National audience; Des chercheurs de l’Observatoire Hommes-Milieux Vallée du Rhône (CNRS-INEE) ont travaillé en 2017-2018 sur la bancarisation et la visualisation de ressources biophysiques historiques sur le fleuve Rhône. Ce projet interdisciplinaire, associant des géographes et des écologues, a consisté à prospecter des services d’archives encore peu explorés afin d’améliorer la connaissance du fonctionnement biophysique du fleuve, notamment avant les grandes transformations liées à l’aménagement hydraulique du Rhône (pré-1850).Une base de données contenant 350 cartes, plans et relevés topographiques issus de 14 services d’archives institutionnels, départementaux et nationaux a été compilée sur l’ensemble du Rhône français (530 km de long), du 17e au milieu du 20e siècle. Cette base de données augmente substantiellement le nombre de cartes déjà collectées dans les précédents programmes de recherche, elle couvre une plus longue période et devrait permettre des analyses spatio-temporelles plus détaillées. Elle offre ainsi la possibilité d’affiner la connaissance de la trajectoire socio-environnementale du Rhône grâce à l’étude de l’évolution des différents compartiments de la plaine alluviale, par exemple la morphologie des chenaux en eau, la végétation riveraine ou encore les éléments anthropiques (bâti, routes, rail, ouvrages hydrauliques).Afin de valoriser la base de données et la rendre accessible au plus grand nombre, l’idée d’un data paper a émergé à la fin du projet. Cette communication propose de revenir sur les différentes étapes de son élaboration : choix de la revue, choix de l’entrepôt de données, gestion des différentes politiques de réutilisation des données d’archives, préparation des données, rédaction, réflexion sur la section Data use and application du manuscrit, soumission, révision publique. L’article publié dans Earth System Science Data en 2021 est le premier data paper en SHS de l’OHM Vallée du Rhône.

International audience; Food has become a social issue. Developing a healthy relationship with food is a complex process as it implies a behaviour change. At first sight, recent advances in recommender system domain ensure personalised service and assistance of a user in decision-making process. However, traditional recommender systems lack the consideration of health-related factors (e.g., healthy diet guidelines, foodallergies, etc.). Moreover, instead of recommending a new item (recipe), an effective system should apply persuasion strategies to accompany a user in a long process, a little step at a time. Furthermore, most of existing recommender models do not take privacy preservation into account. In this position paper, we outline the challenges faced by a persuasive system for promoting eating habits and discuss our vision on the implementation of adaptive and privacy-aware persuasive strategies for healthy food promotion.

Research assessment reform is crucial for the social sustainability of research infrastructures (RIs): RIs can only thrive in the long term if the researchers who contribute to their development and growth receive academic credit for the kind of work they do in and around research infrastructures. To put it bluntly, research infrastructures have a vested interest in supporting the reform of research assessment. But, conversely, ongoing attempts to reform research assessment can also benefit from the work of research infrastructures because RIs have a great deal of experience creating and maintaining public services for producing, curating and harvesting both traditional and non-traditional academic outputs. The goal of this paper is to outline DARIAH’s position on the importance of research assessment reform for thematic RIs and the importance of thematic RIs for research assessment reform at the European level.

What challenges does international law face in dealing with the ecological crisis? Can the actors, the rules, the tools for implementing international law evolve to contribute effectively to the resolution of socio-environmental problems? In order to respond to the ambitious command of the International Law Association to the Working Groups, the group that drafted the White paper on Anthropocene, coordinated by Sandrine Maljean-Dubois, undertook a very useful exercise in anticipation. While international law has a role to play, we cannot expect everything from it. It is not so much a revolution in values as a multiplication of changes in governance practices that could lead to the timely consideration of ecological preservation through international law.; À quels défis le droit international est-il confronté pour faire face à la crise écologique ? Les acteurs, les règles, les outils de mise en œuvre du droit international peuvent-ils évoluer pour contribuer efficacement à la résolution des problèmes socio-environnementaux ? Pour répondre à la commande ambitieuse de l’Association de Droit International aux groupes de travail sur le droit international de demain, l’équipe de rédaction du Livre Blanc sur l’anthropocène, coordonnée par Sandrine Maljean-Dubois, s’est livrée à un exercice d’anticipation fort utile. Si le droit international a un rôle à jouer, on ne peut pas tout en attendre. C’est moins une révolution des valeurs qu’une multiplication de changements de pratiques en matière de gouvernance, qui pourront conduire à une prise en compte, en temps utile, de la préservation écologique par le droit international.

