Introduction with the technological advance in dentistry, light-polymerized three-dimensional (3D) printing resins had become an alternative for the manufacture of occlusal splint splints. Objective the present study aimed to analyze the flexural strength of a resin for 3D printing compared to conventional acrylic resins (chemically activated and thermally activated), under the influence of thermocycling. Material and method 60 specimens were made, which were distributed in six experimental groups (n = 10), according to the resin employed (chemically activated acrylic resin, thermally activated acrylic resin and 3D printing resin) and the treatment received (control and thermocycling). This study evaluated the effect of fiber post customization and laser application on the results of pull-out tests in endodontically treated teeth. Forty-eight bovine incisors were stored in aqueous 2% formaldehyde (pH 7.0) for 30 days. At the end of the storage period, the incisors were scraped with No. 11/12 periodontal curettes, rinsed with water and sodium bicarbonate, and stored in 0.9% saline solution for 7 days. Roots with similar shape and dimensions were selected and sectioned to a standard 17-mm length. Root canals were prepared and filled to a depth of 12 mm. The roots were divided into 4 groups (n = 12): 1, conventional fiber post and no laser application; 2, customized fiber post and no laser application; 3, conventional fiber post and laser application; and 4, customized fiber post and laser application. After removal of the obturation material for post space preparation, the canals were enlarged, and a laser beam was applied to the roots of teeth in groups 3 and 4 as an auxiliary disinfection procedure. After cementation of the posts, a pull-out test was performed using an axial tensile load at 0.5 mm/min in a universal testing machine. Analysis of variance and the Tukey test were used for statistical analysis of the results. The mean (SD) maximum tensile force was 10.18 (4.73) kgf in group 1, 38.89 (6.49) kgf in group 2, 27.74 (10.07) kgf in group 3, and 38.92 (6.89) kgf in group 4. These values were significantly higher in groups 2 and 4 than in group 1 (P0.05). The customization of fiber posts used for the restoration of pulpless teeth resulted in significantly (P0.05) greater pull-out test values, a thinner cement layer, and improved retention.

Na sequência foi realizada avaliação clínica e radiográfica das próteses. Os dados obtidos foram tabulados para análise descritiva dos fatores avaliados com cálculo de frequência absoluta e percentual, e teste de Qui-quadrado e Fischer.Resultados: Foram encontradas 9,67% de falhas, sendo a mais comum a descimentação (soltura da prótese) (57,14%), seguida da fratura da cerâmica (28,57%), e um caso de fratura no dente pilar (14,29%). As falhas biológicas foram observadas em 30,65%. A falha mais comum foi a recessão gengival (52,00%), seguida por bolsa periodontal (24,00%), envolvimento periodonto de suporte (16,00%), e recidiva de cárie (4,00%). No exame radiográfico 70,97% do número total avaliado apresentaram algum tipo de falha. Houve associação estatisticamente significante entre grau de satisfação e falhas mecânicas (p=0,04).Conclusão: Os pacientes ficaram satisfeitos após um período de acompanhamento de 1 ano. As principais falhas detectadas foram: falha de cimentação da coroa e fratura da cerâmica; Recessão gengival, bolsa periodontal; confecção e cimentação de pino intraradicular curto, pino com diâmetro aumentado e desajuste cervical da coroa. ABSTRACTObjective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the satisfaction of patients rehabilitated with fixed partial denture and the incidence of failures/clinical complications of prostheses after one year.Methods: The patients answered a questionnaire about the satisfaction degree with dental treatment performed and care maintenance for prosthesis conservation. Clinical and radiographic evaluations of the prosthesis were performed. Data were tabulated for descriptive analysis of the factors assessed, with calculation of absolute frequencies and percentages, and chi-square and Fisher’s exact test..Results: A total of 9.67% failures were found. The most common was the prosthesis loosening (57.14%), followed by ceramic fracture (28.57%), and abutment tooth fracture (14.29%). Biological failures were observed in 30.65%. The most common failure was gingival recession (52.00%), periodontal pocket (24.00%), support periodontal involvement (16.00%), and recurrent caries (4.00%). Radiographic examination showed that 70.97% of the total number evaluated had some kind of failure. There was statistically significant association between satisfaction degree and technical failure (p=0.04).Conclusion: Patients were satisfied after observation period of 1 year. The main failures detected were: crown cementation failure and ceramic fracture; gingival recession, periodontal pocket; manufacture and cementation of short intraradicular post with increased diameter and crown cervical misfit. Introdução: Dentre as dores orofaciais, a disfunção da articulação temporomandibular (DTM) apresenta alta prevalência na população mundial. A dor é a principal queixa, e o acometimento mais comum para a busca de tratamento. Sintomas como fadiga muscular, dificuldade de abertura, zumbido entre outros, podem estar associados a outras comorbidades como o distúrbio de sono e cefaléia. Não raro, as queixas psicológicas como ansiedade e depressão podem ainda atuar como fatores iniciantes, perpetuantes ou predisponentes do quadro. O