Purpose: The study examined the effect of employee job satisfaction on employee productivity, assessing the impact of communication as an indicator of job satisfaction in the Nigerian federal civil service. A part of efforts to achieve the eight Sustainable Development Goal of Decent Work and Economic Growth by 2030. Theoretical Framework: Low performance and high turnover rates can result from job dissatisfaction which has been peculiar case in the public and private sector, attempt to deal with it has not been yielding positive result in the civil service in Nigeria (Rinny et al., 2020; Sadiq et al. 2020). Therefore, there is need to empirically investigate the impact of communication on employee productivity in Nigerian federal civil service which lacks sufficient research. Methodology: The study used a survey research design and purposive non-probability sampling where the data are collected through the distribution of 2,836 questionnaires to the staff of 10 Nigerian federal civil services. In order to gather data for the study, Demographic data were analyzed using basic descriptive statistical methods like mean, percentages, and standard deviations, while inferential statistics were analyzed using econometric methods like multiple and logistic regression, as well as Karl Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficients. Findings: Finding of the study showed that employee productivity is strongly and favorably affected by (communication) as proxy for job satisfaction. Nonetheless, in the Nigerian Federal Civil Service, the interaction of work environment moderating between communication had no impact on employee productivity. In a world that has rapidly transformed through the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), our systematic review, guided by the PRISMA protocol, investigates a decade of AI research, revealing insights into its evolution and impact. Our study, examining 3,767 articles, has drawn considerable attention, as evidenced by an impressive 63,577 citations, underscoring the scholarly community's profound engagement. Our study reveals a collaborative landscape with 18,189 contributing authors, reflecting a robust network of researchers advancing AI and machine learning applications. Review categories focus on systematic reviews and bibliometric analyses, indicating an increasing emphasis on comprehensive literature synthesis and quantitative analysis. The findings also suggest an opportunity to explore emerging methodologies such as topic modeling and meta-analysis. We dissect the state of the art presented in these reviews, finding themes throughout the broad scholarly discourse through thematic clustering and BERTopic modeling. Categorization of study articles across fields of research indicates dominance in Information and Computing Sciences, followed by Biomedical and Clinical Sciences. Subject categories reveal interconnected clusters across various sectors, notably in healthcare, engineering, business intelligence, and computational technologies. Semantic analysis via BERTopic revealed nineteen clusters mapped to themes such as AI in health innovations, AI for sustainable development, AI and deep learning, AI in education, and ethical considerations. Future research directions are suggested, emphasizing the need for intersectional bias mitigation, holistic health approaches, AI's role in environmental sustainability, and the ethical deployment of generative AI.

Over recent years, the Circular Economy (CE) has turned into a debated area worldwide as a way of achieving a more sustainable society. However, little is known about how companies can disclose CE-related activities in their corporate reporting. This paper aims to explore how and to what extent CE-related information is included in Integrated Reporting (IR) practices by promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study applies qualitative content analysis and thematic analysis approaches to explore the associations with CE, IR, the six capitals and SDGs. The institutional theory approach has been adopted to justify incorporating CE R-principles activities into IR practices. Multiple case study findings demonstrate that every case company minimum one time cites the CE R principle, while case companies seen to be more involved in the reduce (R1), reuse (R2) and recycle (R7) are engaged with IR practices and focussing on SDGs. Whereas coercive, normative, and mimetic isomorphism mechanism substantially impacts CE activities concerning IR practices, we can argue that mimetic isomorphisms need further investigation because no structures and frameworks are available. In terms of managerial implications, this study proposed a combined framework of CE and IR that provides a conceptual picture of how CE activities intermesh with the IR framework and the six capitals, both essential for the Sustainable Development (SD) agenda participation and value creation process of companies.

