In this paper, we consider the evolution of the thermofield-double state under the double-traced operator that connects its both sides. We will compute the entanglement entropy of the resulting state using the replica trick for the large N field theory. To leading order, it can be computed from the two-point function of the theory, where, in CFTs, it is fixed by the symmetries. Due to the exponential decay of the interaction, the entanglement entropy saturates about the thermal time after the interaction is on. Next, we restrict ourselves to one dimension and assume that the theory at strong coupling is effectively described by the Schwarzian action. We then compute the coarse-grained entropy of the resulting state using the four-point function. The equality of the two entropies implies that the double-traced operators in our theory act coherently. We develop an integrability-based framework to compute structure constants of two sub-determinant operators and a single-trace non-BPS operator in ABJM theory in the planar limit. In this first paper, we study them at weak coupling using a relation to an integrable spin chain. We first develop a nested Bethe ansatz for an alternating SU(4) spin chain that describes single-trace operators made out of scalar fields. We then apply it to the computation of the structure constants and show that they are given by overlaps between a Bethe eigenstate and a matrix product state. We conjecture that the determinant operator corresponds to an integrable matrix product state and present a closed-form expression for the overlap, which resembles the so-called Gaudin determinant. We also provide evidence for the integrability of general sub-determinant operators. Recently it is found that, due to Weyl anomaly, a background scalar field induces a non-trivial Fermi condensation for theories with Yukawa couplings. For simplicity, the paper consider only scalar type Yukawa coupling and, in the BCFT case, only for a specific boundary condition. In these cases, the Weyl anomaly takes on a simple special form. In this paper, we generalize the results to more general situations. First, we obtain general expressions of Weyl anomaly due to a background scalar and pseudo scalar field in general 4d BCFTs. Then, we derive the general form of Fermi condensation from the Weyl anomaly. It is remarkable that, in general, Fermi condensation is non-zero even if there was not a non-vanishing scalar field background. Finally, we verify our results with free BCFT with Yukawa coupling to scalar and pseudo-scalar background potential with general chiral bag boundary condition and with holographic BCFT. The classical gravity approximation is often employed in AdS/CFT to study the dual field theory, as it allows for many computations. A drawback is however the generic presence of singularities in classical gravity, which limits the applicability of AdS/CFT to regimes where the singularities are avoided by bulk probes, or some other form of regularisation is applicable. At the same time, quantum gravity is expected to resolve those singularities and thus to extend the range of applicability of AdS/CFT also in classically singular regimes. This paper exemplifies such a computation. We use an effective quantum corrected Kasner-AdS metric inspired by results from non-perturbative canonical quantum gravity to compute the 2-point correlator in the geodesic approximation for a negative Kasner exponent. The correlator derived in the classical gravity approximation has previously been shown to contain a pole at finite distance as a signature of the singularity. Using the quantum corrected metric, we show explicitly how the pole is resolved and that a new subdominant long-distance contribution to the correlator emerges, caused by geodesics passing arbitrarily close to the resolved classical singularity. The major simplification in a number of quantum integrable systems is the existence of special coordinates in which the eigenstates take a factorised form. Despite many years of studies, the basis realising the separation of variables (SoV) remains unknown in N=4 SYM and similar models, even though it is widely believed they are integrable. In this paper we initiate the SoV approach for observables with nontrivial coupling dependence in a close cousin of N=4 SYM - the fishnet 4D CFT. We develop the functional SoV formalism in this theory, which allows us to compute non-perturbatively some nontrivial observables in a form suitable for numerical evaluation. We present some applications of these methods. In particular, we discuss the possible SoV structure of the one-point correlators in presence of a defect, and write down a SoV-type expression for diagonal OPE coefficients involving an arbitrary state and the Lagrangian density operator. We believe that many of the findings of this paper can be applied in the N=4 SYM case, as we speculate in the last part of the article., 53 pages + appendices, 5 figures. v2: references added, small changes to the text. Entwinement was first introduced as the CFT dual to extremal, non-minimal geodesics of quotiented AdS$_3$ spaces. It was heuristically meant to capture the entanglement of internal, gauged degrees of freedom, for instance in the symmetric product orbifold CFT of the D1/D5 brane system. The literature now contains different, and sometimes inequivalent, field theory definitions of entwinement. In this paper, we build a discretized lattice model of symmetric product orbifold CFTs, and explicitly construct a gauge-invariant reduced density matrix whose von Neumann entropy agrees with the holographic computation of entwinement. Refining earlier notions, our construction gives meaning to the entwinement of an interval of given size within a long string of specific length. Several recent papers have shown a close relationship between entanglement wedge reconstruction and the unitarity of black hole evaporation in AdS/CFT. The analysis of these papers however has a rather puzzling feature: all calculations are done using bulk dynamics which are essentially those Hawking used to predict information loss, but applying ideas from entanglement wedge reconstruction seems to suggest a Page curve which is consistent with information conservation. Why should two different calculations in the same model give different answers for the Page curve? In this note we present a new pair of models which clarify this situation. Our first model gives a holographic illustration of unitary black hole evaporation, in which the analogue of the Hawking radiation purifies itself as expected, and this purification is reproduced by the entanglement wedge analysis. Moreover a smooth black hole interior persists until the last stages the evaporation process. Our second model gives an alternative holographic interpretation of the situation where the bulk evolution leads to information loss: unlike in the models proposed so far, this bulk information loss is correctly reproduced by the entanglement wedge analysis. This serves as an illustration that quantum extremal surfaces are in some sense kinematic: the time-dependence of the entropy they compute depends on the choice of bulk dynamics. In both models no bulk quantum corrections need to be considered: classical extremal surfaces are enough to do the job. We argue that our first model is the one which gives the right analogy for what actually happens to evaporating black holes, but we also emphasize that any complete resolution of the information problem will require an understanding of non-perturbative bulk dynamics., Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures. v2: Improved the octopus picture. The entropy of 1/16-th BPS AdS5 black holes can be microscopically accounted for by the superconformal index of the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory. One way to compute this is through a Cardy-like limit of a formula for the index obtained in [1] using the “S-transformation” of the elliptic Γ function. In this paper, we derive more general SL(3, ℤ) modular properties of the elliptic Γ function. We then use these properties to obtain a three integer parameter family of generalized Cardy-like limits of the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 superconformal index. From these limits, we obtain entropy formulae that have a similar form as that of the original AdS5 black hole, up to an overall rescaling of the entropy. We interpret this both on the field theory and the gravitational side. Finally, we comment on how our work suggests a generalization of the Farey tail to four dimensions.

