${\cal C}$-operators were introduced as involution operators in non-Hermitian theories that commute with the time-independent Hamiltonians and the parity/time-reversal operator. Here we propose a definition for time-dependent ${\cal C}(t)$-operators and demonstrate that for a particular signature they may be expanded in terms of time-dependent biorthonormal left and right eigenvectors of Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants. The vanishing commutation relation between the ${\cal C}$-operator and the Hamiltonian in the time-independent case is replaced by the Lewis-Riesenfeld equation in the time-dependent scenario. Thus, ${\cal C}(t)$-operators are always Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants, whereas the inverse is only true in certain circumstances. We demonstrate the working of the generalities for a non-Hermitian two-level matrix Hamiltonian. We show that solutions for ${\cal C}(t)$ and the time-dependent metric operator may be found that hold in all three ${\cal PT}$-regimes, i.e., the ${\cal PT}$-regime, the spontaneously broken ${\cal PT}$-regime and at the exceptional point., Comment: 12 pages, 1 figure

We demonstrate that the existence of a Hermitian time-dependent intertwining operator that maps the non-Hermitian time-dependent energy operator to its Hermitian conjugate and its right to its left eigenstates guarantees the reality of the instantaneous energies. This property holds throughout all three $\cal{PT}$-regimes, in the time-independent scenario referred to as the $\cal{PT}$-symmetric regime, the exceptional point and the spontaneously broken $\cal{PT}$-regime. We also propose a modified adiabatic approximation consisting of an expansion of the wavefunctions in terms the instantaneous eigenstates of the energy operator, instead of the usually used eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonian. We show that this proposal always leads to real Berry phases. We illustrate the working of our general proposals with two explicit examples for a time-dependent non-Hermitian spin model., Comment: 12 pages

We construct and analyse the moduli space (collective coordinates) for a classical field theory in 1 + 1 dimensions that possesses complex stable multi-soliton solutions with real energies when PT-regularized. For the integrable Bullough-Dodd model we show, by comparing with the exact solutions, that a one-dimensional moduli space captures well the main feature of the centre of mass motion of the one and two-soliton solutions. We demonstrate that even the time-delay and spatial displacements occurring for the one-soliton constituents in a multi-soliton scattering process can be extracted from a moduli space analysis. We propose a two dimensional moduli space to describe the newly found triple bouncing scattering amongst the constituents of a dark two double peakon scattering., Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures

We construct Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants from two dimensional point transformations for two oscillators that are coupled to each other in space in a PT-symmetrical and time-dependent fashion. The non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of the model is conveniently expressed in terms of generators of the symplectic $sp(4)$ Lie algebra. This allows for an alternative systematic approach to find Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants leading to a set of coupled differential equations that we solve by using time-ordered exponentials. We also demonstrate that point transformations may be utilized to directly construct time-dependent Dyson maps from their respective time-independent counterparts in the reference system., Comment: 19 pages

Non-Hermitian theories that are explicitly PT-symmetric and/or quasi/pseudo-Hermitian have become the subject of an active research field for the last two decades. They constitute well-defined classical and quantum theories possessing real eigenvalue spectra and unitary time-evolution. Since the underlying concepts are generic, the general principles have been applied in essentially all areas of physics and have unravelled new theoretical insights and experimental realisations especially in optical applications. Beginning in 2003 a regular conference series entitled “Pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonians in Quantum Physics” has taken place annually to bring together researchers in order to take stock of the current state of the field and to assist participants to collaborate in developing new ideas. Unfortunately, the 20th meeting in this series, which was scheduled originally for 2020 to be held in Los Alamos had to be postponed to 2022 due to the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic. To bridge the gap and to provide a platform to allow for a continued exchange of ideas and novelties a virtual seminar series via Zoom with a dedicated website (https://vphhqp.com) was organised by Andreas Fring and Francisco Correa. With currently more than 50 seminars scheduled and well over 200 registered participants, the series is still ongoing. The main motivation behind this special issue has been to allow speakers and participants in this series to present their results in a coherent written in the form of mini-reviews of certain subtopics in the field and new research results. We hope that this special issue will become a valuable reference and inspiration for a broad scientific community, experts and newcomers alike, working in mathematical and theoretical physics. We propose and investigate several complex versions of extensions and restrictions of the Skyrme model with a well-defined Bogomolny-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) limit. The models studied possess complex kink, anti-kink, semi-kink, massless and purely imaginary compacton BPS solutions that all have real energies. The reality of the energies for a particular solution is guaranteed when a modified antilinear CPT-symmetry maps the Hamiltonian functional to its parity time-reversed complex conjugate and the solution field to itself or a new field with degenerate energy. In addition to the known BPS Skyrmion configurations we find new types that we refer to as step, cusp, shell, and purely imaginary compacton solutions., 21 pages, 7 figures