This study explores the interaction between the emission trading system and the Sustainable Development Goals. Using an empirical analysis of a sample of European installations covered by the Emission Trading System from 2016 to 2021, we assessed how the system internalized the costs of carbon emissions across economic sectors and analyzed its impact on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The results revealed that while the increased efficiency of the emissions trading system had positive effects on environmental taxation and the reduction in economic losses due to climate change, challenges persist in natural resource use and energy dependence. This study offers new insight into the carbon ability pricing policies to properly allocate environmental costs. This study highlights the importance of integrating complementary policy instruments to strengthen effectiveness, given the link between the selected sustainable development and circular economy variables. The results provide stakeholders and policymakers with essential information for optimizing environmental policies and developing integrated approaches. If well implemented, such policies can effectively contribute to the fight against climate change and promote sustainable development by reducing social and environmental costs.

In an era of rapidly advancing lighting technology and evolving public library roles, this study introduces a groundbreaking strategy for human-centric and integrative lighting asset management. Embracing both visual and non-visual effects, “integrative lighting” aims to enhance users’ physiological and psychological well-being. Despite technological progress, notably with LEDs, current asset management often lags, relying on reactionary measures rather than proactive strategies. As public libraries transform into dynamic learning hubs, the significance of indoor lighting, impacting both physical health and holistic well-being, cannot be understated. Yet, many existing solutions are based on controlled lab tests, bypassing the diverse real-world needs of public libraries. Aiming to explore and develop human-centric and integrative lighting asset management strategies to optimize lighting environments in public libraries, this research offers a cohesive approach encompassing context identification, a management framework, and a maturity assessment model. Additionally, this study highlights the synergy between the role of the lighting asset manager, ISO 55000 principles, and these foundational strategies. This holistic approach not only reinvents lighting in public libraries but also aligns it with the broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), advocating for light as a conduit of comprehensive human betterment. There is a growing trend for nutrient recovery from wastewater as part of the transition to a circular economy. Most nutrients in household wastewater originate from urine and one way to facilitate reuse of these nutrients is to concentrate the urine into fertiliser products. Urine concentration technologies are still in the development phase and not implemented at scale. The aim of this study was to provide guidance to technology developers and policymakers by assessing the environmental and societal impacts of urine concentration technologies. In particular, it includes practical aspects such as worker safety, space availability and local fertiliser needs that have not been included in previous studies. Future scenarios on implementing three different urine concentration technologies (alkaline dehydration, nitrification-distillation, ion-exchange with struvite precipitation) in a planned residential area in Malmö, Sweden, were developed. The technologies were evaluated using multi-criteria assessment (MCA), with environment, technical, economic and health sustainability criteria derived from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was found that all urine concentration technologies performed well against many of the sustainability criteria examined and can contribute to achieving SDGs, especially regarding nitrogen recovery. Specific areas for further development were identified for each technology. An impact assessment on scaling up demonstrated that nitrogen emissions to surface water were significantly reduced when more than 60% of urine in Malmö city was subjected to urine concentration. Nitrogen and phosphorus recovered from recycling only 15–30% of urine in Malmö could supply 50% of Malmö municipality's fertiliser demand.