We study how coarse-graining procedure of an underlying UV-complete quantum gravity gives rise to a connected geometry. It has been shown, quantum entanglement plays a key role in the emergence of such a geometric structure, namely a smooth Einstein-Rosen bridge. In this paper, we explore the possibility of the emergence of similar geometric structure from classical correlation, in the AdS/CFT setup. To this end, we consider a setup where we have two decoupled CFT Hilbert spaces, then choose a random typical state in one of the Hilbert spaces and the same state in the other. The total state in the fine-grained picture is of course a tensor product state, but averaging over the states sharing the same random coefficients creates a geometric connection for simple probes. Then, the apparent spatial wormhole causes a factorization puzzle. We argue that there is a spatial analog of half-wormholes, which resolves the puzzle in the similar way as the spacetime half-wormholes., 32 pages, 3 figures

In this paper we study the properties of two-dimensional CFTs defined by cyclic and symmetric orbifolds of free Dirac fermions, especially by focusing on the partition function and entanglement entropy. Via the bosonization, we construct the twist operators which glue two complex planes to calculate the partition function of Z_2 orbifold CFT on a torus. We also find an expression of Z_N cyclic orbifold in terms of Hecke operators, which provides an explicit relation between the partition functions of cyclic orbifolds and those of symmetric ones. We compute the entanglement entropy and Renyi entropy in cyclic orbifolds on a circle both for finite temperature states and for time-dependent states under quantum quenches. We find that the replica method calculation is highly non-trivial and new because of the contributions from replicas with different boundary conditions. We find the full expression for the Z_2 orbifold and show that the periodicity gets doubled. Finally, we discuss extensions of our results on entanglement entropy to symmetric orbifold CFTs and make a heuristic argument towards holographic CFTs., 54 pages, 8 figures

