As bibliometric approaches are increasingly a focus of literature reviews across different business disciplines, we apply a bibliometric approach to a review of bibliometric studies in finance, assessing 121 bibliometric studies. We identify four literature clusters: studies focusing on assessments of literature in trending topics; analysis of papers that employ emerging econometric techniques; studies grouped around particular fundamental topics such as market dynamics, behavioral finance, and corporate governance; and studies focused on retrospective celebration of single well-known finance journals. We identify which countries, institutions, and scholars have been being particularly influential. Results suggest that the field of economics has been more comfortable publishing bibliometric studies than finance. Results also identify the mainstream finance journals that are particularly leading in publishing bibliometric studies, with results showing that these journals have particularly high-growing scholarly impact. We conclude that bibliometric studies are an important vehicle for highlighting and motivating emerging scholarship.

In vivo studies of hepatic carbohydrate metabolism in (genetically modified) conscious mice are hampered by limitations of blood and urine sample sizes. We developed and validated methods to quantify stable isotope dilution and incorporation in small blood and urine samples spotted onto filter paper. Blood glucose and urinary paracetamol-glucuronic acid were extracted from filter paper spots reproducibly and with high yield. Fractional isotopomer distributions of glucose and paracetamol-glucuronic acid when extracted from filter paper spots were almost identical to those isolated from the original body fluids. Rates of infusion of labeled compounds could be adjusted without perturbing hepatic glucose metabolism. This approach was used in mice to find the optimal metabolic condition for the study of hepatic carbohydrate metabolism. In fed mice, no isotopic steady state was observed during a 6-h label-infusion experiment. In 9-h-fasted mice, isotopic steady state was reached after 3 h of label infusion and important parameters in hepatic glucose metabolism could be calculated. The rate of de novo glucose-6-phosphate synthesis was 143 +/- 17 mumol kg(-1) min(-1) and partitioning to plasma glucose was 79.0 +/- 5.2%. In 24-h-fasted mice, abrupt changes were noticed in whole body and in hepatic glucose metabolism at the end of the experiment. (C) 2003 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Wastewater containing toxic substances is a major threat to the health of both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. In order to treat wastewater, nanomaterials are currently being studied intensively due to their unprecedented properties. The unique features of nanoparticles are prompting an increasing number of studies into their use in wastewater treatment. Although several studies have been undertaken in recent years, most of them did not focus on some of the nanomaterials that are now often utilized for wastewater treatment. It is essential to investigate the most recent advances in all the types of nanomaterials that are now frequently employed for wastewater treatment. The recent advancements in common nanomaterials used for sustainable wastewater treatment is comprehensively reviewed in this paper. This paper also thoroughly assesses unique features, proper utilization, future prospects, and current limitations of green nanotechnology in wastewater treatment. Zero-valent metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, especially iron oxides were shown to be more effective than traditional carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for recovering heavy metals in wastewater. Iron oxide achieved 75.9% COD (chemical oxygen demand) removal efficiency while titanium oxide (TiO2) achieved 75.5% COD. Iron nanoparticles attained 72.1% methyl blue removal efficiency. However, since only a few types of nanomaterials have been commercialized, it is important to also focus on the economic feasibility of each nanomaterial. This study found that the large surface area, high reactivity, and strong mechanical properties of nanoparticles means they can be considered as a promising option for successful wastewater treatment.

This paper is devoted to an investigation of blow-up phenomena occurring in high-contrast fiber-reinforced composites. When the distance between perfect conductors or between the conductors and the matrix boundary tends to zero, the electric field may appear blow-up. The major objective of this paper is to give a precise description for the singular behavior of such a high concentration in the presence of C 1 , α -inclusions with extreme conductivities. Our results contain the boundary and interior asymptotics of the concentrated field in all dimensions. In particular, the blow-up factor for each dimension is accurately captured.

This paper exploits a unique set of Dutch micro data between 2006 and 2014 to analyze the heterogeneous responses in prepayment behavior to changes in financial incentives. Prepayment is defined as paying back a part of the mortgage on top of the contractual payment schedule, excluding refinancing. Because interest rates on savings have decreased while the rates on existing mortgages are generally fixed for some years, the value of prepaying a mortgage has increased. This corresponds with the surge in prepayments at the Dutch mortgage market. Using various econometric specifications, that take into account unobserved heterogeneity and endogeneity, the paper finds that incentives to prepay explain only a part of prepayment behavior. However, incentives to prepay explain a much larger part of prepayments for wealthier households and for households with a high net-of-tax interest rate differential.