In Bangladesh, people primarily depend on on-site sanitation facilities (OSSF) with an immense challenge in achieving safe sanitation due to unplanned infrastructure development, improper management of fecal sludge, and inadequate monitoring. The commitment of attaining Sustain-able Development Goals (SDG) 6.2 (ensuring safe sanitation for all) by 2030 requires immediate attention in the management of fecal sludge for low-middle income countries. This paper pre-sented the findings, challenges, and possible ways forward from a study conducted to provide data for Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based fecal sludge management (FSM) at a municipality in the northwest of Bangladesh. A total of 18,808 households and 407 institutions in Saidpur municipality, a non-sewered town in Nilphamari district, were studied to understand the type of containment structures and on-ground desludging practices. The study showed around 10% of containments were connected to the drains illegally, 95% of the people in Saidpur practiced unsafe disposal, and 7% still practiced open defecation. To identify these malpractices, the study also implemented an ICT-based sustainable solution through a web application that enabled the local administrator to have a global look at the sanitation scenario of the municipality. The dashboard was developed to create a total sanitation monitoring system, identify defaulters, allow target-based safe managed sanitation service strategies, and ensure sustainability in FSM. The study highlighted the accessibility of vacuum truck services projecting through a spatial map and identified methods to empty the septic tanks where Vacutag services are unavailable by engaging local pit emptiers. The innovative approach of fecal sludge man-agement will help not only to improve the existing sanitation practices but also raise community awareness to ensure sustainable sanitation system. Attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a critical issue for the United Nations in the 21st Century. These 17 SDGs have specific targets to achieve these goals. To achieve a more sustainable future, 193 countries agreed to work on these 17 SDGs by 2030. Out of these 17 SDGs, this paper focuses on attaining SDG 3 through indigenous knowledge. The researchers explored previous studies by other researchers worldwide and global reports related to medical plants. They discussed the role of folk medicine in attaining the third goal of sustainable development (SDG3). Target 3.3 of SDG 3 focuses on eliminating combat hepatitis, waterborne diseases, Malaria, and other communicable diseases, and target 3.4 of SDG 3 focuses on reducing non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment. Therefore, the focus of the study is to find out the specific plants which can be used for the treatment of various types of diseases through meta-analysis protocol and systematic reviews. Ninety articles are screened by keeping in view the set criteria. The study selected 50 scientific papers after excluding some papers due to the unavailability of full papers and duplicate copies of the articles. The researchers selected those papers whose citation is good. Previous researchers discussed that some plants and their parts—folk medicines— are often used to cure various communicable and non-communicable diseases like diabetes, cancer, Malaria, COVID-19, infections, pain, liver problems, etc., by certain groups and communities due to its lesser price, effortlessness, easy accessibility and affordability.

[Resumen]: El objetivo principal de este trabajo de fin de grado consiste en desarrollar una aplicación de gestión y coordinación de voluntariado de código abierto que permita a cualquier persona convertirse en voluntario y participar en proyectos gestionados por Plataforma Coruñesa de Voluntariado, el administrador de la aplicación, y sus entidades colaboradoras bajo un mismo sistema. Así, se consigue una mayor visualización de los proyectos de voluntariado que están coordinados por los representantes de cada entidad y se facilita la gestión y el control de la actividad del voluntariado a sus coordinadores, los cuáles pueden ser dados de alta en el sistema por el administrador. Para conseguir la realización de este objetivo fue necesario, en primer lugar, conocer las necesidades reales de las entidades, convertirlas a historias de usuario y validarlas con las pruebas de aceptación a través de una metodología iterativa e incremental para el desarrollo de software donde se llevaron a término. La aplicación que se creó durante el proceso de desarrollo del proyecto contiene un conjunto de tecnologías de actualidad entre las que destacan PostgreSQL para la base de datos que está complementada con un sistema de ficheros tradicional, distintos servicios webs hechos en Java usando el framework de Spring, y un cliente web con librerías JavaScript y React., [Abstract]: The main objective of this end-of-degree project is to develop an open-source volunteer management and coordination tool that allows anyone to become a volunteer and participate in projects managed by “Plataforma Coruñesa de Voluntariado” who acts as administrator and its collaborating entities under the same system. Thus, a greater visualization of the volunteer projects that are coordinated by the representatives of each entity is achieved as well as the management and control of the volunteer activity is facilitated to its coordinators who might be registered by the administrator in the system. With the aim of attaining this objective, it was necessary to know the real needs of the entities, turn them into user stories and validate them with acceptance tests through an iterative and incremental methodology for software development where they were carried out. The application which was developed during the development process of this project uses a modern technology stack that incorporates PostgreSQL as its information persistence technology which is accompanied by a traditional file system, different web services that are made in Java using Spring framework, and a web client with JavaScript and React libraries.

Attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a critical issue for the United Nations in the 21st Century. These 17 SDGs have specific targets to achieve these goals. To achieve a more sustainable future, 193 countries agreed to work on these 17 SDGs by 2030. Out of these 17 SDGs, this paper focuses on attaining SDG 3 through indigenous knowledge. The researchers explored previous studies by other researchers worldwide and global reports related to medical plants. They discussed the role of folk medicine in attaining the third goal of sustainable development (SDG3). Target 3.3 of SDG 3 focuses on eliminating combat hepatitis, waterborne diseases, Malaria, and other communicable diseases, and target 3.4 of SDG 3 focuses on reducing non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment. Therefore, the focus of the study is to find out the specific plants which can be used for the treatment of various types of diseases through meta-analysis protocol and systematic reviews. Ninety articles are screened by keeping in view the set criteria. The study selected 50 scientific papers after excluding some papers due to the unavailability of full papers and duplicate copies of the articles. The researchers selected those papers whose citation is good. Previous researchers discussed that some plants and their parts—folk medicines— are often used to cure various communicable and non-communicable diseases like diabetes, cancer, Malaria, COVID-19, infections, pain, liver problems, etc., by certain groups and communities due to its lesser price, effortlessness, easy accessibility and affordability.

