Leaf rust, caused by Puccinia triticina, is the most common rust disease of wheat. The fungus is an obligate parasite capable of producing infectious urediniospores. To study the genetic structure of the leaf rust population 20 RAPD primers were evaluated on 15 isolates samples collected in Pakistan. A total of 105 RAPD fragments were amplified with an average of 7 fragments per primer. The number of amplified fragments varied from 1 to 12. GL Decamer L-07 and GL Decamer L-01 amplified the highest number of bands (twelve) and primer GL Decamer A-03 amplified the lowest number of bands i.e one. Results showed that almost all investigated isolates were genetically different that confirms high genetic diversity within the leaf rust population. Rust spores can follow the migration pattern in short and long distances to neighbor areas. Results indicated that the greatest variability was revealed by 74.9% of genetic differentiation within leaf rust populations. These results suggested that each population was not completely identical and high gene flow has occurred among the leaf rust population of different areas. The highest differentiation and genetic distance among the Pakistani leaf rust populations were detected between the leaf rust population in NARC isolate (NARC-4) and AARI-11and the highest similarity was observed between NARC isolates (NARC-4) and (NARC-5). The present study showed the leaf rust population in Pakistan is highly dynamic and variable. Resumo A ferrugem da folha, causada por Puccinia triticina, é a ferrugem mais comum do trigo. Para estudar a estrutura genética da população de ferrugem da folha, 20 primers RAPD foram avaliados em 15 amostras de isolados coletadas no Paquistão. Um total de 105 fragmentos RAPD foram amplificados com uma média de 7 fragmentos por primer. O número de fragmentos amplificados variou de 1 a 12. GL Decamer L-07 e GL Decamer L-01 amplificaram o maior número de bandas (doze), e o primer GL Decamer A-03 amplificou o menor número de bandas, ou seja, um. With a constant push to shrink size and elevate power density, the heat flux in GaN-based devices is drastically intensified, requiring effective cooling to control junction temperature. This work presents an embedded manifold microchannel cooling (EMMC) arrangement targeted at mitigating junction temperature, in which microchannels are directly etched in the GaN substrate to extract heat generated due to self-heating. The single-phase laminar flow of deionized water through near-junction microchannels has been investigated in a unit-cell mimicking a recently reported GaN power converter with EMMC arrangement. The effects of geometrical parameters of the manifold and microchannel, heat flux and flow rate on the thermal-hydraulic performance of the unit-cell model are thoroughly studied. High heat transfer coefficients in the order of 10(5) W/(m(2).K) associated with the near-junction microfluidic single-phase flow are acquired, which demonstrates the excellent heat extraction capability of EMMC applied to GaN-based devices. The unit-cell model in the prediction of the thermal performance of a large-scale EMMC multifinger GaN device is in good agreement with experiment and capable of providing detailed fluid flow and temperature distributions for design optimization. Furthermore, a capped diamond heat spreader is integrated with the EMMC GaN device to reduce junction thermal spreading resistance. It is shown that high die heat flux in the range 0.86-3.01 kW/cm(2) can be effectively removed for the 10-mu m-thick diamond capped GaN-on-SiC EMMC device within a junction temperature range 48-110 degrees C. This new EMMC arrangement complemented with capped diamond holds promise as an ultimate near-junction cooling solution that facilitates the implementation and development of high-power compact GaN-based devices.

We consider the effect that an upstream cylinder has on the effective inertial collection efficiency of a downstream cylinder. We consider an initially uniform distribution of particles moving past a cylindrical fiber in a potential crossflow and numerically calculate the resulting particle distribution far downstream of the fiber using finite differences. We then investigate the effect that the downstream distribution of particles has on the effective inertial collision efficiency of a downstream test cylinder oriented parallel to the first. We show that the effective collision efficiency of the test cylinder depends on its relative offset in the transverse direction (normal to the flow) with respect to the upstream cylinder. For relatively small offsets there is complete shielding, and no particles collide with the test cylinder. As the offset increases, a growing effective collision efficiency is observed leading to a significant enhancement relative to the collision efficiency of an isolated cylinder for intermediate offsets and Stokes numbers close to unity. Importantly, we observe relative gains in effective collision efficiency above 100% for a range of Stokes number and offset values. For larger offsets and Stokes numbers, the effect of the upstream cylinder on the effective collision efficiency of the test cylinder decreases and eventually becomes negligible. Detailed results are provided for Stokes drag acting on the particles and we also show that a non-linear drag has negligible effect on the observed trends for the conditions relevant to filtration systems. These results suggest that the arrangement of fibers has a substantial effect on inertial particle impaction even when neighboring fibers do not alter the flow field around each individual collector. Moreover, periodic arrangements with specific orientations with respect of the flow could lead to a significant enhancement of the inertial collision of particles on an array of collectors, thus contributing towards a better filtration performance.