We propose and explore a scheme that leads to an infinite series of time- dependent Dyson maps which associate different Hermitian Hamiltonians to a uniquely specified time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. We identify the underlying sym- metries responsible for this feature respected by various Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants. The latter are used to facilitate the explicit construction of the Dyson maps and metric oper- ators. As a concrete example for which the scheme is worked out in detail we present a two-dimensional system of oscillators that are coupled to each other in a non-Hermitian PT -symmetrical fashion, 16 pages

We present an overview of some key results obtained in a recent series devoted to non-Hermitian quantum field theories for which we systematically modify the underlying symmetries. Particular attention is placed on the interplay between the continuous symmetry group that we alter from global to local, from Abelian to non-Abelian, from rank one to generic rank N, and the discrete anti-linear modified CPT-symmetries. The presence of the latter guarantees the reality of the mass spectrum in a certain parameter regime. We investigate the extension of Goldstone's theorem and the Higgs mechanism, which we demonstrate to work in the conventional fashion in the CPT symmetric regime, but which needs to be modified technically at the standard exceptional points of the mass spectrum and entirely fails at what we refer to as zero exceptional points as well as in the broken CPT-symmetric regime. In the full non-Hermitian non-Abelian gauge theory we identify the t'Hooft-Polyakov monopoles by means of a fourfold Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) limit. We investigate this limit further for other types of non-Hermitian field theories in 1+1 dimensions that possess complex super-exponential and inverse hyperbolic kink/anti-kink solutions and for 3+1 dimensional Skyrme models for which we find new types of complex solutions, that all have real energies due to the presence of different types of CPT-symmetries., 24 pages, 6 figures, Contribution to the proceedings in the Journal of Physics: Conference Series (IoP Publishing)

We demonstrate that complex point transformations can be used to construct non-Hermitian first integrals, time-dependent Dyson maps and metric operators for non-Hermitian quantum systems. Initially we identify a point transformation as a map from an exactly solvable time-independent system to an explicitly time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian system. Subsequently we employ the point transformation to construct the non-Hermitian time-dependent invariant for the latter system. Exploiting the fact that this invariant is pseudo-Hermitian, we construct a corresponding Dyson map as the adjoint action from a non-Hermitian to a Hermitian invariant, thus obtaining solutions to the time-dependent Dyson and time-dependent quasi-Hermiticity equation together with solutions to the corresponding time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation., Comment: 18 pages

Recently a variety of nonlocal integrable systems has been introduced that besides fields located at particlar space-time points simultaneously also contain fields that are located at different, but symmetrically related, points. Here we investigate different types of soliton solutions with regard to their stability against linear pertubations obtained for the nonlocal version of the Hirota/nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation and the so-called Alice and Bob versions of the Korteweg-de Vries and Bousinesq equations. We encounter different types of scenarios: Solition solutions that are linearly stable or unstable and also solutions that change their stability properties depending on the parameter regime they are in., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

We investigate different types of complex soliton solutions with regard to their stability against linear pertubations. In the Bullough-Dodd scalar field theory we find linearly stable complex ${\cal{PT}}$-symmetric solutions and linearly unstable solutions for which the ${\cal{PT}}$-symmetry is broken. Both types of solutions have real energies. The auxiliary Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue equation in the stability analysis for the ${\cal{PT}}$-symmetric solutions can be solved exactly by supersymmetrically mapping it to an isospectral partner system involving a shifted and scaled inverse $\cosh$-squared potential. We identify exactly one shape mode in form of a bound state solution and scattering states which when used as linear perturbations leave the solutions stable. The auxiliary problem for the solutions with broken ${\cal{PT}}$-symmetry involves a complex shifted and scaled inverse $\sin$-squared potential. The corresponding bound and scattering state solutions have complex eigenvalues, such that when used as linear perturbations for the corresponding soliton solutions lead to their decay or blow up as time evolves., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

