This study looked at how using small or large pieces of Rice Husk Ash and Waste Paper Sludge Ash can affect how strong and how much the concrete shrinks when it dries. When Rice Husk Ash (RHA) and Waste Paper Sludge Ash (WPSA) were added to concrete, more water was needed. However, the mechanical properties of the concrete were similar or better than the concrete made with just Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). Finer RHA and WPSA gave the best improvements. Rice husk and waste paper ash made things shrink a lot because of tiny particles that cause it to happen. This research looked at using waste paper sludge ash instead of some of the cement in a kind of concrete called M20 mix. They tested different amounts of the ash (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%) to see how strong it made the concrete. They tested the strength of the concrete up to 28 days after it was made and compared it to normal concrete. Waste paper sludge can be used as fuel because it has a lot of heat energy. Afterwards, the remaining ash can be used to replace some of the cement.

The aim of this white paper is to draw attention to the roles and responsibilities of higher education and research organisations in addressing gender-based violence. These roles and responsibilities may not be recognised or are downplayed, and this results in institutions failing to take appropriate action to ensure safe environments for students and staff. Secondly, the white paper aims to explicate the essential features and elements of effective policies and actions and lastly, to highlight the critical role of institutional leadership in making the policy frameworks and actions work. This white paper is primarily intended for: institutional leaders and top management; staff responsible for the design, adoption and implementation of institutional policies; staff appointed to support victims and survivors; and any other member of the academic community committed to ending gender-based violence. It builds on the results of the UniSAFE research, including the prevalence study (Lipinsky et al. 2022, Humbert et al. 2022), the institutional policy analysis (Huck et al. 2022), case studies (Ranea-Triviño et al. 2022), interviews (Blazyte and Pilinkaite 2022), and stakeholder and expert workshops (Yellow Window 2023a, 2023b), the purpose of which have been to gain insight into and test emerging policy solutions.

Disposal of waste sludges produced in large amounts in the paper industry could generate significant environmental and health issues. One strategy to address them involves revalorization of deinking paper sludge (DPS) by reusing it as fertilizer. However, the possible human health risks associated with the use of DPS are still not well explored. The main objective of this report was to estimate DPS impacts on human toxicity. To achieve this goal, heavy metals analysis of the DPS waste (Cadmium; Cd, Copper; Cu; Molybdenum; Mo, Manganese; Mn; Lead; Pb; Cobalt; Co) was conducted. The assessment of human toxicity was performed by applying the UNEP/SETAC toxicity modelUSEtox 2.0to establish indicators that reflect the potential health damage of these chemicals when released into the environment. Laboratory analysis, revealed a very low concentration of the DPS by the metallic contaminants (Cd, Cu, Mo, Mn, Pb, Co). According to the USEtox model results, these quantities will not lead to either carcinogenic or non-carcinogenic risks on human health even if there is a use of very high quantities of DPS. Indeed, the number of cases /t DPS emitted in agricultural soils didn’t exceed 950.10-7for the non-carcinogenic effect and 3.71.10-7for the carcinogenic effect for Pb. For Mn and Co, we noticed no toxic effects (0 cases /t DPS emitted). Furthermore, we observed that Mo and Cu had very weak non-carcinogenic effects and led respectively to 445.10-7and 56.10-7cases /t DPS emitted.Regarding the effect of Cd toxicity, in order to have one case of this metal toxicity from DPS waste in our study, we had to use a very important quantity of DPS (≈2 821 680t). All these dataemphasizedon the absence of heath human toxicity risk after DPS waste industrial disposal, by ingestion or inhalation.

