The global COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on building energy use as a result of local emergency policies such as lockdowns, remote working and increased building ventilation being applied for an extended time. In this study we apply the energy signature method to two public office buildings in Thessaloniki, Greece to compare their energy performance before (2018-2019) and during (2020-2021) the pandemic. The energy signature method normalizes electricity and natural gas consumptions to the average climate, eliminating the influence of annual weather patterns on energy use and differentiates between heating, cooling and base energy. This allows us to compare the two periods using data from monthly utility bills. Results show a reduction (ranging from 16% to 26%) in both heating and cooling energy consumptions during the pandemic period for both buildings which is not related to differences in annual weather patterns. Although this old method is quick and straightforward to use it has its own limitations which are discussed along with potential ways it can improve.

Therefore, college students may experience mental health issues, substance use problems, which can lead to a lack of involvement with university, academic performance decrease, absenteeism, or even dropout. Positive Youth Development (PYD) focus on the enhancement of youth strengths to achieve a healthy, productive and meaningful youth (Lerner et al., 2011; Shek, Dou, Zhu, & Chai, 2019). PYD is associated with emotional competence (Lau & Wu, 2012) and may depend on several situational factors such as the academic context (Årdal, Holsen, Diseth, & Larsen, 2018; Matos, Santos, Reis, Goméz-baya, & Marques, 2018). Grounded in the PYD framework and accounting for both cultural and individual variables, this project has two principal aims: 1) to study emotional competence and prosocial behaviour as predictors of student engagement (study 1); 2) to study the moderator effect of resilience internal assets on the relationship between psychosocial difficulties and academic performance (Study 2).

Τα μέχρι τώρα ερευνητικά δεδομένα δείχνουν κάποια σύνδεση της εκφοβιστικής συμπεριφοράς με το κάπνισμα, αλλά δεν δίνουν μια σαφή εικόνα αναφορικά με την εμπλοκή των εφήβων μαθητών/ριών στον σχολικό εκφοβισμό και το αν έχουν δοκιμάσει άλλες εξαρτησιογόνες ουσίες. Επιπλέον, η μειωμένη προσκόλληση στο σχολείο φαίνεται ότι συνδέεται τόσο με το αν οι συμμετέχοντες είχαν δοκιμάσει ουσίες όσο και με την εμπλοκή τους σε περιστατικά εκφοβισμού/θυματοποίησης. Ο κύριος στόχος της έρευνας αυτής ήταν να εξετάσει τη σχέση ανάμεσα στο κατά πόσο οι μαθητές/ριες είχαν δοκιμάσει ουσίες, τον σχολικό εκφοβισμό και την προσκόλληση στο σχολείο. Στην έρευνα συμμετείχαν 779 μαθητές/ριες (426 αγόρια, 353 κορίτσια) γυμνασίων και λυκείων του νομού Λάρισας. Το ερωτηματολόγιο που χρησιμοποιήθηκε αφορούσε το αν έχουν δοκιμάσει νόμιμες και παράνομες εξαρτησιογόνες ουσίες, την εμπλοκή τους σε περιστατικά εκφοβισμού/θυματοποίησης (κατηγοριοποίηση των μαθητών σε θύτες, θύματα, θύτες-θύματα και μη εμπλεκόμενους) και τον βαθμό προσκόλλησής τους στο σχολείο όπως αυτή μετριέται μέσα από τέσσερις παραμέτρους: τη δέσμευση απέναντι στο σχολείο, την αφοσίωση στο σχολείο, την εμπλοκή στις σχολικές δραστηριότητες και την πίστη στους κανόνες του σχολείου. Παρατηρήθηκε ότι όσο ισχυρότερη είναι η προσκόλληση των μαθητών/ριών με το σχολείο τόσο λιγότερο έχουν δοκιμάσει εξαρτησιογόνες ουσίες. Τα αποτελέσματα έδειξαν ότι οι θύτες και οι θύτες-θύματα είχαν δοκιμάσει εξαρτησιογόνες ουσίες περισσότερο από ό,τι τα θύματα και οι μη εμπλεκόμενοι/ες μαθητές/ριες σε περιστατικά εκφοβισμού/θυματοποίησης, ενώ καταγράφουν και χαμηλότερες τιμές στους τομείς της δέσμευσης και της αφοσίωσης. Δεν παρατηρείται στατιστικά σημαντική σχέση μεταξύ εκφοβισμού/θυματοποίησης και εμπλοκής στις σχολικές δραστηριότητες, ενώ σχετικά με την πίστη στους κανόνες του σχολείου οι υψηλότερες τιμές αφορούσαν τους/τις μη εμπλεκόμενους/ες και οι χαμηλότερες τον ρόλο «θύτης-θύμα». Τα αποτελέσματα σχολιάζονται υπό το πρίσμα των σύγχρονων ερευνητικών ευρημάτων στον τομέα του σχολικού εκφοβισμού/θυματοποίησης και προτείνονται κατευθυντήριες γραμμές για την αξιοποίησή τους σε προγράμματα παρέμβασης στον χώρο του σχολείου., Research findings have shown associations between smoking and bullying