diagnóstico e plano de tratamento está apoiado na anamnese cuidadosa buscando descrever detalhadamente os sintomas, duração, tipo, ou seja, todas as informações possíveis sobre o desenvolvimento e manifestação da DTM. O exame físico deve incluir a palpação dos músculos mastigatórios, avaliação dos movimentos mandibulares e região da articulação temporomandibular. Exames de imagens como radiografias panorâmica e seriada da ATM, tomografia e ressonância magnética completam o arsenal para avaliação das estruturas envolvidas. Objetivo: descrever a resolução do caso clínico de um paciente que apresenta DTM detalhando os fundamentos do diagnóstico e estabelecimento de um plano de tratamento adequado, em busca de resultados satisfatórios no tratamento proposto para o paciente. Descrição de caso clínico: o diagnóstico do caso clínico em questão foi iniciado pela aplicação da anamnese detalhada utilizando o questionário “RDC” – Critério Diagnóstico para Pesquisa, posteriormente foi realizado o exame físico minucioso e a avaliação das radiografias panorâmica e seriada da ATM. O diagnóstico estabelecido foi de dor miofascial com espalhamento. Após o diagnóstico definitivo de disfunção temporomandibular, foi instituído um tratamento multidisciplinar para a resolução dos sinais e sintomas da paciente, e melhora na sua qualidade de vida. Um adequado diagnóstico e um minucioso planejamento são etapas cruciais para o sucesso em reabilitações protéticas envolvendo pacientes com sinais e sintomas de DTM. A constante busca por um sorriso estético e agradável culminou no desenvolvimento de técnicas minimamente invasivas e de materiais restauradores que mimetizam a estrutura dentária. Associado a essa evolução da Odontologia, o refinamento dos procedimentos de cimentação adesiva permitiu a confecção de peças restauradoras com espessuras muito delgadas. Assim, podemos destacar o emprego das lentes de contato cerâmicas como opção de tratamento para a reabilitação estética na prática clínica por empregar procedimentos ultraconservadores e mimetizar a naturalidade das estruturas dentárias. Além disso, o planejamento reverso permite a previsibilidade do tratamento tanto para a equipe profissional quanto para o paciente. Dessa forma, o artigo tem por objetivo descrever o planejamento e execução clínica em seu passo a passo das lentes de contato cerâmicas, ressaltando o protocolo de confecção dos preparos, moldagem e cimentação das peças cerâmicas à base de dissilicato de lítio. Ao final, foram cimentadas seis lentes de contato cerâmicas no arco superior para o restabelecimento da estética do sorriso da paciente. Concluiu-se que a aplicação do planejamento reverso associado com a utilização de cerâmicas à base de dissilicato de lítio possibilitou a recuperação funcional e estética do sorriso quando se empregou a técnica de preparos minimamente invasivos de lentes de contato cerâmicas.Descritores: Estética Dentária; Porcelana Dentária; Facetas Dentárias.

Introdução: Na reabilitação sobre implantes, a união entre a peça protética e o pilar e/ou diretamente com o implante pode ocorrer por cimentação ou por parafusamento. Contudo, esta escolha pode se tornar desafiadora em determinadas situações e deve ser criteriosamente considerada ainda na etapa de planejamento, previamente a instalação dos implantes, maximizando assim a previsibilidade do resultado final e, consequentemente, o sucesso do tratamento. Objetivo: Apresentar e discutir as informações obtidas na literatura quanto às vantagens, desvantagens, critérios de seleção, indicações e contraindicações dos sistemas de retenção por cimento e por parafuso nas próteses sobre implantes, exemplificando variadas situações clínicas e a aplicabilidade das informações aqui fornecidas; com o intuito de fornecer respaldo ao cirurgião-dentista para uma seleção ideal e segura nos mais diversos casos. Conclusão: Conclui-se que não existe um método soberano ou protocolo fixo na escolha entre prótese cimentada ou parafusada e a predileção do profissional acaba por ser o fator determinante. A etiologia mais provável da disfunção temporomandibular (DTM) é multifatorial. Esse fato torna complexo o seu diagnóstico e tratamento para a área de Odontologia. Um dos componentes importantes na etiologia e perpetuação da DTM, ainda pouco explorado no tratamento dessa síndrome, é o psicológico. Sendo assim, este artigo teve como objetivo apresentar revisão sistematizada da literatura enfocando a integração da DTM e psicologia. Foi realizado um levantamento nas bases de dados Pubmed e Scielo no período de 2010 a 2017 utilizando como critério de inclusão: artigos publicados na língua inglesa ou portuguesa com os descritores psicologia e síndrome da articulação temporomandibular ou psicoterapia e articulação temporomandibular. Foram excluídos os artigos onde o componente psicológico nos casos de DTM foi apenas citado e não avaliado e artigos de revisão de literatura. A busca selecionou 23 artigos, dos quais 17 citavam a psicologia como etiologia, relacionado com a qualidade de vida e somente 4 propuseram terapias psicológicas para o tratamento da DTM, sendo que 1 associou a psicoterapia com o relaxamento. Os resultados obtidos enfatizaram a importância da integração entre as áreas do saber para proporcionar atendimento integral aos portadores desta disfunção. Apesar disso, a literatura disponível abordando terapias psicológicas no tratamento da DTM é escassa justificando a necessidade de estudos nessa área.Descritores: Síndrome da Disfunção da Articulação Temporomandibular, Odontologia, Psicoterapia.