We construct exact t Hooft-Polyakov monopole solutions in a non-Hermitian field theory with local non-Abelian SU(2) gauge symmetry and a modified antilinear CPT symmetry. The solutions are obtained in a fourfold Bogomolny-Prasad-Sommerfield scaling limit giving rise to two different types of monopole masses that saturate the lower energy bound. These two masses only coincide in the Hermitian limit and in the limit in which the symmetry breaking vacuum tends to the trivial symmetry preserving vacuum. In the two theories corresponding to the two known Dyson maps these two masses are exchanged, unlike the Higgs and the gauge masses, which remain the same in both theories. We identify three separate regions in parameter space bounded by different types of exceptional points. In the first region the monopole masses are finite and tend both to zero at the boundary exceptional point, in the second the monopole masses become complex and in the third only one of the monopole masses becomes zero at the boundary exceptional point, whereas the other tends to infinity. We find a self-dual point in parameter space at which the gauge mass becomes exactly identical to the monopole mass., 16 pages, 3 figures

We investigate the Englert-Brout-Higgs-Guralnik-Hagen-Kibble mechanism for non-Hermitian field theories with local non-Abelian gauge symmetry in different regions of their parameter spaces. We demonstrate that the two aspects of the mechanism, that is giving mass to gauge vector bosons and at the same time preventing the existence of massless Goldstone bosons, remain to be synchronized in all regimes characterized by a modified CPT symmetry. In the domain of parameter space where the "would be Goldstone bosons" can be identified the gauge vector bosons become massive and the Goldstone bosons cease to exist. The mechanism is also in tact at the standard exceptional points. However, at the zero exceptional points, that is when the eigenvalues of the mass squared matrix vanish irrespective of the symmetry breaking, the mechanism breaks down as the Goldstone bosons can not be identified and the gauge vector bosons remain massless. This breakdown coincides with the vanishing of the CPT inner product of symmetry breaking vacua defined on the eigenvector space of mass squared matrix. We verify this behaviour for a theory with SU(N) symmetry in which the complex scalar fields are taken in the fundamental as well as in the adjoint representation., 24 pages, 1 figure, extended version

We provide a time-dependent Dyson map and metric for the two dimensional harmonic oscillator with a non-Hermitian $i xy$ coupling term. This particular time-independent model exhibits spontaneously broken $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry and becomes unphysical in the broken regime, with the spectrum becoming partially complex. By introducing an explicit time-dependence into the Dyson map, we provide a time-dependent metric that renders the model consistent across the unbroken and broken regimes., 7 pages

We generalise previous studies on the extension of Goldstone's theorem from Hermitian to non-Hermitian quantum field theories with Abelian symmetries to theories possessing a glocal non-Abelian symmetry. We present a detailed analysis for a non-Hermitian field theory with two complex two component scalar fields possessing a SU(2)-symmetry and indicate how our finding extend to the general case. In the PT-symmetric regime and at the standard exceptional point the Goldstone theorem is shown to apply, although different identification procedures need to be employed. At the zero exceptional points the Goldstone boson can not be identified. Comparing our approach, based on the pseudo-Hermiticity of the model, to an alternative approach that utilises surface terms to achieve compatibility for the non-Hermitian system, we find that the explicit forms of the Goldstone boson fields are different., Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures

We propose a perturbative approach to determine the time-dependent Dyson map and the metric operator associated with time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. We apply the method to a pair of explicitly time-dependent two dimensional harmonic oscillators that are weakly coupled to each other in a PT-symmetric fashion and to the strongly coupled explicitly time-dependent negative quartic anharmonic oscillator potential. We demonstrate that once the perturbative Ansatz is set up the coupled differential equations resulting order by order may be solved recursively in a constructive manner, thus bypassing the need for making any guess for the Dyson map or the metric operator. Exploring the ambiguities in the solutions of the order by order differential equations naturally leads to a whole set of inequivalent solutions for the Dyson maps and metric operators implying different physical behaviour as demonstrated for the expectation values of the time-dependent energy operator., Comment: 24 pages, 2 figures