behavior, but they have not yet offered a clear picture concerning students involved in bully/victim incidents and whether they had tried addictive substances. Additionally, it seems that the less students feel connected to their school, the more they try addictive substances and the more they get involved in bullying/victimization. The main aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between bullying/victimization, school bonding during adolescence and whether students had tried substances. The sample consisted of 779 students (426 boys and 353 girls) of middle and high schools who were administered a questionnaire concerning school bullying/victimization (categorization of students in bullies, victims, bully/victims and not involved), four parameters of school bonding, namely commitment, attachment, involvement and faith in school rules, and whether they had tried legal and illegal addictive substances. Results showed that the more the students felt connected to their school, the less they had tried addictive substances. Bullies and bully/victims had tried more substances than victims and students not involved in bully/victim incidents, while they felt less connected to their school in terms of commitment and attachment. There was not any statistically significant relationship between involvement in school activities and bullying/victimization. As far as faith in school rules is concerned, not involved students exhibited the highest scores and bully/victims the lowest. The results of this study confirm previous findings in the field of bullying/victimization and are discussed in terms of their implications for school-based interventions.

Σκοπός της έρευνας ήταν να διερευνηθούν οι αντιλήψεις - εμπειρίες εφήβων μαθητών/τριών ως προς τη σύνδεση των γονεϊκών τύπων συμπεριφοράς και του σχολικού κλίματος με την πιθανή εμπλοκή τους σε περιστατικά εκφοβισμού / θυματοποίησης. Πραγματοποιήθηκε ποσοτική έρευνα με δείγμα 198 μαθητών, της Α΄, Β΄ και Γ΄ τάξης λυκείου. Οι συμμετέχοντες μαθητές/τριες απάντησαν σε τρεις κλίμακες μέτρησης, με τις οποίες αξιολογήθηκαν τα εξής: α) θυματοποίηση – εκφοβισμός, β) γονεϊκοί τύποι συμπεριφοράς και γ) σχολικό κλίμα. Από τη στατιστική ανάλυση των δεδομένων, όσον αφορά τους γονεϊκούς τύπους συμπεριφοράς, διαπιστώνεται σημαντική συσχέτιση του «τυραννικού γονέα» με την εμπλοκή των μαθητών στο φαινόμενο εκφοβισμού / θυματοποίησης και του «ανεκτικού γονέα» μόνο με την εκδήλωση του σχολικού εκφοβισμού. Όσον αφορά το σχολικό κλίμα παρατηρείται σημαντική σχέση με την εκδήλωση του φαινομένου για τη διάσταση της «εμπλοκής». Τέλος, διαπιστώνεται ότι συνολικά το αρνητικό σχολικό κλίμα αποτελεί ισχυρότερο προβλεπτικό παράγοντα της εμπλοκής των μαθητών/τριών σε περιστατικά εκφοβισμού / θυματοποίησης συγκριτικά με τους γονεϊκούς τύπους συμπεριφοράς. Over the last few years, there has been an increasing interest to identify biobased alternatives to acrylic acid in UV-curing materials. In this respect, itaconic acid has drawn considerable attention, due to its structural similarity. However, the second acid group in the molecule limits its use in many applications, as undesired side reactions can occur. One solution is the use of monoesters of itaconic acid to mimic the properties of acrylic acid. However, to date, no general applicable and straightforward synthetic protocol has been reported. Herein, the synthesis of a variety of monoesters of itaconic acid is presented. The methodology tolerates a broad substrate scope, is highly efficient, and does not suffer from tedious purification steps; therefore it can be applied on large scale. In the next step, the monoesters were reacted with epoxidized soybean oil to produce biobased UV-curing oligomers. The influence of the different monoesters on the properties of the functionalized vegetable oils, such as viscosity as well as the reactivity toward UV-light induced radical cross-linking, was studied. In addition, these findings were compared with those of acrylated soybean oil. Despite the lower rate of polymerization of the itaconic acid-based oligomers, the double bond conversion was higher in some cases. In addition, the viscosity was found to be lower in comparison to that of the acrylic acid-derived compound, making these novel monoesters promising alternatives to the petrochemical-based acrylic acid.