Numerous scientific studies, applying different approaches, have provided evidence of the links between the environment and people's health. Green spaces have been the subject of research aimed at exploring their benefits as components of the urban environment. We investigated possible causal relationships between green spaces and health, with the aim of addressing the following question. Does the mere material presence of green spaces contribute to the health of people who live in its vicinity, or are the health-promoting qualities of green spaces attributed to the ability of people to actually see, access, and enjoy them? The latter view highlights the relational dimension of places, and it entails personal relationships with places which are imbued with psychological meaning and significance for those who visit and experience them. We reviewed relevant literature, comprising a total of 189 papers on this topic that have been published over the first two decades of this century. Our findings showed that the material aspects of green spaces, such as their abundance and proximity to residences, received much more attention in studies than their quality and characteristics. However, relational rather than material measures of green spaces demonstrated statistically greater positive impacts of green spaces on health. These findings indicate that both sensory stimuli and activities and feelings attached to green spaces are essential for better health outcomes. Incorporating a relational perspective of green place-thinking into the existing literature on green spaces and health could contribute to optimizing the positive effects of green spaces and thus to the creation of healthy and livable cities.

MR fingerprinting (MRF) is a promising method for quantitative characterization of tissues. Often, voxel-wise measurements are made, assuming a single tissue-type per voxel. Alternatively, the Sparsity Promoting Iterative Joint Non-negative least squares Multi-Component MRF method (SPIJN-MRF) facilitates tissue parameter estima-tion for identified components as well as partial volume segmentations. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the accuracy and repeatability of the SPIJN-MRF parameter estimations and partial volume segmentations. This was done (1) through numerical simulations based on the BrainWeb phantoms and (2) using in vivo acquired MRF data from 5 subjects that were scanned on the same week-day for 8 consecutive weeks. The partial volume segmen-tations of the SPIJN-MRF method were compared to those obtained by two conventional methods: SPM12 and FSL. SPIJN-MRF showed higher accuracy in simulations in comparison to FSL-and SPM12-based segmentations: Fuzzy Tanimoto Coefficients (FTC) comparing these segmentations and Brainweb references were higher than 0.95 for SPIJN-MRF in all the tissues and between 0.6 and 0.7 for SPM12 and FSL in white and gray matter and between 0.5 and 0.6 in CSF. For the in vivo MRF data, the estimated relaxation times were in line with literature and minimal variation was observed. Furthermore, the coefficient of variation (CoV) for estimated tissue volumes with SPIJN-MRF were 10.5% for the myelin water, 6.0% for the white matter, 5.6% for the gray matter, 4.6% for the CSF and 1.1% for the total brain volume. CoVs for CSF and total brain volume measured on the scanned data for SPIJN-MRF were in line with those obtained with SPM12 and FSL. The CoVs for white and gray mat-ter volumes were distinctively higher for SPIJN-MRF than those measured with SPM12 and FSL. In conclusion, the use of SPIJN-MRF provides accurate and precise tissue relaxation parameter estimations taking into account intrinsic partial volume effects. It facilitates obtaining tissue fraction maps of prevalent tissues including myelin water which can be relevant for evaluating diseases affecting the white matter.

Most interesting examples of optimal line packings are achieving equality in some of the known lower bounds for coherence. In this paper two infinite families of real and complex biangular line packings are presented. New packings achieve equality in the real or complex second Levenshtein bound respectively. Both infinite families are constructed by analyzing well known representations of the finite groups SL(2,Fq). Until now the only known infinite families meeting the second Levenshtein bounds were related to the maximal sets of mutually unbiased bases (MUB). Similarly to the line packings related to the maximal sets of MUBs, the line packings presented here are related to the maximal sets of mutually unbiased weighing matrices. Another similarity is that the new packings are projective 2-designs. The latter property together with sufficiently large cardinalities of the new packings implies some improvement on largest known cardinalities ofreal and complex biangular tight frames.

The cognitive architecture ACT-R is at the same time a psychological theory and a modeling framework for constructing cognitive models that adhere to the principles of the theory. ACT-R can be used in combination with fMRI data in two different ways: (1) fMRI data can be used to evaluate and constrain models in ACT-R by means of predefined Region-of-Interest (ROI) analysis, and (2) predictions from ACT-R models can be used to locate neural correlates of model processes and representations by means of model based fMRI analysis. In this paper we provide a step-by-step tutorial on both approaches. Note that this tutorial neither teaches the ACT-R theory in any detail, nor fMRI analysis, but explains how ACT-R can be used in combination with fMRI data. To this end, we provide all data and computer code necessary to run the ACT-R model, carry out the analyses, and recreate the figures in the paper. As an example dataset we use a relatively simple algebra task. In the first section, we develop an ACT-R model of this task and fit it to behavioral data. In the second section, we apply a predefined ROI-analysis to evaluate the model using fMRI data. In the third section, we use model-based fMRI analysis to locate the following processes in the brain: retrieval of mathematical facts from memory, working memory updates, motor responses, and visually encoding the problems. After working through this tutorial, the reader will have learned what can be achieved with the two different analysis methods and how they are conducted; the example code can then be adapted to a new dataset. This paper is devoted to deformations of Lagrangian submanifolds contained in the singular locus of a log-symplectic manifold. We prove a normal form result for the log-symplectic structure around such a Lagrangian, which we use to extract algebraic and geometric information about the Lagrangian deformations. We show that the deformation problem is governed by a DGLA, we discuss whether the Lagrangian admits deformations not contained in the singular locus, and we give precise criteria for unobstructedness of first order deformations. We also address equivalences of deformations, showing that the gauge equivalence relation of the DGLA corresponds with the geometric notion of equivalence by Hamiltonian isotopies. We discuss the corresponding moduli space, and we prove a rigidity statement for the more flexible equivalence relation by Poisson isotopies., 66 pages. Norms, behaviors, beliefs, and preferences have been accepted as some of the most important determinants of financial development. In this paper, as a contribution to the literature, we ask whether patience plays a role in promoting financial development. Our cross-country empirical results show that patience is positively and significantly associated with financial development. Our results are quite robust for stock market development. However, the effect of patience on banking sector development loses its significance once the quality of institutions is controlled. Our results imply that patience has more direct and decisive effects on stock market development.