The current editorial discusses child marriage, a human rights violation and a chronic problem across India. Despite several laws and acts against the practice, and recent arrests made in Assam, India, the problem still persists and has been found to be dominant in the rural areas, among poor families with lower education levels. This study makes an attempt to deliberate upon various reasons leading to child marriage and the implications of child marriage which is negatively affecting the health and well–being of women and children, thereby triggering the maternal and infant mortality rate across the country. The study stresses that to achieve the target set by Sustainable Development Goal 5.3 on gender equality to eliminate child marriage by 2030, effective interventions from all quarters, along with stringent laws and proper policies are essential.

There is a growing trend for nutrient recovery from wastewater as part of the transition to a circular economy. Most nutrients in household wastewater originate from urine and one way to facilitate reuse of these nutrients is to concentrate the urine into fertiliser products. Urine concentration technologies are still in the development phase and not implemented at scale. The aim of this study was to provide guidance to technology developers and policymakers by assessing the environmental and societal impacts of urine concentration technologies. In particular, it includes practical aspects such as worker safety, space availability and local fertiliser needs that have not been included in previous studies. Future scenarios on implementing three different urine concentration technologies (alkaline dehydration, nitrification-distillation, ion-exchange with struvite precipitation) in a planned residential area in Malmö, Sweden, were developed. The technologies were evaluated using multi-criteria assessment (MCA), with environment, technical, economic and health sustainability criteria derived from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was found that all urine concentration technologies performed well against many of the sustainability criteria examined and can contribute to achieving SDGs, especially regarding nitrogen recovery. Specific areas for further development were identified for each technology. An impact assessment on scaling up demonstrated that nitrogen emissions to surface water were significantly reduced when more than 60% of urine in Malmö city was subjected to urine concentration. Nitrogen and phosphorus recovered from recycling only 15–30% of urine in Malmö could supply 50% of Malmö municipality's fertiliser demand.

INTRODUCTION: Human health and wellbeing may depend on economic growth, the implication being that policymakers need to choose between population health and the health of ecosystems. Over two decades of low economic growth, Japan's life expectancy grew. Here we assess the temporal changes of subjective health and health inequality during the long-term low economic growth period. METHODS: Eight triennial cross-sectional nationally representative surveys in Japan over the period of economic stagnation from 1992 to 2013 were used (n = 625,262). Health is defined positively as wellbeing, and negatively as poor health, based on self-rated health. We used Slope and Relative Indices of Inequality to model inequalities in self-rated health based on household income. Temporal changes in health and health inequalities over time were examined separately for children/adolescents, working-age adults, young-old and old-old. RESULTS: At the end of the period of economic stagnation (2013), compared to the beginning (1992), the overall prevalence of wellbeing declined slightly in all age groups. However, poor health was stable or declined in the young-old and old-old, respectively, and increased only in working-age adults (Prevalence ratio: 1.14, 95% CI 1.08, 1.20, <0.001). Over time, inequality in wellbeing and poor self-rated health were observed in adults but less consistently for children, but the inequalities did not widen in any age group between the start and end of the stagnation period. CONCLUSIONS: Although this study was a case study of one country, Japan, and inference to other countries cannot be made with certainty, the findings provide evidence that low economic growth over two decades did not inevitably translate to unfavourable population health. This article responds to recent calls for more creative expressions of climate and sustainability transformations. In particular, research literature argues that the formulation of new narratives of sustainable societies may function as a prominent intervention for system changes. Yet, few empirical studies exist on how creative climate and sustainability storytelling elicit varying levels of awareness and engagement. With the intention to advance scholarship in the role of narratives to create engagement with sustainability transformations, this study investigates children’s theater for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as one research site. By analyzing the interactive children’s theater play “Esmeralda and the Dragon—The Global Sustainability Goals,” we show that creative storytelling can offer a meaningful space for engagement with Agenda 2030 and the UN SDGs. In particular, we find that (1) children’s cognitive and emotional associations and experiences shape the meaning of and responses to the SDGs and (2) the play’s fictional elements resonate with children’s emotional frameworks. Based on the results, we argue that new stories are needed for sustainability transformations and that there is transformative power in the creative and performance arts in this respect, and we call for further exploration of various publics engagements with sustainability storytelling.