In this essay, I take a postphenomenological perspective on tracing work transformation during the pandemic, arguing that this perspective helps develop novel sensitivities to the nature of work. Postphenomenology brings into high relief the view on work as reliant on sensory performances and embodied relations, complementing already rich accounts of work being reliant on discursive interactions, social order, and spatiality. The focus of postphenomenology on ‘non-neutrality’ and the multistability of technology provides a useful lens for revealing a multiplicity of changes, encompassing both augmentations and reductions of work experiences and evaluating their consequences for the actors involved. Finally, its attention to the transparency of technology amidst the embodied experiences gives a handle on the role of materiality in the performance of work and may be taken up as informing design efforts. A case study vignette of physiotherapy work during lockdown is offered as an illustration of applying some of the postphenomenological ideas.

The main aim of this paper is to derive data for labour-augmenting technology (LAT) through growth accounting from a CES production function compatible with the stylized facts of growth. We solve a CES function for its LAT term and insert data. This provides LAT levels for alternative elasticities of substitution for 70 countries, 1950-2017. These LAT data then are analysed in relation to topics in the literature. Results are as follows. (i) The percentage growth rates of LAT are shown to fall over time (productivity slowdown) for all elasticity values in a panel data analysis with slope homogeneity. (ii) The standard growth result of a GDP growth rate equal to that of LAT and labour input holds only for LAT data based on low elasticities of substitution indicating that the economies are not in steady states. (iii) Matching the labour/capital share ratios from CES functions with those of PWT9.1 if the MPL-to-wage ratio is 1.6, the elasticities of substitution vary around 0.8. For this value, (iv) 13 of 69 countries have a productivity slowdown; (v) LAT growth rates are negatively related to their levels ten years ago without strongly changing the coefficient of variation or kernel density distribution over time.

The aim of this explorative study was to determine the key inertial measurement unit-based wheelchair mobility performance components during a wheelchair tennis match. A total of 64 wheelchair tennis matches were played by 15 wheelchair tennis players (6 women, 5 men, 4 juniors). All individual tennis wheelchairs were instrumented with inertial measurement units, two on the axes of the wheels and one on the frame. A total of 48 potentially relevant wheelchair tennis outcome variables were initially extracted from the sensor signals, based on previous wheelchair sports research and the input of wheelchair tennis experts (coaches, embedded scientists). A principal component analysis was used to reduce this set of variables to the most relevant outcomes for wheelchair tennis mobility. Results showed that wheelchair mobility performance in wheelchair tennis can be described by six components: rotations to racket side in (1) curves and (2) turns; (3) linear accelerations; (4) rotations to non-racket side in (4) turns and (5) curves; and finally, (6) linear velocities. One or two outcome variables per component were selected to allow an easier interpretation of results. These key outcome variables can be used to adequately describe the wheelchair mobility performance aspect of wheelchair tennis during a wheelchair tennis match and can be monitored during training.

Purpose This study aims to report the design, development and evaluation of a digital quality assurance application aimed at improving and ensuring the quality of assessment programmes in higher education. Design/methodology/approach The application was developed using a design-based research (DBR) methodology. The application’s design was informed by a literature search and needs assessment of quality assurance stakeholders to ensure compliance with daily practices and accreditation requirements. Stakeholders from three study programmes evaluated the application. Findings As part of the development of the application, module- and programme-level dashboards were created to provide an overview of the programme’s outcomes, assessment methods, assessment metrics, self-evaluated quality indicators and assessment documents. The application was evaluated by stakeholders at the module and programme levels. Overall, the results indicated that the dashboards aided them in gaining insight into the assessment programme and its alignment with underlying assessments. Practical implications Visualisation of the assessment programme’s structure and content identifies gaps and opportunities for improvement, which can be used to initiate a dialogue and further actions to improve assessment quality. Originality/value The application developed facilitates a cyclical and transparent assessment quality assurance procedure that is continuously available to various stakeholders in quality assurance.

Maintenance therapy delivered via inhaler is central to asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management. Poor adherence to inhaled medication and errors in inhalation technique have long represented major barriers to the optimal management of these chronic conditions. Technological innovations may provide a means of overcoming these barriers. This narrative review examines ongoing advances in digital technologies relevant to asthma and COPD with the potential to inform clinical decision-making and improve patient care. Digital inhaler devices linked to mobile apps can help bring about changes in patients’ behaviors and attitudes towards disease management, particularly when they build in elements of interactivity and gamification. They can also support ongoing technique education, empowering patients and helping providers maximize the value of consultations and develop effective action plans informed by insights into the patient’s inhaler use patterns and their respiratory health. When combined with innovative techniques such as machine learning, digital devices have the potential to predict exacerbations and prompt pre- emptive intervention. Finally, digital devices may support an advanced precision medicine approach to respiratory disease management and help support shared decision-making. Further work is needed to increase uptake of digital devices and integrate their use into care pathways before their full potential in personalized asthma and COPD management can be realized.