We investigate how investor perceptions about the financial health of twenty-seven bank holding companies that controlled eighty percent of US banking assets at year-end 2006 changed during major events leading to the collapse of Lehman Brothers. We use the event study method to investigate whether and to what extent investors priced major events before the Lehman bankruptcy. Abnormal returns on the event days range from -9.25 to 4.80%. When the Federal Reserve Bank of New York is authorized to lend to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac on 13 July 2008, sample bank holding companies average the lowest abnormal returns of -9.25. When the Federal Housing Agency places Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac under government conservatorship on 7 September 2008, abnormal returns average the highest at 4.80. Seizure severity in experimental models of epilepsy is often evaluated by means of the Racine scale, in spite of the use of seizure induction methods that are different from those of the original paper by Racine in 1972. In such cases, the use of this scale is not always justified because some seizure behaviors are significantly different from those originally described or not present at all. Correspondingly, the pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) model, which is frequently used for antiepileptic drug research, lacked an adequate assessment tool to measure seizure severity. In 2009, an adapted intensity scale for PTZ-induced seizures was already designed for rats. Here, we evaluated electroencephalographic (EEG) and behavioral parameters after a single PTZ injection, to determine whether this scale is also suitable for use in mouse studies. We found that the scale designed for rats is quite robust and can thus be applied to score seizure severity in mice. Yet, certain convulsive behaviors and EEG characteristics were distinct between species. Therefore, a species-specific scale was designed, which included the concomitant EEG characteristic next to the behavioral expressions we observed, in order to establish a user-friendly scoring scale for PTZ-induced seizures in mice. To evaluate applicability, we utilized the scale in a seizure susceptibility study of a transgenic mouse model. We demonstrated that the maximum severity scores obtained with the newly revised Racine scale highly correlated with the administered dose. Pyrimidine dimers of cyclobutane type were found in the RNA of tobacco mosaic virus when irradiated free (about 1.0 per photoreactivable lesion), but not in the RNA irradiated inside the virus. As the photoreactivable kind of lethal damage is known to occur only in the free RNA, the occurrence of this kind of damage coincides with the formation of the dimers.

Poor cycling stability and low volumetric capacity of sulfur cathode prevents practical application of Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. Herein, we demonstrate a strategy to address the two drawbacks of sulfur cathode by synthesizing a compact and flexible film cathode with bilayer structure using a two-step vacuum filtration method. Two layers make up the sulfur cathode, active layer (sulfur-acethlene black (S-C) spheres) and barrier layer (three dimensional MnO2-graphene oxide-multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MnO2-GO-CNTs) composites), which are integrated together by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) through self-binding. The rGO sheets provide an electrical conductive framework and a stable architecture to accommodate volume changes of sulfur. S-C spheres stacked orderly between the rGO layers facilitate fast Li+ storage and energy release. Polar MnO2-GO-CNTs composites with large specific surface area have not only afforded efficient sites for chemically binding polysulfides, but also provided fast electron trans-fer for accelerating polysulfides redox reaction. Consequently, the integrated film cathode exhibits an unprecedented cycling stability of similar to 0.0279% capacity decay per cycle over more than 600 cycles at 1C and high volumetric capacity of 1021.9 Ah L-1 at 2C. Meanwhile, a foldable Li-S battery based on this flexible cathode is fabricated and shows excellent mechanical and electrochemical properties. This paper explores the impact of environmental, e.g. sea level rise, and climatic events, e.g. abrupt cooling events, on Mesolithic populations (ca. 11,350 to 6600 cal BP) living in the western Scheldt basin of Belgium and Northern France. The Mesolithic in this study-area has been extensively studied during the last few decades, leading to an extensive database of radiocarbon dates (n = 418), sites (n = 157) and excavated loci (n = 145). A multi-proxy analysis of this database reveals important changes both chronologically and geographically, which are interpreted in terms of population dynamics and changing mobility and land-use. The results suggest a population peak and high residential mobility in the Early Mesolithic, followed by a population shift and increased intra-basin mobility in the Middle Mesolithic, possibly triggered by the rapid inundation of the North Sea basin. The situation during the Late Mesolithic remains less clear but a possible reduction in the mobility seems likely. Currently there is little evidence supporting a causal link between these diachronic changes in human behavior and the 9.3 and 8.2 ka cooling events. Most of the observed changes seem more in response to long-term climatic and environmental changes during the Early and Middle Holocene, hinting at considerable resilience.

