technical aspects discussed in this work - are presented Doutorado Práticas Interpretativas Doutor em Música