In this paper we study various dynamical aspects of the AdS/BCFT correspondence in higher dimensions. We study properties of holographic stress energy tensor by analyzing the metric perturbation in the gravity dual. We also calculate the stress energy tensor for a locally excited state on a half plane in a free scalar CFT. Both of them satisfy a reflective boundary condition that is expected for any BCFTs. We also study the behavior of the scalar field perturbation in the AdS/BCFT setup and show that they also show complete reflections. Moreover, we find that the entanglement entropy of a BCFT computed from the AdS/BCFT matched with that calculated from the Island formula, which supports the Island/BCFT correspondence in higher dimensions. A global quench is an interesting setting where we can study thermalization of subsystems in a pure state. We investigate entanglement entropy (EE) growth in global quenches in holographic field theories and relate some of its aspects to quantities characterizing chaos. More specifically we obtain four key results: 1. We prove holographic bounds on the entanglement velocity $v_E$ and the butterfly effect speed $v_B$ that arises in the study of chaos. 2. We obtain the EE as a function of time for large spherical entangling surfaces analytically. We show that the EE is insensitive to the details of the initial state or quench protocol. 3. In a thermofield double state we determine analytically the two-sided mutual information between two large concentric spheres separated in time. 4. We derive a bound on the rate of growth of EE for arbitrary shapes, and develop an expansion for EE at early times. In a companion paper arXiv:1608.05101, we put these results in the broader context of EE growth in chaotic systems: we relate EE growth to the chaotic spreading of operators, derive bounds on EE at a given time, and compare the holographic results to spin chain numerics and toy models. In this paper a Penrose limit is constructed for type IIB $AdS_6\times S^2\times \Sigma$ supergravity solutions. These solutions are dual to five dimensional SCFTs related to (p,q) five brane webs, which can often be described in terms of long quiver gauge theories. The null geodesic from which the Penrose limit is constructed is localized at a unique point on the two dimensional Riemann surface $\Sigma$, where the $AdS_6$ and $S^2$ metric factors are extremal. The resulting pp-wave spacetime takes a universal form. We classify the necessary and sufficient conditions to obtain the near-horizon geometry of extremal supersymmetric rotating black holes embedded in 11d supergravity. Such rotating black holes admit an AdS$_2$ near-horizon geometry which is fibered by the transverse spacetime directions. Despite their clear interest to understanding the entropy of rotating black holes, these solutions have evaded all previous supersymmetric classification programs due to the non-trivial fibration structure. In this paper we allow for the most general fibration over AdS$_2$ with a flux configuration permitting rotating M2-branes. Using G-structure techniques we rewrite the conditions for supersymmetry in terms of differential equations on an eight-dimensional balanced space. The 9d compact internal space is a U$(1)$-fibration over this 8d base. The geometry is constrained by a master equation reminiscent of the one found in the non-rotating case. We give a Lagrangian from which the equations of motion may be derived, and show how the asymptotically AdS$_4$ electrically charged Kerr-Newman black hole in 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity is embedded in the classification. In addition, we present the conditions for the near-horizon geometry of rotating black strings in Type IIB by using dualities with the 11d setup., Comment: 31 pages plus appendix

An important open question in black hole thermodynamics is about the existence of a "mass gap" between an extremal black hole and the lightest near-extremal state within a sector of fixed charge. In this paper, we reliably compute the partition function of Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m near-extremal black holes at temperature scales comparable to the conjectured gap. We find that the density of states at fixed charge does not exhibit a gap; rather, at the expected gap energy scale, we see a continuum of states. We compute the partition function in the canonical and grand canonical ensembles, keeping track of all the fields appearing through a dimensional reduction on $S^2$ in the near-horizon region. In this paper we provide a Chern-Simons gravity dual of a two dimensional conformal field theory on a manifold with boundaries, so called boundary conformal field theory (BCFT). We determine the correct boundary action on the end of the world brane in the Chern-Simons gauge theory. This reproduces known results of the AdS/BCFT for the Einstein gravity. We also give a prescription of calculating holographic entanglement entropy by employing Wilson lines which extend from the AdS boundary to the end of the world brane. We revisit the construction in four-dimensional gauged $Spin(4)$ supergravity of the holographic duals to topologically twisted three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ field theories. Our focus in this paper is to highlight some subtleties related to preserving supersymmetry in AdS/CFT, namely the inclusion of finite counterterms and the necessity of a Legendre transformation to find the dual to the field theory generating functional. Studying the geometry of these supergravity solutions, we conclude that the gravitational free energy is indeed independent from the metric of the boundary, and it vanishes for any smooth solution., 37 pages

In the context of holography, entanglement entropy can be studied either by i) extremal surfaces or ii) bit threads, i.e., divergenceless vector fields with a norm bound set by the Planck length. In this paper we develop a new method for metric reconstruction based on the latter approach and show the advantages over existing ones. We start by studying general linear perturbations around the vacuum state. Generic thread configurations turn out to encode the information about the metric in a highly nonlocal way, however, we show that for boundary regions with a local modular Hamiltonian there is always a canonical choice for the perturbed thread configurations that exploits bulk locality. To do so, we express the bit thread formalism in terms of differential forms so that it becomes manifestly background independent. We show that the Iyer-Wald formalism provides a natural candidate for a canonical local perturbation, which can be used to recast the problem of metric reconstruction in terms of the inversion of a particular linear differential operator. We examine in detail the inversion problem for the case of spherical regions and give explicit expressions for the inverse operator in this case. Going beyond linear order, we argue that the operator that must be inverted naturally increases in order. However, the inversion can be done recursively at different orders in the perturbation. This is a long-overdue companion paper to [1]. We study the relation between sl(3|2) Chern-Simons supergravity on AdS3 and two-dimensional CFT’s with N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 super- W 3 $$ {\mathcal{W}}_3 $$ symmetry. Specifically, we carry out a complete analysis of asymptotic symmetries in a basis that makes the superconformal structure transparent, allowing us to establish the precise dictionary between currents and transformation parameters in the bulk and their boundary counterparts. We also discuss the incorporation of sources and display in full detail the corresponding holographic Ward identities. By imposing suitable hermiticity conditions on the CFT currents, we identify the superalgebra su(2, 1|1, 1) as the appropriate real form of sl(3|2) in Lorentzian signature. We take the opportunity to review some of the properties of the N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 super- W 3 $$ {\mathcal{W}}_3 $$ conformal algebra, including its multiplet structure, OPE’s and spectral flow invariance, correcting some minor typos present in the literature.

