Background: Nontrumatic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is one of the results of hypertension. The treatment is surgery for some patients; but the best type of surgery is controversial. This study aimed to compare an endoscopy-guided method with open craniotomy removal of nontrumatic intracerebral hemorrhage. Methods: In this clinical trial study, patients with nontrumatic intracerebral hemorrhage referred to Kashani Hospital in Isfahan from June 2009 till June 2010 were assessed. One group (15 patients) underwent open craniotomy surgery and the other (15 patients) underwent endoscopy-guided surgery. Finding: The mean length of stay in hospital (9.2 ± 9.4 vs. 20.5 ± 14.6 days), the mean length of surgery (1.6 ± 51.6 vs. 2.2 ± 36.5 hours), and incidence of systemic infection (6.6% vs. 60%) was statistically lower in endoscopy-guided surgery group. Also, hematoma was deranged better in this group (after surgery intracerebral hemorrhage volume of 4.7 ± 3.9 vs. 10.8 ± 10.5 cc) and after surgery GCS (11.8 ± 7.5 vs. 8.2 ± 3.2) was higher in them compared to open craniotomy surgery group. Conclusion: Endoscopy-guided method removal of nontrumatic intracerebral hemorrhage is a more effective surgery method compare to open craniotomy surgery.

A new coralligenous morphotype named ‘atolls’ was discovered in 2011 in northern Cap Corse (Western Mediterranean Sea). With the aim of inventorying and characterizing these structures, and to attempt to shed light on their origins, two oceanographic campaigns (using e.g. side scan sonar, multibeam echosounder, sparker, ROV and submarine with 3D photogrammetry) were carried out in 2013 and 2014, in this sector, and in the south of the island in search of similar structures. Off Cap Corse, nearly one thousand atolls were identified between 105 and 130 m depth; the majority of them are situated between 110 and 125 m depth. These atolls are generally grouped (several tens to several hundred) and are to be found in two main sectors, situated between 22 and 31 km from the coast. They occur on subhorizontal bottoms, in rocky depressions occupied by coastal detritic bottom, and are 1 to 2 m thick. The average size of these atolls ranges from 20 to 25 m in diameter, but a few smaller or more extensive structures have been identified. The height of the central core ranges from 0.5 to 3.0 m, the intermediate zone, which surrounds this core, presents a width of about 10 m, and the exterior crown has a width of 1 to 5 m. No atoll was found along the south coast although the topography is similar (bathymetric patterns, presence of a seamount). Several typologies have been evidenced; these typologies could correspond to atolls at different stages of evolution in relation to phenomena of bioerosion or bioconstruction. Furthermore, the occurrence of ‘fossil coralligenous’ formations, between 138 and 140 m depth, with still living rhodoliths at the summit, might support the hypothesis of a biological origin, with the original formation occurring during a period when the sea level was lower, several thousand years ago.

International audience; Stem cells are the most powerful candidate for the treatment of various diseases. Suitable stem cell source should be harvested with minimal invasive procedure, found in great quantity, and transplanted with no risk of immune response and tumor formation. Fetal derived stem cells have been introduced as an excellent alternative to adult and embryonic stem cells use, but unfortunately, their degree of "stemness" and molecular characterization is still unclear. Several studies have been performed deciphering whether fetal stem cells meet the needs of regenerative medicine. We believe that a transcriptomic screening of Wharton's jelly stem cells will bring insights on cell population features.

International audience; The fracture energy of wood and root burl wood of thuya, coming from the forest of Essaouira (Morocco), was measured using a single edge notched specimen bending (SENB) test method. The variations along the longitudinal and transverse directions were studied using specimens taken from one radial section of thuya wood and on radial section of thuya burl, originating from two different trees. Thuya burl was more resistant than thuya wood to crack propagation in RL system (in the tangential plane). This difference is explained by the presence of dark growths, composed of cells with thicker walls that make the burl wood usually denser than thuya wood. Thuya burl was more resistant to crack propagation in RL system (tangential plane) than in TL system (radial plane), which is consistent with the radial orientation of the dark growths. The observed decrease of fracture energy along the longitudinal direction was explained by the progressive reduction of dark growth concentration.

Background: Tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis), remains as one of the leading causes of deaths worldwide, with nearly two million death cases annually. BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guerin) continues to be the most widely used vaccine in the world, but the protective immunity differs in different parts of the world. Accordingly, new strategies including DNA vaccines are essentially needed. This study was aimed to design and construct a cloning vector containing mpt64 gene of M. tuberculosis. Materials and Methods: M. tuberculosis H37Rv was cultured on Lowenstein Jensen medium, and genomic DNA was extracted. The mpt64 gene was amplified by PCR using designed specific primers. After the digestion of mpt64 and pcDNA3.1 (+) by BamHI and EcoRI restriction enzymes, the mpt64 fragment was ligated into the digested vector using T4 DNA ligase enzyme. Then, the recombinant vector was transformed into competent Escherichia coli (E. coli) TOP10 strain. To confirm the colonies of transformed bacteria, antibiotic resistance, colony-PCR, restriction enzyme digestion and DNA sequencing were used. Results: To confirm the clones, colony-PCR using mpt64 specific primers was performed and the fragment of 718 bp was observed by gel electrophoresis. Clones were also verified by restriction enzyme digestion using BamHI and EcoRI restriction enzymes and the 718 bp fragment was observed. Furthermore, results of DNA sequencing showed 100% homology with the mpt64 fragment of H37Rv in GenBank. Conclusion: In this study, the mpt64 fragment was successfully cloned in pcDNA3.1 (+) vector. This construct can be used in future studies as a DNA vaccine in animal models to induce immune system responses.