The competence-based model focuses on acquiring skills and abilities, yet each student’s individual circumstances condition the way in which they learn, develop, and implement them. Accordingly, there is a growing interest in defining learning activities that consider the diverse range of intelligences, abilities, and prevailing mindsets in each individual in order to promote inclusive education and sustainable development. This article seeks to design a methodology for the teaching–learning resources associated with the nature of the prevailing intelligence in the competence-based model. Thus, the “competence-intelligence-resource triangle” was proposed for promoting inclusive education in the degree in Management Engineering at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). A total of 99 teaching–learning resources, 11 competences, and 9 types of intelligence were combined. As far as the multiple intelligence approach is concerned, the 50 students surveyed prioritized logical–mathematical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, linguistic, and spatial intelligences. As a conclusion, the use of teaching–learning resources designed for promoting different types of intelligence in the competence-based model constitutes an adaptive strategy for the students to successfully acquire competences.

The 1972 UN Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment (UNCHE) was ahead of its time in asserting that 'Man has the fundamental right to freedom, equality and adequate conditions of life, in an environment of a quality that permits a life of dignity and well-being'. Fifty years later, at Stockholm+50, the human rights approach to environment protection has been significantly consolidated in international law and governance. The article describes and reflects on these developments from the 1972 Stockholm Conference to the 2022 Stockholm Meeting. The consolidation of the human rights approach to environment protection results from normative advances at regional and global scales, further world summits on environment and sustainable development, international treaty-making to protect the environment and human rights, international policy documents and declarations, and remarkable jurisprudential developments. In parallel, fundamental rights relating to the environment have also been recognised in numerous national constitutions and laws. While the human rights approach is not a panacea to resolve all environmental concerns, and to ascertain due concerns for non-human species and interests that are not directly linked to human well-being, it is a key to ensure that no one is left behind in the pursuit for sustainable development and prosperity.