Electroforming is an electrochemical additive manufacturing process. Some of the strengths of this process include the high energy and resource efficiency coupled with low power consumption. Specifically, nickel electroforming is widely applied in aviation and space industries for the manufacturing of precision, lightweight parts, such as erosion shields. However, as current techniques rely on traditional chemistry and processing methods, utilisation of nickel electroforming remains a specialist activity. Our team aspires to bring the electroforming process to the forefront of AM by opening new horizons for precision manufacturing and overcoming limitations which have rendered specific products "impossible to manufacture" up to this day.

Electrical Energy Storage (EES) systems aspire to store the power network’s energy and provide it back when necessary, eliminating the discrepancies between demand and supply. During the last decade, lithium-ion batteries have been established as an important pillar in humanity’s effort, not only to produce “cleaner power” but, also, to develop a safe, environmentally friendly and low-cost set of methods and technologies for storing the produced power. They are -by far- the most common medium for storing energy, at a small scale (e.g. portable electronics), as one of their numerous advantages is the fact that they can be used in conjunction with many different installations of the existing grid’s infrastructure. Focusing, mainly, on the mechanisms that apply in the solid-state, Li-ion conduction in Li-ion batteries takes place due to the defects existing in their crystalline solid components. Today, concerns that relate to safety, cost, charge/discharge rates, cycle life and energy density of Li-ion batteries have risen questions which need to be answered. During the last two decades, high-end research has been conducted aiming to address the challenges and limitations of lithium metal batteries (LMBs) presented previously. The ongoing efforts focus on the suppression of lithium dendritic growth, either through the use of solid electrolytes that act as mechanical barriers, or through development of electrolytes which produce a suitable passivation layer, widely known as the “solid-electrolyte interphase” (SEI). Nowadays, safety concerns have led to the extensive use of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), rather than LMBs, as no entirely successful strategy has been developed to suspend the growth of dendrites. Complex hydrides are among the most promising candidate materials for use as solid-state electrolytes. As the demand for energy storage systems that are compact, lightweight, and powerful continues to grow, mainly due to the worldwide proliferation of portable electronic devices. Sodium, lithium and boron are the lightest elements that can form solid-state compounds with hydrogen, such as LiBH4. Researchers’ interest into the properties of lithium borohydride (LiBH4) first arose due to indications that it could function as a promising hydrogen storage material. Following its extensive study as a hydrogen storage material, LiBH4 has drawn interest as a potential electrolyte for solid-state batteries. This was proposed by the discovery that LiBH4 undergoes a structural transition from its orthorhombic, low temperature (LT-) phase to a hexagonal, high temperature (HT-) phase at 380 K. Following the stabilisation of the HT-phase at room temperature (RT), attempts have been made to synthesise sodium-substituted lithium borohydride but, previous work has suggested that a direct reaction between LiBH4 and NaBH4 is not possible. This project had been focused on the stabilisation of the high pressure (HP-) phase of LiBH4 at RT. Our efforts have been successful in the investigation of the most simple and efficient way to synthesise, stabilise and characterise the ion conducting, HP-phase of LiBH4.

