Sparkling wine has widely been consumed because of its high added value. Sparkling wine is mainly produced using grape, however different fruits have been studied to ferment the wine. The objective of this study was to determine the quality characteristics and antioxidant potential of sparkling wine produced by using ripe persimmon with three strains of Saccharomyces, that is, S. bayanus, S. carlsbergensis, and S. cerevisiae. Persimmon sparkling wine samples were prepared by fermenting different amounts of persimmon fruit and water. Alcohol content was significantly varied in base wine with different proportion of persimmon fruit and water. Antioxidant potential in term of DPPH radical scavenging potential of the base wine prepared with 4:1 ratio of persimmon and water was significantly high. However, the tannin content of the wine samples was not significantly affected. Sensory characteristics in term of full-body was also significantly high for the wine prepared with 4:1 ratio of persimmon and water. Inoculation method also affected the ethanol content of persimmon sparkling wine. Results of this experiment showed that good quality persimmon sparkling wine could be prepared by fermenting 4:1 ratio of ripe persimmon and water during first fermentation.

Makgeolli, frequently called Takju, a famous Korean traditional rice wine, has long been prepared and consumed in Korea. Takju consumption in Korea has been increased because of its nutritional and functional values. The objective of the present study was to investigate the chemical characteristics, color values, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activities, total phenolic contents, and sensory characteristics of Takju. Green peppers enhanced the antioxidant potential, and the overall acceptance of pepper Takju. Moreover, unfavorable effects of green peppers were not observed on the basic chemical and organoleptic properties, but imparted favorable properties on pepper Takju. The appropriate amount of green peppers to be added to the second phase of Takju fermentation was about 9% of the total rice for fermentation. The results of the present study revealed that, an addition of optimum amount of green peppers could enhance the antioxidant potentials and also the overall acceptance of Takju. A hierarchical CNT-loaded GF composite paper interlayer was fabricated by a sonication method. In this study, the GF paper offers outstanding electrolyte uptake, which is essential for preserving dissolved polysulphides, and the CNT networks provide a fast electron pathway for insulating the active materials. The GF/CNT interlayer-loaded Li-S cell exhibited a high capacity and long-term cycling performance.

The selective detection of two different gases, NO(2) and C(2)H(5)OH, has been achieved using a p-type Co(3)O(4)-decorated n-type ZnO nanowire (NW) network sensor. The gas selectivity was explained by the catalytic effect of nanocrystalline Co(3)O(4) and the extension of the electron depletion layer via the formation of p-n junctions.

This study reports the enhanced electrical properties of InGaZnO 4 thin film transistors (TFTs) with sputter-deposited poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/Ba 0.6 Sr 0.4 TiO 3 (BST) stacked gate dielectrics. A noticeable reduction in the leakage current density (∼10 -8 A/cm 2 at 0.3 MV) was achieved by coating a PMMA overlayer. The InGaZnO 4 TFTs utilizing the PMMA (30 nm)/BST (270 nm) stacked gate dielectrics exhibited a high on/off current ratio of 2.6 × 10 6 , a high field effect mobility of 10.2 cm 2 /V · s, and a low threshold voltage of 1.1 V. Using stacked gate dielectric layers, we realized the low voltage operating InGaZnO 4 TFTs on a poly(ethylene terephthalate) substrate.

The facile synthesis, by electrospinning of highly conductive RuO2 fiber mats as the conducting core of electrochemical capacitors, is reported. Electrospun RuO2 fiber mats, calcined at 400 °C, exhibited highly porous morphologies composed of crystalline RuO2 nano-particles with an average particle size of 10 nm. The highly conducting (σ = 288 S cm−1) fiber mats were used as the basis of a hybrid electrochemical capacitor in which the fiber mats served as the conducting core for electrochemically deposited hydrate RuO2·nH2O overlayers. These electrochemical capacitors exhibited superior characteristics: a high specific capacitance of ∼886.9 F g−1 (based on the mass of the hydrous RuO2 coating layer) at scan rate of 10 mV s−1 and high rate capability with a capacity loss of only 30% from 10 to 2000 mV s−1. This is attributed to the superior electron transport pathways provided by the fiber mat core to the upper ionically conducting hydrous RuO2 coating layer.

A new zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) DC/DC convertor which operates on constant frequency and has wide linearity is proposed. ZVS operations are achieved not only for the primary switches but also for the secondary rectifier diodes to reduce the switch stresses and losses. The proposed convenor also overcomes the other shortcomings of the conventional resonant DC/DC convertors such as high VA ratings of devices and passive components, load-dependent DC characteristics, etc.

Chemical sensors have been essential components in recent years due to the gathering attention in environmental monitoring and healthcare. In this review, the authors comprehensively highlight recent progresses on the 1D chemiresistive-type sensors based on semiconductor metal oxides (SMOs) and optical-type sensors, which are prepared by electrospinning technique. In the part of chemiresistive-type sensors, diverse synthesis techniques for 1D SMO nanofibrous structure are presented with controlled microstructure and surface morphology. In addition, unique functionalization routes of emerging nanocatalysts encapsulated by bio-inspired templates are described for the next generation catalyst on the 1D SMO nanofibers (NFs). For the optical-type sensors, new classes of 1D NFs employing specific absorption and emission properties are introduced. In particular, diverse 1D NF-based colorimetric and fluorescence sensors as well as Raman and surface-enhanced Raman scattering sensors are covered in the view point of material preparation and optical sensing properties. Finally, the authors prospect future research directions to overcome current limitations and challenges to achieve high performance chemical sensors.