Financial Inclusion is a key factor in achieving the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. The research in the area of financial inclusion is becoming more critical for scholars and policymakers. In previous studies, effects of formal institutions on financial inclusion have been explored. However, influence of informal institutions (culture) on financial inclusion remained untapped. To fill this gap, we investigate how national culture affects the financial inclusion of 81 Belt and Road economies using 17 years of data from 2004 to 2020. The empirical findings of the two-stage least square (2SLS) show that Hofstede’s cultural dimensions are significantly associated with financial inclusion with different signs and levels of magnitude. We find that financial inclusion is lower in countries where uncertainty avoidance and power distance is high and that the opposite is true for individualism and masculinity. The overall results are reliable to a series of robustness checks and provide a useful basis for policymakers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders in achieving the sustainable development goal of financial inclusion in Belt and Road countries. © 2022 by the authors. For the last few years, cases of applying articial intelligence (AI) to engineering activitiestowards sustainability have been reported. Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) provides a potential to systematicallyreach higher and productivity levels, owing to its holistic perspective and consideration of economic andenvironmental targets. To address the current gap to more systematic deployment of AI with LCE (AI-LCE)we have performed a systematic literature review emphasizing the three aspects:(1) the most prevalent AItechniques, (2) the current AI-improved LCE subelds and (3) the subelds with highly enhanced by AI.A specic set of inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to identify and select academic papers fromseveral elds, i.e. production, logistics, marketing and supply chain and after the selection process describedin the paper we ended up with 42 scientic papers. The study and analysis show that there are manyAI-LCE papers addressing Sustainable Development Goals mainly addressing: Industry, Innovation, andInfrastructure; Sustainable Cities and Communities; and Responsible Consumption and Production. Overall,the papers give a picture of diverse AI techniques used in LCE. Production design and Maintenance andRepair are the top explored LCE subelds whereas logistics and Procurement are the least explored subareas.Research in AI-LCE is concentrated in a few dominating countries and especially countries with a strongresearch funding and focus on Industry 4.0; Germany is standing out with numbers of publications. This paper discusses the different types of rules inducing a gender-balanced composition of international legal bodies, the recent evolution in the composition of those bodies from a gender perspective, and the relationship between the aforementioned rules and the state of the art since the 2021 Human Rights Council Report on current levels of representation of women in human rights organs and mechanisms. The study differentiates between the hard and soft rules on gender equality and the rules governing the nomination and election procedures for those legal bodies. The final aim is to draw conclusions on the nature and effectiveness of the different set of rules, proposing a twofold strategy to advance the gender balance question. Undoubtedly, there is no way back, according to the already long-lasting social and legal debate in the academy and the growing domestic and international practice. Production design and Maintenance andRepair are the top explored LCE subelds whereas logistics and Procurement are the least explored subareas.Research in AI-LCE is concentrated in a few dominating countries and especially countries with a strongresearch funding and focus on Industry 4.0; Germany is standing out with numbers of publications. The competence-based model focuses on acquiring skills and abilities, yet each student’s individual circumstances condition the way in which they learn, develop, and implement them. Accordingly, there is a growing interest in defining learning activities that consider the diverse range of intelligences, abilities, and prevailing mindsets in each individual in order to promote inclusive education and sustainable development. This article seeks to design a methodology for the teaching–learning resources associated with the nature of the prevailing intelligence in the competence-based model. Thus, the “competence-intelligence-resource triangle” was proposed for promoting inclusive education in the degree in Management Engineering at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). A total of 99 teaching–learning resources, 11 competences, and 9 types of intelligence were combined. As far as the multiple intelligence approach is concerned, the 50 students surveyed prioritized logical–mathematical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, linguistic, and spatial intelligences. As a conclusion, the use of teaching–learning resources designed for promoting different types of intelligence in the competence-based model constitutes an adaptive strategy for the students to successfully acquire competences.

This article investigates the role of accounting disciplines in assessing and fostering corporate social performance (CSP) of business organisations to meet the UN Agenda 2030. Drawing from legitimacy theory, this qualitative study analyses if and how non-financial reporting positively affects and fosters CSP practices and outcomes within the cruise industry. Specifically, using a case study methodology, a major cruise company has been analysed outlining its sustainable behaviour, through the manual content analysis of sustainability reports (2016–2017–2018), in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) introduced by the UN Agenda 2030. The findings outline that the cruise company presents a clear sustainability and community orientation and adopts several initiatives, mostly focused on environmental and social issues, addressed to meet the 17 SDGs, where reputation and positive image have been recognised as the major antecedents in the perspective of CSP. This study contributes to the literature giving a broader and different reading of sustainability reporting as a “booster” of the CSP in meeting the SDGs and a further interesting application of the legitimacy theory, and offers managerial implications to systematise the content of non-financial reporting by improving the quality of disclosure to achieve the SDGs, with focus on CSP processes, outcomes and ways.

Transient poverty (TP) is a phenomenon that, by its characterisation, references a condition that may not necessarily be permanent. Its occurrence may result from an external shock, such as a severe weather-related event or geographic, national, or global impact on the economy, such as a hurricane, financial crisis, or as most recently, a pandemic. The defining aspects of TP and the needs of those pushed into TP offer an opportunity to address one aspect of poverty, which is of significance given both the disproportionate vulnerability of the poor to external shocks as well as the prohibitive effect of poverty on establishing resilience. Unfortunately, TP is not often assessed and is routinely combined and categorised as ‘poverty’, eliminating an opportunity to address unique aspects of TP and establish policies that may be beneficial to the sub-group. This paper provides a bibliometric evaluation of TP specific to the sustainable development literature, highlighting the research gap and providing a rationale for active research on the social phenomenon regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in general and specifically SDG 1: No poverty. There are three key findings relevant to sustainability. Firstly, there seems to be a disconnection between TP and the sustainable development theory, particularly in a multidisciplinary discussion. Secondly, human action in degrading ecosystems strongly influences TP and exacerbates overall poverty levels. Finally, efforts to tackle transient poverty need to consider issues such as gender, education, health, and political aspects. Based on the findings, items for future research are also presented.