Dehydration is associated with several alternations in body homeostasis involving both physiological and mental aspects. In addition some studies have reported a negative effect of dehydration on subjectively assessed sleep-related parameters. The aim of the current study was to examine for the first time the effect of controlled dehydration on sleep quality and quantity using the gold-standard method of polysomnography. Twelve healthy male volunteers participated in this study (23.4 ± 0.8 years). Participants performed an in-house full polysomnographic assessment in two different occasions taking place in random order: (i) in a dehydrated state and (ii) in a euhydrated state. In the dehydration scenario, the participants were allowed to consume only 1.25 L of non-caffeinated fluids, while during the euhydrated state participants had to drink at least 3 L of non-caffeinated fluids during the last 24 hr before the polysomnographic study. Urine specific gravity was assessed by refractrometry on collection day in order to assess hydration status. Participants who did not fulfil the hydration criteria were rescheduled. All participants successfully completed the two polysomnographic studies without any complaints or adverse effects reported. No significant differences were found in any of the examined indices of sleep quality and quantity between the dehydration and euhydration scenarios (p > .05). This is the first study to show that controlled mild dehydration does not seem to affect sleep quality and quantity in young healthy adults. More research is necessary to further verify these conclusions and assess whether other parameters are involved in the manifestation of sleep disturbances. 28 3

The purpose of our study was to support six primary school children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)- out of a sample of 16 pupils with and without SEN- in order to improve their writing skills by using the method of differentiated teaching through Children's literature. The intervention lasted 6 teaching hours during which all children edited a variety of creative activities based on two chosen literature texts, with the writing tasks being differentiated for children with SEN. The collected data proved that most children with SEN increased the text size they produced but they presented variations regarding the quality of the vocabulary they used.

BACKGROUND and AIM: Research showed that behavioural modification techniques\ud were the most effective way to achieve and maintain a healthy weight compared to diet\ud and exercise alone. If behavioural modification was the most effective technique, then at\ud least the two thirds of the candidates (Weight Loss Candidate with Behaviour\ud Modification-WLCB) who used the specific behavioural modification techniques\ud regarding eating and physical activity would achieve a weight loss of average ½ -1kg per\ud week for the 18 weeks of the treatment and then maintain it or continue to lose after\ud treatment termination with a total treatment period of 36 weeks. The treatment was\ud efficient and long-lasting compared to the control candidates who followed a diet plan\ud only. Furthermore, if the use of behavioural modification was the most effective way for\ud diet and exercise, then the weight loss and maintenance would be more efficient and\ud long-lasting. The principal aim of this project was to develop behaviour modification\ud techniques (protocol and guidelines) in order to promote effective weight management\ud for sedentary and active Cypriot adults, concentrating on nutrition and exercise.\ud STUDY DESIGN: The study was quantitative and qualitative in nature using an action\ud research approach. Furthermore, it was observational and longitudinal using structured\ud methods and a representative sample of adults 19-50 years of age is investigated for 36\ud weeks.\ud METHODS: Anthropometric data and health and diet history were taken using standard\ud methods from 315 (the control and intervention group (1:1) Cypriot adults from rural and\ud urban areas.\ud Individualised diet plans, personalised physical activities as well as behavioural\ud modification parameters were assessed with the aid of a questionnaire, interview, food\ud and exercise diary and behavioural checklist. Obesity and overweight were defined using\ud the current International Obesity Task Force definition. The validated questionnaires for\ud Physical Activity (IPAQ) and the nutritional assessment (National Integrated Health\ud Associates) were used for initial assessment and the behavioural checklists were used for\ud the follow up. Behavioural checklists were completed by the candidates on a bi-weekly\ud basis along with the food and exercise diary. The questionnaire reliability (test-retest),\ud internal consistency and ability to differentiate obese vs. normal-weight adult behaviours\ud were tested using a pilot population of 50 adults not enrolled in a formal weight loss\ud programme. Its reliability (checklists, food and exercise diary) and predictive validity\ud were tested using a selective population: 265 adults of the observational group enrolled in\ud behavioural modification treatment vs. diet.\ud OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: Τhe objectives of the research were\ud a) The study of every aspect of weight management and thus be capable of making\ud suggestions for the development of guidelines and protocols for behavioural\ud modification to health professionals working with the public.