This review argues that the role of technology in business and society debates has predominantly been examined from the limited, narrow perspective of technology as instrumental, and that two additional but relatively neglected perspectives are important: technology as value-laden and technology as relationally agentic. Technology has always been part of the relationship between business and society, for better and worse. However, as technological development is frequently advanced as a solution to many pressing societal problems and grand challenges, it is imperative that technology is understood and analyzed in a more nuanced, critical, and comprehensive way. The two additional perspectives invite a broader research agenda, one that includes questions, such as “Which values and whose interests has technology come to emulate?”; “How do these values and interests play out in stabilizing the status quo?”; and, importantly, “How can it be contested, disrupted, and changed?” Any research that endorses green, sustainable, environmental, or climate mitigating technologies potentially contributes to maintaining the very thing that it seeks to change if questions such as these are not being addressed.

This global phenomenon has increased the importance of studying the psychosocial risks linked to the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), such as technostress. This study aims to provide validity evidence for the Technostress Creators Scale in Spain and to test its measurement invariance in terms of gender. Method: We analyzed the psychometric properties of the scale, its factor solution, and gender invariance in a sample of 931 employees from Spain. Results: The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) showed that the Spanish version maintained the five factors from the original version: techno-overload, techno-invasion, techno-complexity, techno-insecurity, and techno-uncertainty. The instrument demonstrated adequate reliability. The results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) also replicated the five-factor structure of the English version. Additionally, measurement invariance tests indicated differences between genders. Conclusions: The resulting Spanish scale has 18 items, which is shorter than the original version. The implications and limitations of the Spanish version of the instrument are detailed in the discussion.

This study is focused on unsustainable agri-food systems, especially intensive livestock farming and its resulting environmental harms. Specifically we focus on the development of technologies that seek to mitigate these environmental harms. These technologies are generally developed as incremental innovations in response to government regulation. Critics of these technological solutions allege that these developments legitimate unsustainable food production systems and are incapable of supporting agri-food systems transformation. At the same time, technology developers and other actors seek to present these technologies as the legitimate solution to agri-environmental harms. Our study seeks to explore the perceptions and constructions of legitimacy for technologies that are developed to reduce ammonia emissions in intensive livestock farming in Flanders (Belgium). We use a qualitative case study, employing semi-structured interviews and workshops, with technology developers of ammonia-emission reducing technologies and stakeholders in the intensive livestock farming industry in Flanders. What our study shows is that technologies developed to reduce emissions are dependent on regulative legitimacy. The normative and cognitive legitimacy of these technologies is lacking, both due to ties to the intensive livestock industry and due to uncertainty over the performance of these technologies. With the delegitimation of intensive livestock farming, the legitimacy of these technologies is also under threat. In response, technology developers are looking to (re-)construct this legitimacy through knowledge claims over the performance of their technologies. We show several ways for other actors to deal with this, centred on either re-legitimising technologies to maintain the status quo, or to contest these knowledge claims and use them to disrupt path dependencies.

This review provides a comprehensive overview of published hydrometallurgicalchemical processes capable of separating americium from curium and the lanthanides.A search for highly-selective and robust americium separation methods is motivated bythe fact that americium isotopes contribute significantly to the long-term heat load andresidual radiotoxicity of high level waste originating from the PUREX process,nowadays still the key reprocessing technology to recycle uranium and plutonium fromspent nuclear fuel. The separation (partitioning) and subsequent nuclear transmutation(or burning) of americium would allow a substantial cost saving in the construction ofan underground final repository and provide safety benefits – highly relevant for theexploitation of such a facility over extended periods of time. Besides the discussion ofbasic properties of the various separation methods, an evaluation of their compatibilitywith upstream and downstream processes as well as the treatment of secondary wastestreams is provided.

How best to nurture knowledge and expertise in applied computing, a.k.a. ‘tech’, is a subject of vital contemporary concern. Here the tech knowledge space is considered in relation to how certain cognitive processes might operate on and within it, the aim being to arrive at a perspective capable of shedding light on how technologists might be assisted as they go about locating, assimilating and utilizing information. Ideas from cognitive science and elsewhere provide raw materials from which to assemble a proto-theoretical framework which may contain useful pointers for educators, learning technologists and providers of information products and services.

What is the defining feature of the human capacity to think? One answer to this vexing question, the dominant one is our technological era, is to conceive this faculty as mind-centered or egocentric. Thinking here is taken fundamentally to be a mental act. The project to artificially recreate human thinking is premised on this arguably concentric reading of thinking, one in conformity with a code-dependent and calculative understanding of what constitutes intelligence. An alternative reading underscores the extent to which the human capacity for reflection is excentric, or displaced from the center that is the cogito. Jean-Francois Lyotard, Byung-Chul Han, and Jean Baudrillard are recruited as contemporary proponents of the excentric paradigm. Their analyses are marshaled as a means of underscoring the fact that despite recent advances within the realm of artificial intelligence, the project to replicate human intelligence is structurally incapable of duplicating its defining feature--an embodied and open-ended relationship to the world.