En el año 2015 la ONU propuso 17 objetivos comunes que debían lograrse en menos de dos décadas. Estos son conocidos como los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) y se enmarcan en una estrategia global denominada Agenda 2030. La educación ha sido propuesta como un eje fundamental para el logro de los ODS, siendo todos los componentes del sistema educativo esenciales para contribuir a un mundo más sostenible a nivel económico, social y medioambiental. Concretamente, la Educación Física ha sido descrita como una materia que posee unas características importantes para contribuir al logro de los ODS; sin embargo, en la literatura previa aún no existen investigaciones que evalúen las intervenciones de los docentes de Educación Física (DEF) en sostenibilidad. Para indagar en este ámbito, el presente estudio tiene como objetivo explorar el conocimiento de los DEF sobre los ODS. Para ello, se realiza un estudio cualitativo-exploratorio basado en la entrevista. Doce DEF de Secundaria (seis mujeres) respondieron a ocho preguntas agrupadas en tres dimensiones. La noción del concepto de sostenibilidad, el análisis de las conductas sostenibles realizadas y las consideraciones sobre el valor que tiene la Educación Física para poder contribuir a la adquisición de los ODS. Los resultados mostraron que los DEF conciben la sostenibilidad sobre todo como un problema medioambiental, dejando de lado el aspecto económico y social. Además, mayoritariamente, confirman no realizar ningún tipo de conducta sostenible en clase, limitándose a impartir los contenidos de la materia. Finalmente, señalan al ODS 3 “Salud y bienestar” como el más relacionado con la Educación Física, seguido, de lejos, por los ODS 5 “Igualdad de género” ODS 16 “Paz y justicia social”. Estos resultados permitirán establecer futuras intervenciones e investigaciones destinadas a la mejora de actuaciones docente en el marco de la Educación Física., UN set 17 common goals to be achieved in less than two decades in 2015. These are known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are part of a global strategy called Agenda 2030. Education has been proposed as a fundamental element for the achievement of the SDGs, with all components of the education system being essential to contribute to a more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable world. Specifically, Physical Education (PE) has been described as a subject that has important characteristics in achieving the SDGs; however, in previous literature there is still no research aimed at assessing PE teachers' interventions in sustainability. In order to investigate this area, this study aims to explore PEFs' knowledge of the SDGs. For this purpose, a qualitative-exploratory interview-based study was conducted. Twelve secondary school DEFs (six female) responded to eight questions grouped into three dimensions. The concept of sustainability, the analysis of sustainable behaviors and considerations on the value of Physical Education in contributing to the achievement of the SDGs. The results showed that the DEFs conceive sustainability mainly as an environmental issue, leaving aside the economic and social aspects. Furthermore, most of them confirm that they do not engage in any kind of sustainable behavior in class, limiting themselves to teaching the contents of the subject. Finally, they point out SDG 3 "Health and well-being" as the one most related to Physical Education, mentioning SDG 5 "Gender equality" and SDG 16 "Peace and social justice" secondarily. These results will help to establish future interventions and research aimed at improving teaching actions within the framework of Physical Education.