\ud b) The identification and adjustment of eating and exercise behaviour related to body\ud weight in order to achieve an efficient weight management in Cypriot\ud overweight/obese adults.\ud c) The evaluation of the effectiveness of the modest lifestyle changes in weight\ud management induced by short-term energy/calorie restriction and behaviour\ud modification in overweight and obese Greek Cypriots with Body Mass Index (BMI)\ud above 25 or 30 respectively, or body weight 20% or above of Ideal Body weight\ud (IBW), or body fat above normal levels.\ud d) The development of education and counselling protocols and guidelines for\ud professionals for weight management protocols based on the Mediterranean Diet\ud and the eating and exercise habits of Cypriot Adults.\ud e) The implementation of the protocols to intervention groups in order to identify the\ud efficiency.\ud OUTCOMES: The outcomes of the project was the development of an education and\ud counselling protocol/manual which included teaching tools and guidelines for\ud professionals for weight management with the title “Protocol and Guidelines for\ud professional users for weight management for Adults: assessment, categorization,\ud therapy/ follow up of overweight and obesity”. The development of an eating behaviour\ud and physical activity protocol/manual based on the Mediterranean Diet and the\ud demonstrated eating and exercise habits of Cypriot Adults can be used by the\ud stakeholders and the public for efficient and effective weight management.\ud RESULTS: The average length of weight loss treatment was 18 weeks for the\ud intervention and the control groups, and the average weight loss for the intervention\ud group was 11.96kg (t-test, p-value ≤ 0.001) and for the control group was 5.56kg\ud (t-test, p-value≤ 0.002). During the 18 weeks of the maintenance period the 50% of the\ud intervention group continued to lose while, an additional 48% of them maintained the\ud weight and only 2% of them gained weight.\ud CONCLUSIONS: To conclude, the prevalence of obesity worldwide has reached\ud epidemic proportions. Physical inactivity and poor diet have been identified as primary\ud contributors to the leading causes of death in developed countries including Cyprus. It is\ud unfortunate that more emphasis is given to calorie restriction dieting rather than\ud behavioural modification for diet and physical activity in achieving and maintaining\ud weight loss. The fact is that incorporating appropriate behavioural modification\ud techniques for diet and sufficient physical activity into one’s life is an essential\ud component of achieving a healthy body weight.\ud The research project aimed at developing a behavioural approach and behavioural\ud modification techniques for the treatment of obesity and weight management adjusted to\ud the needs of the Cypriot adult population. The difference of this approach underlines the\ud emphasis that has to be given to the follow-up programme for the maintenance of the\ud weight loss through behavioural modification. This approach evolved from the\ud environmental control of eating behaviour to a broader approach characterized by\ud systematic manipulation of all factors associated with eating and exercise patterns. The\ud need for the project derives from the fact that obesity is a chronic condition with a\ud substantial potential for relapse; therefore long–term treatments are needed. The\ud expected outcomes of this project are the development of guidelines and protocols to be\ud used by health professionals. The ultimate goal is the reduction of the obesity epidemic\ud in Cyprus.

Μέσα σε αυτά περιλαμβάνεται μια διαπιστωμένα υψηλότερη θερμοκρασία, φαινόμενο γνωστό ως θερμική νησίδα, αλλά και αλλαγές στην υδρολογία, όπως η αύξηση της επιφανειακής απορροής μετά από βροχοπτώσεις. Αυτές οι διαφοροποιήσεις είναι αποτέλεσμα της συσσώρευσης του πληθυσμού σε μία περιοχή φαινόμενο που οδηγεί στην αλλαγή του τοπίου της. Οι αλλαγές αυτές περιλαμβάνουν τη μεταβολή του ποσοστού οικοδομήσιμων και μη οικοδομήσιμων περιοχών με αποτέλεσμα τη δέσμευση των ελεύθερων χώρων πρασίνου που αντικαθίστανται από αδιαπέραστες επιφάνειες. Ο περιορισμός της βλάστησης οδηγεί σε μείωση της διαδικασίας της εξατμισοδιαπνοής, η οποία έχει την ιδιότητα να ψύχει τον αέρα, ενώ παράλληλα η αύξηση των στεγανών επιφανειών μειώνουν την διήθηση των νερών των βροχοπτώσεων. Η συγκεκριμένη εργασία διερευνά την επανατοποθέτηση της βλάστησης σε μία αστική περιοχή και εξετάζει εναλλακτικά σενάρια εισαγωγής βλάστησης για βελτίωση του αστικού περιβάλλοντος. Η εργασία παρουσιάζει αποτελέσματα από ένα μοντέλο απόδοσης θερμοκρασίας (Envi-met) και ένα υδραυλικό μοντέλο (Mike Urban), τα οποία εφαρμόστηκαν αρχικά στις υπάρχουσες συνθήκες αλλά και σε δύο σενάρια υποθετικής προσθήκης βλάστησης. Το ένα σενάριο αναφέρεται στην εισαγωγή χαμηλής βλάστησης σε ταρατσόκηπους, ενώ το άλλο στην αντίστοιχη εισαγωγή βλάστησης σε εσωτερικές αυλές. Η περιοχή του Τούρσοβ στο Όσλο της Νορβηγίας χρησιμοποιείται ως περίπτωση μελέτης όπου εφαρμόστηκε η μεθοδολογία. Από τα στοιχεία που προέκυψαν, επιβεβαιώνεται η μείωση της θερμοκρασίας μετά την εισαγωγή βλάστησης και πιο συγκεκριμένα οι ταρατσόκηποι συμβάλλουν στην βελτίωση του κλίματος σε ένα σημαντικό ποσοστό., While the global population is more concentrated in urban areas serious problems have occurred. This concentration of people in a comparatively small area is known as urbanization. Urbanization is connected with changes in