Light bleaching, as a treatment option for discoloured papers, is currently being reconsidered in the British Museum Western Art on Paper Conservation Studio. This research project was carried out in order to determine optimal and practical treatment conditions. Light bleaching experiments on artificially aged modern papers and naturally aged 18th century paper immersed in baths of filtered tap water, deionised water, sodium-based buffers, magnesium bicarbonate and calcium hydroxide at alkalinities ranging from pH 8 to pH 12 of have shown that, in general, solutions at a higher pH are more effective at removing discolouration than solutions at neutral pH values. Filtered tap water and deionised water were significantly less effective than any of the other solutions. Magnesium bicarbonate appeared particularly effective at removing discolouration in the dark as well as during light bleaching when compared to calcium hydroxide at neutral or mildly alkaline conditions. Treatments in calcium hydroxide at higher pH values (pH 10 to pH 12) were sometimes more effective than magnesium bicarbonate but this appeared to depend upon paper type and treatment time. Treatments in the sodiumbased buffers were generally the most effective, suggesting that borax may be an alternative to calcium hydroxide which can be laborious to keep at a stable pH for prolonged treatments. In the discipline of civil engineering, the foundation plays a crucial role in supporting and containing loads of complete structures. Therefore, a foundation needs to be strong enough to increase any structure's useful life. The soil has a direct impact on the structure's foundation. Vertisols soil is soil with unstable and weak soil that needs to be stabilized to make the soil suitable for construction purposes. The study is to determine the effectiveness of the pulverized used paper and sugarcane straw ash as stabilizers of vertisols soil in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija. Natural soil was classified as A-7-6 of AASTHO classification system and CH as group name classified by USCS classification system, indicates that the soil is high in clay. The index properties of the natural soil showed that it is poor and weak soil that is not applicable for engineering purposes. Liquid limit and plasticity index values of 60% and 35%, respectively, suggested that the soil is in high plasticity. There is a gradual decrease in the plasticity index to a value of 25% at 15% SCSA+PUP as compared to natural vertisols soil with 35%, this indicates that the soil is progressively stabilizing. In addition, there are increases in the compaction parameters and CBR value of 14.0283 kN/m3and 5.47 at 100% MDD compared to natural vertisols soil with values of 13.69476 kN/m3and 4.83 at 100% MDD, respectively. But these values fall from the requirement suggested of sub-base coarse, however, there are considerable changes in the vertisols soil using SCSA and PUP. This study sought to decode the communicative intent of the analyzed rhetoric moves and metadiscourse markers of basic and action research funded under the Department of Education’s Basic Education Research Fund (BERF). Genre Analysis was used to analyze the corpora of the 30 BERF papers completed from 2016-2022. With the aid of coding sheets, the following structures were used: a combination of Hardjanto’s (1997; 2017) and Kosasih’s (2018) Abstract; Swales and Feak’s (2012) Introduction, Mc Combes’ (2019; 2021) Research Questions; Kwan’s (2006) Literature Review; DepEd’s Innovation, Intervention, and Strategy; a combination of Lim (2006), Peacock (2011), Kanoksilapatham (2012) and Huang’s (2014) Methodology; Swales and Feak’s (2012) Results and Discussion, and Yang & Allison’s (2003) Conclusion and Recommendation moves and steps framework. Using the Krippendorff alpha coefficient, the inter-rater reliability of the coders was set at almost perfect agreement (0. 838 or 84%). Generally, 26 obligatory, 31 optional, and 25 non-obligatory moves and steps were identified per the research section. Metadiscourse markers were determined utilizing AntConc 4.0.10 and were ranked as follows: (1) Evidentials, (2) Transition, (2) Self-mentions, (4) Code glosses, (5) Frame Markers, (6) Attitude Markers, (7) Hedges, (8) Engagement Markers, (9) Boosters, and (10) Endophoric Markers. Integrating the rhetoric moves, steps, and markers, the researcher came up with the six communicative intents (Inform, Outline, Convince, Explain, Present, Integrate) in writing research. A structure for writing BERF research proposal and completed papers were crafted in response to the findings. This study shall promote the culture of research, contribute to the growing literature, address gaps, and open opportunities for follow-up studies. &nbsp

The present study aims to highlight the features of Connected Papers, a visual tool that can help researchers find and explore academic papers in their literature search. The authors describe how Connected Papers allow to create a network of all the literature available related to a chosen paper. One can use Connected Papers to pull together related papers on a chosen topic and see prior and derivative works based on that topic. Using the Connected Papers tool authors attempt to visualize the key literature on the topic “Blockchain in libraries.” To date, most Blockchain technology applications in libraries are still in the conceptual stage. However, sooner or later, the development and implementation of the technology are expected to facilitate the transforma- tion of how libraries provide services and organize information. This study contributes to examining the research being done to explore the potential of Blockchain technology in libraries through mapping and visualization. This White Paper provides an analysis of the Directory of polar research funding programmes in Europe (D4.1) for the purpose of assisting European funding agencies and other stakeholders to understand the landscape and cooperation potential of European polar research funding. On this basis a continued dialogue with national polar research funding agencies and operators, EC representatives and other stakeholders, EU-PolarNet 2 will work towards developing the European Polar Research Area by optimising the coordination and complementary value of European (Horizon Europe), national and global polar research funding programmes. This is also needed to effectively address the most pressing research questions identified by the international polar research community under the SCAR Horizon Scan, the IASC ICARP III process and the scientific prioritisation of polar research topics identified under the Set of White papers addressing priority questions in polar research and targeting funding agencies and policy makers (EU-Polar Net 1 White Papers), as well as the Integrated European Polar Research Programme, published by EU-PolarNet 1 in 2020. After consultations and dialogue with funding agencies and stakeholders, our final goal under EU-PolarNet 2 is to provide recommendations for a Partnership initiative in Polar Research under Horizon Europe supporting the implementation and development of future European research actions.