Following a generic approach that leads to Bogomolny-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) soliton solutions by imposing self-duality, we investigate three different types of non-Hermitian field theories. We consider a complex version of a logarithmic potential that possess BPS super-exponential kink and antikink solutions and two different types of complex generalisations of systems of coupled sine-Gordon models with kink and antikink solution of complex versions of arctan type. Despite the fact that all soliton solutions obtainedin this manner are complex in the non-Hermitian theories we show that they possess real energies. For the complex extended sine-Gordon model we establish explicitly that the energies are the same as those in an equivalent pair of a non-Hermitian and Hermitian theory obtained from a pseudo-Hermitian approach by means of a Dyson map. We argue that the reality of the energy is due to the topological properties of the complex BPS solutions. These properties result in general from modified versions of antilinear CPT symmetries that relate self-dual and an anti-self-dual theories., Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures

We study the interplay between spontaneously breaking global continuous and discrete antilinear symmetries in a newly proposed general class of non-Hermitian quantum field theories containing a mixture of complex and real scalar fields. We analyse the model for different types of global symmetry preserving and breaking vacua. In addition, the models are symmetric under various types of discrete antilinear symmetries composed out of nonstandard simultaneous charge conjugations, time-reversals and parity transformations; CPT. While the global symmetry governs the existence of massless Goldstone bosons, the discrete one controls the precise expression of the Goldstone bosons in terms of the original fields in the model and its physical regimes. We show that even when the CPT-symmetries are broken on the level of the action expanded around different types of vacua, the mass spectra might still be real when the symmetry is preserved at the tree approximation and the breaking only occurs at higher order. We discuss the parameter space of some of the models in the proposed class and identify physical regimes in which massless Goldstone bosons emerge when the vacuum spontaneously breaks the global symmetry or equivalently when the corresponding Noether currents are conserved. The physical regions are bounded by exceptional points in different ways. There exist special points in parameter space for which massless bosons may occur already before breaking the global symmetry. However, when the global symmetry is broken at these points they can no longer be distinguished from genuine Goldstone bosons., Comment: 25 pages, 3 figures

We construct all higher order conserved charges from a general two-dimensional zero curvature condition using a Gardner transformation. Employing two of those charges in the definition of a Hamiltonian allows to view the Hirota equations as an integrable $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric extension of the nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equation. We construct new degenerate multi-soliton solutions from Hirota's direct method as well as Darboux-Crum transformations based on Jordan states. We study the properties of these solutions, computing their asymptotic time-dependent displacements and also show that their scattering process has a distinct characteristic behaviour different from the nondegenerate counterparts allowing only for interactions of absorb-emit type., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

We find a new effect for the behaviour of Von Neumann entropy. For this we derive the framework for describing Von Neumann entropy in non-Hermitian quantum systems and then apply it to a simple interacting PT symmetric bosonic system. We show that our model is well defined even in the PT broken regime with the introduction of a time-dependent metric and that it displays three distinct behaviours relating to the PT symmetry of the original time-independent Hamiltonian. When the symmetry is unbroken, the entropy undergoes rapid decay to zero (so-called "sudden death") with a subsequent revival. At the exceptional point it decays asymptotically to zero and when the symmetry is spontaneously broken it decays asymptotically to a finite constant value ("eternal life")., 8 pages, 3 figures

Quantum and noncommutative corrections to the Newtonian law of inertia are considered in the general setting of Verlinde's entropic force postulate. We demonstrate that the form for the modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) emerges in a classical setting by seeking appropriate corrections in the entropy.We estimate the correction term by using concrete coherent states in the standard and generalized versions of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Using Jackiw's direct and analytic method we compute the explicit wavefunctions for these states producing minimal length as well as minimal products. Subsequently we derive a further selection criterion restricting the free parameters in the model in providing a canonical formulation of the quantum corrected Newtonian law by setting up the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian for the system., Comment: 15 pages

We construct a time-dependent double well potential as an exact spectral equivalent to the explicitly time-dependent negative quartic oscillator with a time-dependent mass term. Defining the unstable anharmonic oscillator Hamiltonian on a contour in the lower-half complex plane, the resulting time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is first mapped by an exact solution of the time-dependent Dyson equation to a time-dependent Hermitian Hamiltonian defined on the real axis. When unitary transformed, scaled and Fourier transformed we obtain a time-dependent double well potential bounded from below. All transformations are carried out non-perturbatively so that all Hamiltonians in this process are spectrally exactly equivalent in the sense that they have identical instantaneous energy eigenvalue spectra., Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure

We propose time-dependent Darboux (supersymmetric) transformations that provide a scheme for the calculation of explicitly time-dependent solvable non-Hermitian partner Hamiltonians. Together with two Hermitian Hamilitonians the latter form a quadruple of Hamiltonians that are related by two time-dependent Dyson equations and two intertwining relations in form of a commutative diagram. Our construction is extended to the entire hierarchy of Hamiltonians obtained from time dependent Darboux-Crum transformations. As an alternative approach we also discuss the intertwining relations for Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants for Hermitian as well as non-Hermitian Hamiltonians that reduce the time-dependent equations to auxiliary eigenvalue equations. The working of our proposals is discussed for a hierarchy of explicitly time-dependent rational, hyperbolic, Airy function and nonlocal potentials., 22 pages, 4 figures

We investigate a class of Kac-Moody algebras previously not considered. We refer to them as n-extended Lorentzian Kac-Moody algebras defined by their Dynkin diagrams through the connection of an $A_n$ Dynkin diagram to the node corresponding to the affine root. The cases $n=1$ and $n=2$ correspond to the well studied over and very extended Kac-Moody algebras, respectively, of which the particular examples of $E_{10}$ and $E_{11}$ play a prominent role in string and M-theory. We construct closed generic expressions for their associated roots, fundamental weights and Weyl vectors. We use these quantities to calculate specific constants from which the nodes can be determined that when deleted decompose the n-extended Lorentzian Kac-Moody algebras into simple Lie algebras and Lorentzian Kac-Moody algebra. The signature of these constants also serves to establish whether the algebras possess $SO(1,2)$ and/or $SO(3)$-principal subalgebras., Comment: 20 pages, 1 figure

We explore the possibility of modifying the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants developed originally to find exact solutions for time-dependent quantum mechanical systems for the situation in which an exact invariant can be constructed, but the subsequently resulting time-independent eigenvalue system is not solvable exactly. We propose to carry out this step in an approximate fashion, such as employing standard time-independent perturbation theory or the WKB approximation, and subsequently feeding the resulting approximated expressions back into the time-dependent scheme. We illustrate the quality of this approach by contrasting an exactly solvable solution to one obtained with a perturbatively carried out second step for two types of explicitly time-dependent optical potentials., Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, we added a section using the WKB approximation

We exploit the gauge equivalence between the Hirota equation and the extended continuous Heisenberg equation to investigate how nonlocality properties of one system are inherited by the other. We provide closed generic expressions for nonlocal multi-soliton solutions for both systems. By demonstrating that a specific auto-gauge transformation for the extended continuous Heisenberg equation becomes equivalent to a Darboux transformation, we use the latter to construct the nonlocal multi-soliton solutions from which the corresponding nonlocal solutions to the Hirota equation can be computed directly. We discuss properties and solutions of a nonlocal version of the nonlocal extended Landau-Lifschitz equation obtained from the nonlocal extended continuous Heisenberg equation or directly from the nonlocal solutions of the Hirota equation., Comment: 22 pages, 4 figures

For a large class of time-dependent non-Hermitain Hamiltonians expressed in terms linear and bilinear combinations of the generators for an Euclidean Lie-algebra respecting different types of PT-symmetries, we find explicit solutions to the time-dependent Dyson equation. A specific Hermitian model with explicit time-dependence is analyzed further and shown to be quasi-exactly solvable. Technically we constructed the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants making useof the metric picture, which is an equivalent alternative to the Schr\"{o}dinger, Heisenberg and interaction picture containing the time-dependence in the metric operator that relates the time-dependent Hermitian Hamiltonian to a static non-Hermitian Hamiltonian., Comment: 14 pages

It was at the dawn of the historical developments of quantum mechanics when Schrodinger, Kennard and Darwin proposed an interesting type of Gaussian wave packets, which do not spread out while evolving in time. Originally, these wave packets are the prototypes of the renowned discovery, which are familiar as “coherent states” today. Coherent states are inevitable in the study of almost all areas of modern science, and the rate of progress of the subject is astonishing nowadays. Nonclassical states constitute one of the distinguished branches of coherent states having applications in various subjects including quantum information processing, quantum optics, quantum superselection principles and mathematical physics. On the other hand, the compelling advancements of non-Hermitian systems and related areas have been appealing, which became popular with the seminal paper by Bender and Boettcher in 1998. The subject of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems possessing real eigenvalues are exploding day by day and combining with almost all other subjects rapidly, in particular, in the areas of quantum optics, lasers and condensed matter systems, where one finds ample successful experiments for the proposed theory. For this reason, the study of coherent states for non-Hermitian systems have been very important. In this article, we review the recent developments of coherent and nonclassical states for such systems and discuss their applications and usefulness in different contexts of physics. In addition, since the systems considered here originated from the broader context of the study of minimal uncertainty relations, our review is also of interest to the mathematical physics community.