O questionário incluiu perguntas sobre dados demográficos, perguntas para avaliar a estética facial e dentária, a satisfação dental e tratamentos considerando a noção dos pacientes de melhorar a estética dental. Os dados coletados foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva e o teste do qui-quadrado.Resultados O fator dentes para análise facial e o fator posicionamento no arco para análise sorriso foram considerados os temas mais importantes a respeito da estética, de acordo com os entrevistados. 67,5% dos pacientes estavam insatisfeitos com a aparência de seus dentes, a insatisfação com a cor foi o fator mais importante (66,8%). O tratamento mais desejado foi o clareamento dental e 85,0% dos pacientes disse sim a ele.Conclusão Os pacientes dão grande valor aos dentes sobre a aparência rosto, e ele pode ser visto que os tratamentos estéticos são altamente valorizados em todos os grupos etários. Há uma necessidade de tratamentos para restabelecer a função, mas os tratamentos para melhorar a aparência dentária foram os mais solicitados. ABSTRACTObjective The aim of this study was to investigate the subjective aspects related to the perception of dental appearance and expectations of patients who receive dental treatment in graduation clinics of the Araçatuba Dental School.Methods It was evaluated 362 patients of both gender aged over 18. The questionnaire included questions of demographic data, questions to assess facial and dental aesthetics, dental satisfaction and treatments considering patients notion to improve dental esthetics. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and the chi-square test.Results The factor teeth for facial analysis and factor positioning in the arch for smile analysis were considered the most important subjects regarding the esthetic according to the respondents. 67.5% of patients were dissatisfied with the appearance of their teeth, and dissatisfaction with the color was the most important factor (66.8%). The treatment most desired was tooth whitening and 85.0% of patients said yes to it.Conclusion Respondents place great value on the teeth on the face appearance, and it can be seen that aesthetic treatments are highly valued in all age groups. There is a need for treatments to restore the function, but treatments to improve dental appearance were the most requested. Dentes tratados endodonticamente possuem redução da rigidez e resistência devido à perda da integridade estrutural. Este fato pode acarretar em longo prazo falhas biomecânicas, falta de elasticidade e de resistência à tração frente às forças mastigatórias, não sendo incomum que problemas mais graves como fraturas ocorram. Logo, a escolha da reabilitação funcional e estética desse paciente deve ser selecionada com muita cautela, já que a longevidade do tratamento endodôntico pode ser influenciada pela seleção do material restaurador, assim como do preparo protético do remanescente que conserve o máximo de estrutura dentária sadia. Este trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar uma revisão da literatura sobre o tema endocrown e ilustrar sua execução com caso clínico. O caso clínico evidenciou que a técnica endocrownestá indicada para dentes posteriores, principalmente molares, que apresentem coroa clínica curta e espaço interoclusal insuficiente e estar associada às cerâmicas adesivas. Trata-se de um procedimento que visa à preservação da estrutura dental e resultados estéticos harmoniosos, além de executado em menos sessões clínicas. A literatura apoia que em comparação as tradicionais coroas totais, a resistência à fratura apresenta-se superior. Aims and Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the microhardness of three resin cements used in cementing glass fiber posts in bovine incisor. The microhardness was analyzed in cervical, middle and apical thirds before and after thermocycling process. Materials and Methods: Bovine teeth were instrumented and divided into 3 groups composed of 10 teeth each. Then, the teeth were sectioned and obturated and had their canals prepared at a depth of 12mm. Once proceeded the desobturation, the roots and glass fiber posts were prepared for adhesive cementation. After cementation, the microhardness reading was carried out. After initial reading, the samples were placed in a thermocycler and subjected to 2,000 cycles and a new microhardness reading. The data collected were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Turkey’s test. Results: It was observed a statistical difference among the microhardness of resin cements. However, the statistical difference of microhardness before and after thermocycling appeared only in group U-200. Conclusion: Thermocycling reduced microhardness values in all cements evaluated in this study. The autopolymerizing cement Multilink presented the most stable microhardness mean values after thermocycling in the coronal, middle and apical thirds.

The purpose of this systematic review was to compare the survival and complication rates of all-ceramic restorations after a minimum follow-up time of 5 years.A comprehensive search of studies published from 2005 to November 2015 and listed in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases was performed in accordance with the PRISMA statement. Two reviewers independently analyzed the abstracts. Relevant studies were selected according to predetermined inclusion criteria.Twenty-nine studies were selected for the final analysis from an initial yield of 514. Only four studies fulfilled the requirement of having a randomized design, and 25 studies were prospective with a mean follow-up period of 5 to 16 years. Overall, the 5-year complication rates were low. The most frequent complications were secondary caries, endodontic problems, ceramic fractures, ceramic chipping, and loss of retention.This systematic review showed that all-ceramic restorations fabricated using the correct clinical protocol have an adequate clinical survival for at least 5 years of clinical service with very low complication rates. Minor ceramic chipping and debonding did not affect the longevity of the restorations.Long-term clinical performance of all-ceramic restorations manufactured using various ceramic systems provides clinical evidence of complications and long-term management of these restorations. Available evidence indicates the effectiveness of many ceramic systems for numerous clinical applications. Correct planning and a rigorous technical execution protocol increase clinical success. Studies of ceramic prostheses indicate more problems with ceramic failure and debonding.