This research focuses on ambivalence in family networks and presents a framework for investigating how triadic configurations, beyond specific dyads, may affect individual outcomes such as well-being. First, the paper introduces the ambivalent triad census, counting the frequencies of 18 non-isomorphic triads in which ties can be positive, negative, or ambivalent, in non-directed networks, and proposes the linear combinations of three theoretical mechanisms (ambivalent balance, diffusion of stress, divide and conquer) predicting how embeddedness in an ambivalent triad may affect individual well-being. Second, the ambivalent triad census is applied to 300 non-directed family networks, 150 stepfamilies and 150 first-time families, in which mothers reported about the relationships with and between family members. Results show that mothers embedded in triads exhibiting more ambivalent balance and less diffusion of stress score higher on social self-esteem. The study emphasizes the importance of studying ambivalence in higher-level relational structures, such as triads, in families.

Green synthesis approaches of nanomaterials (NMs) have received considerable attention in recent years as it addresses the sustainability issues posed by conventional synthesis methods. However, recent works of literature do not present the complete picture of biogenic NMs. This paper addresses the previous gaps by providing insights into the stability and toxicity of NMs, critically reviewing the various biological agents and solvents required for synthesis, sheds light on the factors that affect biosynthesis, and outlines the applications of NMs across various sectors. Despite the advantages of green synthesis, current methods face challenges with safe and appropriate solvent selection, process parameters that affect the synthesis process, nanomaterial cytotoxicity, bulk production and NM morphology control, tedious maintenance, and knowledge deficiencies. Consequently, the green synthesis of NMs is largely trapped in the laboratory phase. Nevertheless, the environmental friendliness, biocompatibility, and sensitivities of the resulting NMs have wider applications in biomedical science, environmental remediation, and consumer industries. To the scale-up application of biogenic NMs, future research should be focused on understanding the mechanisms of the synthesis processes, identifying more biological and chemical agents that can be used in synthesis, and developing the practicality of green synthesis at the industrial scale, and optimizing the factors affecting the synthesis process.

This paper examines the price impact of the herding behaviour of short- and long-horizon institutional investors. We categorize the institutional herding as same-side herding when both types of institutions herd on the buy-side or sell-side together and as opposite-side herding when short-horizon institutions buy while the long-horizon institutions sell or vice versa. We find that the previously documented destabilizing impact of long-horizon institutional herding is only observed on opposite-side herding. Moreover, short-horizon institutional herding improves the stock price discovery process confirming the belief that they are more informed.

Competing theories have posited roles for foetal androgen exposure in the development of human handedness. However, due to practical and ethical considerations, few studies have used hormonal measures to examine this possibility. The current paper reviews this literature and reveals a generally inconsistent pattern of results. We also present data from a longitudinal study of prenatal sex hormone exposure and subsequent handedness. More specifically, we examine correlations between testosterone and estradiol measured from second trimester amniotic fluid and hand preference (Dutch language version of the Edinburgh Handedness Inventory) and hand skill asymmetry (pegboard task) measured at 15 years of age. Prenatal sex hormone exposure was not associated with the direction of hand preference in either males or females. However, in females, high levels of prenatal testosterone were associated with weaker lateralisation of hand skill, and high levels of prenatal estradiol were associated with weaker hand preference. In addition, high levels of prenatal testosterone were associated with increased task duration (i.e., slow hand speed) for the right and left hands of males. The pattern of results observed here is not entirely consistent with any of the main theories linking sex hormones with handedness, suggesting that an association between these variables may be more complex than initially thought.

The aim of this paper is to provide a concise summary of findings from outcome studies in early-treated phenylketonuria (PKU). The paper should not be considered as an extensive review of the many different outcome measures that have been used in PKU-research, but as an attempt to integrate such findings so that they will be of additional value for day to day monitoring of PKU-patients and may direct future research to fill the present gaps of knowledge. Neurological, neuropsychological, neurophysiological, neuroimaging, quality of life, and psychosocial findings will be discussed in the context of their potential contributions to lifelong follow-up and treatment of PKU-patients being summarized in statements. This paper is devoted to the study of domain of a recently defined conservative matrix in the spaces of p-absolutely summable sequences and bounded sequences. The aforementioned matrix is obtained by using the fascinating Catalan numbers. After determining the beta-duals of the newly defined Banach spaces, the characterization of some matrix operators are obtained. We introduce a new method of multi-scale analysis that can be used to study the spectral properties of operators in non-relativistic quantum electrodynamics with critical coupling functions. We utilize our method to prove the existence of resonances of nonrelativistic atoms which are minimally coupled to the quantized (ultraviolet-regularized) radiation field and construct them together with the corresponding resonance eigenvector in case of critical coupling, i.e., without any infrared regularization. This result was first proved in [19] with the ingredient of a suitable Pauli-Fierz transformation. The purpose of the present paper, however, is to demonstrate the power of our new method for the estimation of resolvents that is based on the isospectral Feshbach-Schur map [8] . The reconstruction formula for the resolvent of an operator in terms of the resolvent of its image under the Feshbach-Schur map allows us to use a fixed projection and to compare two resolvents without actually decimating the degrees of freedom. This is in contrast to the renormalization group based on Feshbach-Schur map, developed in [8] , [5] , that uses a decreasing sequence of ever-smaller projections and successively decimates the degrees of freedom. It is this new method that allows us to treat the critical and physically relevant Standard model of non-relativistic quantum electrodynamics [7] which is intractable by standard methods.

