Изучен популяционный состав иммуноцитов слюны на основе авторского метода цитофлуорометрического анализа клеток, экспрессирующих линейный дифференцировочный рецептор CD45+. Показаны принципиальная возможность применения данного метода для оценки мукозального иммунитета. Результаты цитофлуориметрического анализа состава иммуноцитов слюны предлагается использовать в качестве нормативных при изучении мукозального иммунитета у молодых лиц. Direct sagittal computed tomography (CT) and metrizamide myelography, in addition to standard axial CT, have proven most useful in evaluation of complex anomalies of the infant spine. Direct sagittal CT was performed by placing the entire infant sideways and supine within the gantry after metrizamide was injected. This technique was performed in six infants with diagnoses of lipoma with dysraphism, lipomyelomeningocele, lipomyelocystocele, lumbosacral agenesis with cord regression, capillary hemangioma, and vertebral osteomyelitis. The technique showed the relation and/or extension of lesions in the dorsal ventral plane, particularly the presence or absence of subarachnoid, enteric, or genitourinary communication. Spinal and paraspinal anatomic detail was also demonstrated beautifully.

Mean plasma LH concentration in postmenopausal women suffering unipolar depressive illness was 33% less than that of normal postmenopausal women (P less than 0.05). Since LH secretion after menopause is probably noradrenergically regulated, the finding provides support for the hypothesis of a functional noradrenaline deficit in depression.

1 Plasma prolactin (Prl) can serve as an indicator of hypothalamic tuberoinfundibular dopamine (TIDA) activity in humans. 2 All major classes of neuroleptic (NL) or antipsychotic (AP) drugs were studied in humans. Clinically efficaceous drugs consistently stimulate Prl while other psychotropic drugs do not. 3 The Prl response is graded according to dose (within a limited range) and correlates highly with clinical potency. 4 The Prl test should be useful in evaluating potentially efficaceous AD drugs in man. 5 Normal and schizophrenic subjects do not differ in their Prl responses suggesting that the TIDA system is not involved in schizophrenia.

Evidence suggests that ingestion of selenium compounds may inhibit carcinogenesis. We studied this in hamsters in which squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue was induced with 0.5% dimethylbenzanthracene (DMBA). Forty-five hamsters, divided into three groups of 15 each, were fed a low-selenium diet and the left lateral border of the tongue was painted with DMBA three times a week. Control animals were given deionized water, while water for animals in groups 1 and 2 contained 3 and 6 ppm selenium, respectively. All sufficiently long-lived animals developed leukoplakia of the tongue and floor of the mouth that progressed to dysplasia and papillary or ulcerative carcinoma. Carcinomas were seen less frequently on the palate and in the pyriform sinuses. Carcinoma metastasized to neck lymph nodes in two hamsters. Data indicate a 2-week delay in leukoplakia incidence for the selenium groups; a higher survival rate was also noted, although this was not statistically significant. We conclude that this model is similar to tobacco-induced squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract in humans and that ingestion of supplemental selenium produces a modest inhibitory effect on leukoplakia.
