Origami architecture (OA) is a fascinating papercraft that involves only a piece of paper with cuts and folds. Interesting geometric structures ‘pop up’ when the paper is opened. However, manually designing such a physically valid 2D paper pop-up plan is challenging since fold lines must jointly satisfy hard spatial constraints. Existing works on automatic OA-style paper pop-up design all focused on how to generate a pop-up structure that approximates a given target 3D model. This paper presents the first OA-style paper pop-up design framework that takes 2D images instead of 3D models as input. Our work is inspired by the fact that artists often use 2D profiles to guide the design process, thus benefited from the high availability of 2D image resources. Due to the lack of 3D geometry information, we perform novel theoretic analysis to ensure the foldability and stability of the resultant design. Based on a novel graph representation of the paper pop-up plan, we further propose a practical optimization algorithm via mixed-integer programming that jointly optimizes the topology and geometry of the 2D plan. We also allow the user to interactively explore the design space by specifying constraints on fold lines. Finally, we evaluate our framework on various images with interesting 2D shapes. Experiments and comparisons exhibit both the efficacy and efficiency of our framework.

Estimation of pH is vital to assess the biochemical and biological processes in a wide variety of applications ranging from water to soil, health, and environment monitoring. This work reports a screen-printed flexible and disposable pH sensor using the impedimetric method. The pH sensor was fabricated by screen printing Graphene-Carbon modified Zinc Oxide based active layer on a paper substrate and shows nearly three orders of change in impedance magnitude in the pH range of 2 – 9. The sensor was carefully designed using COMSOL® Multiphysics software to understand the influence of electrode geometry and the electrical potential developed across the structure. The developed sensor was used for pH monitoring of soil and exhibited high sensitivity of 5.27 kΩ /pH (2-8) with a correlation coefficient (R 2 ) of 0.99. Finally, an IoT-enabled smart pH detection system was implemented for continuous pH monitoring for potential application in digital agriculture. The outcome demonstrates that the presented flexible and disposable pH sensor could open new opportunities for monitoring of water, product process, human health, and chemical (or bio) reactions even using small volumes of samples.

The total/partial oil change treatment can affect the furfural partitioning in oil-paper-pressboard insulation, resulting in poor accuracy of furfural analysis. Moreover, due to the high cost of total oil change, partial oil change is more practical during transformer operation. This paper investigates the furfural partitioning in the oil-paper-pressboard insulation under partial oil change conditions. First, the initial furfural partitioning equation with non-oil change is proposed based on the obtained furfural content in oil, paper, and pressboard. Then, the modified furfural partitioning model under partial oil change condition is established by introducing a correction factor. Moreover, a preliminary correction scheme for the furfural partitioning model considering the influence of moisture and acid is provided. Finally, furfural content in oil-Kraft paper and oil-thermally upgraded Kraft (TUK) paper insulation are discussed, and results indicate that the proposed modified furfural partitioning model is not suitable for the oil-TUK paper insulation. This work can provide theoretical support for furfural analysis of oil-immersed transformers.

Cellulosic insulating paper is the essential component of the insulation in power transformers. Under the thermal stress inside the transformer, the cellulosic insulating paper degrades and generates formic acid. Meanwhile, the presence of formic acid further accelerates the aging process of cellulosic insulating paper. This study takes the cellulose molecule composed of D-glucose as the research object. The ReaxFF reactive force field is applied to simulate the high-temperature thermal aging process of cellulosic insulating paper. During pyrolysis process, the number of formic acid molecules presents short-term fluctuations and continuous increases. Though simulation, the main reaction pathways of cellulose pyrolysis to generate formic acid are obtained. In addition, an accelerated thermal aging experiment of oil-paper insulation is designed. The formic acid in the experimental samples is detected by the silanization derivatization method. Through the combination of simulation and experimental results, the feasibility of formic acid as an aging indicator for cellulosic insulating paper is further demonstrated.

[EN] Human social relationships imply conforming to the norms, behaviors and cultural values of the society, but also socialization of emotions, to learn how to interpret and show them. In multiagent systems, much progress has been made in the analysis and interpretation of both emotions and norms. Nonetheless, the relationship between emotions and norms has hardly been considered and most normative agents do not consider emotions, or vice-versa. In this article, we provide an overview of relevant aspects within the area of normative agents and emotional agents. First we focus on the concept of norm, the different types of norms, its life cycle and a review of multiagent normative systems. Secondly, we present the most relevant theories of emotions, the life cycle of an agent¿s emotions, and how emotions have been included through computational models in multiagent systems. Next, we present an analysis of proposals that integrate emotions and norms in multiagent systems. From this analysis, four relationships are detected between norms and emotions, which we analyze in detail and discuss how these relationships have been tackled in the reviewed proposals. Sandwich-structured nanocomposites have the potential to improve the mechanical and electrical properties of materials simultaneously. Nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) modified paper sheet (denominated as N) and softwood paper sheet (denominated as P) are used to prepare insulating paper. Different kinds of insulating paper with the structures of PPP, NNN, NPN and PNP are prepared. Tensile strength, DC conductivity, dielectric response, space charge and breakdown strength are measured. The activation energies of prepared materials are calculated through DC conductivity at 30, 50, 70, and 90 °C. The mechanism for sandwich structure regulating the mechanical and breakdown properties of insulating paper is discussed. Oil impregnated N/P/N paper has a remarkable improvement on tensile strength, conductivity, and DC breakdown strength, which provides a promising scheme to obtain the insulating paper with outstanding tensile and breakdown strength.

Hybrid or heterogenous integration of silicon technologies and printed electronics is a promising approach for high-performance flexible electronics. It is essentially the integration of rigid microchips with the printed circuit on a flexible substrate. However, microchips with no-lead and mm size pitch introduce practical challenges in terms of precise electrical bonding onto the printed pattern. The differences in mechanical and thermal requirements also make it challenging to use conventional bonding and interconnect technology to robustly connect the microchips on flexible substrates. The focus of this work is to present these challenges with respect to different substrate-adhesive combinations and to provide a facile technique for integrating NFC microchips on different flexible substrates. Following the successful integration, the smart tags were characterised to demonstrate reliable performance in the NFC reading range. Whilst presenting a hybrid integration for the smart tag, this work also shows a potential solution for several other applications of flexible electronics where high-performance cannot be achieved by printed electronics alone.