Background Considering the limited qualitative and quantitative bone in the posterior arch, this modality of prosthetic treatment could provide a positive emotional factor reestablished by immovability of the anterior fixed implant-supported segment. Objective This clinical report demonstrates the possibility of achieving positive results with a removable partial denture connected to an implant-supported fixed prosthesis associated to an extra resilient attachment. Clinical significance In cases of posterior mandibular and maxilla atrophy added to the patients desire against the bone graft, this kind of prosthetic treatment has an important place as an alternative. The purposes of this study were to photoelastically measure the biomechanical behavior of 4 implants retaining different cantilevered bar mandibular overdenture designs and to compare a fixed partial denture (FPD). A photoelastic model of a human edentulous mandible was fabricated, which contained 4 screw-type implants (3.75 × 10 mm) embedded in the parasymphyseal area. An FPD and 3 overdenture designs with the following attachments were evaluated: 3 plastic Hader clips, 1 Hader clip with 2 posterior resilient cap attachments, and 3 ball/O-ring attachments. Vertical occlusal forces of 100 N were applied between the central incisor and unilaterally to the right and left second premolars and second molars. Stresses that developed in the supporting structure were monitored photoelastically and recorded photographically. The results showed that the anterior loading, the overdenture with 3 plastic Hader clips, displayed the largest stress concentration at the medium implant. With premolar loading, the FPD and overdenture with 3 plastic Hader clips displayed the highest stresses to the ipsilateral terminal implant. With molar loading, the overdenture with 3 ball/O-ring attachments displayed the most uniform stress distribution in the posterior edentulous ridge, with less overloading in the terminal implant. It was concluded that vertical forces applied to the bar-clip overdenture and FPD created immediate stress patterns of greater magnitude and concentration on the ipsilateral implants, whereas the ball/O-ring attachments transferred minimal stress to the implants. The increased cantilever in the FPD caused the highest stresses to the terminal implant.

In-Ceram is an alternative when esthetics is primordial as well as resistance required in rehabilitation. However, an ideal smile is associated to not only shape, color, texture and translucency but also harmony with gingival tissue. So, the aim of this study is to report a clinical case based on periodontal and fixed partial dentures principles to perform periodontal plastic surgery followed by esthetic rehabilitation. A female patient, 40-year-old, presented complaint about dental esthetics. After clinical and radiographic exams, metal-ceramics crowns (teeth 11, 12, 13, 21, 22 and 23) were considered unsatisfactory due to marginal leakage, color change in gingival tissue associated to metallic margin, and gummy smile. So, a crown lengthening surgery of anterior teeth was performed followed by rehabilitation of superior teeth with In-Ceram single crowns. Clinical significance: The interaction between periodontics and fixed prosthodontic area is the key of an adequated treatment planning which involves gingival smile to provide function and an esthetic condition in association with an esthetic, resistant and predictable material. Aim The aim of this study is to present a clinical case in which an occlusal matrix device was used in a patient who needed to restore a posterior tooth. Material and methods A direct duplicate occlusal appliance was used (biteperf) in a patient who needed an occlusal restoration in two posterior teeth. Results Using the matrix helps having fast and accurate reproduction of the original anatomical details of the occlusal surface. The final result surprised with the presented restoration in terms of esthetic quality, despite the simplicity of the technique. Conclusion Posterior teeth with initial lesions were confined to the occlusal surface of anatomically complex or fissured anatomy with or without signs of proximal caries wich are ideal candidates for this technique. The overlying enamel surface must be relatively intact; lesions of hidden or occult caries. Clinical significance The aesthetic and time-saving benefits of the occlusal device (biteperf) are immediately clear. The matrix allows the fast and accurate reproduction of the anatomic details of the original occlusal surface of the tooth. The professionals who lack an artistic penchant and marked manual ability will be able to carry out excellent posterior resin composite restorations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the retention strength of frameworks match circumferential clasps and extra resilient attachment cast in three different alloys (cobalt-chromium, nickel-chromium titanium and commercially pure titanium), using two undercut (0.25 and 0.75 mm) and considering different period of time (0, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years). Methods: Using two metallic matrices, representing a partially edentulous mandibular right hemiarch with the first molar crown, canine root and without premolars, 60 frameworks were fabricated. Three groups (n = 20) of each metal were cast and each group was divided into two subgroups (n = 10), corresponding the molar undercut of 0.25 mm and 0.75 mm. The nylon male was positioned at the matrix and attached to the acrylic resin of the prosthetic base. The samples were subjected to an insertion and removal test under artificial saliva environment. Results: The data were analyzed and compared with ANOVAs and Tukey's test at 95% of probability. The groups cast in cobaltchromium and nickel-chromium-titanium had the highest mean retention strength (5.58 N and 6.36 N respectively) without significant difference between them, but statistically different from the group cast in commercially pure titanium, which had the lowest mean retention strength in all the periods (3.46 N). The association frameworks using nickel-chromium-titanium and cobalt-chromium could be used with 0.25 mm and 0.75 mm of undercut, but the titanium samples seems to decrease the retention strength, mainly in the 0.75 mm undercut. The circumferential clasps cast in commercially pure titanium used in 0.75 mm undercuts have a potential risk of fractures, especially after the 2nd year of use. Conclusion: This in vitro study showed that the framework association between cast clasp and an extra resilient attachment are suitable to the three metals evaluated, but strongly suggest extra care with commercially pure titanium in undercut of 0.75 mm. Clinical significance: Frameworks fabricated in Cp Ti tend to decrease in retentive strength over time and have a potential risk of fracture in less than 0.75 mm of undercut. During the process of facial rehabilitation, the mobility of ocular prostheses must be considered. Whereas some factors depend exclusively on the dentist, such as molding techniques and selection of material for denture construction, regarding ocular rehabilitation, factors, such as type of surgery, whether to adopt implants, and the use of lubricants, deserve special attention owing to their integration and their association with other factors pertaining exclusively to the patient. To establish harmony, and with the intention of aiding the dentist, after a discerning evaluation, the authors of this study report the factors that provide greater or less mobility to ocular prostheses and conceal the prosthesis in a more natural way, thereby contributing toward achieving a favorable aesthetic result in rehabilitations.