We construct the CFT dual of the first law of spherical causal diamonds in three-dimensional AdS spacetime. A spherically symmetric causal diamond in AdS$_3$ is the domain of dependence of a spatial circular disk with vanishing extrinsic curvature. The bulk first law relates the variations of the area of the boundary of the disk, the spatial volume of the disk, the cosmological constant and the matter Hamiltonian. In this paper we specialize to first-order metric variations from pure AdS to the conical defect spacetime, and the bulk first law is derived following a coordinate based approach. The AdS/CFT dictionary connects the area of the boundary of the disk to the differential entropy in CFT$_2$, and assuming the `complexity=volume' conjecture, the volume of the disk is considered to be dual to the complexity of a cutoff CFT. On the CFT side we explicitly compute the differential entropy and holographic complexity for the vacuum state and the excited state dual to conical AdS using the kinematic space formalism. As a result, the boundary dual of the bulk first law relates the first-order variations of differential entropy and complexity to the variation of the scaling dimension of the excited state, which corresponds to the matter Hamiltonian variation in the bulk. We also include the variation of the central charge with associated chemical potential in the boundary first law. Form factors in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory have a dual description in terms of periodic Wilson loops. This duality maps the multi-collinear expansion of the former to an operator product expansion of the latter. The coefficients of this expansion are decomposed in terms of several elementary building blocks and can be determined at finite 't Hooft coupling using bootstrap and integrability techniques. Some of these blocks are known from an analogous expansion of scattering amplitudes. In addition to these, the expansion for form factors includes a new type of building block, called {\it form factor transitions}, that encode information about the local operator. In the present paper, we consider the form factor of the chiral part of the stress-tensor supermultiplet. We bootstrap the corresponding form factor transitions of two-particle flux-tube states and use them to predict the leading term in the collinear expansion at finite coupling. The transitions we find can be expressed in terms of a quantity that previously appeared in a seemingly unrelated context, namely the octagon kernel. Lastly, we use a factorized ansatz to determine the multi-particle form factor transitions at finite coupling, which we use to predict the first subleading term in the collinear expansion. Recently, the reflected entropy is proposed in holographic approach to describe the entanglement of a bipartite quantum system in a mixed state, which is identified as the area of the reflected minimal surface inside the entanglement wedge. In this paper, we study the reflected entropy in the doubly holographic setup, which contains the degrees of freedom of quantum matter in the bulk. In this context, we propose a notion of quantum entanglement wedge cross-section, which may describe the reflected entropy with higher-order quantum corrections. We numerically compute the reflected entropy in pure AdS background and black hole background in four dimensions, respectively. In general, the reflected entropy contains the contribution from the geometry on the brane and the contribution from the CFT. We compute their proportion for different Newton constants and find that their behaviors are in agreement with the results based on the semi-classical gravity and the correlation of CFT coupled to the bath CFT., Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures, minor correction, published version

In this paper, we obtain some general results on information retrieval from the black hole interior, based on the recent progress on quantum extremal surface formula and entanglement island. We study an AdS black hole coupled to a bath with generic dynamics, and ask whether it is possible to retrieve information about a small perturbation in the interior from the bath system. We derive a state reconstruction formula based on one norm. However, we show that a contradiction arises if we apply this result to a special situation when the bath dynamics includes a unitary operation that carries a particular measurement to a region $A$ and send the result to another region $W$. Physically, the contradiction arises between transferability of classical information during the measurement, and non-transferability of quantum information which determines the entanglement island. We propose that the resolution of the contradiction is to realize that the state reconstruction formula does not apply to the special situation involving interior-information-retrieving measurements. This implies that the assumption of smooth replica AdS geometry with boundary condition set by the flat space bath has to break down when the particular measurement operator is applied to the bath. Using replica trick, we introduce an explicitly construction of such operator, which we name as "miracle operators". From this construction we see that the smooth replica geometry assumption breaks down because we have to introduce extra replica wormholes connecting with the "simulated blackholes" introduced by the miracle operator. The central dogma of black hole physics -- which says that from the outside a black hole can be described in terms of a quantum system with exp$(\text{Area}/4G_N)$ states evolving unitarily -- has recently been supported by computations indicating that the interior of the black hole is encoded in the Hawking radiation of the exterior. In this paper, we probe whether such a dogma for cosmological horizons has any support from similar computations. The fact that the de Sitter bifurcation surface is a minimax surface (instead of a maximin surface) causes problems with this interpretation when trying to import calculations analogous to the AdS case. This suggests anchoring extremal surfaces to the horizon itself, where we formulate a two-sided extremization prescription and find answers consistent with general expectations for a quantum theory of de Sitter space: vanishing total entropy, an entropy of $A/4G_N$ when restricting to a single static patch, an entropy of a subregion of the horizon which grows as the region size grows until an island-like transition at half the horizon size when the entanglement wedge becomes the entire static patch interior, and a de Sitter version of the Hartman-Maldacena transition., Comment: 24 pages, three appendices. v2-v3 references added