The purpose of this study is to determine how influential TikTok social media is and the factors that influence consumptive behavior. Respondents in this study are UMS Communication Science Students who use the Tiktok application in their daily lives. The sampling technique used by researchers is purposive sampling. Based on the results of the simple linear regression test, the results of the constant (a) of 15.943 and the regression coefficient (b) of 0.791 are obtained, which means that the variable use of TikTok has an influence on consumptive behavior, from the simple linear test it can be concluded that Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted, because the significance value obtained is 0.000

This research offered a concept that makes use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to provide automated distribution and consumption control as well as real-time monitoring of water supply and quality. Using Arduino microcontrollers and sensors enables the development of a scalable, affordable solution that may be used in a number of smart city applications. The potential advantages of the suggested approach are also highlighted in the article, including better water conservation, decreased waste, and higher water distribution efficiency. Additionally, the difficulties and restrictions of putting such a system into practise are discussed, and recommendations for further study and development in this area are given.

This study determines the extent of the usefulness of social media to pre-service teachers at Baguio Central University. It elaborates on social media's various applications and benefits in their training. This study utilized a descriptive quantitative design and a survey for data collection. Through the total enumeration sampling method, 45 pre-service teachers enrolled at the College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts were the respondents of this study. The study investigated how pre-service teachers perceive the usefulness of social media during their career training. The results revealed that Facebook Messenger, Facebook, and YouTube were the commonly used social media platforms. The time spent on social media was 3-4 hours daily. Moreover, pre-service teachers find social media moderately useful in entertainment, academics, socialization, and information, indicating an increase in the use of social media during their training for personal and professional development. The results indicate that pre-service teachers find social media beneficial for social and educational purposes. Overall, the results suggest that all participants utilized social media to improve training, the quality of lesson delivery, and access to instructional learning materials. This research benefits all pre- service teachers working in their respective fields of study.

In the current era of high environmental uncertainty, the advancement of green technologies has led to innovative practices in the manufacturing sector, becoming the preferred approach for achieving sustainable development in today’s business markets. Manufacturing firms require green innovation to improve their environmental performance and monitor operations effectively, but the adoption and implementation of these innovations is still low among manufacturing industries. To bridge this gap, a study was conducted using resource-based view (RBV) theory and the technology–organization–environment (TOE) framework to develop and validate a model that encourages firms to adopt green innovation. A survey was administered to 179 respondents from manufacturing firms, and the data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The integrated constructs of the model—perceived benefits, top management support, coercive pressure, normative pressure, and mimetic pressure—all predicted green management accounting practices. Additionally, the study found that green management accounting practices directly and significantly impacted green environmental performance. The developed model provides clear implications for decision makers, highlighting the importance of adopting green practices and innovative technologies in order to enhance environmental performance. Advanced green technologies have shown a significant connection between green management accounting practices and environmental performance, particularly in developing economies.

The study sought to find out the e-learning tools adopted by selected institutions of higher learning in Kisii County. To achieve this, the study used a descriptive survey research design that was qualitative. The target population comprised institutions of higher learning in Kisii County from which an accessible population of two institutions was drawn; one was a public University and the other was a TVET institution. The target population for the study was 400. A sample size of 80 respondents was arrived at using the Yamane’s formula of 1967. Simple random sampling method was utilized to select 80 respondents with a representative of 40 respondents from each institution. The sample consisted of 20 teachers and 20 students from each institution. The participants completed questionnaires from which the e-learning tools employed by each of the institutions were determined. The questionnaires comprised of both closed-ended and open-ended items. These e-learning tools included the asynchronous tools and the synchronous tools. The asynchronous tools consist of Google classroom, YouTube videos, WhatsApp and e-mail whereas the synchronous ones include all forms of video and audio conferencing, Moodle, Zoom, Web Conferencing, Big Blue Button, Lockdown Browser, Respondus, Chat Rooms and Telephone conversations. To achieve the study objective, the Instructional Core Framework was employed. Two institutions that did not participate in the study group, was selected randomly for a pretest. The split halves technique was used to ascertain the reliability of research instruments. From the study, it was evident that institutions of higher learning did make use of several e-learning tools in teaching and in the COVID-19 period. Based on the findings, the study concluded that public Universities were much ahead in adopting online teaching and learning in comparison to TVET institutions. Therefore, the government of Kenya should revamp Information Communication Technologies in TVET institutions so that they are able to establish their own Learning Management Systems and equip trainers and trainees with skills sufficient enough to enable them transition to online teaching and learning. The study recommends a nationwide study in all tertiary institutions with the aim of assessing the success or failures of e learning during the COVID-19 period.

Diverse innovative strategies for achieving sustainable internationalization have emerged as a consequence of the continuing development of education and technology. Several academic institutions in China have made the pursuit of international recognition a central policy objective in an effort to achieve global prominence in the coming decades. This study aimed to explore the use of technology in promoting the sustainable internationalization of graduate education in China using teachers’ experiences and perspectives. In this regard, an assessment was conducted of the teachers’ experiences and perspectives on the aspects involved in the use of technology-based education for sustainable internationalization as well as the effect of these aspects on the internationalization of graduate education. The sample consisted of 806 teachers from different universities in China. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The data analysis was carried out using SPSS 22, JASP and SmartPLS 4. The results showed that Chinese teachers had satisfactory experiences regarding the use of technology in internationalizing graduate education. Furthermore, teachers were highly satisfied with using technology to support collaborative online international learning, research cooperation, intercultural competence development and virtual mobility. The results also revealed that teachers were less likely to be satisfied with using technology to support open exchange programs and the internationalization of the curriculum. In addition, the results demonstrated that collaborative online international learning, research cooperation and intercultural competence development had a direct effect on the internationalization of graduate education. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the situation regarding graduate education in China is acceptable, while at the same time, support and more effort from the government and teachers are required.