Analysing the available data relative to the anisotropies of the ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECR) at intermediate angular scales, we examine to what extent they can be used to constrain the origin of these particles, and what could be gained from a new generation of observatories with increased exposure. We simulate realistic UHECR sky maps for a wide range of scenarios, with the assumption that the distribution of UHECR sources follows that of matter in the Universe, also considering possible biases. We produce numerous datasets on which we apply similar analyses as those recently used by the Auger and TA collaborations. We find that: i) the investigated scenarios can easily account for the significance of the anisotropies reported by Auger and TA; ii) the direction in which the maximum flux excess is found in the Auger data differs from where it is found in most of our simulations; iii) for datasets simulated with the same astrophysical scenario, the significance with which the isotropy hypothesis is rejected through the Auger likelihood analysis can be largest either when "all galaxies" or when "starburst" galaxies are used to model the signal, depending on which GMF model is used; iv) the study of the energy evolution of the anisotropy patterns can provide new insight about the origin of UHECRs; v) the direction in which the most significant flux excess is found in the Auger dataset above 8 EeV appears to essentially disappear in the dataset above 32 EeV; vi) this appears to be very uncommon in our simulations, which could point to a failure of some generic assumption in the investigated scenarios, such as the predominance of a unique type of sources in the flux above the ankle, with essentially the same composition and spectrum; vii) a meaningful measurement of their energy evolution, from 10 EeV to the highest energies, will require a significant increase in statistics., Comment: 28 pages, 23 figures

Quelle structure, quel contenu, et quelle différence avec un article« normal » ? Le module proposera une définition et analysera les data papers dans le contexte de la scienceouverte, posera la question des liens avec les entrepôts de données et les plateformes de revues, et évoquera lesenjeux des métadonnées et, d’une manière plus générale, des principes FAIR. Dans quel mesure les data paperscontribuent-ils à la « FAIRisation » des données de recherche ? Quel est le développement des data papers, enparticulier en SHS ? Quelles sont leurs perspectives, quelles sont les questions ouvertes ? Le module s’appuie surune revue de littérature, sur des analyses scientométriques et conceptuelles, sur plusieurs événements dont laconférence DH Nord 2021 à Lille et sur une expérience pratique en tant qu’auteur, peer reviewer et rédacteur.

La conversion au format XML-TEI et l’engagement vers des « FAIRdata » permettent un usage élargi des données.

In 1923, the Philosophical Transactions published G. I. Taylor’s seminal paper on the stability of what we now call Taylor–Couette flow. In the century since the paper was published, Taylor’s ground-breaking linear stability analysis of fluid flow between two rotating cylinders has had an enormous impact on the field of fluid mechanics. The paper’s influence has extended to general rotating flows, geophysical flows and astrophysical flows, not to mention its significance in firmly establishing several foundational concepts in fluid mechanics that are now broadly accepted. This two-part issue includes review articles and research articles spanning a broad range of contemporary research areas, all rooted in Taylor’s landmark paper. This article is part of the theme issue ‘Taylor–Couette and related flows on the centennial of Taylor’s seminal Philosophical Transactions paper (part 1)’.

Recent empirical analysis of income distributions are often limited by the exclusive availability of data in a grouped format. This data format is made particularly restrictive by a lack of information on the underlying grouping mechanism and sampling variability of the grouped-data statistics it contains. These restrictions often result in the unavailability of an analytical parametric likelihood function exploiting all information available in the grouped data. Building on recent methods for inference on parametric income distributions for this type of data, this paper explores a new Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC) approach. ABC overcomes the restrictions posed by grouped data for Bayesian inference through a non-parametric approximation of the likelihood function exploiting simulated data from the income distribution model. Empirical applications of the proposed ABC method in both simulated and World Bank's PovCalNet data illustrate the performance and suitability of the method for the typical formats of grouped data on incomes.

Since its discovery in 1987, the monumental basin of Bibracte questions archeologists because of its atypical orientation that was thought not to follow the way on which it lies. We study 4 archeoastronomical papers dealing with the orientation of the short and long axes on the sun rise at winter solstice or on peculiar stars and we discuss the validity of these hypotheses., Depuis sa découverte en 1987, le bassin monumental du site archéologique de Bibracte interroge les archéologues de par son orientation atypique dont on pensait qu'elle ne suivait pas la voie sur laquelle il est sis. Nous étudions 4 publications archéoastronomiques traitant de l'orientation du petit axe et du grand axe sur le lever du Soleil au solstice d'hiver ou sur des étoiles particulières et nous discutons la validité de ces hypothèses.