According to Witten [1], the conformal boundary condition of gravity, which specifies the conformal geometry of the boundary and the trace of the extrinsic curvature, is elliptic and leads to well-defined perturbation theory of gravity about any classical solution. The conformal boundary condition was previously considered in [2, 3] in the context of AdS/BCFT, wherein the equation of motion of the end-of-the-world was derived and emphasized. In this paper, we investigate further other consequences of the conformal boundary condition in AdS/BCFT. We derive the boundary central charges of the holographic Weyl anomaly and show that they are exactly the same for conformal boundary condition and Dirichlet boundary condition. We analysis the metric perturbation with conformal boundary condition (CBC), Dirichlet boundary condition (DBC) and Neumann boundary condition (NBC) imposed on the end-of-the-world brane and show that they admit an interpretation as the fluctuation of the extrinsic curvature (case of CBC and DBC) and the induced metric (case of NBC) of Q respectively. In all cases, the fluctuation modes are massive, which are closely relevant to the massive island formation in the literature. Our results reveal that there are non-trivial gravitational dynamics from extrinsic curvatures on the conformal and Dirichlet branes, which may have interesting applications to the island. We also discuss, in passing, the localization of gravitons in brane world theory. AdS$_7$ supersymmetric solutions in type IIA have been classified, and they are infinitely many. Moreover, every such solution has a non-supersymmetric sister. In this paper, we study the perturbative and non-perturbative stability of these non-supersymmetric solutions, focusing on cases without orientifolds. Perturbatively, we first look at the KK spectrum of spin-2 excitations. This does not exhibit instabilities, but it does show that there is no separation of scales for either the BPS and the non-BPS case, thus proving for supersymmetric AdS$_7$ a well-known recent conjecture. We then use 7d gauged supergravity and a brane polarization computation to access part of the spectrum of KK scalars. The result signals an instability for all non-supersymmetric solutions except those that have a single D8 on each side. We finally look at non-perturbative instabilities, and find that NS5 bubbles make these remaining solutions decay., Comment: 1+42 pages, 3 figures

We establish a version of the Momentum/Complexity (PC) duality between the rate of operator complexity growth and an appropriately defined radial component of bulk momentum for a test system falling into a black hole. In systems of finite entropy, our map remains valid for arbitrarily late times after scrambling. The asymptotic regime of linear complexity growth is associated to a frozen momentum in the interior of the black hole, measured with respect to a time foliation by extremal codimension-one surfaces which saturate without reaching the singularity. The detailed analysis in this paper uses the Volume-Complexity (VC) prescription and an infalling system consisting of a thin shell of dust, but the final PC duality formula should have a much wider degree of generality.