Energy transitions are at the top of global agendas in response to the growing challenges of climate change and international conflict, with the EU positioning itself as playing a pivotal role in addressing climate risks and sustainability imperatives. European energy transition policies identify ‘smart consumption’ as a key element of these efforts, which have previously been explored from a predominantly technical perspective thus often failing to identify or address fundamental interlinkages with social systems and consequences. This paper aims to contribute to interdisciplinary energy research by analysing a forward looking ‘Horizon Scan’ research agenda for smart consumption, driven by the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH). Reflecting on an extensive systematic Delphi Method exercise surveying over 70 SSH scholars from various institutional settings across Europe, we highlight what SSH scholars see as future directions for smart consumption research. Building from seven thematic areas (under which are grouped 100 SSH research questions), the study identifies three key ‘shifts’ this new smart research agenda represents, when compared to previous agendas: (1) From technological inevitability to political choice, highlighting the need for a wider political critique, with the potential to open up discussions of the instrumentalisation of smart research; (2) From narrow representation to diverse inclusion, moving beyond the shortcomings of current discourses for engaging marginalised communities; and (3) From individual consumers to interconnected citizens, reframing smart consumption to offer a broader model of social change and governance. Social Sciences and Humanities scholarship is essential to address these shifts in meaningful (rather than tokenistic) ways. This agenda and the shifts it embodies represent key tools to enable better interdisciplinary working between SSH and teams from the technical and natural sciences.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the adoption of new technology within the Meetings, Exhibitions and Conventions sector in Thailand. Theoretical framework: An adapted version of the diffusion of innovation theory combined with variables from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is used to define the key variables upon which data is gathered. Design/methodology/approach: The study reviews the MEEC/MICE sector in Thailand and its importance, the existing level of the adoption of new technology and the government plan to encourage further adoption. An online survey of 302 MEEC/MICE Organizers is analysed using stepwise Multiple Linear regression to estimate the attitude of the organizers toward new technology and which factors have the greatest influence on their intention to adopt new technology further. Findings: The results indicate that 85% of the study participants are currently adopting MEEC/MICE technological innovation in one way or another, and 99.6% are of the opinion that they will adopt it in the future. The study also indicates that the business environment, of which government policy is a major factor, can have an influence on both the attitude and the adoption intention of technology, but that their own attitude to technology is the factor with most weight and that the respondent’s attitude to new technology is mostly influenced by their employees’ capability. Research, Practical & Social implications: The Thai government is attempting to change the Thai economy from a manufacturing economy to a high value advanced economy. The further adoption of new technology in this important sector is a vital part of this attempt. Originality/value: The study is the first study in Thailand to use inferential statistical analsyis to estimate the most important factors determining MEEC/MICE operators’ adoption of new technology.

In today’s world, carrying multiple cards by an individual to establish one’s identity and make different transactions has become an essential part of our lives’ routine. Several options have been adopted by various countries and every option has its pros and cons. However, it has been observed that in most cases, a single smart card solution has been preferred by users and organizations in some countries and Nigeria is yet to adopt it. This paper is mainly to study the Single smart card awareness, acceptability among Polytechnics students in Taraba State. The study adopted survey research design. Thus, two hundred (200) students were randomly sampled (from a population of one thousand six hundred) for the study. Two research questions guided the study. Data for the study was collected through a self-designed questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using Arithmetic Mean and Standard Deviation. The findings of the study showed that many students go about with multiple cards without the awareness of single smart card technology, while others due to security challenges constrained the acceptability of a single smart card. The paper concluded that there is a need for awareness and training to familiarize users with the single smart card technology looking at its benefits and application outweighing it challenges. Also, the paper recommended among others that further research on the security of a single smart card should be carried out to enable users to accept and adapt to its functionality. The CRISPR-Cas system is commonly known for its ability to cleave DNA in a programmable manner, which has democratized gene editing and facilitated recent breakthroughs in gene therapy. However, newer iterations of the technology using nuclease-disabled Cas enzymes have spurred a variety of different types of genetic engineering platforms such as transcriptional modulation using the CRISPR activation (CRISPRa) and CRISPR interference (CRISPRi) systems. This review introduces the creation of these programmable transcriptional modulators, various methods of delivery utilized for these systems, and recent technological developments. CRISPRa and CRISPRi have also been implemented in genetic screens for interrogating gene function and discovering genes involved in various biological pathways. We describe recent compelling examples of how these tools have become powerful means to unravel genetic networks and uncovering important information about devastating diseases. Finally, we provide an overview of preclinical studies in which transcriptional modulation has been used therapeutically, and we discuss potential future directions of these novel modalities.