We provide exact analytical solutions for a two dimensional explicitly time-dependent non-Hermitian quantum system. While the time-independent variant of the model studied is in the broken PT-symmetric phase for the entire range of the model parameters, and has therefore a partially complex energy eigenspectrum, its time-dependent version has real energy expectation values at all times. In our solution procedure we compare the two equivalent approaches of directly solving the time-dependent Dyson equation with one employing the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants. We conclude that the latter approach simplifies the solution procedure due to the fact that the invariants of the non-Hermitian and Hermitian system are related to each other in a pseudo-Hermitian fashion, which in turn does not hold for their corresponding time-dependent Hamiltonians. Thus constructing invariants and subsequently using the pseudo-Hermiticity relation between them allows to compute the Dyson map and to solve the Dyson equation indirectly. In this way one can bypass to solve nonlinear differential equations, such as the dissipative Ermakov-Pinney equation emerging in our and many other systems., Comment: 12 pages

We elaborate further on the metric representation that is obtained by transferring the time-dependence from a Hermitian Hamiltonian to the metric operator in a related non-Hermitian system. We provide further insight into the procedure on how to employ the time-dependent Dyson relation and the quasi-Hermiticity relation to solve time-dependent Hermitian Hamiltonian systems. By solving both equations separately we argue here that it is in general easier to solve the former. We solve the mutually related time-dependent Schroedinger equation for a Hermitian and non-Hermitian spin 1/2, 1 and 3/2 model with time-independent and time-dependent metric, respectively. In all models the overdetermined coupled system of equations for the Dyson map can be decoupled algebraic manipulations and reduces to simple linear differential equations and an equation that can be converted into the nonlinear Ermakov-Pinney equation., Comment: 13 pages

We demonstrate that non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems with spontaneously broken PT-symmetry and partially complex eigenvalue spectrum can be made meaningful in a quantum mechanical sense when introducing some explicit time-dependence into their parameters. Exploiting the fact that explicitly time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamitonians are unobservable and not identical to the energy operators in such a scenario, we show that their corresponding non-Hermitian energy operators develop a different type of PT-symmetry from the Hamiltonians that ensures the reality of their energy spectra. For this purpose we analytically solve the fully time-dependent Dyson equation with all quantities involved being explicitly time-dependent giving rise to a time-dependent metric. The key auxiliary equation to be solved for the two level atomic system considered here is the nonlinear Ermakov-Pinney equation with time-dependent coefficients., 12 pages, 2 figures

In a setting of noncommutative space with minimal length we confirm the general assertion that the more nonclassical an input state for a beam splitter is, the more entangled its output state becomes. By analysing various nonclassical properties we find that the odd Schr\"odinger cat states are more nonclassical than the even Schr\"odinger cat states, hence producing more entanglement, which in turn are more nonclassical than coherent states. Both the nonclassicality and the entanglement can be enhanced by increasing the noncommutativity of the underlying space. In addition we find as a by-product some rare explicit minimum uncertainty quadrature and number squeezed states, i.e. ideal squeezed states., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures

We construct various types of degenerate multi-soliton and multi-breather solutions for the sine-Gordon equation based on B\"{a}cklund transformations, Darboux-Crum transformations and Hirota's direct method. We compare the different solution procedures and study the properties of the solutions. Many of them exhibit a compound like behaviour on a small timescale, but their individual one-soliton constituents separate for large time. Exceptions are degenerate cnoidal kink solutions that we construct via inverse scattering from shifted Lam\'{e} potentials. These type of solutions have constant speed and do not display any time-delay. We analyse the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions and compute explicit analytic expressions for time-dependent displacements between the individual one-soliton constituents for any number of degeneracies. When expressed in terms of the soliton speed and spectral parameter the expression found is of the same generic form as the one formerly found for the Korteweg de-Vries equation., Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures (appendix and figure added)