It is a well-studied phenomenon in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ that pure states often appear 'too thermal' in the classical gravity limit, leading to a version of the information puzzle. One example is the case of a heavy scalar primary state, whose associated classical geometry is the BTZ black hole. Another example is provided by a heavy left-moving primary, which displays late time decay in chiral correlators. In this paper we study a special class of pure state geometries which do not display such information loss. They describe heavy CFT states created by a collection of chiral operators at various positions on the complex plane. In the bulk, these take the form of multi-centered solutions from the backreaction of a collection of spinning particles, which we construct for circular distributions of particles. We compute the two-point function of probe operators in these backgrounds and show that information is retrieved. We observe that the states for which our geometric picture is reliable are highly extended star-like objects in the bulk description. BPS Wilson loops in supersymmetric gauge theories have been the subjects of active research since they are often amenable to exact computation. So far most of the studies have focused on loops that do not intersect. In this paper, we derive exact results for intersecting 1/8 BPS Wilson loops in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, using a combination of supersymmetric localization and the loop equation in 2d gauge theory. The result is given by a novel matrix-model-like representation which couples multiple contour integrals and a Gaussian matrix model. We evaluate the integral at large N, and make contact with the string worldsheet description at strong coupling. As an application of our results, we compute exactly a small-angle limit (and more generally near-BPS limits) of the cross anomalous dimension which governs the UV divergence of intersecting Wilson lines. The Entanglement contour function quantifies the contribution from each degree of freedom in a region $\mathcal{A}$ to the entanglement entropy $S_{\mathcal{A}}$. Recently in \cite{Wen:2018whg} the author gave two proposals for the entanglement contour in two-dimensional theories. The first proposal is a fine structure analysis of the entanglement wedge which applies to holographic theories. The second proposal is a claim that for general two-dimensional theories the partial entanglement entropy is given by a linear combination of entanglement entropies of relevant subsets inside $\mathcal{A}$. In this paper we further study the partial entanglement entropy proposal by showing that it satisfies all the rational requirements proposed previously. We also extend the fine structure analysis from vacuum AdS space to BTZ black holes. It is believed that thermalization drives the reduced density matrix of a subsystem to approach a short-range entangled operator. If the initial state is also short-range entangled, it is possible that the reduced density matrix remains low-entangled throughout thermalization; or there could exist a barrier with high operator entanglement between the initial and thermalized reduced density matrix. In this paper, we study such dynamics in three classes of models: the rational CFTs, the random unitary circuit, and the holographic CFTs, representing systems of increasing quantum chaoticity. We show that in all three classes of models, the operator entanglement (or variant of) exhibits three phases, a linear growth phase, a plateau phase, and a decay phase. The plateau phase characterized by volume-law operator entanglement corresponds to the barrier in operator entanglement. While it is present in all three models, its persistence and exit show interesting distinctions among them. The rational CFTs have the shortest plateau phase, followed by the slowest decay phase; the holographic CFTs mark the opposite end, i.e. having the longest plateau phase followed by a discontinuous drop; and the random unitary circuit shows the intermediate behavior. In this paper, we present a simple and iterative algorithm that computes Witten diagrams. We focus on the gauge correlators in AdS in four dimensions in momentum space. These new combinatorial relations will allow one to generate tree level amplitudes algebraically, without having to do any explicit bulk integrations; hence, leading to a simple method of calculating higher point gauge amplitudes.

Two distinct $\eta$-deformations of strings on AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ can be defined; both amount to integrable quantum deformations of the string non-linear sigma model, but only one is itself a superstring background. In this paper we compare their conjectured all-loop worldsheet S matrices and derive the corresponding Bethe equations. We find that, while the S matrices are apparently different, they lead to the same Bethe equations. Moreover, in either case the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix, which encode the conserved charges of each system, also coincide. We conclude that the integrable structure underlying the two constructions is essentially the same. The boundary correlation functions for a Quantum Field Theory (QFT) in an Anti-de Sitter (AdS) background can stay conformally covariant even if the bulk theory undergoes a renormalization group (RG) flow. Studying such correlation functions with the numerical conformal bootstrap leads to non-perturbative constraints that must hold along the entire flow. In this paper we carry out this analysis for the sine-Gordon RG flows in AdS$_2$, which start with a free (compact) scalar in the UV and end with well-known massive integrable theories that saturate many S-matrix bootstrap bounds. We numerically analyze the correlation functions of both breathers and kinks and provide a detailed comparison with perturbation theory near the UV fixed point. The "quantum complexity" of a unitary operator measures the difficulty of its construction from a set of elementary quantum gates. While the notion of quantum complexity was first introduced as a quantum generalization of the classical computational complexity, it has since been argued to hold a fundamental significance in its own right, as a physical quantity analogous to the thermodynamic entropy. In this paper, we present a unified perspective on various notions of quantum complexity, viewed as functions on the space of unitary operators. One striking feature of these functions is that they can exhibit non-smooth and even fractal behaviour. We use ideas from Diophantine approximation theory and sub-Riemannian geometry to rigorously quantify this lack of smoothness. Form factors in planar N=4 Super-Yang-Mills theory admit a type of non-perturbative operator product expansion (OPE), as we have recently shown in arXiv:2009.11297. This expansion is based on a decomposition of the dual periodic Wilson loop into elementary building blocks: the known pentagon transitions and a new object that we call form factor transition, which encodes the information about the local operator. In this paper, we compute the two-particle form factor transitions for the chiral part of the stress-tensor supermultiplet at Born level; they yield the leading contribution to the OPE. To achieve this, we explicitly construct the Gubser-Klebanov-Polyakov two-particle singlet states. In this paper, we continue our study of form factors and correlation functions of gauge-invariant local composite operators in the twistor-space formulation of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. Using the vertices for these operators obtained in our recent papers arXiv:1603.04471 and arXiv:1604.00012, we show how to calculate the twistor-space diagrams for general N^kMHV form factors via the inverse soft limit, in analogy to the amplitude case. For general operators without $\dot\alpha$ indices, we then reexpress the NMHV form factors from the position-twistor calculation in terms of momentum twistors, deriving and expanding on a relation between the two twistor formalisms previously observed in the case of amplitudes. We propose a closed-form formula for genus 0 four-point functions in AdS3 string theory with pure NS-NS flux including arbitrary amounts of spectral flow. Our formula passes many non-trivial consistency checks and has intriguing connections to Hurwitz theory. This paper is the second in a series with several instalments.