Smoke-free legislation reduced second-hand smoke (SHS) exposure in public places, and indirectly promoted private smoke-free settings. Nevertheless, a large proportion of adults is still exposed to SHS at home. The aim of this paper is to quantify the burden of disease due to home SHS exposure among adults in the 28-European Union (EU) countries for year 2017. The burdens by gender from lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), breast cancer, ischemic heart disease (IHD), stroke, asthma, and diabetes were estimated in an original research analysis using the comparative risk assessment method. Relative risks of death/diseases by gender for adults exposed to SHS at home compared to not exposed ones were estimated updating existing meta-analyses. Prevalence of home SHS exposure by gender was estimated using a multiple imputation procedure based on Eurobarometer surveys. Data on mortality and disability adjusted life years (DALYs) were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease, Injuries and Risk Factors Study. In 2017, 526,000 DALYs (0.36% of total DALYs) and 24,000 deaths (0.46% of total deaths) were attributable to home SHS exposure in the 28-EU countries, mainly from COPD and IHD. South-Eastern EU countries showed the highest burden, with proportion of DALYs/deaths attributable to SHS exposure on total higher than 0.50%/ 0.70%, whereas northern EU-countries showed the lowest burden, with proportions of DALYs/deaths lower than 0.25%/0.34%. The burden from SHS exposure is still significant in EU countries. More could be done to raise awareness of the health risks associated with SHS exposure at home.

Let $\mu$ be a probability measure on $\mathbb{T}$ that is singular with respect to the Haar measure. In this paper we study Fourier expansions in $L^2(\mathbb{T},\mu)$ using techniques from the theory of model subspaces of the Hardy space. Since the sequence of monomials $\{z^n\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ is effective in $L^2(\mathbb{T},\mu)$, it has a Parseval frame associated via the Kaczmarz algorithm. Our first main goal is to identify the aforementioned frame with boundary values of the frame $P_\varphi(z^n)$ for the model subspace $\mathcal{H}(\varphi)= H^2 \ominus \varphi H^2$, where $P_\varphi$ is the orthogonal projection from the Hardy space $H^2$ onto $\mathcal{H}(\varphi)$. The study of Fourier expansions in $L^2(\mathbb{T},\mu)$ also leads to consider positive kernels in the Hardy space. Our second main goal is to study the set of measures $\mu$ which reproduce a kernel contained in a model subspace. Biometric systems have the goal of measuring and analyzing the unique physical or behavioral characteristics of an individual. The main feature of biometric systems is the use of bodily structures with distinctive characteristics. In the literature, there are biometric systems that use physiological features (fingerprint, iris, palm print, face, etc.) as well as systems that use behavioral characteristics (signature, walking, speech patterns, facial dynamics, etc.) Recently, facial biometrics has been one of the most preferred biometric data since it generally does not require the cooperation of the user and can be obtained without violating the personal private space. In this paper, the methods used to obtain and classify facial biometric data in the literature have been summarized. We give a taxonomy of image-based and video-based face recognition methods, outline the major historical developments, and the main processing steps. Popular data sets that have been used for face recognition by researchers are also reviewed. Transferable utility (TU) is a widely used assumption in economics. In this paper, we weaken the TU property to a setting where distinct Pareto frontiers have empty intersections. We call this the no-intersection property (NIP). We show that the NIP is strictly weaker than TU, but still allows to derive several desirable properties. We discuss the NIP in relation to several models where TU has turned out to be a key assumption: models of assortative matching, principal-agent models with asymmetric information, the Coase Independence Property and Becker's Rotten Kid Theorem.