infrastructure of the area that cover the needs of individuals and groups. The demand for more housing has lead to a reduction of the green areas that are being replaces with impervious surfaces. This has lead to a number of changes in the biophysical features of the urban environment in relation to the surrounding rural areas. These include the significantly higher temperatures that an urban environment has compared to the countryside, known as urban heat island, and changes to the hydrology such as an increased of the surface runoff of rainwater. This thesis explores the impact of vegetation when it is placed back into the urban environment. The current situation is tested and compared to two different scenarios of green infrastructure. The methodology will be applied to Torshov, Oslo, -Norway. It is presented the output of the temperature model (Envi-met) and hydrological models (Mike Urban) that show the reduction of the surface temperature and the surface runoff between the current situation and the different scenarios. From the derived data, it has been confirmed that after the input of vegetation there is a reduction in temperature and in particular that rooftop gardens contribute to the thermal benefit of their surrounding environments., Ελένη A. Bullying has been recognized as a widespread, persistent and serious problem occurring in schools across different national contexts. Despite the surge of interest in bullying in recent years, much of the research has focused on its multiple facets and characteristics among non-disabled students, while little is known about its incidence and dimensions in the population of students receiving special education support provision. It is well-known that schooling has generally been constructed and operates around the notions of normalization and homogeneity and children’s diversity often generates discriminating responses contributing to exclusionary educational experiences. In the light of above, the present study aims at exploring the extent and different types of bullying and victimization among Greek students receiving special education support provision. The sample of the study consisted of 173 students attending 5th and 6th primary school grades and participating in pull-out special education delivery programs operating within mainstream schools. According to the findings, participants were actively involved in both bullying and victimization with higher rates in victimization. Bullying was mainly related to physical aggressiveness, humiliating and racist behaviors towards others and social isolation from peers, while victimization included destruction of personal belongings and being attacked. Statistically significant differences were identified between girls and boys over the different types of bullying and victimization getting involved in, with girls experiencing mostly social isolation and manipulation from others and boys displaying aggressiveness towards others and attacking peers. Statistically significant differences were also found in physical bullying between children receiving more than 12 hours a week special education support and the rest. Children with developmental disabilities tended to use more indirect methods of bullying such as social exclusion more often than children with learning difficulties and children with learning difficulties combined with socio-emotional behavioral disorders. Overall bullying behavior was found to be predicted by presence of playmates during playtime and victimization by absence of playmates during break and limited number of friends in class. While the poor psychosocial outcomes of young people who have experienced bullying are well known, the harm associated with experiences that do not meet the bullying criteria is not well understood. The aim of this study was to examine the level of harm associated with experiences of peer aggression, as well as bullying, by directly measuring the four elements of intent, perceived harm, repetition and power imbalance that comprise the bullying criteria. The purpose of the study was to establish whether bullying was the most harmful form of peer aggression and whether other types of peer aggression that did not comprise all elements of bullying were comparably harmful. Over 6000 students (aged 11-16) from 10 countries completed a student victimization and aggression questionnaire. Data showed that approximately 50% of participants were not intentionally harmed through peer aggression, although this varied across countries, ranging from 10% in India to 87.5% in Taiwan. In all countries, analyses identified a group that had experienced repeated peer aggression, but with no power imbalance, comparable in size to the bullied group, suggesting that bullying is just "the tip of the iceberg". Victims of bullying self-reported the greatest experiences of harm, although victims of repeated aggression reported comparable harm. The findings show that peer aggression experiences that do not meet the bullying criteria are also rated as harmful by victims. More research is needed to fully understand negative peer interactions that include behaviors outside the scope of the bullying definition, particularly with regard to repeated peer aggression. This study suggests that researchers should consider the level of harm experienced by individuals and avoid terminology such as bullying, while policy makers should place a strong and explicit focus on encompassing a broader realm of harmful peer aggression.