We compute reconstructions of 4D and 5D fast-ion phase-space distribution functions in fusion plasmas from synthetic projections of these functions. The fast-ion phase-space distribution functions originating from neutral beam injection (NBI) at TCV and Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) at full, half, and one-third injection energies can be distinguished and particle densities of each component inferred based on 20 synthetic spectra of projected velocities at TCV and 680 at W7-X. Further, we demonstrate that an expansion into a basis of slowing-down distribution functions is equivalent to regularization using slowing-down physics as prior information. Using this technique in a Tikhonov formulation, we infer the particle density fractions for each NBI energy for each NBI beam from synthetic measurements, resulting in six unknowns at TCV and 24 unknowns at W7-X. Additionally, we show that installing 40 LOS in each of 17 ports at W7-X, providing full beam coverage and almost full angle coverage, produces the highest quality reconstructions.

A Product Configuration System (PCS) is a software system that facilitates the sales and production processes of defined customizable products. PCS are specific software developments in the sense that they are knowledge-intensive so that they require models to formalize the complex knowledge inherent to product configurations also leading to dependencies between software functionalities. Scrum is a widely used agile method, but its training has been the subject of little research. Model-driven development implicitly impacts the way development is conducted especially when adopting an agile method as Scrum. This paper, as exploratory research, evaluates Scrum training for PCS projects through a qualitative case study. The goal is to identify the elements that should be focused on within Scrum background training. This research first studies and assesses the training experiences at the case company. Then, it reports on respondents’ opinions about the strengths and challenges of applying Scrum in the mentioned context. The latter is based on multiple data sources: documentation, interviews, participant observations, and workshops. Issues in applicability lead to enhanced training support for learning how to (i) combine Scrum with the model-driven approach inherently required within PCS development, (ii) manage time and effort estimation on the basis of accurate artifacts and (iii) access key employees possessing domain or specific technical knowledge indispensable for pursuing the development.

El COVID-19 ha afectado el desarrollo de las actividades económicas y ha aumentado el desempleo. La alternativa más viable es promover el emprendimiento. El emprendimiento digital tomó mayor importancia ante el confinamiento impuesto para frenar la propagación del COVID-19. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar algunas áreas de trabajo para el desarrollo del emprendimiento digital con el objetivo de promover el autoempleo de los jóvenes. Se utilizó una metodología cualitativa con alcance transversal y descriptivo utilizando fuentes secundarias. Los resultados muestran que las herramientas tecnológicas como el Marketing de Contenidos y Redes Sociales, Inteligencia Artificial, Impresión 3D, Realidad Virtual, Big Data, Dispositivos a través de la Voz, Robotización, automatización y transformación digital de empresas, Comercio Electrónico y Ocio Digital son la nueva fuente para el desarrollo empresarial. Si bien México está preparado para la implementación de negocios vía Internet, cabe señalar que aún existen barreras como la burocracia, capacitación, mayor inversión, desconocimiento y resistencia al cambio. The most viable alternative is to promote entrepreneurship. Digital entrepreneurship took on greater importance in the face of the confinement imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19. The objective of this research is to analyze some work areas for the development of digital entrepreneurship with the aim of promoting self-employment of young people. A qualitative methodology with cross-sectional and descriptive scope was used using secondary sources. The results of this study show that technological tools are the new source for business development as Content Marketing and Social Networks, Artificial Intelligence, 3D Printing, Virtual Reality, Big Data, Devices through the Voice, Robotization, automation and digital transformation of companies, Electronic Commerce and Digital Leisure just to mention these. Although Mexico is prepared for the implementation of businesses via the Internet, it should be noted that there are still barriers such as bureaucracy, training, greater investment, ignorance and resistance to change. Then, it is urgent to develop collaborative public-private-academy strategies to strengthen institutions, infrastructure and human skills focused on new technologies to guarantee decent employment for generation Z, also known as the Centennials generation, those born between 1995 and 2010.

The antenna will have to sustain power loads not only from thermal plasma and radiation but also fast ions. Predictive simulations of fast-ion power loads to the antenna components are therefore important to establish safe operational limits. In this work, the fast-ion power loads from the W7-X neutral beam injection (NBI) system to the ICRH antenna was simulated using the ASCOT suite of codes. Five reference magnetic configurations and five antenna positions were considered to provide an overview of power load behavior under various operating conditions. The NBI power load was found to have an exponential dependence on the antenna insertion depth. Differences between magnetic configurations were significant, with the antenna limiter power load varying between 380 W and 100 kW depending on the configuration. Qualitative differences in power load patterns between configurations were also observed, with the low mirror and low iota configurations exhibiting higher loads to the sensitive antenna straps. The local fast-ion power flux to the antenna limiter was also considered and found to exceed the 2.0 MW m−2 steady-state safety limit only in specific cases. The NBI system might thus pose a safety concern to the ICRH antenna during concurrent NBI-ICRH operation, but additional heat propagation simulations of antenna components are needed to establish more realistic operational time limits.