The antioxidant and CB receptor agonist properties of Δ-tetrahydrocannabivarin (Δ-THCV) afforded neuroprotection in experimental Parkinson's disease (PD), whereas its CB receptor antagonist profile at doses lower than 5 mg/kg caused anti-hypokinetic effects. In the present study, we investigated the anti-dyskinetic potential of Δ-THCV (administered i.p. at 2 mg/kg for two weeks), which had not been investigated before. This objective was investigated after inducing dyskinesia by repeated administration of L-DOPA (i.p. at 10 mg/kg) in a genetic model of dopaminergic deficiency, Pitx3 mutant mice, which serves as a useful model for testing anti-dyskinetic agents. The daily treatment of these mice with L-DOPA for two weeks progressively increased the time spent in abnormal involuntary movements (AIMs) and elevated their horizontal and vertical activities (as measured in a computer-aided actimeter), signs that reflected the dyskinetic state of these mice. Interestingly, when combined with L-DOPA from the first injection, Δ-THCV delayed the appearance of all these signs and decreased their intensity, with a reduction in the levels of FosB protein and the histone pAcH3 (measured by immunohistochemistry), which had previously been found to be elevated in the basal ganglia in L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia. In addition to the anti-dyskinetic effects of Δ-THCV when administered at the onset of L-DOPA treatment, Δ-THCV was also effective in attenuating the intensity of dyskinesia when administered for three consecutive days once these signs were already present (two weeks after the onset of L-DOPA treatment). In summary, our data support the anti-dyskinetic potential of Δ-THCV, both to delay the occurrence and to attenuate the magnitude of dyskinetic signs. Exceptional orthogonal polynomials are complete families of orthogonal polynomials that arise as eigenfunctions of a Sturm-Liouville problem. Antonio Dur\'an discovered a gap in the original proof of completeness for exceptional Hermite polynomials, that has propagated to analogous results for other exceptional families. In this paper we provide an alternative proof that follows essentially the same arguments, but provides a direct proof of the key lemma on which the completeness proof is based. In linear regression problems with many predictors, penalized regression techniques are often used to guard against overfitting and to select variables relevant for predicting an outcome variable. Recently, Bayesian penalization is becoming increasingly popular in which the prior distribution performs a function similar to that of the penalty term in classical penalization. Specifically, the so-called shrinkage priors in Bayesian penalization aim to shrink small effects to zero while maintaining true large effects. Compared to classical penalization techniques, Bayesian penalization techniques perform similarly or sometimes even better, and they offer additional advantages such as readily available uncertainty estimates, automatic estimation of the penalty parameter, and more flexibility in terms of penalties that can be considered. However, many different shrinkage priors exist and the available, often quite technical, literature primarily focuses on presenting one shrinkage prior and often provides comparisons with only one or two other shrinkage priors. This can make it difficult for researchers to navigate through the many prior options and choose a shrinkage prior for the problem at hand. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of the literature on Bayesian penalization. We provide a theoretical and conceptual comparison of nine different shrinkage priors and parametrize the priors, if possible, in terms of scale mixture of normal distributions to facilitate comparisons. We illustrate different characteristics and behaviors of the shrinkage priors and compare their performance in terms of prediction and variable selection in a simulation study. Additionally, we provide two empirical examples to illustrate the application of Bayesian penalization. Finally, an R package bayesreg is available online (https://github.com/sara-vanerp/bayesreg) which allows researchers to perform Bayesian penalized regression with novel shrinkage priors in an easy manner.

A low-dissipation simulation method is used to perform simulations of transitional aerodynamic flow over a delta wing. For an accurate simulation of such a flow, numerical conservation of important physical quantities is desirable. In particular, the discretization of the convective terms of the Navier-Stokes equations should not spuriously generate or dissipate kinetic energy, because this can interfere with the transition to turbulent flow. Conservation of discrete kinetic energy by the discretized convective terms can be achieved by writing the Navier--Stokes equations in square-root variables, which results in a skew-symmetric convective term. In the paper, simulations with such a low-dissipation method are presented at chord Reynolds numbers around 200,000. The results show good agreement with experimental measurements.

WOS: 000372393100020, The lifting style biorthogonal wavelet implementation has a nice property of enabling flexible design; it is immediately reversible and has a simple relation to subband filters. In this work, we present a method to design prediction (P) and update (U) filters of two-channel lifting structures by minimising the difference between Block Wavelet Transform (BWT) matrix of the wavelet and the Karhunen-Loeve Transform (KLT) of a stochastic process with certain autocorrelation. Here, BWTs are transform matrices that are generated by constructing columns through balanced wavelet trees fed by shifted impulse trains. Although wavelets already have fast implementations through subband filtering or lifting, parametric optimisation of the filter coefficients is still possible through indirectly mimicking the corresponding wavelet and a class of signals with certain KLT. This paper describes the above optimisation by putting constraints on the P and U filters for regularity and constructing the filter coefficients in a least-squares sense. In this part of the paper, the iterated orthogonality constraint over the BWT is resolved with a generalised 12k + 1-tap/6k + 1-tap P U construction with numerical results for the 4 x 4 and 8 x 8 BWT cases. This is the third in a series of three papers on quantum billiards with elliptic and ellipsoidal boundaries. In the present paper we show that the integrable billiard inside a prolate ellipsoid has an isolated singular point in its bifurcation diagram and, therefore, exhibits classical and quantum monodromy. We derive the monodromy matrix from the requirement of smoothness for the action variables for zero angular momentum. The smoothing procedure is illustrated in terms of energy surfaces in action space including the corresponding smooth frequency map. The spectrum of the quantum billiard is computed numerically and the expected change in the basis of the lattice of quantum states is found. The monodromy is already present in the corresponding two-dimensional billiard map. However, the full three degrees of freedom billiard is considered as the system of greater relevance to physics. Therefore, the monodromy is discussed as a truly three-dimensional effect.