The development of global demand for pulp and paper industry products both domestically and for export is still promising, including tissue paper products, packaging paper and so on. Another industry that is growing along with the growth of the paper industry is paper chemicals or additives used in the paper-making process. In business, data mining is used to find patterns and relationships in data to help make better business decisions. Data mining techniques using association rules such as market basket analysis can help find sales trends, develop smarter marketing campaigns, and accurately predict customer loyalty. From the research results, the most sold products at PT. AKL is Epostrong Final/CT/FG. Experiments with a minimum support value of 0.05 and a minimum confidence value of 0.05 obtained seven association rules that can be used as a reference to determine which products have the opportunity to increase sales because the resulting association rules are ideal with a lift ratio value > 1 so that they have the potential to be used. Based on the final association rules, with a support value of 1.4%, a confidence value of 100% and a lift ratio value of 3.227, it is obtained that if you buy a bustrong 20D and a bustrong 11G, you will buy calciperse. The number of papers submitted to academic conferences is steadily rising in many scientific disciplines. To handle this growth, systems for automatic paper-reviewer assignments are increasingly used during the reviewing process. These systems use statistical topic models to characterize the content of submissions and automate the assignment to reviewers. In this paper, we show that this automation can be manipulated using adversarial learning. We propose an attack that adapts a given paper so that it misleads the assignment and selects its own reviewers. Our attack is based on a novel optimization strategy that alternates between the feature space and problem space to realize unobtrusive changes to the paper. To evaluate the feasibility of our attack, we simulate the paper-reviewer assignment of an actual security conference (IEEE S&P) with 165 reviewers on the program committee. Our results show that we can successfully select and remove reviewers without access to the assignment system. ABSTRACT REST APIs have become widely adopted in the software industry, finding extensive usage for business-critical purposes such as data exchange, mobile app development, and microservice-based architectures. Such popularity has led to a proliferation of dedicated frameworks, making it challenging for developers and organizations to choose which one to use for developing resource-efficient solutions. Adding to the complexity is the possibility of adopting also different execution environments, such as GraalVM, that offer advantages such as faster startup times, lower memory footprint, and polyglot capabilities. Some prior works have investigated the performance of various frameworks for REST APIs. Still, these studies often consider simplistic scenarios with a single endpoint, which fail to capture the complexity and diversity of real-world REST API applications. Furthermore, the impact of different execution environments on performance was often overlooked. Consequently, there remains a significant knowledge gap in comprehensively assessing the combined influence of frameworks and execution environments on the performance of REST APIs. This study aims to move a first step towards bridging that gap, by conducting a thorough performance benchmark that encompasses real-world REST APIs and considers also the effects of different execution environments. More in detail, the study focuses on two of the most popular programming language and framework combinations for REST APIs, namely JavaScript with the Express framework and Java with the Spring framework. As for the execution environment, we consider both mainstream execution environments for JavaScript and Java (Node and OpenJDK, respectively), and GraalVM, which can execute both Java and JavaScript software. The benchmarking process involves conducting realistic load and stress tests using state-of-the-art tools. Results reveal significant differences in performance across the considered combinations, providing insights that could support developers and system architects in making more informed decisions on the technologies to use for their REST API projects. Despite the drive to digitise learning, paper still holds a prominent role within educational settings. While computational devices have several advantages over paper (e.g. changing and showing content based on user interaction and needs) their prolonged or incorrect usage can hinder educational achievements. In this paper, we combine the interactivity of computational devices with paper whilst reducing the usage of technology to the minimum. To this end, we developed and evaluated a novel back-print illumination paper display called LightMeUp where different information printed on the back side of the paper becomes visible when paper is placed on an interactive display and back-illuminated with a particular colour. To develop this novel display, we first built a display simulator that enables the simulation of various spectral characteristics of the elements used in the system (i.e. light sources such as tablet computers, paper types and printing inks). By using our simulator, we designed various use-case prototypes that demonstrate the capabilities and feasibility of the proposed system. With our simulator and use-cases presented, educators and educational content designers can easily design multi-stable interactive visuals by using readily available paper, printers and touch displays.

The data is associated to a paper presenting a first survey on the vibration response of beam-like specimens formed by a vacuum plastic bag with single-layer or double-layer 3D-printed structured fabrics encompassing spherical-octahedra, octahedra and cubes truss-like rigid elements. The study presents a comprehensive analysis of the bending stiffness and energy dissipation properties with respect to the level of vacuum as well as the type and number (single or double) of overlapped fabrics. The data is relative toquasi-static analysis of the bending stiffness and hysteresis loss factor of the beam-like specimens. With a view to fabricating prominently strong handmade paper, MCC suspension (exterior additive), wax emulsion (interior additive) and reinforcement were applied with rosin. Optimal outcome was achieved on application of rosin incorporated with alum (internal additive) and MCC suspension. The strength was enhanced by 24.23% on rosin-alum treatment and use of MCC suspension. It was also noticed that use of rosin along with wax always lowered the strength.

Natural Hydrogen is a new, clean and low-carbon source of hydrogen that is produced by the Earth, and can migrate and accumulate in geological reservoirs. Its exploration has begun in many countries and its price could be significantly lower than other H2 sources. In this position paper, the earth2 initiative summarizes (i) what natural hydrogen is, (ii) how we explore and produce it, (iii) the benefits of this new resource, (iv) the maturity of the technology, (v) the presence of a very active community (vi) the potential growth for this business, (vii) the need for regulatory evolution and appropriate taxonomy at European level and (viii) the next steps in natural H2 development, considering the needs for investments in demonstration systems and pilots.