Purpose: The longevity of an ocular prosthesis is directly related to the resistance to erosion of its material. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of chemical disinfection and the method of investment on the microhardness of ocular prosthesis acrylic resin. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two test specimen investments were obtained in two silicones. A segment was cut in each test specimen, and each specimen was fixed in an acrylic disk. The specimens were then polished and submitted to the first microhardness test before immersion in distilled water and incubation for 2 months. During this 2-month period, the specimens were immersed in a water bath at 37°C and were disinfected daily; half were disinfected with neutral soap and the other half were disinfected with 4% chlorhexidine gluconate. After the storage phase and disinfection, a second microhardness test was performed. The surface microhardness values for the acrylic resins were submitted to ANOVA, followed by the Tukey test. Results: The disinfection and the period of storage did not statistically influence the surface microhardness of the acrylic resin, independent of the method of investment of the specimens (Zetalabor or Vipi Sil). The investment of specimens with Zetalabor silicone presented a greater surface hardness, independent of the type of disinfection and the period of storage. Conclusions: Based on these results, we suggest that the microhardness of the resin evaluated was not influenced by the method of disinfection or the time of storage used and was affected only by the investment material.

METHODS: The prepared medium was changed every 72 h and analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Samples were removed from the prepared medium at 15, 30, 48 and 60 days. RESULTS: The result shows that ions released were statistically different among all groups, and so were both biofilm and pits formation and the corrosion induced by the S. mutans in both types of samples. SEM observation of the samples immersed in the prepared medium with S. mutans showed adherence of microorganisms on the whole surface, in all groups. CONCLUSIONS: The S. mutans adhere to both amalgam and copper/aluminum alloy causing corrosion of those restorations. S. mutans produced a greater ions release in Cu/Al alloy; in amalgam, the ions release was not influenced by exposure to S. mutans. Aim This paper describes a case of a rehabilitation involving Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CADCAM) system in implant supported and dental supported prostheses using zirconia as framework. Background The CAD-CAM technology has developed considerably over last few years, becoming a reality in dental practice. Among the widely used systems are the systems based on zirconia which demonstrate important physical and mechanical properties of high strength, adequate fracture toughness, biocompatibility and esthetics, and are indicated for unitary prosthetic restorations and posterior and anterior framework. Case description All the modeling was performed by using CAD-CAM system and prostheses were cemented using resin cement best suited for each situation. Conclusion The rehabilitation of the maxillary arch using zirconia framework demonstrated satisfactory esthetic and functional results after a 12-month control and revealed no biological and technical complications. Clinical significance This article shows the important of use technology CAD/CAM in the manufacture of dental prosthesis and implant-supported. Este trabalho estruturou um instrumento de avaliação para observar a situação bucal da população acima de 60 anos da cidade de Araçatuba, através do qual, com perguntas quanto ao perfil socioeconômico, situação bucal e utilização dos serviços prestados pela rede municipal de saúde, buscaram-se dados para subsidiar projetos de políticas públicas que contemplem as necessidades levantadas. Os resultados mostraram que mais de 80% dos idosos são desdentados e 77% utilizam próteses dentárias, apesar de a maioria viver da aposentadoria de um salário mínimo, que muitas vezes é a principal fonte de renda familiar, e não ter acesso a serviços específicos de reabilitação na rede pública de saúde. Além disso, a maioria é iletrada. Conclui-se que os idosos de Araçatuba não tiveram e continuam não tendo acesso aos tratamentos preventivos, curativos, reabilitadores e educativos. Based on health public policies for the elderly, established by the Brazilian Health Ministry, this paper analyses the elderly’s oral health program, showing the Brazilian reality, which lacks preventive, curative and educational treatments. This research created an instrument to assess the oral situation of the elderly in Araçatuba city, through questions on the socioeconomic profile, oral situation, and use of services rendered by the municipal health service. We searched for data to subsidize projects of public policies that meet this population’s needs. Results showed that more than 80% of seniors are toothless, 77% use dental prostheses despite the fact that most live on their minimum-wage pensions, which many times are the main family income and have no access to specific public rehabilitation services and are illiterate. We come to the conclusion that the elderly in Araçatuba still do not have access to the preventive, curative, educational and rehabilitation treatments. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability of two silicones for use in facial prostheses, under the influence of chemical disinfection and storage time. Materials and Methods: Twenty-eight specimens were obtained half made from Silastic MDX 4-4210 silicone and the other half from Silastic 732 RTV silicone. The specimens were divided into four groups: Silastic 732 RTV and MDX 4-4210 with disinfection three times a week with Efferdent and Sliastic 732 RTV and MDX 4-4210 disinfected with neutral soap. Color stability was analyzed by spectrophotometry, immediately and 2 months after making the specimens. After obtaining the results, ANOVA and Tukey test with 1% reliability were used for statistical analysis. Results: Statistical differences between mean color values were observed. Disinfection with Efferdent did not statistically influence the mean color values. Conclusion: The factors of storage time and disinfection statistically influenced color stability; disinfection acts as a bleaching agent in silicone materials.