This paper provides a holographic approach to compute some most-frequently used quantum distances and quasi-distances in strongly coupling systems and conformal field theories. By choosing modular ground state as the reference state, it finds that the trace distance, Fubini-Study distance, Bures distance and Rényi relative entropy, all have gravity duals. Their gravity duals have two equivalent descriptions: one is given by the integration of the area of a cosmic brane, the other one is given by the Euclidian on-shell action of dual theory and the area of the cosmic brane. It then applies these duals into the 2-dimensional conformal field theory as examples and finds the results match with the computations of field theory exactly.

We present a doubly holographic prescription for computing entanglement entropy on a gravitating brane. It involves a Ryu-Takayanagi surface with a Dirichlet anchoring condition. In braneworld cosmology, a related approach was used previously in arXiv:2007.06551. There, the prescription naturally computed a co-moving entanglement entropy, and was argued to resolve the information paradox for a black hole living in the cosmology. In this paper, we show that the Dirichlet prescription leads to reasonable results, when applied to a recently studied wedge holography set up with a gravitating bath. The nature of the information paradox and its resolution in our Dirichlet problem have a natural understanding in terms of the strength of gravity on the two branes and at the anchoring location. By sliding the anchor to the defect, we demonstrate that the limit where gravity decouples from the anchor is continuous -- in other words, as far as island physics is considered, weak gravity on the anchor is identical to no gravity. The weak and (moderately) strong gravity regions on the brane are separated by a "Dirichlet wall". We find an intricate interplay between various extremal surfaces, with an island coming to the rescue whenever there is an information paradox. This is despite the presence of massless gravitons in the spectrum. The overall physics is consistent with the slogan that gravity becomes "more holographic", as it gets stronger. Our observations strengthen the case that the conventional Page curve is indeed of significance, when discussing the information paradox in flat space. We work in high enough dimensions so that the graviton is non-trivial, and our results are in line with the previous discussions on gravitating baths in arXiv:2005.02993 and arXiv:2007.06551., v2: more discussions, references, JHEP version (+ minor improvements). 25pp

We revisit the computation of string worldsheet correlators on Euclidean $\text{AdS}_3$ with pure NS-NS background. We compute correlation functions with insertions of spectrally flowed operators. We explicitly solve all the known constraints of the model and for the first time conjecture a closed formula for three-point functions with arbitrary amount of spectral flow. We explain the relation of our results with previous computations in the literature and derive the fusion rules of the model. In this paper, we obtain for the first time an explicit expression for this superfield in an AdS5 × S5 background. Previously, the vertex operators were only known close to the boundary of AdS5 or in the minus eight picture. Our strategy for the computation was to apply eight picture raising operators in the minus eight picture vertices. In the process, a huge number of terms are generated and we have developed numerical techniques to perform intermediary simplifications. Alternatively, the same numerical techniques can be used to compute the vertices directly in the zero picture by constructing a basis of invariants and fitting for the coefficients. One motivation for constructing the vertex operators is the computation of AdS5 × S5 string amplitudes. New techniques based on Exceptional Field Theory have recently allowed for the calculation of the Kaluza-Klein spectra of certain AdS4 solutions of D = 11 and massive IIA supergravity. These are the solutions that consistently uplift on S7 and S6 from vacua of maximal four-dimensional supergravity with SO(8) and ISO(7) gaugings. In this paper, we provide an algorithmic procedure to compute the complete Kaluza-Klein spectrum of five such AdS4 solutions, all of them $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1, and give the first few Kaluza-Klein levels. These solutions preserve SO(3) and U(1) × U(1) internal symmetry in D = 11, and U(1) (two of them) and no continuous symmetry in type IIA. Together with previously discussed cases, our results exhaust the Kaluza-Klein spectra of known supersymmetric AdS4 solutions in D = 11 and type IIA in the relevant class.