Σκοπός της παρούσας έρευνας είναι η διερεύνηση της διαχρονικής σχέσης που υφίσταται μεταξύ του σχολικού εκφοβισμού και θυματοποίησης, των γονικών παραγόντων και των προβλημάτων εσωτερίκευσης του παιδιού, εντός ενός αλληλεπιδραστικού πλαισίου ανάπτυξης. Για το σκοπό αυτό αναπτύσσεται ένα διαχρονικό δομικό μοντέλο εξισώσεων, το οποίο περιλαμβάνει τις ακόλουθες μεταβλητές όσον αφορά τη μητέρα και τον πατέρα ξεχωριστά: μητρική και πατρική ανταπόκριση, μητρική και πατρική παραχωρητικότητα και μητρική και πατρική υπερπροστατευτικότητα. Όσον αφορά το παιδί, το μοντέλο περιλαμβάνει το σχολικό εκφοβισμό που αυτό εκδηλώνει, τις εμπειρίες θυματοποίησης που βιώνει και τα προβλήματα εσωτερίκευσης που παρουσιάζει. Το μοντέλο υποθέτει αρνητική αμφίδρομη σχέση μεταξύ γονικής ανταπόκρισης και σχολικού εκφοβισμού και θυματοποίησης και θετική αμφίδρομη σχέση μεταξύ γονικής παραχωρητικότητας και σχολικού εκφοβισμού και θυματοποίησης. Αναμενόταν επίσης αρνητική σχέση μεταξύ γονικής ανταπόκρισης και προβλημάτων εσωτερίκευσης του παιδιού, καθώς και θετική σχέση μεταξύ των παιδικών προβλημάτων εσωτερίκευσης και θυματοποίησης. Η γονική υπερπροστατευτικότητα αναμενόταν να σχετίζεται θετικά τόσο με τη θυματοποίηση όσο και με τα προβλήματα εσωτερίκευσης του παιδιού. Για όλες τις προαναφερθείσες μεταβλητές έχουν ληφθεί μετρήσεις σε 2 διαφορετικές στιγμές, χρονικής απόστασης 6 μηνών μεταξύ τους. Τo δείγμα αποτελείται από 701 παιδιά των Δ’, Ε’ και Στ’ τάξεων 7 δημόσιων δημοτικών σχολείων της Κύπρου και τους γονείς των παιδιών αυτών. Για τη συλλογή των ποσοτικών δεδομένων έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί κλίμακες τύπου Likert, οι οποίες έχουν ήδη μεταφραστεί στα ελληνικά και έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί στο κυπριακό συγκείμενο στα πλαίσια προηγούμενων ερευνών. Τα αποτελέσματα κατέδειξαν διαχρονική θετική επίδραση του σχολικού εκφοβισμού τόσο στη μητρική όσο και στην πατρική παραχωρητικότητα. Η μητρική και πατρική ανταπόκριση φάνηκε να προβλέπουν αρνητικά την παιδική θυματοποίηση. Η πατρική ανταπόκριση φάνηκε επίσης να προβλέπει την ανταπόκριση της μητέρας και κατά παρόμοιο τρόπο, η πατρική παραχωρητικότητα φάνηκε να προβλέπει την αντίστοιχη μητρική διάσταση. Αν και δεν εντοπίστηκαν επιπρόσθετες διαχρονικές κατευθυντικές σχέσεις μεταξύ των υπό εξέταση μεταβλητών, τα αποτελέσματα κατέδειξαν συγχρονικές στατιστικά σημαντικές συσχετίσεις μεταξύ της πλειοψηφίας των μεταβλητών που περιλήφθηκαν στο δομικό μοντέλο. Οι συσχετίσεις μεταξύ γονικών παραμέτρων, εκφοβισμού, θυματοποίησης και παιδικών προβλημάτων εσωτερίκευσης ήταν σύμφωνες με τις ερευνητικές υποθέσεις του έργου. Ωστόσο, αντίθετα με την αντίστοιχη υπόθεση, δεν έχει εντοπιστεί στατιστικά σημαντική σχέση μεταξύ γονικής υπερπροστατευτικότητας και θυματοποίησης. Πραγματοποιήθηκε επίσης έλεγχος της επίδρασης του φύλου, της τάξης του παιδιού και του κονωνικοοικονομικού επιπέδου της οικογένειας. Τα αγόρια φάνηκε να εμπλέκονται σε περισσότερα περιστατικά εκφοβιστικής συμπεριφοράς από ότι τα κορίτσια, ενώ δεν έχει εντοπιστεί διαφορά φύλου αναφορικά με τις εμπειρίες θυματοποίησης. Τόσο οι μητέρες όσο και οι πατέρες φάνηκαν να είναι πιο παραχωρητικοί με τα αγόρια σε σχέση με τα κορίτσια, ενώ τα κορίτσια δήλωσαν στατιστικά σημαντικά μεγαλύτερη μητρική ανταπόκριση σε σύγκριση με τα αγόρια. Οι πατέρες δήλωσαν ότι είναι περισσότερο υπερπροστατευτικοί με τα κορίτσια σε σχέση με τα αγόρια, ενώ οι μητέρες φάνηκε να επιδεικνύουν γενικά μεγαλύτερη ανταπόκριση στις ανάγκες των παιδιών και να είναι περισσότερο υπερπροστατευτικές σε σχέση με τους πατέρες.