Témoignant du peu de travaux ethnographiques et historiques publiés au sujet du démariage en Ouzbékistan lors des dernières décennies, ce working paper interroge l’hypothèse selon laquelle l’accroissement des démariages répondrait principalement à l’individualisme et à la redéfinition des attentes affectives et conjugales de la jeunesse dans un contexte de libéralisation des pratiques économiques. Revenant sur le cadre juridique islamique qui présidait aux ruptures conjugales jusqu’aux deux premières décennies du XXe s, il expose certains enjeux économiques du démariage et retrace les transformations du marché matrimonial ouzbek aux ères soviétique et post-soviétique. Présentant le démariage comme une fenêtre pour étudier le devenir des pratiques de consommation, des liens de parenté, des émotions et de la sexualité des Ouzbeks, il donne un court aperçu de ma démarche ethnographique.

Nous retracerons ici les principales orientations de l’action publique introduite ci-dessus tout en se focalisant plus en détail sur les modes de régulation des circuits de financement de l’immobilier locatif. On s’attachera ici à mettre en perspective les politiques publiques introduites depuis 2015 avec leurs effets (potentiels, attribués et réels) sur les quatre circuits de financement distingués dans des travaux antérieurs : financiarisé, défiscalisé, intermédiaire et social (Halbert, 2018). Cette mise en perspective consistera notamment à examiner si l’action publique menée durant les six dernières années constitue une « accélération des tendances anciennes » (Driant, 2020) comme le retrait étatique du financement du logement social (Pollard, 2018) avec un approfondissement de la dépendance des politiques du logement social aux mécanismes de valorisation foncière et immobilière (Gimat et Halbert). Par ailleurs, ce working paper met en lumière les dynamiques relatives à trois idées ayant fait l’objet d’une attention particulière des acteurs des politiques publiques du logement depuis 2015.

International audience; We use the focused proof system LJF as a framework for describing term structures and substitution. Since the proof theory of LJF does not pick a canonical polarization for primitive types, two different approaches to term representation arise. When primitive types are given the negative polarity, LJF proofs encode terms as tree-like structures in a familiar fashion. In this situation, cut elimination also yields the familiar notion of substitution. On the other hand, when primitive types are given the positive polarity, LJF proofs yield a structure in which explicit sharing of term structures is possible. Such a representation of terms provides an explicit method for sharing term structures. In this setting, cut elimination yields a different notion of substitution. We illustrate these two approaches to term representation by applying them to the encoding of untyped λ-terms. We also exploit concurrency theory techniques-namely traces and simulation-to compare untyped λ-terms using such different structuring disciplines.

Electron Ion Collider (EIC) is a particle accelerator facility planned for construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York by the United States Department of Energy. EIC will provide capabilities of colliding beams of polarized electrons with polarized beams of proton and light ions. EIC will be one of the largest and most sophisticated new accelerator facilities worldwide, and the only new large-scale accelerator facility planned for construction in the United States in the next few decades. The versatility, resolving power and intensity of EIC will present many new opportunities to address some of the crucial and fundamental open scientific questions in particle physics. International audience; Dans un cahier exécutable, nous décrivions les données produites par une série d’outils adaptables construits pour retrouver les mots employés dans une page d’un site web. Pour dépasser à terme les techniques de référencement actuelles, l’objectif était de disposer d’un instrument capable de réduire les contenus textuels d’une page web, expurgée des balises HTML et codes informatiques, en un lexique afin de pouvoir saisir le sens global porté par la page. Pour apporter une finesse sémantique, le lexique est lemmatisé et séparé selon les catégories grammaticales (verbe : actions, nom : champ nominal, adjectifs et adverbes : intensité, temporalité, etc.). Les ensembles de données obtenues sont alors combinés pour être représentés en nuages de mots paramétrables afin d’accompagner une lecture distante. Les données collectées dans l’environnement web du Parc National de Port-Cros, sont agrégées selon une typologie de sites. Les traitements et représentations montrent l’intérêt et la pertinence de cette instrumentation pour comparer les lexiques véhiculés par des pages. La sauvegarde de ces extractions ainsi que toute la chaîne de production est d’intérêt autant pour des travaux en continuité que pour les reproduire dans un cadre pédagogique.

To improve reliability in latency-critical applications, a point-to-point communication system with heterogeneous decoding deadlines is considered. Unlike existing work, this system allows for a message to arrive before the decoding deadline of a prior message. A new coding scheme with finite blocklength codewords is introduced exploiting the dirty paper coding principle. Rigorous bounds are derived for achievable error probabilities. Moreover, numerical results illustrate that the proposed scheme outperforms time sharing for a wide range of blocklengths.