We construct several new integrable systems corresponding to nonlocal versions of the Hirota equation, which is a particular example of higher order nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equations. The integrability of the new models is established by providing their explicit forms of Lax pairs or zero curvature conditions. The two compatibility equations arising in this construction are found to be related to each other either by a parity transformation $\mathcal{P}$, by a time reversal $\mathcal{T}$ or a $\mathcal{PT}$-transformation possibly combined with a conjugation. We construct explicit multi-soliton solutions for these models by employing Hirota's direct method as well as Darboux-Crum transformations. The nonlocal nature of these models allows for a modification of these solution procedures as the new systems also possess new types of solutions with different parameter dependence and different qualitative behaviour. The multi-soliton solutions are of varied type, being for instance nonlocal in space, nonlocal in time of time crystal type, regular with local structures either in time/space or of rogues wave type., Comment: 23 pages, 7 figures

We consider the special type of pseudo-bosonic systems that can be mapped to standard bosons by means of generalized Bogoliubov transformation and demonstrate that a pseudo-Hermitian systems can be obtained from them by means of a second subsequent Bogoliubov transformation. We employ these operators in a simple model and study three different types of scenarios for the constraints on the model parameters giving rise to a Hermitian system, a pseudo-Hermitian system in which the second the Bogoliubov transformations is equivalent to the associated Dyson map and one in which we obtain D-quasi bases., Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure

Using Hirota's direct method and Baecklund transformations we construct explicit complex one and two-solutions to the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation, the complex modified Korteweg-de Vries equation and the complex sine-Gordon equation. The one-soliton solutions of trigonometric and elliptic type turn out to be PT-symmetric when a constant of integration is chosen to be purely imaginary with one special choice corresponding to solutions recently found by Khare and Saxena. We show that alternatively complex PT-symmetric solutions to the Korteweg-de Vries equation may also be constructed alternatively from real solutions to the modified Korteweg-de Vries by means of Miura transformations. The multi-soliton solutions obtained from Hirota's method break the PT-symmetric, whereas those obtained from Baecklund transformations are PT-invariant under certain conditions. Despite the fact that some of the Hamiltonian densities are non-Hermitian, the total energy is found to be positive in all cases, that is irrespective of whether they are PT-symmetric or not. The reason is that the symmetry can be restored by suitable shifts in space-time and the fact that any of our N-soliton solutions may be decomposed into N separate PT-symmetrizable one-soliton solutions., 16 pages, 7 figures

We report complex PT-symmetric multi-soliton solutions to the Korteweg de-Vries equation that asymptotically contain one-soliton solutions, with each of them possessing the same amount of finite real energy. We demonstrate how these solutions originate from degenerate energy solutions of the Schroedinger equation. Technically this is achieved by the application of Darboux-Crum transformations involving Jordan states with suitable regularizing shifts. Alternatively they may be constructed from a limiting process within the context Hirota's direct method or on a nonlinear superposition obtained from multiple Baecklund transformations. The proposed procedure is completely generic and also applicable to other types of nonlinear integrable systems., 15 pages, 4 figures

It has been argued that it is incompatible to maintain unitary time-evolution for time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians when the metric operator is explicitly time-dependent. We demonstrate here that the time-dependent Dyson equation and the time-dependent quasi-Hermiticity relation can be solved consistently in such a scenario for a time-dependent Dyson map and time-dependent metric operator, respectively. These solutions are obtained at the cost of rendering the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian to be a non-observable operator as it ceases to be quasi-Hermitian when the metric becomes time-dependent., 10 pages

We discuss integrable extensions of real nonlinear wave equations with multi-soliton solutions, to their bicomplex, quaternionic, coquaternionic and octonionic versions. In particular, we investigate these variants for the local and nonlocal Korteweg-de Vries equation and elaborate on how multi-soliton solutions with various types of novel qualitative behaviour can be constructed. Corresponding to the different multicomplex units in these extensions, real, hyperbolic or imaginary, the wave equations and their solutions exhibit multiple versions of antilinear or $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetries. Utilizing these symmetries forces certain components of the conserved quantities to vanish, so that one may enforce them to be real. We find that symmetrizing the noncommutative equations is equivalent to imposing a $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry for a newly defined imaginary unit from combinations of imaginary and hyperbolic units in the canonical representation., Comment: 20 pages, 3 figures

We provide a construction procedure for complex root spaces invariant under antilinear transformations, which may be applied to any Coxeter group. The procedure is based on the factorisation of a chosen element of the Coxeter group into two factors. Each of the factors constitutes an involution and may therefore be deformed in an antilinear fashion. Having the importance of the E8-Coxeter group in mind, such as underlying a particular perturbation of the Ising model and the fact that for it no solution could be found previously, we exemplify the procedure for this particular case. As a concrete application of this construction we propose new generalisations of Calogero-Moser-Sutherland models and affine Toda field theories based on the invariant complex root spaces and deformed complex simple roots, respectively.