Athlete development depends on many factors that need to be balanced by the coach. The amount of data collected grows with the development of sensor technology. To make data-informed decisions for training prescription of their athletes, coaches could be supported by feedback through a coach dashboard. The aim of this paper is to describe the design of a coach dashboard based on scientific knowledge, user requirements, and (sensor) data to support decision making of coaches for athlete development in cyclic sports. The design process involved collaboration with coaches, embedded scientists, researchers, and IT professionals. A classic design thinking process was used to structure the research activities in five phases: empathise, define, ideate, prototype, and test phases. To understand the user requirements of coaches, a survey (n = 38), interviews (n = 8) and focus-group sessions (n = 4) were held. Design principles were adopted into mock-ups, prototypes, and the final coach dashboard. Designing a coach dashboard using the co-operative research design helped to gain deep insights into the specific user requirements of coaches in their daily training practice. In order to reduce the switching frequency involved in the traditional three-level model predictive control utilized for permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSMs), a model predictive torque control scheme associated with the switching frequency optimization is proposed. Firstly, the reason for higher switching frequency in the three-level drive system is analyzed in depth. Then, the vector screening strategy considering switching state restriction is introduced and the switching frequency constraint is constructed in the cost function, which can effectively reduce the switching frequency as well as decrease the number of candidate vectors. Furthermore, the neutral potential is balanced in terms of the opposite effect of positive and negative redundant small vectors on neutral potential. Finally, the validity of the control strategy is verified by the simulation and experiment. The simulated and experimental results prove that the switching frequency of the proposed control strategy is reduced by nearly half of that in traditional strategy;meanwhile, the fluctuation of neutral potential is eliminated.

Yet little is known about what influences these decisions. A systematic review of reasoning identified the range of reasons clinicians give in the literature when initiating technology dependence in a child, and as a result helps determine the range of influences on these decisions. Methods Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsychINFO, Web of Science, ASSIA and Global Health Library databases were searched to identify all reasons given for the initiation of technology dependence in a child. Each reason was coded as a broad and narrow reason type, and whether it supported or rejected technology dependence. Results 53 relevant papers were retained from 1604 publications, containing 116 broad reason types and 383 narrow reason types. These were grouped into broad thematic categories: clinical factors, quality of life factors, moral imperatives and duty and personal values; and whether they supported, rejected or described the initiation of technology dependence. The majority were conceptual or discussion papers, less than a third were empirical studies. Most discussed neonates and focused on end-of-life care. Conclusions There is a lack of empirical studies on this topic, scant knowledge about the experience of older children and their families in particular; and little written on choices made outside 'end-of-life' care. This review provides a sound basis for empirical research into the important influences on a child's potential technology dependence.

This paper examines the role of structural change in India's performance, and in particular the role of the informal segment in the stagnant growth of the Indian manufacturing sector. Using counterfactual analysis - including a modified shift-share approach - the paper considers to what extent the informal sector can help explain the poor performance of Indian manufacturing over the period 1980-2011. The results suggest that the informal segment of manufacturing has been a drag on overall manufacturing productivity growth, with the informal manufacturing segment unable to provide a productivity bonus when absorbing workers from the agricultural sector. Results from the shift-share analysis indicate that labor reallocation to the informal segment of the manufacturing sector is growth-reducing, with structural change being the main source of this reduction, an effect which in turn is driven by movements of employment within manufacturing sub-sectors.

In order to solve the problem of inaccurate pose estimation by the classical direct linear transformation(DLT) and efficient perspective-n-point(EPNP) methods, an improved method for pose estimation is proposed. The computation process of the DLT method is optimized for easy solving. The nonlinear optimization is introduced to improve its accuracy. A proper cost function is proposed based on the Levenberg-Marquardt(LM) algorithm for solving Jocabian matrix easily. The Li group and Li algebra are introduced for representing the tiny transformation of the pose matrix, which simplifies the solution of Jocabian matrix and iterative process of optimization. The experimental results show that the proposed method is much more accurate than the DLT and the EPNP methods, and is more accurate than the DLT + numerical value-based LM algorithm. The total mean image re-projection error is 0.269 0 pixel. The time consuming experiments indicate that the proposed method needs less time compared with the DLT + numeriacl value-based LM algorithm. Its total average time is 67.48 ms per frame. These prove that the proposed method has comprehensively good performance in precision and time cost, which has good practical value.

The article deals with the known information about the main type of oil industry waste – oil sludge. Existing methods and technologies of oil sludge processing into polymer additives for asphalt concrete are presented and analyzed. The main problems and shortcomings of the methods of oil sludge processing considered in the study are revealed.

The harmful effects of oil and gas projects on the environment are not limited to the production period. Unlike operating production facilities, control over the state of abandoned wells and fields falls on the state. In the Russian Federation, the obligations of subsoil user companies to properly perform decommissioning operations are not legally regulated and financially secured. Based on world experience, the paper analyzes the most common schemes for formation and accounting of financial assurance for decommissioning operations and examines the state of legislative regulation on this problem in Russia and the world. It presents recommendations on state regulation to guarantee full completion of decommissioning operations by subsoil users, improve their quality and monitor the environmental safety of abandoned wells.