(...) The purpose of the present study is to examine the longitudinal relationship among bullying and victimization, parental parameters and child’s emotional status. For this aim, a reciprocal framework of associations between parental and child’s behavior is adopted and a longitudinal cross-lagged structural model is developed. As regards parental parameters, the following factors are examined: maternal and paternal responsiveness, maternal and paternal permissiveness and maternal and paternal overprotectiveness. Bullying and victimization experiences, as well as internalizing problems are measured regarding child. It is hypothesized that reciprocal relations will be identified between parental behavior and bullying/ victimization experiences, whereas reciprocal relations are also assumed between bullying/ victimization and child’s internalizing problems. All variables are measured twice in a six-month period of time. The sample of the study consists of 701 students aged 9-12 years old (forth, fifth and sixth level of six public primary schools in Cyprus) their mothers and their fathers. Likert-scale questionnaires, which were previously adopted in Greek language and Cypriot context, are used for the data collection. Moderation by gender, grade and socioeconomic status is also investigated. Results suggest longitudinal unidirectional effects from school bullying to both maternal and paternal permissiveness and from maternal and paternal responsiveness to victimization. Maternal responsiveness is associated with paternal responsiveness, whereas maternal permissiveness is associated with paternal permissiveness. Boys exert more bullying behavior than girls do, whilst no gender difference was identified regarding victimization. Both mothers and fathers are more permissive with boys than girls, whereas girls reported more maternal responsiveness than boys. Fathers reported being more overprotective with their daughters than sons. During the second measurement, students of sixth grade reported less victimization and more parental permissiveness from fourth-graders and fifth-graders. No statistically significant differences were identified regarding socioeconomic status. The cross-lagged model shows structural and measurement equivalence among the above-mentioned groups compared, thus any differences concerning the means do not seem to affect the quality of the parent-child relationships. The results of the present study add to the limited existing research on a transactional view of parent-child behavior and could be applied for the development of intervention programs against school bullying and victimization.