Deformations of the canonical commutation relations lead to non-Hermitian momentum and position operators and therefore almost inevitably to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. We demonstrate that such type of deformed quantum mechanical systems may be treated in a similar framework as quasi/pseudo and/or PT-symmetric systems, which have recently attracted much attention. We review some recent results on how $$ \mathcal{P}\mathcal{T} $$ symmetry, that is a simultaneous time-reversal and parity transformation, can be used to construct new integrable models. Some complex valued multi-particle systems, such as deformations of the Calogero-Moser-Sutherland models, are shown to arise naturally from real valued field equations of nonlinear integrable systems. Deformations of complex non-linear integrable field equations, some of them even allowing for compacton solutions, are also investigated. The integrabilty of various systems is established by means of the Painleve test.

A new non-Hermitian E2-quasi-exactly solvable model is constructed containing two previously known models of this type as limits in one of its three parameters. We identify the optimal finite approximation to the double scaling limit to the complex Mathieu Hamiltonian. A detailed analysis of the vicinity of the exceptional points in the parameter space is provided by discussing the branch cut structures responsible for the chirality when exceptional points are surrounded and the structure of the corresponding energy eigenvalue loops stretching over several Riemann sheets. We compute the Stieltjes measure and momentum functionals for the coefficient functions that are univariate weakly orthogonal polynomials in the energy obeying three-term recurrence relations.

We compute lateral displacements and time-delays for a scattering processes of complex multi-soliton solutions of the Korteweg de-Vries equation.The resulting expressions are employed to explain the precise distinction between solutions obtained from different techniques, Hirota's direct method and a superposition principle based on Baecklund transformations. Moreover they explain the internal structures of degenerate compound multi-solitons previously constructed. Their individual one-soliton constituents are time-delayed when scattered amongst each other. We present generic formulae for these time-dependent displacements. By recalling Gardner's transformation method for conserved charges, we argue that the structure of the asymptotic behaviour resulting from the integrability of the model together with its PT-symmetry ensure the reality of all of these charges, including in particular the mass, the momentum and the energy., Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures

We propose a procedure to obtain exact analytical solutions to the time-dependent Schr\"{o}dinger equations involving explicit time-dependent Hermitian Hamitonians from solutions to time-independent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems and the time-dependent Dyson relation together with the time-dependent quasi-Hermiticity relation. We illustrate the working of this method for a simple Hermitian Rabi-type model by relating it to a non-Hermitian time-independent system corresponding to the one-site lattice Yang-Lee model., Comment: 5 pages

We demonstrate that not all generalized Bogoliubov transformations lead to D -pseudo-bosons and prove that a correspondence between the two can only be achieved with the imposition of specific constraints on the parameters defining the transformation. For certain values of the parameters, we find that the norms of the vectors in sets of eigenvectors of two related apparently non-selfadjoint number-like operators possess different types of asymptotic behavior. We use this result to deduce further that they constitute bases for a Hilbert space, albeit neither of them can form a Riesz base. When the constraints are relaxed, they cease to be Hilbert space bases but remain D -quasibases.

We generalize the Milne quantization condition to non-Hermitian systems. In the general case the underlying nonlinear Ermakov-Milne-Pinney equation needs to be replaced by a nonlinear integral differential equation. However, when the system is PT-symmetric or/and quasi/pseudo-Hermitian the equations simplify and one may employ the original energy integral to determine its quantization. We illustrate the working of the general framework with the Swanson model and two explicit examples for pairs of supersymmetric Hamiltonians. We construct a previously unknown $E_2$-quasi-exactly solvable non-Hermitian model whose eigenfunctions involve weakly orthogonal polynomials obeying three-term recurrence relations that factorize beyond the quantization level. The model becomes Hermitian when one of its two parameters is fixed to a specific value. We analyze the double scaling limit of this model leading to the complex Mathieu equation.