The aim of this study was to evaluate by photoelastic analysis the stress distribution in the cervical and apical site of implant-abutment interface of conventional implant joints (external hex, internal hex and cone morse) and compare to the novel platform switching design. Materials and methods: It was fabricated photoelastic models using five different implant-abutment connection, one set of external hex (Alvim Ti, Neodent, Curitiba, Brazil), one set of internal hex (Full Osseotite, Biomet 3i, Florida, USA), one cone morse set (Alvim CM, Neodent, Curitiba, Brazil), and two sets of internal hex plus platform switching concept (Alvim II Plus, Neodent, Curitiba, Brazil) (Certain Prevail, Biomet 3i, Florida, USA). These models were submitted to two compressive loads, axial from 20 kgf (load I) and another (load II), inclined 45° from 10 kgf. During the qualitative analysis, digital pictures were taken from a polariscope, for each load situation. For the quantitative analyses in both situations of load, the medium, minimum and maximum in MPa values of shear strain were determined in the cervical and apical site. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the results between the different systems and between cervical and apical site were compared using Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The results from qualitative analysis showed less concentration of strain in the cervical area to the internal hex plus platform switching (Certain Prevail), in both situation of load. The same results were get in the quantitative analysis, showing less stress concentrations around the implant Certain Prevail with internal hex plus the novel design (17.9 MPa to load I and 29.5 MPa to load II), however, without statistical significant difference between the systems. Conclusion: The minor stress concentration strongly suggest the use of platform switching design as a manner to prevent bone loss around the implant-abutment platform. Clinical Significance: From the result of this study its possible to make clinical decision for implant system which provides implant components with platform switching characteristics. The purpose of this study was to compare the dental movement that occurs during the processing of maxillary complete dentures with 3 different base thicknesses, using 2 investment methods, and microwave polymerization.A sample of 42 denture models was randomly divided into 6 groups (n = 7), with base thicknesses of 1.25, 2.50, and 3.75 mm and gypsum or silicone flask investment. Points were demarcated on the distal surface of the second molars and on the back of the gypsum cast at the alveolar ridge level to allow linear and angular measurement using AutoCAD software. The data were subjected to analysis of variance with double factor, Tukey test and Fisher (post hoc).Angular analysis of the varying methods and their interactions generated a statistical difference (P = 0.023) when the magnitudes of molar inclination were compared. Tooth movement was greater for thin-based prostheses, 1.25 mm (-0.234), versus thick 3.75 mm (0.2395), with antagonistic behavior. Prosthesis investment with silicone (0.053) showed greater vertical change compared with the gypsum investment (0.032). There was a difference between the point of analysis, demonstrating that the changes were not symmetric.All groups evaluated showed change in the position of artificial teeth after processing. The complete denture with a thin base (1.25 mm) and silicone investment showed the worst results, whereas intermediate thickness (2.50 mm) was demonstrated to be ideal for the denture base.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of carbamide peroxide (CP) on surfaces of different restorative materials. Porcelain, composite resin, glass ionomer, and amalgam were analyzed in this study. Surface roughness (Ra) was measured before and after treatment with 10% and 15% CP. Fifteen percent CP increased Ra values in both the glass ionomer and amalgam subgroups, while 10% CP increased Ra values in the glass ionomer subgroup only. Changes in restorative material surfaces can be more severe when bleaching is completed without a clinician's supervision. Hence, thorough patient examinations must be done before, during, and after bleaching treatment.

The record of electrical activity of elevator muscles in mandible is important for the evaluation of muscular potency and diagnosis of neuromuscular pathologies, which allows prevention and treatment. The aim of this study was to define silent periods (SPs) and the importance in dentistry and compare the SPs in masticatory muscles of dentate and edentulous patients wearing prosthesis considering the presence or absence of craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD).Literature review in PubMed database.Silent periods are isolated pulses of transcranial magnetic stimulation in the primary motor cortex during voluntary muscular activity that generates an interruption of muscular activity for hundredths of milliseconds. The SP duration depends on the patient (dentate or edentulous), type of stimulus, and presence of CMD.The SP is higher in complete edentulous patients and in individuals with occlusal disharmonies than in dentate patients without CMDs. The treatment of CMDs through occlusal therapy decreases SP duration.

Considerando a importância da lisura superficial das restaurações provisórias, o objetivo desse trabalho foi de avaliar o efeito de diferentes métodos de acabamento e polimento sobre a rugosidade superficial de 05 resinas acrílicas autopolimerizáveis(Dencor®, Dencrilay®, Duralay®, Instatemp® e Vipi Cor®). Um total de 200 corpos de prova foram confeccionados, sendo 40 corpos de prova para cada resina, que foram obtidos a partir de uma matriz bipartida com ummolde cilíndrico de aço inoxidável de 10 mm de diâmetro e 3mm de profundidade. Cada material foi proporcionado de acordo com a recomendação de seu fabricante, inseridos no molde na fase plástica e após polimerização, todos osespécimes foram armazenados em umidificador à 37ºC por 24 horas. Dez espécimes de cada resina foram submetidos a cada um dos seguintes procedimentos: a) sof-lex + branco de espanha; b) sof-lex + selante de superfície; c) pedra-pomes+ branco de espanha; d) pedra-pomes + selante de superfície. Em seguida, a rugosidade superficial média (Ra medida em μm) foi aferida e registrada pelo rugosímetro (SJ-301, Mitutoyo – Japan) para posterior comparação entre os grupos.Os dados coletados foram submetidos à análise estatística através de testes paramétricos de “Kolmogorov-Smirnov” e análise de variância com nível de significância de 5%. Os resultados evidenciaram diferença estatisticamente significante em relação à rugosidade apenas entre a resina Instatemp® (menos rugosa) e a resina Vipi-Cor® (mais rugosa). No entanto, ao comparar os procedimentos de acabamento e polimento independente do tipo de resina acrílica, os dados evidenciaram diferenças numéricas, porém sem diferença estatisticamente significativa. Dentro das limitações desse estudo, concluiu-se que as resinas acrílicas apresentaram comportamento diferente em relação à rugosidade superficial média frente aos métodos de acabamento e polimento.