We extend the classical model for selection at an autosomal locus in a sex-differentiated population to include segregation distortion. The equations remain the same, but the fitness parameters are interpreted differently and refer to alleles instead of genotypes. We derive conditions for internal and external stability of the equilibria, i.e., stability with respect to perturbations of alleles that are already present at equilibrium and stability with respect to invasion attempts by newly arising alleles. We show that, in a sex-differentiated population, external stability of an equilibrium can be judged on the basis of Shaw-Mohler criteria. Throughout, we compare the situation in populations with and without sex differentiation. Interestingly, internal stability is more difficult to achieve in a population without sex differentiation than in a population in which selection and segregation distortion are restricted to one sex. © 2019 Elsevier Inc. In location-sensitive applications, dishonest users may submit fake location claims to illegally access a service or obtain benefit. To address this issue, a number of location proof mechanisms have been proposed in literature. However, they confront various security and privacy challenges, including Prover–Prover collusions (Terrorist Frauds), Prover–Witness collusions, and location privacy threats. In this paper, we utilize the unique features of the blockchain technology to design a decentralized scheme for location proof generation and verification. In the proposed scheme, a user who needs a location proof (called a prover) broadcasts a request to the neighbor devices through a short-range communication interface, e.g. Bluetooth. Those neighbor devices that decide to respond (called witnesses) start to authenticate the requesting user. We integrate an incentive mechanism into the proposed scheme to reward such witnesses. Upon successful authentication, a transaction is generated as a location proof and is broadcast onto a peer-to-peer network where it can be picked up by verifiers for final verification. Our security analysis shows that the proposed scheme achieves a reliable performance against Prover–Prover and Prover–Witness collusions. Moreover, our prototype implementation on the Android platform shows that the proposed scheme outperforms other currently deployed location proof schemes.

Feature extraction is one of the most important preprocessing steps in predicting the interactions between RNAs and proteins by applying machine learning approaches. Despite many efforts in this area, still, no suitable structural feature extraction tool has been designed. Therefore, an online toolbox, named RPINBASE which can be applied to different scopes of biological applications, is introduced in this paper. This toolbox employs efficient nested queries that enhance the speed of the requests and produces desired features in the form of positive and negative samples. To show the capabilities of the proposed toolbox, the developed toolbox was investigated in the aptamer design problem, and the obtained results are discussed. The concept of Berge equilibria is based on supportive behavior among the players: each player is supported by the group of all other players. In this paper, we extend this concept by maintaining the idea of supportive behavior among the players, but eliminating the underlying coordination issues. We suggest to consider individual support rather than group support. The main idea is to introduce support relations, modeled by derangements. In a derangement, every player supports exactly one other player and every player is supported by exactly one other player. Subsequently, we define a new equilibrium concept, called a unilateral support equilibrium, which is unilaterally supportive with respect to every possible derangement. We show that a unilateral support equilibrium can be characterized in terms of pay-off functions so that every player is supported by every other player individually. Moreover, it is shown that every Berge equilibrium is also a unilateral support equilibrium and we provide an example in which there is no Berge equilibrium, while the set of unilateral support equilibria is non-empty. Finally, the relation between the set of unilateral support equilibria and the set of Nash equilibria is explored.

The automated recognition of facial expressions has been actively researched due to its wide-ranging applications. The recent advances in deep learning have improved the performance facial expression recognition (FER) methods. In this paper, we propose a framework that combines discriminative features learned using convolutional neural networks and handcrafted features that include shape- and appearance-based features to further improve the robustness and accuracy of FER. In addition, texture information is extracted from facial patches to enhance the discriminative power of the extracted textures. By encoding shape, appearance, and deep dynamic information, the proposed framework provides high performance and outperforms state-of-the-art FER methods on the CK+ dataset.