The traditional named entity disambiguation technology usually relies on rich context and knowledge of external entities. However, many emerging entities lack knowledge bases and the text containing entities is short. These limitations make traditional algorithms unable to make full use of contextual semantic information. At the same time,due to the limitation of the number of effective samples, the final application scenarios of the algorithm are very limited. Based on the above defects, this paper proposes a deep learning-based entity disambiguation method combining bidirectional encoder representation from transformers(BERT) model and long short-term memory neural network.The main work are the following parts: 1) A word vector based on the BERT model is designed to obtain more information through fewer data samples. 2) In order to allow the long short-term memory neural networks to retain useful information and verify that the short text applies to the method of this article, this method segments the sentence samples. 3) This article uses the neural network intelligence(NNI) technology proposed by Microsoft, which makes it possible to quickly and efficiently obtain the optimal neural network hyperparameter. This study compares other different types of word vectors and neural network technology, confirming that the F-Measure value of the entity disambiguation technology based on deep learning used in this paper is higher.

Purpose To identify possible technological solutions that can contribute to stroke patients' participation at home. Methods In this qualitative case study, data on factors that negatively influenced participation at home were collected via semi-structured interviews with stroke patients (n = 6). Additionally, data on possible technologies to improve this participation were collected via a group interview with experts (n = 4). The domains "cognition, mobility, self-care, and getting along" (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health) guided the data collection and interpretation; open, axial and selective coding was part of the analysis. Results Patients reported 21 factors negatively influencing participation at home, including psychological, cognitive, and physical factors. Experts suggested technological solutions regarding these factors to increase participation of stroke patients; digital assistants, apps, and virtual reality were frequently mentioned. To facilitate the use of these technologies, experts indicated the importance of involving patients in their design. They also suggested that rehabilitation specialists and family members could support the uptake and use of technologies. Conclusions Various technologies were identified by experts as having the potential to improve the participation of stroke patients in their homes. Future research may study the influence of these technologies on the actual participation of stroke patients at home.Implications for rehabilitationThe identified technological solutions can support rehabilitation specialists in guiding stroke patients towards technologies that can support a patient's participation at home.Rehabilitation specialists can be champions in introducing, recommending and promoting technologies to stroke patients and their families, as well as in training them to use technologies.Virtual reality as a technology can be part of rehabilitation, not only to train stroke patients in daily life activities but also to increase empathy and understanding in caregivers and carers on stroke impairments.Rehabilitation specialists can recommend technologies integrated in daily life and presented as general consumer goods; stroke patients are more likely to adopt these kind of technologies.

Background: The incidence of facial skin cancer increases worldwide, resulting in more surgical resections and reconstructions. Reconstructive surgery aims to approach a normal facial anatomy to optimize the quality of life. Objective automated assessment of the esthetic outcome of facial reconstructions could provide feedback for the improvement of surgical techniques and preoperative patient expectation management. Objective: This systematic literature review aimed to assess whether modern technologies can create automated objective measurements of surgical and non-surgical facial interventions outcomes using 3D surface imaging technology. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in Embase, Medline (Ovid), Web of Science, and Cochrane on May 19, 2021. All English literature was collected on surgical and non-surgical invasive facial interventions in which 3D surface imaging technology was used for objective automated assessment of outcomes. Results: Fourteen articles were included in the systematic review. 3D surface imaging technology and automated assessment techniques were found for skin malignancy, cleft lip repair, rhinoplasty, orthognathic surgery, and injectables. Ten 3D surface imaging technology hardware systems and 12 software systems were described. Four studies compared 3D surface imaging techniques to conventional methods. Ten studies used 3D surface imaging techniques for the evaluation of the surgical outcome, without comparison to 2D photography, validated scores, or a panel. Two studies validated the hardware system. Conclusion: This systematic literature review shows that 3D surface imaging technology has the potential for automated objective assessment of facial intervention outcomes. Future studies are necessary to study and validate these tools for standard clinical use in patients with facial interventions.

Hybrid inorganic-organic perovskites have attracted considerable attention over recent years as promising processable electronic materials. In particular, the rich structural dynamics of these ‘soft’ materials has become a subject of investigation and debate due to their direct influence on the perovskites' optoelectronic properties. Significant effort has focused on understanding the role and behaviour of the organic cations within the perovskite, as their rotational dynamics may be linked to material stability, heterogeneity and performance in (opto)electronic devices. To this end, we use two-dimensional IR spectroscopy (2DIR) to understand the effect of partial caesium alloying on the rotational dynamics of the methylammonium cation in the archetypal hybrid perovskite CH3NH3PbI3. We find that caesium incorporation primarily inhibits the slower ‘reorientational jump’ modes of the organic cation, whilst a smaller effect on the fast ‘wobbling time’ may be due to distortions and rigidisation of the inorganic cuboctahedral cage. 2DIR centre-line-slope analysis further reveals that while static disorder increases with caesium substitution, the dynamic disorder (reflected in the phase memory of the N-H stretching mode of methylammonium) is largely independent of caesium addition. Our results contribute to the development of a unified model of cation dynamics within organohalide perovskites.