As falhas em Prótese Parcial Fixa podem ocorrer de muitas maneiras, sendo a fratura da porcelana associada ao grupo de problemas mecânicos. Esta ocorrência pode ser reparada sem a necessidade de remoção da peça protética, embora a substituição da restauração seja considerada a solução ideal. Assim, diferentes tratamentos superficiais são utilizados para melhorar a força de união entre cerâmica – resina e viabilizar o reparo. Este estudo analisou a superfície cerâmica tratada com ácido fosfórico à 37% e ácido fluorídrico à 9,5% por meio da microscopia eletrônica de varredura. Quarenta amostras cerâmicas (VITA Zahnfabrik, Alemanha), foram confeccionadas a partir de uma matriz metálica circular, com dimensões de 10mmx3mm. As amostras foram divididas nos seguintes grupos, I) controle – sem tratamento; II) tratamento com ácido fluorídrico à 9,5% por 1 minuto; III) tratamento com ácido fluorídrico à 9,5% por 2 minutos; IV) tratamento com ácido fosfórico à 37% por 1 minuto; V) tratamento com ácido fosfórico à 37% por 2 minutos. Após os respectivos tratamentos, as amostras foram metalizadas (20Kv, 15mA, 2 minutos), no aparelho Denton Vaccum Desk II, sendo em seguida, analisadas no MEV (JEOL – JSM 5410). As superfícies tratadas com ácido fosfórico à 37% por 1 ou 2 minutos não apresentaram alterações morfológicas significativa, enquanto a superfície cerâmica tratada com ácido fluorídrico à 9,5% por 1 minuto já apresentou alteração morfológica significativa, sendo este achado mais evidente após 2 minutos de aplicação. Clinicamente este trabalho sugere um reparo mais eficiente quando a superfície cerâmica é tratada com ácido fluorídrico.

Para cumprir essa orientação, é imprescindível uma “atitude epidemiológica”, de forma a não permitir que o trabalho se restrinja apenas à aplicação de técnicas, mas imponha uma postura de invenção permanente ao lidar com o sofrimento psíquico. Este estudo, que traça o perfil epidemiológico da população que utiliza o serviço de psicologia do Ambulatório de Saúde Mental deBirigui São Paulo, foi realizado através de coleta de dados dos prontuários dos pacientes em atendimento psicoterapêutico. Foram pesquisados: idade, gênero, queixa, realização e duração de tratamento psicológico anterior, período do atual tratamento psicológico, forma de encaminhamento ao ambulatório e tipo de tratamento. Segundo os dados, a população atendida foi predominantemente de adultos (82,8%) do gênero feminino (81,0%). O sintoma mais comum relatado foi o transtorno depressivo (61,1%), e a maioria (72,2%) estava em tratamento psicológico pela primeira vez. Os dados analisados nos permitem concluir que a caracterização dos pacientes auxilia no esboço de um perfil de usuários para orientar e propor atendimentos dos serviços de saúde mental. To improve mental health services, the World Health Organization proposes an “epidemiological approach” based on the constant screening of existing research, and aimed at continuous improvement of psychological treatment rather than strict application of prescribed techniques. This study provides an epidemiological survey conducted at the psychology ward of the municipal Ambulatório de Saúde Mental in Birigui, São Paulo, Brazil. Data from 180 patients in psychotherapeutic care were collected, and subsequent descriptive analysis showed that the population consisted predominantly of adults (82.8% of total) and females (81.0%). Depressive disorder was the most common symptom (61.1%), and the majority of the participants (72.2%) received psychological treatment for the first time. The data presented in this paper can assist mental health professionals in selecting appropriate treatment by creating a profile of patients. Objetivou-se investigar a forma como os profissionais e acadêmicos de Odontologia percebem seus pacientes acometidos por essa disfunção, seus sentimentos diante do sofrimento dos mesmos e a importância de uma abordagem multidisciplinar, pontuando quais os tratamentos utilizados. Vale ressaltar que, na problemática da disfunção temporomandibular, estão envolvidos vários fatores, dentre eles o emocional, citado pela maioria dos entrevistados. Os dados obtidos em relação ao conhecimento dos profissionais e alunos quanto ao atendimento do paciente com disfunção temporomandibular foi considerado adequado; entretanto, mostraram inadequações importantes, como o fato de os profissionais não investigarem melhor o histórico de vida do paciente em seu aspecto psicossocial. This paper presents the results of an applied qualitative study with dental students and professionals who work with people suffering from temporomandibular disorder. The aim was to investigate the way that dental practitioners and students perceive patients affected by this disorder, how they feel faced with the patients' suffering, and the importance they assign to a multidisciplinary approach, highlighting the treatments used. It is noteworthy that various factors are involved in the temporomandibular disorder framework, including emotional factors, as cited by the majority of the respondents. The data obtained indicated that the knowledge of the professionals and students related to caring for people with temporomandibular disorders was appropriate, however, important inadequacies were highlighted, such as the fact that professionals do not investigate the life history of the person in their psychosocial context. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de dois diferentes ambientes de sinterização (vácuo e argônio) sobre a resistência da união metaloceramica (RUMC) envolvendo diferentes ligas de metais básicos (Co-Cr e Ni-Cr) e uma porcelana odontológica, através do teste de flexão de três pontos, conforme preconizado pela ISO 9693:2012. As ligas estudadas foram Co-Cr: Remanium e Keragen e Ni-Cr: Verabond II e uma liga experimental “SR” . Foram obtidos 80 corpos de prova em forma tiras metálicas medindo 25 X 0,5 X 5 mm. Para esse ensaio, portanto, o número de corpos de prova foi o produto de 4 ligas x 2 condições de atmosfera de sinterização x 10 repetições. A parte metálica de todos os corpos de prova após a fundição foram usinados e jateados com óxido de alumínio (150μm) e a seguir tratados como preconizado pelo fabricante. O corpo cerâmico, com o auxílio de uma matriz, foi confeccionado na área central da tira, 8,0 X 3,0mm, apresentando 1,1mm de espessura, sendo 10 corpos de prova em cada ambiente de sinterização para cada tipo de liga. Os corpos de prova obtidos foram submetidos aos testes de flexão de três pontos na Máquina de Ensaios Mecânicos (EMIC) com velocidade de 1.0mm/min. para determinação da RUMC. Os valores da carga de ruptura obtidos em quilograma-força (Kgf) foram convertidos para Newton (N) e a partir disso foi calculado o valor da RUMC para cada corpo de prova, considerando o coeficiente de elasticidade de cada liga e a espessura exata de cada corpo de prova. Os dados obtidos (MPa) foram submetidos à análise estatística (ANOVA) e Bonferroni. A Análise de Variância indicou diferença estatisticamente significante para os fatores de variação ambiente (P=0,00), liga (P=0,009) e entre as interações ambiente de sinterização e liga (P=0,000). Na sinterização a vácuo as ligas Keragen, SR e Verabond II apresentaram maiores valores de RUMC do que o argônio. Para a liga Remanium, não houve diferença entre a sinterização em argônio e a sinterização a vácuo. Dentre os grupos sinterizados no argônio não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre as ligas. Entretanto, no vácuo a liga Remanium apresentou menor valor de RUMC do que as demais ligas, que não apresentaram diferença entre si. Os corpos de prova, após os ensaios de flexão, foram submetidos a análise em microscopia optica, MEV e EDS para avaliar e registrar tipo de falha que sofreram. De acordo com a MO, houve predomínio de fraturas mistas. Os corpos de prova de Co-Cr (Remanium e Keragen), independende do ambiente de sinterização, apresentaram uma fina camada de óxido no corpo cerâmico, o que foi comprovado pelo EDS, com maior presença de íons Cr nessas regiões, já os grupos SR e Verabond II, apresentaram maior quantidade de opaco aderido em suas tiras metálicas. A MEV comprovou os achados da MO, onde foi possível encontrar grandes ilhas de material cerâmico nas ligas de Ni-Cr. A sinterização em argônio influenciou negativamente a RUMC dos pares metalocerâmicos confeccionados em Ni-Cr e na liga Keragem The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of two different firing atmosphere (vacuum and argon) on the metalceramic bond strength (MCBS) involving different base metal alloys (Co-Cr and Ni-Cr) and a dental porcelain through three-point bending test, as recommended by ISO 9693: 2012. Co-Cr alloys studied were: Remanium and Keragen and Ni-Cr: Verabond II and an experimental alloy \"SR\". 80 specimens were obtained in metallic form strips measuring 25X0.5 X 5.0 mm. For this test, therefore, the number of specimens was the product of 4 x 2 alloy sintering atmosphere conditions x 10 replicates. The metal portion of all specimens were machined after casting and sandblasted with aluminum oxide (100μm) and then treated as recommended by the manufacturer. By using a matrix, the ceramic body was made in the central area of the strip, 8.0 x 3.0 mm, it was made 1.1 mm thickness, 10 specimens in each sintering environment for each type of alloy. The specimens obtained were tested for three-point bending in a universal testing machine with a speed of 1.0mm / min. to determine MCBS. The values of the tensile strength obtained in kilogramforce (kgf) were converted into Newton (N) and from this the value of MCBS for each specimen was calculated, considering the coefficient of elasticity of each league and the exact thickness of each specimen. The data (MPa) were subjected to statistical analysis (ANOVA) and Bonferroni. The analysis of variance indicated statistically significant difference for the environment factors of firing atmosphere (P = 0.00) and alloy (P = 0.009). There was a statistically significant difference in the interaction factors for firing atmosphere x alloy (P = 0.000). In the vacuum Keragen, SR and Verabond II alloys showed higher MCBS than argon. To Remanium, there was no difference between the sintering in argon and vacuum. Among the groups sintered in argon there was no statistically significant difference between the alloys. However, the vacuum Remanium showed the lowest RUMC than other alloys, which showed no difference between them. The specimens after the bending tests, were subjected to analysis in optical microscopy, SEM and EDS to assess and record type of failure they suffered. According to the MO was predominantly mixed fractures. Specimens of Co-Cr (Remanium and Keragen) independende the atmosphere firing, showed a thin oxide layer on the ceramic body, which was confirmed by EDS, with greater presence of Cr in these regions, since the SR groups and Verabond II, presented more opaque stuck in their metal strips. SEM confirmed the findings of MO, where it was possible to find large islands of ceramic material in Ni-Cr alloys.