In this paper we study the number of twisted conjugacy classes (the Reidemeister number) for automorphisms of crystallographic groups. We present two main algorithms for crystallographic groups whose holonomy group has finite normaliser in $\operatorname{GL}_n(\mathbb{Z})$. The first algorithm calculates whether a group has the $R_\infty$-property; the second calculates the Reidemeister spectrum. The endocrine system plays a crucial role in regulating the activity of cells and organs among vertebrates, including the class Chondrichthyes. Accordingly, Chondrichthyan endocrinology publications have been steadily increasing in the global literature. However, while interest in South American Chondrichthyan research has been growing over the last 50 years, the field of endocrinology related to Chondrichthyans has been limited. Understanding the trajectory of a scientific discipline assists researchers and stakeholders in making decisions regarding which research areas require further attention. Further, visualisation techniques based on bibliometric analysis of scientific publications assist in understanding fluctuations in the trends of specific research fields over time. In this study, Chondrichthyan research publications over time were analysed by creating visualisation maps using VOSviewer bibliometric software. Trends in South America Chondrichthyan research with an emphasis on endocrinology were explored over a 50-year period (1967–2016). These trends were compared with Chondrichthyans research worldwide for the more recent 15-year period (2002–2016). The number of South America Chondrichthyan scientific publications increased from six during the 1967–1981 period to 112 in 2016. However, only eight papers were found published in the area of Chondrichthyan endocrinology research. Fisheries, reproduction and taxonomy were the dominate research areas in South America over the 50 years. For the more recent 15 years, South American publications comprised 11% of the total literature published globally. While South America research outputs fluctuated closely with global research trends, differences appeared when comparing areas of growth. This study describes the trends in Chondrichthyan research literature globally and more specifically in South America. Although South American countries may never contribute to the same scale as the wider international scientific community, the future of Chondrichthyans would strongly benefit from the contributions of the many diverse research groups around the world. CIELO (Collaborative International Evaluated Library Organization) provides a new working paradigm to facilitate evaluated nuclear reaction data advances. It brings together experts from across the international nuclear reaction data community to identify and document discrepancies among existing evaluated data libraries, measured data, and model calculation interpretations, and aims to make rapid progress in reconciling these discrepancies to create more accurate ENDF-formatted files. Our goal is for this first step to be achieved within three years. The focus will initially be on a small number of the highest-priority isotopes, namely 1H, 16O, 56Fe, 235,238U, and 239Pu. The present paper is a first step to identify discrepancies between various evaluations of the highest priority isotopes, which was commissioned by the OECD's Nuclear Energy Agency WPEC (Working Party on International Nuclear Data Evaluation Co-operation) during a meeting held in May 2012. The evaluated data for these materials in the existing nuclear data libraries - ENDF/B-VII.1, JEFF-3.1, JENDL-4.0, CENDL-3.1, ROSFOND, IRDFF 1.0 - are reviewed, disrepancies are identified, and some integral properties are given. This paper estimates the relationship between agglomeration and multi factor productivity at the one digit industry level and by region using longitudinal firm level data for New Zealand. A key focus of the paper is on methods to represent firm level heterogeneity and non-random sorting of firms. The panel structure of the data allows us to control for it at the level of local industries or enterprises. We obtain a cross-sectional agglomeration elasticity of 0.171, which falls by 70% when we use local industry controls, and by 90% when we impose enterprise fixed effects. Using industry specific production functions, we find that the "within local industry" estimates are similar, though slightly larger than the cross sectional estimates (~0.070), suggesting negative sorting between areas, combined with positive sorting within areas. The within-enterprise estimates yield a small elasticity of 0.010. Our results indicate that the imposition of a common production technology across all industries is not a valid assumption. While cross-sectional estimates may overstate the true impact of agglomeration on productivity in the presence of positive bias from sorting, the within enterprise approach (which is increasingly common in the literature) can suffer from identification problems due to the highly persistent nature of agglomeration variables and may understate the true causal effect of agglomeration on productivity. We thus rely on the "within local industry" estimates as providing the most reliable indication of agglomeration elasticities.

Although statistical term structure models provide exceptional in-sample fitting and out-of-sample forecasting of interest rates, the lack of theoretical background is criticized by academics and practitioners, such as the absent of arbitrage free. In this paper we develop a general Arbitrage-Free NelsonSiegel model under the HJM framework. It features unspanned stochastic volatility factors while maintaining a NelsonSiegel factor loading structure. This paper also exploits the potential to jointly model the interest rates and their derivatives.

The purpose of this paper is to derive some applications of umbral calculus by using extended fermionic p-adic q-integral on Z(p). From those applications, we derive some new interesting properties on the new family of Euler numbers and polynomials. That is, a systemic study of the class of Sheffer sequences in connection with generating function of the weighted q-Euler polynomials is given in the present paper. WOS: 000311658400006, In this paper, the effects of both an external electric field and an external magnetic field on the energy of two interacting electrons in a two-dimensional parabolic quantum dot are investigated for various quantum states (n, vertical bar m vertical bar) in the framework of the asymptotic iteration method. It is seen that the energy eigenvalues increase monotonically with increasing electric and magnetic field strengths in the weak- and strong-field regimes. However, the behavior is slightly different in the two regimes. Whereas the energy values increase linearly in the low-electric-field regime, they increase much more than linearly in the strong-field regime. This paper demonstrates that it is possible to obtain the energy eigenvalues of two electrons in a two-dimensional parabolic quantum dot not only for cases with and without an electric field and with and without a magnetic field, but also for cases where magnetic and electric fields (either strong or weak) are present simultaneously.