This paper describes the motion of a classical Nambu-Goto string in three-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime in terms of two `celestial' fields on the worldsheet. The fields correspond to retarded and advanced boundary times at which null rays emanating from the string reach the boundary. In the present paper we construct all short representation of so(3, 2) with the sl(2, ℂ) symmetry made manifest due to the use of sl(2, ℂ) spinors. This construction has a natural connection to the spinor-helicity formalism for massless fields in AdS4 suggested earlier. We then study unitarity of the resulting representations, identify them as the lowest-weight modules and as conformal fields in the three-dimensional Minkowski space. Finally, we compare these results with the existing literature and discuss the properties of these representations under contraction of so(3, 2) to the Poincare algebra.

In this paper we study lumpy black holes with AdSp × Sqasymptotics, where the isometry group coming from the sphere factor is broken down to SO(q). Depending on the values ofpandq, these are solutions to a certain Supergravity theory with a particular gauge field. We have considered the values (p, q) = (5,5) and (p, q) = (4,7), corresponding to type IIB supergravity in ten dimensions and eleven-dimensional supergravity respectively. These theories presumably contain an infinite spectrum of families of lumpy black holes, labeled by a harmonic numberℓ, whose endpoints in solution space merge with another type of black holes with different horizon topology. We have numerically constructed the first four families of lumpy solutions, corresponding toℓ= 1,2+,2−and 3. We show that the geometry of the horizon near the merger is well-described by a cone over a triple product of spheres, thus extending Kol’s local model to the present asymptotics. Interestingly, the presence of non-trivial fluxes in the internal sphere implies that the cone is no longer Ricci flat. This conical manifold accounts for the geometry and the behavior of the physical quantities of the solutions sufficiently close to the critical point. Additionally, we show that the vacuum expectation values of the dual scalar operators approach their critical values with a power law whose exponents are dictated by the local cone geometry in the bulk.

It was recently observed that boundary correlators of the elementary scalar field of the Liouville theory on AdS2 background are the same (up to a non-trivial proportionality coefficient) as the correlators of the chiral stress tensor of the Liouville CFT on the complex plane restricted to the real line. The same relation generalizes to the conformal abelian Toda theory: boundary correlators of Toda scalars on AdS2 are directly related to the correlation functions of the chiral W $$ \mathcal{W} $$ -symmetry generators in the Toda CFT and thus are essentially controlled by the underlying infinite-dimensional symmetry. These may be viewed as examples of AdS2/CFT1 duality where the CFT1 is the chiral half of a 2d CFT; we shall to this as AdS 2 / CFT 2 1 2 $$ {\mathrm{AdS}}_2/{\mathrm{CFT}}_2^{\raisebox{1ex}{$1$}\!\left/ \!\raisebox{-1ex}{$2$}\right.} $$ . In this paper we demonstrate that this duality applies also to the non-abelian Toda theory containing a Liouville scalar coupled to a 2d σ-model originating from the SL(2, ℝ)/U(1) gauged WZW model. Here the Liouville scalar is again dual to the chiral stress tensor T while the other two scalars are dual to the parafermionic operators V ± of the non-abelian Toda CFT. We explicitly check the duality at the next-to-leading order in the large central charge expansion by matching the chiral CFT correlators of (T, V +, V −) (computed using a free field representation) with the boundary correlators of the three Toda scalars given by the tree-level and one-loop Witten diagrams in AdS2.

The relative entropy is a measure of the distinguishability of two quantum states. A great deal of progress has been made in the study of the relative entropy between an excited state and the vacuum state of a conformal field theory (CFT) reduced to a spherical region. For example, when the excited state is a small perturbation of the vacuum state, the relative entropy is known to have a universal expression for \textit{all} CFT's \cite{Faulk-GR-entanglement}. Specifically, the perturbative relative entropy can be written as the symplectic flux of a certain scalar field in an \textit{auxiliary} AdS-Rindler spacetime \cite{Faulk-GR-entanglement}. Moreover, if the CFT has a semi-classical holographic dual, the relative entropy is known to be related to conserved charges in the bulk dual spacetime \cite{lashkari2016gravitational}. In this paper, we introduce a one-parameter generalization of the relative entropy which we call \textit{refined} R\'enyi relative entropy. We study this quantity in CFT's and find a one-parameter generalization of the aforementioned known results about the relative entropy. We investigate half-BPS Type IIB supergravity solutions with spacetime geometry AdS2 × S 6 warped over a Riemann surface Σ. The general local solution was obtained in earlier work in terms of two holomorphic functions $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{\pm } $$ A ± on Σ. In the first part of this paper we seek global solutions corresponding to the near-horizon behavior of (p, q)-string junctions. We identify the type of singularity in $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{\pm } $$ A ± needed at the boundary of Σ to match the solutions locally onto the classic (p, q)-string solution. We construct solutions with multiple (p, q)-strings, but the existence of geodesically complete solutions remains unsettled. In a second part we construct multi-parameter families of non-compact globally regular and geodesically complete solutions with asymptotic regions and an AdS2 throat which caps off smoothly.