Despite the drive for increased environmental protection and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), coal, oil, and natural gas use continues to dominate Japan’s energy mix. In light of this issue, this research assessed the position of natural gas, oil, and coal energy use in Japan’s environmental mitigation efforts from the perspective of sustainable development with respect to economic growth between 1965 and 2019. In this regard, the study employs Bayer and Hanck cointegration, fully modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS), and dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS) to investigate these interconnections. The empirical findings from this study revealed that the utilization of natural gas, oil, and coal energy reduces the sustainability of the environment with oil consumption having the most significant impact. Furthermore, the study validates the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis in Japan. The outcomes of the Gradual shift causality showed that CO2 emissions can predict economic growth, while oil, coal, and energy consumption can predict CO2 emissions in Japan. Given Japan’s ongoing energy crisis, this innovative analysis provides valuable policy insights to stakeholders and authorities in the nation’s energy sector. © 2021 by the authors. This is a statistical analysis where various factors related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been used to explain life expectancy. The dataset contained information on how countries perform in different aspects over several years. The factors used have been considered to be well-linked to one or more of the SDGs by studying how the United Nations (UN) and Globalis have categorized them under different goals. After the dataset was investigated and measures were implemented, a multiple regression analysis was performed. The analysis showed which factors had statistically significant effects on life expectancy for the observations that were used. From this information, the final linear regression model could be obtained. Then it was discussed whether important information was omitted from the final model and another regression analysis was performed. This time, the dataset was divided into smaller subgroups where one group contained all observations where life expectancy was 75 years or more and the other data set contained all observations where life expectancy was 56 years or less. From these datasets, it was analyzed whether significant factors change depending on the associated life expectancy, which was proved to be the case. The conclusion that was drawn was therefore that the final model is a weighting of observations with different life expectancy, but the differences between observations with different life expectancies are omitted., Det här är en statistisk analys där olika faktorer med koppling till de Globala Hållbarhetsmålen har används för att förklara den förväntade livslängden. Datasetet som användes innehöll information om hur länder presterar i olika avseenden under flera olika år. De faktorer som används har ansetts ha god koppling till något av de globala hållbarhetsmålen genom att studera hur FN samt Globalis har kategoriserat olika index under de respektive målen. Efter att datasetet undersökts och eventuella åtgärder genomförts så gjordes en multipel linjär regressionsanalys. Analysen visade vilka faktorer som hade signifikant påverkan på förväntad livslängd hos de observationer som använts. Ur denna information kunde den slutgiltiga linjära regressionsmodellen tas fram. Sedan skedde ett resonemang kring validiteten av denna modell och huruvida viktigt information utelämnas i den slutgiltiga modellen. Då genomfördes ytterligare en regressionsanalys, men denna gång hade datasetet delats upp i mindre grupper. En grupp innehöll alla observationer då den förväntade livslängden var 75 år eller mer, och den andra gruppen innehöll alla observationer då förväntad livslängd var 56 år eller mindre. Med hjälp av dessa dataset utreddes huruvida olika faktorer är olika viktiga vid olika förväntade livslängder, vilket var fallet. Slutsatsen som drogs var därför att den slutgiltiga modellen som togs fram var en sammanvägning av alla observationer med olika förväntade livslängder, men där skillnaderna mellan länder utelämnades.

The aim of this research was to review Sustainable Development Goal on quality education in line with e-learning resources and pedagogy that can be found in the university system. The review of the learning resources in the higher institution is based on the goal of the United Nations to build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, nonviolent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all. Knowing that learning resources are vital part of quality education, the researcher identified different library e-learning resources, instructional learning tools and how they are employed in several cases. The study also looked at the advent of smart classroom which has turned classroom learning environment into the high-tech content, which creates an interactive classroom teaching efficiency for teachers and students in learning situations, promote the students' active learning and cooperative learning, and then improve the efficiency of pedagogy and outcomes of the students.

We discuss municipal physical-spatial planning instruments as vehicles for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in cities in the Global South. We do this by focusing on Medellin, Colombia, a city that has endured significant challenges-mainly related to poverty and violence-, but has attracted significant international attention due to its approach to territorial planning and its innovative application of new and existing legal tools to transform realities and repay historical debts with the urban poor. We performed a review of the most important documents related to SDG implementation in the country and the city, as well as Municipal Development Plans and legal planning instruments issued from 1 January 2016. The article maps active planning instruments and suggests the analysis, already from the diagnosis and formulation phases, of the linkage among strategies and projects, and SDGs, and the inclusion of SDG considerations in citizen participation instruments such as so-called Local Development Plans. © 2020 by the authors.
